I didn't like The Darkest Minds movie...

I know, I know. I'm the worst, but honestly, it was nothing like the book! They left out characters and events that may not make or break the first film but will destroy the others if they get made! So many things they left out seem small in the first book but are huge in the others... I just... ugh! I was so excited for this movie but it's just not good, the writing anyway. I do really love the actors! Except the one for Clancy, I could do with a new Clancy.

THE DARKEST MINDS (2018) Arrivant mille ans après la vague des succès des teen-blockbusters à la DIVERGENT (2014-20??) -qui finira sa tétralogie en série plutôt qu’en film tant c’est nul-, THE HUNGER GAMES (2012-2015) -aux promesses non tenues- ou encore THE MAZE RUNNER (2013-2018) -le seul valable, c’est au tour du roman éponyme d’Amanda Bracker de prendre la direction du grand écran, sont titre supplanté d’un “REBELLION” poussant les néophytes de la franchise à croire à un épisode en cours d’une saga déjà commencée. Thriller futuriste de S-F aux évidentes similarités avec les œuvres pré-citées, THE DARKEST MINDS nous présente un univers d’anticipation où les enfants voient naître en eux de superpouvoirs: menacés, les adultes récupèrent les gosses pour les emprisonner dans des camp de travail, où ils sont classés par couleur DE POUVOIR. Vert ça va, bleu aussi, jaune ça passe, mais tout ce qui est considéré comme orange ou rouge finit irrémédiablement décédé: sous couvert d’une histoire familiale tristounette où un porte-clés Gudetama a la place centrale, THE DARKEST MINDS nous présente une jeune héroïne noire -déjà vue dans HUNGER GAMES dans le rôle de Rue-, loin des standards caucasiens habituels. Une bonne idée effacée par la sexualisation de cette dernière, hésitante à rejoindre la mystérieuse Ligue -des adultes révoltés et protecteurs- ou bien ce quartet de potes en marge, une fois délivrée des griffes du méchant gouvernement. Avec son pouvoir sous-Jedi faisant office de fil directeur, et ses thématiques génériques mal tournées, THE DARKEST MINDS fait office de sous-franchise peu originale, au point d’en déterrer le détesté I AM NUMBER FOUR (2011), qui en comparaison passe pour de l’avant-gardisme de talent: seul point positif du long-métrage de Jennifer Yuh Nelson -qui a pourtant un vrai talent de réalisatrice-, ce rendu visuel efficace de l’”effacement de Ruby” de la mémoire des autres personnages, qui... est un peu une version enfumée du légendaire SNAP d’un certain THANOS! Clairement destiné aux jeunes pré-ados, THE DARKEST MINDS demeure à contrario un film sensé pour nos têtes blondes, plein d’émotion et de bons sentiments: pour les plus grands, choisissez BATTLE ROYALE (2000) au lieu de ce flop estival cuvée 2018.
