Can you have a post about top 5 entries from Norway?
Okay, Norway has so many amazing songs that I really can't pick just 5. Even some of their lower placed songs such as Branderburger Tor were great! (0 points, really?)
Actually if you know my blog for quite a while you might probably know who will be my 1st. Or my 2nd or 3rd. (Hint 2 of them are winners and the other won the televote lol)
5. Silent storm (2014)
This performance is so powerful yet so mellow especially in the first part. Love how after the bridge it just violently hits me in the guts with emotions. So incredibly amazing, I really love this one.
4. Alle mine tankar (1993)
It has this melancholic, mysterious and even a bit eerie sound which I love. Sounds like the kind of song I'd fall asleep near the fireplace after a long tiring day in the winter.
3. Nocturne (1995)
Yeah, no surprises starting from here, this is just so magical and dreamy that I couldn't resist not putting it in this top. It's my go-to song when I'm feeling anxious, like I really don't know what to add more, beautiful instrumental, the lines in norwegian are so hauntingly wonderful, overall, a great esc winner in my opinion.
2. Spirit in the sky (2019)
Ah yes, the song that got me out of depression back in 2019. And still does. Like I probably said before, I can't get tired of this song. So upbeat and uplifting, and every line just speaks to my soul, yes, even the joik.
1. Fairytale (2009)
You probably expected this, just imagine my reaction when I found out in 2018 (aka when I was still a new fan) that Rybak, whose song that year was one of my favorites (please don't judge) was in fact an esc winner. I literally went bonkers for this and thought dude bro this is even better than thywas hello?? And became my jam since. 😌
Honorable mentions: Voi voi (1960), Oliver (1979), Samiid Ædnan (1980), La det swinge (1985), Romeo (1986), For vår jord (1988), Branderburger tor (1990), Visjoner (1992), Evighet (1996), In my dreams (2005), Alvedansen (2006), Hold on, be strong (2008), I feed you my love (2013), A monster like me (2015), That's how you write a song (2018), Attention (2020), Fallen Angel (2021), Give that wolf a banana (2022)

I present to you...
Tumblr media
Stop-Motion Photos!!
[from the Fireman Sam Annual 1988 !]
I LOVE THESE SO MUCH these are ... mostly the reason why i bought the annual before waiting for a better price (fucking $70 for the bastard)
i Cannot under any circumstances wait to receive my daily dose of puppet people /j
Tumblr media
Here we go! Teeny Jupiter on an unspecified road! I’ve never noticed that ladder before in the show, i wonder if Pontypandy was sort of built by water originally?? or maybe that road is built across a mini dam; I remember in one of the buzz books there was a story about everyone going to the beach and idk if it specified how close or far it was from the village but 👀 there were houses in the background.
Tumblr media
Have i ever said how much i love Normans stupid little haircut.. ITS LIKE HE NEVER COMBS IT its a fuckimg mop turn him upside down and drag him across the floor. no but please give him a lil ponytail or a bun and watch him suffer /hj ALSO THE FLOWERING PLANT GROWING FROM THE TOP OF THAT VIADUCT,, I LOVE HOW MUCH DETAIL THERE IS IN ALL THE SETS!
Tumblr media
We can get a good look at Dilys’s hair in this, kind of forgot she has hair OOPS.. but like for real i wonder what it would look like when her curlers were taken out?? hate or love the girl she’s got to have some bitchin’ hair /pos
AS WELL AS SAM, IDK WHAT IT IS ABOUT THESE PICTURES BUT ITS JUST..... SO INVIGORATING TO SEE THEIR FACES UP CLOSE IN HIGH QUALITY LO0K AT THE MAN!! LOOK AT HIS STUPID PAPER MOUTH i want to eat it . and the way his quiff fucking dips down at the end I LOVE HOW UNKEMPT IT LOOKED IN THE FIRST THREE SEASONS LIKE YEAH HONEY GO JUST GET UP AND BRUSH YOUR HAIR WITH A TOOTHBRUSH
Tumblr media
Here's Bella, the awesome woaman who didn’t deserve to be stereotyped as an idiot in most of the booksssss 😬 but like... ngl damn she looks fine *wrist flick* not that im a lesbian but......................... /hj
anyways i would love to see her hair upclose its so fucking pretty I LOVE her sense of fashion too bih pleasge let me see the rest of your wardrobe
Tumblr media
the puppies :) i have no idea what kind of hairstyle James is supposed to have AT ALL but.. i kind of like to think he styles it a bit after his uncle, but his hair is longer so he makes do with a hefty fuckin cowlick and omf PLEASE with the little hairs sticking out on the crown of their heads i want that utilized more in general please
also also im kinda jealous of Sarah’s overalls girl please who tf made those for you or WHERE DID YOU BUY THEM bc i want pink overalls with a scenic tree in the center
Tumblr media
Poopiter once again pulling into the fire station driveway.. love how awkward and unbalanced the house on the left is LOL i also rly like the implications that Pontypandy has a very condensed neighborhood area and the high street (inlcudes Dilys’s shop, Bella’s cafe, the park) is rly the only market place in town n then the outskirts are almost NOTHING
Tumblr media
EELIVS MY BELOVED HELLO!! I LOVE this picture for... two reasons mostly, one is because of Elvis thats literally it. jk but GOD im .imfm,,, i love how he’s so tall his shirt sleeves (and sometimes the collar) stick out of his uniform and ig his hair looks so malleable i want to compress it with a hydraulic press. i wonder how much pomade he goes through in a week?? the other reason is that... Jupiter’s tire looks VERY out of place, in the sense that it looks like she’s almost tilted to the side somehow?? Like gurl you dont look like you’re planted on the ground 🙄
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND THEN FINALLY THIS ONE!! This is the exact picture Sam keeps on his nightstand minus Sarah and James, which is super cool to me honestly;;; bc like i can just imagine they were both plucked from the set after their picture was taken and just shoved somewhere else (delicately, they are flowers) Theres two versions of Fireman Sam i love; one is the show and the other is the puppets themselves. i have such a burning desire to go and rob them from whoever owns them and just. holld them 🥺 do i overshare my thoughts? yes i do but this may be the only chance i get and im going at it 100%
..................
im... so sorry for literally only posting random pictures from all the annuals i own and that are also NOT ONLINE FOR PEOPLE TO VIEW... I SWEAR ill upload them all to internet archive at some point
i also need to .yknow WRITE, OR DRAW AND NOT JUST SHARE TEHSE although yall seem to like them :) unfortunately tho there aren’t any other pictures like these in the annuals :(
anyway YES HERE YOU GO another weeks-worth of me rambling about pictures of puppets i love with all my heart

boys (1991, dir. tsai ming-liang) past present (2013, dir. saw tiong guan)* run away (1984, dir. wang toon) the game they call sex (1987, dir. wang shaudi, roy chin, sylvia chang) knives out (2019, dir. rian johnson) drive my car (2021, dir. ryusuke hamaguchi)* damnation (1988, dir. béla tarr)* the ceremony (1971, dir. nagisa oshima) armour of god (1986, dir. jackie chan & eric tsang) memoria (2021, dir. apichatpong weerasethakul)*
---
so cool to have tsai's tv work and see how he could make great conventional narrative films too.
ive passively thought of tsai as a meek artist who is very lucky to have had the career he's had. but past present showed me how confident and independent he had to be to go to a foreign country (taiwan) and make a name for himself in the film/art industry. how the confidence and independence he developed was the result of having come from a very particular time and place.
between the two films i watched that tsai co-wrote for (run away and the game they call sex), two things struck me. one was the depiction of rape (in the former) and sexual assault (in the latter). maybe, in part, cheap sensationalist moves on the part of the filmmakers, but also evidently some sincere probing into human sexuality. because the other thing that struck me was how well written the films were (not that tsai gets all the credit for that). run away starts off like it may be a seven samurai clone but it turns out to be an incisive portrait of a disappearing way of life (banditry). and the game they call sex sounds like it's gonna be about sex lol but it's really an incisive portrait of women's experiences in a patriarchal, heteronormative society.
i always enjoy a rian johnson movie. i saw brick in high school, and last jedi was clearly the best of the newer star wars trilogy. knives out was also fun... a well done entertainment film can still bring me to the edge of my seat, but honestly the thrill is short lived as i am too well acquainted with the hollowness at the heart of such distractions. apparently, unfortunately, this is not what feeds my soul, so i must look elsewhere.
drive my car was about as good as they say. kitschy writing but the scenes really breathe. a breezy three hours, now that's a nice thing.
ive always been too impatient with movies, always thinking "how is there an hour left of this?" even though logically i know that's not so much time and much more time passes if i binge a tv show. nonetheless there was a knot in my mind, perhaps i was still not used to the flow of slower movies even after all this time. still looking for the wrong thing. looking at the looking in the wrong way. but i do feel now, finally, a bit of that tension loosen.
two hours is not so long. but a spell, but a dream.
so much racism and sexism to wade through just to see jackie chan do some cool jumps. unpalatable. 90 minutes is a long time when you have so little time.
memoria: joe's take on headless woman? another diptych. not a violent rain but a raining violence. right before the climax i had to pause and take a nap. i was so tired but didn't realize until the movie showed me.
what i like tells you too much about me. what i lack (courage), what i have (if anything). is what is "good" all the same? are the depths of my existence so narrow?

Prompt 10 in fluff for 1988💜. I need some cheering up today lol
10. “Did you just kiss me?”
Me: Ok but what if… there was only one bed? 👀
They get into the hotel in the early hours of the morning after the rest of the team has long since retired for the night. Late wining and dining with the front office—all duties of a decade-plus partnership.
“I am so sorry,” the man at the front desk is saying to somebody on the Hawks staff whose job it is to handle these things. “There must have been a mistake with the booking.”
He’s offering refunds and discounts on future visits but all Patrick can think about is how bone-tired he is, swaying on his feet.
“What’s the issue?” he barges into the conversation, jaw clicking as he yawns.
So they’re short a room. No biggie.
“I’ll just share with Tazer,” he shrugs. “Not like we haven’t done it before.”
An equally exhausted Jonny nods absently in agreement, stretching out his arms above his head, face scrunching up.
Of course the only rooms left are those with single queens. It’s not as if they can’t go kick out some of the rookies, but Patrick just doesn’t have the energy for dealing with that kind of thing right now.
Patrick snorts, “Not like we haven’t done that before either.” Admittedly not as often, but one too many parties where they’ve been too fucked up to get themselves home ensure that it’s happened at least once or twice.
He sleepily accepts the keycard and staggers towards the elevator, not bothering to check if Jonny is following him or not.
It’s funny how many years can pass and yet the pair of them settle right back into the way they familiarly orbit one another in a confined space. Jonny wordlessly claims the side of the bed closest to the bathroom, leaving Patrick with his side of the room by the window.
They get ready for bed in tandem, both still a little tipsy, Patrick brushing his teeth while Jonny removes as many items of clothing as he can whilst still being considered ‘decent.’ They trade places and by the time Jonny asks if he can turn off the lights, Patrick is facedown in a pillow, humming an affirmative response.
Jonny unspools under the sheets, limbs stretching. His knee accidentally bumps up against Patrick’s hip but neither of them say anything.
Patrick snuffles into the pillow, allows his head to be filled with the rhythmic pulse of the air-conditioning and Jonny’s annoying yet nostalgic mouthbreathing.
But there’s something tense trapped in the air, a static charge that was never there when they were younger, waiting to strike.
“Jonny?” Patrick rolls over onto his back.
“Mm?”
“Goodnight,” Patrick mutters, glancing towards him in the dark. In the near pitch blackness of the room he can’t tell if Jonny is looking at him or not.
“G’night,” Jonny breathes and casually leans over, pressing his mouth chastely against Patrick’s.
He rolls back over and sinks into the mattress, calm as anything, as if what he just did isn’t completely insane.
“Um,” Patrick says to the hotel room ceiling, blinking furiously. He can’t help but dart his tongue out to trace the tingling skin on his bottom lip. “Did you just kiss me?”
He feels rather than sees Jonny turn back towards him, sheets rustling as his weight shifts. “Oh. Sorry. Force of habit.”
Jonny’s voice sounds neutral but Patrick can imagine the bright blush that must be furiously spreading across his face.
He almost feels bad for the guy—newly single Jonathan Toews still daydreaming of domesticity—but there’s an emotion blooming in his gut that isn’t just pity. Patrick wants to blame the warmth blossoming in his chest to the dregs of alcohol in his system, but realistically he knows he’s nearly entirely sobered up by now. It’s not as if he’s ever really thought about what it might be like to kiss Jonny before. But now that it’s happened, it fills up every frame in his mind.
Jonny’s bare thigh presses up against his with cautious intent, sending another jolt through Patrick’s body. He feels decidedly nervous.
“Jonny?” he says again, praying for a do-over.
“Mm?” Jonny hums for a second time.
This time Patrick is the one who leans over impulsively, propping himself up on one elbow and catching Jonny’s jaw with gentle fingers. He strokes a thumb over Jonny’s lips, tracing the tough stripe of scarred skin he knows is there. Patrick wants to lean down and taste it so he does. Opens Jonny’s mouth carefully with his own, exploring the shape of it with his tongue. Jonny kisses back happily, rising up to meet him, threading one leg innocently between Patrick’s.
They stay like that for a while, swapping lazy kisses, lips and limbs intertwined, before the last of his energy starts to drain. He pulls back and settles into the bed, pressing his worn body up against Jonny’s and looping an arm around him, reeling him in tight.
“Goodnight,” he whispers against Jonny’s lips.
“G’night.”
He feels the curve of Jonny’s quiet smile in response.

I know there’s plenty of overlap between these two fandoms. DM or inbox me if you’d like to be added to the taglist!
Synopsis: Marina considers herself to be a normal teenager, despite both being the daughter of a senator and the center of many bizarre happenings throughout her life. However, everything gets turned upside down when her whole family is kidnapped. In that moment of fear, something within her awakens. Little does she know, this power is called a Stand, and she has caught the eye of the worst person imaginable. Marina must learn to master her stand, and decide where her loyalties lie: with the man who saved her life or with her newfound friends?
Warnings: Violence, frightening scenes, language, and Dio being toxic lol
March 6th, 1988
Cool water enveloped her body. Everything was cloaked in a sea green haze.
She was laying on the bottom of the riverbed, staring up at the muted sun. A crocodile swam by, almost lazily. It did not notice her, and she didn't feel scared.
It was just a crocodile.
"Marina... Marina, wake up already!"
Something cold and clammy grasped the 17-year-old girl's foot. Marina let out a scream and quickly recoiled under the soft white linens on her bed. "Five more minutes, mom!"
Marina’s mother scowled at her only daughter. She was already dressed in long, light pants and a tropical looking shirt. An over-sized hat adorned her head atop dark brown hair, a few shades lighter than her only daughter's. "Marina, we have five minutes before the ship docks. Dad's already gone up to eat."
"Well, that's just Dad," the girl grumbled back, pulling the covers more tightly around her shoulders, as if this cocoon would keep her safe from her mother's impending wrath. "He gets up early every day, that shouldn't mean that we also have to be up at the crack of dawn."
"It's not the crack of dawn, it's nearly ten o'clock already. The ship is running a little early, so we'll have more time to explore Alexandria."
Marina's only reply was a grunt. Her mother sighed. "What is it with you this morning?" She shook her head and swung her bag over her shoulder. "I'll be up on the top deck watching us dock. It's nice and warm outside, so dress accordingly. We'll see you in five minutes, or it's going to be a very long time before you get to go on another cruise, young lady." A few moments later, and the door shut.
Marina groaned and finally blinked her eyes open, immediately feeling the pounding pain of a migraine wash over her temple. Ouch... did I have a nightmare last night? Usually I sleep like a baby on these cruises.
Marina and her family had been on numerous cruises throughout her life. Her father, Mitchell Porosus was a state senator, and earned a comfortable paycheck, so the Porosus family was able to go on trips whenever congress was on a break. Marina wished her dad was around more, but overall the family dynamic was happy and harmonious. Marina had her 17th birthday recently, and this cruise was supposed to be a celebration of that.
“You know what that means?” her father had told her that day. “You’re the same age as the Dancing Queen! You know, the song? Dancing Queeeen, young and sweeet, only seventeeen-”
Of course they were in public when they said that, so Marina was horribly embarrassed by her father’s terrible singing voice. For someone with a public reputation, he sure didn’t mind ruining it!
But in the end, it was sweet. Her father loved ABBA and Elton John, and Marina imagined that the two of them would dance to Dancing Queen or Tiny Dancer at her wedding.
Marina loved her dad and mom, and that was the reason why she finally dragged herself down from the bunkbed. From their room on the second level, she could see the dock inching closer and closer. With a yawn, Marina turned and walked into the bathroom, where she finally was able to look upon her tired face in the mirror. Her short, black hair was frizzled, but a few brush strokes later reverted it to its usual sleek form. Marina stretched her arms above her head, wincing a little as she heard her shoulders pop. Jeez, good thing I don’t have a swim meet today, my joints are all out of whack. Her blue-grey eyes, still bloodshot from a fitful sleep, harbored a major case of the dark circles. Nothing a little makeup couldn't fix.
A few minutes later, Marina was finally dressed in some high waisted jeans and a non-descript tank top. She had her trusty mirrored sunglasses on, yet the sunlight from the window was enough to make her eyes water. Leaving her room, she walked down the hallway, strutting with her hands deep in her pockets, her fingers running over the ID card given to her upon embarkation. Marina Porosus.
"Finally, there you are," her father greeted when she made it down to the gangway. "Ready to see Egypt?"
Her father was a tall man, with jet black hair like Marina's. While her mother's eyes were a warm brown, his were blue. He looked like your stereotypical senator, even if he didn’t act like it.”
"Do they even have any pyramids in this town?" Marina asked, a bit apathetically.
Her mother shook her head. "No pyramids, but there used to be a library here, the library of Alexandria!"
Marina raised an eyebrow. "Used to be? Well, what's here now?"
Her parents were at a loss for words. "Well, why don't we go see!" her father exclaimed optimistically, throwing his arms around his daughter and wife.
For the first time that morning, Marina smiled. Even if it was just her parents and her, the three of them would have a good time.
Alexandria was lively place, full of noise and life. Most of it was centered around the port, where the single cruise ship was docked. It was like any other port Marina had visited, except the air was much more dry than the Caribbean. Even Italy was more humid. Marina walked behind her parents as they made their way farther inland. “There’s some ancient ruins I want to check out,” her father said excitedly. “And are you still curious about the Library of Alexandria, Marina?”
Marina shrugged. “Was I curious to begin with?”
“Yes!” her father asserted. “Anyway, there’s a museum all about it farther inland. The walk is a little long, but it’ll be fun!”
Marina sighed, shaking her head a little. She knew her father had enough money to rent a cab, but he was stubborn and insisted that walking “built character.”
“Tarot card readings! Have your fortune told by the Tarot!”
For some reason, Marina’s feet stalled. Slowly, she stopped, then turned her head towards the source of the voice.
No... it wasn’t the voice that drew her there.
It was... something else.
Like magnetism. Gravity. Marina’s gaze fell upon a short, clocked figure, sitting at the mouth of an alley. The voice was feminine, wracked with age, but Marina couldn’t be sure. For a moment, she almost kept walking, but a moment of hesitation was all it took.
“Dad! Can I get my fortune told?”
Her parents stopped and looked back at her. Her father eyed the fortune teller suspiciously. “Ah, Marina, you don’t believe that stuff, do you?”
“So? It’ll still be fun.” Marina looked back over at the fortune teller. She still had that weird feeling, like that person was someone she knew. “Anyway, Tarot Card readings originated in ancient Egypt, so isn’t this a good experience to have while here?”
Well, her father couldn’t deny that. “Here-” He handed the cloaked figure a twenty dollar bill. “Will this suffice?”
“Certainly.” A deck of cards appeared from under the sleeve of their cloak, and instantly shuffled itself. They spread out across the makeshift table. A wrinkled hand gestured at the line. “Go ahead... pick three, my dear.”
Slowly, Marina reached down. With one finger, she slid one card forward, then another, and then a third. The fortune teller swept them up immediately and placed them face up. Marina’s eyes narrowed as she saw the pictures on the cards, but couldn’t read the writing on them. “So? What does it mean?”
With a soft chuckle, a withered finger pointed at the first. “This card represents your past... This is the Six of Wands card! Confidence, recognition, and success... you’ve known all three throughout your life.”
Marina gulped, shrugging a little. Maybe... but everyone’s had some sort of success in their life! That seems a little too broad.
“And this is the present-” They gestured at the middle card. “This is the Tower Card... it represents catastrophic change, and... awakening.”
Awakening? That’s interesting... I don’t know what that could be.
“Tell me...” Marina looked up to see an eye peering out from behind the hood. It narrowed curiously. “This card is one of the Major Arcana... it represents a milestone in your life. You must have noticed, then... even if you don’t know quite yet...”
Marina wasn’t sure she liked the way the fortune teller was spinning this. I haven’t noticed anything like that! “Okay... and the last card is the future?”
“Yes, yes...”
The fortune teller’s finger fell upon the face of the last card. Unlike the first two, it was reversed, facing away from Marina. “This card, when reversed, represents dissatisfaction, delays, and... an endless, fruitless search for closure.”
Marina felt a chill go down her neck.
“The World.”
The family left the fortune teller behind after that. Even as they searched farther inland, visiting temples and museums, Marina could not shake the slowly growing pit of dread in her stomach.
A few hours later, it was almost time to get back on the ship. The problem was that the small family had made their way a little too far inland and were now in real danger of being left behind.
"This is all your fault, dad!" Marina scolded as she jogged behind her parents. There was a taxi station nearby where they could get transport to the port. "You always geek out over this historical stuff and make us late to things!"
"Well, your mother wanted to get that hat from that store back there, too, so I'm not the only one to blame," he yelled back. "In any case, we can just hop on a taxi and-" His face fell, and the family skidded to a halt. The entire plaza was slammed, bumper to bumper traffic as far as they could see. "Mitchell, we're definitely going to miss the boat," her mom said quietly. Of course, Senator Porosus stayed enthusiastic, shaking his head. "No, we'll make it if we run."
Marina groaned as her father and mother started to run again. "Seriously?" It wasn't that Marina couldn't keep up; she had been swimming her entire life and had great stamina. It was just so damn hot out.
"If you hurry, we'll make it back in time for dinner," her mother encouraged, spurring Marina on into a true run.
With her dad leading the way, the trio raced down the street towards where they thought the port was. There were a lot of people walking on the sidewalks, but it wasn't hard to weave between them without disturbance. Marina craned her neck and, with a ton of relief, spied the top of their ship up ahead. "I can see it, Dad!" she exclaimed, already thinking about what she was going to eat for dinner tonight. "We're going to make it!"
"Here, let's cut through this road." He pointed at an alley that seemingly cut over to where the embarkation area was. "We can beat some of the line as well."
"Perfect!" Marina changed course and ran ahead of her parents and into the alleyway.
For a moment, the sounds of the busy streets died away, leaving only three pairs of footsteps slapping their way down the stone path. The buildings on either side were tall enough to block out the afternoon sun, leaving them in a comfortable chill.
Up ahead was a corner. Marina quickened her pace and turned into...
A dead end.
"Shit," her dad exclaimed, earning him a sharp kick in the shin from his wife. "Ah, excuse my french. Back luck, huh." He shrugged, ever optimistic. "Well, I guess we can double back and keep running."
"Yeah," Marina’s mom agreed.
Marina sighed. What a let down! Well, it wouldn't take too long to get back, at least, at this rate we’ll make in in time-
Marina turned around to see that five men, all armed with guns, had cornered them in the dead end.
"Look at this, just the man we were looking for!” one of them pointed at Marina’s dad. “This is the senator we were told to capture? He doesn’t look like much.”
“Don’t worry, this is him... Senator Porosus, a friend of yours sends this message:” one of the men grinned. “You’ve been in my way for too long, Mitch. It’s time for me to put the fear of God in you. Enjoy your extended stay in Egypt!”
“What? Who hired you?” Mitchell gulped and pulled his wife and daughter behind him. Marina felt her mom's cold hand clutch her arm. This time, she didn't try to shrug it off. “I’ve done nothing but get along with everyone. They all want to see me reach the top! I’m gonna be President one day-”
“We’ll see about that.” The man in charge raised his gun. “For now, come to our truck. We’ll make you and your family comfortable until someone generous pays your ransom.”
Oh no, they had a truck somewhere.
"Look... I don’t care what you do to me.” Senator Porosus said, his voice shaking a little. For someone in so much danger, he was staying pretty composed. “But leave my family out of it!”
“Mitchell-” Marina’s mother whispered, her grip on Marina loosening slightly. “Just do what they say, and-” She was cut off with a scream as one of the men yanked her away from her family.
Marina's eyes widened. Shit! This is actually happening- It was like a scene from a movie, some horrible, scary movie, and panic spiked through Marina’s veins. "MOM! DAD!" Someone grabbed Senator Porous as well, and now two more were advancing towards Marina.
"Don’t even try, you’re just going to get hurt!” one of the guys said with a twisted grin. Marina screamed and struggled anyway as her arms were twisted behind her body.
No... NO!
This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. This was supposed to be their last stop before flying home, where Marina would finish up the year and enjoy the summer with her friends. But now-
Catastrophic change... and-
With one last burst of strength, Marina wrenched her arm away, freeing herself for a moment. She turned around, her eyes wide and crazed with adrenaline.
Awakening.
The gun leveled at her head was suddenly crunched into a flat piece of scrap metal. The man holding it didn’t have a moment to realize what had happened, because numerous spots of his arm suddenly burst with blood.
He opened his mouth to scream, stumbling back, but it was as if something was clamped down on his arm, hard. Bones crunched as he was suddenly wrenched to the side, and the movement sent him flying into the nearby brick wall.
Marina froze.
What- what on earth-
But then something hit her in the back of the head, hard, and she fell back down to the bottom of the river.
The crocodile continued to circle high above.
And that’s chapter one!!!! I hope you guys are intrigued 0.0 Please comment/inbox/etc if you have any theories or thoughts, I always appreciate them! I’ll probably post the next chapter on Friday. I changed a couple things to make the story flow better than it did when I first released it. Anyway, see you next time!
Also, did anyone catch the meaning of Marina’s last name? hehe...

What are some of your favorite video recordings of Phantom? (Sorry if it's been asked a million times, I'm just too lazy to look it up lol)
I’ve made a list of recommendations, which I thought about linking, but those were more about exposing fans to different versions and was also based on what had already been gifted. But my actual favorite videos are ones that I’ve thought about, opened up time and again just for my enjoyment, or otherwise made an impression on my opinions about the show.
1988, Tokyo, Ichimura/Nomura/Yamaguchi - The most old-school of the productions, retaining many of the quirks that were removed or changed in just about all the other productions (e.g. Christine’s dancing, the last verse in ‘Wishing’), proshot... and also features Ichimura, who is basically a Japanese clone of Michael Crawford (and voice of Mewtwo!), plus a sweet Christine and Raoul in Ryoko Nomura and Yuichiro Yamaguchi.
1995, London, Freeman/Washington/Bowman - Ethan Freeman provides the least campy, most realistic, and most Leroux-accurate interpretation I’ve seen yet. Every time I want to remind myself as to just how creepy the Phantom can get, I open up this video.
2000, Mexico City, Vasconcelos/Terrazas/Joel - Oh gosh, Saulo Vasconcelos’s hands! If I want to see just what happens if you give a talented performer huge creative freedom in the role, I watch this. Also, just a super fun production overall that seems to have really let their performers experiment.
April 25, 2000, Hamburg, Bourg/Kelly/Gonyea - The video with Olivia Safe is more common, but my favorite of the Christines who have performed opposite Ian Jon Bourg, another favorite Phantom who is just so consistently good, is Alison Kelly, who plays her Christine quite intelligent and rational.
November 19, 2003, US Tour, Little/Vroman/Gleason - When I want to remember how freaky Brad Little can get (”you try my patience”) but also how much chemistry he can have with a Christine, I watch this video.
March 2, 2005, Broadway, Panaro/Hanson/Cudia - Just quoting myself from another post: “This is a video to watch if you want to see a great trio of actors whose interpretations fit together almost perfectly - Panaro providing the slightly nutty Phantom, Hanson a traumatized, child-like Christine, and Cudia her protective guardian.” One of the first videos I really watched and reviewed, and still one I have very fond memories of.
January 2006, London, Carpenter/Barrell/Shannon - Every time I want to cry about the Phantom, or about Earl Carpenter’s Phantom in particular, I watch this video. I almost always find some new detail I missed on a previous viewing.
April 6, 2006, US Tour, Mauer/Southard/Weitzer - As mentioned here, this was one of the first videos I ever watched, and the cast solidified a lot of opinions I still have now regarding the Phantom, Christine, and Raoul. But also it’s such a well-captured video, catching so many details the cast threw in.
July 1, 2006, US Tour, Cudia/Wills/Monley - A video I watch for the astounding pairing of John Cudia and Jennifer Hope Wills, who I think had only worked together a few weeks when this was filmed? It sure doesn’t show, because their interpretations mesh so well. Another video that really made me appreciate the characters, especially Christine, because of all the work the actors put into their roles.
August 18, 2010, London, Shannon/Beck/Bailey - Beautiful video, beautiful production, and features one of my favorite Christines. Like the Carpenter video, I regularly open this up just to bask in Gina Beck’s acting.
March 9, 2013, Broadway, Stolle/Hill/Mills - Completely changed my opinion on Jeremy Stolle’s Phantom, and showed me how an actor can use restraint and subtle changes in his voice to do wonders with a character, and made me love Samantha Hill’s Christine and Greg Mills’s Raoul. But also, very fond memories of watching this video being streamed for the first time and observing the absolute thirst in the viewership.
April 11, 2014, Hamburg, Arnsperger/Brons/Wuchinger - A funky cast and one I kept thinking about long after the video was over, particularly Lauri Brons’s quirky, crazy-eyed, willful Christine. But also a very well-filmed video that really showed off the consistently good Hamburg revival production.
March 7, 2015, Moscow, Ermak/Kotova/Zaycev - To quote myself again (because I’m getting a little tired): “This video is not just one of the best of the production itself, it’s probably one of the best Phantom bootlegs period - great filming with tons of closeups, almost no obstruction, basically the full show, and a terrific cast. It used to be really rare but it’s getting pretty common now.” Also, featuring Tamara Kotova, a stunningly perfect Christine.
March 2019, London, Thaxton/Mathieson/Taylor - And another quote: “Probably the best video to come out of London in almost a decade, so it gives a great look at the London production as it is now. It also has a fantastic cast: David Thaxton is a very solid Phantom while Kelly Mathieson’s Christine is an absolute standout.” Beautiful details all around in this video.
March 2019, Copenhagen, Kofod/Glosted/Lund - Pretty much the perfect bootleg, the perfect production, and the perfect cast. Everyone was pouring their all into their roles, the energy is intense, the performances are fantastic. Watching this may have singlehandedly ruined my first live viewing of the show, because I kept comparing it back to this video. (But whatever, it was the restaged tour.) One of the few, or only, videos on this list that I don’t watch too often, just to preserve the magic.

current residence: Cedar Creek
financial status: Middle Class

→ relationships
father: Yoojin Lee (distant)
mother: Jisoo Lee (strained, they’re either arguing or not talking)
siblings: Allie Lee (distant, older sister), Eugene Lee (close, little brother)
relationship status: Single
when/who was your first kiss: Her first kiss was at the age of 14 with the younger brother of one of Allie’s boyfriends. Complicated description, but basically, she was told by Allie to not do anything when they were visiting Allie’s boyfriend. Liv, pulled a younger sibling shit-head behavior, and made out with his brother in the basement. No regrets, though.
are you a virgin: Nope
have you ever had a same sex experience: Yes
do you ever want to get married/have children: Yes, she wants to get married and have children. She, ideally, wants to make a home for herself that she didn’t have as a kid.
what do you look for in a potential significant other: She looks for loyalty and honesty. She also looks for someone that has an understanding that she needs space at times. Olivia dislikes intense blowout arguments, and will walk away in the middle of one to cool down. Liv also looks for a partner that will pull their weight in terms of housework and finances. She prefers someone who balances out her creativity with intellect. It’s not to say that Liv’s stupid, she just needs someone who is a little more serious at times, and has some sort of skills or hobbies to add to her own.
→ personality
positive traits: Loyal, laidback, calculating, creative
negative traits: Stubborn, distant, self-sacrificing, insecure
biggest fear: Her biggest fear is becoming her mother. She dislikes blowout arguments and will try to get away if things start getting too loud out of fear that she’ll say something she doesn’t mean, and/or act callous like her mother.
what’s more important- sex or intimacy: Intimacy, and intimate sex.
do you believe in true love: Yes, she does
have you ever been in love: Yes, but it hasn’t always been positive
are you a leader or follower: Both. She can take the lead when necessary, but Liv is also okay with falling back at times.
do you care what others think of you: Yes and no. She wants to be a better person than what she grew up with, but at the same time, she’s come to realize that for some people it doesn’t matter what you do if they’ve already made up their minds about you.
how do you deal with stress: Liv deals with stress by burying herself in work and projects -- it gives her distance via distraction. She also tends to restrict her food during periods of high stress. This is a negative reaction that stems from Liv feeling like when things are out of control that it is somehow her fault and that she can do something “right” by being extra cautious with food.
are you spontaneous or do you always need a plan: She’s spontaneous with things like travel and what she does in her spare time
→ misc
If your character could change one physical detail about herself, what would it be? She would like to be just a smidge shorter.
What is your character’s favorite physical activity? Swimming, with yoga and pilates being close behind.
What is your character’s least favorite physical activity? Running
Your character comes face-to-face with her worst enemy. What is her first reaction? Her first reaction is to walk the other way. She’s not going to start something unless she’s forced to.
What is your character’s favorite weather? Liv likes chilly weather. She enjoys spending time on her balcony, but isn’t going to do that in the dead of summer or in the thick of winter.
What is your character’s favorite season? Fall, see above.
What is your character’s least favorite season? Winter. She dislikes waking up and having to go outside to defrost her windshield and car locks. Waking up is already awful, combined with really cold weather when your warm house is right there, it’s a no for her.
Your character keeps a photo album of memories from her lifetime. If she could only keep one photo, what would it depict? It would be a picture of her and Allie with Eugene. Eugene is about 8 months old, and his sisters are on either side of them. They’re all drenched in water from running through the sprinkler and cheesing.
Does your character keep any pets? She has a tabby cat that her brother kind of dumped on her. He was told he couldn’t have a pet in her old apartment, so he left the cat with her.
What is your character’s fondest childhood memory? They had a tire swing out in the backyard. She would wake up early some mornings and just lean back and let her arms and legs dangle while the wind lightly twirled her around.
Someone asks your character to describe her family. How do they answer? Complicated and strained.
Is your character a morning person, a night owl, or something else entirely? She’s actually been diagnosed with insomnia. She struggles with falling asleep, and rarely can fall asleep early. Olivia will also wake up every couple of hours. On the weekends, she usually sleeps in late to make up for the gaps.
What is your character’s least favorite color? Yellow. It makes her think of pus.
A stranger makes a crude comment to your character. How do they react? Usually, she’ll ignore it, but Liv is not above tossing her drink or cracking a bottle over someone’s head. Every now and again, she gets a hair up her ass and will say something witty.
What mythological figure best personifies your character? Siren. She really likes swimming lol.

@thegrandwilde, I got inspired from our earlier conversation and you did say you like getting introduced to new music so… (Though actually, feel free to ignore this post entirely, I just like info-dumping about They Might Be Giants and this is a convenient excuse to do so lol)
Apparently it was three asks, maybe there were more I didn’t see, but these are the songs I’ve seen referenced in those weird ass tmbg asks (Spotify links):
The Mesopotamians
Birdhouse in Your Soul
Don’t Let’s Start
And really, those are great songs, but speaking as someone who has obsessively listened to this band for 32 (of 36) years, these are some equivalent or better ones under the cut. One from almost every album, actually.
(*Favorite albums)
Put Your Hand Inside the Puppet Head (They Might Be Giants, 1986)
Their least-refined album, being their first, but full of a lot of gems, actually.
Ana Ng (Lincoln, 1988)*
Much more polished than the first. This one’s hard to choose one song from, nearly every one is gold.
Your Racist Friend (Flood, 1990)
Probably their most popular album, at least from my era? Extremely popular among Mormons for reasons I’ve never really understood.
I, Palindrome, I (Apollo 18, 1992)*
Arguably my favorite album to this day, not just from TMBG, but generally. It’s actual perfection, is all. Next to impossible to choose a single song to feature.
No One Knows My Plan (John Henry, 1994)*
Their first album after adding more members/instruments, including some horns, which they would keep from this point forward. (Now they’re two Johns, two Dans, and a Marty). Arguably their first commercially viable album, and likely the thing that got them noticed by TV producers. (Soon after this, they wrote The Daily Show theme and have been more or less industry staples ever since. They wrote the Malcolm in the Middle theme song, as well.)
Pet Name (Factory Showroom, 1996)*
Another basically perfect album, next to impossible to choose a single song from. I only chose this one because it’s awesome and a bit more chill than a lot of their stuff.
Doctor Worm (Severe Tire Damage, 1998)
One of their better-known songs, from an almost entirely live album, but not a live song. I see people quoting this one semi-often and wonder where they heard it.
Reprehensible (Long-Tall Weekend, 1999)
The first full-length online-only album ever released by a major artist. Which is amazing. (They were also one of the first major artists, if not the first, to have an official online radio station, in 1999. Which is insane.)
This song is a good representation of a mainstay of TMBG: pairing perky pop melody with vaguely (or sometimes blatantly) sinister lyrics or subject matter. One of my most favorite musical tropes (gee, I wonder why? Lol)
My Man (Mink Car, 2001)*
Released around the time John Flansburgh started his electronica/hip-hop fusion side project, Mono Puff. I’m not wild about the project, but being in that headspace did wonderful things for this album.
This song is featured to demonstrate their extreme, general nerdiness (especially John Linnell’s, who is my preferred John). Insofar as they have managed to turn the 3 word phrase, “I am paralyzed” into a 3 minute song, without once using the actual phrase.
Experimental Film (The Spine, 2004)
A good, solid album, another one it’s hard to choose one song from. The video for this song was done by the Brothers Champs, creators of Homestar Runner. The story goes that they each found out the other were huge fans of theirs, collectively did whatever the middle-aged man equivalent of a fangirl-squeal is, and began collaborating immediately. They still do, occasionally.
The Cap’m (The Else, 2007)*
It took me a while to warm up to this album, but now I absolutely love it. While looking for a song to post, I realized one of the anon asks quoted this song.
The Lady and the Tiger (Join Us, 2011)*
A nearly perfect album marred by a couple of songs that I legitimately dislike. That is…not a thing I say about TMBG often. *shrug* They can’t all be Apollo 18.
This song baaaarely squeaked by ahead of You Probably Get That A Lot, When Will You Die?, and Cloissinné because the Bassline. Fucking. Slaps.
Money for Dope (Album Raises New and Troubling Questions, 2011)
Released as a companion to Join Us, including some songs cut from the album along with some b-sides, live tracks, & remixes. It’s got some good shit on it, including Marty Beller Mask, easily one of the most surreal songs they’ve ever written.
But I featured this song because it was the inspiration for my The Young Ones: Love & Mobsters fic: Dope, and because it’s one of their many songs that is literally just a list of things, which is very them.
Call You Mom (Nanobots, 2013)
Another solid album, but not one of my favorites. It might just be too new for me (she said of the 6 year old album), but it might just not be one of their best albums. *shrug*
They Might Be Giants has a very distinct sense of humor. This song is just about the perfect example of that.
Erase (Glean, 2015)
The first album released after they started their new Dial-A-Song project, which they turned into a song-a-week challenge. As a result, the album isn’t like, exceptional, but there are a lot of gems, actually.
This is my favorite song on the album because it’s about the creative editing process (yes, a rare TMBG song that is definitively about something) and I feel it on a spiritual level.
Bills, Bills, Bills (Phone Power, 2016)
I’m not familiar enough with this album to have much of an opinion on it, I don’t listen to it much. But I had to include this song because I legitimately fucking love TMBG covers, and this one was…unexpected, lmao.
Mrs. Bluebeard (I Like Fun, 2018)*
The first album released after the 2016 election, and it shows, with a strong thread of fears about aging, loss, vague despair/disappointment, and political anger (An Insult to the Fact Checkers is a blatantly anti-Trump song). I fucking love it.
This song is just really well composed, and also demonstrates a strong feminist sensibility, rarely seen in ostensibly cishet(?), white, male baby-boomers (young ones, but still).
(Yes cis, dunno if het? Neither are particularly effusive about their personal lives. They’re both married which, of course, means literally nothing.)
I mean, they’ve clearly always been liberal commie bastards (see Your Racist Friend above), but they’ve become more vocally so over the past few years.

Tagging Game
I was tagged by @sanhatipal , thanks for the tag! ^_^
Answers under the cut, since it ended up a bit long.
How tall are you? ♠ 157 cm! So, 5'2 inches. There was a time when I thought I'd grow more, but meh, at this point I'm pretty fond of my height (I can fit in pretty much every bath tub in existence like how cool is that).
What colour and style is your hair? ♠ I'm a brunette (shade-wise, "brown chocolate" looks the closest). Since my hair is naturally wavy (lol, apparently a "waviness" level exists; looks like mine is "Wavy 2A", aka the softest one), I pretty much only get it layered and leave it like that. As for length - right now it reaches my upper waist. During the summer, I wear it in a low ponytail. Oh, and I have side-swept bangs. Overall - very low maintenance, lol.
What color are your eyes? ♠ Light green, with a bit of yellow-ish brown around the iris. That said, as most light eyes, they can look a bit blue-ish or grey-ish at times, depending on the light.
Do you wear glasses? ♠ No, though my eyes aren't in a perfect condition (I'm slightly near-sighted + I really tire my eyes these days... years... xD).
Do you wear braces? ♠ No.
What’s your fashion sense? ♠ Erm, a simple one? Primarily skinny jeans + blouses/shirts. Main colours: black, red and white.
Full name? ♠ (H) Elena (of Troy).
When were you born? ♠ June 23rd, 1996 (technically, on the 3rd astronomical summer day here).
Where are you from and where do you live now? ♠ Bulgaria and I still live there.
What school do you go to? ♠ I barely remember anything before "high" school, so I'll talk mainly about that + university.
I went to a "Professional technical school"... Erm, kinda hard to explain to non-eastern european people, but basically a school that both teaches the normal subjects regular (high) schools have + special subjects, connected to a specific course (computer technology, optics, etc.). My course was called (lit. translation) "Cinematography, audio and video systems" and it contained pretty much everything from handling old-school movie projectors, to handling movie cameras, video editing, as well as some basics on sound capturing / editing, etc., etc. When you graduate you get 2 different diplomas and I guess you can skip on going to university, but I actually use what I learned there to earn money and pay my university fees xD
As for university - I study law, which many people here consider to be a “useless” degree, as unless you have solid connections (and relatives that work as lawyers, etc.), getting a job can be rather difficult... Still, I'm going to give it a try the "normal" way (aka via legit interviews, etc.) and we'll see how things will work out.
What kind of student are you? ♠ I was actually the student with the 2nd highest grade in my class, but I wouldn't say I had an interest in high grades in general. I was just scared of failing my teachers' expectations, so I tried my best.
As for university - it really depends on the subject, 'cause civil law is not something I'm too interested in and, naturally, my grades aren't too high xDD I try to prioritize the subjects I like / will need in the future and learn just enough to pass for everything else.
Do you like school? ♠ Yup, overall. My class was kinda split into groups, so there were conflicts, but there were a lot of fun moments too.
Favorite subject? ♠ I'd say Biology and later on - Literature. As for university - Criminal Law and Criminology.
Favorite tv shows? ♠ In no specific order - Victor Ros (Murder Mystery/Thriller), Victoria (Drama/History) and Anne with an E (Drama/Based on a book). As for anime - Psych-Pass, Durarara!! and Pandora Hearts (maybe it's the nostalgia, but I still love it, regardless of it's flaws).
Favorite movie(s)? ♠ At the top of my head - The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Red Dragon (2002), Phenomena (1985), Van Helsing (2004), Dog Soldiers (2002), Labyrinth (1986), Pan's Labyrinth (2006), The Hound of the Baskervilles (2000), The Never Ending Story (1984), When Marnie Was There (2014; though a lot of Ghibli movies come to mind), The Lion King (1994; + many other Disney movies), The Stoning of Soraya M. (2008);
Favorite book(s)? ♠ Oh, boy... Crime and Punishment (1866), all of the novels about Sherlock Holmes (The Hound of the Baskervilles being my favorite), Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), The Chrysalids (1955), The Secret Garden (1911), The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890), The Silence of the Lambs (1988), Red Dragon (1981), Psycho (1959), Bring Me the Head of Prince Charming (1991), Dracula (1897), The Phantom of the Opera (1909), Memoirs of a Geisha (1997), the Grimm brothers' fairy tales aaaand more.
Do you have regrets? ♠ I don't really think so. Or should I say, I do, but they don't stay for long. I mean, just because I failed today doesn't mean I'll fail tomorrow as well, you know?
Dream job? ♠ As a kid I wanted to become a vet. Right now, I'm aiming for the position of a police investigator, though working as a prosecutor or private detective (at some point later on) is still a good option in my book.
Do you like shopping? ♠ Only online one, lol. I find (clothes) shopping to be slow and tedious for most of the time.
What countries have you visited? ♠ I've been to Germany for 4 days, during a music festival. At the time I was only 13, so I barely remember anything, aside that it was very cold, the natives seemed nice and I really liked the architecture of the houses + how quiet the small town was.
Scariest nightmare you have ever had? ♠ Once I dreamed my home city was hit by nuclear bomb (I literally saw the explosion out of my window), so I guess that. It's kinda funny how stressed one is after such a dream, before they realize (well, more like their brain realizes) that it was a dream and not reality.
Any enemies? ♠ I don't think so? Though I presume a handful of people online dislike me, but that is to be expected.
Do you believe in miracles? ♠ Not really, not in the classical sense. I think some things, good or bad, happen "at the roll of a dice". Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win. No more, no less.
How are you? ♠ In a good mood, probably since I'll be visiting the seaside soon ~

Mikayla Jay's World...
Welcome one and all.
Hey friends....I thought it's about time for me to really introduce myself to all of you. I started this little blog about 6 weeks ago, and the first thing I should say is that I'm...well...*ahem... getting older. (I'm 45). As such, I'm a bit of a late-comer to social media. If truth be told, this is my first and only blog and platform that I have ever used. Ever. I don't use Facebook, I'm not a YouTuber or on Twitter or Twatter or Chatsnap or whatever else is typically used by y'all. This isn't about monetization for me. I needed a place to be creative, to vent, to learn, to grow...and most importantly...I wanted to find others in hopes of developing some sort of support network for myself. You see, in addition to being old (er), I'm also a proud MTF Transgender WOMAN. I am also bi-sexual, with a ravenous sexual appetite for both men and women - and each for their own unique reasons and dynamics. I have been an artist for mist if my life and career, having spent over 15 years professionally as a tattoo artist (I was attracted to Tumbler initially because of the graphic friendly, pro-art/artist philosophy...and the porn lol- at least until they took that away 🙄). I got burned out professionally about 18 months ago, and really wanted to follow a dream that has been sitting in the back of my head for years and years... I wanted to pursue writing. I've always believed that you do what you love, AND THEN you find a way to get paid doing it. But really, it's not about making money for me. It's about living my life on my terms, loving the person I continue evolving into, standing in my own truths, living authentically and being happy....truly happy with the life I want to live. And while I'm on the topic, I wasn't always interested in that. Living, I mean. The Cole's Notes version of my past is certainly colorful, but also full of pain and some tragedy- like many of us.
I grew up in a chaotic household, with parents that fought constantly and ultimately divorced. That was tough on me because I was close to my mom, and not so much to my father. Mom was a Nurse, Dad a University Professor. You see, I knew I was different from an early age. Thing is, my Mom knew too. She caught me wearing her makeup (because I would smush her lipsticks not understanding proper application techniques, and she got tired of me destroying them on her lol). So my Mom decided to show me how to apply makeup properly. She knew I liked lingerie, dresses, heels etc. I believe she also knew that I was not straight at the very least- certainly as I entered my teens and became a horny kid, it became obvious- to her. My father had his face in a textbook my entire childhood, and so was oblivious to his oldest son's (me) true personality. As such, I became very close to Mom. She was my best friend.
When I was 13, my parents divorced. My Mom needed a fresh start and my father made way more money, so we (me and younger brother) were forced to live with him. We moved to Maritime Canada- Prince Edward Island to be specific, as my father accepted a job in Charlottetown. My Mom moved to the North West Territories, and took a job as an Emergency Medical Flight Nurse working thru a small Native reserve hospital in Fort Simpson NWT. I was heart broken at being away from her suddenly, and bitter at the whole situation. Then my life really turned upside down.
My Mom, the best friend I ever had, loved her new life. She was finally really happy, and at peace with herself. She spent a very. fullfilling year up North. Then, just before X-Mas 1988, my world fell apart. My mom was on an emergency medical flight, and without me reliving painfull details, the plane she was flying in- 3 miles from the airport on the return leg, flew into a mountain. The plane exploded on impact, and my Mom was killed. That day, a big piece of my heart died.
I'm 14 yrs old. My mom, my best friend, my confidant and only person I trusted and supported who I was, was taken from me. The impact it had on me was simple. I was broken inside. I was in a new city and province, had no friends, was confused, alone....and broken.
The way I dealt with the pain and grief was to bury it by inside me. I became introverted, isolated, depressed, and scared. I was also trying to fit in where I didn't belong. Those of you that have never experienced small town maritime Canada, it's like Deliverence. Only worse. I had to adapt to my surroundings. The local customs and beliefs were not open, accepting or pro LGBTQ. The one thing I had going for me (at least then) was that I was coordinated and active. I could play sports. And I was a big kid. I believed my only option to fit in was to pretend I was like "everyone else". I learned to bury not just my pain, but everything that made me who I was. My sexuality. My needs and longings to feel feminine. To dress up and wear makeup. The happiest side of my personality was intimately linked to my feeling that I was born in the wrong body. I became sport-o. A jock. I blocked out and buried that part of me. And began living a life of lies. I became a "mans man".
Fast forward. I got big. I got angry. I hated myself and the world. I got involved in football and rugby and started amateur boxing. I became more confused as time went on. And more angry. Eventually after University, I moved out West. To British Columbia. Vancouver. Part of me wanted to get as far away from my father, Atlantic Canada, and my past. Part of me was aware of the progressive open gay community out there.
I ended up taking a job as a bouncer in a fairly violent biker bar. I immersed myself in that world, all the while walking a razors edge where I was "Iron Mike" on the outside, a tough SOB and all around bastard of a person. My confusion and anger over time grew into overwhelming dysphoria. I hated my body. I hated the way I looked. I battled those feeling by way overcompensating and going to the extreme other end of the gender scale. I became hyper masculine outwardly, and satisfied my inner desires on the sly, behind everyone's back. I engaged in many dangerous and stupid behaviors. I became a drug addict. And that culminated in 3 suicide attempts. I wanted to die.
That part of my life is a story for another time. But I will fast forward, for the sake of my sanity and yours. I was lucky enough to find an addictions doctor and a mental health councillor who helped me turn my life around. I began with grief Councilling for dealing with my mother's death. As I learned to trust the two women at that clinic, I came clean. With everything. My sexuality. My gender identity. I opened up about my risky sexual behavior (days and weeks suppressing and burying who I was inevitably would boil over and I would "blow off steam in the extreme let's just say.) Cyclical, drug fuelled gay sex parties were like a medicinal, almost spiritual healing event, just in a backwards twisted sort of way. My depression, dysphoria and anxiety would go up and down with my moods. I needed to change. And the more I worked on accepting myself, and battling the debilitating shame of feeling like a closet freak, the more I realized how wrong I had always been. How confused, disillusioned and unhappy I always was. I learned, slowly and not without setbacks, that I was not the pariah I feared I would become. I wasn't a freak. And I didn't have to continue to be......broken.
Over the past 10 years, I have grown and evolved. I began by accepting that I was gender fluid, and embracing it. My lifelong habit of crossdressing became something I refused to bury, and I stopped being ashamed of it. I consider myself mostly bisexual....with a definitive preferrence towards gay men and gay sex. I enjoy sleeping with women as well, but I really find it is a different type of sex, and my attraction to women is more about the intimacy. I emotionally 'make love' to women, whereas I like a good n' nasty fuck with a man...call me old-fashioned LMAO.
I also evolved in my gender identity, my knowledge and experience growing alongside my courage, and the belief in who I really am. I have grown to embrace the woman I've been evolving into. The amount of time I spent dressed up and living as a female grew more and more. I learned to truly accept myself, and the word Transgender. The philosophy, lifestyle, choices, mental impact and ultimately the strength and happiness that I've found by embracing that I AM A PROUD AND HAPPY MTF TRANSGENDER WOMAN has absolutely changed and saved my life. As such, I went through Gender Councilling, and went through the long and arduous waiting list/period to see a gender specialist doctor. I am so excited to say that I finally began by hormone therapy treatment about 6 weeks ago.
Which brings me to where we are now. I have just begun the next phase of my life. I am so happy and thankful to have survived and come through on the other side. Part of that journey has been learning to love myself. Respect myself. Believe in myself. I am so grateful to the small support group of doctor's and mental health workers who helped me learn to live my life as it was always meant to have been lived. And the other part is making sure that I can pay that gratitude forward, by helping other Transgender people live their authentic wonderful lives. That's a big reason why I started my blog. Mikayla Jay's World is a reflection of who I am. It is a place where I can thrive, meet others like myself, actually BE myself, and continue to grow....creatively, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. It is a world where you won't be judged, and you will always find a supportive girl to lean on and become friends with. We are on the cusp of great societal changes. We have the ability to help each other through the difficulties still to come, and all be stronger, better people for it. Welcome to the world I live in. Welcome to a place I love. A safe place to be who you are...inside and out....and a place where we can all laugh, cry, be shocked, be turned on, be motivated, be creative, be unique, and be loved. Your always welcome in Mikayla Jay's World. Thanks y'all.

What did you do last night? I had dogs, cats and a guinea pig to feed, and after that I just chilled at home, watched TV and had fish-finger sandwiches for dinner, lol.
What was the first thing you thought about in the morning?  Why was the dog waking me up at bloody half five, lol.
What are you wearing right now? Black leggings and a black and white floral tunic top.

What pisses you off the most? Tailgaters and drivers that don’t indicate.
Last thing you questioned yourself on? Whether I’d turned the tap off at a clients’ house yesterday. I went back to check and of course I had turned it off, but I reaaally confused the dog lol.

Where do you want to be at a year from now? I really never plan my life that far in advance.
What is your favorite trait about yourself? I’m good with animals.
Anything bothering you right now? I’m just tired from being woken up at stupid o’clock this morning, but otherwise I’m feeling pretty good, to be honest.
Do you like pickles? No, I can’t stand them. Luckily Mike loves them and so does my mum, so there’s always someone to take them off my hands, lol.
When was the last time you got a phone call? Uhh, I don’t remember - I don’t really talk on the phone much, lol. I did FaceTime my mum on Friday night, though.
Who is your favorite football team?  I don’t follow football.
Have you ever bobbed for apples? Maybe as a little kid, yeah.
Have you ever thought you could do a better job at being president? Nope lol. I can’t imagine how horrendously stressful that job is - the whole world is watching you and no matter what you do, you’re going to piss off and upset someone.
If you could only drink one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? Coffee.
What’s one food you could eat everyday for the rest of your life? Potatoes or bread.
You’re in line at Taco Bell, what’s your order? I’ve never been to Taco Bell, so I couldn’t tell you what they serve.
How many months are there until your birthday? 5.5 months.
Have you gotten gum stuck in your hair? No.
Where is your sister right now? I don’t have any sisters.
Is your handwriting large, tiny, or pretty normal? Normal, I guess, but I can adjust it to be big, small, print or cursive without too much effort or thought.
Are you currently listening to a song? No, I have the TV on but it’s more background noise than anything else.
If yes, what song is it? ...
Do you have a digital camera? I do, but I never use it.
Do you own any kind of yellow clothing? Nope. This question came up on the last survey too, lol.
What time is it? It’s currently 11.44am. What color are your eyes? Dark brown.
How long does it take you to shower? About eight minutes.
What jewelry do you wear all the time? My wedding and engagement rings, all my earrings and my nose stud.
Any siblings? Nope.
What are you doing tomorrow? Working. I have five dog walks - Sparky and Archie, Bobby and Bailey, Charlie and Trouble, Nera, Buddy and Billy - then a riding lesson, then I need to go and get the food shop done, lol.
What color are your socks? I’m not wearing any.
What color do you wish your eyes were? I’ve always wanted green eyes.
How long is your hair? Around bra strap length.
Can others make you cry easily? No, I tend to cry over situations rather than actual people.
Whose house did you last go to? Pam’s.
Where did you get the shirt you are wearing? It’s from George.
How has the past week been? Busy, but generally it’s been pretty good as we’ve had amazing weather and everyone has been in a good mood, lol.
What year were you born in? 1988.
What size shoe do you wear? UK size 6.
When did you first get your period? I was twelve - I got it the first day of year eight.
Do you like thunderstorms? Yes, I love them so long as I don’t have to be outside in them.
Do you have a bad attitude? I can do sometimes, hahah. Are you the first born? Technically no, as my parents had a still-birth before me. Are you a vegetarian? Nope, though I did experiment with it when I was a teenager.
Are you eating? No, not right now.

This is the story of how I went to a hawks game, watched them get shut out, and met Jonathan Toews.
So the game last night sucked, and I don’t have much to say about it and would much rather forget it happened. But first let me you show you all of my warm up pics.
Tumblr media
Boys wore the camo jerseys for Veteran’s Day and there was a nice little presentation where they brought the vet’s out before the anthem and thanked them for their service. Most of the players wouldn’t stay in one place long enough for me to get good pics unfortunately. (LOOKING AT YOU JOHN HAYDEN.)
Tumblr media
These two dweebs stayed next to each other for almost the entirety of warms up. I’m not kidding. Are you ready for a photo montage?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
P.S. Sorry the quality isn’t great. I blame the camera guy that was up against the glass. THANKS A LOT CAMERA GUY. I HAVE A JOB TOO, YOU KNOW, AND IT’S DOCUMENTING 1988 BEING WEIRDOS TOGETHER OKAY.
Tumblr media
Hey look it’s Adam Burish doing a great job and talking about how the hawks are awesome even though they lost and hurt my feelings. Keep up the good work, Adam!
So after the game I was supposed to take a tour of the locker room, a gift that had been given to me for my birthday, when I got lost trying to find the contact guy. And none of the security people seemed to know where I needed to go either so they sent me downstairs to this room - where other people were. And at first I thought it was a meet up place for everyone taking the tour, but then I started to realize that the people around me were not random people when I suddenly saw Patrick’s dad, then his mom, and girlfriend. Then I saw Corey’s girlfriend walking around and chatting with people and showing them the new baby. Seabs’ wife Dayna was also chilling in there with his kids. And it was...it was very surreal, okay.
I’d only ever seen the majority of these people in pictures and here I was sitting in this room, on this leather sofa, next to this buffet table with all of these wives and girlfriends and family members and no one cared! No one noticed! I was a fly on the wall watching them all interact in front of me.
And then Saader walked into the room and started talking to his girlfriend/fiance and she said how soft his suit felt.
And then Duncs came in and started talking to one of the kids.
And then Tootoo came in and left again and looked at Corey’s baby for a minute.
Patrick’s mom took a picture for someone.
And no one cared that I was there. It was wild as fuck.
As the room started to thin out I felt like maybe I should leave before someone noticed that maybe I shouldn’t be there, so I texted the contact guy and he said he was at the other end of the hallway. As I went to meet him I passed Shea Weber who was talking to some little boys and Brendan Gallagher who seemed like he was not in a great mood lol.
Tumblr media
The locker room is really nice and surprisingly not smelly and I got an autograph from Hossa who happened to be there that night. He had friends or family with him also and he was speaking in his mother tongue and I enjoyed listening. Also yes, they just leave every dude’s jockstrap just hanging out there for all of us to see. Just right there in the open. FUN FACTS.
Tumblr media
This is near the entrance of the locker room and probably my favorite part. 1988′s history right here. And the rings that are displayed are real. I wanted to steal them all.
As I was getting ready to leave the locker room, my guide asked me if I wanted to see the gym where the boys work out and I was like SURE! SHOW ME EVERYTHING. SHOW ME WHERE THEY WASH THE JERSEY’S I’LL STAY FOREVER I DON’T WANNA LEAVE.
When we were walking out, just by sheer chance or luck or fate, I don’t know, I passed by Jonny who was getting ready to leave. I barely kept it together okay, I was not prepared to see him at all, let alone run into him basically.
Our 20 seconds of time together went something like this: he looked right into my soul and said hello to me and said my name and shook my hand and was so kind and so tall and big and so overwhelming and gracious. And he said ‘here let me hold my food out of the photo’ like he didn’t want to ruin the photo with his food container that’s how much of a GOOD he is. Like Jon, Jonny, Jonathan, you can do whatever you want with your food, boo, I don’t care. You’re amazing. You’re wonderful. I love you.
And also I get why now Patrick can’t always keep eye contact with him because WOOOOO BOY it’s a lot, y’all. A LOT. He’s got such a presence.
Tumblr media
But he also looked a little tired that night so I got my pic and basically ran away before I died and because I didn’t want to bother him further. And I walked to my car in a daze and haven’t fully recovered since.
The end.

tiny july-august kdrama roundup!
I finished Hospital Playlist!  I don’t think I liked it QUITE as much some people did, but I’m glad I watched it!  The VERY slice-of-life, not-plot-driven storytelling kind of made it hard for this show to really grab me, but at the same time I appreciated its different and relaxed vibe, and I enjoyed watching it little by little when I just wanted something different and chill.  (It feels kinda weird to describe this show as chill when there were some life-and-death moments, but....I felt like it was pretty chill? lol)
My other beef with Hospital Playlist (though not limited to Hospital Playlist) is that I don’t like the recent trend(?) of really long episodes!  I fully realize that this is illogical on my part, but for some reason even though I can happily sit down and watch 2 or 3 hour-long episodes of something in a row if I have the time, anything thing longer than like an hour and 20 minutes for a single episode is somehow a struggle for me? 🤷‍♀️ Especially if it’s not something that has a really gripping plot or whatever.  I don’t know if this is a Netflix kdrama thing or if it started somewhere else, or what, but please just do ~60 minute episodes or split it into 2 episodes. That’s my extremely self-centered wish 🙏
I also started watching Reply 1988 but again!  Slice-of-life story with at least half of the episodes over an hour and a half long!  It’s cute and I like the retro setting, though.
The other thing I’ve been watching lately is Tale of Arang/Arang and the Magistrate, and I’m 2 episodes from the end of it now!  It’s from 2014 so it doesn’t look especially fancy (compared to more recent fantasy/sageuk shows) and the main couple just kinda...happens, imho (🤷‍♀️) but it has a rather substantial fantasy plot that went in some places I wasn’t expecting when I started it.  Recommend if you’re someone who’s tired of period dramas that focus on royalty, and/or you enjoyed Moon Lovers and would like to see Lee Joongi play a sageuk man w/ mommy issues again.
After I finish Arang, I think I’m going to go back and watch It’s Okay to Not Be Okay or Into the Ring!  I was also kind of interested in Lonely Enough to Love and I just realized that started already, so maybe that too. 🤔

Do you have any kdrama recommendations? I want to watch another Miss oh but could also use some other recs. Thank you and p.s. I love your writing, thank you for sharing them with us ☺️
I have TONS of kdrama recs! Under the cut because it got long.
1) Signal (16 episodes) - I enjoyed this so much, but it’s another one of those shows where you’re either automatically into it starting from episode 1 or not at all. I cried so hard at so many places because some of the storylines/events hit close to home. Fantastic acting, fantastic script, amazing direction… This had everything I ever wanted in a drama. It made me miserable at times in the best way. There was never a wasted moment. Also, I fell in love with ALL THREE OF THE MAIN LEADS.
2) Reply 1988 (20 episodes) - Great storytelling. Also, I know everyone had SO MANY issues with the whole romance portion, but it was never the writer’s intention to have the focus of this season be about who the husband was. This drama was hilarious at times, and there were so many moments where I had to pause so I could laugh without missing anything. This drama is particularly special to me because I watched it with mom and she pointed all the 80s stuff and we #bonded lol.
3) Heartless City (20 episodes) - Noir done medium rare. It was visually pleasing to watch and Jung Kyungho… TTTT i’m a SUCKER okay. I’ve literally liked him since I was in high school, sue me! Anyway, I have a MAJOR issue with how they handled the main female protagonist’s story and the romance because it could have been perfect had they done a specific thing differently but… *shrugs* it was still good.
4) Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People (30 episodes) - Literally the Hong Gil Dong legend has been done to death, but I’ll never get tired of it. Fun fact: I actually really don’t like historical dramas with few notable exceptions. This was great though because the writers set the backstory of Hong Gildong to mesh with Yeonsangun. Also, there was a specific brotherly moment that made me weep so hard while I was watching this eating dinner with my parents. And the DIALOGUE IN THIS. THE DIALOGUE. Oh my goddd, the oneliners are brilliant and it’s a historical drama!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
One last thing about this drama: I probably have a serious emotional attachment to this drama because of actual events that were happening in Korea. I doubt the writers were truly intending to have the timing of the show fit so well with real life events, but one of the best lines of this drama was “We don’t need to change the king’s mind. We just need to change the king.”
5) High School King of Savvy (17 episodes) - I cautiously recommend this because of the whole minor/adult relationship. Also, I love Seo Inguk
6) Squad 38 (16 episodes) - another Seo Inguk drama! I love him! The humor in this show is amazing. The title itself is a portmanteau. 38사기동대 is pronounced “38 sagidongdae.” “Sagi” means scam and “Gidongdae” means unit/task force, and they put it together alksfjasdk! A tax collector goes around scamming rich tax evaders into paying their taxes. And that’s all I’m going to say about this drama because I want you to watch it.
7) Misaeng (16 episodes) - as an office worker, I #relate. Not much in the way of a story, but more character focused. It’s so good. It’s also really heavy stuff, so it can get really depressing to watch.
8) Liar Game (12 episodes) - WHERE IS SEASON 2!? This drama was based on a manga. I never read the manga, but this drama was pretty good!!! There’s also scamming in this.
9) Oh My Ghostess! (16 episodes) - Park Boyoung plays a timid girl who gets possessed by ghosts, and Kim Seulgi plays a spunky ghost who has no recollection of how she died. Romance and Supernatural. There’s also a cooking element. (I literally wanted to write a ghost possession au just because of this show.) Bear in mind that this drama was super funny at times, but it also had really dark moments.
10) Splash Splash Love (2 episodes) - that’s right. 2 Episodes. Just Watch This if you don’t watch anything else on this list. It’s fusion historical, but it’s saved because Kim Seulgi is so funny.
11) Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju (16 episodes) - it’s the lighthearted, coming-of-age rom-com I wanted after heavy dramas made me weak and emo.
12) Let’s Eat Season 1 - I’m specifically recommending season 1 because I disliked season 2 so much. Season 1 had everything - food porn, mystery, romance, and did I mention the food????
13) My Daughter Seoyoung (50ish episodes? I think?) - It’s been a long while since I’ve seen this drama, but it was so much fun to watch. It’s one of those typical kdramas where an honest conversation would solve a lot of problems, but the acting makes it still enjoyable to watch and suspend your disbelief. Lee Boyoung and Lee Sangyoon had really good chemistry.
14) Second Time Twenty Years Old (16 eps?) - Moral of the story: Be Good To Your Mom! It was such a heartwarming drama. Also, Choi Jiwoo is gorgeous. Like backing up a second, I found like a ridiculous amount of similarities between the main character in this drama and my mom, so obviously I’m rooting for the main character like 234235%.
15) Who Are You—School 2015 (16 eps) - don’t be fooled. despite this being a “high school” setting drama, don’t take it lightly. I thought everyone acted really well and made this fun to watch. Bullying Is Bad!
16) High Society - Park Hyungsik but it was handled in such a tongue-in-cheek way that you could forgive it INSTANTLY.
17) Strong Woman Do Bongsoon (16 eps) - Park Boyoung AND Park Hyungsik AND Ji Soo. (But no really, this drama was so cute and I fell in love with Park Boyoung all over again.)
18) Scent of a Woman (i forget how many eps. probably 16) - This is one of the CLASSICS. Woman-With-Terminal-Illness-Wants-To-Go-Through-Bucket-List. Romance Ensues. But it’s handled with such grace and depth in storytelling.
19) Angry Mom (16 eps?) - suspend your disbelief for a second and imagine that your mom enrolls in your high school to find out who your bully is and then beat the ever loving shit out of them. :’) This show actually addresses some heavy topics.
20) Valid Love (20 eps) - this show was fucking depressing and only watch it if you’re in the mood to get real emo real quick. I honestly had no idea what this drama was about going into it. All I saw were teasers for the main three characters, and I thought it was going to be about a drama regarding infidelity or a love triangle. Boy Was I Wrong. Infidelity was a big part of the drama, but it’s not the kind you’re expecting.
21) Yong Pal (16 eps? maybe? i dont remember lol) - i fucking LOVE revenge dramas. Kim Taehee in red lipstick and REVENGE REVENGE REVENGE. It has a weak third act, but I’ll forgive it considering KIM TAEHEE IN RED LIPSTICK.
I am tired, so here are the rest without my lame opinions:
22) It’s Okay, It’s Love
23) Pinocchio
24) I Can Hear Your Voice
25) Healer
26) Witch’s Romance
27) Discovery of Romance
28) Kill Me Heal Me
29) Can We Love?
30) Fight My Way

Lois + her father
lol - by far the tensest relationship in the whole family largely because of how she left and because they’re really similar to one another. With Lucy, there’s been some attempts at reconciliation. With Elenor, there’s been an olive branch extended and some words exchanged now for a couple years. With General Lane? Lois fluctuates between digging stilettos into his side and puncturing a lung and going about her business pretending he doesn’t exist anymore.
Her disillusionment came with high school. For all of their life prior to their father becoming a 4 Star General the Lanes had lived outside of the US and only on military installments around the world. This led to some great exposure for the girls and certain aspects of their lives are all the better for it. However, this meant that the first time Lois lived off base was when she was 14. And the four Lanes moved off base to Washington D.C. in 1988. Overseas, especially on military installments, news of the home country can be slow in arriving or just not all that well broadcasted. This was the era before the internet where info travels super fast. Overseas meant you were sometimes uninformed, especially when your military father tended to keep the news off because when he came home, he just wanted to relax.
So, when they move to the US, Lois and Lucy are suddenly inundated with information and news. Lois begins to get regular newspapers, she watches CNN and all of those conglomerates. There’s an election that year and Lois gets to see how the tv channels handle that aspect of American politics. And it is all vibrantly new to her. The Lane girls also get to experience American Public Schools ( oh the joy ) and it is nothing like the movies the girls grew up thinking it was like. Lois enrolls in her first elective of her time in America - it’s journalism. And she is blown away with how serious her teacher wants these kids to be. Lois starts turning on the news at night, starts snagging the paper in the library when she’s at school early enough. When she starts to talk about the news at the dinner table, Elenor listens, Lucy eats, and Gen. Lane listens with a quarter of an ear. Until her rambling becomes too much and he hasks her not to bring up politics and the news at the dinner table - “We’re eating.”
Lois begins to shut down a bit. It’s awkward after that, but her dad hasn’t out right said “you’re wrong” even when Lois says she doesn’t agree with Reagan or Bush.
Sophomore year, when she’s working on the school paper with her fave teacher and writing actual articles by the mid-semester, is when the disillussionment really starts to set in. She’s talking about something anti-Bush and her father shuts her down. He berates her AND her favorite teacher and her points of view and she gets super upset about it. And unfortunately, Lois doesn’t really have anyone to turn to to hear her out. Her sister has joined JROTC. Her mom doesn’t do anything but brush her hair and say she should relax and not bring up this information to her father.
Lois realizes then that she doesn’t hold the same views as her dad on THIS topic, but she doesn’t completely lose him yet. Until this same reaction happens again and again and again and again. Lois cries herself to sleep and it’s during these episodes that she determines never to be so soft again that she gets like this.
So, that was her disillusionment, but as to how long it took to break wholly from General Lane’s way of thinking ... I’d say that settled itself by the end of high school/beginning of college. The consciously breaking away began in senior year of high school when He forced her to choose between her passion and her family. She chose her passion.
The sad thing about all this is that she was a TOTAL daddy’s girl when she was younger. And her dad loved her to bits and showed her off to everyone. “Hey, look at my kid who speaks 6 different languages.” “Hey, look at my daughter, the precocious firebrand.” “Hey, look at my kid going to beat up the other kid who just punched her. Aww, she’s about to give him a black eye. She’s the greatest.””Hey, look at my kid, the honor student.” Like, General Lane was the guy driving around with a “My student’s an honors student” bumper sticker and his coworkers gave him shit for it, but he was just so damn proud of his daughters. Gen. Lane and Lois went to Daddy-daughter dances. They played sometimes when Lane wasn’t dead on his feet tired.
Gen. Lane loves Lucy, but everyone KNEW how damn proud he was of his straight A daughter with the megawatt smile and the witty banter and the strength of an ox. Lois was the perfect child. Until high school.
Most officers know - especially after one former colleague was demoted for it - not to mention General Lane’s OTHER daughter. Lucy’s the apple of his eye and always has been. Has he told you about how she passed her tests with flying fucking colors?
