an #oopsie baby to parents in their early 40s. food is present on the table, he's wearing his sister's hand-me-downs until he's like nine. all in all, an ordinary family. a little bit of 'as long as we love each other we will make it' mentality.

family death tw within bullet point. old age takes a toll and daon's father passes after battling an illness. two long weeks later, his mother passes too, struck by severe grief over her late husband. given that he's sixteen, his sister dami becomes his guardian and he moves in with her, into an one bedroom apartment that's closer to her university.

for the most part, he's a quiet kid who tries avoiding situations that would trouble his sister. despite his (young) age he realizes that she's not his mom, she has her own life and that he doesn't want to be an additional burden to her; expenses are little, and daon spends most of his time either studying, reading or being on the 'puter. the type who'd lay on his futon and watch documentaries about a subject they're covering at school at the time... #nerd

university rolls around and unlike his sister who's a law girlie, he decides to go down the path of krn lang and literature! but his grades kinda suffer bc he also starts the employment era so the academically gifted teen turns into a mediocre man! skips out on classes a lot and fails to ✨network✨ though he graduates on time

for what.. employment era 2.0 but with a degree except it's the wrong degree in most people's opinions. works in some firm as proofreader . they move to a two bedroom apt and things are looking a little better!!! woah

but then his sister is like well my dearest bro... my boyf finally proposed and we got a bread in the oven... sry daon :/ and like the good brother he is, he again chooses to not be a burden n moves out. and he always has to get slapped twice so! he's also laid off. AI took his job </3

repeatedly down-scaling places he lives at until he's channeling yoon jongwoo and looking at a cheap goshiown, two steps away from a mental breakdown.

rental agency he's looking through, however, tells him they have an opening at the loop. the studio is rather nice for the money asked and he doesn't risk it, immediately signing the lease without a second thought. i imagine he tried to reach out for the person again but the agency was like what are u talking about. mysterious type of beat where he's confused but chooses not to question i, they will appear again sooner or later?? except they don!t

currently! been at the loop for a year. works as a teacher at a "nearby" hagwon (the teens present are just above middle class but not enough that they're rich; still, it doesn't stop them from channeling the same mean energy. and the pay is. well. not enough to warrant their meanness. yes he's getting mildly bullied by 17 year olds), probably on the 'puter as well trying to find some fiverr-type gigs for extra cash. jumpscared by reoccurring dreams from ten years ago, but also from his 'you're fired!' moments. blames it on working too much. thinks he should get a therapist or smth if only it wasn't so expensive. tripping out and popping paracetamols daily. he has absolutely nooo idea what's cooking up for him!!!

personality wise he's. well. timid. not soft spoken per se but you can tell there was never an angry man in the house with him. tries to avoid any kind of altercation, even when he knows he's in the right, because he doesn't want to deal with the consequences; physical, mental or financial. time is money type of mentality, hates sudden and out-of-nowhere plans because of budgeting; however, if you need a quick loan for something he will try and see what he can borrow. overall reliable and kind, mostly influenced by his sister raising him basically? unfortunately gets jealous of others easily, be it over their relationships or material possessions. internalizes literally everything possible and impossible. cancer sun cancer moon so. good luck

other tidbits is that his unit is literally constantly a mess from paperwork and other teaching material he prepares... please don't enter x needs glasses 24/7 because if you stand like ten meters away from him you're a blurry blob and he's squinting. v neat handwriting. can tie a cherry with his mouth. enjoys that indie type of movies that are like two hours and nothing happens but it's ✨aesthetic✨. will borrow you flour/eggs/milk if you knock and ask, even if it's like 3am. always says (an awkward) hi in the hallways even if there's no response. his everyday wear consists literally of just sweatpants and sweatshirts/oversized tees; if u look at him ud never guess he's a TEACHER... has multiple notebooks filled with poetry hidden somewhere around his unit back from hs/uni + bare bones book concepts he writes down and then grows to either hate or doesn't have the time to even give it a second glance :+) his creativity juice pitcher is empty and has been for yearss

he spent his whole shower standing there backtracking all his steps, from when he woke up to when he got home. after he got out he proceeded to stay in the bathroom and sit there for 25 minutes and 19 seconds scrolling through your messages to see if he had said something wrong trying to find a mood change for him to have to come home to a pouty partner. after finding nothing he sighed coming out of the bathroom and joins you for dinner. the dinner is silent, your peacefully eating but he pokes at his food not being able to get your sulky face out of his mind. he puts his fork down before looking at you “please tell me what i did” he said plainly trying to mask the fact that hes going to explode. you look at him and tilt your head confused, he picks up on your body language and speaks up again “i dont like seeing you pout, especially if it was something i did, did someone do something did i do something?”. he sees your face change when you realize what he was talking about “you never would believe what my mom did to me today…” you continued

he sighed out of relief realizing he didnt do anything and listened with a smile on his face enjoying his dinner.

Quite literally a 3AM thought but why do ppl never ever (or rarely) draw scars on giorno. I mean. A lot of ppl usually give fugo scars bc in phf he literally fucked himself up w the virus (poor retelling, I know), but he also got healed by golden experience (requiem (question mark) a while after, right? my art process has changed a bit since i last posted a step by step... i would say my ideation phase is still

seeing something that really makes me want to draw (ie alien stage round 6 or a really good gacha card (sorry) ) or forcing out thumbnails

go on my pinterest board of poses/colours from other artists i like for the general vibe (i reference a lot from my own photos as well, usually pics i take around my city/a lot of selfies taken from 0.5x angle LOL)

and then start the drawing. usually not a lot of thumbnailing..i would like to get better at that to explore more interesting compositions >_< also trying to flatten my art style a bit but i still go overboard with rendering extraneously oops

these days im also switching back to paint tool sai/csp on my pen tablet rather than procreate..i really dont like the blending engine sometimes and it makes it really difficult for me to motivate myself to paint there. i guess walking through a recent painting i like:

sketch on a colour bg ( usually this kind of decides the colour palette for the rest of the painting, building off of this main bg colour) (i erased some of it bc i was using it in the final painting ^^;;; it gets redrawn on top a little)

blocking the main foreground - sword, horse - just going from dark foreground > middle > background lightest as a frame of reference, having the least amount of detail at the right since i want the horse's hind legs to fade out in perspective

3. layer at a light opacity using a big brush to just suggest light/shadows (yellow at bottom right and around her face to complement and contrast the blue/purple)

4. render details (this is what gets me and i am very lazy and typically give up on a piece once we get here. working on it..)

5. yeah. done! outline some desaturated areas (horse hind legs) with a saturated colour found elsewhere in the painting (lighter colour of the bg) and then add final touchups on top of everything. my layers dont make sense. also i love using the fringe effect on sai to fake edges/lines (every layer has it. yay)

An analysis of Honor Bound- Death Note the musical

Context

First of all, the emotion and buildup to this song absolutely breaks my heart. Soichiro is shown to be a strong willed and moral person, who values ensuring that his family and those around him are the same- as seen in There are Lines and his constant opposition to L’s methods. Trying to understand that there is even a SLIGHT possibility of his own son being the monster kira was not a situation he was willing to consider. When faced with strong evidence of Light being Kira, he This song does a beautiful job of showing his realization in real time that there is a possibility that he does not know his own son, and beautifully shows how it affects him.

Lyrics

-“Any grounds for L’s suspicion surely lie with me. I must catch this monster Kira, so the world will see”

This poor man. He starts out the song still trying to deny this, trying to blame himself. The musical specifically in my opinion does really well in showing just how good of a father Soichiro was to Light. This lyric conveys his strong desire to take on the burden of clearing his son’s name, to prove his innocence no matter how impossible it is

-“My son is exactly who he seems to be: Honor bound and bound by honesty”

Obvious irony here- I won’t dwell on that. However, the different interpretations of this line are interesting. He could be saying this to someone who suspects Light of being Kira in an attempt to defend his son’s innocence and his reputation as his father. This would show how protective and family oriented he is, even with all odds against him. Or, this could be an internal monologue. If it is, the picture it paints is of very different colors. It would show his doubt versus his attempt to convince himself that there is no way he could have raised a murderer for a son. While these are up to interpretation, both meanings could possibly be true at the same time.

-“Accusations, innuendo, theories full of cracks, timelines, and coincidences can’t replace hard facts.”

Even more of his denial. Again, this is an obvious use of irony (this musical REALLY loves that lol). He’s willing to see the hard facts and call them coincidences and theories, while grasping on to the only view of his son that paints him innocent as truth.

-“But if what I’m seeing bends as light refracts, am I blinded to what my son lacks?”

Obsessed with this line. One of my favorite things ever is figurative language. He acknowledges that he may not be able to fully see every side of Light. due to his own personal refusal of the truth. At the same time, Light Yagami LITERALLY refracts. He bends and contorts himself and his words at every angle he is seen at in order to avoid suspicion. What Soichiro sees in his son becomes COMPLETELY different when Light is with L, and when he’s with the death note.

-“If I thought these lies were true, would I have the strength to do, anything I needed to for justice’ sake?”

If there’s anything this musical loves, it’s irony and justice. Death Note itself strongly questions the definition of justice and how it changes and means different things to different people. That’s like, the whole point. What we see in this line is a glimpse Soichiro’s view of justice. The viewer/listener is inclined to question exactly how far he is willing to go in punishing Kira for Justice. Does he have the strength to accept that he has raised a monster? The strength to arrest his own son? To kill him?

-“Could I stand the pain and lies if it’s Kira that I find behind Light’s eyes?”

As he goes further in the song, Soichiro begins finding it harder to deny that Light is Kira. Before he allows himself to believe it, he questions how this fact would affect him. He is unsure that he could mentally handle the weight of the “lies” turning out to be true. He knows that it would break him.

-“Let me see the son I need to see”

When I first heard this line while listening, I had thought it was “let me see the sun, I need to see”. Only on the second listen did I actually realize that is was more likely to be “son I need to see” and I misunderstood the intended affect. However, it’s fun for me to make meaning out of what should’ve just been a forgettable moment on my part. While this is likely not intentional, this line has a double meaning. Saying, “let me see the son I need to see” shows Soichiro as being more open to the truth, more willing to come to terms with the idea. Similarly “Let me see the sun, I need to see” also shows him as being more open to the truth. However, instead of focusing on the emotional acceptance it would convey him needing to see things more clearly, in better light. Although that would be an interesting parallel, the actual lyric is definitely more emotionally satisfying.

Conclusion

The song is Soichiro’s humanity. A humanity that his son could not fathom in his wildest dreams.

27th of october, making her double scorpio + capricorn for my astrology loving friends, born and raised in seoul!

both of her parents are accountants and both of them are the definition of tiger parents. as far as her memory goes and as busy as her parents were with their jobs, they've also always emphasized studying, reading and learning and she was already attending cram school when she was four — to which her mother said was already too late. she didn't have barbies or bratz dolls growing up, and instead, newest book about physics or chemistry would be placed on her table as a present.

and soon enough everyone learned that she's actually quite talented when it came to numbers. the go-to for teachers if no one else understands the equations, been in math clubs throughout her school years, even won a national competition once (though it didn't matter to her mom because yuri was still always second on the students' grades list in high school lol!!), with many diplomas collecting dust in cardboard boxes back in her childhood bedroom.

her life was genuinely boring compared to her peers': while many were experiencing first loves, karaoke bars and exploring their youths, yuri was literally just... studying lol! it was a bit overwhelming but the knowledge of how many hours your parents put into your education and the guilt of "i cant let them down" every time her spirits waned kind of """"helped""" her push through. thankfully she was never made to pick up an instrument because her breakdown would've come a lot sooner... additionally while she wasn't the #1 pick of students in terms of popularity (her being taller than some of her male classmates didn't really help), she was generally liked; she'd help tutor other students and help them out! she never had that stuck up aura around her due to her grades

never really complains about anything because every time she tries to she's hit with the "i don't have time right now sweetie" so she just. bottles everything up... which is still a coping mechanism to this day whoops

it all pays off though and miss girl gets a ticket to a dept of astrophysics at snu :) her parents couldn't be prouder and obviously it's thanks to their care and dedication that yuri is given this special once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and really they made so many sacrifices in the past years... they put in their blood, sweat and tears into her... someone pat them on the back quickly!!!

(never mind the fact yuri doesn't actually remember when was the last time she ate a homemade meal of her mother's... or father's)

to stop yapping about her past tl;dr: the continuous flow of expectations and pressure makes yuri crumble in her second year of studies. she tries to push through, but with the amount of classes she's skipping on purpose... she eventually... drops out >_< and is promptly... cut off. because how dare she repay her parents like this after everything!!! hasn't spoken to her mom in years though her dad does reach out to check if she's alive from time to time

she couch surfs for about six months while working part time jobs until a close friend tells her about gyeogang's apts and helps her out with rent when she moves in in late 2022.

has been working as a florist at a local flowershop since 2023 and the job is, in spite of its actual nature that can be hectic and sometimes clocking in over 12 hrs a day, quite calming to her!!! after everything she enjoys having her hands occupied like that and seeing what her hands actually make when it comes to bouquets.

personality wise yuri is quite timid, sometimes too much for her own good. she tries to avoid conflicts and arguments, empathetic to others' opinions and feelings, on the introverted side. will help out however she can. quite warm when you befriend her, the type of friend for life & the type of friend you can reach out to after years of no contact without that feelings of awkwardness lingering in air. holds petty grudges however and will also completely ignore you if you asked her re: her uni situation...

some other tidbits: — has a six month old orange tabby named minnie. she thought it's a girl for longest time so the name just stuck.... and yes she's a victim to orange cat shenanigans — her apt is filled with cat safe plants!!! ask her abt recommendations or cuttings and she's your gal — has a deep fear of tinder — cycles wherever she can!!! she has a little green bike with one of those baskets on the front — got all of her piercings on a whim — has a faceless youtube vlog she hasn't posted on in like nine months — says how she needs to cook more but always forgets to buy eggs so she lives off of delivery — the type to leave anonymous noise complains notes on community board instead of directly confronting lol...

i prefer brainstorming for plotting, or taking up other people's wanted plots as my brain is pea sized when it comes to offering ideas on the spot so i will be sliding into dms instead!!!

Under the Oak Tree has this special quality of somehow having no chemistry but having very interesting and compelling characters. It’s Riftan. Riftan is the issue. They want a historical series but they’re ignoring that the core appeal of a historical series is an easy meet cute of an arranged marriage, fancy social etiquette, and most importantly the fashion. Riftan isn’t a historical ML in the way people like it cause he’s not just a gentleman wearing historical inspired clothing and or armor, he’s genuinely a misogynist controlling man and I’m like 😭😟 spooky. It’s giving that one sentient gingerbread man book that was randomly set in like the Victorian era with an extremely abusive husband that’s NEVER warned about in most of the reviews.

Like you come into the series and see a FL who’s neglected and mistreated by her family and ur like dope, this is a trope since the founding fanfics of Wattpad. The trope is ex common but it’s like a Sold to One Direction kinda thing, it’s a core part of the history of modern writing. Angst is such a popular genre and people love whump, like it’s good. ITS COMMON BUT ITS GOOD. People love overdone tropes cause even if it’s done a lot it’s easy to do well. Under the Oak Tree does SO well with Maxi’s trauma and she feels like such a human character. But then Riftan is just like- The appeal of the whump is that someone comes in and comforts the person and saves them from their past life. Riftan fr just comes in picks her up without a word, no communication, no nothing, constantly angry at her because she’s fearful of him and had no idea about their engagement (despite knowing that her father hated him and wanted him dead, so there would’ve been no reason to give her hope that she’d be saved from her household by a man soon to die). He’s just not comforting or appealing outside of sex appeal and smut TT, like he literally isn’t around for the first like what? 80 chapters unless it’s getting mad at her, degrading her and telling her to just be a decoration, or smut. LIKE GIVE US SUBSTANCE. Than her distress with him all the time is so scary and unnerving TT , it literally feels like for the first 2 seasons that she’s literally just having a fawn response around him and that’s why she seems to handle his presence. Not to mention that entire arc where any time she’d try to talk to him and have a genuine conversation as partner, he’d just kiss her and shut her up which was SOOOO weird.

He’s just SOOOO. It’s so weird. They only seem to like being around after 100 chapters. AND EVEN THEN IN THE TRAVELING TO THE SEA ARC HES UNRIGHTFULLY RUDE RUDE TO HER. literally anyone who spent all of their time locked up inside and doing close to no movement besides walking around and collecting plants for close to a year would struggle with a journey like that. In fact Maxi was a whole trooper, I’ve spent a whole day on horseback before and I literally couldn’t walk the next day and I was aching for 2 after that.

The appeal of the angsty insecure protagonist with a past like that is that the new environment welcomes them with full acceptance and love. RIFTAN ISNT LOVING SHIT. HE LIKES THE IDEA OF MAXI AS A NOBLE LADY. Sure we’re likely gonna see a generic plotline later of ohhh I met you as a child and you changed meeeeeeee, forgive all my bad traits and how I hurt you let’s make out ~~~~ but NO???? I REFUSE TO TAKE THAT TBH. He causes her so much more distress and it feels like another “My Husband Who Hates Me Has Lost His Memories” , like just a female protagonist enduring extreme constant emotional distress and trauma at the hands of the male lead but we’re supposed to just support their romance because ohhhh he doesn’t know what he’s doing despite being a full adult with autonomy and the life exp and capabilities to understand his actionssss. Noooo support their romance even though he’s constantly putting her in bad situations and she’s never been as happy with him as she does with women she’s just met in that hour.

TLDR: I wish authors would stop being insane and making their status of in the closet everyone else’s issue in the historical genre. Like pls stop cooking up the most divine wlw then force feed us abusive comphet, I see you, please free yourself babe.
