This was a marriage that convulsed not just a nation, but a whole continent.
Drawing on new archival documents, startling artefactual discoveries and reinterpretations of long-misunderstood sources, John Guy and Julia Fox unearth the truth of these two extraordinary lives and their tumultuous times. They pay particular attention to the formative years Anne spent in the French courts while Henry learned how to be king among English courtiers – and dispel any lingering assumptions that a sixteenth-century woman, even a queen, could exert little to no influence on the politics and beliefs of a patriarchal society [...] a sumptuous retelling of one of the most consequential marriages in history and a startling portrait of love, lust, politics and power.
+
By closely examining the most recent archival discoveries, and peeling back layers of historical myth and misinterpretation and distortion, Guy and Fox are able to set Anne and Henry's tragic relationship against the major international events of the time, and integrate and reinterpret sources hidden in plain sight or simply misunderstood. Among other things, they dispel lingering and latently misogynistic assumptions about Anne which anachronistically presumed that a sixteenth-century woman, even a queen, could exert little to no influence on the politics and beliefs of a patriarchal society. They reveal how, in fact, Anne was a shrewd, if ruthless, politician in her own right, a woman who steered Henry and his policies, often against the advice he received from his male advisers--and whom Henry seriously contemplated making joint sovereign.
Hunting the Falcon sets the facts-and some completely new finds-into a far wider frame, providing an appreciation of this misunderstood and underestimated woman. It explores how Anne organized her "side" of the royal court on novel and (in male eyes) subversive lines compared to her queenly predecessors, adopting instead French protocol by which the sexes mingled freely in her private chambers. Men could share in the women's often sexually charged courtly "pastimes" and had liberal access to Anne, and she to them--encounters from which she gained much of her political intelligence and extended her authority, and which also sowed the seeds of her own downfall.

[After they talk about Pac's debt to the Pancake Mafia, and Pac warns her about Sir Reaper]
Bagi: I think you're the one that needs to be careful, because soon you might lose your other leg.
Pac: N-no! NO! Please don't! Stop- stop! STOP TALKING LIKE YOUR BROTHER!
Bagi: [Laughs]
Pac: I'll pay you– I'm going to pay you!

I want to give a MASSIVE thank you to @wasabi-ribs, who was kind enough to check my translations and help me with the parts I missed (and also reviewed the final subtitled video)!

Bagi: Pac, pay the rent!
Pac: I'm going to pay! Hey- I'm going to pay right this second, the money that I owe you, and... and I'm- I'm serious! And look, if you want- if you have more money... If I pay your 4,500, will you lend me 4,500? No, then I'll actually drown in fees. [Laughs]
Bagi: [Laughs] I'll lend you, I'll lend you
Pac: No, not really Bagi. You've got those red eyes– I'm scared, Bagi. I don't know– I don't know what happened, actually it's an eye infection, I know– But something tells me it's not just an eye infection, that it's also some other things, you know? Like, um... y'know, right? [He fumbles again] Oh God wait, your brother– when he had those red eyes he would also turn evil. Nonononono– I'll pay you, ok? Where's the waystone? It's here, it's here, it's here– I'll pay you, ok? I'll pay the 4,500- we're gonna–
Bagi: I'll be waiting.
Pac: No no, oh- just– Just let me walk, my God, I love walking– OH, WALKING IS SO GOOD – [Pac teleports] I'll pay her.
[Bagi follows him moments after]
Pac: [Pac mumbles to himself as he begins transferring money to Bagi] 4,500... I need to pay her 4,500...
Bagi: [Sneaks up on him] Oh, perfect!
Pac: [SCREAMS]

one of the lil english dub quirks is that whenever zoro asks luffy what he wants to do and luffy replies, it consistently changes whatever zoro says (at least compared to the subtitles) to "I had a feeling you'd say that"

Someone just commented on one of my SV posts saying the official translation is so much worse than the fan one on bc novels but . The official translation was done by the same fan translators as before. Faelicy and Lily were two of the main original translators from the bc novels fantls . They did both .

I know everyone is excited for Fantasy High to get the new d20 production treatment with Junior Year (and believe me, I am too, especially excited for having a full opening credits song and animation!)
But while I'm rewatching the last section of FHSY before the new season starts, I'm remembering how much I love having all 7 of them on screen at the same time. I love being able to watch the players react to Brennan's descriptions, watching Brennan react to their wonderful character interactions and awesome combat strategies, love being able to see the players joking across the table, checking notes and planning moves with each other. Not a bad thing at all, change is good and there's pros and cons to everything!
Ultimately I think it's special that we have a campaign in d20 that has lived through so many different formats! Classic fire hazard dome with the block colours, live stream, pandemic stream, and full dome projections!

[Image description: A digital painting based on the film Ladrones de tumbas. It depicts the character Armando laying in sheets as his guts ooze out of a large hole in his stomach. The blood travels up to his face which is turned to the side in anguish. One of his hands lays near his face. As the gits drip down they transition into a bright red pile of abstract circles and some other shapes. In this pile there are the words "el tesoro". The colours used for the piece are mostly blues with reds for the gore and some purple and greens mixed in. The rest of the piece is a dark void.]

people keep adding more stuff to that "media to go into blind" post that i love and really do think people should watch with 0 information beyond that the show rules and goes some crazy places. I CANNOT RECOMMEND ODD TAXI ENOUGH... even if you don't watch anime, actually especially if you don't watch it. it's a super satisfying offbeat crime drama! insanely good!!

not particularly liking it when the subtitles on d20 get fancy with describing sounds makes me feel like such a buzzkill but also. subtitles should be accessible to the people who get the most use out of subtitles actually and some of these words and phrases are getting so fucking complicated
