Valentia Side Material and Translations: Resource Masterpost

This post is to organize links to side material for Gaiden/Shadows of Valentia, much of which Sacred Echoes has drawn upon for additional story and characterization details. In the case of translated material, I will link to the main translator's site; if you worked on these translations and have a Tumblr handle you'd like to be credited under as well, please message me and I'll update the post.

Drama CD - "Foreign Skies, Daybreak Forest"

Taking place in Act 4 soon after the Deliverance crosses the Rigel border, this drama CD features Alm, Faye, Silque, Tobin, Kliff, Lukas, Forsyth, and Python, as well as three Rigelian characters not used elsewhere. Information here is considered a primary source, and this is the only quasi-official source of information about Alm's mother.

While Clive and Mathilda return to Zofia to quell dissent among the nobility in the wake of Desaix's defeat, the Deliverance are attacked by Rigelian child soldiers armed with cursed weapons. Alm's compassion and sense of justice lead him to try and reach out to these children rather than attack them with military force, and he discovers that they are orphans marginalized by brutal Rigelian customs and being used as pawns by the Duma Faithful. Alm reckons with the reality that Rigelians are not his enemies, but the systemic oppression they face from the empire and death-cult that rules over them, and through his compassion he meets some kindred spirits. Contains some really great characterizations of the Lukas/Python/Forsyth trio as well.

Text translation was done by @garmmy on their translations blog. A subtitled video playlist was created using garmmy's translations with the original audio by @fudgenomnomnom.

Valentia Comic Anthology

Includes over 100 4koma (4-panel, half-page) comics, as well as longer-form one-shots of 8 or more pages. Material here is more akin to fan comics and is thus considered a secondary source.

The 4koma have all been translated and hosted by Kantopia on their blog.

The one-shots are not all in the same place, and not all have been translated yet. Four have been done by @mystletainn a few years ago, while @hypergammaspaces is picking up the remaining chapters:

As Comrades, by Itagaki Hako - TL: mystletainn. Faye resolves to do whatever she can to help carry Alm's burdens, and brings the Ram boys along. Alm proves he loves his friends as much as they love him.

Sweet Delivery, by Watarizora Tsubamemaru - TL: mystletainn. Atlas fails to guard Mae and Leon's fresh-baked cookies, so he, Saber, and Jesse agree to gather the ingredients to replace them.

Fieldwork in Zofia, by Shiroishi Kotoni - TL: mystletainn. Taking place shortly before Act 3, Kliff ventures out to survey the lands north of Zofia Castle and encounters a certain masked knight who has more in common with him than either of them expect.

Only My Big Brother, by Kirai Yuu - TL: mystletainn. Tired of being ignored by Valbar, Leon ropes Kamui into helping him find the perfect boyfriend.

Know Your Enemy and Know Yourself, by Temo Uchida - TL: hypergammaspaces. Lukas and Forsyth try to encourage Kliff to take his combat duties seriously.

Future Wife, by Reku Hayase - TL: hypergammaspaces. Mathilda navigates her thoughts about her future with Clive as she reconciles Clair's expectations of her. Lukas is there too.

Let's Go To Ram Village, by Kazuomi Mochizuki - TL: hypergammaspaces. Translation is in-progress. Clair, having just met the Deliverance, asks to see what life in Ram Village is like, and Alm agrees to show her. Faye isn't too happy about this, but finds common ground with Clair by the end.

There are at least three more chapters yet untranslated which will be linked here as they are completed.

Rise of the Deliverance DLC

This was a set of four story maps set in the year-and-a-half or so before the events of Act 1. Focused around Clive, Fernand, Mathilda, Clair, Lukas, Forsyth, and Python, this added supports and memory prisms between these characters as well as story map dialogue. Scripts, memory prisms, and additional support transcriptions were found on a Serenes Forest forum post by user godzillahomer.

Gaiden manga

One-volume manga by Masaki Sano and Kyo Watanabe, published by Asuka Comics DX. Partial scans have been found on the Fire Emblem (Fandom) Wiki, but no complete scans or translations have been found as of this post. This is the one where Desaix stabs Kliff to death (hence Kliff joking about "maybe we can all get impaled on the same lance" in SoV). Many characters are entirely absent, while both Deen and Sonya appear in Celica's party.

Gaiden novelization

A light novel with a few illustrations throughout. Based heavily on the author's personal playthrough, Silque thus features prominently as she basically hard-carried Alm's party. Neither English FE wiki has a page about this adaptation. I have an acquaintance who owns it but I'm not aware of any full scans/translations available as of this post. This is the one where Kliff and Silque are half-siblings with the same father.

What is Addiction?

Addiction is when a person continually takes a substance - or engages in a behavior - with a destructive impact on their health and life.

In Ancient Rome, when a person couldn’t repay a debtor they were forced to become their slave, or ‘addictus.’ This is the origin of being “a slave to your addictions.”

Addictions take many forms; some of them may surprise you. Do you struggle with any of these?

Addicts crave the behavior or substance, even when they know it causes them physical harm, mental harm, and/or harm to their relationships. Addiction can lead to criminal behavior, poverty, homelessness, and death.

Addiction is not defined by how much a person engages in the behavior but by the impact it has on their life. A workaholic may be very successful in the office, but at home their relationships are failing and their anxiety is increasing.

What Causes Addiction?

People become addicts through many different paths, but seeking pleasure (or avoiding pain) is the ultimate driver.

Whether a person is addicted to heroin or video games, their goal is to alter their mental state and reduce subconscious-stress.

Some people believe that taking drugs leads to addiction - but this is only part of the picture. Not everyone who takes narcotics becomes addicted to them. Therefore, there must be another factor involved - the human factor.

Research involving mice found they became easily addicted to cocaine when kept in isolation. But, when the environment was enriched with social activities, interesting food, places to explore, toys to play with and new mice to meet… they stopped taking cocaine! Just like mice, humans get depressed, miserable and bored when trapped in an unfulfilling life.

Unresolved Emotions

Addiction often stems from trauma. Adverse experiences during childhood (e.g. divorce, emotional neglect, poverty) predispose us to addiction later in life. Addiction is a response to painful or traumatic events, not simply a poor choice that people make.

Demonizing addicts is counterproductive; they need to be treated with care and compassion to maximize their chances of recovery. Brain scans on people with a range of addictions reveal the same neural circuits are involved, and they all share feelings of shame and low self-value.

People develop addictions to try and cover up issues and uncomfortable emotions:

To cope with stress and life events.

To escape the pain of past trauma.

To create connections with others.

To achieve a sense of control in life.

To avoid facing feelings of inadequacy.

To hush internal voices of self-loathing.

Overcoming Addiction

There’s no one size-fits-all solution for all addicts, but here are some general tips:

1. Find the Right Help

Addicts using opiates and narcotics need help. Addiction experts can provide the highly specialized support needed for this kind of recovery. Addicts can also be aided with behavioral re-training and dedicated recovery groups.

2. Increase Self-Value

All addicts can benefit from increasing their self-worth. Any activity that improves physical or mental health enhances esteem. Getting a massage, eating vitalizing alkaline foods, and going for walks in nature are acts of self-care that enhance how we feel about ourselves.

3. Be Ready to Give Up

The addicted person must be ready and willing to give up their addiction; if they are forced to give it up they are likely to relapse.

Lore: Was originally an overweight arcade employee and maintenance man named Bil Soupy. Often teased and dismissed for his physique and fascination with electronics, Bil spent his life as an outcast and became more than a little misanthropic. His few sources of joy were the upkeep and programming of the machines at the arcade where he worked. Over time, the cabinets consumed his life; not only did he adore them, but he also took note of the attention they received from the customers at the arcade which he saw as a kind of affection. Eventually ‘unraveling’, Bil somehow transplanted himself into a cabinet he’d been working on and left it behind for his boss to put into the arcade. The media eventually reported him missing and presumed dead, but as we know, he was doing perfectly well inside the box. Assorted info under the cut

The ‘Blips You!’ game is almost never the same twice, but always extremely engaging, to the point of being addictive. Both infuriating and hypnotic, it has a tendency to drive people with certain dispositions to madness.

It is somehow possible to cheat, but nobody has ever been able to ‘win’ the game.

Speaking of, although he’s unwinnable, Blips likes to reward worthy opponents for their hard work with little ‘prizes’ like bonus stages, cutscenes and unique music.

While his mechanics are pretty much those of a classic 80’s cabinet, Blips’ processor being a human brain allows him a lot more leeway when it comes to the game’s actual content. For example, he can display a tonne of colours and sprites at the same time without flickering, as well as produce more fluid animation, complicated gameplay and long running storylines. He can even ‘save’ the games of particular players if he wants, and pick back up with them when they visit the arcade again.

Blips aspirates coins to improve his conductivity.

Despite rarely moving, the near constant flow of electricity prevents his muscles from atrophying. He’s unnervingly strong, though not at all speedy.

His metabolism is extremely slow so he only really gets ‘hungry’ when he’s been injured in some way and requires more biomass to heal himself. Anything he can’t ‘digest’ (clothes and plastic, usually) he coughs up in a sort of owl-pellet-like clump.

Smells fucking awful but nobody really seems to notice.

Bil’s body initially retained a human shape inside the cabinet, but over time it deformed and mutated into the disturbing flesh blob he is today. He doesn’t particularly care though; as far as he’s concerned, his looks haven’t changed much, and it’s not like they matter anymore anyway.

(My initial concept for him was an actual man who was half living in and half fused to his arcade cabinet; he had the appearance of a partially flayed corpse with wires mimicking muscles under tattered skin. This was, however, a little too gruesome (and beyond my artistic abilities) so I turned to the secondary concept of the arcade machine being completely full of flesh and organs like a living creature. With a little extra inspiration from Migi (of Parasyte fame) I ended up with the flabby goofball you see here)

While usually surprisingly level-headed, Blips can go a little crazy when his game is involved. He also tends to be rather petty and jealous when it comes to attention from the arcade-goers. Hand-held devices drive him nuts.

It sort of goes without saying, but his moral compass has become a little warped since becoming a flesh eating video game hybrid. Even so, his main interests are simply having fun and being adored.

Though initially not particularly interested in romance, he eventually meets and falls head over heels (er, screen over coin drawer?) for a certain Sexy DVD who ends up at his arcade by chance.

I think a story’s themes sometimes get downplayed in theorycrafting. And that can occasionally lead to theories that clash with the source material, whether the theory supporters realize it or not.

For a very ridiculous example that few people probably take seriously, let’s begin with the Coma Theory from the Pokemon anime. The theory is an old one, and basically states that Ash is a boy from our world, who after being electrocuted fell into a coma where he dreamed the entirety of his Pokemon adventure. The presence of real-world animals from our world appearing in early seasons, but slowly being phased out for a world inhabited solely by Pokemon, is attributed to the deterioration of his brain, as is the fact he never appears to age.

I don’t believe anyone takes this theory completely seriously or claims it to be definitive canon, though some may appreciate its creepypasta style. For one, it reduces a story to an ‘all just a dream’ narrative, which is hard to do well and easy to make feel cheap and cliched. But I’ll also point out that it’s very at-odds with the themes of the Pokemon anime. Pokemon has always had strong themes of friendship, empathy, and compassion from episode one, and claiming that all the friends who Ash meets on his journey are mere figments of his imagination feels like the exact opposite to that. As such, even though the world of Pokemon is no stranger to dark subjects such as child death, this specific theory doesn’t feel like it belongs.

For a slightly more recent, but still not especially popular, theory, there is the theory that Gaster is responsible for the Determination experiments, amalgamates, and Flowey. While there is some theory Gaster may have dabbled in dt himself a little (the two strongest pieces of evidence being the DT Extractor’s design and the mention of vague ‘blueprints’, as well as some people noticing that Mystery Man looks melted.), in-game evidence in this video by Dorked proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Alphys was the one responsible for the Amalgamates and Flowey. Even before I saw this video, though, I thought the theory was full of crap. Why?

Well, because it would render Alphys’ arc in the game entirely moot. Her arc was about the lies she had told covering up her own mistakes, and gaining the courage to tell the truth and fix things for the amalgamates. If it were abruptly revealed that, whoopsy doopsy, it wasn’t her mistake and had instead been the mistake of some mysterious figure who everyone just so happened to forget, conveniently lifting responsibility for the initial mistakes from her shoulders and removing the origin of the guilt that prompted her lies... it would abruptly become a much, much, much weaker arc. For both Alphys and Gaster. Alphys loses much of the power behind her eventually coming forwards, while Gaster’s arc, presently left largely in the background, is dragged into the forefront to be blasted with a glaring spotlight, highlighting the lack of closure and unsatisfaction. What lessons does Gaster learn? ‘Maybe if you blow yourself into non-existence, someone else will come along, be tortured by your mistakes to the point of suicidal depression, and then eventually fix your fuck-ups’?

This isn’t exactly a widely-popular theory, though, so let’s go for a more recent and more popular one. Such as, Chara being ‘pure evil’ and responsible for the No Mercy route. A major theme in Undertale is the effects of your choices on others, how any has the choice to be a good or bad person, and how all the monsters you encounter have much deeper and more complex lives than you initially anticipate. Chara is almost certainly not a saint, but to declare that they’re pure evil with no depth, no motivation, no trauma, and no chance of redemption, who also allows the player a convenient escape from blame, is to refute basically every moral that Undertale tries to convey. Chara’s depth and complexity may not be as explicit as, say, Flowey/Asriel. But by paying attention to themes and parallels, (such as how MK’s admitting that Undyne isn’t the best person, followed by them immediately shifting idolization to Papyrus, is paralleled by Asriel, Chara, and Frisk, or Asgore remarking that Frisk reminds him of Chara only in a True Pacifist run but not mentioning humans or Chara at all in No Mercy.), one can assume that Chara was, at the very least, neither pure evil nor exclusively motivated by power when they began their plan.

I do admit, sometimes a theme can be introduced early on, only for the story to viciously tear it apart and show how it’s a deeply flawed belief. Undertale initially introduces ‘kill or be killed’, only to show two different ways that it’s a very flawed belief: in No Mercy, it shows that this belief can only end in self-destruction, while in True Pacifist the saying’s most ardent supporter is forced to acknowledge it was a flawed ideology fueled by his trauma and hurt. But the point remains.

Forever & Always

January 2016

Kenny and a French streamer named Jade met at a gaming convention in New York, where Jade was competing in a video game tournament. She was also a professional gamer and had been practicing for months in order to be at her best.

As Kenny walked around the convention floor, he couldn't help but notice Jade. He watched as she competed in the tournament, impressed by her skill and determination. Kenny had already heard of Jade before the gaming convention. She was well-known in the gaming world for her skill and dedication. So when he saw her competing in a tournament at the convention, he couldn't resist introducing himself.

As he walked up to her, he noticed her bright blue eyes and petite, athletic figure. She was a brunette with a warm smile and a passion for gaming that was clear to see. And Jade was immediately struck by Kenny's tall, muscular build and his bright blue eyes.

After her tournament, Jade was signing autographs for her fans. Kenny gathered the courage to walk over and introduce himself.

"Hi, I'm Kenny," he said, extending his hand.

"Hi, I'm Jade," she replied, shaking his hand. "It's nice to meet you."

"It's nice to meet you too," Kenny replied, smiling.

As they talked, they quickly realized that they had a lot in common. They both loved gaming and were passionate about their careers.

"I'm a professional gamer and a streamer on Twitch. I compete in tournaments all over the world. I'm originally from France … I mean; I think you can tell by the accent." She laughed.

Kenny was impressed by Jade's career. "That's so cool. I've heard of you before. You're really talented."

Jade blushed again. "Thank you, Kenny. That's very kind of you to say. And you, what do you do in your life?”

"I'm a professional wrestler," Kenny said. "I wrestle all over the world, especially in Japan but I'm originally from Canada."

"Wow, that sounds amazing. I used to watch WWE when I was younger but I stopped … like, 10 years ago." Jade replied.

“Oh, really? Who was your favorite wrestler?" Kenny asked.

"That's a tough question," Jade said, thinking for a moment. "I was a big fan of Jeff Hardy. He was such a unique and talented wrestler, and I loved the way the way he took risks in the ring. What about you?"

"My favorite wrestler is probably Shawn Michaels. I've always admired his dedication and commitment to the sport, and the way he's able to bring a level of drama and intensity to every match." He answered, with a big smile on his face.

Kenny couldn't resist asking Jade out on a date. He gathered the courage to ask, and to his delight, she said yes. From that moment on, they knew that they had something special. They spent the rest of the convention talking and laughing, and they knew that they had found something special in each other. They exchanged numbers and made plans to see each other again as soon as possible. They both left the convention feeling excited and hopeful about their future together. Kenny had never felt a connection like the one he had with Jade. From the moment they met at the gaming convention in New York, he knew there was something special about her.

As they spent more time together, Kenny was struck by Jade's intelligence; he loved how she always had a quick wit and a clever answer, and how she could hold her own in any conversation. He found her intelligence and curiosity about the world endlessly fascinating.

Kenny came to love Jade's sense of humor even more. She had a great ability to see the funny side of things and could always make him laugh, no matter how bad the day had been.

He loved her dedication to her craft. She was a professional gamer and took her career very seriously, how passionate she was about gaming and how she always strove to be the best that she could be but she also had a fun-loving side that he found irresistible.

Kenny was also impressed by Jade's kindness and compassion. She was always there for her friends and loved ones, and she had a way of making everyone around her feel special.

And of course, he loved her beauty. Kenny always thought Jade was incredibly attractive. He loved her bright blue eyes and her bright smile, which always seemed to light up a room. In addition to her physical attractiveness, Kenny also loved the way Jade carried herself. She was confident and poised, and she always seemed to radiate an inner strength and beauty. He admired her grace and elegance, and he found her incredibly alluring.

Kenny always loved the fact that Jade was French. He found the French culture and language to be very romantic and elegant, and he enjoyed learning more about it. He enjoyed trying new French foods and learning more about the country's history and customs.

In addition to being fascinated by French culture, Kenny also loved the way Jade spoke French. In addition to finding her accent attractive, Kenny also enjoyed listening to Jade speak English with her accent because it reminded him of their cultural differences and how they had come together as a couple. He found it to be a beautiful representation of their relationship and the way they had been able to bridge the gap between their two cultures.

Kenny always found Jade's French accent to be captivating. He found her accent to be very attractive and he loved listening to her speak the language. He enjoyed the way her words rolled off her tongue and the way her accent added a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ to her voice. In addition to finding her accent attractive, Kenny also loved the way Jade spoke French in general.

He also enjoyed trying to speak French himself and made an effort to learn more about the language. He enjoyed talking with her in French and tried to improve his own skills.

As they continued to date and spend time together, Kenny realized he was falling in love with Jade. He couldn't imagine his life without her and knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her by his side. He decided to tell her how he felt.

One evening, Kenny and Jade were sitting on the couch, cuddled up together as they watched their favorite movie. As the credits rolled, Kenny turned to Jade and took a deep breath.

"Jade, I have something I need to tell you," he said, his heart beating in his chest. "I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and I just can't hold it in anymore. I'm in love with you, Jade. You're the most amazing person I've ever met and I can't imagine my life without you. You make me so happy and I feel so lucky to have you in my life."

Jade looked at Kenny with tears in her eyes, her heart overflowing with love and emotion. "I love you too, Kenny," she said, taking his hand in hers.

Kenny wrapped his arms around Jade and held her close, feeling grateful and blessed to have found such an incredible person. "I promise to always love you, Jade," he said. "I'll do everything in my power to make you happy and to be the best partner I can be. You mean the world to me."

Jade smiled up at Kenny, "I know you will, Kenny," she said. "And I'll always be here for you, no matter what life throws our way.” And with that, they sat there together, wrapped in each other's arms, knowing that they had found something truly special.

Kenny was deeply in love with Jade. He was fascinated by her bubbly personality and intelligence. He admired her passion for video games and was always impressed by her determination to succeed.

When they were together, Kenny felt completely at ease and happy. He enjoyed spending time with Jade and treasured every moment with her. He loved showing her how much she meant to him and took care of her in the most affectionate way possible.

Even when they were separated for weeks or months due to their busy schedules, Kenny couldn't forget about Jade. He often thought of her and dreamed of moments when they could be reunited again. When they finally got back together, Kenny was more in love than ever and determined to spend the rest of his life with Jade.

Septembre 2018

Kenny and Jade were sitting in front of their computers, talking via video call. Kenny was in Japan, preparing for a wrestling match and Jade was in France, participating in the ZEvent 2018 charity event.

"Hey, how's Japan?" Jade asked, smiling at Kenny on the screen.

"It's going well," Kenny said. "I'm just trying to focus on the match. It's a big one." Kenny replied, smiling back at her. "I miss you, though. I wish you were here with me."

"I miss you too," Jade said, feeling a pang of sadness at the thought of being apart from Kenny. "I can't wait to see you again. "

"But I can't stop thinking about you." Whispered Kenny

"Aww, that's so sweet," Jade said, feeling her heart flutter at Kenny's words.

"I wish I could be there with you, doll …. Tell me, how's the charity event going?"

"It's going great," Jade replied. "We've already raised a lot of money for a good cause. But I can't wait to see you again.”

"I'm so proud of you for being part of the ZEvent," Kenny said. "It's such a great cause and I know you're making a difference. You're always doing something to help others, and I love that about you."

Jade blushed at the compliment. "Thank you, Kenny. You always know how to make me feel special. You're such a kind and caring person, and I love that about you too."

"I just want to make you happy," Kenny said, looking into Jade's eyes through the screen. "You mean the world to me. I wish I could just teleport to France right now and hold you in my arms."

"I wish that too," Jade said, feeling her heart skip a beat at the thought of being with Kenny.

"I can't wait to see you again and finally be able to hug you in person," Kenny said, feeling a longing in his chest as he thought about being with Jade. "Video calls are great, but they can't replace the real thing."

"I know, it's hard being apart from each other," Jade said, feeling the same longing. "But at least we have each other's love to keep us going. And we'll be together soon enough."

"I can't wait," Kenny said, smiling at Jade. "I miss your smell, your touch, your voice, everything about you. I can’t wait."

"I miss that too," Jade said, feeling the same longing. "But we'll be together soon enough.

When will you be back in France?"

"I'll be back in a few days," Kenny said. "I can't wait to see you and spend some time together. I miss you so much. Forever and Always, my love"

"Always and Forever, Ken," Jade said, feeling a warmth in her chest as she looked at Kenny's face on the screen. "We'll make up for lost time when you're back."

As they said goodbye and ended the call, both Kenny and Jade couldn't wait to see each other again and finally be able to be together in person.

Decembre 2018,

As the days went by and Kenny's relationship with Jade became more and more complicated, he couldn't help but feel a sense of doubt and uncertainty. It had been four months since they had last seen each other in person, and they were struggling to find even a few moments to talk on video call.

But now, as he sat and watched Jade's streams from the other side of the world, Kenny couldn't help but feel a sense of distance and disconnection between them. He missed Jade deeply and wished more than anything that they could be together again, but he wasn't sure if that was still possible.

He loved Jade deeply and wanted more than anything to be with her, but he wasn't sure if their relationship was strong enough to survive the distance and the challenges they were facing, or if it was doomed to fail.

He couldn't help but feel a sense of pain and suffering deep inside. The thought of a break-up was almost too much to bear, and he couldn't imagine his life without Jade by his side.

For Kenny, it had always been clear that Jade was his soulmate. From the moment they met at the gaming convention, he had felt an instant connection with her, and he knew that she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

Despite the deep love that Kenny and Jade had for each other, their relationship had become increasingly distant over time … he couldn't help but wonder if it was time to let it go.

"But it doesn't make this any easier. It feels like my heart is breaking into a million pieces."

"I feel the same way," said Kenny, squeezing her hand. "But we have to be strong and do what's best for us. Maybe we can get back together later, once we've achieved our dreams." Jade nodded, tears still rolling down her cheeks.

"I don't want to lose you, Kenny. You're the most important person in my life."

"I believe in us too, doll," said Kenny, determination filling his voice. "We've been through so much together and we can make it through this too. We'll find a way to make it work, even if it means being apart for a little while." He said, with a small smile forming on his lips.

"You're right. We can do this. And when we finally get back together, it'll be that much more special and meaningful." said Jade, wiping away her tears.

"I can't wait for that day to come," said Kenny, leaning in to hug Jade. "I love you, Kenny. Always and Forever."

"I love you too, Jade," said Kenny, hugging Jade tightly. "Forever and Always."

As they hugged each other, both Kenny and Jade couldn't help but feel a deep sense of sadness and loss. Despite their love for each other, they knew that their relationship was facing some serious challenges and that they needed to take a break to focus on their individual goals.

It was a difficult and emotional conversation, but they both knew that it was the most sensible decision to make. They hugged each other tightly and cried together, knowing that their life together was about to change forever.

As they said their final goodbyes and went their separate ways, Kenny and Jade couldn't help but wonder what the future held for them. They both hoped that one day they would be able to find their way back to each other.

But at the same time, Kenny also couldn't help but think about all the problems and challenges they had faced as a couple. They had both been so busy with their careers and commitments, and it had been hard for them to find time to be together.

Kenny knew that he had made mistakes in their relationship, and he wished he could go back and do things differently. One of the things that weighed heavily on his mind was the fact that he had not made enough of an effort to see Jade more often. He had been so caught up in his own work and commitments that he had not prioritized their relationship as much as he should have.

Kenny couldn't stop thinking about all the good times they had shared together, from their first meeting at the gaming convention to their sweet moments of affection and tenderness. He missed Jade's smile, her laugh, and the way she always knew how to make him feel special.

But at the same time, watching Jade's stream also made Kenny feel a sense of sadness and longing. He missed being able to be with her and share those moments together, and he wished more than anything that they could be together again.

Despite the pain of their separation, Kenny couldn't help but be drawn to Jade and her stream. Even though they were apart, Kenny knew that he would always love Jade and that she would always hold a special place in his heart. He hoped that one day they would be able to find their way back to each other, and that they could rebuild their relationship and create new memories together.

As Kenny watched Jade's stream of the ZEvent 2019 charity event, tears streaming down his face as he watched Jade on the screen. He couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions.

On the one hand, he couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness and longing as he watched her from afar. He had always been so proud of her, and he knew that she was an incredible gamer. But now, as he sat alone in his hotel room in Japan, he couldn't help but feel a sense of longing for her. The last time the ZEvent had taken place; Kenny and Jade were still a couple.

On the other hand, he was so proud of her for all that she had accomplished, and he knew that she was making a difference in the world. He knew that Jade was an amazing person with a big heart, and he was so proud of her for being a part of such a wonderful event and helping to raise money for a good cause.

It had been nine months since they had taken a break in their relationship, and he missed her more than words could describe. He wished that he could be there with her, supporting her in person.

Kenny felt a sense of pride as Jade and her friends broke the Twitch record at the Zevent 2019 by collecting 3,510,682 € over three days of non-stop streams for a charitable organization. enny watched Jade's stream with pride and was amazed at the amount of money they were able to raise for a good cause.

He knew that Jade was passionate about using her platform to make a difference in the world. Kenny couldn't help but feel a deep love and admiration for Jade as he watched her work tirelessly to make a positive impact.

So, he sent her a message telling her how proud he was of her.

Kenny took a deep breath and gathered all his courage as he typed out a message to Jade. He knew that reaching out to her might be a risk, but he couldn't bear the thought of not telling her how he felt.

He wrote:

"Hey, just wanted to let you know how proud I am of you for the Zevent 2019. Watching your stream at the Zevent 2019 and seeing the amazing work you and the other streamers did for charity was truly inspiring. The amount of money you raised is mind-blowing, and it's all thanks to your hard work and dedication. You're such an amazing person. I know haven’t talked since our break-up. But seeing you out there, doing something so selfless and making such a positive impact on the world, it reminds me of why I fell in love with you in the first place. You're such an inspiration, Jade. I hope you know that. And I hope you know how much you still mean to me. You're amazing! I can't wait to see what you accomplish next. Forever and Always."

So he took a deep breath and typed out his message, pouring all of his love and admiration into his words. It was a difficult message to send, but Kenny knew that it was something he had to do. As he hit send, Kenny couldn't help but feel a mix of nervousness and hope. He didn't know how Jade would react to his message. But in the end, it was worth it. He wanted Jade to know how much she meant to him, and how proud he was of all that she had accomplished. Kenny hoped that his message would bring them a step closer to healing their relationship and finding their way back to each other.

Have you ever wondered who Killian is supposed to be? Have you ever seen me mention "my world" and was confused what I meant? I'm probably overestimating how interesting I am but in any case, here is your answer. My world takes place in a fantasy setting that exists only in my head, a setting of which is the backdrop for a political war story and legend inspired by various Biblical gospels and parables, my personal politics, my Irish ancestry and many of my favorite fantasy JRPGs

Killian is the complicated hero, as well as the center of an ancient prophecy that exists within this world's mythos, a role he eventually becomes aware of. joining him on the journey he embarks on within the legend are several other companions he meets along the way, coming from a variety of backgrounds and moral compasses, all of whom either quickly or gradually becoming endeared to the cause Killian goes on to become the face of

This isn't a story I'm writing since I'm not a writer, I'm just a spectator who escapes here every now and then. I call Killian an original character, but him and his friends are more like imaginary friends to me. I've seen them change and grow so much and experience so many things, painful things, over the years. I think maybe i could try to translate Killian's story to a manuscript of some sort but that's a ways away and ideally I see it as a sort of video game akin to the Tales of and Final Fantasy series

Although my world and Killian are deeply personal to me and I sometimes keep the finer details of them close to my heart I'm really excited to finally share some of this with you all. it's super self indulgent but it was a lot of fun to put together. Long ago, on the land of Airde, our god Diathair made way for the existence of the first man & woman. The man, he blessed with the ears to hear & eyes to see the planet's ancient angels— enlightened spirits that served as the guardians for the planet's natural energy and magical creatures; the woman, he blessed with the gift to become an awe-inspiring dragon capable of moving mountains. The planet would thrive under the protection and guidance of these powerful forces, until the man & women fell in love and passed on their knowledge to create more humans like them.

Although the humans would exist in harmony alongside the original life forms of the planet for some time, it wouldn't be long until some would attempt to exploit them, many resorting to violence in order to gain advantage over one another. Led by and aided by a traitorous angel, the selfishness and cruelty of these humans descended the planet into chaos, and the first man & woman would be helpless to stop it. That is, until they finally banished the fallen angel and his legion to eternal darkness and contained him, serving as a seal for his and humanity's sin forever and ever, the two of them destined to an endless slumber. At last, peace was restored to the land.

But while Airde enjoyed such harmony for centuries thereafter, war brewed elsewhere amongst the other humans who would come to exist. A brutal conflict over resources on other lands broke out between a mighty empire and powerful republic. The republic ultimately emerged victorious, and their industrial & technological advancements that were rewards to them as a result of such triumph allowed them to make landfall on Airde within a few years. Over time the republic would be able to fold many Airdein territories into its jurisdiction, typically in exchange for the aforementioned advancements they reaped in their wartime victory as well as trade deals, at the cost of a slow whittling away of original Airdein customs and lore. However, when imperial forces finally made their way to the continent as well, another war between the two powers would break out, this one over shared intentions for this once sacred land. The Airdein people, naturally, would suffer the most in this senseless bloodshed. Once more they were ensnared in the darkest urges of man, and it seemed their home would never know peace again.

But then... hope. In a valley under the mountain and by the old river, hope would arrive in the form of a young baby boy found near a village by a man named Reuben. Reuben would call this boy Killian, and raise him as his own. In the company of his best friend Eabha, daughter of refugees who relocated to his home village when he was very young, Killian grew up to become a fine young man with natural charisma and genius intellect. He was sincere, friendly, and maybe a bit on the flirtatious and stubborn side. And very loved by all, especially by his father and best friend.

But deep down he longed for adventure and and chance to see the outside world, fascinated with the books he read and the legends he come to know through them. He eventually finds this call for adventure in the form of coming into contact with one of the ancient angels, thought to have been little more than a myth for ages. This angel, with its claims that Killian is the destined savior for all humanity, leads him and his dear Eabha to one of the republic's spies, a cold and calculating man called Duslach. And so would begin the tale of a beloved village boy turned political leader... and eventually, in the trauma he endures, the betrayals he faces, and the mysteries of the planet he unravels along the way, a violent, ruthless tactician and liberator of the Airdein people.

I truly appreciate the thanks, I've been feeling burned out and this helps to hear. (This is a repost because I made a mistake in the original and didn't want to allow misinformation to spread!)

First, I check to make sure the pro-abort who says "it's just a clump of cells" has a basic understanding of fetal development and embryology. I show them these illustrations of a fetus at 8 and 10 weeks from BabyCenter. And I show them these videos of a 7 week fetus and an 8 week fetus.

Second, I gently enquire if they have had a medication abortion, a miscarriage, or know someone who has. If so, they may believe the fetus was merely a clump of cells due to rapid decomposition in the womb before the remains were expelled and observed. Pro-life artist Bea explains why this happens, and sometimes I have to explain this to the pro-abort as well. This can be devastating for them to learn, so be very sensitive, and if they react defensively, show compassion.

Third, I explain why special human tissues are literally just clumps of cells. Let's break this up into steps:

I tell them the basic characteristics of life, and that NASA uses this criteria to determine if something is a discrete living organism. I show them that genuine human embryos (developed from a totipotent zygote) meet this criteria. They are human organisms.

I establish 2 alternate specimens for comparison: tumors and mock embryos (created from pluripotent stem cells).

I point out that tumors do not inherit DNA, they mutate and replicate DNA, ergo they lack the hereditary criteria of human organisms. They also lack the organized development of organisms. Tumors are merely clumps of cells.

I then explain that genuine embryos are actively attaining, retaining, or restoring the ability to reproduce a genetically distinct offspring, which is an inherent capability of human organisms.

I contrast this to mock embryos. They are not known to be capable of organized development to viability or hereditary reproduction, thus mock embryos are merely clumps of cells.

For good measure, I may explain that we know a brain-dead person isn't living because they will never restore ability, and an embryo is necessarily distinct from the parents but not a twin.

Thus I conclude, human fetuses are discrete living organisms, not mere clumps of cells. Note that this is not an argument as to why human fetuses are morally significant persons with an equal right to not be deliberately, violently killed. I go over some arguments for fetal personhood in this post.

The new EC-37B Compass Call aircraft arrived at Davis-Monthan Air Base, Arizona and the military members of the 55th Electronic Combat Group had the opportunity to see the electronic warfare aircraft (EW) up close for the first time.

BAE Systems is the mission system integrator for the program and Gulfstream is the original manufacturer of the specialized EC-37B aircraft, a special mission Gulfstream G550 that meets the requirements of the U.S. Air Force (USAF). As a platform integrator for the program, L3Harris is migrating, or cross-decking, from legacy EC-130H Compass Call mission system to EC-37B.

The G550 platform increased the speed, endurance and extended range of the inherited EC-130H aircraft - providing significantly improved survivability. The new platform will provide combatant commanders with improved interference capacity and flexibility to combat sophisticated communications and radar threats.

Members of the 55th Electronic Combat Group closely watched the EC-37B Compass Call electronic warfare aircraft.

The cross-deck initiative extends the U.S. Air Force's critical electronic warfare mission for many years, while allowing you to overcome your opponents and combat emerging technologies. The superior reliability and sustainability of the G550 means that only 10 EC-37B aircraft provide EW capacity equivalent to the original fleet of 14 high-demand EC-130H aircraft. The Compass Call mission system interrupts enemy command and control communications and limits the opposing coordination essential for the management of the enemy force.

The Compass Call system employs offensive counter-information and Electronic Warfare resources in support of U.S. and coalition tactical air, surface and special operations forces. It is part of the suppression of the enemy air defense triad, and the scheduled updates have expanded its mission, acquiring a secondary electronic attack capability against early warning radars.

The U.S. Air Force's Compass Call program has been in operation for 40 years. The highly deployed EC-130H aircraft served in all major U.S. contingency operations and, until recently, have been continuously deployed to support U.S. Central Command.

1944 Captain America: The Invaders

We should learn more about Hydra and how they operate. Introduces the Invaders team.

Build up the relationship between Cap and Stark, as well as Cap and Peggy and Cap and Bucky. Also Cap and the Howling commandos.

Peggy should get to kick butt in this movie.

This takes place after D-Day. The allies are beginning to turn the tide of the war. Our heroes, however, are fighting a different battle.

Now that Red Skull has shown his true colours, his experiments are becoming less tolerable to the Third Reich. Hydra is a massive threat to the whole world and so Cap and the others are engaged in a somewhat secret battle in France.

Because of where we ended the IAC version of First Avenger, Cap and Peggy are still estranged. The last time she saw him she shot at him!

We open on the scene where Peggy sees that Cap has a picture of her in his compass from the propaganda film, but now from her point of view. This could be proceeded by an actual newsreel on D-Day.

Peggy: Where was that video taken?

Howard: Somewhere in the French countryside I think.

Peggy: Let's find an assignment in France, shall we?

We see Cap, Bucky and the Howling Commandos (HC) following a lead to a small Hydra factory, manufacturing one type of component. This is not the first one they have discovered.

They destroy the factory, wondering what Hydra are building. It is obviously some kind of weapon, but it is hard to tell what kind from the limited number of factories and components they have found.

Meanwhile Namor and his Tri Team have been pursuing Merrano and destroying experimental tesseract powered U-boats and other Hydra naval forces along the way.

Jim Hammond (The Human Torch) has been after Master Man. He has been destroying experimental tesseract powered air support and other Hydra air and ground forces along the way.

Peggy and Howard are now in the countryside, investigating whole squads, allied and German, that seem to have been beaten to death. They find one survivor who is embarrassed to tell them that it was a woman.

They surmise that it was Julia Koenig and that she must have gained her powers from the phase 2 super soldier serum in the lab accident from the Human Torch movie.

In the debris of another battle they fine no survivors at all. Allied and Nazi soldiers bodies alike, in no fit state to send home to their mothers, as Howard puts it. There is earth overturned and scorch marks everywhere, huge tank tracks in the ground...

They wonder if Red Skull has outgrown the Nazis. They follow the trail.

Namor's team pursue Merrano to a river based field laboratory where Cap's team have also traced their next components to.

Namor: The famous Captain America. I believe our meeting is long overdue. Now we shall see if you are as great a warrior as they say.

Steve: Pleasure to meet you Prince Namor. Please, call me Steve.

(Namor proceeds to call him Captain for the rest of the movie)

After a big laboratory fight including brainwashed Talokanil and experimental tesseract weapons the heroes triumph. Namor's team captures Merrano and rescues his people and Cap's team has their new component and new leads. They destroy the factory.

Namora and Attuma head home with Merrano and the freed Talokanil. Namor joins Cap to track down the next component.

In the countryside Master Man is supposed to be marrying Warrior Woman. A propaganda wedding to please the Führer. Master Man (aka Willie Lohmer) is quite excited about it, Warrior Woman…is not. Peggy and Howard arrive at the church in disguise as guests. Peggy, of course, speaks flawless German. She has told Howard to keep his mouth shut.

They manage to overhear that not only does Julia not want to go through with the wedding (not into arranged marriages or Willie) but her powers are on the fritz. Her super strength and agility come and go as a result of getting her powers in an accident, though she keeps her enhanced physique.

All very useful until Howard forgets himself, opens his mouth and soon they are running across the countryside with shots fired after them from Hydra and the Nazis present. Howard gets caught by Master Man but then The Human Torch shows up and challenges him to a fight. Willie can't back down in front of Julia. Jim keeps him busy and then Colonel Phillips and his troops arrive. They engage the enemy and Howard is freed. Cap, Bucky and the HC arrive (they were in the area obvs) and mop up the remnants. The whole wedding party (excluding Julia) is captured. Cap and Peggy are reunited.

The prisoners are relocated to their European base. One, Lotus Newmark, appeals to Howard. She says she started working for Hydra because they could get her family out of their detention centre in New York. Two years later, the centres are still intact and her parents still interred. If they can get them released, she will take them to where Schmidt's super weapon, Panzer Max ('Panzer Max? Sounds a little patriotic for Schmidt…'), is being built. She doesn't know what it is exactly, but it is meant to end the war. It sounds like the kind of machine that could cause the horrific scene that Peggy and Howard found in France.

Howard falls for it, no mind control necessary, and gets the crew together. They all head out to this rather large but otherwise unassuming factory back in the French countryside.

When they arrive the factory is empty save for something big covered in canvases up the back and a series of workrooms and offices behind that. They smell a rat, but Lotus is gone. From a safe distance, she mind controls them to fight eachother. It is clear she is toying with them, she could have them kill each other. Cap does get shot but it is fairly superficial.

Steve and Namor are able to resist due to their powers, Jim is unaffected as he is synthetic. They are surrounded by their friends and allies. Namor is happy to kill them all but Cap and Jim won't let him. They prepare to fight.

Lotus releases them and (psychically) tells them that her part is done, and that the allies are a-holes for the way they treated their own citizens.

Then, as everyone is recovering, Panzer Max rises from the canvases. At full height it nearly reaches the ceiling. It is ridiculously decked out with minigun hands and missiles on it's shoulders. Oh and a tesseract powered laser.

Zola, Warrior Woman, Hydra goons and the Red Skull are piloting. This is the second field test, the first was unsatisfactory as it only contained two opposing military companies and some light artillery. Red Skull is disappointed that Herr Rogers didn't bring more firepower. Panzer starts to lay into our heroes. They warm up the laser.

Dugan says reinforcements are ten minutes out. Cap says they have to hold out till then.

They assault Panzer from different angles to make themselves difficult to target. Cap, Bucky and the commandos try to damage the tank treads. Namor and Jim take to the air and try to break into the cockpit.

It appears to be impervious to conventional weapons, even Cap's shield. They have also made it fireproof and waterproof to combat Namor. Peggy and Howard hit it with rocket/grenade launchers from cover (crates or something? idk), the plating holds.

The laser finally fires and hits close to the crates. Peggy and Howard go flying but survive with minor injuries.

Red Skull is disappointed as it takes the laser a long time to charge. He shoots the goon operating and takes his seat. He asks for time to get it warmed up again.

Namor gets his spear to make a dent but it gets jammed in the plating. He gets hit with a flame thrower taking him out. The group are tiring and the blasts/bullets are getting closer.

Morita gets the call on the radio, reinforcements are here, open a wall and clear a blast zone. The Torch makes the hole and the others get clear. Cap helps Namor.

Panzer takes a volley from missiles, tank shells and mortars. It is unscathed.

The laser is ready. Red Skull retaliates and takes out a tank division with the laser and some missiles.

RS: See? It's not so hard to shoot a laser.

Dying goon: '…'

Then the mini guns go on the advancing infantry. Things are not going well for the heroes. But the distraction for Red Skull gives them a chance to regroup.

Howard and Peggy have some ideas. Howard thinks that the vibranium in Cap's shield could redirect the laser to the shoulder missiles causing them to explode. Peggy didn't like that one as it puts Steve in danger. She reasoned that the operators need to breathe so their must be an intake or exhaust somewhere and they have a powerful and sentient flamethrower.

Steve says they should do both to maximise their chances. Peggy and Howard get Namor to a workroom at the back of the factory.

Surviving reinforcements start arriving at the factory and immediately start getting picked off. Steve makes his presence known and goads Red Skull into concentrating fire on him. He has a hard time avoiding the miniguns but his agility just keeps him from any serious harm.

Jim quietly searches behind it for an intake or exhaust.

The laser warms up, the miniguns fall quiet and Cap stands his ground. Taking up his shield at the strategic moment, he redirects the laser. It is difficult, and the heat is almost unbearable but he manages to get it back to the rockets before Schmidt manages to shut it off.

BOOM!

An entire minigun arm comes off.

Meanwhile the Torch has found an opening and concentrates his flame in there. As the operators frantically try to assess the damage from Rogers' strike, the fierce flames disable the operating system and spread to the cockpit.

Realising the experiment has failed Zola suggests they are now outnumbered and should retreat. The Red Skull says he will deal with Zola's design failure later and they exit with 49 Hydra goons as cover. They head for the back rooms!

As the allies head for the back rooms, Panzer explodes and Jim is caught in the blast. He is thrown into the brickwork and gets buried in rubble.

Cap, Bucky and the commandos pursue Schmidt's party to an underground tunnel. The commandos engage Schmidt's personal goons while Cap and Bucky take on Red Skull.

Zola has quietly made his way to the tesseract powered high speed underground rail transport and is frantically trying to get it started.

Schmidt manages to grab Bucky and puts him between him and Cap. This gives him an opportunity to get on board the transport but with Cap in hot pursuit. Cap manages to get Bucky clear. Schmidt uses that distraction to force Steve off as well and the transport disappears into the distance.

Meanwhile, Julia discovers Peggy and Howard protecting Namor from some goons. She goes for Peggy and Howard tries to be all manly and get in the way. She says she never got the chance to thank him properly for ruining her wedding and she means it. But then she starts to strangle him. Peggy tries to intervene but Julia easily sends her flying. Peggy picks up a wrench and knocks down the goons and stands with it. Julia derisorily asks what she means to do with it.

With a wry smile she knocks a nearby water pipe open and it floods the room. Julia realises what this means too late and is soon in a pitched battle with a revived Namor. The goons recover and keep coming for him until Julia gets the upper hand. Peggy goes to intervene again and Julia hits her but it only lands as a normal punch.

Peggy: What's the matter? Powers on the fritz?

Peggy decks her and, being in a weakened state, she is knocked out. Namor bests the goons. He is impressed with Peggy. Probably tries to flirt with her because…Namor.

Then a debrief back at their European base. Colonel Phillips congratulates the allies for ensuring that Hydra didn't turn the D-Day invasion into a failure.

Howard has charmed some Locals into giving a crate of champagne. He starts passing out glasses and bottles as Phillips speaks. When he finishes, Howard proposes a toast to his favourite Invaders (too on the nose?).

Cap should have a moment with Peggy and with Bucky while Jim is welcomed to the gang by the Howling commandos. They ask where Namor has gone. Jim says he went home to have a party of his own.

Cut to Namor having a lavish ceremony to celebrate the capture of the traitor Merrano and the return of the kidnapped Talokanil. Big celebrations!

Then we track down to the prison where Merrano can hear the celebrations. But instead of being sad, he is SMILING…

Post credits:- Lady Lotus complains to the Red Skull that her parents haven't been released yet…"You said you would free them all, raze the internment camp to the ground".

Schmidt has realised that if Steve Rogers can resist her then he can too and he needed some insurance that she would stay and carry out the next part of the plan. He will need her talents very soon…

It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that we had to let our beloved Miss Mare go yesterday morning. Her breathing didn’t improve & the “fatty fluid” leaked into her heart & other organs so we did the right thing & saw her out with dignity, compassion & love. We are heartbroken but so glad we adopted her at age 10 & could give her 6 beautiful Golden Years full of love. The loss of a being that you love is by far the most painful part of life. 💔

As most of you know, we adopted Miss Mare as a special needs, obese cat who was said to be 10 years old in August 2016. We knew we would only have Miss Mare through her Golden Years when we adopted her but we didn’t think they’d fly by so quickly. Unfortunately such is life.

Mare was one of the sweetest cats I have ever had the honor of sharing my life with. She was such a beautiful soul. Always so well behaved & kind. Originally her previous “guardian” brought her to the Humane Society to be euthanized because she felt she was suffering due to her weight. Fortunately Lollypop saw potential in her & instead asked to have her turned over to them for adoption. We were looking to adopt a new friend for Bushy after losing our wonderful 18 year old cat Claude in the fall of 2015. I remember going into Lollypop & asking one of the staff if he had a favorite cat. He said he did but she was in the back office due to needing special care at the time. He led us back to meet her & there was Mare. She was so friendly & sweet, humming hello, coming up & flirting. We instantly fell in love. We wouldn’t change a thing about the past 6 years with Mare. She truly had a wonderful life with us filled with love & respect. She was never alone, always surrounded by love. She was a very happy girl. She loved going out on the deck with Bushy, looking at the beautiful view, gardening her fountain grass in the summer. She had such a green paw. 🪴😼

We greatly appreciate all of your comments & love over the years. It is so touching to see that Mare was loved by so many. Yesterday we also lost 80s icon Olivia Newton-John. In a weird way it’s strangely soothing that one of my childhood favorites passed the same day as little Mare. When I was a kid I would play Olivia’s tape on my cassette player over & over. Xanadu was magical to me & the soundtrack still transports me back to that time in my life. I imagine Miss Mare & Olivia, both in Xanadu roller skates (Mare has on 4 of course 🛼🛼🛼🛼), waiting together at the gates to get into heaven. I wish I had artistic talent, I would draw the scene in my head & frame it.

Miss Mare will forever live on in our memories & hearts until we are reunited again. She will always be alive in the many videos & photos that we have. Please think of little Mare when you are considering adopting an animal companion & consider an older, special needs animal. The love & joy they bring is like no other. While it hurts greatly when having to say goodbye, the time you get with them makes it all worth it. Sadness & tears are a testament to just how special that being was. Animals in particular have such a large presence for such small beings. They leave a big hole when their time comes but eventually your heart heals & you’re able to share your life & love with another little creature in need. Bushy seems to be doing well. I think he’s picking up on our sadness because he’s been extra attentive but he seems to be ok so far.

Tbh Spinbot isn't as fun to write as Tough because Spinbot is less rounded by design. He's made to be a very one note sort of character, because Eggman programmed him to be that way. He can't grow without severe detriment to his programming, and he's always very cocky but loyal to Eggman. He gets dull very quickly, but would accel in a video game or fic antagonist role.

Tough, meanwhile, is MUCH more fun to write because he's so much more complex. He hasn't been brainwashed, but he is heavily traumatized. He did what he had to to survive but became dependent on that reality, that method of survival, and so he keeps recreating it to make more people "stronger"... in reality, this is how he connects with people better. People who haven't been through what he has been through can't be considered real people to him. They're just puppets, or boring and faceless husks... at least to him.

(The rest is under the cut, as this post functions as both backstory, character discussion, comparison and some drabble elements. warnings for: abuse, death, blood, trauma)

You could have been through some pretty awful situations, and Tough wouldn't care because he believes what happened to him will always be worse. However, he's interested in people who have survived through physical and mental trauma, and wants to see if they can be moulded into something more.

Originally, a character like Shadow wouldn't have interested him. Shadow was born strong, he is capable, and he was able to put his past behind him. He's not pathetic, he's not weak. He's never been discarded... Tough would have rolled his eyes at anything Shadow would have to say about Tough's ideals and methods as pure drivel... but Maria? Now that's an interesting specimen.

In an AU where Tough has more nieces than just Carey, Tough ends up adopting @achancetobehappy into his gang. We haven't really sorted out how they meet yet, but Tough's interest in her comes from the fact that she's also an ultimate life form, but she's also sick. She has lived through the trauma of her and Shadow's past, she's just as capable as he is, and yet... he is so afraid of losing her again that Shadow may be overprotective. Tough capitalizes on that; his interest in her as a powerful weapon, someone he can use to take out the factory that had ruined his life, but also... someone who is practically screaming for recognition of her talents and abilities, at least from Tough's perspective.

Spinbot would be boring here because his characterization begins and ends with Loyalty to Eggman, Death to Freedom. He's full of taunts but not much else which is boring in a thread. I do love him, he's fun to draw, but that 1 note personality that was programmed into him on purpose gets very irritating to write.

Tough doesn't have that problem. He's able to meet different situations with different approaches. He can be the whimsical loudspeaker snake who screams about illegal wet baby fights, he can blow up a building to the tune of Flight of the Valkyries, meticulously setting each explosive to go off in rhythm to each note... He can be threatening and ominous when desired, towering over his prey like a beast about to strike... And he can be soft, holding out his scarred palms and sharp talons, so gently, as to not pinch or frighten the hand he holds in his.

His voice can lower, to one of gentle understanding. Compassion... Empathy. He understands them, he knows what they've been through... but his understanding comes from a very veiled and biased viewpoint. Tough projects onto the people he is interested in. It's how he sees that they might understand him, that they can be saved. Moulded. Reborn... as he was.

And it's fun because Tough both believes his own views, very strongly, AND he fully intends to manipulate his persons of interest to his side. It doesn't have to be either/or. It's both.

A thing with Tough is, and this was mirrored in Arcane and it's why I pogged so hard when I watched it, he becomes attached to the people he manipulates if they stay with him long enough. He starts to care about them so, so much. So much more than he thought he could ever care... he figures he lost this ability to care about others a long time ago. And yet... he's met people who make him feel alive again.

His main adopted niece, @cutpursecavalier Carey Jess, saved his life with nothing but her consistency, her presence, and her warmth. Beyond the terrible grasp of grammar and her extremely crude and crass humour, there was a young woman who got Tough. A rare occasion where Tough felt like she was like him without having to go through his trials first. Without having come from the Wasteland Zone or the Underwaste. At first he considered her someone to just mess with, to serve her uses as a spunky powerhouse, and not give a damn if she died.

Now? He'd sooner slaughter every gang in Empire City than suffer her death. When he found her in that motel, beaten within an inch of her life, he felt a terror grip his heart. A heart he assumed had died with Radiance. That terror, mixed with love and rage... He cradled her bloodied body, venom leaking from his fangs as hatred boiled in his veins. He had every intent to pay back what was done to his beloved niece.

And this had never happened before... at least... not since he lost Specter. Specter was a teenager who had been a survivor of the Underwaste, who Tough had rescued from some shitty madmen who intended to sell him as a slave. Specter had been given a chance at life again, Tough being his purpose... and he broke free, killing his old masters and joining Tough's first interation of the Surprisingly Severe. Specter was only a little younger than Tough at the time... 14 to Tough's 18. Tough saw him as a little brother, in a way. Specter was named that by Tough, telling him that when he bathed in the blood of his Masters, he drowned his former self. Specter could blend in with his surroundings, changing the colour of his scales to match and effectively become a ghost... Tough felt a connection. His gang would slowly grow, until one day he'd return from foraging for mushrooms in deeper parts of the cavern, to find the camp had been attacked. The invaders had all been slaughtered, with few casualties on The Severe's side... except one of those casualties was Specter. He lay in a pool of his green blood, which seemed to glow in the darkness. He was struggling to breathe, despite the massive stab wounds his smaller body had sustained. Tough immediately gathered Specter into his arms, no no no no, not you. Not you. You were the first. You can't... He'd cradle Specter's small body in his arms, nuzzling against him, pleading for him to hold on...

But Specter wouldn't answer. He was dead, held in his big brother's arms.

This was Tough's first real loss in the Severe. There were members that were no more than thugs or henchmen, really... and then there were members Tough held such high regard for, personally overseeing their growth... Specter would be one of them... and Specter died.

Tough would feel this same pain burn him inside as he held Carey's body, though this was years later... Tough was 42 now. So long since Specter... Not this time. He wouldn't lose another one. He'd aid in a raid to rescue Carey's old friend... not for him, but for her. His gang was surprised to be doing something so... altruistic? But the novelty made it exciting all the same.

Tough doesn't like to get attached, and yet, he's so lovable. So charismatic...So strange. His unique way of doing things mixed with his sense of "helping" others while being a Raider makes him a peculiar character for sure. A real Catcher in the Rye or Peter Pan type. Though rather than focusing on protecting the innocence of children, Tough seeks out those who have been cast aside, discarded, left to die and he asks them if they would rather survive.

It's easy to say that Tough is a terrible person. He's done so many horrible things, many I won't list in this post... feeling sympathy for him may feel like you're doing something wrong. But I think the labeling of "good person" and "bad person" is not only an oversimplification, but it's also incorrect.

Tough is a person who has done terrible things, rather than a terrible person. There is a distinction.

Spinbot is a terrible person, because he was born that way. He was made to be that way. He didn't get there from surviving the most horrific situations, he was literally programmed to be like this. Sonic may be his brain scan, but everything that made him Sonic was inhibited so Spinbot could serve Eggman. There's no backstory, there's no growth. Spinbot was made from Sonic's brain, but holds no connection or endearment to that history, those bonds. They're more like something he inherited than things he crafted himself, and again, that's because Eggman made him that way. You can still feel sorry for Spinbot, but writing him is much less interesting in comparison because he's so one note.

Tough wasn't born terrible. He was born Theodore "Teddy" Bare, child of [REDACTED] the Rattlesnake and [REDACTED] the Cobra. He was born into an underground nation, comprised by multiple mining colonies. Enough people to take up a few major cities! When he would turn 13, his father promised not only to take him with him to the surface to sell gemstones, but also to take him to his first above ground carnival... And! He'd teach him how to operate the heavy mining machinery. Teddy was so excited, so eager.

And then, on his birthday, as he prepared to make a wish over his pastry packs... a loud rumbling, cracking, quaking... an enormous waste pipe burst through the ceiling of the underground nation, on its exterior bore a grinning mustachiod logo ... and neon pink toxic waste began to pour into the underground, flooding the streets, the tunnels, the caverns, killing, drowning, suffocating, mutating and driving its citizens to madness.

"Happy 13th Birthday, Teddy. You're a man today! Well... maybe you're sstill a little kid?"

"I'm NOT a LITTLE kid!! I can HANDLE SSO much more THAN I COULD yesssterday!!! My MUSCLESS are BULGING OUT!!!"

"Hahaha! WOAH, WOAH, don't punch your old man, I'm frail, nothing compared to you! You ready to help me today, Theodore?"

"OF COURSSSE! I'll become SSO good at thissss THAT I'LL be able to teach OTHERSSS!"

"Oh yeah? You have the patiensssce to be a teacher, Teddy? Threaten your ssstudentsss with your punchy tough love?"

"NYA HA HA! Only if THEY DON'T lissssten!!! Can I have my passstry PACK BEFORE dinner, dad??? IT'Ssss my birthday, tradition dictatessss my wish WILL COME TRUE if I make it over sssomething SSSWEET!"

"Tradition dictatess, eh? Sure. I'll get your mother, let'ss get you that wish."
