people go "why do u complain about wotc and their affiliated products and franchises just play something else" all the time as if wotc doesn't have a massive monopoly on ttrpgs. i LOVE independent and even one-page ttrpgs, but it's wildly difficult to find people who are willing to play those rather than dnd. i love pathfinder. even that stemmed from dnd 3.5e and wotc's temportarily-outsourced-to-paizo dnd magazines. dnd 5e's release massively boosted the game's declining popularity, alongside hasbro's collaborations with massive media companies to give the game a more positive sociocultural light.

the d20 system itself derives from dnd. third party ttrpgs have widely adapted the system because of dnd's popularity and the knowledge that through that system will they can attract players, even if the use of the d20 system functionally makes the game in question abysmal, especially compared to what it could be with a different system.

wotc's mtg and betrayal at house on the hill are fun for their relatively original, well-structured, and engaging interpersonal gameplay. (at least, from what i've played of house on the hill and what i've seen of mtg. wotc tries to make it beginner-friendly, but the community appears a bit too tight-knit amongst themselves and dismissive of prospective players for me to get into it personally.) dnd, despite being kind of dogshit in comparison to both other wotc games and its ttrpg alternatives, still makes its way into other wotc products (for obvious reasons) and other ttrpgs because of its cultural influence in nerd spheres due to the massive amounts of money hasbro has pumped into maintaining dnd's name (despite it being an entirely different game from the dnd our parents knew) for branding reasons and creating a social perception of the game that will increase player recruitment (which, as it works in the game industry, tenfold for multiplayer games, increases retention).

it pisses me off that there's no way for me, or anyone at all, to engage with ttrpgs and the wider ttrpg community without having some link to wotc chilling in the corner at all times. obviously, if i'm playing a wotc game, that's wotc! duh! and i'm fine with that because it was my choice to play betrayal at house on the hill with my friends. however, due to the corporate snowball of dnd that's been whacked back and forth for decades, i can't choose whether or not wotc is present in the games i play, or hell, the games i run. the wotc dnd monopoly isn't just financial. hell, i would argue that it's primarily cultural.

ohhhh man the adoption theory… i’ve been trying to get to the bottom of this for so long, this answer might get pretty long sorry about that. i’m really glad you asked so i have an excuse to talk abt it :D

i’m thinking rock was first designed as a guest at the inn, but that late in development the connection between him and tei+lou was added

looking at the concept art for tei, his bio says 「元旅人だったせいか、ナミやロックのような人物を好んで泊めるようだ。」 which roughly translates “perhaps due to being a former traveler himself, he seems to enjoy hosting people like nami and rock” uh... hosting, huh? travelers, huh?

tbh rock’s original concept art/description feels to me like. he was meant to be the annoying trust fund kid prodigal son who is blowing his rich parents money to travel on the longest vacation in the world. and everyone responsible for creating this character hates him so so so much

so i think some of the Themes about rock were unintentional at least for the first game, but were rolled with for anwl with the total revision of his character + addition of his heart events and rival heart events. especially with his 2nd rival event with lumina, ESPECIALLY with the ingame rumor lumina isn’t actually related to romana

the photo was there from awl though… so maybe the idea was meant to be hinted at in awl

stuff that makes little sense to me if rock was their son—going from well-tread to lesser tread:

shares no physical features with them aside from having darker skin tone than most of the cast

rock even brings up the fact that he looks nothing like his parents just to get defensive and say it’s none of anyone’s business

does not speak like either of his parents. more apparent in jp. he sounds. “trendy” (he tries)

tei and lou didn’t design the inn with a room for a child… his ass is NOT supposed to be in that room!! it’s for van!!

rock remembers moving to the valley for the first time but there’s not even a hint he was part of their travels, even though tei/lou were traveling until reaching the valley (you’d think rock’d jump at the chance to brag about being well traveled)

the inn is older than the farm your dad and takakura started but rock says he never met your dad (lou and even lumina did meet him)

we can now actually look at all the photos in the inn of tei and lou and their travels, none of them have rock in them.

which brings me to the infamous photo…

other than the fact it isn’t rock, we don’t know anything for sure. both the original and remake have scenes where tei talks about this picture (strange hoe / blessed milker) but he never acknowledges the kid in the photo at all, just talks about the country they visited. it’s bizarre.

the jp flavor text when examining the picture says 「夫婦ふたりの間にうつっている小さな男の子はロックではないようです…」— “It seems that the little boy between the couple is not Rock…”.

there’s a ton of room for guessing, but personally i hc they lost a child. based on what i can see of the picture, the kid has the same hair color and skin color as tei and lou, and a similar build to them…

taking into account that rock dyes his hair, rock’s / his kids’ natural hair color is actually the same exact hex color code as cecilia’s…

if the fact that he dyes his hair is meant to say he’s their son, his natural hair would be black, yeah? but instead it’s cecilia brown

rock’s son also is described oddly specifically as “looking exactly like a small Rock”. you know who doesn’t look like rock’s kid? the kid in the photo :(

funny enough even in anwl it never occurred to me that rock was a natural blond. his eyebrows are dark and … damn those roots. i guess i just assumed he was dyeing his friggin toddlers hair

i also hc they’ve known rock longer than he’s been part of their household, and that he’s either the child of a friend they traveled with in the past or a kid they met in the “country far to the south” they traveled to a long time ago. he reminded them of their lost kid in some way

Ok so I have a theory about Ib that i briefly talked about in my twitter last year but I want to post it here with more information.

The theory is about the creation of the Fabricated World.

There's a bunch of random texts and books around the game that explains more about this place, but one book in the original game, (that for some reason didn't make to the Remake) called my attention.

There's a diary in a bookshelf in a trap with three mannequins, it says:

Based on the fact that this entry was written about an artist reflecting about his artworks and people's belief in the paranormal, I believe that this diary belongs to Guertena right before his death.

Guertena was in some kind of terminal state, and for a way to become "immortal", he decided to put his spirit in his creations.

And for that, he made the Fabricated World.

An enormous painting containing the majority of his paintings and sculptures. And, after he died, the Fabricated World became alive.

It was said ingame that Mary was Guertena final work, but I believe that Mary was his last published work. Because everyone that got in contact with the painting got sucked into the Fabricated World.

There are reports of other people that got into the Fabricated World and were trying to survive it.

Also, it's not the only evidence, even Mary implied that other people got into the Fabricated World, and most importantly, they never got out.

Which brings me to another theory of mine: The people who get stuck in the Fabricated World and die there, becomes one of Guertena's Work.

One spirit isn't enough to maintain the place living, so the Fabricated World kidnaps and takes the soul from the people from the outside.

They get there, their flowers (which represents the soul) gets torn off, and they lose their individuality for the gallery.

And this is why the works are so obssessed in taking the flower from the protagonist. It could be that, but also because they're in some kind of "zombie state" and desperately tries to claim the other soul/flower as their own.

The statues "Death of the Individual" could be a foreshadowing of this phenomenon, the loss of one's identity to become a piece of art.

It also happens with Garry in the ending "Forgotten Painting", where he dies in the Fabricated World and became part of the works of Guertena.

And that's it! It's probably obvious but I never see people really explicitly talk about it so yeah!! thanks for reading!!

I seriously hope one day we get a definitive video or at least full recounting of the sin that Dan Feng and Yingxing committed, or just y’know a full voew of the situation. Because the ingame text is so confusing and I feel like it is purposefully confusing at times y’know? Like not necessarily what is written is confusing, it’s all about how it’s written primarily like the format making events seem as if they happen together or making it seem like something else is happening.

And it makes sense, I don’t think it’s a case of punishing the players trying to get invested in the lore by confusing them. Its just like a lot of the info we get from the character stories meant to be Dan Feng’s memories are still just dreams of memories from Dan Heng and that man is so fucking confused about so much fucking shit so it makes sense why its extremely confusing. And also Jingliu’s character stories still have shit in them that confuse me, but

Anyways, I do hope we get some answers. I’m not really expecting them with Jingliu’s release especially because that just feels WAY too early. I already explained in that DH DF and unreliable narrators post that its a bad idea to uncover everything with the luofu so early since the promise of our return/coming back into contact at least is confirmed and just waiting for the proper time to fulfill it plus the other ships but yeah like

I would LOVE a whole animated sequence or maybe even animated cutscene in game showing memories recounting that, but even just an outright explanation would save my brain from overthinkin and second guessing myself so much

No, but the fact that belobogians never seen a chicken raises so many questions.

What farm animals they have and how do they keep them alive? Like the place has gotta be close to city, because it's simply easier to warm up the area this way. And just how big this farm area needs to be to provide for an entire city?

If they don't have chicken, what do they use instead of chicken eggs? If they don't use any substitutes, then they don't have cakes or other food like that. Or do they only have eggless recipes that don't require baking like some type of cheesecakes? I mean their planet is already like a giant freezer, they can use it.

Or they probably use other eggs, like idk duck eggs.

Does that create an even bigger divide between the overworld and the underground? Like most of the farm animals require plant-based food, so it would be very hard to keep them in the underground, especially after Cocolia ordered to close the border. But does this mean that some kids from the underworld never had milk?

this has sent me down a rabbit hole where i'd research belobogian cuisine ingame

(warning: this is a bit of a long post)

i'm looking at the flavor text lore for the dishes that you can get from belobog and i have this stone-grilled olm. i looked up what an olm is and yeah it's basically an amphibian

besides olms, they have crabs which interestingly enough also has interesting lore implications because apparently these crabs could "wreak havoc" in belobog before the eternal freeze and then became extinct so has hook just been eating an extinct species this whole time??

the answer to my question was in "Miners Weekly" where it talks about how the rock crab nests were destroyed so it seems like the extinction only happened recently

then we also have crystal lizards that are coldblooded and live in mines and apparently isn't even meant to be edible despite the fact that this is also something being sold by the food stall. i also wonder if that dialogue at the bottom saying how the crystal lizard satay tastes like chicken is from the trailblazer or march because it can't really be a belobogian

i checked the bookshelf if i had any books that could answer my question and lo and behold, here's a recipe for how the crystal lizard satay and some lore attached to it. apparently the dish was created out of necessity due to a mining accident and lack of rations. i guess desperation can be the best source of creativity.

note: according to the same book, they've eaten candied mushrooms.

so when it comes to farm animals, i found that they do have pork, rye bread soda(?), and yogurt

this implies that they have pigs and cows but we can't be sure if they're different from cows and pigs in our world. the sausage is considered a national delicacy though so perhaps pigs are common enough that they can be produced a lot since a hundred years ago.

i found the recipe for rye bread soda in my bookshelf as well!

then i found out they do have fish and jam which makes me wonder where they fish.

According to Lila, an NPC that's a zoologist, Belobog has dogs, cats, wolves and birds but in ancient times, Belobog had domesticated bears and direwolves in the wild. The bears and direwolves are no longer around though.

anyway yeah this is the info I've found on Belobogian food. I hope you guys enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed researching this.

Spore on the steam deck

so, i recently got a steam deck, and i also have the spore collection on gog, so obviously i was like "hell yeah lets get spore on the go"

i thought i could just install it and run, i could not. if you try, you'll get errors 2000 and 1004.

to fix this? well, i combined a couple guides i found here in the case that anyone here has the same problem (this should work for steam and gog, and *maybe* origin, the only thing that should be different is the file paths, and it should be the same for general linux desktops with different file paths). also some steps are only necessary for certain parts of it. i will put [SPORE] for base game, [GA] for galactic adventures, and [CC] for the parts pack

step 1) install the game [SPORE] [GA] [CC]

very simple step. on steam you just download it while in game mode (also download galactic adventures and the creepy and cute parts pack if you have those), and on gog you can use heroic launcher (which is what i used) or lutris (which i have never used, the only difference *should* be the file path which it might tell you).

step 2) edit the wine prefix registry [SPORE] [GA] [CC] and copy content [GA] [CC]

this is where the error 2000/1004 gets solved.

open the file "/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/17390/pfx/system.reg" if you are using steam, or "/home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/SPORE Collection/pfx/system.reg" if you are using gog. then, paste the following strings between any other pre-existing strings in that file:

[GA] [CC] in the same directory folder as the Data folder, you will also see the DataEP1 [GA] and bp1content [CC]. copy EVERYTHING from inside these folders into the Data folder. after doing this, you can now access the expansion packs ingame, and id also recommend changing the aspect ratio (requires restart of the game to take effect)

step 2.5) get 60fps patch [SPORE] [GA] [CC]

this is relatively simple, go back into the Data folder, then open the Config folder. in this folder you should see three text files, ConfigManager, Properties, and VideoCards.

first, open ConfigManager, scroll all the way to the bottom, and ad the very bottom make a new line and type "intProp frameLimitMS 17" (without the quotation marks)

second, open Properties, scroll all the way down, at the very bottom make a new line and type "property frameLimitMS 44 int" (again without quotation marks)

after editing both of those files, save them and then you should be running the game at around 60fps

step 3) controller config and game mode access

if you are using a steam deck, you will probably want to access this in game mode. steam version has this there by default so that doesnt matter, but other versions need to be added. heroic launcher has an option to just add a game to steam in heroic, and then booting into game mode shows it there. not entirely sure about lutris but its probably the same.

once its there in the game mode (or for regular linux desktops, just edit the controller config from the steam desktop app for spore specifically) just open the controller configurator, set up the controls you like (you NEED bindings for left and right mouse buttons, scroll wheel, middle mouse click, and mouse movement, and i recommend also adding 1, 2, 3, 4, F1, F2, F3, F4, space, esc, p, shift, ctrl, backspace, alt, wasd, and enter), i personally used the joystick for wasd, dpad for f1-4, left trackpad as a dpad for 1-4, a and b for jump and enter, start and select as esc and p, right trackpad and right stick as mouse, triggers as click and everything else on the paddles.

after all that, you can now play spore on the steam deck (or any linux pc i think)

(please note that mods might not work unless they dont require galactic adventures because of how the galactic adventures data was moved to the base game bit, bot parts pack does work, but i couldnt get the patch that gives them the sing ability to work)

why did i go through all that to play spore in a car? who knows. why am i posting it here rather than reddit? because i dont use reddit anymore. is anyone reading this likely to care? probably not but theres always a chance.

Like literally, get this? He's basically saving you all these times so if you ever meet him i don't doubt he'll be the creepiest shit ever, you ask him who he is and he says that he's your TRUE savior, he basically wants you to spend as much time in the game as possible making random quests pop up so ya don't leave, he is considered what is left after death due to his faceless state by the other npcs, so overtime you get more and more scared as the game gets sorta distorted in a way that it almost feels real, is your mind is tricking you? Or is it the game? You ask yourself many times, after weird shit happens it always comes back to normal in an odd way; as if nothing ever happened. IF you ask one of the npcs about Ayato they'll just say "DEUS ESTÁ VINDO" repeatedly which in my language means [god is coming] i thought it would be fun to make them speak PT-BR since it's sorta like latin? Anyhoo, the npcs start calling you chosen one and a random text pops up of like "you feel a presence behind you, it is watching you.. since forever." As it suddenly turns into 1st person pov ingame, you turn your screen around and what do you see? Nothing. Surely the games messing with you.

Sorry i went on a full ramble about this, i really liked the random idea that came up in my head of phycological horror for yan! faceless Ayato, if that's not too much. Your thoughts?

Imagine before a day before Inazuma was released you tried ice-bridging your way there for fun. Yet, for some reason, Paimon doesn't appear to hopelessly drown you in the middle of nowhere. There's a point you got lazy and tried to teleport back to the place near Dawn Winery for some crystalflies–

but it won't work.

You wait until the ice melts. It didn't. Your ping is fine. You tried walking out of the ice– and when you walked, the ocean strangely sounded just like the grass in places like Mondstadt and Liyue. Excited that this must be a cool glitch and you'd see Inazuma first before anyone else, you kept walking. The atmosphere still looked stormy and foreboding.

That was, until you saw an "unfamiliar" NPC model near Narukami Island.

"NO SE ACERQUE."

He seemed like an unfinished NPC, with face void except for two piercing eyes. The model was shaking slightly, and it mimicked the pointing animation.

But you didn't got to comprehend what you just saw as you're forcefully teleported back to Dawn Winery.

heya! just a heads up!, colette is an adult(confirmed by her character designer) and edgar is a teen(by his bio text ingame) so yeah!! no hate just a warning!!

I wasn't actually sure if that was confirmed if Colette was an adult or not. I generally HC Colette as being 19-20 and Edgar being 18. Still within the age range of each other.

But just to clarify for the fanfic idea I proposed, both of them are teenagers. I won't put specific ages down (in case someone does want to pick up that idea and fill it in with their own headcanons) but in that scenario, its perfectly legal for them to be together

Sorry for this little rant. I'm reading your review of Lightfall, and this line here: "people were essentially 'tricked' by the visual spectacle of Seraph's final cutscene into thinking the writing for that season was a lot better than it actually was" is right on the money. I'm dealing with something similar in the Star Wars fandom. The new writing for this new season of the Mandalorian is terrible, but everyone is so distracted by the cameos and action scenes that they don't even realize how nothing makes sense, and because of this, I noticed how scarily similar some of the people who defend Destiny's recent writing sound compared to these Star Wars fans. It's all of the outside-of-the-text justifications and assumptions to patch over vital missing context. And also, people just seem to accept the things they are told by the writers at face value with no justification and then dismiss any criticism because they believe everything was laid out as intended, and if that was the writers' wish, then who are we to question them? It has been nothing short of frustrating.

(that reminds me that i should probably link it in my pinned post....) and yeah, i'm not saying that everyone who liked seraph are mindless idiot sheep, but that the ending cutscene seemed almost... like, crafted in a lab with music and visuals to try to make people cry. so i don't blame people for being emotionally impacted by it, and because it was the last thing people experienced in the season, that's what people are going to remember when they think back on the season, not the stuff that came before. so of course some people are going to be like "oh, seraph was great!" thinking just about that cutscene. and for many people who dont actually care a lot about lore or plot, it probably did make the season!

i also agree with your take that a lot of people just accept everything the writers do and are unable to handle any criticism because "that's what the writers said." d2 reddit and twitter are toxic cesspools full of miserable people but ironically i think this particular problem is worse on tumblr because people want so badly not to be redditbros that they end up swinging too hard in the opposite direction and feeling like they cant criticize anything. it's annoying to try to criticize a certain writing choice and have people bring up all this ingame justification for the choice. im not cinemasins, im not complaining that it "doesnt make sense" or "isnt realistic" but rather critiquing the choice to make that decision in the first place. i 100% think there IS a way to respectfully and productively criticize the game's writing and it is frustrating that so much of the time it swings between 2 extremes

She had heard a wide variety of responses from the girls who overheard her. Some agreed; some thought she was crazy. Of course, she had brushed the latter off, claiming they needed to get their eyes checked.

She shared only one class with the greaser and, by chance, she had been assigned to sit behind him. That is, whenever he would actually care to show up. Normally he would waltz in halfway through class, Mr. Wiggins glancing up only to see who was entering. He normally threw an “oh, there you are, Johnny!” before going back to whatever he was teaching. Normally, Johnny would toss his bag to the ground before sitting, and he had gotten into the habit of looking down at Mandy before taking his seat. It always made her internally squeal, the thought of the rough and tough greaser king actually admiring her making her stomach do flips. She may or may not have written his initials down in her notebook, surrounded with hearts.

Today was different. It was the first day of fall and, much to her dismay, her sweater had been torn after getting it caught on something during chemistry. Had it been a small tear, she wouldn’t have thought much of it, but the seam that connected the sleeve to the torso had ripped a good amount and was letting in all of the cold air. How fun.

The second her practice was over, Mandy was the first one out of class. She dropped by her dorm to snatch up her purse with a huff. She hurried as much as she could, the wind making her body shiver. She would’ve asked to borrow Ted’s jacket but, surprise surprise, he wasn’t answering his phone. Whatever. She wouldn’t be out long anyway. She just needed to get something until she could save up enough of her allowance money to get something cuter, or until she could mend it herself.

Her phone went off the second she crossed the bridge; a text message from Christy asking about tomorrow’s practice. She clicks her tongue on the roof of her mouth. Hadn’t she already been over this with her? It would be the same routine they had practiced today, and if she wasn’t there, they could just practice without her.

She’s halfway through her text when her arm collides with someone. “Oh, my god!” She’s ready to slap whoever bumped into her, but all of her rage dissipated when she came face to face with Johnny Vincent.

“Careful, now.” His voice is low, calm. He’s holding a bouquet of flowers in his hand, a lit cigarette hanging out of his mouth. His brows knit together as he looks down at her. “You uh… you know your sweater’s ripped, right?”

Her face burns as he stares at the exposed piece of skin peeking through the tear. “Yeah. Got caught on something during chemistry. It totally blows!” Her hands fly up in frustration. “Like, I can’t have a ripped sweater, and all of my other ones are totally dirty!”

“Ah, I’ll be fine. ‘Sides, you need it more.” She finally takes it from him, draping it over her shoulders. It’s nice and warm, a few sizes too big but she loves it. However… “This totally reeks of smoke.”

Johnny laughs. “I bet you’ve never smoked, huh?”

“Yeah, of course!” she shoots back. “All the cool kids have.” He takes his cigarette, holding it out for her. Her face burns in embarrassment. “I-I have to stay in shape for cheer.”

He nods before taking a drag. “Where’s that boy of yours?”

“You mean Ted?” Again, he gives her a nod. “I dunno. I tried calling him so I could borrow his jacket, but he wouldn’t pick up his phone!”

“And you’re still with that?” he chuckles. Mandy lets out a huff.

“You’re still with Lola!” she retorts. His entire demeanor changes, the smirk vanishing.

“Yeah, I dunno ‘bout that anymore.” He gestures to the bouquet in his hand. “Got these for her, but… ya know.”

“Well… she totally doesn’t deserve you anyway!”

“Yeah, I guess.” The silence between them is brief. “Hey, lemme walk you back to the dorm. It’s getting late.”

“I-” Her heart races. The sun was going down pretty fast, and how could she say no to spending more time with Johnny? Especially now hearing that he probably wasn’t with Lola anymore.

“You can wait until tomorrow,” he tells her. “Supposed to be warmer too.”

“Yeah, okay.” She holds the ends of his jacket closed, the metal zipper having finally warmed up from her hands. “So, what happened between you and Lola?”

He groans. “Ah, you know how she can be.”

“Totally.” She rolls her eyes. “I bet she’s been with half of the school just to make you jealous.”

“Ya know… I wouldn’t be surprised.” He sounds defeated as he removes his cigarette from his mouth, tapping the ends to get rid of the excess ashes. “What about you and Ted? I heard he gets around himself.”

“Ugh, I hate it!” It wasn’t a secret Ted had been caught with Christy more than once. But… “Like, it doesn’t hurt, but it’s just embarrassing you know?”

“Doesn’t hurt?” he parrots. “Him bein’ with someone else don’t hurt you?”

“Well, not really. Honestly, I’ve been like… thinking of leaving him.”

“Why haven’t you then?”

“You know how it is.” She opens his jacket, showing off the Bullworth emblem on the chest. “Jocks are meant to be with jocks and all that. But I’m getting tired of it!”

“Ain’t no one said you gotta date within your clique.”

“Then why are you with Lola?”

There’s a pause. Before she can tell him to forget the question, he finally answers: “She saw me when I was at my lowest. And she didn’t turn her back on me.”

The response stuns her. All this time she had just assumed that he was captivated by Lola’s beauty or even her interest in shop. Maybe the fact that they were in the same clique. But to hear that was quite the surprise.

“I… totally never would’ve guessed.” The smile Johnny gives her isn’t a happy one; it’s sad, defeated.

“Yeah. I don’t talk about it much.”

The rest of the walk back to the dorm is silent, and Mandy’s thankful that it’s not long. He walks up the steps with her, both standing outside the dorm.

“Thanks for walking me back.” She smiles up at him. “And for giving me your jacket. That was totally cool of you.”

“Yeah, no problem.” She starts to take it off, but Johnny puts his hand up. “Keep it in case I’m wrong about tomorrow. And…” He looks at the bouquet he’s still holding before handing it out to her. “Here. I think I should give this to someone who will actually appreciate it.”

“Are you serious?” Her face burns a bright red as she slowly takes the flowers from him. “Thank you! I guess everyone was wrong about you.”

“I’m not that bad, am I?” he laughs. She shakes her head.

“Not at all.” She opens the door but pauses before entering. “You know… you should like try out for the team.”

He laughs again. “Only if you start taking shop.”

“Hey, I totally could if I wanted to!” They smile at each other and Johnny takes a step down.

“You have a good night, Mandy.”

“You too. Goodnight!”

"They got too much screen time": honestly, Kaliyo in the agent story. I thought she was an interesting character concept and decently funny, but man I could just. Not picture an agent putting up with her shit to the degree the story asked me to/tooling around with her in places where she'd overhear sensitive intel. (Lokin, on the other hand, would've been a totally plausible companion to run around Dromund Kaas/visit the Citadel with.) It was a notable 'I'm having a tough time suspending my disbelief' thing in a storyline that otherwise felt pretty tight when you looked at characters' actions in context.

(I also feel that a certain villain got too much screen time in the expansions--not gonna namedrop since you're not there yet, Niri, but HOW MANY TIMES DO WE NEED TO TEACH YOU THIS LESSON, VILLAIN, omg do new things Bioware)

"They got done dirty by fans": IN THIS ESSAY I WILL--

Malavai Quinn got done dirty by shoddy writing and I'm absolutely sure that's why there's an almost rabid hatred of him in certain corners of the fandom, to the point that I've seen discourse like 'women only like him cause he's hot' (which like, ah yes, the time-worn dismissal of any character or media written with an eye towards the female gaze. It is 2022; could you not.)

I've read and recognize what the writers were trying to do with the Quinncident, and in a game where your character's relationship with him could vary considerably I think allowing for some flexibility in his intentions was valid, but the fact that there's no follow-up conversations about it, especially in the context of the romance, made it feel like some weird, isolated, out-of-character ass-pull by the writers to create drama. Like, oh my god, let my character have a argument with him afterward. Let the way he explains himself vary based on whether or not I did the romance and my character's past actions (e.g. an answer like 'I felt trapped and guilty and just wanted you to kill me' would work better with a lawful/imperial loyalist warrior; an answer like 'my attempt was genuine and I saw you as a problem' would work better with a bloodthirsty/edgelordy warrior.) In the expansions there's some notable bits where your companions' actions can vary depending on what you have and haven't done, and actions having consequences in a game is cool!

I of course dealt with this by writing fic but yeah, I really think his character would've been received better if the warrior had gotten to work through that crisis with him in the actual text of the game.

His name is Hades, yes the god of underworld, but he also have other nicknames. You are freely to call him anything as long as it doesn't offend somebody, he wouldn't mind about that. What’s this about a New Ionian champion?

okay so i got this info by a spanish youtuber so maybe this is going to end up on a telephone game. But i'll pass the info as literally as i can:

this video recopiles shortly all we know about a new champion riot defined as 'ink mage' specifically focused on midlane.

this champion was originally going to be released 5-6 years ago, but they didnt have enough resources to make the abilities work, etc, so it was originally cancelled and rescued this year.

Riot has already discussed about this champion 2 years ago, when a fan said that they should chat more about the concept of the ink mage. To wich Riot Meddler responded that they would, but that they didnt release him because a lot of the ideas were more practical on paper, but quite difficult to recreate ingame (wich leads to the lack of resources, and why he was initially cancelled 5-6 years ago).

Riot's idea was that you could draw the abilities. The video even in spanish includes a little video (i assume is official? but i dont see the typical riot pbe checkmark, so it could probably be fanmade, i dont know personally). Like for example, draw a straight line for a basic damage ability, a square for a stun/root, or a circle for a knockup like Taliyah's one.

They are unsure if they should discard this idea since it could be difficult to apply ingame or if it would be frustrating to play aganist. It could be a very tricky and difficult champion to play as in a teamfight.

Riot has already talked about this champion oficially, but i cannot find the source in english, just the screenshot in spanish used in this video. To be completely honest, its a very confusing text. As if the champion was real and he was the one doing his own splashart...? Its a very weird text. There's nothing really of interest rather than saying that this supposed artist champion is a complex, complicated and somber, with surely a tragic past (gee, how original...) They just explain by this that they dont have an illustration yet, hence why he hasnt been leaked yet with his splashart. I assume that they are still on the making or just havent released it to the pbe.

Riot has suggested that the champion might be released by the end of the year. So, its pretty much still on air.

They could have put in something diegetically about Wrathion still being a little bit uncanny valley since he hasn't quite nailed down shapeshifting.
