Buwan Brainrot dump: How I personally headcanon Leo to take the "it's not about you" line
note: again, personal headcanon, I'm info-dumping, and I'm projecting so hard
So, Rise of theTMNT Leonardo "I'm nothing without them" Hamato.
The simplest way I can describe this boy is: "It's either 0 or 200, no in-between lmao" (Spoiler alert: no, there are so many in-betweens)
Throughout the series and the movie: I believe Leo does have confidence and genuine belief in his own abilities, but has deep insecurities and feelings of inadequacy when doesn't fulfill those self-expectations.
He tends to put himself on the offense, putting himself at the danger head-on. He thinks that he can do things on his own, more so— that he should be able to do things on his own— So when he either doesn't or he really just can't, it itches at that insecurity. Sometimes that acts as a drive.
He's strategic and analytic, but he can still be impulsive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't think Leo hates himself, but I don't think he necessarily likes himself either. He sees the value in himself, but he doesn't feel high value in himself. Regardless of the scenerio, his mindset is:
He has to do good
I feel like Leo was getting more assurance of his place with the rest of his team. His siblings. But then, he became leader. That kind of complicated things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do think, as a 16 year old who just went through one of the worst "wake-up calls" he could've ever gone through, that phrase may have settled in a skewed version of its original message.
"It's not about you" is a very vague phrase. Yet, it's most likely to mean:
It's more than what you provide on an individual level
This situation is more than just a test of your value
You are part of a team and "leader" doesn't change that
It's about all of us
You don't have to do this alone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think he understood part of that for sure.
However, "It's not about you" especially after learning that a mistake you made butterfly-effected its way to the lives of everyone you care about dying? The whole world? Innocents? After seeing what happened to Raph, after CJ's confrontation, after getting trapped by Kraang, after fighting Kraangified Raph, after the Kraang took away their ninpō in a snap—
Some people may take the original message in its entirety. But some won't.
When I was Leo's age in the movie (not that long ago mind you— I'm only 19!), I definitely wouldn't have. Because for some reason, some brains really like doing that.
I would
Leo's mind could interpret it as
"I do not matter and I nothing I do should be for the sake of me. Got it! :)"
Anyways, again, that's just my headcanon. Might be OOC. I'm gonna actually sleep because I didn't last night. BYYYYYEEEEE
This was sparked by my brother who sent an anon and I just decided to make it a separate post

the peculiar intersections of plurality and fictionkinity
having been inspired by the discussions at the currently ongoing convention, i decided to clean up and post this ramble that's been sitting in my drafts for a while.
i don't usually talk about systemhood publicly, but i had an interesting experience some time ago that i thought might be worth sharing.
~400-500 words
once upon a few years ago, there was a fictive who occupied the host position of my collective. however, after a series of complicated internal developments, this fictive merged into the primordial identity soup, also known as me!
that fictivity and the relevant source material is still a part of me. i wouldn't be who i am now without it. but i view it in a similar fashion to how one might view a kintype they had in youth, and later grew out of as they learned more about themselves and who they really are.
fast forward to late 2022. i was watching a new show, and one of the characters struck me as uncomfortably familiar. i felt like i was looking at myself; specifically, the self i thought i had discarded like shed skin several years ago. i couldn't shake the feeling that this character was me, in a way that not even i was me anymore. i reacted by sweeping it all under a rug (which, spoiler, never works), until last month i finally felt bold enough to try and confront it.
to paraphrase what i said to @/contractbound when i was confiding in him about it: "its as if the me that identifies with [my fictive self] has a kintype of [the character i'm questioning]. and since that's still technically me, i still feel that connection. i still recognize [that character] as me. but with, like, a degree of separation due to the fact i don't really identify with the fictive part of myself anymore." like some kind of kintype once removed, or something.
he responded with my new favourite way to describe the situation; "it's like, that's you, but also not you, because you is not you." he also called it "the lacroix of being 'kin". i really don't think i can explain it better than that lmao
since then, although acceptance has been slow-going thanks to the complicated nature of…whatever this is, i am at least learning to give it a spot at the table rather than beat it with sticks. part of why i'm writing this is in the hopes that getting it into the open will help the process along, and maybe even reach anyone who may be in a similar situation.
if you, too, have been sipping the fictionkin lacroix, just know you aren't alone.

A List of References in Keep Your Enemies Close (Wait, Not That Close)
Since it’s somehow been a year since I posted KYEC (to the warmest reception I’ve ever gotten from a fic!! Seriously y’all are the best—I can’t believe I’m still getting comments a year after publication), I compiled a complete (as far as I can remember, at least) list of all of the references (with a few explanations about my writing choices) within the fic for funsies (and also bc I put Way Too Much effort into melding all of these elements together and wanted a full list of all the things I put together that were not intended to be put together lmao)
Oh, and if it wasn’t obvious… spoilers for the fic lol — if you haven't read it but are interested in what the heck I'm talking about, it's here on ao3!
(I’m just calling every segment separated by a line break a scene even though some of them aren’t reallyyy an actual scene for the sake of clarity)
Scene 1:
One line in and I’ve already name-dropped the Watchers: not much to say about them at this point since it’s pretty much the usual “godly beings that resemble indigo biblically-accurate angels that watch people.” All I really added here was the threads of Fate mention that’ll become relevant later
Scene 3:
Grian-proof vault: this one’s a double reference! The obvious one is from Season 9 (Grian’s ep 10) where Mumbo challenges Grian to get into his vault without breaking blocks and it turns out to be a decoy vault, but the second one is from Season 6 (Grian ep 100), where Grian, Bdubs, and Iskall (as the Dragon Bros) break into Mumbo’s vault to induct him into the cult club by guessing the code to be 1-2-3-4 (the “I didn’t plan for someone to come in and start jamming codes in” and KYEC!Grian’s response, “It was the second thing I tried” are reworded from their follow-up convo about it in the next episode)
KYEC!Grian’s stolen diamonds: okay I’m pretty sure this Season 6 arc started in Grian’s ep 73, where he mentions for the first time that his diamonds have “mysteriously gone missing” — KYEC!Grian’s got the same problem, only most of his diamonds are accidentally stolen and are causing more problems than economic deficits lol → we’ll get to the completion of this arc wayyy later, but this was the very first plot point to fall into place for this fic
Detective Grian: going even farther back into Season 6, we have the Sherlock Grian arc (begins in Grian’s ep 56) — once again, we’ll get back to this one
Fun fact: the moment where KYEC!Grian’s “skin prickled with the distinct sensation that someone was watching, waiting for him to do something” was meant to be foreshadowing that would become obvious at the end bc I originally planned to have KYEC!Grian’s time traveling be onscreen — that scene was meant to show Future Grian traveling to the past to steal his diamonds, but getting the timing slightly off so he was still in the apartment when this convo takes place, and is therefore the mysterious watcher mentioned here; I didn’t end up writing out that scene, though so now it just looks like another surface level Watcher reference
Scene 4:
KYEC!Grian’s powers: the wings don’t require explanation but here’s my rationale for the “perspective-shifting” (which, lemme tell you was cool in theory but SO annoying to figure out what to call/describe) → it’s basically just being able to go into F5 mode (the range limit for him is basically that he can move what I’ll call his mental camera to any point provided that at all times, his body is visible to the mental camera from some angle, i.e. he can’t see into the next room if there are no doors/windows but he can see around corners and objects); this power’s another Watcher parallel but also a contrast to Scar’s in that it’s good for revealing “the truth” while Scar’s power is deceptive in nature
Scene 5:
Hotguy!: fun fact, I actually started writing this fic before I knew about Scar’s Hotguy persona (I was grievously behind on Season 9 when I started this fic in mid 2022) so KYEC!Scar’s original hero name was Goodfellow and he used a staff, not a bow — but obviously, I swapped it to fit the Hotguy we all know and love (and for the sake of keeping track of episode references, I’m naming Scar’s Season 9 ep 5 as the first Hotguy mention in canon, don’t @ me if I’m wrong lol)
KYEC!Scar’s powers: alright, here’s a lil secret, there’s actually smth going on with his bow that never gets brought up in this fic and that I will be keeping secret bc I may or may have smth in the works. I can, however, talk about his illusions! While KYEC!Grian’s power lets him change how he sees things, KYEC!Scar’s lets him change what other people see. The illusions are also a nod at Scar’s terraforming + building skills since he can create intricate landscapes
Xelqua (as KYEC!Grian’s villain name): other ideas for KYEC!Grian’s villain name included Poultry Man + Watcher but I settled on Xelqua since it’s commonly associated with Watcher!Grian but feels more like a name than just plain Watcher, and then afterwards, I developed the actual Xelqua lore
Xelqua (the lore one): obviously we have the nod at our tried and tested fanon “he was only meant to watch” but the mention of him “engineer[ing] countless games… with gods and men alike” is a blink and you’ll miss it Life series reference (I suppose it could also be a reference any of Grian’s other minigames but the Life series was what I had in mind lol) → also, the whole “Ultimately, the Watchers located Xelqua after he succumbed to his nature and began stirring up trouble again” bit of lore was just me riffing off that fable about the frog and the scorpion, which traumatized me as a kid and therefore lives in my brain rent-free
Scene 6:
Harmless pranks: rapidfire references, let’s go! “a bit of ‘misplaced copper’” = Mumbo’s copper “lagging” into Grian’s inventory (Grian Season 8 ep 13), “a few disappearing doors” = Grian being a chronic door thief (...pretty much all of Season 7), “a few chests filled with eggs” = Grian + his quest to clog up his messaging system with Mumbo (Grian Season 6 ep 22 + many, many more instances)
Scene 7:
Roofed forest: very, very random but I did write this scene with Scar’s first Third Life episode in the background and was imagining the roofed forest he and Grian decimated as the scene he projects here
Also, I need you to know this fight scene was fully rewritten at least four times ;-;
Scene 9:
Mumbo unlocking Grian’s handcuffs: this wasn’t a reference when I wrote the fic but now it’s a reference to the Mumbo side fic I wrote for this au that writes out this scene
Scene 11:
KYEC!Grian’s comment: “I was broke and in need of a flatmate so he could’ve been an arsonist for all I cared, as long as he didn’t touch my stuff” → can I just cite all of the Life series here
Okay, I SWEAR the line, “You watch, Mumbo, I’ll be so subtle that you’ll forget I’m a supervillain” was based on an actual Grian line (or several) that start the same way but I can’t remember where it’s from
Scene 13:
More stolen diamonds: here’s the unofficial start of the Jangler plot lol — the moment this fic’s foundation really “clicked” for me was when I noticed mysterious diamond thievery appeared in both the time travel arc and the Jangler arc, and I was like “I can work with that”
Jellie: I want you to know the staging of this scene was specifically so I could have a reversal of the “villain stroking a cat while scheming” trope where Scar is a) wanting to do a good deed not a villainous one and b) basically getting a plan fed to him
Scene 14:
Okay pretty much this scene’s basically the transcribed version of a scene from Grian’s Season 6 ep 56 lmao but ig I’ll just talk more about how I thought to include the Jangler plot in the first place; originally, the premise of this fic was adapted from an abandoned non-MCYT fic draft I had floating around in my WIP folder, where the two characters were university dormmates who were unknowingly also vigilante partners + there was a whole Miraculous Ladybug style love square going on (on second thought, I was basically just making MLB with vigilantes lmao). When I got the idea to adapt it to a Desert Duo-centric superhero trying to catch supervillain fic, I wanted to make it platonic since most of the superhero aus I’ve read for the pair are romantic and I wanted to do smth different — the problem was that getting rid of the romance also got rid of a lot of the tension between the characters, so I needed smth to replace it — hence the detective/Jangler dynamic being included to make sure both characters were actively hiding a secret from the other at all times
Scene 16:
This is probably a little obvious on second read but I did leave a comment to myself on one of my draft docs pointing out that KYEC!Scar decided to continue going out as the Jangler (even though he’d already technically fulfilled the returning diamonds thing he’d invented the persona for) because he overheard Grian talking about how he’d prefer to have more to work on + would get money from it
Scene 18:
Attempted murder: back on the Season 6 reference train we go! This is from Grian’s ep 12 where he pranks an AFK Jevin by putting him on a flying machine and the game glitches and sends Jevin falling to his death
Scene 20:
The foreshadowing here is very obvious but this scene was a last minute addition I did not plan to include but was compelled to write bc I needed something to lighten the mood a bit since it was getting too serious and also bc I wanted to include the “sweet job” pun. Yes, I know it’s terrible. Yes, I laugh at it every time.
Scene 21 + 22:
Cookie trail: here’s another “mostly transcribed” scene from Grian’s Season 6 ep 57 — I ran into a little problem logistically since flying isn’t the norm in this world but is in Hermitcraft, so I had to shove in the whole “flying machine to reach the top of the cookie” thing lmao
KYEC!Stress: she does not make an appearance but I gave her ice powers bc of her ice castle base in Season 6
Scene 24:
This entire scene is just Desert Duo dancing around each other trying to keep their secret identities secret but KYEC!Scar’s comment, “I always forget what information’s public” is a bit of irony that made me laugh while writing bc it comes straight after he accidentally reveals he knows where the cookie was
Scene 25–28:
Hitman after KYEC!Grian: yep this goes back to Grian’s Season 6 ep 14 where Jevin puts out a hit on Grian after the AFK prank that Iskall tries to carry out
Grian’s trap: this is obviously just the trap for Iskall that Grian makes to stop him but I would like you to know that I went back to the episode to count the number of pistons used to make sure it lined up lmao
Scene 28 is also basically just a very dramatic version of the chase scene in this episode with some Watcher paranoia for spice
Scene 30–31:
Time machine: time to circle all the way back around to this plot lol — I didn’t think it made sense for KYEC!Grian to build a time machine himself during all of this but he still gets access to one in the end thanks to Mumbo. Grian’s Season 6 ep 79 has him go back in time to stop his diamonds from being stolen, only to realize he’s the one who stole them in the first place, and I thought it was a fitting way to end the fic after all the diamond stealing shenanigans
And hey, that's it! That list totally didn't take me like two hours to write up and find the episodes for! No wonder I had to restructure this fic like seven times when writing it!
Anyway, if you read this far, thanks for indulging my madness :) And to anyone who's engaged with any of my fics, thank you thank you thank you for every hit, kudos, comment, and bookmark!

Goosebumps theory: Mr Wood timeline of events
Ok this may be a little bit insane and the formatting may be off because I’m copying and pasting all this from where I was rambling in a friend’s Minecraft server’s Discord chat. But anyway without further ado:
This is how I think Mr Wood/Wally's life went. The books I'm getting this info from (in the order they were published) are Night of the Living Dummy, Bride of the Living Dummy, Slappy's Nightmare, I am Slappy's Evil Twin, and Slappy: Beware. Warning, this is a long ol’ post and contains spoilers!
So in I am Slappy's Evil Twin we learn that Slappy, Snappy, and Mr Wood were made by a ventriloquist and puppet maker named Franz Mahar in Britain in the 1920s, all made out of wood from a stolen coffin. We can infer that Goldie was also made by Franz, though she isn't mentioned because she hadn't made an appearance yet. Things get tricky here because Mr Wood, Snappy, AND Goldie were all said to have been created 'side by side' with Slappy but that's kind of impossible lmao. Slappy and Snappy are the only 2 who are described as being completely identical, though Mr Wood does come close enough to Slappy's appearance that he's almost exclusively reffered to as 'Slappy's twin'. Goldie was probably created first because she has the most powerful magic, then it was either Slappy & Snappy or Mr Wood, or Mr Wood was created last. All we really know is that Mr Wood is Franz's least favourite because of how he treats him, but idk if he treats him this way because of what Mr Wood did to him or if he just doesn't care for him much because he was created after the others? Or maybe Slappy & Snappy were created last and they're his favourite because they're like his final ultimate creation? This could really go either way. They were brought to life by a magician named Kanduu who Franz worked with, but after Mr Wood attacked Franz on stage he found that Kanduu had used his magic to turn the dummies evil which like ok wow, dick move there bro. Franz then runs away and moves to an isolated town in America where he continues to make puppets on his own. Slappy 'n co. are absolutely mental and so just go around the town fucking shit up, so of course the locals are pissed at Franz. They end up catching Mr Wood and burning him on a bonfire, and Franz fakes being upset about this but when he goes back home he just laughs with Slappy because that's his favourite little boy and he is so pleased that the townsfolk think Mr Wood was behind everything and will now leave him and his guys alone.
^ There is a bit of a discrepancy with this backstory though. In Slappy: Beware, Slappy claims he was made by an evil sorcerer 200 years ago in an evil tower but I am 100% certain he is just making shit up to sound cool. Or he genuinely believes this because he literally has a peanut butter sandwich in his head.
Now we know Mr Wood obviously survives this fire because he appears in other books. Maybe being framed and falsely accused from Slappy is the reason he hates him so much, though maybe he always hated him because as seen by the 'beat down of 1920' he is just generally violent. Anyway so while the first book published to feature Mr Wood was Night of the Living Dummy, I think that the next book in the timeline is Slappy's Nightmare. Yeah that's right baby, I think Slappy's Nightmare is a PREQUEL!!! WHAAAAT!!!!!!!
For some context though we need to take a look at Bride of the Living Dummy. In this book, we see that Slappy now currently belongs to an enthusiastic young guy named Jimmy O'James, for some reason depicted as a spineless old man in the TV series but I digress. This book doesn't have Mr Wood in it but it is very relevant because of Jimmy! Our precious Jimmy! Puppeteering them blind! Jimmy and Slappy work together to entertain kids at the town's local theatre, and because Slappy is alive Jimmy is like "wow I really hit the jackpot with this guy I'll be the best ventriloquist ever and make so many people happy with my performance!" but SIKE Slappy is evil and abuses Jimmy behind the scenes. Jimmy ends up running away from home I think? Or something? But we do know that Slappy eventually finds his way back to Jimmy because they are performing together again in Slappy's Nightmare.
SO this is where Mr Wood makes a return, but under the name of Wally. On the Goosebumps Wiki they are listed as 2 separate characters, but it's pretty much unanimously agreed upon that Mr Wood and Wally are the same character because they are both described as looking similar to Slappy, both hold a grudge against him, both have even worse anger issues than Slappy does, and both have blue eyes. The ONE teeny tiiiiny issue is that 'Wally' is described as having brown hair, but there are several non-canon (I think it was on a backpack) and dubiously-canon (Enter HorrorLand, the French cover of Night of the Living Dummy) depictions of Mr Wood where he has brown hair. So idk. Maybe his hair was dirty or he put like temporary dye in it or something. All I know is it's pretty much unanimously agreed upon that Mr Wood and Wally are the same.
Anyway tangent aside, most of this book doesn't count because, as the title suggests, it's Slappy having a nightmare, but there is a lot of relevant info in the parts where he is awake. We know that Slappy is still performing with Jimmy and that Jimmy desperately wants to get away from Slappy while continuing his dream of being a ventriloquist but is scared of failure and that if he stops performing with a living dummy everyone will see his lips moving (bro thought he was gonna be Archie Andrews 2 <-- nerd reference for fellow puppet fans ONLY). But at the end of the book, he gets Mr Wood (Wally) and reads a spell that will put Slappy to sleep and wake Wally up. So Slappy is now 'dead' and Mr Wood is now 'alive'. And while this bothered me for quite some time because how would Slappy come back for the later books, I think it makes sense with this prequel theory, because this leads on PERFECTLY to Night of the Living Dummy.
Despite the most famous cover of this book, the original American cover, having only Slappy on it, and the modern cover also featuring only Slappy, Slappy is actually BARELY relevant in this book AT ALL. Most of the crazy stuff that happens is all because of Mr Wood. So the book starts with the Powell twins playing on a construction site because this was the 90s and nobody cared about children's safety, when they find a dumpster with Slappy in it. Lindy claims it and Kris gets jealous, so her parents go out and buy her a dummy that is just like the one her sister has, and it's Mr Wood baby!!! This was the first book published with these 2 in it. The birth of absolute legends. We'll get back to the Powell twins later but we need to figure out, what happened in between Slappy's Nightmare and the first Night of the Living Dummy if it really is a prequel? And this is where we go to Slappy: Beware for one crucial clue. I know I already disparaged this book because Slappy is as about as unreliable as an unreliable narrator can get, but he has zero reason to lie about this because it makes his brother, who he hates, seem more successful than him, so I believe it's reall. I also haven't read Slappy: Beware but I know this is in it as a major plot point.
In the Goosebumps universe, there is actually a line of mass-produced replicas of Mr Wood, and Slappy uses this to his advantage by disguising himself as Mr Wood and hiding in one of the boxes so he's bought and gifted to a kid.
Why would Mr Wood be famous?
Because, I think, after putting Slappy to sleep and waking Mr Wood up, Jimmy began touring with Mr Wood instead. People took notice of 'how good of a ventriloquist this Jimmy guy is' (I mean wow, it's almost like the dummy has it's own voice or something!) and he got on talent shows and even like TV and stuff. They get merch deals, including producing those replicas, which is a real thing that happens irl with famous ventriloquist dummies like this literally irl happened with Slappy. But it's not to last because just like his brother, Mr Wood is an evil little shit and is exceptionally violent. Perhaps they got into an argument over the fact Jimmy was profiting off of Mr Wood's likeness now, who knows, all we know for certain is that Mr Wood ends up in a charity shop and Slappy ends up in a dumpster.
Anyway, so in the first Night of the Living Dummy book it's actually Mr Wood who's going around fucking shit up and vomiting green slime on people, Slappy is just completely normal and does nothing throughout the entire book. Eventually though Mr Wood's head gets crushed by a steamroller. Bummer! And then one of the twins accidentally brings Slappy to life and boom, twist ending!
There is something else I'd like to briefly mention, Mr Wood was actually the protagonist of the 2008 online game Enter HorrorLand (which is why it's the piece of lost media that most desperately needs to be found). The canonicity of this game is a little dubious and peculiar as all the books in the HorrorLand series link to this game as if it's part of that same universe and the books all end with maps that match up exactly with Enter HorrorLand. So it's possible he somehow survived the steamroller? God I hope so. I really really hope so.
Anyway that was the story of undertale thanks for reading lol :P

Modern Warfare III Review:
Okay so, I finished my first play through last night 5 days ago and ngl… lmao i had to open a gameplay so i could recount what actually my thoughts were at those times because I was confused half the time if not more from the story.
So here’s my unfiltered, filled with spoilers, and honest review.
Before anything let me just say this; I was wrong, my theory was wrong (although a banger if you ask me. Hire me Activision), and nothing I said in that post mattered. I’ll swallow my words… But I am slightly annoyed by it.
Here're the points I had problems with:
The story: it was…. Idk how to put it other than it being super fucking fast and filled with plot holes. Like half the time I was confused as to what was going on or I would forget what needed to be done. I think I blacked out 40% of the playthrough, because I would go into an OCM (Open Combat Missions) and Graves/Laswell would be like “bruh you need to do this we don't got time for stroll on the park get to it” and I’m just running around like a headless chicken trying to figure out what are the obj. I think they could’ve made it a bit slow paced, like MWII or MW even. Those had perfect story pace, even after the fact MWII didn’t have good writing. I just thought, MWIII would be impactful in a way the previous MWs weren’t, the ending WAS, but it took them 5 hours to of dragging and stretching one fucking thing, literally one thing. Because if you see the campaign in a way, even the bad guy, Makarov, wasn’t THAT impressive. I legit didn’t give a single fuck about Makarov or what his motives were, I just followed with 141’s intuitions.
Speaking of Makarov’s plans, he just appeared out of nowhere, and he has some beef with Farah and Urzakstan for some reason. Why? They didn’t specify other than he wants to “bring Russia to its old glory”. And of course they had to put fucking Farah into middle of this fiasco because why wouldn’t they. I hate the fact that she’s STILL to this day the center of the fucking MW storyline. She didn’t have much of a role to play in MWII campaign but the Raids took the center part. And that annoyed me tbh. Alas, we can’t have everything we ask for. (I would’ve stanned Farah in the long run but her holding hands with Graves in season 5 REALLY annoyed me but that's for another day).
Operation 627: Misleading. That's what I have to describe this mission, when i read the mission name, I was expecting it to be Price centered mission. I really wanted it to be a Price centered mission because the number 627 is Price’s identity. So to just take the number away and give it to Makarov really irked me if I’m being honest. And the whole marketing for it was misleading too (I’m looking at you barry). Gameplay wise it was okay I guess, typical CoD campaign mission.
Open Combat Missions: now here things gets fucked up. I was not expecting to be thrown right into OCMs right away. And by the end of my 400th try I was just running around and shooting without any care. I tried to do it stealthy, and with the enemies standing around the objectives that you CANNOT avoid it's almost impossible to even go undetected. It’s like a mixture of campaign and DMZ, which BTW is a really bad combination. And also, whenever I try to restart from the checkpoint it starts from the TOP! You have to do it all over again. I just wish they added the checkpoint thing it would’ve made so much easier. I know they want to make it feel like DMZ but it just SUCKS. And I wish it would've been at least a choice that you could make before the mission starts. Basically either you go OCM or just a regular mission, but in this case you’re forced to go to OCM.
(Also Farah’s Arabic sucks ass. At least they casted a good VO for Dena who knew how to speak Arabic properly.)
Reactor: again, another OCM. But this time, it was Price I played as. Now here everything felt off for me. Normally we would be playing as Soap or Gaz in ANY scenario because that would be the logical thing to do. But when the camera angle shifted to Price’s perspective, everything changed. And following this mission, every mission we got to play as Price just gave me a fear of sorts. Same as before, hard not to go undetected but more manageable than “Precious Cargo”. By the end of the mission Price almost gets incapacitated by the toxic gas, and that's what we see in the trailer. And from it we knew someone’s gonna die but it was not Price for sure, because he lives and kicks ass left and right.
Price being an errand boy: there’s a cutscene before mission ‘Payload, where Price and Farah get together to infiltrate an underground bunker to stop some rockets. In that cutscene it felt like the roles have been switched between the two. When Price was this leading figure in Farah’s life that had an enormous impact that changed the course of her life, now she’s acting like he owes her? It’s the other way around if you ask me, and she owes him fucking big. I don’t know man, I just hated the way she treated him the way she did. They keep giving her a piece of the story bigger than she could chew, and Price is left with crumbs (even with the amount of cutscenes and gameplay we have with him), he almost felt like he was being LED by everyone around him instead of him LEADING the team (and Farah). He felt like what Soap felt like in MWII, even Soap had a major ass role in MWII. That cutscene, as much as he looked good in it, felt really undermining Price for me. And the audacity Farah had when she said “do you trust me” to Price. Girl, after what you pulled with Graves, I would never trust you with anything. And Price giving his utmost loyalty to her just didn’t feel like he would do something like that. And I mean that in the most respectful way. When Price told her about Shadow company calling a hit on 141 and Shepherd being a bad man, I legit thought she would actually be shocked and side with Price, but what did she say? “My weapons are my business” fuck you Farah, and fuck your weapons. In conclusion, yeah Price felt more like an errand boy than the Captain of 141 task force. The mission that follows that cutscene was almost standard campaign mission. I say almost because it still felt like OCM.
Yuri Volkov: I’ll be honest, I was not expecting Yuri to make an appearance, I was expecting ‘Roach’ to be there more than anything. And we finally got to see Yuri’s face. I liked how they took Yuri’s story and twisted it around so he never 'betrayed' 141 by keeping the fact that he worked with Makarov from them. I guess Laswell is indeed useful sometimes. The fact that they made him be useful to 141 without having him take one in the face from Price was indeed surprising. (I was screaming in discord chat about it to Mari when he appeared.) Though we don't know what his fate is, but I'm 100% sure he's still alive and I have a feeling he'll be joining 141 in the next installment if not in the upcoming seasons of MWIII. I just hope he got away safe. That man sounded like a rascal lol, he definitely has some stuff up his sleeves.
Oh and special mention about Nikolai, am I happy to see Nik again. That man deserves every bit of love. No MW or 141 would be complete without Nik.
Stealth: For some reason this game was made to be played as ‘go big or go fucking die’ because in “Deep Cover”, you play as Laswell trying to sneak into the Arklov base, to meet up with Yuri, and i got caught like at least 10 times before I had to restart all over again, and again and again. The fucking stealth in this game is horrendous. Whoever made it IMPOSSIBLE to stealth, I hope you choke on water you drink and recover so you know how I felt all those tries I had to restart. It’s the same case even in regular missions, you either get caught even in fucking desguise, or they start shooting you for no fucking reason. I walk far, I'm too far from the obj, I walk close they shoot me. Fuck me man, I just had to fucking power walking through the first half of this whats suppose to be a 10 minutes walking simulator, took me 3 minutes of multiple tries because of that. Not gonna lie, I was kind of expecting Laswell to meet her demise in that mission because of the unavoidable missiles (maybe I was little bit of hoping it too who knows), but she survived, yaay.
Alex & Farah: then comes in the Master and the Lapdog duo. At this point I’ll never get tired of complaining about Farah and her personality. They tried so hard to make her into a girlboss, and they would have succeeded if they just left her story as is after MWII. But no, they had to drag her and her lapdog into this story and make something out of it.
I am just annoyed by everything she says. She keeps secrets from Price, the man who basically saved her life to become the commander she is today, her motives are unclear, she says she does this to protect her country and that she doesn’t get out of it to protect but stays INSIDE it protecting it (her words not mine), extends hands with a war criminal when she said that she doesn’t work with people who kills civilians for no reason, she compares herself, 141 and PRICE to the Shadows/Shepherd by saying “we’re all dangerous”, and the icing on the cake, her Arabic is horrendous. I know because I speak Arabic fluently. You might say “but Jay thats her accent you can’t judge her like that”, I know how Arabic accents sounds like, and this bitch’s is fucking incoherent half the time if not all the time.
And Alex… oh boy, this man is a fucking idiot lmfao. He had good intentions in MW2019, and I liked him there, but they should’ve just killed him off. But no, they had to bring him back. What are they gonna do now with Soap huh? They're gonna bring him back too? Also didn’t Keller say “he’s tired of getting told who his friends are” and didn’t want to follow the CIA blindly anymore? What’s he doing now with Farah, hm? I’ve never seen a boy so delusional like him before.
So many plot holes in these two characters only, I hate how they’re written.
Makarov lives: we… never got to learn the reason. Yes I went back and watched the gameplay today just to make sure I was not wrong, they never say why Price stopped Soap from killing Mak in that heli. “John he’s in custody he’s not going anywhere. Stand down.” FOR WHAT?! If they knew Makarov had this much power in the world, they should’ve just executed him. But noooooo they had to keep him alive for plot progress. If he died then and there in that heli, Soap would’ve been alive at the end. Was it because Shepherd said “bring him out ALIVE”? Or was it because Price wanted a win so bad that he threw his moral ambiguity out of the fucking heli he was riding? Man, I miss the MW2019 Price. But we’ll get to Price’s personality section later.
Yeah, we never got to learn the reason why Makarov didn’t die, why he is still alive. They just made it so that he’s the only villain that had the balls to do what he did. Bitch please, he looks like a whiny rich child that thinks he can do anything he wants to do. Literally that's how I saw Mak in the reboot. His character legit sounded like a spoiled child, not the evil man we knew and hated from the og MW series. And I can’t believe that I’m saying this but I kind of miss that Mak.
Like, who would look at this face and say “oh he looks intimidating shiver me timbers”
Tumblr media
Yullian is too adorable for this role, and he did a good job to bring a villain to life, it just wasn’t enough to be "The" Makarov.
Soap & Ghost: now that brings us to this broski duo. Watching that heli scene made me realize two things, 1. Either Ghost and Soap were friendly before MWII and Ghost was never a lone wolf to begin with. Or 2.141 was tight as knit before it was even formed. Because if you actually go back to the mission itself these two sounded as close to each other as they were aftermath of MWII Alone mission. Like it doesn't make sense, bare with me a little bit as I go through the timeline of the campaign.
Ghost was introduced in season 2 of MW2019, he was in the 141 just immediately after Price had formed it, and rumors say Soap was too, but we never saw him until the very last season of whatever game that was released before MWII (I think Vanguard), as a character bundle in the store itself. Mind you the bundle was leaked long before Cold War was out (it came out right after MW2019). And in MWII we get introduced to Ghost as this lone wolf/rogue esque soldier that only takes orders for solo missions. So when he was told that Soap would be assisting him in that first mission we played, he sounded annoyed to say the least.
Now, up until the “Alone” mission and aftermath of that, it's as if they were only on acquaintance bases, then they became close after the hardship they went through in that mission. And it makes you sympathize and understand why they became close all of a sudden. They were betrayed by the people they trusted, they were in this together. But I digress.
Now in ‘Flashpoint”, the mission that was supposed to take place 4 years prior to MWIII where they catch Makarov, Soap was WITH Price, and Ghost was in overwatch with Shepherd in that heli. When they spoke with each other they sounded very close to each other, mind you this was before MWII took place. I kept thinking long and hard about it. Did they tell us what took place in between? Why do they sound like bffs in that mission when Ghost was not fond of Soap in the beginning of MWII? Did I miss something?
It’s one of the two, either they are not telling us the whole story of 141 and how Soap and Ghost know each other, or this is a massive ass yet another fucking plot hole.
Ghost: I have to talk about him, because as a character that had been glorified and milked to the brim, his presence in MWIII was so fucking underwhelming. Even as playable, I nearly forgot it was him we played as in that mission. And his dialogues felt kind of… dry… normally he would actually have a smart reply or he’ll talk very bluntly but it just felt dry from him this time around. Like… who asks “what’s the rest of your plan?” to the big baddie plain and simple expecting them to reveal everything? Man they made him sound dumber than MWII. Literally reduced to this emoji 🧍🏻‍♂️. He had almost no impact on the story if you ask me, he was just… there… I expected more from him.
Tumblr media
no words....
“No Russian”: well, that was a lame ass “No Russian” mission if you ask me. Now bear with me if I keep comparing this game with the og one because it can't be helped. This is a reboot, this should be BETTER than the og, it had to be but instead we got this. If you compare the og ‘No Russian’ mission, as brutal and raw it was, it left quite the impact on the series. It told us how savage Makarov can be, it showed us the brutality of the world, and that the world has some BAD people with no remorse. In MWIII, the ‘No Russian’ we got was extremely underwhelming, it didn’t make us feel bad for our actions, it did not hold any sort of impact except feeling sorry for the woman because she was forced to do what she did. It wasn’t us following Makarov’s plan and orders, it was plain and dumb if you ask me. Now, I understand in the political climates we live in today, it would be controversial to remake that mission with the player being one of the gunmen that… mows down a whole airport filled with innocent people and civis, but that is what made the og game/mission so good. It didn’t hold back on brutality and the reality of villains, the truth of characters who want to play gods, their motivations, how the player is tied down to the villain no matter what they want to do because it’s inevitable. And It had an impact on the player, the game and the story. We needed the necessary evil so the game could progress. But instead we got a woman trying to save an airplane filled with innocents, disarm the bomb that was strapped on her chest, and clear her name at the same damn time, which was like 3 minutes. Could’ve done better if you ask me.
Shepherd: how the fuck did this cunt get captured in the first place? Wasn’t he supposed to be in Shadows and Grave’s protection? The man weaseled out of 141 and CIA’s grasps but somehow was weak enough to be captured by the Koni group? What is even the plot anymore? And they didn’t say how or why he got captured. Maybe it was that one Shadows soldier that Mak and his right hand man Nolan interrogated? How does Makarov get his intel? We don’t fucking know. He’s just a prophet at this point :)
I can’t express how much I dislike this man, I don’t hate him I just really really really dislike him. There’s a difference.
His character was, again, weak af in the reboot. God… why do they keep making me compare the reboot with the og games, I hate doing that for real. BUT, og Shepherd being as fucked up as he was, still had a strong personality. And if you just put these two side by side, no one would believe they’re the same character. I’m glad he got offed by Price at the end, no one likes loose ends after all. And he was a massive one, and a liability, and someone that no one can trust anymore after what he pulled on 141 and Laswell. Especially after he threw Graves in the fire when he was in trial when Laswell and 141's condition for helping him out was to confess everything. But of course, as the fucking weasel he is he didn’t do that.
Graves: oh man… Can this guy be any more pathetic? I love Graves, as he is, as a whole, pathetic or not, Warren’s acting made me love this character. But again 😭, reduced to nothing but a pathetic man who looks for glory. Stabbing his handler in the back to save his own ass, although he got stabbed in the back first.
They legit took everything good and cool about any character we like (Price, Graves, Ghost, etc) and gave it to Farah, a character that should not have an impact as much as her.
Price: that point brings us to John Price himself. I cannot describe how angry I feel towards sledgehammer’s writers now. I’m so pissed at them for writing Price like this.
real img of me reacting to the way they wrote price:
Tumblr media
In MW2019, his actions were so RAW, he was brutal, blunt, calculated and honest about his work and what he does. And he took pride in what he did and how he did. He didn’t give a fuck about what the upper management (Laswell, Shepherd) thought about his work. He was THE Captain that everyone respected, even CIA agents and the U.S General were at his feet asking for help from him.
Laswell: “What can you brief?”, Price: “We just did”- LIKE WHO ELSE CAN SAY THAT SO CASUALLY AND SOUND SO FUCKING BADASS LIKE THAT. NO ONE, thats fucking who. Now even Price doesn't sound like that AT ALL.
They reduced my man into a puppet that ‘trembles’ in front of Farah whilst she calls him “Old Man”. That scene annoys me every time I think about it. Why would they do this to him? Where did that man that said “they were leverage” to Gaz when he questioned Price’s morality about the hostages, disappear. MW2019 Price would never be this mild, or he would never be gentle or compromising when it comes to civilian lives. That heli scene? It should’ve been HIM instead of Soap, grabbing Mak and pointing a gun at him. MW2019 Price wouldn’t even hesitate to cut out Mak’s tongue for talking too much. Killed Shepherd where he stood in Frozen Tundra. It's as if Price was not there anymore, it was Gaz telling him, reminding him what HE would do, it wasn't just once when Gaz advised him to what to do. Price is losing his mind for some reason.
In MWIII, he looked like he was too scared to be cancelled if he said or did something out of the line. That’s you’re fucking job Captain! To step out of the fucking line when no one would!!
Price is a morally grey character, a necessary evil, and that is what made him so good as a character. MWIII took all that away. I want to cry at how badly they wrote him. I wanted them to bring back “Angry Price” from MW2019, and add even more rage in him because of Makarov, but instead they pumped “Fear” into him. Price was scared shitless in MWIII for some reason, and it made it look like it was because of Makarov. He didn’t take risks anymore… he was not the same Price that we got to know from the beginning of the reboot. It's as if they keep having to change his character in every game he’s in, they can't keep it consistent for some reason. And it cost them dearly.
Tumblr media
All in all it felt like Makarov and Price were having a personality mid-off the whole campaign.
Gameplay: 87% of it was ass. And short. And annoying af. I actually prefer the fucking driving mission from MWII than this bullshit.
The necessary death: I get it. I understand what they were going for, someone had to be the sacrificial lamb, the motivation for 141 to keep going, for Price to get angry and drag everyone to hell as we went there himself. But did it have to be Soap? They just introduced him like a year ago… and they took him out just as fast. In that scene Makarove appeared out of fucking nowhere to fight with Price and Soap, like… where did he appear from? Why is he here if he just armed the bombs? Did he REALLY want to take a body count with him that badly?
We were playing as Price, and again, I had a bad feeling, I couldn’t tell what it was but it was there. Then Mak was pointing a gun at Price, I honestly thought he would die then and there, and I was so scared that it would actually happen but Soap, my man Soapy boy, saved us. When Mak shot him I thought he was incapacitated but stood up and saved up, for like 5 seconds it reminded of the og MW gameplay, just for a short time.
And then, instead of shooting us (Price), he deliberately shot Soap, in the fucking head. And ran like a fucking pussy… I keep remembering his run, it was so stupid.  Mari mentioned this to me the other day, in the OG we see Soap struggling to live, to breath out the last words to Price so he can know the truth, he was bleeding everywhere, there were seconds to at least say goodbyes, here his soul left his body before it even hit the floor. And after everything went quiet I thought Price would fall to his knees and grieve. But he just stood there like 🧍🏻‍♂️.
I guess I felt just what Price felt because, I didn’t feel anything at first, because it felt surreal, seeing him take a shot in the head like that. Instantly wiping the light from his eyes like that, it shocked me that I didn’t even react at first. Took me to the last scene where they were spreading Soap’s ashes. And when Price said “Who Dares Wins. sleep easy soldier”, I lost it.
Again, I get it, a major character death motivation was necessary, but did it have to be Soap?
What I liked about the game:
Frozen Tundra: I liked this mission for one reason only. Okay maybe two… Reason one being that it's a classic cod campaign mission, reason two being that it was in Siberia, Russia. And Icy and snowy environment… thank fuck that they did this in the classic style mission. Also sneaking, and actual stealth that worked, because we were wearing white suites IN the snow. *chefs kiss*.
Wish we had a bit more options and choices, where we would be able to ride vehicles, like snowmobile, or idk maybe snowboard? Some creativity would’ve been nice. Because dammit it’s a snow map. A lot could have been done tbh.
The Cinematics: if call of duty is good at one thing, it’s making good ass cinematic cutscenes for their games. It was filled with eye candy; Price, Soap, Gaz, Nikolai, Graves, Ghost, every single person looked amazing in the cinematics. And yes I was swooning over Price every shot he was in (although his personality was meh).
Yuri, Nikolai and Gaz: the only characters that I actually liked in MWIII. It seems like the less presence you have in the story the better your character can be. (not you Ghost and Graves). These characters were actually tolerable if anything compared to the rest of the cast.
The After Credit Scene: oh that was satisfying. Killing Shepherd before he became danger to anyone else ever again, and Shepherd was like “I ain't begging for my life” and Price was like “I know” and just shoots him. Price was not taking risks anymore.
Now this scene, here we saw the RAW Price. Now after losing one of the closest 141 members to him, Price was in for blood, he was on his way to hell, and he was going to take every. single. poor and pathetic bastard that inflicted harm to his task force. You can see the pain and the guilt in Price’s eyes in that scene, he blames himself for Soap’s death for sure. I loved that emotional part of him, I just wish he was like that the whole campaign. RAW and unfiltered. This was my favorite scene in the game, period.
Conclusion: they had good intentions… but making what was supposed to be DLCs into a fully fledged campaign was not the way to go. I wish more creativity was thrown into the story, the points were good, yes my theory was good, (shut up im biased) but it had some solid points, but the plot holes and the poorly executed story was the demise of this game.
Like Mari and I had a better fucking story written out WITH this storyline WITHOUT anyone dying, and to prepare for MWIIII. They could’ve used the “Price going MIA” from the og games and implemented it in this game, instead of killing Soap like that. Maybe kill him off later on after recovering Price back like they did in the og MW. so many potentials, yet very poor and bad execution to the story. Man Sledgehammer writers were not fucking cooking at all. I hate them all.
I would give the game: 6/10.
also I'm still expecting apologies from the people who theorized Soap was a traitor. yall better be so fucking sorry about it. even the people who entertained the idea of it even if you didn't come up with it. shame on you all.

wait so in your early posts about too many thads au you mention that it's unclear whether nine has powers and doesn't use them, or straight up doesn't have you decided which it is yet? (or would that be a spoiler lol)
also yooo the written version is crazy good so far I followed you for yj stuff but didn't know much about the whole impulse/inertia thing so I tended to mostly skip over the too many thads thing even though I was like "oh that's funny lol/cool art" because I just thought it was very confusing but then I saw the written version and decided to try it and by the end of ch2 (most recent at time of sending the ask) I actually understood it and actually was able to pick up on a lot of the undertones so kudos for that! it's really well done + does a great job of bringing in the details from your tumblr posts either as explicitly stated info or as implications :D
(ps. have you heard of the "magnificent bastard" antagonist trope? I feel like it suits three (or at least what he wants you to think about him) very well LOL especially in the comic where he asks six where seven is)
ah thanks so much!!! truly i think the most challenging part of this project has been trying to figure out how to communicate the central idea in the least confusing way possible. (then of course i go ahead and have an idea that complicates the whole mess even further lmao)
in regards to the question about Nine's powers or lack thereof.... ough i dont think theres a way for me to answer it without spoilers unfortunately!! but im so glad you're enjoying it so far!
edit: also i think Magnificent Bastard absolutely describes the way Three wants to be perceived (if not necessarily who he actually is)

Another post about the second season of Good Omens, spoilers everywhere...
So! Crowley and Aziraphale are canon now. It feels weird to even type it, and I saw the EVERY leak when it happened. There was still this fear of ‘what if its not real tho’ but huh. It really was. I’m so pleasantly surprised about it, hard to describe even.
Until I think, two or three weeks ago, I was not aware that the plan was to have three seasons. I’m glad I learned it before watching, because I was so sure that season two would be IT, the unwritten sequel and then it would be Over. I would be scratching my head if I watched without knowing it lmao
And that finale, as sad as it was to watch them break apart, I think it makes a lot of sense and it was where the season was heading all along. The season hinted and showed several times that Aziraphale has such a hard time conciliating his idea of what Heaven is and what he thinks it is/should be, and how it clashes with Crowley all the time.
The proposal that Metraton does to him has to be his dreams coming true and really, he’s So happy about it, beaming, smiling sooo wide. He and Crowley together in Heaven doing Good, how better could it get?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Aziraphale always had in his mind that Crowley’s fall was maybe an error because Crowley is just too good to be a demon and now he has a chance to fix it himself, but man, what a sucker punch it has to be for Crowley.
It was as a demon that their relationship was built, it was with him being a demon that Crowley showed nothing but companionship, care and love for Aziraphale their whole existence on Earth, and suddenly when he thinks Aziraphale is finally seeing Heaven for what it is, he has to hear stuff like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When really, the Armageddon should have made it clear for Aziraphale that Heaven and Hell are really not that different, that they want the same things and even do things in similar ways.
I really liked the love confession. Crowley was soo sad all over it, knowing it was over but hoping against hope that it wasn’t. We can hear the tears in his voice all over it. And man, him asking again for Aziraphale to run away with him, like he did twice before...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the answer may change a bit from time to time, but it’s still Aziraphale choosing Heaven over Crowley.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deny me three times, Peter...
No wonder Crowley gives up, and the kiss is about it - a last attempt before he goes away. I didn’t hate the kiss, I like how desperate and sad and rough Crowley was, but I think it would have been nicer if Aziraphale had allowed himself to melt into it a bit, to truly feel it before pushing Crowley away.
Tho I have to admit I like how distraught he looks after the kiss is over. I think he realized then than Crowley was not going to budge this time. That that was It. He certainly looks like it.
Tumblr media
Anyway, all in all, I’m looking forward to the next season and how they’ll fix their mess after all of this. They’ll both be miserable I think; I wonder how long it will take for Aziraphale to understand that Metatron is clearly using him and that going to Heaven to try and change things really wasn’t the answer he hoped it would be.
Right now I feel so, so sorry for Crowley, for someone like him to allow himself to be that vulnerable with the one he loves only to end like this... dude is having a Not Great Time

Yall I just gotta spill my incoherent rambles about Its Name Was Cesar Torres because GRAAAAHHHHH
Spoilers under the cut!
I saw one post that was like “Ok but which would be more fucked up: the alternate killing Cesar while wearing the face of his mom, or vice versa?” And this fic gave us a third and even more devastating option holy shit-
“Picking up the receiver, it paused before pressing at the shapes in the pattern it knew would make Cesar Torres’ friend speak.”
DO YOU REALIZE HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS LINE.
Understanding the how but not the why, having the knowledge but not the experience, the inhuman detachment of it all. One small detail that betrays its whole state of being right now: An imitation.
And don't even get me started on the headcanons for how alternates work bc they're so FASCINATING
The way alternates just. Absorb? Things? To take on their form? One of the comments mentioned the alt wearing Cesar's corpse like a parasite and AOUGH
The way emotions have taste- Altsar's initial plan to understand pain just so it could make Mark's suffering that much better to savor- It's just the sheer embodiment of their nature as entities of consumption, born into a state of empty eternity
The way alternates have no personal stake in the war and are just doing what they do best because they can- The way alternates can't die and are just cast back into the void from whence they came, only delaying the inevitable-
Pfffft Mark walks in and just sees Altsar like 🧍 aksjdalkfh- Not a single thought between those eyes dude
Mark with the chewed up fingernails he just like me fr
THE BIBLE REFERENCES THE BIBLE REFERENCES OUGHHGHGHH HOLY SH IT
I don't even know why I love em so much they just make me FERAL- OK BUT THAT SCENE IN CHAPTER 2 WITH MARK RECITING THE FUCKIGNF PSALM AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
BRO IS CLINGING. HOLDING ON FOR DEAR LIFE SOMEONE HELP HIM. GO CHRISTIAN BOY GO!!!! Voted God's little lamb most likely to be slaughtered-
THE PANCAKESSSSS. WHAT IF I CRIED. A glimpse of silliness in the storm, and Altsar fuckin grinning from ear to ear (perhaps literally lmao-) I love that and I want them to be ok in the end-
Can we talk about the deer alternate. Can we tALK ABOUT THE FUCKING DEER AAAAUGHH
They had us in the first half not gonna lie with the Mark fakeout- The way I slapped my hand over my mouth like "WUH? HUH??"
AND THEN ALTSAR, OVERWHELMED WITH RAGE, STRIKING THIS ABOMINATION WITH ALL OF ITS THEIR MIGHT. AND YET IT JUST KEEPS TALKING. WORDS DRIPPING FROM ITS SLACKED JAW LIKE SALIVA. WHY WON'T IT STO P.
The moment Altsar realizes he's gotten way in over his head past the point of no return- The constant change of it to they to he, struggling with newfound humanity and unable to see where the alternate ends and the dead man begins. Is there even a difference anymore?
The whole warm and cold thing..... Mark taking Altsar's hands into his and bandaging his its wounds..... Injured. Broken. Both of them living a lie for as long as they can.
AND CAN WE JUST APPRECIATE THE WAY EVERYTHING COMES TOGETHER AT THE END:
The Mary statue and the deer alternate coming back
Mark's righteous fury framed by the shards of the Evangelist
The change from ¬ Shoot me, Mark Heathcliff. I am not what you think. ¬ to ¬ Don’t shoot me. I'm not what you think. ¬
Altsar finally experiencing pain, only for it to be at the hand of his best friend. Bleeding out as he screams for the one thing he just can't go without.
“It hurts, Mark. It hurts.”
IT'S JUST SO!!! GODDDDDDDDD. WHAT IF I CRIED. WHAT IF I TURNED INTO A LITTLE PUDDLE HUH. WHAT THEN.
I just. I struggle to find the words to describe how much I adore this fic, yall. If you were to look in my brain you would just find that one video of the guy shouting "HEEEELP. HEEEEEEELP. HELP MEEE." with the most expressionless face-
I like this fic. I like it a whole lot. And I can't wait to see what comes next ouo

I like doing my little rant posts 2 people read so I'm doin it again this year :] this time I finished something way sooner too
Tumblr media Tumblr media
fatamoru... took me half a year to get myself to actually read it but well it's a classic and it's good as hell what can I say (spoilers under cut)
gonna link my longass livetweet thread here for posterity so it's not completely lost in the mire
this felt so targeted though it's legit dumbfounding. I went into it only recalling 1 and a halfish spoilers of 1) michel is the MC and 2) he had trans stuff going on and honestly if anything my jumping at shadows and going HUH WAIT ? the whole time knowing that kinda heightened the experience for me early on. I was about to say at first it was hard to know what parts of the story I should really sink my teeth into but I think that was the intended experience... these stories aren't yours etc... the atmosphere and ost especially is also like soooo crazy good I was worried it'd be hard for me to stay focused on this game without voice acting but I was surprised how well it stuck even if some of the sfx are very obviously old and scuffed none of them took me out of it much (this has been a legit issue for me with some games.. the otomate sound library is really scuffed sometimes LOL) and even when the game was going over the same events, in different contexts etc it never started grating on me so that is a huge W. too many fucking games act like you just weren't paying attention when you were reading and it not only pisses me off but it's just so boring. so this avoiding that entirely was really good. GRIPPING. some of it was so edge of my seat I think I played for like 10 or more hours straight I thought I was gonna die but in a good way LMAO I don't think I have anything interesting or poignant to say about the actual story itself other than despite everything I want jacopo dead, I totally get the point about letting go and moving on and a cycle needing to be broken and it was visceral and moving and so real to me. but also. jacopo deserved all that shit. everything else though I'm just sitting there yelling TRUE AS HELL!!!!!! really loud. I love you michel I love you giselle I'm gonna get u outta there morgana. wait I lied. morgana as the white haired girl. it's not fucking fair.... I wanted to save her... I do think 'she' truly did become part of morgana again though, based just on how scared morgana was of didier at the end, at the cries of being called an unholy witch... a fear that only she held, morgana sort of reveled in being a witch in the course of carrying out the cruelty. but the saintly part of her feared that fall, that complete inversion of her self and the hatred it pointed towards her as well... man : ( ........... : (
I could write an essay specifically on the ways I relate to michel to a like genuinely scary degree the overlap made me sick to my stomach in the best way. but honestly I would be a weepy mess at the end of it so I don't wanna do all that. as an aside though apparently the author(s) have said he's "only intersex, not trans" but man I think that's a stupid as hell delineation to make. he's both. he was assigned 'female' at birth and was raised as a woman and chafed against the social role of 'woman'. IF ANYTHING I relate to him more about not necessarily feeling dysphoric/lacking in regard to his genitals on his own but more about the fact that that somehow invalidates his status as a 'man' being something that torments him. it's a topic that overlaps imo. but the fact the game handles it with as much tact as it does while being as old as it is surprised me. though I could see it being still too upsetting for some because the depiction of the trauma is kind of like. viscerally too real almost. when giselle described her abuse... it wasn't even descriptive in the disgusting voyeuristic way it so often is in other places, but the representation of how it just feels to be subject to that was so real that it really really fucked me up... I'M DOING THE THING I JUST SAID I SHOULDN'T AAHHH but well. it's really good. it's like eating a heavy but hearty meal where it's so good but I can feel it sitting in my stomach and the weight of it just makes me groan. does this even make sense anymore. man.
ok a selection of my fav screengrabs to play me off before I continue in such a manner.

17. Your favorite character to write this year?
You know, I think it might actually have been Joe? I've not written much Joe POV but it's always so fun to do, particularly in scenes with Len, cos Joe is always so done and ready to fight at all times lmao. I have a half-written one shot I really wanna finish where Joe finds out about coldwestallen and almost has a heart attack and it was SO fun to write, I'm cackling just thinking about it
18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?
i feel like the obvious answer is len. i've seen a lot of people saying that and for good reason, he's so difficult to get right. particularly when it comes to dialogue. i loooove writing dialogue, it's my fave, but when i'm editing i find myself revisiting so much of his dialogue and deleting, tweaking, rewriting, SO much of it ends up on the proverbial cutting-room floor because when it comes to len, i take the old edict "he would not fucking say that" so seriously. it's always in my mind. but the problem with len is that there's so MUCH he would not fucking say. and it makes it very difficult when there are things i NEED him to say for the plot but it just doesn't ring as authentic.
there's this post that i saw once that talks about the ways people say things without saying them, specifically when it comes to expressing love. like they say "fasten your seatbelt" or "text me when you get home safe", but what they're actually saying is "i love you, i care about you", and that's the balance i'm basically always trying to strike with len. it's like, how can i have him say things without saying it. so i spend a LOT of time agonizing over that
that being said i think the character who's challenged me the most this year has actually been iris. because i've been reading and thinking a little more critically about like. fandom racism. and how characters of colour, but especially Black characters, are treated by fandoms and by the narrative, and so i've been trying to be a lot more intentional about how i write iris and particularly how i'm describing her, and not wanting to perpetuate harm in my portrayal and potentially create an unsafe space for Black folks in fandom, and also thinking about what candice patton herself has said about the fact that iris was never really written as Black, especially in the early seasons. like. this is a white character who they happened to cast a Black woman to play. so that's also something that's been going around in my head, like her race is important and would affect her whole perspective and worldview, and so i don't want to forget that, but then i don't want to overstep and write things that are outside my lane... there have been times where i've really got in my head about it, which is good, i think i'd rather be thinking too hard about it than being careless in my approach, but it's defo been at the forefront of my mind as she takes a bigger role in the fics i'm writing, especially as i have a few iris-centric longfic ideas that i'd LOVE to work on in future but that's defo something i'll have to be even more aware of if i do that, so yeah.
29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
You know, frustratingly I think my fave thing I've written this year is something I can't share because it's a huuuuge DNDB spoiler 😭 so I'll settle for sharing a steamy lil snippet from the westallen "don't worry, darling" AU i mentioned because it's a super romantic scene and i loooove it
it hasn't been edited so still kinda rough around the edges but im obsessed with like. its general essence!
Turning towards him, she stood on her toes to reach more easily and Barry tightened his arm around her waist, grabbed her thigh with the other and hoisted her up onto the chest of drawers in front of the window, knocking over a lamp which thunked to the floor and sent all the light in the room crazy, filling it with weird shadows and changing the angles of their faces. Barry pressed her against the window pane and Iris jumped, making a startled little sound at the coldness of the glass that caused her to arch into him even more, wrapping her legs around his waist for leverage. He leaned hungrily into her, bracing one palm against the window, and before long the glass had fogged around his palm and haloed around her like a pale aura, the moonlight outside smudging her edges while they kissed and kissed like they’d never stop.
Thank you!

Apparently tumblr didn't actually post this post I wrote right when I finished nona so time to go back and add some quotes.
-----
Ok I just finished nona and I'm going insane but, I wonder if mercymorn and Augustine and Gideon aren't the lyctors original names? Bc we know that's who Jod is talking about, but why censor them? Unless they were different and he changed them when the woke up.
My key piece of evidence for this is the bit where he talks about Ulysses and Titania and how he changed their names from the original. ALSO WILD THAT THEY WERE DEAD BEFORE HE MET THEM AND REVIVED WAY LATER
-----
My evidence:
So, my two kids, the guinea pigs, they were U— and T— on their certificates, you know, their old names. I thought about using those but it didn’t seem appropriate.
And then a bit later:
Let me introduce you to … Ulysses. Let me introduce you to … Titania.
Following these naming conventions that means all the lyctors had other names originally. I'm dying to know what they are.
And also trying to figure out who all the ppl he's referencing are:
He said, It was me and A— and M— at the start.
This one's pretty obviously Augustine and Mercymorn.
C— was brought on by the oversight execs for contracts, you know, checks and balances, but look where that ended up, she was on our side before the first year was over
This could be Cristabel, Cassiopeia, Cyrus, or Cytherea. (God why r there so many C names). Leaning towards Cristabel at this point just bc she goes with Mercymorn.
We even lent them G— at the time because they wanted to talk about coating.
This one's G1deon obviously.
C— was panicking because with the project over she was getting recalled to England and didn’t want to go, she’d got N— and didn’t want to leave her, refused to admit they were dating even though we all knew.
Ok so C is pretty obviously Cassiopeia at this point, and N is Nigella.
Interesting side note here, everyone mentioned so far is a necromancer, not cavelier (with the exception of N whose only referenced in relation to C.
we had a pet cop, P—. She’d made detective by that point; was going on to big things in the MoD. Knew G— from way back,
PYRRHA yasss baby
god her being a cop makes so much sense lmao.
C— was still pretending they weren’t dating—she was an artist, so that was cool. If you have two scientists and an engineer and a detective and a lawyer and an artist you’re pretty much sweet as.
Cassiopeia is the lawyer if we're going off of the earlier quote, so Nigella is the artist, Mercymorn and Augustine are both scientists, I'm p sure G1deon is the engineer, and Pyrrha is the detective obviously.
M— had brought in her best friend, the nun,
interestingly this person is always described as "M—'s nun, and never given a letter. It could definitely be Cristabel, especially given that we can't use C— twice without it being hella confusing, but I'm wondering if John chose not to revive her afterwards for some reason so she's not actually anyone. There's this weird distance to how he describes her vs the other ppl: "the nun", "our nun", "M—'s nun" vs everyone's name. (He would be that petty).
My other theory is that M—'s nun is ANASTASIA. Again, can't use A a second time, she's obviously smart as hell and gets him to figure out the soul, which hello our Anastasia almost perfected the actual lyctoral process, and obviously the ninth house is full of nuns. Plus, he trusted her to watch over Alecto and seal the tomb, who better then the person that showed you she existed in the first place?
And then A— brought in his little brother who was a hedge fund manager. A— Junior was useless but he was a darling,
We know from HTN that this is Alfred.

"I did end up writing a total divergence when I was writing Nona, back in 2020, because I wanted to make sure my clockwork made sense — I wanted to make sure that if you wound up Gideon and Harrow and put them on a slightly different route the laws of the universe would still flow accordingly. (I stopped writing because when your editor asks how you’re doing and you’re like “I stopped to write 30k to prove a timeline” he’s legally allowed to shoot you with a crossbow.)"

Ok I know everyone and their mother thinks Nona is in gideon's body, but what if... It's actually Harrow's body instead???
I have very little scant evidence for this but I will present it anyways.
At the end of Harrow the Ninth, Pyrrha, in G1deon's body, is with Gideon, in Harrow's body, onboard the Mithraeum at the bottom of the river.
Gideon breaks a window and swims out into the river, sees god and Ianthe, and then drowns. Then she sees
"a great sunshiny light: a blurred figure [...] your bullshit dead girlfriend had come to claim you.
And she said in the wrong voice twice removed: "Chest compressions. I know her sternums shattered; ignore it. We need that heart pumping. On my mark."
Hands pressed. We died." (500)
Then, in the Epilogue, the mystery girl lives with "the person who went to work for her, the person who taught her, and the person who looked after her" (505) we get confirmation at the end that "the person who looks after her" is Camilla.
Then, in the Nona the Ninth summary it says "Nona would prefer to live an ordinary life with the people she loves, with Pyrrha and Camilla and Palamedes"
So somehow, Pyrrha gets from in the river with Gideon in Harrow's body, to Camilla and Pal. What if she took Harrow's body with her? Knowing her character, and especially knowing that she just found out that Wake's daughter is in Harrow's body, it doesn't rly make sense for her to just abandon them.
I know this doesn't rly track with the fact that we know Cam was with Gideon's body at one point, but she's definitely not with Gideon's body in the shuttle when she meets Harrow, and given that that body was achieving cult worship status by BOE it's unlikely that they would let it go.
My other evidence, which is more circumstantial than anything, is that mystery girl is given "bones to arrange ("just whatever feels normal")" and "the sword would be put in her hand again by the person who looked after her" (505-506)
This would make sense for cam and pal to do if they knew it was someone in Harrow's body, bc they knew that both harrow (a necromancer) and Gideon (a cavalier) had been in that body previously.
Side note, "the sword" could be referring to gideon's two-hander, more evidence for it being Harrow's body, bc otherwise how would they have gotten the sword?

A chronological reading of Harrow the Ninth
Note: this guide assumes htn has already been read and is not spoiler free.
This is my best guess as to the order of the events of the book chronologically. Since some things very clearly happen simultaneously (harrow in the river bubble and Gideon in her body for example) I have chosen an order to read those events in. This is fairly arbitrary and I will note that where possible.
The general timeline will be:
River bubble events at Canaan house up to and including the AUs
Present day events (Erebos and Mithraeum) up to Harrow getting stabbed
River bubble after Harrow becomes conscious
Gideon in Harrow's body
6 months after the emperors murder
All page numbers are for the paperback edition.
River bubble Canaan House
chapter 3 pg. 47-54 Harrow's childhood
chapter Parodos pg. 19-23 (14 months before) the summons
chapter 5 pg. 68-72 shuttle to Canaan
chapter 8 pg. 108-115 Canaan intro
chapter 10 pg. 127-135 Ortus reading Noniad
chapter 18 pg. 180-185 Deuteros' body
chapter 21 pg. 197-206 Pal and Cams bodies
chapter 26 pg. 236-238 Silas kills Corona
chapter 28 pg. 248-354 Harrow admits her madness
chapter 35 pg. 323-330 teacher leaves
the AUs
Given that we have no info on the timing of these I am placing them in the order they are presented in the book. At the very least they should be read before harrow awakens in the river bubble due to this line: "we have no idea of the limitations in those other scenarios" (379)
chapter 40 pg. 367-371 Harrow Nova (reverse roles)
chapter 41 pg. 372-374 Divine Highness arranged marriage
chapter 42 pg. 375-378 cohort coffee shop
Erebos
I'm not actually totally sure if the lobotomy happens on the Erebos or at Canaan house but it's the earliest thing in the book so it goes first.
chapter Epiparodos pg. 360-364 (9 months and 29 days before) the lobotomy
chapter 1 pg. 27-31 (9 months before) Jod gives her the sword

My #1 post of 2022
Every time the body speaks in HTN
(In chronological order)
"the Body of the Locked Tomb had not spoken to you since the night you massaged the purple, swollen clots of blood out of the necks of your dead parents" (44)
This directly contradicts the next quote, from before Harrow goes to Canaan house.
"This isn't how it happens, said the Body. (23)
This is 14 months before the emperors murder, when Harrow is asking Ortus to be her cavalier. Side note: this is the only time the Body is present or speaks in the dream bubble/altered past.
"What he is saying," said the Body distinctly, "is that you have to learn that sword." (44)
Harrow talking to God about revenant beasts. She describes the the Body's voice as
"its dry uncanny echo of other voices you had known: your mother's, Crux's." (44)
She then replies to the body with:
"I can't," you said as carefully as possible. "I can't, beloved. It's gone." [...]
"You are walking down a long passage," said the Body. "You need to turn around."
"I am standing in the dark," you told her. [...] "I lost it. It's gone. There's nothing there. I must have misapprehended the process. I am half a Lyctor. I am nothing, I am pointless, I am unmanned." (45)
This is (presumably) before Ianthe gives her the letters and tells her of the work.
"How old are you?" she [Mercymorn] asked abruptly. "How old are you in years?" [...]
It was then that the Body emerged from behind the Lyctor's shoulder [...] and she said, quite clearly, with the voice of Aiglamene and your mother commingled:
"Lie, Harrow. Now." (77)
This is when Mercy first captures Harrow.
a dream wherein you sat down to dinner opposite the Body. [...] you talked comfortably of very little—yet it felt as thought it meant very much. [...]
Then the Body looked at you with those direct, incalculable eyes, and she said: "Harrowhark. Wake up."
"Pardon?"
"Wake up. Now." (207)
She is warning Harrow to get up to see Wake in Cytheria's corpse.
Aloud, you said through swollen lips: "The Saint of Duty must die."
And on the bed, the Body said, "Yes." (226)
Right after G1deon breaks through her wards in her room.
Next to you, the Body said quietly, "The water is risen. So is the sun. We will endure." (294)
After Harrow chooses not to kill G1deon and Wake in Cytheria's corpse escapes.
You said, "Beloved?"
She said, "It's coming," with the most anticipatory astonishment you had ever heard from her in her low, many-personed voice—right then she used the voice of your father's cavalier. And: "It's near!" [...]

Oh my gosh it’s here!! I remember reading spotless minds a while ago and to wake up to find eternal sunshine posted was an absolute treat !
spoilers below??
It didn’t even feel like 30k+ words. I enjoyed every single word. I loved how everything kind of came back full circle, the message about grief, healing and moving forward was really 🥺🥺 dear to me. I was really nervous that reader would spiral again and I’m really happy and appreciative of how things unfolded.
Also! There was this one part in the smut that I found was absolutely dizzying. I’m a bit shy to point out which part…lmao. But just imagining Hobi the way you described him definitely made me all hot and bothered !!
I’m interested to know what your favourite part of the creative process was ?? Or how it was in general? This story seemed like a very fun concept to explore ☺️
Yayyyy!! I'm glad that I was able to brighten up your morning a little with this story 😆😆
omg I'm so glad that you didn't find the fic length somehow draining. I never expected to have it this long and I kept holding back cause I was worried that it would feel like the story was stalling, but in the end, I figured 'oh, what the hell' and let it grow the way it did so we could get a better closure for the story lol
About the reader, that's actually what I wanted to show everyone through this epilogue. In the past, whenever she went into a spiral during her hardships, she would keep it to herself and shut down instead of reaching out. In the present, she's grown to become someone who can communicate her feelings better. now, she's holding on to Hoseok when she feels powerless instead of shutting him away, and she's open to talking about her concerns and questioning everything until she finds her closure.
Ooohh, now I'm curious which part of the smut it was lol I have to be honest, writing the smut was the part that I enjoyed the most. Hoseok has been driving me nuts lately so I kind of projected everything into these scenes 😆
I love that you asked about the creative process. It actually WAS fun! I've watched the movie that inspired me so many times I think I have all the important scenes recorded permanently in my head lol But while I was writing this, I did it without rewatching the movie at all so I wouldn't get too affected by it.
Another part that I love to work on was stitching between the missing memories and their present lives, and showing that everything is going in circles without the pair ever really realised it. I didn't enjoy writing the conversations lol except for the one between (spoiler) OC and Hana's mom.
I'm actually thinking of releasing a trivia to show the hints in the story, small parts of my creative process while working on this, and some links that connect this story to the movie it was adapted from (since I did input some metaphors that people who watched the movie might catch on) and how it's connected to some of my other fics. Idk if anyone will be interested to see that 😆😆 but I'll probably share it soon
Thank you for reading the story, and for loving them through Spotless Minds

ok a little bit of (maybe bullshit) costume analysis here for your consideration: the triangle pocket on Mike’s shirt here... reminded me of the triangle symbol used on the pink triangle pride flag. (not to mention the fact the muppet poster behind him has a rainbow on it already lmao)
(the first flag pic is taken from footage of one of the ACT UP protests of the 80s)
EDIT: now that there’s confirmation from Finn that this outfit was handmade for Mike this season... I’m gonna post this again lol.
Tumblr media
[tw for the Keep Reading section: contains references to/images of gay men in N*zi concentration camps and discusses the persecution of gay men. nothing graphic, but i wanted to put a warning just in case...]
(+ disclaimer: i am not a historian or prominent activist, any and all of this research has been conducted by myself and is limited to what i have currently seen/read. i do not claim to be an expert. some of the information i have may be faulty, plain wrong, or now outdated. feel free to let me know if you spot anything that is incorrect, has bad sources, or is disrespectful so i can fix it!)
now, while i certainly would hope mike’s struggle with identity and his feelings would become more overt over the course of the season, if this is where they’re going to officially take mike’s character, it would make sense to have the first few episodes using mostly coding/subtext to convey Mike’s confusion  until mike feels ready to talk about it and feels he has the right words so it doesn’t feel too abrupt to general viewers not as closely following/used to decoding subtext (which would also make sense because, again, in-universe he likely doesn’t have the words to describe his feelings and experience just yet).
so, without further ado, here are some more examples of the pink triangle and how these messages and their imagery could tie into a possible arc where we see Mike struggling with his sexuality this season...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the famous SILENCE = DEATH flag here also reminded me so much of Mike likely having a ‘One Way’ or ‘This Way’ sign pointed directly towards his closet in his room back in Hawkins... aka he will have to stay silent/in the closet if he stays in Hawkins or doesn’t get away for a while to ‘find himself’. now combine this with the fact that Mike is going to Cali for spring break and therefore getting a chance to get out and far away from Hawkins (and his “closet”), that makes his upcoming arc this season even more compelling to me.. if i am onto something here.
+ since this season will likely already contain heavy themes of how, over time, the continual Lack of Access to Info, Spreading Misinfo & Cover Ups, Repression, Secrets, Lies, and Mistrust as a result of those Lies = Escalation of Tension and even Death [be it a physical or metaphorical death, of self/of relationships/trust/community/etc] what with Vecna being the new big bad or whatever, it would make sense more than ever for them to tackle this side of Mike’s character this season...
as it seems like the 2019 HBO Limited Series on Chernobyl has inspired a lot of the visuals/coloring for this season (and the Duffers even managed to snag the makeup artist from the series to work on the makeup/SFX for Vecna this season), I’d imagine this quote could apply to this season’s themes just as well: “What is the cost of lies? It's not that we'll mistake them for the truth. The real danger is that if we hear enough lies, then we no longer recognize the truth at all.” and these political themes are certainly still just as relevant today as they were in the 80′s.
(separating this bit from the rest since it’s a bit of a detour from the topic as it pertains to themes of this season/series as a whole, rather than relating to specifically Mike’s struggles with sexuality..)
+ [ST4 SPOILERS AHEAD] the themes of ‘going out west’: consider the lyrics from the song that plays over Mike reading his letter from El, California Dreamin’, “i’d be safe and warm if i was in LA...” (compare this to how Will described the ‘Upside Down’ as somewhere dark, empty, dangerous and cold..) and how also in the letter, one of the lines El pens is ‘I think you will love it here [in California].’ when Cali is ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(blue text’s source: http://picturethis.museumca.org/timeline/reagan-years-1980s/gay-lesbian-rights/info)
[the potential for any ST4 SPOILERS currently leaked Ends Here.]
now, onto the triangle symbol itself. the upside down pink triangle symbol was made infamous as a piece of pink cloth that was sewn onto the uniforms of gay men in N*zi concentration camps as a way to identify them and persecute them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the placement of these patches was located where the right breast pocket was/would be. so maybe you can see why i immediately did a double take seeing that triangle on the right-side pocket of mike’s shirt.. again, i would certainly hope they’d get more overt as the season goes along-- but i could understand using these subtle cues to the LGBT viewers at first as a way to sort of signal that ‘hey this is where we’re going with this character’
i believe this history ties in as well with a theme in ST of how the 80′s a lot of knowledge and access to information could be more easily limited/relegated to what media you were able to see or read due to there not being an easily accessible source of endless information (and misinfo alike lol) in most people’s homes like we have now. a lot of the history on the pink triangles was difficult to divulge for a long time as well, due to the ongoing persecution of the LGBT community-- so it was unsafe or just didn’t seem wise at the time for survivors, who had already been forced to endure such unspeakable trauma, to hold onto these things which would likely only serve as painful ‘reminders’ for most.
Tumblr media
of course, this could all just be coincidence... it could just so happen that they wanted a simple shape and the one they used was a triangle, maybe the costume designer just likes that shape for pockets, or maybe it was generally a popular design in the 80′s (i’m not a fashion expert, nor was i coming of age in the 1980′s so sorry i’m not sure either way there lol)... but if it isn’t a coincidence, i could see this being a visual representation of mike’s fears of his secret being ‘found out’ while also aimlessly signaling how he desperately wants someone who is gay to notice the signals he’s giving off-- he wants someone who understands to answer his changed demeanor as the cry for help it is. it’s even harder to ask for help when you don’t currently have the words for what it is you’re struggling with, because that isn’t me saying mike consciously was thinking these things when he chose that shirt, but rather it’s a way of conveying the subtext/what mike is feeling and thinking by the designers to the audience through recognizable symbols.
(here are some links to sources with more information on the pink triangles:
/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kj-wGkcyTL8&ab_channel=UnitedStatesHolocaustMemorialMuseum

/ https://www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/the-men-with-the-pink-triangle-heinz-heger)
the pink triangle was a symbol eventually reclaimed by LGBT activists and became a more well-known symbol amongst the community and then to the general public in the late 80′s/90′s. sometimes this reclamation involved turning the triangle from upside down to right-side up, as a “reversal” of its original usage, and has since been used and adapted as such onscreen... take, for example, one of the costume designs for Dr. Frank ‘N' Furter here...

but again.. this could all be a massive stretch so.. just take it with a grain of salt! these are purely inferences i’ve made thru my own lens where i recognize a lot of this imagery pretty immediately so i have a bias probably lol.
+ new addition post-s4: I also found it interesting the parallel between how the Act Up organization made their own shirts for protests and how Dustin makes specific mention of how The Hellfire Club makes their own t-shirts..

Spoiler Warning for like almost all of the second episode of Starstruck Odyssey
OKAY SO I have no one I know who watches/cares about this and the first episode was hard enough but I've gotten to a certain point where I need to express my fucking bullshit internal monologue at all this nonsense so I'm sending it into the Tumblr void, starting with:
IS HIS REAL CHARACTER THE FUCKING PARASITE IM GONNA SCREAM
Rip anyone who was really attached to the Skipper lmao
I can't believe everyone was like wow, Zac is getting to unleash his inner cunt, just like with Lapin, he's breaking the mold from his usual character type- NO! xD we get that for one episode then back to lovely, slightly off but very amicable characters, Zac cannot play just a straight asshole for an entire campaign it's physically impossible the universe won't allow it
God they know, they KNOW the skipper has been body-jacked or some shit and they do not give a single fuck coz by god that funky lil parasite is so much nicer xD
The value of kindness my dudes lmao
"Can we have *insert ridiculous and/or dangerous thing here*?"
"OkAy" *shrugs*
"Roll an insight and deception check against yourself"
Ally: 'do a hotness roll?'
Brennan: *does a hotness roll, winces*
Brennan: 'shes stunning'
'im not gonna brush my teeth tonight just to feel something'
'i psychic dump ✨the feeling of being myself✨ onto you'
'i want to be able to want something without needing someone else to want it too and without thinking of a practical reason'
Cool welp I'm gonna go cry in a corner but everything is fine, Emily how dare you.
Take a shot everytime Brennan says 'want' if you want to die of alcohol poisoning
'gunnie doesn't really own anything because anything he owns is taken by the people he owes money to' LOU IS2G MAN
Do you think like the D20 team were seeing all that love for Skipper after the first ep and just 👀😅 because they knew the second episode was basically just gonna be 'yeah so actually he's a dick, fuck that guy'
(Like I ain't mad at it personally tbh, I think loveable assholes should be loveable in the context of the universe they preside, not just from an outside perspective and like I get it was only one episode but he wasn't seeming too loveable tbh with the way things were going)
Parasite!Skip just saying 'youre important' to Margaret?
IM SOBBING, I love him
You gotta love the like classic 'abstract alien perception' thingie Brendan and Zac have going like, "there is a build up of some internal secretion in your lower appendages" Brennan, my dude, my guy, what the FUCK does that mean xD
Brennan: "You can see your eyes are getting kinda bloodshot"
Zac: "Oh am I forgetting to blink?"
Brennan (who definitely meant he's getting tired): 👀😈 "give me a check to find out"
THE SECRETION IS LACTIC ACID IN HIS QUADS COZ THE DUMB BITCH HASNT SAT THE FUCK DOWN
I love this, truly a crew full of dumbasses and Margret who is I think getting dumber by association, yes, this is how it should be
YES SID! ENJOY YOUR EXPLOSIONS BABY I LOVE YOU!
Right on!!!
I could listen to Mr Mulligan describe fantasy planets all day man, yes please tell me more about the blood red gas giant with swirling diamond dust I'm utterly enamored with this good good visual imagery caressing my brain
(channels Zelda) YES 👏 SID 👏 FEEEEL 👏 IIIIIITTTT!!!! 👏
I would fucking die for Sundry Sidney my poor baby (ಥ﹏ಥ)
Margret's Reddit account:
One post of really important whistleblower documents totally exposing her company and calling for a revolution
Another post (only a day after the first one) that is just a neck down nude selfie
*Guy selling sandwiches asking if Riva has a mouth and a butthole*
The cast: oh no it's a sex thing!
*Guy coming to the conclusion that Riva can eat a sandwich*
The cast: oh, it's a… sandwich thing?
Someone teach Riva about lying please, the poor babey
Put your tongue AWAY sir (can't believe I was saying that to Lou and not Brennan xD)
(Not that Brennan kept his tongue in this this episode, I think I'm just desensitized at this point)
Gunnie on a high is a delight
THE 'MY FARTS SMELL AWESOME' CLIP FROM THE TRAILER WAS HIM COVERING FOR AN (EXPENSIVE) PERFUME BOMB THAT SID UNLEASHED!?
'we didn't take names coz we didn't ask them'
The commitment to them all making it so much worse. I've never seen a group of people collect so many disadvantages on their rolls by just being unapologetically ridiculous
The sudden fucking SWITCH between them all cry laughing at the table and then Brennan saying that one thing about the Barrys and Murph's face just drops, all signs of joy VANISHED
Okay I know we've never met this Princeps Zorch but I think Margret should date them
OH!? Lucienne is nearby? 👀
JUST THE THREE OF THEM CLOBBERING A GUY THAT HASNT EVEN HAD A CHANCE TO STAND UP
He managed to make one (1) dramatic threat then they all fuckin beat the shit out of him xD
Episode ends and their ship is still utterly fucked, beautiful
If I sounded insane this whole time i blaming it on the fact that the episodes released at midnight for me

it’s the way that sjm is really just spinning her wheel of adjectives for most of these cc2 spoilers and people are taking every phrase as a ship confirmation lmao
my god
She does have a very distinctive style. I get that. I've talked plenty of crap about it in my time.
But there is a difference between using "glowing" to describe light, its most literal use, and the way she uses it as an extended metaphor, multiple times, over three series and 12 books (idek how many books) to describe a mating bond, a trope that we know she treasures and will force every one of her main characters to have.
Magic = glowing. That much is very, very clear. The mating bond is magic. It's not rocket science. Watch all these people say that it's obvious that Ruhn and Lidia are mates (which it was!) and then dismiss similar evidence for gwynriel.
Okay, sure.
And the fact that all I had to do was post these two quotes without any explanation or analysis or anything? It's because the meaning of these two scenes is obvious...
