Managed to find a very brief little trailer for the play The Father

There is some so insanely heartbreaking to me about Jonathan Sims and the way the statements were recorded. They were all originally handwritten which is such a very human thing, using your own flesh and blood write something down, just the amount of effort and emotion that goes into that. And then Jon had to digitize them using a tape recorder, definitely a lot less human as it’s now batteries and tape but still human enough since it’s using his voice. And now he’s fully inhuman, robotic, stuck in a computer, where there used to be blood and skin and bone there is now plastic and wires and a screen.

I’m currently studying funeral services and in my embalming textbook it talks about how one woman phrased it like “a dead body is an object, but it is an object unlike any other object, cannot be like any other object, because this object used to be alive” and I really like that, it feels comforting, it feels human. Jon doesn’t get this though, he was terrified of being inhuman and he doesn’t even get to be human in this “somewhere else” he doesn’t get to be an object that used to be alive, he is just an object, like a pencil that wrote down the original statements, or the tape recorder that used to record them, and now the computer.

when i say i got picked on in school for being short, i dont mean the 'uwu im so short and small leave me alone!!!' i mean they put me in the (small, classroom) recycling bin and would tell me to stay put and wait and see until how long it took for the teacher to notice i was missing. Or under the art shelves. At one point I got hoisted up into the rafters and halfway hung through the cieling tiles because it was too high for me to jump down. I got suddenly picked up by people i didnt know pretty often

But I also got to crawl into the professor's podium's top shelf to take a nap inbetween classes without being uncomfortable or seen so it kinda worked out

actually I think that neil josten is very smart. he’s quick, clever, and a MATH nerd. he’s a polyglot! he keeps decently good grades despite having a VERY unstable schooling. he knows how to manipulate people to get information/people to do what he wants. he’s incredibly observant and is able to predict what the people around him are going to do. he’s so so smart

and he’ll throw all those braincells out the window when he’s with his bestie, matthew donavan boyd

love love the intentional aspect of the trust, loyalty and devotion that's shared between luffy and zoro. as much as fate has come into play in the story, agency and choices are so important too and these two have 20+ years worth of publication in terms of how their relationship's been structured and built along those years and it's fascinating, truly.

I know there's mixed opinions on whiskey peak, for example, but I like that it happened precisely before major arcs such as alabasta, jaya-skypiea and water 7-enies lobby in which luffy actively chose to trust zoro - with saving smoker, during the confrontation against bellamy's crew, with nami robin and chopper, with zoro's assessment of robin's situation and later usopp's comeback to the crew. because luffy has been plenty made aware that the straw hats' well-being and safety is something zoro greatly prioritizes and watches out for. thriller bark also wasn't a random or blind decision made by zoro, it was the result of all the love/loyalty/devotion he's come to feel for luffy and the crew throughout their journey, especially luffy who's proved time and time again that he's a man worth following and given zoro so much in turn (a home, friends to care for and who care for him too, adventure, someone who completely believes in and respects both zoro and his dream, a reason to keep fighting and getting stronger for etc etc).

idk. it's just so deliberate in a way I find compelling. every single time luffy places himself or the crew, their allies or just civilians under zoro's protection that's a choice, one with so much weight and context behind it. when zoro says stuff like "there'd be no point in me being pirate if not on this ship", no matter how casually he does it, that's the kind of thing that highlights how he continually chooses to remain by luffy and the crew's side, for similar reasons. really good stuff.
