My Call, Alastair, Sarah headcanons:
Alastair's family is British/Irish/German
Sarah's mom's family is British/Irish/German but also Slavic and Jewish (ethnically and religiously). Sarah's dad is mixed English and Cherokee. Her dad took her mom's last name (Novak).
Sarah was very sweet and kind and a little introverted.
Call doesnt have an actual religion because Alastair doesn't either so Call wasnt raised in any religion. But Call does find himself drawn to pagan/Wiccan inspired spirituality and eventually embraces that more.
So Call is ethnically Jewish bc of Sarah, but not religiously Jewish like she was because Alastair didn't know how to raise him in that religion.
Growing up in a small town in the South, Call has religious trauma because he grew up around so many hyper-religious conservatives.
Call is distrusting of religion for a long time because of this but after he gets close with Aaron and Tamara and starts to heal from that.
Alastair was born in the UK and moved to the US with his parents at like 9 or 10, and hence went to the Magisterium in the US at 12.
Sarah's parents were mages and died due to the war.
Alastair's parents aren't mages. They are alive but Alastair has no contact with them because they were not good parents and he doesn't want to be around them or for Call to be around them.
Call was born in the cave in Peru. So when Alastair first finds him in the cave post-massacer he takes him to a hospital in a nearby town in Peru. Therefore Call's birth is recorded in Peru and he is a legal citizen of Peru. He was also born a US citizen though because Sarah was born in the US and Alastair had become a citizen by that point so he has US citizenship through them.
Call has BPD, C-PTSD, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, and depression.
Alastair has C-PTSD and depression.
When Call was baby and little kid he briefly went to a daycare specifically for disabled kids until Alastair couldnt afford it anymore, where they taught all of the kids sign language so Call is fluent in ASL.
Call took German in public school an is pretty decent at speaking/reading/understanding it.
Alastair would curse in Irish and Gaelic a lot to try to avoid anyone understanding him. But since Call grew up with it he knows all the cursing.
Alastair calls Call both "Call" and "Callum" pretty equally and goes between both a lot.
After Alastair had to remove Call from the daycare he started hiring a neighbor to watch Call who was a stay-at-home-spouse and hence had the time to accept the job. She was Hispanic and she would speak Spanish a lot during that time so Call understands Spanish pretty well and can speak it a little bit.
Alastair's accent is a weird mish-mash of his original British accent and an American accent.
Alastair watched BBC America constantly when he wasn't working because it could help him zone out. And so Call watched all the shows with him and can replicate all sorts of different British accents really accurately.
Alastair smokes because of stress/depression/trauma
Call had extremely limited mobility through most of his childhood and couldn't really walk or stand much when he was really young.
Call was in doctor's offices and hospitals a lot because of his leg.
Call probably also has other disabilities stemming from his fall, like problems with his hips and a few issues in his lower back. He may also have had a concussion as a baby due to the fall which could have delayed things like speech, reading, writing, math, etc for him when he was a little kid.
Call didnt talk much until around the age of 5 and needed to see speech therapists along with his physical therapists.
Alastair is both extremely overprotective and overly hands-off in different ways when it comes to parenting.
Call is allowed to go explore a lot with little supervision which is why he gets into so much trouble.
He always ends up places he isn't supposed to be like abandoned buildings, back alleys, junk yards, etc. He doesn't really do it out of rebellion so much as he just doesn't care that he's technically not allowed to be there and just wants to explore somewhere interesting where no one else is around and he can be alone.
He also hangs out in the woods a lot because he likes to be around the trees and animals.
Alastair doesn't like him being around other people, and Call doesnt like being around other people either so he tends to explore where there aren't many people.
He also spends a lot of time inside at home because of his disability, like on days that the pain is bad or he has having difficulty moving much. And because home is his safe space since he was absused by his classmates at school. So he stays inside a lot too because it's the one place he feels completely safe.
That's also why he adventures in places where there isn't likely to be other people. Because he doesn't trust people, especially the other kids in his town.
Because Call spends a lot of time inside due to distrust of people and because of his disabilities, he got very skilled with a lot of things because he would do them all the time.
Because Call spends so much time alone he is extremely well read (kinda canon tbh) and sometimes when Alastair is mad at him for something Call will respond sarcastically with a Shakespeare quote because he knows that Alastair will be amused enough by it that he'll become less angry.
Alastair is also very scholarly so he encourages that in Call.
I love the headcanon someone else here had about Call being read Shakespeare as bedtime stories.
Call can play drums and electric guitar and spends a good chunk of his time doing that at home because it's relaxing for him.
He blasts rock music in his headphones and then tries to play along to the song on one of the instruments. If he messes up he curses really loudly because he can't hear himself over the music.
Alastair keeps telling him not to blare music directly into his ears like that, but Call does it anyway.
Call is predominantly self taught when it comes to his drumming and guitar because Alastair could afford used instruments but not lessons. So he mainly learns off of YouTube videos and general experimenting.
Call used mobility aids through most of his childhood.
Call is a big fan of Back to The Future, Lord of the Rings (books and movies), and the How to Train Your Dragon movie because he relates to Hiccup (even moreso after getting Havoc).
Call watched Finding Nemo on repeat as a child because he found it really relatable. Alastair never sat and watched it with him so he never realized what it was actually about.
Call probably also watched that 1970s animated version of The Hobbit a lot.
He likes musicals but doesn't tell anyone about it because he's kinda embarrassed. His favorite is Into the Woods because again, he finds it relatable. Although with Finding Nemo he sees himself and his dad in it but for Into The Woods he just sees Alastair. So he feels like the play helps him understand his dad better.
Call is demiromantic and asexual. He is mlm but doesn't label his sexuality much outside of mlm and doesn't worry about the details. He is also a little bit genderqueer and enjoys messing around with what people think a "boy" would look like, so he wears eyeliner and nail polish.
Call's favorite bands are Bad Company, Allman Brothers, Led Zepplin, Styx, Rush and Eagles.
His favorite songs are "Carry On (My Wayward Son)" by Kansas, "Renegade" and "Fooling Yourself" by Styx, and "Tom Sawyer" and "Fly By Night" by Rush.
Call is extremely knowledgeable about history and ends up basically teaching their history classes at the Magisterium because he has extensive contextual information about historical events that Rufus doesn't, and corrects Rufus on a lot of stuff too.
Call doesn't have a southern accent but he does use a lot of the speech patterns/slang people with southern accents often do, and sometimes when he's mad a bit of a southern accent slips out.
Call is very introverted both naturally and due to his traumas, and has a lot of self hatred. Learning he is Constantine only makes it that much worse. But Aaron and Tamara are able to help him heal overtime and realize that he isn't a bad person and that he is worthy of love and happiness.

hiya, 🌻 here again~
I just got annoyed by a post's insinuation today that saying the bi lesbian label contributes to men going after lesbians is biphobic and that bi women should be allowed to appropriate our label to help keep men away from them when MEN GO AFTER LESBIANS REGARDLESS they want to abuse us and sexually assault us and saying youre a bi woman who doesnt want men to bother you by appropriating lesbian identity doesnt help either of us!!!!
appropriating lesbian identity is lesbophobic because there is real intercommunity abuse from bi women towards lesbians i have had it literally happen to me, I had been peer pressured for weeks by bi women in one of the first queer spaces I came out in about if I'm 'really not attracted to men' and 'just holding myself back' and gaslight and objectified to my face by them (including one of them that I was dating at the time) and bi men that were there and I'm already a trans woman I have very few places where I'm respected as myself and to be hurt like that has forever scarred me.
And I dont want bi women to be 'free to be abused by men because theyre available to men' i want bi women to stop pretending they are like me when they do not experience life or my struggles like i do! and can contribute to them! i want to help bi women to not have to worry about men pressuring them when they dont want it no woman deserves that but i wont let them appropriate my identity in the process when bi people have the position and ability and sometimes the inclination to replicate that lesbophobia against me!
Sorry I just read a post where someone basically said 'bi women should be able to call themselves lesbians if they want to avoid men' when that literally helps noone and they have literal power they can wield over me as a lesbian who is not attracted to men and suffers for it. Yes we both suffer violence from men who dont respect women's autonomy but you don't get to appropriate my identity because of that it doesnt make anything better.
anyway rant over! I hope things go well for you with the gal you met recently ❤️❤️❤️ wishing you the best!
Heyy
It’s SO frustrating not being able to complain about lesbophobia in the LGBTQ+ community because every time we do this we’re accused of being biphobic as a way to silence us and normalize lesbophobia. Meanwhile I see a lot of bi people generalizing lesbians and hating on us and NO ONE cares about this but lesbians.
People assume lesbians wanting everyone to understand even though we’re sapphics just like bi/pan sapphics we still have unique experiences that they don’t understand and never will! Just as they have unique issues and experiences us lesbians don’t understand and we don’t push and pressure them to be included in bi spaces…
I truly wish people in the community stopped treating the lesbian label as an umbrella term. We already have sapphic. I feel like a lot of these discussions usually come from people assuming lesbian = sapphic so that’s why we should include all sapphics in everything.
All these people you mentioned don’t care about lesbians at all and they don’t even hide that lol they desperately need to understand not everything is about bi sapphics and that lesbophobia is a real issue.
Thank you! I also hope it goes well hahah! At least we’re still talking. I hope you’re having a good day! ❤️

Would .. would you mind telling us about your clover fanon.. I am so very curious they’re my darling ever
sorry i read this and went "i should answer that" and then i forgor. i just rembdered though! some fucked up themes tho. animal death + general mommy issues and he has some Mental Problems <3 also off the bat. he's Soooo unlabeled to me but uses he/him and kisses boys. i dont think he really cares abt the pronouns though either hes literally just hanging out. ok so! First and foremost. The reason he is Like That is because he is [sparkling emoji] one of white lily's experiments! Particularly she took a deer from the millenial forest [holy animal], sacrificed it, and baked it into a cookie [she left the lily villiage at some point in the past but knows the forest's secrets still so. lol]. however he didn't really turn out and the powers he Did get from it aren't replicable,,, at this point she hasnt gone Completely off the deep end so she doesnt completely abandon him like she does for crepe later but he Did feel fundamentally unwanted and kind of just. Left her grove seeking to fufill what she wanted out of him [not realizing he's a failure by principle no matter what he does] he is by most means a wanderer. picks up his lute, grows fond of the forest animals as he travels along [avoiding villiages because well. he is kind of a freak of nature and also just general Tism makes him seem like much more of a possibly ill-willed cryptid than he is]. he has a very strong desire to become what his mom wanted from him but also develops an appreciation for the world and wants to see more of it. eventually finds himself in the millenial forest [and lily villiage],,, and while they do welcome him its clear with the way they look at him he is the Outsider and very fucked up . eventually speaks to millenial himself and he takes pity on him and gives him what he wants [immortality] so he can live up to his purpose and keep traveling the world. Eventually as a bard once he realizes thats a thing that exists. and honestly once he comes to terms with how he'll never have a relationship with his mom [the lily grove, a mess of illusions, doesnt really let him in deep enough to where she is] he just doesnt hang onto it and does what he planned to. he has to bear the horrors of immortality but honestly it isnt,,, too terrible with his aloof nature? Like. Immortal or not he's perfectly used to his animal companions dying over time and he mostly has superfiicial relationships with other cookies. i'd say the worse thing for him is he's very,,, distant a lot. it's also part of the learned mentality of a bard/storyteller [watch what happens and remember it instead of engaging in it] and learning Things Hurt once they go away in his immortality. he's been around 2-300 years and is mostly just chill. has leaned into that cryptic guy of the woods thing a bit. he really is just hanging out. he's also probably a little traumatized from all the shit hes bore witness to [especially the dfw when he put together the dots of wl's experiments and de's goals] but idk. he just generally does not caare. he eats poisonous mushrooms for fun ebcause theyr'e yummy and dont effect him because he's immortal/in a weird position of being almost divine with what he's made of. also some time post canon he meets a mostly-human robot [copperbell, my wife's oc] who's seeing the world for the first time after being trapped in the city of wizards up until very recently. they hang out a lot. two immortal guys very passionate about music who hang out. one who's very passionate for the world and one who wants to know so much about it . yeah they're yaoi eventually . the machine and nature CAN have gay sex WOOO

Oh but on a better note I’m going over to my parents tomorrow for lots of tasty food and maybe watch a movie or play some games idk yet my sleepings sorta fucked itself again.
I have too many dietary issues so food is really a big deal for me now (although things are definitely improving in terms of choice at supermarkets but its still expensive so eh) But there’s this place that does GF vegan cream teas, cakes and they keep expanding to other things. Anyways mostly I just really love their scones especially because they now have a dairy free alternative to the clotted cream & its so good! They also have some savoury items now too. I really want to try their quiches. Usually my mum also gets me some of their mini cake loafs & brownies, the mini cake loafs are the kinda thing you’d expect for a cream tea so not massive but they now do proper sized cake loads actually their pretty fucking big. Oh and we found a place that does a GF Vegan birthday cake that is soo good. It uses more of a chocolate ganache instead of icing and the centre is raspberry it’s not a jam like a Victoria sponge has but its made with real raspberries and its really tasty and fresh. It’s from this place in the UK called Lola’s cupcakes they mostly have pop up stalls that’s how we found them well my brother did when he was in London they had a stand near the station selling cupcake versions of the same thing. Oh and my dad managed to snag some of Aldis vegan ‘not salmon’ its meant to be smoked salmon so heres hoping it tastes good. I find fish stuff is harder to replicate then again it depends I tried some good ‘fish cakes’ before but I tried some vegan ‘prawns’ years ago that were disgusting and some vegan ‘tuna’ that was oddly sweet. But it is one of the few items that is GF. Veganuary kinda sucks now because most of the stuff that comes out isn’t GF but there’s still some gems actually Aldi surprised me with how many items were GF in the fake meat section as prior to this they had 1 fake meat item that was GF now they have many including ‘pulled pork which I didn’t expect to be GF at all. I just hope they keep these new lines after veganuary is over cos last year they didnt well some stayed but most disappeared and it sucked and it’s not like it doesnt sell either my local Aldi was wiped out of the vegan salmon and a lot of the other stuff when I went I got so upset so my dad went to the one near him he did however by 3 packs of the stuff so I really hope I like it.

Literally art is nothing but symbolism?? The whole point of art is to create a piece that communicates an idea to your audience, in a way your audience will understand. Whether the art succeeds in doing so is a different conversation, but regardless of that, the only way to communicate ideas in a visual medium is THROUGH symbols! And symbols dont have to be something deep like "oh the curtains are blue which means xyz about the emotional state of the people living in the building". Sometimes it does, of course, but more often the symbols are much simpler than that!
Imagine a heart, for example. Youre likely either imagining a cartoony heart shape like you would get with an emoji, or a realistic rendition of a human heart. Both of those shapes are regularly used to communicate a heart. That is a symbol. It is quite literally as simple as that, even if we arent going in depth about how theyre both colored red and the emotional and symbolic ties to the color red. That deeper symbolism can be used to bring you to a greater understanding of the piece and make some cool connections, but its not necessary. What is necessary is that you can look at a very specific shape and your brain will automatically recognize that shape as a heart. Thats what symbolism is.
And with the above art piece, a human can look at a painting of soldiers walking into the water and make the connection that theyre supposed to be getting off their ships and marching OUT of the water, onto land, where their battle is. But theyre not, in this image. Theyre marching into the waves. It doesnt take much imagination to make the connection that theyre marching to their deaths that way. So instead of depicting soldiers on their way to fight a glorious battle, as the AI prompter probably intended, its depicting soldiers walking to their doom. That isnt some super deep symbolism, there. Its jist the most surface level thing you can notice looking at the piece!
But AI cant notice that. Its only trained to recognize patterns - it can connect symbols to their name, but not to their meaning. It could generate a battle scene for you including battle ships and the waves of the ocean, but it doesnt understand that the soldiers are marching to their deaths if theyre going towards the ocean instead of away from it. And thats the issue here.
Symbolism is literally the entire basis of art, and AI can only do so much to replicate it.
AI people: we're just as much artists as you are, you gotta be so observant and go through so many correcting phases for the picture to look good uwu also AI people:

what if its theatre performance something they cooked up for the media and to distrct the public?
why do stupid people like mhj keep garnering more attention bc it almost looks like they set it up perfectly for her to play the victim in all of it even tho shes done some bad shit she will still garner public sympathy some way or other. idrc much about it but im so tired of the way its everywhere literally the more people bring it up the more its giving her what she want and why oh why someone doesnt just put her out of her misery so that people can move on?
their groups will always gain success so its not impacting the groups badly in anyway just that those adults cannot seem to make the companies function properly. all in all its just tiring to see kpop have so much drama and negativity on a daily basis. it really is every week where either idols get backlash or someone in the company does something to make someone else get backlash. obviously concepts are going to clash bc kpop largely focuses on imagery and conceptual based performances. maybe if it focused more on the music itself instead or has it ever heard of less is sometimed more? maybe its bitten off more than it can chew and it probs needs a reality check.
People falling for MHJ's bullshit is yet more proof of why Trump won the presidential elections. Millionaires with their millionaire problems being relatable is hilarious.
I'm not following this whole drama too closely, but everything Bang PD did for MHJ?? Wild. He dug his own grave.
Most of the drama surrounding Hybe idols is not Hybe nor the idols' fault though... And Hybe is about making money, not music - even with BTS it was never just about the music. Hybe have a lot of good music though, but bad production. They have better music than concepts and idols imo. Anyway, Hybe's mistake was the same as other companies', which was replicate what worked. They saw NJ success and gave LSF Perfect Night - a chill title track when before they only had chill bsides - and then debuted ILLIT with a soft teen concept. It's like all SM groups sounding like NCT...
I don't know, there are a lot of issues with Hybe.
Thanks for the ask!

On Monster Food
Headcanon time again guys! Here I will share what we know about food, and a few ideas of my own that i may or not include when writing because why not? Worldbuilding is fun! Everything will be under the cut!
What do we know? There are a few instances on the game where food is brought up in conversations. From talking to one of the NPCs in Grillby's we learn that the food we eat is different in some aspects, such as:
It doesn't spoil, meaning everything is non-perishable.
It does not go through your body, because when you eat it, it converts perfectly into energy.
It can be commonly eaten in battle
Tumblr media
Alright folks! Let's jump to headcanon-zone.
How is food produced? In most aspects it seems to work exactly the same way human food does. It can be homemade, storebought, made using kitchen appliances or with help of magic (like Toriel, Asgore (and likely Grillby seem to do). Now the interesting part is... how they get prime matter for that. Surprisingly, some plants do grow underground. whether they were brought before the sealing or they just naturally occur in the caverns, it is clear that some food can be made that way. Examples of that are the golden flower tea, the hot dogs Sans sells (even if their quality can be questioned) or the seaweed Alphys uses to make ice cream for Undyne.
Other food seems to be made using other organisms like snails, or spiders. This is... kinda weird, because it is... somewhat implied the snails at the Blook Acres and the spiders are sentient. Yet either they consent to being used in food, or perhaps they can replicate part of themselves with magic, and make material bullets. A third option is that simply they use regular insects or animals, but monsters are really careful with them as to not mistreat them and only use them when necessary. This could be what happens with meat, too. It's entirely possible they do keep some livestock in places we never saw. Someone like Asgore, who knows how to take care of plants, probably has some idea on this topic, even more so as a ruler.
I believe some magic intervention occurs with food to make it have those properties. Magic probably works like a glue that keeps food fresh but also makes it dissolve as soon as its eaten and turned into energy. Why does it heal?
Food is energy that goes straight to your soul and then to your body. Eating food provides the enegy your soul needs to heal and enhance the connections it has to the body (imagine each HP like a string that connects soul and body). If the person's healed up, then it can be used to other functions of the body or in magic. Eating when in full HP makes the material contents of the food matter a lot more than they would when you're just using it to heal. Some monsters have a diet rich in proteins, others go more for carbohydrates and so on. Depends on their needs.
Can humans eat monster food?
Yes! I mean, we have tons of examples. Still I wouldn't recommend eating things that you wouldnt if they were material lol and ghost food is out the question. Can monsters eat human food?
Depends. Can they generate the organs within them to make that work? Animal-based monsters are the most likely to be able to eat without much issue but it's a bit heavy for them. Monsters that have less corporeal bodies can try, but it... probably isn't effective or practical. Exhibit A, this cursed attempt of Sans drinking:
Tumblr media
Note: i don't think he can reshape his mouth like that when in canon it barely moves but the thing is that well... if you pour a drink that doesnt immediately turn into energy, things get messy.
Ghost simply cannot try untreated human food. Their food has to be magic-based. Similarly, humans are not compatible with ghost food either and it is tasteless for corporeal monsters, based on the Alarm Clock dialogue. One could even argue that non-ghosts can't even perceive it. But that's for a different time!

@hiccups-peg-leg, this is for you (your fuckin username man, its glorious)
HI AND WELCOME TO 100 + 1 REASONS I'M BEGINNING NOT TO LIKE HTTYD:THW
Disclaimer: It might not actually reach 50 reasons because I have a healthy amount of concern for my fingers
It makes sense as the final part of a trilogy, for them to separate, but the whole set up of how the separation goes was...blargh.
Hiccup was not acting like himself.
Neither was Toothless, actually.
Astrid was weaker in supporting Hiccup. I mean, don't get me wrong, she was still as badass as always, but never have I been more uncomfortable with her way of "supporting" Hiccup throughout this entire movie.
"You gave him his freedom, what did you expect?" BITCH WHAT
THIS IS NOT SOME CALL OF THE WILD BULLSHIT WHAT THE FUCK
part of the reason Toothless STAYED even when Hiccup presented him with an automated tail was because he preferred BERK. you know, a civilised, NOT WILD settlement even if Toothless himself was a wild dragon prior
in fact NONE of the dragons were being forced to stay there. Which means they CHOSE to stay with humans.
Why was there no internal conflict between Berk? Why are they all just following Hiccup after some discussion about "Berk is not a place, its the people and our dragons!"??? Just???? They didn't feel like a village at all, is what I'm saying.
For the record, I think Valka and Cloudjumper would have been harder to separate because these two were together for like twenty years why wouldn't they stick together???
Toothless should not have been the King of the Hidden world. there are several reasons.
1 - he was already a bad fucking leader when it came to priorities. he chose his MATE over his FLOCK. what the absolute fuck. 2- in coming to the hidden world, he promptly forgot about the BERKIAN FLOCK THAT HE HAD RESPONSIBILITIES TO. 3- it just doesnt make sense for all dragons to have bowed to him accepting him as their king. Night Furies are deadly, but they are not of the Dragon king breed. Toothless only managed that title because he FOUGHT a fucking dragon of that SPECIFIC breed. 4- he's horny as fuck. I'm sorry, it had to be said. He and the Light Fury have met for, what, a week at most? And already he's in love? Give me a fucking break. but anyways, my point is, if he dropped EVERYTHING HE KNEW AND LOVED for a person he BARELY GOT TO KNOW, then he should not have been made leader in the first place. 5- this is more personal, but fuck the fucking fact that he left hiccup for this unknown stranger. its like his human didnt even MATTER to him at all. which brings me to my next point.
why the ever loving FUCK did the team EVER imply that hiccup and toothless were SOULMATES if all they were gonna do is separate them and have toothless forget hiccup entirely.
are the dragons intelligent, sentient creatures
or are they just wild animals capable of replicating human behavior without understanding the deeper implications of it
because if the latter was true, then what the FUCK was the first two movies for?
the hidden world cannot exist in a geological scale. it cannot sustain itself either. if toothless did somehow recall EVERY dragon, then the ecosystem of the hidden world is suddenly shot to fucking hell.
the movie basically spat to our faces that romantic love is stronger than the power of friendship. and family.
im pretty sure GOTNF was canon, and THW just spits all over its message and story.
what happened to my badass dragon riders, dreamworks?
okay ill be honest A LOT of my issues with this movie are centered around toothless and hiccup
berk did not need to be separated from its dragons. in fact, dragons leaving berk, realistically speaking, would actually be detrimental to berk.
for one thing, theyd be totally cut off from the rest of the world -- they suddenly relocated without any warning, to a place where no one had actually explored thus far. traders would not have known where to find them and, if they were in the merchant thinking mode, would cut their losses and find some other village to trade to. so new berk isnt gonna get any support for a long while.
berk chose an island than can only be safely accessed via dragons. do you see where im going with this?
by choosing to LET DRAGONS GO, hiccup and toothless have now condemned Berk into a generation of hardship, one that will make its people struggle with getting supplies, rebuild their homes, and basically a lot of their basic survival needs.
and MIGHT I ADD, hiccup has REVOLUTIONIZED the viking way of life by INCORPORATING dragons into it. what happens when that system suddenly loses a big chunk of what made that system work?
may i also add that hiccup has also REVOLUTIONIZED the term BIG DUMBASS when referring to decisions that were made.
im also salty about how quickly toothless forgot about hiccup when entering the hidden world. like, holy fuck, i cannot even begin to explain how dreadful i felt when toothless was just "oh fuck yeah" in that glowing neon underground while poor hiccup was like "do you think he's okay?"
if it were me, toothless would at least be having a moment to himself, looking at his tail, and you can clearly see in his eyes, "what about my human? what about berk?" before getting distracted. I would have accepted at LEAST that.
nope. we get a toothless reluctantly going back to hiccup and new berk, resentful and somber as he longs for, what, a home?
goddamn it i hate the hidden world in the movie the hidden world. i like the movie, i really really do, but that fucking plot device grates my fucking brain.
RTTE handled a dragon haven a lot better.
Vanaheim was a perfect place for wild dragons to settle but dreamworks fucking abolished that idea
i KNOW vanaheim is like a resting place for sick dragons but like
if hiccup was half as smart as he was the first two movies thw wouldnt have been a thing in the first place.
its really, really hard for me to defend a movie i liked the first time i watched it when the only things i can see from it are toothless not caring enough about hiccup and hiccup making the niggest mistake of his life.
this movie honestly felt like emotional manipulation. watching it i always remembered the other two movies, which should NOT have happened. when i watched the second movie (and may i add i barely remembered a thing about the first movie at the time) i was so MOVED to the point of TEARS. i had no context and i was moved to tears anyway. THW constantly pulled at my nostalgia strings and indirectly and directly called back to the first two movies and that just....what???
and that's it.
i mean if youd like to add more feel free to, probably missed some there
and there are a couple of ao3 essays that depict the same reasons i have. just put the tag "the hidden world" in your filters uwu
one last thing: despite the reasons i mentioned above i did enjoy watching thw, im just sayin it took me a long time and a lot of reading to figure out that, no, thw wasnt as great as the hype made it seem.
this isnt meant as an attack to people who like THW. i understand that this movie is special to you and I have no right to take enjoyment from you. im just laying out the reasons of why I personally don't agree with what happened in THW.

So I've been into Among Us recently and im thinking of a whole world for it. Its still a very much W.I.P as most stuff isn't completely thought out and is unorganized but I kinda wanna share. I'm going to be either updating this or making a new post every time this has a big enough update.
World:
After earth was destroyed (climate change, humans, aliens) they found a new earth almost exactly like earth but way more toxic, can only last 6 hours before death.
Because of earth being destroyed the remaining of humanity (maybe around 30,000 total?) All piled onto a massive ship more than big enough to house all those people and even replicate stuff earth had (like jungles, animals, weather, etc). Took hundreds of years and a fuck ton of new technology to make it. *Ship not yet named*
2 main political parties exist in the ship, 1 group wants to find a new planet that they can land on and live on, 1 who wants to stay for the benefit of earth. There's a 3rd one more focused with the imposter virus but no one really listens to them.
Relationships are hard to manage in this world because the imposter virus and it can be anywhere makes it hard for trust to form. Leading to accusations and anger and betrayal (plus depending on what TYPE of the virus it is, they can reveal hidden things about the person they possessed). For anyone in the "Yes" section its more because of the months spent apart.
There are the Yes and No sections of the ship. Yes is where people who are willing to be exposed to the virus live, they tend to live in better homes  and dont need to work to be paid (but if they do work they can choose between sending money to some of the no people or keeping) but aren't as happy and tend to be depressed (from killing) and have extreme trust issues.
No is where people who don't want to expose themselves live, they tend to live poorer and have to work and are exposed to problems this world (irl) has.
Virus + Game:
Imposter is actually the name for a parasite that exists in space. The parasite chooses whoever they want as their victim and possess them. No one knows when this happens. Not even the victim. The Imposter chooses when they want to attack, and when the first body is found or the first sabotage goes off (when that happens they find multiple stuff has been sabotaged (like wires)). Because they don't know when the imposter has joined they never know when oxygen or anything that could quickly affect and kill them (tho that kind of rarely happens because most of the time the imposter loves the game. But it has happened a few times) be sabotaged. Once all tasks/repairs are done the ship is able to do a full crew scan and can determine who the imposter is and kick them out. This part is called "The Game"
There are different strains of the virus. Main 2 are monsters (the kill where you get pierced), and Physical (Gun, neck, knife kill). There are also sub versions.
Bloodlust: Tends to be monster, starts the game much sooner, more violent and kills often.
Thinker: Tends to be Physical (Gun), takes their time in everything, tends to attack on way back to the main ship, gets to know victims, most mentally long term damaging, plays everything safe, less sus out of everyone, its a bit more likely the crewmates will finish all their tasks first before it can kill everyone due to all its caution.
Newers: Tends to be Physical (Knife) Slowish, comes off as a very new crewmate, doesnt know where stuff is, is either super sus or super non-sus and there is no in-between, seems innocent and confused but is actually very deadly and experienced (Their called Newers due to how they act).
Intimator: Tend to be Physical but is just as likely to be Monster, perfectly replicates the possessed person (the others always have something wrong in their hosts personality minimum), unlike the others has physical attributes (Eyes tend to become either red or opposite color of hosts (cause why not?)), is the hardest to find, (IT IS VERY VERY RARE BUT THERE IS A CHANCE A INTIMATOR COULD NOT INHERIT THE HOSTS MEMORIES. THIS IS MOSTLY FOR A STORY IM WRITING THAT REQUIRES THIS BUT YEAH), tends to win any games they take part in.
ONLY THINKER AND BLOODLUST DO NOT HAVE MEMORIES OF THE POSSESSED PERSON. THE REST DO.
No one knows why the difference versions can be so different or how the stuff like memory works.
Identities are typically kept a secret because the imposter has shown in the past to use what they share against them.
Anyone who dies get their dog tags (name, age, birth, etc. Multiple copies) taken at end of game and gets resurrected. They retain all memory of what they did as the Imposter.
If imposter won the parriste leaves the body and the person tends to resurrects everyone, if person is unable to do it for whatever reason the ship will automatically do it after 8 minutes.
People can permanently die. If they are left un-resurrected for a minimum of 12 hours or there are no more dog tags or anything at all that contains the needed information they will permanently die.
So yeah thats what I have rn. Like I said I'll update it when I work everything out more.

Fluffy prompt if youre feeling up for it: both Mirage and Crypto are smart, though crypto doesnt fully realise that about Elliott until he ends up in a conversation with him about tech. Elliotts holo tech knowledge and Taes expertise in coding/IT are similar yet different enough fields that their talks are interesting and engaging without being totally lost on each other, they can talk for hours without realising it. Their talks are like dates to them, and its entirely lost on the other legends
BOYS BONDING OVER TECH!!!! AN UNDERRATED CRYPTAGE CONCEPT!!! I'll definitely see what I can do!! ✨
---
Mirage was, without a doubt, one of the biggest idiots Park has ever had the displeasure of entertaining a single conversation. He was full of himself, had the intelligence of a rock, and took credit where it was due elsewhere. If Park could despise one man for all eternity, then it would be that bumbling idiot.
Said bumbling idiot was busily tinkering away in the workshop. After matches, a lot of the Legends were seen in here doing maintenance on their equipment, either for improvements or repairs. Octavio was probably the more frequent one, always needing to repair his prosthetics after a nasty stunt or match went poorly in his favor. Ajay was another, frequently having to fix D.O.C. after the poor drone gets kicked around when she's healing the medic's teammates, and some who carelessly trip over her, like she isn't even there. (And if someone saw Park forcefully stifle a laugh after witnessing Elliott fall face-first into the snow once after tripping over her, then he'd easily deny any and all accusations.)
Park noticed, however, that he and Elliott were also frequently in there. Park's drone was rather fragile, and it was easily destroyed with a single, well-timed shot. The poor thing goes through hell every match, and Park was grateful the little automation decided to stick by him so much despite it. Elliott, though, seemed to work on his holo devices, most likely attempting to improve on the already realistic decoys (and, no, that isn't something he'd admit to the other; no need to inflate that already enormous ego any further).
Frankly, his holographic devices were fascinating pieces of technology. Able to replicate Elliott's entire person without any notable flaws aside from no auditory functionality? Frankly, he's surprised the other is capable of understanding such advanced technology, let alone capable of improving upon it.
And that's when Park found himself entertaining a conversation with the man once again, this time on much, much better terms.
"Yeah, I'm planning on trying to make them interact with the environment more," the trickster explained, hazel eyes wide and full of energy. "Climb up walls and maybe use zip-lines! It'd totally blow everyone's mind."
"Sure, but you need to make it so they're actually capable of that. Coming into contact with a surface might not be enough to have them move on it," Park supplied, trying to focus on repairing his drone's broken wing. "Your holograms lack an AI. Perhaps you can record data of yourself climbing and using zip-lines and see if messing with their programming yields any results."
"That could work, yeah." Elliott nodded, smiling, as his own gaze traveled from the holographic devices to Park's own drone. "That little guy's kinda fragile. Say, why don't you add armor to him? Y'know, kinda how we have the body shields in the game—it'd make him more durable."
Frankly, Park feels like an idiot for not adding something to that effect sooner. "Hm. You're right. I don't know if I can do that on a drone, though."
"You could! Works on Pathfinder. He's a robot. Issue is trying to find a way to prevent its shields from getting knocked off after you EMP."
"… And not the good kind?"
"Definitely not the good kind."
The hacker allowed a soft snort to escape him, raising the drone to examine his work; the wing appeared fixed for now. "I'm still not sure what that means."
"I'll tell you when you're older." Elliott sent a wink towards the hacker, who only responded with his eyes rolling in faux exasperation. "Still, I'd definitely look into making your drone at least a little more sturdy. One shot and boom!" The trickster mimicked an explosion with his hands, supplying a sound effect to go along with it. "Dead. Plus, it'd probably be happy to not be shot down every ten seconds."
"I guess you're right… I'll look into that at a later date."
Meanwhile, as the two tech nerds went at it, Ajay and Octavio were at their own stations. Instead of focusing on their own devices, however, they were watching the two interact on, for once, much friendlier terms. It didnraise questions, though.
"Would this be, like, their form of a date?" the daredevil asked offhandedly, and Ajay almost burst out laughing.
"Knowin' dem, it's ta only way dey'd get along."
Octavio let out a chuckle of his own, leaning back against his table. "Five bucks says they get together after a week."
"Two weeks. I'm bettin' Witt's gonna say sometin' stupid."
"Deal."

Prey OC:Lyamna Lyam and Anna (whose collective entity is usually refered to as "Lyamna"), are one of the resulting phantoms from one of Vix's geminis genesis research branches, when trying to replicate Weaver specimen "Darren"'s ability at creating multiple phantoms at once. However, since they are among the very first succesful experiments, and there was an error when placing them too close one-another (This issue was effectively take care of and solved in future batches), resulted in both corpses merging together when they collided after starting to levitate (start of the genesis process) and instead of making two phantoms, the end result was a single entity, with the mind of the hosts almost intact and sharing the same body.
When human, they used to be young sibblings (RN, its still hard to determine if that relation is still valid). And much to Vix's despair, their behaviour hadn't improved an inch post-process, and the bitterness between both sibblings is just as present as ever (asuming being stitched together 24/7 doesnt increase it of course). They are also a bit bitter with Vix about their situation, and call him by the lovely address of "Bitx" at his back (and not so much at his back as well)
Anna was a couple minutes older than Lyam, so she usually pretends to act as the older sister (even though they technically are the same age). In this form, she is the ether phantom, and controls the half of the body themed as such. Her powers are related to ether, but instead of common ether phantoms powers, she can mainly channel ether to her arms and make it spin around them to make some sort of shield or weapon at will (her favourite being the self-called "ether drill"), or create a ether cloud to get cloaked and make enemies unable to attacks due to coughing fits. However, turns out her brother, unlike her, is not inmune to said power either Right Now,so she tries to avoid using it too much (even though she won’t admit she does it for him)
Lyam's powers, due to his Thermal phantom DNA, is obviously heat related. But again, instead of working as his Typhon counterpart's work, has been tweeked. He can channel heat energy directly from their "Typhon Star" to his arms and hands to either shoot rows upon rows of plasma volleys or expell said thermal energy in bursts resembling, in a way, how a flamethower would work
The most interesting feature of these guys is found at their very core (quite literally); after the genesis, some clogs of Typhon matter in the middle of them collapsed on thenselves and crystalized in a ordered, crystaline structure scientifically named "Thermal-ethereal xenobiotic-fusion core",Commonly known as the "Typhon Star", whose hardness and density surpasses that of diamond. Not even Vix knows how nor why did it form, but its name was chosen that way because it seems to be the source of energy (of undefined autonomy) of their powers.
Further reserch concluded the Typhon Star sort of works like a reactor of 1000 KJ/s, inside its crystaline surface, the ether undergoes some sort of atomic reaction which releases a massive amount of energy per second. This is later channeled to Lyam's body-half, while the ether waste resultant flows through Anna's body-half, allowing her to make use of it if she wants to. This essentially would explain how their powers are fueled. More reserch is advised in order to prepare better safety measures to neutralize them in emergency cases and to further learn about the White Phantom's experiment's advances.
PS (Dr. Tyrenn) : "We've been receiving strange sentience signatures from the ominous shadow present below them at all times, as if it was another sentient being like both of them. However some times said signature simply.... Vanishes! As it never really existed,or wasn't in Our universe anymore....Ugh we should test on that, but for now I gotta rest for a bit. Maybe this will make more sense in the Morning.... Dr. Tyrenn, out. "

Pontiac G6 lost key made in San Antonio TX
If you broken your key in the ignition or can't find the keys to your vehicle, you have a few ways to procure a new set of Pontiac G6 key replacement:
Driving to the San Antonio TX provincial dealer is in some cases presumably a affordable or snap possibility to create a fresh key by the VIN number, but in a few occasions (for example GM) the dealership require you to show a lawful car title or registration with an identical address on your photo ID. In a few other events, the dealership don't have access to obsolete key codes by the vehicle identification number (for example Mazda, Mercury and Ford), the dealer-ship may forge recovery keys merely for models from the last ten years.
As well as the constraints above, in varied occasions, your car is locked on the highway in a far country side, with a locked with the key in the truck or broken key in the ignition and to use the dealer-ship will interpolate close to surplus $100 for a tow truck service.
About Pontiac G6 key and lock instrument
Pontiac is the United States of America's international well-known vehicle maker of common cars and turn into being one of the bulkiest U.S.A car-maker since 1926.
Pontiac originate employing transponder chip keys in 1999. Decrepit  Pontiac chip keys can be copied by a convenient economical dash-board console duplication procedure.
Recent vehicles depends on year and model switched the keys and locks system to an encoded transponder keys that demand a unique key programmer and diagnostic devices in order to duplicate a spare key.
Starting from 2007, Several  Pontiac vehicles are utilizing push-to-start ignition and Passive Entry Passive Start (PEPS) as either standard or optional infrastructure.
Ignition repair
Seemingly one of the most generic manifestation of ignition issue is a motor vehicle that wont kindle, broken your ignition key, ignition key is stiffly turning or key is stuck and you cant goes off the engine.
Often your ignition issue is due to corrosion or dirt stuck in the ignition key crack or maybe a detach or broken arbor or pin inside the ignition switch preventing the ignition from turning around as usual.
Defective ignition lock must be replaced or repaired straight-away and is a duty better done by a well versed motor vehicle locksmith (in particular if your vehicle is furnished with air bags).  ignition cylinder repair or replacement generally involves removing the steering column, which might create unsafe airbag positioning if done by non-experience hands. Ignition switch repair or replacement normally costs $145–$349.
When dealeng with a damaged key, the symptom may be that key will only turn half way in the ignition which actually mean that the key is damaged and need to be out placed. A damaged key better be duplicated from the vehicle ID number to avoid the liability of replicating the problem to the  cut and programmed key. An automobile lock smith should use suitable Pontiac G6 cutters, programmers and diagnostic tools to construct a brand-new key which will costs $160–$260.
Chipped key create
Towenty years ago manufacturers of automobiles world-wide changed nearly all of their vehicle key and lock mechanisms to electric anti theft system, passive anti theft or transponder chipped key keys including a little chip concealed into the key blade or bill likewise ECU.
Even though transponder chip key is absolutely helpful, copying isn't a rapid, moderate price trip to the regional hardware store or dealer-ship. Incidents like dead fob key battery, misplacing your keyless device at the beach or stolrn chipped key, on top of cutting a blank-key, the key has to be programmed to the car by a proper key programming machine done by a lock smith or at the dealer  and will cost approximately 180-600$ depend on maker, model and year.
Pontiac G6 proximity key
Proximity key remotes, also known as (RKE or RKS) allow a user to unlock and lock their truck or car clicking the remote besides other components like opening the trunk or kindling the fog lights to upsurge visibility in cold weather or at night. Moreover, many contemporary keys incorporate remote starting feature which is becoming mandatory on advanced cars.
Practically all smart-keys incorporate a proximity-detector-based technology that is triggered when the smart key located within a set range of the car. This Smart-key are hands free meaning that the car can be locked and unlocked or kindle and deactivate the car without driver input.
Copy vs lost car keys
Car keys in the last 2 decades cost much more then $1.50 metal bladed keys at a nearest walmart or home depot store. Current Pontiac G6 keys have gone computerized  high security, flip key, keyless entry device and keyfob consisting transponder keys that need to be programmatically synced with key coding machine to the car immobiliser. If the immobiliser doesnt identify a matching key, the combustible system will block and the motor vehicle wouldn't flare up. This infrastructure arranges a security factor safeguarding the cancellation of a misplaced or stolen key.
While dash-board platform is handy on few previous vehicles to conveniently duplicate keys, in most cases to get a supplementary key programmed, the transponder inside the key has to be programmatically synced by a compatible programmer owned by the dealership or a locksmith which customarily cost about $50-$120 in addition to the cost of the key blank.
A lost key to an automobile is a complete different situation, as the car computer module has to be re-coded to employ the new key and refuse the lost key which actually means that you will have hire a mobile motor vehicle locksmith or haul your car to the dealer.
Utilizing this practice arranges a security factor safeguarding the cancellation of the misplaced or stolen key, though key recovery, platform applicable solely to a licensed locksmith or the Pontiac G6 dealer-ship and therefore will priced as approximately $185–$270.

I really adore your writting and was wondering if you have any tips or advice? I've always had a vivid imagination that produces many story ideas, but when I try to write I find that I can't get whats in my head out into words. I don't know if you have trouble like this, but if you do what do you usually do? Sorry if I'm bothering you.
No bother at all!
To be perfectly honest… I struggle a lot when it comes to writing. I honestly couldn’t tell you what on earth I’ve managed to do in Goblin Men to make so many people love it and its style. I’ve been trying to pin it down and replicate it for my own books but it’s wonky.
A way I tend to go about things is to not really worry about the writing itself to begin with? I use Evernote a lot, and if I have an idea I REALLY like and want to explore, I create a notebook for that and just… create notes. I have notes that are only a few bits of dialogue and that’s it. If you do your writing digitally, I highly recommend Evernote, it syncs up online and you never really lose anything.
If I have an idea for a story, I try and write it down so I’ll remember it later. (I tend to monologue a lot of dialogue aloud, which I then forget. It’s a nightmare.) Got something for a character backstory? Jot it down. Got a neat bit of dialogue? Some worldbuilding? Some picture you found online that fits the theme, or an actor whose face fits a character? Put it somewhere you can access it and remember it. Slowly build. It helps, trust me. My first step is getting the ideas OUT of my head, and into Evernote. (I have an absolutely stupid amount of things in Evernote that will never see completion.)
I also follow some writing blogs. @writeworld, @clevergirlhelps, @nimblesnotebook are some that I’ve found recently that have cool tips and inspiration.
When it comes down to the actual nitty gritty of writing… it helps to have a nice writing program. And fonts. FOOOOOONNNTS. Love of my life. I use LibreOffice for my own writing projects. Lovely bit of free software.
I have issues with revising. My brain doesnt work in first draft/second draft/so on. I constantly keep going back and tweaking my work and Im desperately trying to get out of that habit.
I’m really not sure what my writing style is, or how it comes together. I really don’t. A friend was gonna analyze Goblin Men and hopefully she comes up with some answers.
It really helps if you have someone you can bounce ideas off of. I have two IRL friends, and any time I get an idea for Goblin Men, I immediately tell them. And then they yell at me. A lot. Find someone who can either give you critiques of ideas, or just… yell all-caps encouragement. Have someone to rant to about all those wonderful concepts. And KEEP THAT NOTE SYSTEM. It will be your salvation when you really get dedicated to a writing project.
Try for things like NaNoWriMo. Just try and write a little bit every day. Just a few sentences. It’ll help.
Pro tip: don’t write ten thousand words in present tense and then decide to change it to past tense. You will Suffer.
If you’re really stuck getting the ideas into a bookish format, try making an outline. I tend to work in bullet point lists in Evernote. Just write down the ideas you have for a Thing and don’t even really worry about putting them in chronological order at first.
For the writing itself… if music helps you think, find some nice background music. Have a snack. Sleep. Sit your butt down and make yourself write. You don’t even have to start at the beginning, just write what you’ve got at the moment. Half the time when I’m writing Goblin Men, I start the chapter, then head to the middle, then staple it together like a Frankenstein abomination.
I’ll tell you this cuz I need to get myself to understand it: it doesn’t need to be absolutely perfect right away. Let it be kinda shitty. Let it stumble along as you figure out the tone you want. The writing will catch up, just put the story to words.
If you’ve got 20 bucks, I’ll point you towards ZenWriter. It’s a program that fills up your entire screen, and you can select a custom background and it plays soothing music, and you can make it so when you type, it makes an old typewriter noise. As you’re typing, the only thing you see are the words.
If you have trouble with distractions, that can be really helpful. I’ve found in the past that when using ZenWriter, once I get going, I don’t want to stop. It’s just me and the words.
Make little notes. Write down ANY cool idea you have, especially if you’re working on a big headworld or book. Watch cool speedpaints. Follow aesthetic blogs. Read people whose work you enjoy.
Ask people for advice and then watch them type out an excessively long reply because she gets super excited when people look to her for guidance because that’s literally never happened before ;)
Wow. That was long. Hope that helps! Feel free to ask more specific stuff, or just stuff in general!

The curious cases at Everton, Chelsea & Man City: When patience isn't a virtue
Despite a good deal of early encouragement the experiment in importing Sarri-ball to the Premier League is now a big dead duck bobbing in the water.
Over a period of many months the players have tried to master their new coach’s highly exacting demands and for reasons that warrant an essay in itself they have substantially failed to do so.
Maurizio Sarri himself has publicly admitted on several occasions that he is struggling to motivate his squad into replicating the ferocious and exhilarating football we all marvelled at in Naples.
To expect everything to click into shape anytime soon is to expect a miracle and frankly we are at the point where either the system goes or at least five or six very expensive players are allowed to leave for a fraction of their true value so that the club can recruit personnel who might – might – better execute it. At any club we know which of the two is sacrificed in this situation. At Chelsea we really know.
There is a third option of course. Sarri could compromise on his beliefs. But Sarri will absolutely and unquestionably not compromise on his beliefs. All of this leaves us with a big dead duck bobbing in the water.
So why is it then that pundits and journalists alike are queuing up at present to insist that what is needed in west London is time and patience? Give Sarri time, they state. Chelsea can’t keep chopping and changing managers.
It is a vacuous proposition with very little substance to back it up beside a much-parroted comparison to Pep Guardiola’s first season at Manchester City; an analogy that was lazy to begin with and is positively comatose now.
Granted the current title holders initially struggled to adapt to a new and complicated style of play but crucially there the players collectively bought into the ethos from the get-go. And at this stage of their baptising campaign they had ironed out the kinks, on route to losing only once more – ironically away to Chelsea, where the visitors were the better side throughout – until the season’s end.
Can anybody imagine Sarri’s Chelsea doing likewise, while blasting fives past multiple opponents as City did in the latter half of 2016/17? Seriously, does any single person reading this now consider a transformation of Chelsea’s fortunes to be even a remotely realistic scenario?
Heading north to Goodison Park leads us to another manager who is walking the green mile. It is not working out for Marco Silva at Everton and it’s not going to work out. I know it. You know it. We all know it. The fans are dispirited and disillusioned. The football is stolid and predictable.
In the past year the 41-year-old has had his reputation widely reassessed and most of us now acknowledge that perhaps we were premature in elevating him as an elite coach. All that will play out from this point until Silva is inevitably sacked is the gradual atrophy of the Toffees’ season.
What will be the fate of Chelsea’s Kepa after his Carabao Cup antics? Ingood Nick wades into the debate below…
You wouldn’t know any of this though by switching on the telly, reading a paper, or trawling half of the internet.
Give him time, say the pundits. Patience is needed, insist people on Twitter in response to anything that could be deemed critical of his ways. Everton can’t keep chopping and changing managers, is the hoary old trope. Some stability is needed.
It could be argued that stability for stability’s sake is akin to lying on a very uncomfortable bed each and every night because you’ve gone through a few beds of late. It could be argued that only stability with the right person makes sense, and if that person doesn’t even have a fighting chance of taking a club forward, then staying with them is completely and utterly counter-productive.
It could be reasoned too that sometimes in football – and I appreciate how highly contentious this suggestion is – the stars do not align and on occasion it is better for both club and manger to go their separate ways. And it really doesn’t matter if that happens six months in or six years in. Indeed it’s probably beneficial to all concerned if it’s the former.
Sadly, that perfectly logical truth now resides on the margins of discourse. Because what takes centre stage are two warring factions, one being the knee-jerkers who call for a manager’s head after a singular defeat and judge a new signing a flop a mere fortnight in. They’re loud. They’re quick to fury and quicker to condemn. They’ve reduced social media to a coliseum of juvenile boos, chorused for the slightest of slights.
And on the other side you have those who really, really don’t want to be mistaken for that lot. That’s why you have pundits espousing status quo at the Bridge. That’s why you have journalists looking down their noses at rightfully disgruntled Evertonians. By trying to distance themselves from the hysteria around them they seek out the higher ground believing that is where sense is occupied.
Plus, let’s be honest, they probably think too that it makes them sound really intelligent in comparison to the snap calls for change.
This week I wrote for another publication on Riyad Mahrez and queried aloud why it was proving so difficult for Manchester City’s record signing to establish himself as a starter. After all, it couldn’t be about adapting to English football because the Algerian has excelled in the Premier League for several years now. Surely then he is experiencing problems integrating himself into Pep Guardiola’s intricate system.
Unlike Sarri or Silva further up this piece at no juncture did I suggest there was a best-by date on the situation. I did however point out that Mahrez has played over a thousand minutes in a sky blue shirt and still hopelessly looks like an individual within a team structure: that after countless training sessions with the world’s best coach he remains a square peg in a round hole. In short, I was saying that enough time has passed to adamantly state there is an issue that warranted discussion.
Give him time, came the angry response. He’s only been here half a season.
The knee-jerkers have a lot to answer for. A sensible time to assess and act upon decisions made has now become forever lost. It is either an instant judgement call or extreme caution due to a fear of being regarded by a stranger as an idiot. Regrettably, in the case of Sarri, Silva, Mahrez and countless other coaches and players, the answer usually lies somewhere in between.
