I saw someone call Legally Blonde sexist and it makes me honestly wonder if they even watched it???
Maybe the movie is wildly different, but the entire point of the musical is accepting yourself and being as feminine as you want because stereotypical femininity doesn’t make you any less intelligent or capable.
Elle’s entire story arc is going from thinking that she has to wait for Warner to propose to her, thinking that she can’t look too desparate to get married because that will make Warner look bad, to proposing to her boyfriend at the end of her graduation speech. She learns that she doesn’t have to wait for a man, she doesn’t have to make life decisions based on a man, she can make changes to her life and circumstances entirely of her own volition.
The entire point of the musical is staying true to oneself. Callahan, the literal villain, tells his students that they have to change themselves to be taken seriously. They have to change their moral compass, and they have to win every case by any means possible. He mocks them for thinking compassionately. He doesn’t even entertain the idea that a woman who teaches self defense didn’t murder her own husband. He teaches Elle that she has to change herself to be taken seriously in any context, but no matter how much she changes, she’ll still just be viewed by him as eye candy.
Meanwhile, the actual mentor figure is Emmett (at least when it comes to law). Emmett’s song is the antithesis of Blood in the Water. Chip on Your Shoulder is about sticking to your guns. Emmett tells Elle all about his motivations to be at Harvard law, and his motivations and backstory fuel his entire character. He grew up with just his mom and the men his mom dated, not very good men, and he became protective of his mom. He’s there to make his mom proud, he’s there to make his mom happy, he’s there because he made this chance for himself and he’s taking it.
Unlike Callahan’s point of changing yourself to be taken more seriously, Emmett’s is entirely about how Elle doesn’t have to change herself, she just has to actually start putting effort into studying. He doesn’t expect her to change anything about herself except for the amount of work she’s doing. He teases her, but he’s completely accepting of her interests.
Emmett is the one who inspires and teaches Elle to be passionate about school, not Callahan, and it’s because Emmett’s teaching methods involve staying true to your morals. Staying true to yourself.
More than that, the entire musical is built on Elle’s relationship with her female friends. The “Greek choir,” the female students, Paulette, Brook Wyndham, etc. Enid is one of my favourite examples, since she has this line: “I used to pray for the day you’d leave, swore and down you did not belong. But when I’m wrong, then I say I’m wrong, and I was wrong about you. So listen up! I see no end to what you’ll achieve, that’s only if you don’t turn and run. You proved it to me, now show everyone what you can do.”
Enid is a feminist and generally, in the beginning, is snide about Elle, but she learns from Elle that she doesn’t have to be afraid of showing her own femininity. Enid is in a highly male-dominated field and she’s a lesbian; she acts more masculine and tries to fit in with the boys, and she does this because she wants desperately to be taken seriously. Elle shows her that she doesn’t have to pretend. She goes from looking down on Elle to looking up to her, and the character arc is just super sweet.
Legally Blonde is about as far from sexist as it’s possible to be. Just because a few characters (who are literally antagonists or are misguided and grow and change over the course of the story) are sexist, that doesn’t make the core of the musical misogynistic. It’s not, and to look at it that way is incredibly diminutive.

I think it's easy to write off Whizzer Going Down as the haha funny gay sex song, and don't get me wrong, it totally is funny and silly, but I feel like we're all forgetting how genuinely beautiful it is.
Its a song about a repressed gay man finally getting to express himself and be with who he wants. It shows Marvin finally accepting that he wants men, and Allowing himself to be with one. It's the first time we see Marvin really, truly happy. It's not a "giddy seizure" or bid for attention, he's really genuinely celebrating life and love and being utterly over the moon about Whizzer and his new-found sexual freedom.
He calls what he has with Whizzer delightful, he loves it so much he says he might just die. Even though they're already fighting, he admits he cares for Whizzer & truly celebrates him.
The name "Whizzer" is said over and over and over again in the song. The other characters in in Trousers don't even get names. Just "wife" or "sweetheart" (except Ms Goldberg, who still doesn't have a first name). But Marvin repeats "Whizzer" so so much because for the first time, he found someone who he truly cares about, who Matters to him. Even though falsettos shows us how toxic they'll turn out to be later, it's still utterly beautiful to see this side of Marvin- how he can learn to love and care and celebrate life and his sexuality- even if it's still going to be a long journey.

Scott hasn't been the same since Jean's death. He still remembers the jet. Demanding they lowered the ramp. Snapping at Nightcrawler to go and get her. The way the realisation set in as she spoke through Xavier. He didn't believe it at first. Not really. Something in him knew – you couldn't lose someone like her without feeling the shift in the universe.
Everything came crashing down all at once. She was gone. Jean Grey was gone, and he was all alone all over again.
He cried so much the first night without her that his lungs burned and his heartbeat pounded painfully in his head. Hours had passed before he eventually exhausted himself, falling asleep curled up on her side of the bed. When he awoke the next morning, he was suddenly very grateful no one would be able to see just how red and swollen his eyes were under the shades he wore.
There's a feeling of exhaustion that is unexplainable to those who haven't lost anything. Scott’s mind couldn't handle the rapid changing of emotions coursing through him. The regret he felt for every time he didn't put his all in when it came to Jean. The desperation he felt to find some way to get her back, some hint that she was alive somehow. The guilt he felt for every argument they'd had. That he hadn't told her ‘I love you’ the day she died. At the end of it all came acceptance.
With acceptance came numbness. Everything he did reminded him of Jean, so he chose to do nothing at all.
Logan of all people seemed concerned about him. Scott feels a little queasy when he thinks back to the jet, about how he clung to the older man. He felt safe with him, although that's something he'd never admit – even if he knows there's no point trying to hide it; Logan's the only one Scott’s let visit him since he lost Jean.
“She's been askin’ about you, y’know.” Logan didn't have to say who he was speaking about for Scott to know it was you. You had tried to speak to him once he returned to the school after the mission, and he had instantly pushed past you. It wasn't your fault, not really. You just reminded him too much of her in the way you acted. He couldn't stomach your presence right now. He didn't feel strong enough.
“Don't start lecturing me. I don't have the energy for your shit tonight.” Scott remembers how hard he had to try not to let his voice waver. How hard it was not to tell Logan how badly he needed comforting. He was a leader, first and foremost. He wouldn't break down. Not in front of him.
“You should at least come out ‘n eat somethin’.” Scott can't remember the last time he felt hungry.
“Nah. Nah, I can't face the kids like this.” That was the end of the conversation. Every time you or Logan have tried to visit him since has been met with silence and avoidance. He's never felt this pathetic before in his life.
It's better this way, he thinks, curling up with one of Jean's old shirts. The smell is starting to fade. He cries himself to sleep for the first time that night since she died.

“He's grieving, Logan. You just gotta give him time.”
A scowl spreads across the man's face at your words, brows pinching together as he brings the lighter to his mouth, igniting the cigar he has perched between his lips. He takes a few puffs, breathing the smoke out through his nose as he leans back in the chair.
“He's bein’ a fuckin’ asshole, s'what he's doin’.” He grunts, running a hand through his hair. His gaze is distant at your words. Directed at you, but going right through you. “We're all grievin’. Bastard's just gonna end up killin’ himself at this rate.”
“He loved her, Logan. He's gonna need time to process it.” You say with a sigh, running a hand over your face. Your free hand absentmindedly taps against the table, fingers cycling one by one against the hardwood. The noise draws Logan's gaze downwards, and he scoffs slightly.
“I loved–” Logan pauses. I loved her, he was going to say, but it didn't feel right. He loved the idea of her. Loved her like a friend, once he’d truly gotten to know her. I love him, is what he wants to say, but it isn't the time or the place. What good would it do?
“Doesn’t matter.” He huffs after a moment, grabbing the bottle of whiskey from the jacket hanging off the back of his chair, unscrewing the lid and gulping some down. Nothing he can think of seems right to say at this moment.
Logan can't ever remember feeling so hopeless.

Numbness bleeds away to self-destruction. Scott can't help but feel as though there's something he should be punished for. He could have tried harder to save Jean. He should have. Maybe she'd still be here if he had.
It's the third time he's been to the Danger Room this week. His muscles still ache from last time, each step he takes causing discomfort to shoot through his legs. The pain is a welcome distraction from his grief. A reminder that he was still alive.
Once Scott is thrown into combat, his mind goes blank. He's able to focus – finally – as his brain quietens down. He blocks each and every attack that comes his way with a hand or an arm, leaving his visor untouched. He has no desire to use his powers today, not when each hit he sustains makes him feel alive again. Makes him forget.
The simulation around him falters and fades, and it feels as though his entire world comes crumbling around him. He's suddenly aware of the throbbing pain behind his knuckles, the ache spreading upwards until a dull soreness settles in the muscles of his arms. Each blow he'd been unable to block sends searing pain up and down his body now that he's not relying on adrenaline to get him through.
His gaze filters across the room appraisingly, eventually settling on Logan who is slowly approaching. Of course it was Logan. It always came back to him.
“I was training.” Scott snaps. Or attempting to, at least. He's winded and tired and sore, and he doesn't want to have to deal with Logan today if he can help it.
“You were takin’ a beatin’. Not gonna learn anythin’ just letting a bunch of holograms kick the shit out of ya.” Logan grunts in response, taking his space in front of Scott.
“I didn't ask for your advice.”
“I couldn't give a fuck either way. Your attitude is startin’ to piss me off.” Logan growls, stepping closer until he and Scott are barely a few inches apart. His hands come up to push at the younger man’s shoulders, sending him stumbling back a few steps. “Hit me.”
“Sorry, what?” Scott replies, brows knitting together as he stares at Logan through the visor.
“C'mon, I know you've wanted to since the day we met. M’not givin’ you another chance.” Scott’s eyes narrow behind his eyewear, but his hands come up to push harshly at Logan’s chest. The mutant doesn't budge. “Really? I know you can do better than that, bub. Hit me.”
So Scott does. He hits Logan as hard as he can, fist connecting with the rigid muscles of his chest over and over again. The skin of his knuckles crack and break, blood marring his pale skin as he unleashes his frustrations out on Logan. He just takes it, jaw set tight. Logan catches Scott when he eventually collapses against his chest with tears in his eyes, clinging to him just as he had that day on the jet. He holds him there until his breathing evens out and he stops crying.

“Hey, uh… Can I talk to you for a second?” Scott's voice is quiet as he pushes open your door, even in the near silence of your room this late at night. He wasn't sure what he could say to you to make this better. He knows he's been avoiding you. Look there was always going to be ONE show that did the canonizing of a heavily popular m/m pairing first. If we're being honest a lot of fans wanted their show to be first.
The reality is a lot of the reasons it doesn't go there is because 1.the network they are on and 2. the viewership numbers and demographics they choose to target. What people don't get is half the time the actors and the show WANT to go there. Supernatural the NDA's may of been ironclad but the actors disappointment is forever visible.
Now when it comes to 9-1-1 imo I think why they went fuck it lets do it is multiple factors.
This was always a queer show since day 1. People can fight it deny it try and jump through hoops but since day 1 it has centered queer characters regularly. In real life queer people are drawn together whether they have figured it out or not so Buck and Eddie and Hen all actively working on the same rig makes sense to me. Just like Tommy being gay and originally being on the rig makes sense to me. It's always unintentional but it happens. And probably part of the safety for being there is knowing they will always be actively accepted regardless even if they don't know who they are.
The network change. Now being on Fox they clearly had marked the demographics they cared about the most and threw an odd crumb here and there to the younger fans. And I think that's changed. I think with the transition of networks they just want viewership numbers to be high. Which means looking at what all fans want in general. People were never clambering the seats for Buddie because they were two hot men or whatever. It was about how they both had queer coding and that their relationship moments would often parallel the romantic pairings in the show. Further giving more queer coding. When one of the men is having a panic attack and admitting that they are performing when being with women my thought isn't damn he'll meet the right one eventually. It's um buddy are you sure you like women? And with Buck- Eddie's introduction is centered on his pov so the mighty good man song the slow mo that's all Buck's seeing. There was actively nothing about Buck that was straight he's always been open and nurturing.
THEY HAD A CHANCE TO DO THE FUNNIEST THING AND THEY DID. Between the memeability of Buck being canonized Bi in 4 episodes with a different network. The sheer amount of fandoms who went through the M/M queer coded long running shows - they had an audience they could target with good results. People are already starting the show because Buck got to be himself .And they have actively marketed to Buddie fans.. The interviews with the actors. Buck's bi walkthrough being a positive experience with a guest star. Everything about this story is treated with respect because it was never just the fans who wanted this. Poor Oliver wanted Buck to be kissing men for years. AND ALL THE QUEER CHARACTERS DOING FAMILY FUEDS DURING PRIDE MONTH!!!! Iconic marketing actually. We love to see it.
And lastly out of every m/m pairing Buck/Eddie is the easiest imo to sway general audiences. Think about it. Buck and Eddie are basically raising a child together. Eddie wrote a will that said if he dies Buck raises his son. Eddie forces himself to be with women who he doesn't like out of duty. Buck seeks out unattainable women or relationships he know won't work. WHY IS THAT? The story gives a reason to both characters behavior. Why they keep repeating the same patterns over and over. You won't stop the closeminded people and the ones who are biphobic or ignorant but it opens the door for fans who are none of those things. And changes the game of television.

this is a surface level rant on my part. honestly if i had the time and research skills id look up the context of why this was written and how its been used in media up till this point. honestly i might. either way its fairly surface level.
This song is heard when Crowley is going back to Aziraphale in season 2 after he found out about the book of life erasing thing. After listening to this song I have to say. THIS IS AMAZING. obviously the song is good its queen.
Crowley's songs are always queen songs and given the title and given Aziraphales regular dress and general pop culture knowledge i think we know who the “good old fashioned lover boy” is.
This is obviously a romance song but similarly to “A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square.” the lyrics fit their relationship so nicely!!! (as well as being an absolute bop. LISTEN TO THIS GODDAMN SONG. i like the part at 1:44. so cheery!!!)(also this is why Neil Gaimen is AWESOME such small details in the fucking SONG a fucking BENTLEY plays.)(its like 1:09am and im still up after not getting sleep last night and prob none today so ima go on tangents like this hehe)

like come on man. “Dining at the Ritz” its Aziracrows THING. their whole routine is dine at the ritz, Aziraphale eats and crowley drinks copious amounts of alcohol, Crowley is always seen paying the bill (or doing something of the sort), they drive in a cool fucking bentley (with a James Bond bullet hole window screen insert), and they go back to Aziraphales bookshop. and the “that'd be fine” matches Aziraphales general attitude when inviting Crowley back to his place in the 1st season and in older flashbacks. Now thats the most obvious. there are many other examples of lyrics that very conveniently match to them.
“Say the word, your wish is my command”
throughout history when Aziraphale and Crowley met up they did favors. whether it be making Hamlet successful, performing magic on the west end stage, getting holy water (“You go too fast for me Crowley.”YOU MF AZIRAPHALE WHYYYY) or magicing away some paint on a very old well kept jacket. they always do things like this for each other. focusing solely on Crowley's perspective he, throughout history, has always been the one to accept Aziraphales requests with little to no complaints. (until Armageddon i suppose)
even in season 2 he lets Aziraphale use his bentley. Although there is some bickering there, he still lets it happen. He doesn't sell books while Aziraphale is away and he even carries them around (the sleeve garters are a whole other thing in this scene)
now realistically the “good old fashioned lover boy” is, im sure, referring to both of them. also the song just feels gay. just listen to it. its gay. i swear.
Now. not saying it matches perfectly. obviously it doesn't but even the GO fandom links the two pieces of media on occasion(see second link). they are inexplicably connected, whether its false pattern recognition (i have currently forgotten the proper term for that. T-T) or intended by mr gaiman i think its so intriguing that the songs picked to play fit so nicely into the deeper narrative. this. is good media

Essentially means smooth talking on the phone. Which you have to admit Crowley does to Aziraphale quite often. And Aziraphale writes letters. honestly its cute. specially im thinking of season 1 when Aziraphale is writing a note to Crowley while they are on the phone. its later in the season in the last ditch rush to stop the antichrist.
I used the bit of lyrics that fit them the best in the beginning of the rant. and time for my least convincing point. the vibe just fits them so well. the slightly old school beat with simple romantic lyrics. Its not anything overtly sexual. just the simplicities of romance. IT FUCKING FITTSSS!!!!

It’s 2023, and Larries still can’t enjoy Louis Tomlinson, the artist, as an individual. It always has to be about him and that other person. Everything he does has to relate to someone else. Never appreciated or celebrated his art without needing to link it to someone else. If he wears something, oh, it’s because of someone else; if he expresses himself, oh, it’s about that person; if he has lights surrounding him, it’s not about him alone; no, never, that can not be. The disrespect is constant. I saw someone tweet about wanting to get into Louis, and the replies were about Larry and "proof" compilations from when he was young so many moons ago. Not his music, not his shows, nothing about him alone, nothing about the person and artist he is NOW. Larries do not realize the damage they cause on a daily basis. The whole idea of Larry goes beyond shipping; it in itself is disrespectful, homophobic, and misogynistic on so many levels. Let me play along and say Larry was or is real, and one of them or both do not want to talk about or be public with their sexuality (and stop with the management thing). Why in the world would you engage in a behavior that outs him? What Larries do is not done behind closed doors or only in fanfics (that alone is a conversation for another day); during Louis’ AOTV premiere, his concerts, online, among his colleagues and peers, Larries are there, and they are not just loud but obnoxious. Imagine saying you care about someone (well, more about their sexuality and who he "might" be dating), and yet you out him every chance you get. Vile behavior. Louis is a person with layers, friends, and experiences that you will never have access to, and that makes you mad and outraged. You attack people he loves, people he dates, and people he wants to be part of his life. You disrespect his family, his son, and his friends, and then claim that you love him while you scream liar to him with no shame. You don’t see Louis as an individual, and you need to realize that. You take part in homophobic stereotypes and discussions about his private sex life; you fight and get annoyed when he exhibits any behavior that doesn’t fit your misogynistic stereotypes; the same man that writes songs like Angels Fly, Holding on to Heartache, Defenseless... (insert all his discography). You contribute the "tommo way" to being an asshole. You showcase classist behavior; you don’t even want to admit that everything he stands for and all his values that he has spoken about publicly go against the person you so desperately "ship" him with. Louis is a solo artist in his 30s, on his second world tour, standing on his own after years of self-doubt. He finally found confidence and joy in being on stage, he talks about how thankful he is to be accepted, and feeling safe as AN ARTIST, and yet all Larries care about is: is he gay? He can’t be straight... Grow up and reevaluate what you are really doing. Louis has had enough struggles; enjoy the music and stop reducing him into a delusional ship.

Sheppard-gives-Kolya-to-Todd now finally has a name and a first chapter posted! bodies in my closet which I added the Dead Dove: Do Not Eat to as a promise to myself to actually follow through on what I want this fic to be: an exploration of Sheppard's dark side. As currently all he wants to do is make out with Todd which, while is an understandable position to hold as well as a nice add-on, isn't what I'm going for overall.
What Sheppard needs to let his darkness out is an enabler. On Atlantis he's surrounded by good people who keep him on the straight and narrow through a mixture of support and pressure (what I mean by 'pressure' is Sheppard feeling pressured to live up to their expectations for what sort of person he should be). I think this is very well shown when he and his team are onboard Todd's hive and he won't give Todd an inch of ground even as Todd is clearly begging for help. If they were alone, I believe Sheppard would be much more willing to provide assistance, but in front of the others he has to 'save face'. Like when he says to Todd "every time we work together I feel like there's a live grenade in my pocket". He would never have said that if there'd been someone else - anyone else, even a stranger - in the room with them, because he's admitting to a weakness: 'I know you're dangerous and I'm going to risk helping you anyway'.

his boy's a fucking queer is inspired by the song the lyric's from: He's So Good by Trash Boat, and is pre-canon SGU, way back when Telford and Young were young men (ages aren't specifically given but mid-to-late twenties, perhaps early thirties at a stretch). Telford stumbles across Young making out with a man. Now, back in those days trading handjobs was common place (yes irl not just in my headcanon lol) because there were so few women on base - if any - and there were often long periods where everyone wasn't even allowed to leave the base at all. So it was viewed by the majority as Not Gay, just something you did to get by.
Kissing, however? Hmm. Telford reacts extremely poorly, and so far it's left open to the interpretation of the reader whether that's because he's jealous, wants Young for himself, and has internalised homophobia about the whole thing, or whether he's just straight up homophobic. But it gets angsty and hate-crimey so it's heavy reading, perhaps even to a more serious degree than the torture in the above Kolya fic, purely because a large section of the people who engage with fandom are queer in some way and therefore will be feel more personal connection to a hate crime over the torture of a "bad guy".
I tried to stop myself from launching off "bad guy" and put this in the tags because it's not strictly tied to the fics, but I couldn't help myself. Sorry. 😂
So. What does 'bad guy' really mean? How has western socialisation affected our views on the subject? Is Kolya a bad guy or someone in a terrible situation? Can you blame any of the 'bad guys' in Pegasus for what they do? They've been subjugated and terrorised for ten thousand plus years. Wouldn't any of us do anything to escape that or even have just a single scrap of safety amongst the horror? Like I don't blame Ronon for never accepting the Wraith in any way shape or form because they slaughtered his entire planet and on the other side of things I don't blame the individual Wraith for killing because the only other option available to them is death, and any species will do incredible things in order to survive. I'll chuck the Iraq-Afghanistan comparison in there too: the Genii as a whole and Kolya as an individual are only the way they are because of Wraith oppression, much like when Western troops roll into places they should not be in and start killing the local populace - they create resistance groups and lend credence to existing ones because people are watching their families die. If someone came into my home and killed my family I'd want to kill them too. I know the eye-for-an-eye viewpoint isn't a healthy one for society and overall I am a prison abolitionist and rehabilitation-focused person, but that's an easy stand to take when I don't have skin in the game, ya know? 🤷‍♂️
Back to the fic! I haven't worked out the ending yet - it's one of those short stories that I get distracted away from halfway through and leave unfinished for a while unless someone expresses interest in the idea - but I don't think it's going to be a happy one.
Everett goes white as a sheet. Telford's never actually seen anyone have the colour drain from their face at such a rate before. He's always imagined it's the response duty-death informers get, calling to the house of some unfortunate serviceman's wife, who knows as soon as she sees a man in uniform who's not her husband at her door.

I love them, I love them so much. So they need to suffer >:)
Howdy is a petty ex, I can’t see it any other way
I think they dated in high school, but Howdy’s internalized homophobia kinda definitely ruined things
I think howdy said some… not nice things to Eddie (that he totally doesn’t think about himself haha 😅) and that ended the relationship
Howdy still has feelings, but he still hasn’t fully accepted himself for being bisexual so he pushes them away
Eddie was a hot mess after their breakup, he felt like he failed their relationship even though he tried his best to make things work
What Howdy said stuck with him for years. It was the first time someone he loved told him such things to his face and it haunts him
When they’re adults, Eddie tries to be cordial but Howdy just avoids him and is very bitter either with him
Howdy will never admit it, but in their relationship he liked Eddie more when he was in drag because he could pretend his relationship was “normal”
Howdy is so internalized it hurts but it still didn’t excuse him treating his bf like trash 😔
For extra angst Eddie dates Latter later on and their relationship is actually really happy and healthy
That drives Howdy up the wall, there’s now way someone could like LATTER more than him (I love u latter this is Howdy’s thoughts not mine :,3)

Coby's passion for dancing has been a lifelong affair, and he moved to LA to chase his dreams of becoming a performer. This led him straight into go-go dancing at an LGBTQ+ bar in Santa Monica, a stepping stone toward his larger aspirations. He dreams of one day making it big, whether as a professional dancer, entertainer, or perhaps even a choreographer.
To support himself and fund his dance classes, Coby juggles multiple part-time jobs during the day when he's not dancing at the club — including as waitstaff at a restaurant and life drawing modelling. When he’s not working or dancing, Coby enjoys soaking up the sun and loves spending time at the beach.
Coby’s a people person through and through. He’s flirtatious, warm and charismatic, with great emotional intelligence. He is a romantic at heart, but does have a tendency to attract men with commitment issues. Still, he loves the excitement of new connections, even if they don’t often last.
Coby does harbour some insecurities, particularly when it comes to the unknown. While he dreams of making it big as a performer, the thought of stepping into uncharted territory is more daunting than he'd like to admit. You watched, dread filling your stomach, as he knelt down on one knee, and as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
You watched as everyone applauded and cheered, and as he slid the ring onto her finger.
You watched, and then downed the rest of your drink. You needed to get out of there.

She laughed.

You smiled, trying not to show your discontent.
"Never, babes."

You walked towards the balcony, and found your best friend there. Puffs of smoke circled Jason's face, and once he noticed you, he held the stick out to you. You accepted, and took a deep breath.
"You good?"
"No."
He huffed out a dry laugh.
"Yeah, I didn't think so."
He didn't say anything after that.
He didn't need to. He already understood how you felt.

Once Dick finally accepted that you weren't going to wear a dress to his wedding, you and Jason ditched him and rifled through a rack of leather jackets.
After a few minutes of silence, you spoke.
"Why did she say yes?"
Jason shrugged.
"Even you admitted that she loved him, Blue. Why wouldn't she say yes to somebody she loved?"
"She deserves so much better, Jay."
"That we can agree on."
He looked at you, and your eyes held tears.
"C'mon. Let's go get a drink."

The next morning, you groaned. Your head was pounding, and as you sat up, you felt the cool air kiss you naked skin.
Jason's arm was around your bare waist, and once you blinked away sleep, you could tell that he was naked, too.
You pushed his arm off you, and shook him awake.
"Ugh, did we-"
"Yeah. I think we did." He groaned.
"Not again..."
The two of you sat in silence.
"Thanks, Jaybird."
"No problem, Blue."
Now you could have your choice of men But I could never love again 'Cause you're the only one for me, Jolene
You sat at your table, and Jason set a cup of coffee down in front of you.
"You need to talk to her."
You scoffed.
"Little late for that, don't ya think?"
He raised an eyebrow.
"Do you want to tell her after she gets married?"
"There's something called keeping your shit to yourself."
He rolled his eyes, and then took a sip out of his mug.
"You and I both you that you are terrible at that."
"Oh really? Who kept her love for a certain redhead all to herself for years because she didn't want to ruin that redhead's happiness?"
Jason gave you a look.
"Bluejay. You need to slow down and think about your happiness for a second."
You looked down at your mug.
"Fine. I'll talk to her."
I had to have this talk with you My happiness depends on you And whatever you decide to do, Jolene
You sucked in a breath as a familiar ringtone echoed across your bedroom.
"Hey."
"Hey. Jason said you wanted to talk?"
"Yeah...Babs? I love you."
"I love you too, silly."
You sighed.
"Not...not like that. I love you, Barbara."
All you heard was silence.
"How long?" You hated that edge in her voice.
"Years. But Dick confessed before I could, and then I didn't want to ruin your happiness, so I just kept it to myself. I was gonna tell you, that night, but then Dick proposed and-"
"Why didn't you tell me earlier? Have you been faking our friendship the entire time because you loved me?"
"No, Babs, I swear! I still want to be friends...I didn't tell you earlier because I didn't want to ruin what you had. You looked so happy every time I saw you with him, and I love you too much to ruin that for you. You deserve to be happy, Barbara."
"But so do you!" The edge in her voice was gone, replaced by thick emotion.
You smiled sadly.
"You being happy is enough for me, babes."
You could hear her crying on the other end.
"Blue...I love you so much. I-I'm sorry I can't love you in that way, I'm sorry that I don't know how, I-"
"Babs. It's okay. Marry Dick, live a long life with him. If he makes you happy, then I'm happy."
You paused, and hovered your thumb over the red button before changing your mind.
"I love you, Babs. I always will."
"I love you too."
And you hung up.

She took one last glace at you.
You nodded.
Her happiness was enough for you.
She smiled at you, eyes full of tears and gratitude. Then she turned back to her fiance, who looked confused.
"I do."
"Then, if there are no objections?"
Barbara snuck a glance at you, but you just smiled sadly at her.
"Then with the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

1998 Birmingham - Number 22 - Dana International - "Diva"

Dana International taking to the stage in Birmingham to huge cheers with arms wide to receive them is one of the definitive images of Eurovision. A woman who had been staying in the only hotel in Birmingham with bullet-proof windows owing to death threats from reactionary, possessively patriarchal purists with no ability to manage their own disgust and a perverse desire to demonstrate their impotence in public.
She is the figurehead of representation in Eurovision. In 1998. All the way back then, a trans-woman can sashay to the front of the stage, with a huge grin, and tell the world that she's a diva. The diva. In 1998. Last year, 1997, was the first year an out, gay man performed at Eurovision and already Dana International is winning the whole shebang.
You have to admit this was a brave move by the IBA. There was no national selection competition in 1998, no Kdam. Dana International was internally selected, chosen by the organisation to represent them and the nation of Israel. Yes, she'd already had two hit, platinum albums in Israel, several hit singles and been named Best Female Artist of the year in 1994. She'd finished second at Kdam 1995 scoring points from every regional jury. Within Israel she was a star, so choosing Dana International was not a risk in that sense of picking someone without pedigree or talent. They were picking a star. But to have Dana International representing the country? They knew what the reaction was likely to be and it was them who would catch the flak.
Did I say this was all happening in 1998 yet?
Outside of the death threats and internal complaints within Israel, it's astounding just how instantly accepted she was by absolutely everyone else. She was definitely on the pages of the more traditional, red-topped and acid-texted papers. Yes, there was a subtext of disgust, but at this point, Dana International was to them a creature of fascination. An oddity they didn't understand and maybe one who would end up ridiculing Eurovision, something they absolutely loved to mock. To them Dana International was someone who fitted right in to Eurovision and it was Eurovision that was their target not her. She was perfect to flabber Terry Wogan's gast. A weapon for them to use rather than to abuse, for now at least.
Their mistake was not to realise that Eurovision didn't give a shit. Eurovision loves Dana International. He absolute Diva attitude, keeping Terry, Ulrika and Katrina waiting on stage for minutes after she'd won a hugely exciting three-way battle for Macedonia's final points to claim the win. Wearing the feathered frock by Jean-Paul Gaultier that she'd decided not to wear for the performance at the last minute, but felt she just had to put on to collect the trophy - which she never picked up - Dana International returned to the stage and instead of heading for Katrina to acknowledge the win, strode to the centre of the stage to acknowledge her audience.
Eurovision was proud of her. Glowingly ecstatic. It didn't matter if anyone tried to use her against the competition and all that it was increasingly openly representing. Eurovision owned every last morsel of the veiled criticisms and the feigned shock that followed. This was us and always would be.
Dana International's win has always been about who she is and what she means rather than the actual song she's singing. It's a club track, an easy floor-filler and an easy and joyous sing-along to celebrate women and their power. It doesn't matter a jot how musically complex or rich the song is, it does what it needs to do and it's been doing it ever since.
There is a woman who is larger than life There are senses that only she possesses There is magic and there are hard days And a stage that is all hers
