Ok we've had a summer with a range of gay male romances, created oddly enough by people who are not gay men.
WHEN is Hot Lesbian Summer or Ineffable Wives Summer or even just Sweet and Largely Chaste Lesbian Summer? It's like we got But I'm a Cheerleader and Hollywood decided that was enough. (Meanwhile Jamie Babbitt is RIGHT HERE working on OMITB)
Can we PLEASE get a You Should See Me in a Crown movie? Or a series of Alexandria Bellefleur's Seattle books? Or let's go historical with Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics?
Where are the sapphic adaptations??

The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite

Today's sapphic book of the day is The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite!
Summary: "As Lucy Muchelney watches her ex-lover’s sham of a wedding, she wishes herself anywhere else. It isn’t until she finds a letter from the Countess of Moth, looking for someone to translate a groundbreaking French astronomy text, that she knows where to go. Showing up at the Countess’ London home, she hoped to find a challenge, not a woman who takes her breath away.
Catherine St Day looks forward to a quiet widowhood once her late husband’s scientific legacy is fulfilled. She expected to hand off the translation and wash her hands of the project—instead, she is intrigued by the young woman who turns up at her door, begging to be allowed to do the work, and she agrees to let Lucy stay. But as Catherine finds herself longing for Lucy, everything she believes about herself and her life is tested.
While Lucy spends her days interpreting the complicated French text, she spends her nights falling in love with the alluring Catherine. But sabotage and old wounds threaten to sever the threads that bind them. Can Lucy and Catherine find the strength to stay together or are they doomed to be star-crossed lovers?"

Adult historical romance between a vampire and his secretary
Set in mid-1700s England
Exceedingly slow-burn romance focused on the growing connection between the two protagonists
A Lot of pining
Explorations of consent and power (employer/employee, vampire/human)
Mostly a character-focused romance, but also has some interesting supernatural lore interspersed throughout
Gay main character with ADHD & autistic, gay main character
Deals with period-typical homophobia and internalized homophobia but has a happy ending

if there's 1 thing everyone should know about lesbian romance novels is that the more "sexy" the cover is (like, the level of bodice ripper vibes it gives off) the more likely it is to have minimal smut and focus more on the rights of women, queer liberation movements, being a single parent in a patriarchal society, unionizing, etc. meanwhile the blandest most canva software based book covers are the ones where you'll open to the first page and be hit by a sex scene. and THEN you get to read marxist theory, queer liberation movements, etc -

“What was her name?”
“Priscilla.” There was no mistaking it. Only love could make the name drip from Miss Muchelney’s mouth in those honeyed tones.
Even a love in mourning still had sparks in it.

The Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows is book two of the Feminine Pursuits Series by Olivia Waite. I absolutely devoured this one, just like the characters deliciously devoured one another.
7.5/10
