i thought getting away from my family would let me be in a better place to create more art, thats one of the things i was so excited about but this feels just as stressful as when i was the only earner supporting my family during covid. i just want a stable job so i can make art. i dont want making art to be my Job. i dont want to be a ''starving artist'' begging for people to care about my art i just want to make art. but fuck i dont know how to sustain any of this

sorry for this mess. insurance is different out here and i havnt been able to find a psych either so its not like i can talk about this in therapy instead of venting on my art blog. all my life i wanted to make things without the fear of it all being destroyed. the main reason i havnt branched out from illustrations is because its entirety can be saved digitally even if its physically ruined. my sketchbooks were thrown away or ripped apart by my family either from carelessness or anger to hurt me but now that im finally enough safe to have them again or make something i can hold in my hands without the fear that someone will come in break it and make me clean up its corpse i cant afford it

1) cant pwASPD care about people? (i technically dont care about people in a way thats NOT transactional, limerant, anxious, hypervigilant, fearful of abandonment/rejection/violence, a source of comfort, a source of company or to appease loneliness, a source to appease boredom, or otherwise i cant be bothered to replace people because of how unique their particular set of characteristics are (ideals, mannerisms, personality, interests, ethics, commonalities, etc) and how 99% of humans are annoying or i dont click with (and i really dont wanna build another relationship/memories/etc; its so annoying and seems like such a boring waste of time and annoying to have to do all over again), but whatever, its still there. and its somewhat linked to emotion. so i personally count it. i guess.

2) is trying to help people because you feel like you'll get hurt otherwise as social instinct? or, if its annoying to see someone do something without your help? 1.) pwASPD definitely can and do care about people, sometimes for transactional reasons, sometimes for emotional ones, and often for a mix of the two. However, there are some pwASPD who simply don't have the capacity or interest to care about anyone and are aro and aplatonic, and they are valid too.

2.) Nope, neither of those are social instincts. Social instincts include the instincts that pull you to "help your fellow man" for no reason other than they are a human and you are one as well. Social instincts in general are the set of subconscious behaviors, thought patterns, chemical and hormonal releases (such as dopamine, oxytocin, and progesterone), emotions, etc etc that cause humans to stay in packs, form close emotional bonds, not violate rules/codes set by society including moral codes aka manners, seek help from other people, seek emotional validation and coregulation, procreate, help others without other reason, not use/manipulate/lie to others or anything else that may risk destroying a bond, etc. It's the set of things that is the difference between any pack animal vs any solitary animal.

3.) Yes, generally, this comes from partially developed social centers in the brain in singlets or system where all members have this feeling, or from denial in other situations, as you mentioned. Some people need to cope by believing people are good, and while this is rare in pwASPD, the more people you have using one brain, the more chance some of them will have different coping mechanisms. My system has a couple members who feel that way as well, despite having other ASPD symptoms.

What was your Tav’s place of birth and raising like?

Varien is originally from Elturel, but left before... all that went down. They lived in a poor area with a nearly absent mother and mainly raised themself. They lacked the social skills to make friends with other humanoid children but bonded easily with the animals that roamed the streets. They were maybe 16 when they left home after putting up with enough abuse. Initially, they fled to the Reaching Woods with the intention to die, but was taken in by an enclave of druids who taught them to survive the forests' harsh winters and ever growing packs of gnolls.

What relationship did your Tav have with their family/guardian(s) growing up? Has that changed with age?

There practically was no relationship due to the neglect. They consider themself without family altogether. They don't know whatever became of their mother, and it's likely they never will.

Did your Tav receive any formal or informal education? If yes, how well did they learn? If no, why not?

It was the druids who taught them how to read, write, and the skills they needed to live in the wilderness. They were difficult to teach and struggled to grasp many concepts, maybe that's why they never imparted their knowledge of druidic magic to them.

What hobbies does your Tav have? How did they acquire these interests?

Varien made up for their poor writing skill in their ability to draw, which is why even though they can write well enough now, they still prefer to keep their journal in the form of drawings. They also gained an interest in body modification, giving themself tattoos and piercings. This was born from their gender dysphoria and desire to control the appearance of their body, as well as feeling that they were able to honor Silvanus through the shedding of their own blood.

Did your Tav have any formal or informal employment? If yes, what was their job? If no, how did they make ends meet? How did they feel about it?

they initially became a ranger as repayment for the original druids for taking them in, and when they were wiped by gnolls, they travelled and simply survived on nature's bounty until finding the Emerald Grove druids. They like these druids much better and feel more appreciated for their work protecting them and the land from those who wish harm. They have no need for money, what they seek is purpose, and they found it.

What is your Tav’s favourite childhood memory?

They remember so little, and what they do remember is negative. not to be edgy but they don't really have one.

What circumstances led to your Tav becoming their Class/Subclass?

well I've technically answered this one. they're a beast master because of how they're more versed with animal behavior than that of people. They will, post game, respec to a druid because they decide enough is enough and theyre determined to learn their magic.

Did your Tav have any romantic and/or sexual relationships prior to their illithid adventure? If yes, who was it with and what was it like? If no, how did they feel about being single?

no, and they were miserable. They desperately wanted a romantic connection but had such a damaged self image they wouldn't allow that for themself. Having to survive predation as a vulnerable youth, a sexual connection was out of the question. They had very buried feelings for Halsin, but things didn't line up for the two of them until Varien was already in a relationship with monogamous Gale.

What was your Tav doing when they were taken by the mind flayers?

Varien was dispatched on a tracking mission to find refugees from Zevlor's group who had gotten separated on the way to the Grove. They were gone for a while, which is why they didn't know Halsin had left and gotten captured until returning with their new infected friends.

What would your Tav consider to be their greatest skill? Is this accurate?

Staying out of the way. Their actual greatest skill would be gaining the trust of even the most savage of beasts.

What would your Tav consider to be their greatest flaw? Is this accurate?

it would be a long list, none of it would be true. Their greatest flaw is their chronic self esteem problem that constantly holds them back from happiness.

What opinion does your Tav have about the Gods?

Gods are fickle beings who mainly look out for themselves, but they don't consider this to be an inherently bad thing, as often gods' desires can align with mortals' needs. They worship Silvanus, and through their prayers they earned their hormonal balance that favors testosterone, aiding their transition.

How does your Tav feel about the wilderness?

The wild is everything. life, death. fire, ice. peace, chaos. growth, decay. it inspires them like nothing else, and they find peace knowing that their passing will be part of this ever turning cycle of everything.

How does your Tav feel about the city?

it feels unbalanced, loud, smelly, stuffy. it's over stimulating and terrifying. the water is tainted and the air is heavy, whatever grows is removed with no regard for its life. yet, they don't think the city is completely lost land. they dream of a city that welcomes nature in. they think that maybe one day, a city can be convinced to try to strike a balance with nature and find peace with it. Something that Silvanus may not agree with, but they still feel could be.

What motivates your Tav to either embrace or resist the tadpole?

they don't want to be Illithid. they don't welcome the tadpole because they want control over their own body, and that means no roommates.

How does your Tav feel about killing?

death is a part of the cycle of all that is, and in nature you must be prepared to kill to live. They prefer not to, and they don't believe in killing for the sake of killing, but they will kill to protect others.

How good of a liar is your Tav? How do they feel about lying?

they spent so much time learning how to mimic mannerisms to fit in with people that they're actually a fantastic actor and good at lying. Honesty is best when dealing with those you wish to earn the respect of, but they have no qualms about using deception when the situation truly calls for it.

What is your Tav’s greatest fear?

That their life will never ever have any purpose or meaning. And after falling in love with Gale, their greatest fear becomes losing him. They finally have something godsdammit. don't take it away.

What is your Tav’s greatest desire?

They just want to feel safe. just once.

What is your Tav’s greatest regret?

They're happy that they have what they have with Gale, and do not misunderstand, they don't regret their monogamous arrangement for a second, but they do often wonder how much differently their life could've gone if they hadn't taken so long to accept love.

How does your Tav feel about love?

love is the most powerful force of all, even more so than nature. they didn't always think themself worthy, but even then they were a romantic soul. living vicariously though romance novels and finding joy in seeing couples enjoying each others company. oh how love changed them for the better.

Has your Tav become particularly close to anyone romantically and/or platonically in their journey? If so, who, and what is the relationship like? If no, why not?

Gale fixed them fr. platonically, they became especially close to damn near everyone really. That's their family, the first they've ever had. And Arabella is like the daughter they never knew they needed.

What first impression does your Tav give off to strangers?

kinda creepy honestly. they way they just stare silently through you, dressed in the bones and skins of animals and reeking of dirt. they seem to have the wide eyed stare of a frightened animal.

How does your Tav feel about what others think of them?

OH THEY CARE SO MUCH AND IT DEVASTATES THEM.

Does your Tav have a treasured item with them? If yes, what is it and why is it special? If no, how do they feel about item sentimentality in general?

Patch is a stuffed cat they can't rest at night without. Patch was their only friend for years, the only one they ever had to talk to. To them, Patch is alive, if not in the traditional sense. If anything happened to her, they would mourn her like any other old friend.

How does your Tav feel about giving and receiving orders?

they prefer to receive them, and feel like giving them is overstepping. However, in the heat of the moment they're actually a great leader and thus it sort of. just happened that way. it really just started with their experience with the area and went from there.

How well does your Tav function under pressure?

great as long as they don't think about it. but sometimes they do, and they crumble. Someone else has to take over.

What advice would you give to your Tav?

could you tell us about umami and grendel?

YES i CAN, theyre kind of also my group playtime ocs so they have a variety of AUs, but theyre pretty consistent thematically throughout, so for the Basics Umami: Gentle and gregarious giant from a pack of communal punks relatively cut off from the rest of society, good natured and primed to be ripped apart by the realities of life Outside Home. Grendel: Only child with basically 0 support network and chronic conditions that rig their entire life from the jump, prone to self destructive habits, especially if things start looking Too Good. MORE BELOW...

Umami is adopted, sometimes this means being a baby left on a doorstep in Appalachia, other times this is being a fuzzy puffbaby found on the icy fields of a tidally locked snowball, but either way she always sticks out like a sore thumb amongst her peers. Tends to feel like she doesnt quite fit, both socially and just. Physically, in some cases more than others, so you get a very restless late bloomer who finally leaves the fairly cozy farmy life on her own little adventure! Her house is a bus, and at some point it doubles as a food truck- which she charges absolutely not enough for, so once she's Really out by herself that alone is a struggle. But she tends to do well by pure charisma- and parking near bars with $3+ Pay What You Can burritos the size of a baby Grendel on the other hand has just had shit luck from the get go! Bare minimum care-taking, running around with packs of half feral kids stealing stuff, typically gets mauled by some animal in a thievery attempt gone bad and then is promptly sent to one of those...you know when instead of going to jail or juvie some kids get sent to those.."character building" nightmare camps. That kinda thing, in their "canon" it involves working on the coast and doing oyster farming and isnt actually the worst for awhile. They do get in trouble there though and then go to Actual Prison and continue to dig a hole because even getting out on good behavior, they're still kinda kneecapped by.. ~The Prison Industrial Complex~. They usually make money via theft and Whatnot bc they are trying to keep up with medicine for maintaining a heart transplant or something similar. Canon/sci-fi grendels are in somewhat less dire of a situation and just have an Experimental one shoved in there- though there is probably money on their head for that No-Maintenance billionaire heart...(which they escaped with). Their maintenance problem comes Later. Zombie au grendel gets Bit and steals a bunch of proto-cures that only work on a monthly or so basis, sci-fi grendel sips something they shouldnt, etc etc. Eventually the two of them meet and the more Grendel learns about Umami the more they cannot fucking stand her- they just get So Mad about the differences in their situations that they decide to fuck her over by stealing her whole ass house/bus and ditching her somewhere. Thus thrusting poor unprepared Umami Directly into the middle of everything with Nothin, and leaving Grendel with the GUILTIEST CONSCIENCE..and a bus! Now everything after this i don't have especially figured out bc Solo and Friend Sandbox makes things happen differently fdhjgf Oh yeah also their 'canon' setting is a sorta capitalist hellscape where reality is a little bit broken and there might be little a monsters? Ish and her mud family also live there! Grendel is also my little meow meow but they kinda take turns with umami in the baby rotation, but its kind of a different Vibe. LOVE the scelids! I was curious though, you mentioned that the plantimals of Fytikó are slower than animal life- does that apply to scelids as well? What sort of timescale do they operate on? Also have you put any thought into what their communities look like?

Thanks for the question! I admit my post is a tad bit outdated, and ill need to rewrite it (heck, i even changed the name of Fytikó to Chloris) but to answer your question, scelids are actually quite swift and nimble creatures, and operate on a similar time scale to the average earth mammal. I did mention in my pinned post that animals move slower, but after giving it more thought id imagine that would only apply to the earlier forms of plantimals which developed, and over time they wouldve evolved to move faster. Scelids evolved many millions of years after the first plantimals emerged, and so had enough time to learn how to move fast enough to be more than noticeable to the human eye

To answer your other question, im not really sure what you mean by "community", but i have given thought to what their civilisations could look like (admittedly, that still needs work). Early and prehistoric scelids wouldve worked and lived in packs, grazing sort of like sheep on the forest floor, but could group together like wolves to take on larger threats or to help tend to each other. As they industrialised, it became common place for a lot of their housing units and other buildings to be built deeper underground rather than above ground, as their ancestors adapted to feel safe on the forest floor while fearing for predators above head; because of this, its built into their nature to stick closer to the ground than to expand upward. In general, they are very social monogamous creatures, and so have many refined and closely-knit cultures and self sustaining societies

TL;DR: theyre pretty swift moving creatures which live on a time scale very close to humans, and their conmunities share lots of parallels to human ones (albeit with lots of differences below rhe surface)

Would it be inappropriate to make an Encanto Wolfwalker AU where Mirabel gets the gift of turning into a wolf in her sleep?

According to the websites I’ve looked at, there aren’t any wolves in Columbia, which could add a sort of social pariah aspect because “what the heck is that creature.” 

IDK if she would have the healing aspect, she wouldn’t have a magic wolf pack or contagious wolfiness.

I know theyre not pack animals but i dont know of any pack animals in colombia

I have done a bit of research in to Columbian wildlife, lots of birds.

The closest I could find to a wolf-like animal that's social-ish are the Crab-Eating Fox and the Bush Dog.

The crab-eating fox is out because they live in pairs and hunt alone, too solitary.

The bush dog, on the other end, lives in groups of up to 12, hunts in groups ranging from 2-12, and has been known to hunt capybara. They have an association with water, like the river where the Blessing originated, and communicate through vocalizations when needed.

They sound like the perfect animal for this, right? Just one problem.

They're under a foot tall, 29 inches long at most. These dudes are tiny, and they're rare enough that they were thought to be extinct for a while.

To earn her trust, being nice to her and other ppl is the easiest way, but she's also prone to trust you if you seem secure somehow or just in charge like a position of authority.
