Byler Fanfic Recommendation‼️

Quick warning:

⚠️ Do not pursue reading this fanfiction if you have issues, or are uncomfortable with Lonnie calling Will "certain slurs", or are not an enjoyer of fanfiction that dives into the trauma of Will and his father's relationship. ⚠️

i don't usually go back to reread fanfic because i feel like it can never hit me as hard the second time, but lord KNOWS i'm coming back to reread this MASTERPIECE. like jesus christ i was sobbing along with them, my heart was pounding along with them, i was giggling along with them IM GOING INSANE OVER THIS STORY. i genuinely dont think i can find any words in the dictionary to describe how i feel about it, or emojis, so i'll try my best with describing my favorite bits.

the pacing was my absolute favorite aspect of this story. a very big part of making any plot is the progression, obviously. there are many stories i've read where i wished they'd revealed it just a bit sooner, or kept certain things a secret for a bit longer, but i had absolutely no issues with the way things progressed. if i had to rank fanfic based off the pacing, i would put this at the top. everything felt like it was happening at the exact time it should.

i think a lot of fanfic writers (including myself) have issues with attempting to address relationships (romantic, platonic, or familial) which include characters we feel anger, or disgust towards. when this happens, we either don't include these characters at all, or they're written in ways where you can tell the writer didn't feel as enthusiastic about advancing their plot. but the way Lonnie and Will's relationship was addressed was genuinely one of, if not the best representation of their relationship i've seen. the way Will describes his confusion on why he feels certain things about his father, to me at least, is an accurate portrayal of how i see it being canonically.

and lastly, their RELATIONSHIP. i'm only saying this because i don't think it counts as a spoiler, and it happens in literally every ship fanfic ever, but their LOVE FOR EACH OTHER. their FLIRTING. THEIR EVERYTHING MADE ME JEALOUS. the giggles i was giggling were louder and happier than my average reading fanfic giggles. Mike's genuine want to fix things so Will could be happy, and him fumbling so many times had me spiraling but also feeling optimistic 'cause, i mean, it's them.

they always fix things in the end... right?

I feel like sometimes when I’m trying to explain tenamy I sound like I’m explaining a more fucked up elevenamy but while those two are similar they are different is a way. Tenamy would have fucking ruled, bro. Their dynamic would be a supernova waiting to happen, two parallel lines that crossed and are at the brink of separation.

They’d have a sense of humanity that others couldn’t provide. Her raggedy doctor would remember the 2.47 billion he slaughtered. He would be youthful and whimsical and jaded and cruel. Not only would he want to be worshipped, he needs it. Ten responds to love greater than other incarceration because he was born to do so, and he is doomed by the narrative to lose every single instance of it because of himself. Sometimes it just comes down to biology, sometimes his behaviour. He likes to be Amy’s favourite, he is jealous when he is confronted with the fact that despite that, she will pick Rory. And he thinks it ought to be Rory, but she is his companion. She would be his Amelia Pond who would either make him better or worse. He is the cause of her being targeted, and he is the one after all who hates guns but imprisoned a family into forever torture…

The reason I’m going from a more Ten perspective is because I still need to do some revision of Amy and be able to coherently explain my thoughts. But tenamy would work for her too. And by tenamy ‘working’ I mean them being so interesting and not often in an (entirely) healthy way, because being honest, not a lot of doctor/companion bonds are.

Apparently, my decision to be silly and make fanart of someone's writing (because I genuinely enjoy the story the person is writing and I was struck with inspiration upon reading a particular scene) has benevolent and wildly unforeseen consequences.

I apparently gained a bit of control of the canon because said writer really loved the art and decided what I drew/draw is canon.

2. Writer put said artwork into the document of his story right below the scene, so now it's IN the story where people who read the story will see it (with a link to me)

3. He sent the artwork to all his friends and people he knows because he was so excited

Wholesome interaction and I watched him do all that in real time, good stuff. However...there are two more consequences I was notified of today...nearly a full week after I gave the artwork.

Seeing the artwork caused his friends to become interested in reading and hearing about his story, which means more people are reading what he's writing and giving him critique on the story (which he actively asks for).

Apparently, upon seeing the art, his writer friends got a sudden second wind to pick back up writing they'd abandoned for a few months. Because, I quote, "seeing that someone enjoyed {his} writing enough to take the time to make art of it gave them the motivation that maybe THEY can write something that will inspire someone to also create something." I have accidentally caused a writing frenzy among his writer friends and my silly idea to make art for someone has had a butterfly effect for people who I don't even know.

Uhh...I'm pretty sure there's a moral here but I am tired and have a great deal of emotions about this.

it's come to my attention that a lot of people don't know about bluemaxima's flashpoint and genuinely think they'll never be able to play their favorite 00s internet games ever again so i just want to remind everyone that flashpoint is a huge internet flash game preservation project that allows you to play just about any internet flash game/animation despite the death of flash. if they've got it in their database (and they probably do) you can play it. go forth and drink in the 00s nostalgia
