How do the Nolofinweans relate to the now-concubine and maybe-future-concubine Curufin and Celebrimbor?

Awkwardly.

Curufin spent the first week after Feanor’s death naked, blindfolded, and tied to Maedhros’s bed. Maedhros did a lot of breaking him in himself, but the coronation of a new king takes a lot of planning and meetings with council members and such. So the Nolofinweans got the chore of “switch out the plug in his ass for one that’s a different shape every hour so he doesn’t get used to it, I use him after lunch.” And given the degrading stuff Curufin has put them through, they’re willing if still not eager.

Once Curufin has been sufficiently trained he moves in with the other concubines. Nolo’s rooms are four small bedrooms around a central living room, which means with Turgon and Arehdel gone Curufin and Celebrimbor can move right in. This is for Maedhros’s convenience.

Nolo and Fingon are aware that none of this is Celebrimbor’s fault, but there’s nothing they can do about it. It’s Nolo rather Curufin who reassures him that everyone’s too terrified of the king to hurt him without permission. That would not have occurred to Curufin as a pleasant thought, but Nolo has raised three children under these circumstances.

When Celebrimbor is almost of age, Curuifn knocks on Nolo’s bedroom door. For parenting advice when your kid is about to get raped and you’re not going to save them.

Damian, still fresh to the family, but actually starting to warm up to the idea of them actually being his family, looks up online 'how to be a good little brother.'

He finds all sorts of things like, "using cuteness to get what you want from your elder siblings" (lame, no way that works) "fake extra tears when they punch you so your parents buy you icecream and whatever else you want" (why on EARTH would he want anyone think he could be so weak?) etc, but he also sees stuff about Pranks, sibling fights (in the sense of "you know they're real siblings because they'll throw hands one minute, then 5 minutes later be laughing watching tv together like nothing happened"), and concepts like Sibling Code (like, absolute secrecy between siblings toward their parents, threatening potential heartbreakers, etc).

Cue him pulling pranks, like leaving lego everywhere and waiting for his shoeless family to step on them, hiding things that the others need (like, right now), sneaking things into the batcave that shouldn't be in the batcave, throwing himself at his siblings to brawl without any reason and then promptly stopping also with no reason (and wondering why they won't spend time with him to bond afterward), planning out how to threaten a literal magic space princess (Kori, who would probably find it very cute if he actually made it that far), hiding Literally Very Important information about his siblings from Bruce and Alfred because he's not a snitch, and he is a great little brother. (he's going to get an A in Little Brother which is something totally normal to want and achieve)

He eventually gets BIG scolded for his constant misbehaviour, though. Bruce and Dick are asking why he's going off the rails so much when he doesn't even seem particularly angry anymore - in fact, sometimes he even seems fairly content! Is there an issue they're unaware of? Something he's not expressing to the family? They're not mad if there's a problem, they just want to help!

So, of course, he then has to embarrassingly explain that he was just following little brother protocol, according to.. the internet. He gets bullied about it for weeks by his elders (to different degrees), since the internet is not going to help anyone be a better sibling, but they also each try to explain (in their own ways) (their own waynes) why he was so, so very wrong about the way he approached being a good sibling, so he can hopefully improve at it (and stop terrorising the household).

(I saw a meme post about Damian putting legos all over the floor + hiding Tim's shoes to harm him and it made me think of the concept)

(Also once he learns that acting extra cute really can get him what he wants, he tries to use it now and then to his advantage, but is hilariously bad at doing it, since he doesn't really have a grasp on what makes a younger sibling cute (which is.... literally just existing,, according to me, a middle child). Lucky for him the others eat up every attempt because it's so obvious what he's doing that it becomes cute to them, so he doesn't need to get real practice with it until he tries to use it on a non-bat who laughs at him for far too long about it and thusly brews fire in him to go back to the pranks he tried at the start of the little brother training montage and show them real sibling pain for making a fool of him.)

My most controversial DC opinion that you cannot make me budge on is if you don’t understand Dick Grayson you cannot on a very fundamental level understand Bruce, Jason, Tim, or Damian and if your understanding of him is flawed? Or rooted in fanon? Your understanding of them is too.

"You ruined it!" Damian shouts, and then hates the drop of guilt that forces his blood from his face. It's true, and it's real, and it's Tim's fault that his Father returned, but it's not fair to say it was ruined, how could he have ruined something Damian had waited his whole life for-

But his father had been overbearing. Had been stern, quiet, and demanding, with no clear goals for Damian to exceed. But his father had been disappointed in him, had pulled away during the first few awkward attempts Damian had made to find common ground, and it - this - felt like a fracture in a wound he had never noticed.

But Damian had waited his whole life for his father's love, and his father had not been the one to give it to him.

Timothy stares at him with confusion and frustration warring in his gaze, an exasperated edge to his tone when he says, “Look, baby brat, I'm allowed to join you and B for dinner.”

It was with baited breath that the people of Gotham waited for Bruce's curse; with parents such as his, with a silver spoon and want for nothing, it would be strong but lovely. What price would stand in the way of another Wayne patriarch improving the city, and how often could Bruce pay it?

There was no question of if he would; you always had to, no matter what, and what Wayne would hold back from serving Gotham?

And then there was the murder.

The lovely string of fake pearls scattered along the streets of Park Row, and Bruce Wayne, too young, huddled insensate over his parents' bodies. By the time the police arrived, they were long dead, and the blood had soaked into Bruce's pants.

It was a spectacle when Gordon and Pennyworth helped him to his feet, for that was when they thought that the last Wayne had been injured too, blood blooming over his chest and dripping down his arms, and the pictures of Bruce's curse and Alfred Pennyworth were front news for the next week.

What an irony, they whispered, when the news came out, that she would have served him better alive then dead.

What an irony, that Thomas' curse had been twisted so much, in the tragedy, that Bruce's bleeding heart became reality.

It had been hard to get news of the Wayne heir after that; the pictures of him could be constituted as gore, sometimes, with the way blood would seep through any fabric he wore, and no-one in Gotham was truly comfortable with the fact that their city's most prominent figure was now the child that had seen his parents die. They were just curses - but this one felt pointed, felt sad, and while it was never easy to live with a Gotham curse, at least the fridge having teeth was a silly story to share with friends, in comparison to the constant tragedy Bruce Wayne wore.

It was almost a relief when he vanished. Even more so when, upon his return, the bleeding had eased - and Bruce had taken to wearing red undershirts under his suits, well-disguising his bleeding heart.

Alfred Pennyworth never told anyone about the blood trails through Wayne Manor, which had not abated in the intervening years, nor did he talk about what did eventually ease Bruce Wayne's curse.

After all - everyone knew you had to pay the price of your curse, and no Wayne would hold back from serving Gotham.

Fun read, I loved reading about all the different, crazy worldbuilding happening in this book! Only issue I have is that the 'elves' were maybe dipicted as a little too perfect, or just completely oblivious to the horros/misfortunes they are partially responsible for. I'm not sure which is which.

Raewyn and Merikh are an interesting pair, and I feel like I had finally settled into a groove with their relationship near the end of the story.

I'm excited to see where the story continues!

Overly Simplified Summary

Raewyn wants to return to her home in the fae realm, and Merikh wants to leave Earth behind to start a new life where he isn't treated like a monster. With the same interests at heart, the pair journey together.

Things Bruce will not be taking well in IWCTW:

His son who he’s barely on speaking terms with calling out of the blue, insinuating they’re both in on a secret, and then audibly changing tracks when it becomes clear Bruce has no idea what he’s talking about. (Dick can hide his alarm, but the deflection? Not so much. Not when Bruce is surprised/confused enough to be listening for any hint as to what’s going on.)

Dick swinging by the manor just a day later, being shockingly non-confrontational, refusing to go on patrol, searching the whole place top-to-bottom while Bruce is on patrol, then picking a fight and bailing immediately after breakfast. (Bruce taught you the “If I Make Myself Unpleasant, They’ll Be Too Relieved I’m Gone To Question It” deflection, Dick.)

Dick spending several days searching the most dangerous parts of the city all on his own, mostly in civvies (undercover street-clothes style, but still civilian-wear.)

Dick calling to say he’s going to be staying in Gotham for a while for a case, saying he wants permission to do his own patrols in-costume, then picking a fight to avoid staying in the manor. (Once again, Bruce taught you that deflection, Dick!)

There’s someone else??? Living??? In Dick’s Gotham apartment with him??? Feminine blonde, prepubescent in appearance (about 11?), flat affect, matches absolutely none of Dick’s known associates (or past associates.) Does match a victim Dick talked down from a roof about a month ago, but only in the vaguest terms (no good camera angles, only solid information on suspected victim: small blonde with long hair.)

Did Dick adopt a kid??? Without telling Bruce?!?!? Dick’s only 18, he’s too young to adopt a kid! Bruce asked Alfred, and Alfred agreed. (Alfred also said something about role models, the distance fruit falls from trees, and Dick always striving to exceed the standards Bruce sets for himself, but Bruce is ignoring that part, thank you very much.)

Alternatively: Dick has a soft heart. It would be easy for some malicious actor (a shapeshifter, or a mind-manipulator, or some combination thereof,) to sneak past his defenses disguised as a child. But what do they want from Dick? What are they aiming for? What are they doing to Bruce’s son?!?

(Yeah, Bruce ain’t gonna take the bedsharing very well when he finds out about that either. Or Steph’s overnight change of personality, once he finally gets an ID on her and can dig into her history. Right around the same time Dick started acting weird too, huh? No way that’s a coincidence.)

Probable conclusion: Some kind of parasitic symbiotic relationship, possibly some kind of spirit or alien possessing the child, trying to manipulate Dick.

thinking about how night/wing knows that rose can take care of herself, of course, but the moment they are reunited after any crazy and dangerous encounter, he’s full of worry and relief and holding her so tightly it almost feels like he’ll never let go again- as if her body against his and feeling her warmth is the only thing he needs to keep him grounded.

Something something Bruce being raised by his butler, who is inherently a class below him and technically his employee, and therefore cannot be perceived as a parent, and how this effects his perception of raising children who are not biologically his. Something something Bruce not wanting to adopt Dick, because Bruce could never allow himself to think of Alfred as a parent, and therefore clung more to his grief and reverence for his parents. Something about Bruce assuming that Dick would feel this same way about him, because he cannot acknowledge the classism around his emotional distance from Alfred as a father figure, and therefore believing wholeheartedly that no one can ever truly take the place of biological parents, and that the only way to handle grief is the way that Bruce has handled his. Something about how by the time Bruce actually tries to unlearn his internalized classism and privilege, he is already an adult who values his independence and competence so much that he still cannot allow himself to see Alfred as a father. Something about even though he eventual does refer to his kids as his children, he still maintains the distance of being secondary to their birth parents, because if he allows himself to overstep, he risks devaluing his own parents, which he cannot do.

Something about how this is why he loves Jason (pre-death) and Cass so differently. Because their parents are not Good, and therefore cannot be revered, and therefore Bruce can love them without overstepping, because there is nothing to overstep. Something about how the way he perceives Jason's parents is also influenced by classism. Something about how he buried Jason next to his biological mother. Something about how not only was he grieving Jason's death, he was also grieving the loss of the relationship that he subconsciously allowed himself to have with Jason. Because now there is another biological parent, who he doesn't necessarily know how she hurt Jason. Something about how Bruce doesn't allow himself to grieve his child, because he cannot let himself think of Jason as his anymore. Something about how he doesn't tell Dick about Jason dying, because how do you tell your not-child that the child Bruce saw as truly his, is no longer his. That his child is dead, and not his child.

Something about how Bruce can never fix any of this, can never stop thinking like this, because to do so would mean that he no longer has an excuse to have grieved his parents the way he did, the way he still does.

Honestly, was more here because I adored our leading lady so much, alongside the colorful side characters. What her and our leading man have is nice, but I was honestly focusing more on the story, worldbuilding, and not the romance.

Not saying these two don't have chemistry, they do, I was just more invested in what Katrina was doing and how she was navigating everything.

Overly Simplified Summary

A thief breaks into a dragon's house/horde and gets accidentally pregnant after a one-night stand helping him with his heat. Aftermath is the two trying to navigate this bizarre situation they've found themselves in.
