I'm a day late and a dollar short but what's new?!

We have GOT to talk about the REST of the Thrill Ride O' Love scene. Especially the animatics along the walls telling Hephaestus's story. Because as jarring of a song as What Is Love? was in that scene if fucking fit so well!

First we get the Shadow Hera! Larger than life. Big regal gown, tall adorning crown, Mother of the Gods of Olympus, Goddess of Marriage.

And we get her getting pregnant with Hephaestus! All the way down to his little baby blacksmithing tools :3

And then we see her throw Hephaestus off Mount. Olympus. As is told in his story.

But there's a thing that really caught my attention here. Because in the rest of the story we see him leave out not a single important character to his story! So where is his father? The big guy himself Zeus?

Unless! They're going with the versions of Hephaestus's story where Hera miraculously convinced Hephaestus. Because we've seen Rick switch up the Medusa story. And wow do we love him for it!

But that's not my only point! Circling back to the song and then later on to the story about how Hephaestus trapped Hera, his own fucking mother btw in case that flew over anyone's head like it did mine the first few times I watched ep. 5, and so the gods offered him Aphrodite's hand in marriage in exchange for Hera's freedom.

The whole rest of the time Hephaestus has painted himself the tragic dude in the story. Not necessarily the hero but definitely the victim. We see him get rejected by his mother. By Aphrodite for Ares, from the fucking BEGINGING, and then so on.

But what really fucking gets me is not only did he do this ride exactly like this as a trap for his wife and her lover BUT that he had no fucking clue they were there! He was willing to force Ares to sacrifice Aphrodite, his OWN FUCKING WIFE, over a shield and not think twice of it. He wouldn't have fucking known they were there because as we can clearly see by this counter

He clearly wasn't alerted to the presence of his wife and her love affair! Meaning they just fucking materialized in his amusement park, like gods do.

And the words of the song. Oh the words. "Baby don't hurt me no more?" How about you're the only one who has caused any harm since your mother tossed you off Olympus? And NO I AM NOT EXCUSING WHAT HERA DID! Don't even go there. That's for another time.

You repeatedly got rejected and bro I get it. That shit hurts. As a fellow Black Sheep of the Family™️ I fucking understand my dude. And I also completely understand how much gods don't fucking understand humans. And so it wasn't even a concept in his mind to do anything other than what his family had already done to him. Backstab, betray and barter.

But to have the audacity to beg the woman who didn't want anything to do with you, still doesn't, and was forced to wed you to save her mother, YOUR MOTHER, not to hurt YOU anymore! Sickening.

But he gets it. Now anyway. Or he's starting to. Because of Annabeth. Because she found a friend who is giving her unconditional love. Who isn't making her earn it despite having told her he would earn hers! And she's doing the same. She's falling apart and building herself back up all with this one (1) boy's help. And neither of them know it yet. But ohohohohoho they will soon.

And these few moments Hephaestus spent with Annabeth gave him the biggest vibe check of his fucking immortal life. "Maybe some of us don't want to be that way anymore either?"

Like Sir are you realizing that you TOO took things too far? Not even this time like you said Athena did, which btw she's always taken it too far just throwing this in here, but really? Are you getting it now? Did the twelve year olds fighting to sacrifice themselves despite everything fucking shake your world? Rock you to your very atoms? GOOD! You victim mentality, hero complex asshole.

but pretty much soukoku as an idol group til the photographer/aspireing writer oda somehow gets in a scandle and has his parental rights to his kids taken away. before was shared custody but now is.. not.

at this point dazai was already very ready to quit being an idol. so to try and cover up the oda scandal she leaks some pictures of her kissing some people earlier in her career and some mysterious ginger lady....... she also sets up a bomb under one of the agencys cars to really blow everything over.

chuuya is not happy with this. very not happy with this.

but, now she has the freedom to do whatever she wants with her music. so she gose full pop-punk rock<3<3<3<3 and also this is where stupid animatic make their way into my plan. remember the song black sheep cover by lady in schot pilgram, this is one song chuuya makes when she hits it off on her own. she also gets really popular when she moves to pop punk rock

okay dont actually have much else planned with this- just that 2-3 years later dazai publishes a book and its a crazy best seller. talking about the inner workings of the industry and is working on her next books. mabey publishes another in like a year. i am not fully sure timeline-

the dazai leaving the agensy and car bomb really give off breaking up vibes to chuuya til a hose soaked dazai is in front of her door. not even fake rain just blondie(kunikida) got mad at her plan and desided to try soaking the prick. i dont think they immediately start dating again, but they do at some point. and is secret dating ya.

dazai just shows up to some of chuuyas shows? its a running gag that dazai will somehow get on stage and fuck with chuuya. or mess with the lights. or just anything to make a lil ruckus. the media has no clue how dazai keeps ending up at them at the right place and right time.

so! one time 4-5-6 years after dazai leaves the company and a few years of them dating again, dazai sorta.. stops coming to the shows for a little? like seems to be super busy with new book or smth.

then on anniversary chuuya desides to sing one of her old songs. and dazai is sitting in the croud. and is so so much. at the end the light moves over to dazai in the croud as she walks tword the stage. then the lights shut off when shes on the stage. just those two, heres their dialog have thought up, will be little janky not best but im trying. pls change if want.

Ch: "oh so right here-"

D: "Chuuya Nakahara. that first day i met you. that was begrudgingly one of the best days of my life. you were one of the best things in my life. you are one of the best things in my sorry life."

*the sprinklers to the concert all go off*

Ch: "DAZAI?!!?!"

D:"Remember that first arcade date? it was raining so hard we got instantly soaked. got sick for a week with our managers yelling at us. i hated it, but i hated it with you."

D:"or how we snuck out durring that one stop in paris? i was able to get that shitty corner store wine and a day old baguette and you smiled so wide. it was like the sun opened up in front of me."

D:"Mabey instead you could think of that one time, after that accident at that one fan meet. where you slowly unwound and rewound my bandages. kissing each little thing. had to drag you off before you tryed kissing every molecule of my arms."

Ch, wispering: "Osamu.."

D:"Chuuya Nakahara. i am sick of telling lies to the world. im sick of hiding how my eyes can light up hearing your snorts. im sick of hiding the butterflys in my stomach whenever we brush hands on the sidewalk. im sick of not being able to say and shout to the world im yours. so today, no more hiding."

by this point any audience people that stayed are using the flash on their cameras to take pictures, and dazai had bent down to one knee.

D:"Insted, how about we be Chuuya Nakahara-Dazai and Osamu Dazai-Nakahara? from today to death do us part, will you marry me?"

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY TO THE HELL TO PAY PILOT!!

God, a whole year just went by??? Doesn't feel real honestly... I didn't expect to jump from just 15 subscribers on youtube to 739 in just a year! A lot has happened over the year. I graduated from college and got my Bachelor's Degree, I got to see my mom's side of the family for the first time in my life. And my peepee brain was busy taking a half year hiatus whilst also hyper fixating on a lot of different crap.

I got to brainstorm more what I want for Hell to Pay. Ik you guys were asking for a full animated series but i'm gonna be honest here... the pilot was written and animated all by me, and I had my online and college friends help voice act the pilot for a final. I don't really intend to continue the series animated-wise because that requires a bigger team and a budget and I... don't have the latter.

I've always wanted to continue the story as a webcomic b/c I have an easier time getting the story out at a faster pace compared to another 40-minute animatic episode that'll take another half year to get done... and trust me if I continued at that pace I think Hell to Pay would be incomplete by the time I turn 80 years old and keel over.

Unfortunately for my little baby project's first birthday, I don't exactly have much to give here, since i've been extremely busy storyboarding and drawing concepts for the next episode. But for you guys I can give you the synopsis of the first 5-ish episodes!

BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO SUMMONING

In his second day in the afterlife, Profundus has to learn the ways of haunting in order to make a living not only from the three demons whom he met yesterday, but 10 more demons who Mollis brought in for extra help. Meeting new faces, witnessing more traumatic ways how to torture the living, Profundus finds out that being summoned by the living could bring him closer to finding his home universe and locate his wife Honey. But what happens if the first time he's summoned he gets trapped by a group of demon-worshipping college students?

CE N'EST PAS UN TRAVAIL

Profundus needs to find a job on top of his haunting duties in order to make a much more stable living, starting from rock bottom. After failing to find a suitable job from his "friends", he's offered a job as a still-life model from a self-proclaimed "Dadaist" named Clades. Upon hearing the demoness' name, Infortunii and co. warn of how infamous and dangerous Clades can be. Can Profundus quit his job on time before Clades and her followers lead Profundus into certain death?

PRISONER OF THE BODY

Attending classes on spells for newly deceased demons, Mollis teaches the easiest lesson for demons, possession. Concocting a plan to find a way into his universe and get a chance to speak to Honey one last time, Profundus plans to possess a mortal and meet up with Honey as said mortal. But plans go awry once Profundus accidentally kills the body of the man he was possessing and is trapped inside his body. Can the gang help pull Profundus out of this predicament?

BOX BITCH

Having no choice, Infortunii has to let an old acquaintance move in with her and Profundus after Box Bitch's landlord kicks them out (Fyi, their name is not actually Box Bitch, that's Infortunii's unaffectionate nickname for them). Times get tough when Box Bitch becomes an unbearable roommate and troubles both demons living under her roof, but tension rises once Box Bitch brings up that Infortunii used to be the life of a party, now she's a sanitized wet blanket, which easily ticks her off. What happened to Infortunii that soured her relationship with an old friend?

FALLEN

News riles up in the afterlife, an angel has been banished from Caelestia and has fallen down to Damnatio! Taken in by Mollis and into safety, the fallen angel introduces herself as Lapis. Seeing her as the closest thing to a holy being, Profundus tries to bond with Lapis, claiming both have common ground in this hellish afterlife. Selfish motives aside, could Profundus and co. help and protect a struggling Lapis adjust in the afterlife?

Hell to Pay as a series is planned to have 4 seasons/books. The first season/book is planned to have 33 chapters, idk how long it'll take to finish the first book, but a few years is definitely the most realistic expectation.

Poll Runner: I never read Percy Jackson or anything, but the musical is FIRE. This song is especially sad, Percy just found his place, and feels like he's about to lose it all over again, which reminds him of all he's lost, and how he feels like a screw up for being kicked out of so many schools, his breakdown culminating in his grief over the loss of his mother. And yes, it's absolutely perfect for projecting onto OCs

HHHHHHHORSE?!?!??!!! Hello?!?!! FUCKIN LOVE THE HORSEBEAST HORROR absolutely underutilized potential for the god of horses. As a horse girlie who has definitely almost been killed by various horses over the course of my life (and loves them anyway) I LOVE a good murder horse. Like YESSSSS give me a prey animal with a too wide mouth and too many teeth and a hunger in its eyes and the way it stalks around him like a predator. Give me the horror of an animal that SHOULD NOT BE in the middle of the ocean but it *is*. And then of course the parallel between the Trojan Horse leading his men to victory vs the Poseidon horse killing them killing them dead because Also ALSO. I MCFUCKING LOVE horses. But also. Horses can be goddamn scary. I’ve been in dangerous situations around horses where you immediately realize that you are so small and crushable and they are so large and fast and have big hard hooves and they will destroy you and the ocean is the same way and ugh. Horsebeast Poseidon is my new fave concept for him. Anyway my take on your animatic and the breathless terror of Odysseus absolutely getting whipped around and the waves hammering the ship into oblivion and it’s so *easy*. I lost my train of thought. Oh yeah. SO GOOD. thank you. 10000/10 great concept, phenomenal execution. Can’t thank you enough.

I always found horses beautiful animals! And scary horses are such a big plus!! Just slap a humanoid grin onto a horse and then put it in any random environment, and it will be scary no matter what! Maybe… 😅

My first sketches of him were only him as a horse, but the truth is that I have never really taken my time to, well, draw horses! Believe me! I rarely draw horses! Or even animals at all! My plan was to have Poseidon as a horse throughout the whole animatic, but I kind of scrapped it and gave him a human design, which was based on his horse form. So that's why he looks like…. well… Hades I guess? Given that he has black straight (also wet) hair. He had also black clothing but ended with only white.

Anyways, I think Im going off track now! I love horses too, and I'm definitely planning on making some doodles of dear Horseidon!

Moral Orel #43: “Honor” | December 19, 2008 - 12:15AM | S03E13

Moral Orel concludes! The final episode, “Honor” finally aired December 19, 2008, 3 years and a few days after the first episode aired at midnight, December 14, 2005. It aired as the conclusion of The 44 Nights of Orel, which included not just a Scott & Dino intro, but also a black and white bumper written by Dino, which was scored by a song he wrote and recorded after finishing the episode.

The episode opens with a brief flashback to the ending of Best Christmas Ever, which is cited as being exactly one Christmas previous. It is also scored by “Valentine” by I.O. Perry. Orel has aged one year over the course of three seasons. It’s like St. Elsewhere on a very mild steroid. (sighs), St. Elsewhere intentionally had two seasons of it’s show represent one year of real time, because medical residencies are typically thr–

Excuse me. This is a write-up about Moral Orel. Honor is about Orel grappling with the fact that he doesn’t honor his father. The episode also focuses on a Clay and Stopframe’s relationship, which has become strained after Stopframe witnesses Clay kissing Censordoll, which happens in this episode at alternate angle. Orel gets advice from Reverend Putty to seek out Stopframe and ask him why he loves his dad so much, in order to perhaps find something in him worth Honoring. Stopframe and Orel have a surprisingly nice time together, in a non-molesty way, even. Meanwhile Clay seethes with jealousy, and tries to get Stopframe’s attention with the stuffed bear that he lied about shooting in Nature (part two).

The episode begins with Orel having his cast taken off. He’s also told he’ll be limping for the rest of his life. Dino mentions in his video commentary that a few moments of animation had to be cut around because Orel was erroneously animated without his limp. He also mentioned his desire to possibly produce more episodes of Moral Orel, some of which could be set before Nature and some after, with the limp being a tell. 

The penultimate scene, where Clay confronts Stopframe at his apartment is pretty moving, and has some incredible acting from Scott Adsit. There’s also some great dark humor, and one of my favorite dialogue exchanges: Orel figures out Stopframe is gay for Clay and asks him “you like my dad the way my mom likes my dad, don’t you?” Stopframe: “your mom likes your dad?” Perfect shit, man.

Because the show was cut short, it sounds like Dino didn’t quite get to do the ending he had planned. He credits Duke Johnson with coming up with the idea of getting to see Orel all grown up, which is one of the final images of the show. Orel is grown with a kid, and he’s in fact married to Christina. We see Shapey and Block in photos on the wall, all grown up with mustache jobs. Orel is the head of a happy, loving family. What’s most notable about this future for Orel is that he’s still religious. He also still honors his parents by including a photo of them on his wall, looking old and miserable. Before this flashback, we also see other happy, healthy families in the episode, like Joe and Nurse Bendy ice skating together, and Reverend Putty with Stephanie.

The final, FINAL scene, is under the closing credits. Orel dismantles his stop-motion camera and boxes it up and wraps it as a Christmas present for Shapey and Block. They had to go and do a Home Movies, sheesh! 

The episode was co-written by David Tuber, who uploaded the animatic for the episode to YouTube 8 months ago! Isn’t that cool? There are some very good jokes in this, like Stopframe stopping himself from puking by putting his finger under his nose, Looney Tunes style. The run where he keeps hallucinating Clay’s face has a funny payoff where he redundantly hallucinates it over a different Clay face, found on one of his old campaign posters.

That’s Moral Orel. Here are my top ten episodes, not ranked, but in viewing-order order. Also, I'm counting Nature as one episode because one time they actually did air it that way. Keep your peepers peeled for that in an upcoming EPHEMERA CORNER.

For some reason I wanted to mark the end of Moral Orel with a sincere post but I'm too lazy to do it justice. But I will say this: The airing of this season just so happened to coincide with the three months my dad was dying of cancer in our house. It was, needless to say, a dreadful, miserable, painful period of my life that I can't fully decouple this season from. But man did I vibe with it extra hard at the time. Still do. I guess I can't say I recommend experiencing the show this way, but...

I definitely worked through a few things myself on this watch, but I remember that time and this is a lovely message and I love you and I'm glad you're with me, bud. You are not a bitch and this was not at all frothy.

OH BOY!! You have no idea what you have just unleashed :}

Okay so Benny is from my original story Time and Again which I have been working on for about a year? Maybe 2? I haven’t made very much progress but I have a vague idea of where it’s going?

Anyway.

TaA is about Prince Benjamin of the White Pine Kingdom who’s on his way to his 8th (iirc) betrothal hearing (man has been rejected once a year for 7 years…). He’s accompanied by his Knight and Guard Sir Aspen of the Glade who at one point was his best friend until they both became to busy with their duties. Aspen came back into his life when they were both 18 and he was stationed as one of the prince’s main guards but their relationship was never as close as it once was.

Now they’re 25 and have no idea how to talk to each other without an underlying sense of awkward professionalism.

On their way to the meeting, they’re attacked by a group of lizard men with smokey eyes who take out a bunch of their men. Aspen is able to take them down but ends up mortally wounded. While comforting Aspen Benny is taken out by one of the lizard men who had one last burst of energy.

As he lay dying he makes a silent wish for a second chance and you’ll never guess what happens next… he wakes up back in bed with a very healthy Aspen greeting him like he had that morning.

A part of me wants to continue rambling about the plot but the other part of me wants to keep it a secret lmaoooo

Currently the only stuff I have done for it is a sketched out PMV, an unfinished animatic, a confession scene that I will probably rewrite but had to unleash it on the world, a story playlist, and like 1 actual image of Benny

It’s main inspirations are: Re: Zero and like a handful of Stranger Things Steddie time loop fanfics back when I still liked Stranger Things. Now that I’ve played In Stars and Time there might be some influence from there too (specifically Loop influencing TaA’s Goddess of Life and Death)

I love my fucked up little guy… he goes through so many horrors and he’s burrowed so deep in my brain.

I may write a lil Time Infection AU piece based on that one post about telling someone about the loops and having them be pulled in. I think that would absolutely break Benny’s lil mind.

Like imagine…

You’re shouldering all of this trauma loop after loop, watching the man you love die because you’re too weak to save him. There’s a part of you that’s so pitifully lonely and another part that’s relieved that he’s oblivious to it all. That he won’t have to deal with the pain and suffering you do.

One loop you slip up, you finally break down and come clean. You tell him everything, the death, the loops, how you love him. He loves you too, he always has, he never stopped.

And then he dies. Again. The loop starts over.

You wake up and to your abject horror he doesn’t say his usual starting lines. Instead he looks to you with pain and confusion and TERROR. He remembers. He doesn’t remember all of it but he remembers the past loop. He remembers dying. He remembers you love him.

He remembers…

He’s not supposed to remember.

Yeah… like ughhh it’s such a good concept but it doesn’t work in the story I have written!!!! But I wanna write it ANYWAY!!!!

I only found out about Cringetober AFTER October was over. What's more cringey than doing it three months later and also using my own list? Credits of the OG trend to @sleeprann on Deviantart, and Awestin Martinez.

Day 1: Heterochromia

I kept the heterochromia itself pretty basic and went all in on the 2000's aesthetic that was hyper cringey and self aware but also unapologetic and fun.

Day 2: Self Insert

I'll explain this one a little bit: I had exactly one self insert OC when I was a kid and it was for a short lived nuzelock comic. She would find the person I've become so cringey.

Day 3: Gary Stu

This started as a joke that no one knows what a Gary Stu is. When looking up examples, fucking SPENCER FROM ICARLY WAS LISTED. WHAT MALE POWER FANTASY DOES SPENCER REPRESENT??? SETTING RANDOM OBJECTS ON FIRE AND ONLY HAVING TEENAGE FRIENDS WTF? Anyways here's the Iconic Gary Stu Kirito from SAO doing that one spencer shay meme. Gary Stu and Mary Sue aren't valid terms, I'll get into this another time.

Day 4: Glomping

Thank god these days are behind us. Never hug a stranger at mach speed ever again.

Day 5: Furry OC

I do draw furries sometimes! I just don't do it often because I have a strict NSFW policy while living with others as a form of respect for our shared spaces, and every time I've accepted a furry commission or request I've been tricked into doing something fetishized or NSFW. Which has made me more than disappointed and frustrated. I like furry designs, I love playing with textiles and color pallets. So it's not off the table, I just need the NSFW rule to be taken seriously in the future. the last time was an obvious kink and it was a minor who requested it, off topic, but SUPER DON'T PUT ME IN THAT POSITION. You're way too young to be interacting with people in that way and I'm never going to enable that ever. I will find your mom and let her know. Anyways,

Day 8: Deviantart Base.

I didn't know how to interpret this one, so I did both things I figured it'd be. I found a base on DA and drew over it (base credit linked here,) And drew a base for people to use, I just did a similar style to the base I found. The OG artist does a mix of sfw and nsfw but the filter is turned on by default so you shouldn't see anything you aren't prepared to just opening the link passively.

Day 9: Nicktoons

Every actually good cartoon seemed to get banished to Nicktoonz, and it made me incredibly sad when it happened, but happy that I could expect something good to be playing during the block that something else I didn't like was going on the main channel. I decided to feature the ones that were my faves growing up, My Life as a Teenage Robot, El Tigre, and Danny Phantom (Butch Hartman DO NOT INTERACT)

december song recs!

so... this month has been kind of hard. a lot of stress from anxiety about the things i can or cannot do, there's always this sense of hopelessness. but... i think i'm excited for 2024. i can't believe this year is already over! it's december man... it's the year's end already.

what wonderful lyrics, yorushika never fails to disappoint me with their simple yet heartwrenching lyrics, nostalgic imagery, tackling problems that many people currently face. i love how they use lyrics that make the speaker sound uncertain like "i don't know", because it's a real feeling. my personal favorite line is something like "my life would've ended at 27, but rock and roll saved me". i know this is a reference to something, but honestly it makes me reflect on everything that's changed my life. i'm really thankful for all these animes and mangas and video games i've experienced. i wouldn't be here without them.

The Promise of Rad Sechrist’s “Project City” [Part 1]

In November 2021, Rad Sechrist, creator of the well-regarded series, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, announced the creation of a platform known as Project City. Writer, comedian, and musician Ethan Becker, director and storyboarder Chase Conley, and character designer, storyboarder, and illustrator Coran Kizer Stone, joined on as co-creators of this platform.

Project City was formerly named the Rad How to School, when it was only an animation school. Sechrist recently described the platform as “like several small creator owned studios banding together” to tell stories they wanted. In this article, I’ll examine Project City and projects on the platform. I’ll also discuss the project’s impact on the animation industry and indie animation space.

The official website of Project City describes it as a “project based platform for learning how to create animation.” It proposes a way for artists to fund their own projects by “splitting up the Intellectual Property into Fractional shares” that anyone can buy. This will allow fans to “fund the projects that they want to see happen and artists get to create their vision.” Future profits go to the IP holder. They are then “divided amongst investors and creators, according to their ownership percentages,” in a process known as fractional intellectual property or F-IP for short.

The site says it is trying to seek stories from creators providing “diverse perspectives that explore controversial subject matter” that larger studios wouldn’t touch, while trying to “teach students the ins and outs of animation…[and] allowing them to invest in animated projects.”

The website’s FAQ says that Project City lets people “learn how to make animation” by working on their own projects and offering classes about the “different stages of the production process.” [1] The same FAQ states that there is a Discord, notes that people can access classes they paid for until their account is inactive, and answers specific questions about projects and teachers. All in all, this platform, which reportedly has a small staff, shows promise beyond anything in the usual studio system.

Project City’s section for animation classes has courses taught by top professionals in the animation industry. These classes focus on voice acting, animation programs, storyboarding, artwork fundamentals, pitching a series, and concept art. Others talk about character design, life drawing, film making, writing for animation, and fundamentals of animation storyboarding.

One of the more interesting sections is about investing in your favorite projects. There are four projects ready to be funded as soon as the F-IP process begins. All four have begun pre-production: Wonna the Wanderer, Robot Hunter: Rossum, Delinquents, and The Brave War.

The first of these series is by Coran Kizer Stone. Its story is simple: a young girl named Wonna wanders into a forest, meeting an old man who sends her on “the most dangerous missions to meet and destroy the most powerful beings” in this world. Currently, it has a script, storyboards, an animatic, and visual development.

The second series is by Chase Conley. In this series, artificial humans known as Primus Proxies have taken mankind prisoner. When a robot champion, Robot Hunter Rossum, appears to kill off the robot oppressors, the real champion, the real Rossum, watches, deciding whether it will aid or stop the impostor.

The third series is by Ethan Becker. It is about “kindness and having fun” with a series of short stories. It is set in the real world rather than a fantasy one. There are characters, such as Pat and Titi, who struggle over whether to kill people, Bo, who has a crush on Zoey, best friends Zoey and Su, and a boy named Max who misses his family.

The final series, The Brave War, is a unique one because Sechrist is one of the co-creators, with writer and director Andra Gunter and Daniel Rojas. This animated film focuses on a group of young graffiti artists “from Watts make a punk song that goes viral.” Before they fulfill their wishes, a “kaiju apocalypse happens, destroying the world and their plans.”

In keeping with Sechrist’s desire for more young adult animation, this is a young adult “2d animated movie with all original music,” featuring Nya Durango, a painter and clothing designer who is 16 years old, an avid drawer C.J., also known as Caleb James, who is 12, and wants to prove himself to Nya and her friends. There’s a crew leader known for his incomplete ideas, Knowledge Croswell, and his little sibling, Essence, who has a “quiet dry sense of humor.”

The series has already been promoted on the Kipo subreddit, where it is described as the “next project after Kipo.” [2] Andra and Rojas previously both worked on Kipo. Specifically, Andra wrote some songs for Kipo, while Rojas composed music for the series.

On the Kipo subreddit, Sechrist said that music for The Brave War will be composed by Rojas. He described it as separate from Kipo and stated that The Brave War may turn into a bigger series in the future. He argued that The Brave War, in terms of its content, is “somewhere between Guardians of the Galaxy, Walking Dead, and Attack on Titan. Sechrist noted that one of the film’s character, Essence, is non-binary. He further explained that in the film, creatures/monsters are affected by people’s energy, whether they are good or bad. He also argued that the film will have the highest quality animation possible. The show was promoted on other subreddits as well. Sechrist is also working with Gunter on Kin, an animated music series about a demon girl named Kin who falls in love with an angel, and after the angel’s death, goes on a “revenge mission to kill God.”

The platform also has a number of other projects in different stages of completion. This includes stories about miners (Amythias), anime battles (Sideman vs. Beta Squad), a girl who tries to survive in a dangerous, dark cave (Nina), a student who has to face off against a robotic food service who tries to put local food trucks “out of business” (Soul Food), two sisters with magical powers (Hanh and Minh), a young Chupacabra taking chances in an annual band battle (Monstar), and an inter-dimensional wrestling championship (Battle Dimension). There are others about houseless people (Hobos), a mythical shapeshifting monster (Lagahoo Girl), supernatural high school sophomores (Revamped), supernatural gangs (Spirit Fist), a teen girl who accidentally time travels (Time Trip), or a series taking place inside of a video game (Digital Hijinks).

There are various projects consisting of creators sharing fan art, fan comics, webzines, short films, graphic novels, or trying out their storyboarding and drawing. Some projects focus on topics such as masked wrestling (Los Torneos), a gangster trying to leave his brothers (Old Dog), superhuman spies (Titan Effect), a space fighter pilot and his team (Ganymede), and friends who beat up angels (The Pact).

Others share ideas for magic, mystery, thriller, horror, neo-noir, sci-fi fantasy, adventure, humor, action, sports, supernatural, detective, and slice-of-life animated series. [3] The same site hosts various webcomics, including a sci-fi comic with nudity titled For Those Who Wonder, an adventure story titled Boundless!, and a comedic, fantasy action titled Taverns and Tentacles. [4] While there is a lot there, I wish the site was better organized with more subcategories.

Before looking into Project City, I was only familiar with The Figments, The Garden Age, and Indigo. The head writer and project manager of The Figments, Jennifer Rust, who I have mentioned in past articles, is the creator of The Journey for Our Lives, Planet Magi, and Little Wolf, all on Project City. The Figments is created by Kip, creator of the webtoon Welcome To Sleepy Hollow. In an interesting aside, before it became an animated series, Kipo was a webcomic which ran for 32 issues on a website run by Sechrist. Some of the webcomics on Project City may follow the same path.

On January 7, Sechrist said they were going to do a “very small test run of FIP shares to fund just one shot of Brave War to start,” and asked if there are some cool anime-style animators and background artists he should know about. This led artists and animators to promote themselves in the comments.

On January 28, Ethan Becker posted a video on his channel entitled “I quit my NETFLIX job for this.” In the video, Becker said that they are trying to produce shows that major studios are too afraid to touch, explained what F-IP is, and described a few projects they are working on.

This includes a show by Titmouse Chris Prynoski, who produced shows like The Legend of Vox Machina, The Midnight Gospel, Metalocalypse, and Megas XLR. He described his series in development, Leafland, which has no plot, no characters, just feelings, and experience getting high.

Becker talked about his show, Delinquents, with all the “good” characters killed off. Instead it focuses on the bad kids who live in an abusive household. He said that he would be incorporating many of his personal experiences into the show. He hoped that the show would be something that a lot of kids could relate to.

Gunter, who is working on The Brave War with Sechrist and Rojas, talked about how the film deals with a sense of abandonment. Sechrist described the film as going “against the grain.” Gunter also argued that with animation there is more of a range to make things “real,” with the film placing Black characters in “stressful situations.” He later noted that the show’s title comes from his name in German.

Conley, the creator of Robot Hunter: Rossum, said that none of the projects he had worked on for the last ten years truly represented him. He described how certain aspects of Saturday morning cartoons resonated with him, keeping him going, and giving him inspiration.

Stone, creator of Wonna the Wanderer, described how his characters exist as “emotional beings” in a world. Instead of being heroes or villains, they would be characters who exist. Wonna, the series protagonist, has to battle entities from an artificially created universe, all while she doesn’t realize she is in a simulated world.

Sechrist, Becker, Gunter, and Conley shared the names of actors or actresses they’d like to work with, if they could, and continued to pass around a mic literally attached to a butcher’s knife. It will be interesting to see all four of them (Becker, Gunter, Sechrist, and Conley) come together and talk about their projects every week.

Project City has the potential to expand the indie animation space beyond the scattered, often crowdfunded series on YouTube, some of which are in development and a few which are currently airing like Ollie & Scoops and Helluva Boss. Whether the platform is pioneering or not, it allows for more independence for creators in the series, movies, music, or shows they create. It is also really cool, with its fun and slick design. More significantly, it provides people with a platform to fund and create their own projects outside of using crowdfunding sites like GoFundMe, Kickstarter, and Patreon, meaning that it could be a game changer of sorts. [5] It is, as aspiring screenwriter Wade McGrath described it, “a kickstarter for animation…that also functions as a platform for people to hire other creatives.”

From the chatter on Twitter and responses on YouTube, it seems to be a place that creatives, allowing any possible intellectual property, including a Craig of the Creek storyboarder and it has the “potential to collaborate” with others, allowing “cool projects” to flourish. There are over 3,000 members on the Discord for the platform. Hopefully, Project City will be a boon for indie animation and push the animation industry in a direction that favors creators.

I don't play minecraft.

I don't watch minecraft videos.

And yet, it doesn't feel right to say nothing about the situation.

Why did my heart sink when I saw a friend's instagram story mourning him? Why did I feel nothing but remnants of nothingness when I watched the video announcing it? Why did tears finally flow onto my pillow when I was looking on my socials to see hundreds morning?

Because human life was lost. Because a great person was taken off of the face of the earth. Because FUCKING nothing could be done.

And the fact that I even had a minuscule, teeny, udderly insignificant association at all, just watching 1 fan made music video about him, planning to make an OC animatic to that song, makes it worse. Everyone mourns him for his honor, his humor, his optimism. And yet, I never had knowledge of him. I never saw a single video or experienced his persona in our overlapping timespans. And now I cannot ever experience what people loved of him without the taintedness of what happened.

The only experience I have with loss is Dorthey (a goldfish) when i was 7, Curry (another goldfish) at the age of 9, and Lucy (a beta fish) when I was 11. Nothing but my pet fish that lived for a few years each before being lost to time and buried in the backyard. I bawled my eyes out as a child. But now, it's just quiet. It's nothingness. I know one cannot compare the lives of pet fish to human life, but also one cannot compare a family resident and an online creator you never knew.

I have heard once that over 60 million people die per year, and... I shouldn't care. I haven't. Not to sound evil, but I never knew the people in the Wikipedia article of recently deceased. Not their names, not their faces, not an ounce of information. But now, death has taken someone who I can't just call another person of the 60 million who will leave this world. I know his name. I could have watched this person. I could have smiled along with his army of Voices. But everything is quiet now. Quiet.

Once again. I don't play minecraft. I don't watch minecraft content creators. The only thing remotely similar I watched was freaking "Wonder Quest" back in 2015.

And yet I am mourning a person who was taken from the face of earth too soon. I never knew him, and I may not ever know. However, I can acknowledge the effect on millions of people, and cry alongside them.

“Some kill”: one of the instances dream has taken a cannon life of Tommy’s; “Some steal” a time when dream has had the discs, or if you wanna get metaphorical doomsday would work too I think; “Some break your heart” either the beach party or even more impactful Tommy on his pillar; “And you thought that I would let it go that I would let you walk” and it’s one of those cinematic shots where the camera gets really close and only shows like half the face and it’s Wilbur saying the aforementioned line

“Broken hearts break bones so break up fast” Tommy falling from the pillar; “And I don’t wanna let it go”: looking at Tommy currently but a vague overlay of L’Manberg Tommy is there; “so in my grave I’ll rot”: cuts to black until rot and it shows him sitting on the bench hunched over with a cigarette in limbo

For the repeated “in my grave I’ll rot” it cuts back and forth between the present panicked moment and increasingly gruesome scenes of how Wilbur described limbo until it fades to black and on the final few strums and it’s them in the community house and Tommy is holding the discs and looking at Wilbur with a look that says “I’m so fucking sorry” and Wilbur’s expression responds “so am I”

A Life Series/Empires/Hermitcraft Crossover AU Plot Bunny

Gods that title is a mouthful. Anyways. This thing started *checks notes* around Oct of 2022. Rediscovering an animatic by @iamfluffle did not help my plot bunnies. So I'm just gonna info dump before I drown in paper notes and half finished drafts.

This post got longer than I intended. All details are hidden below the read more line. I have also tweaked some stuff for the life series event since the introduction of Secret Life.

On both sides the rift had closed after the end of the crossover. People checked in from time to time hoping it would open one day so another visit would be possible. Weeks goes by in silence...

Hermitcraft

One day Grian hears whispering from hermits's side of the rift. He didn’t like what the voices had to say.

Grian does what he can to keep people from discovering the rift being opened again. Destroys the cave entrance. Avoids his intended base in the floating rocks. Lies to his fellow hermits. Anything to keep people away. But the voices do not stop.

The voices grow in number and get louder to a point that Grian starts looking rough from lack of sleep. Everyone is concerned for him and not wanting to break so he continues keeping quiet about what's happening to him. So the source of the voices decides to play dirty.

The voices go quiet to Grian's relief and worry. The silence lasts long enough for him to believe its over. And when he lets his guard down the source strikes in the dead of night. A figure leaves the rift and wanders about the server whispering into the ears of some hermits.

Those hermits "wake" and unhindered by hostile mobs they head for the cave and enter the rift.

Empires

The peace of the empires comes to an end when the rift reopened. Everyone was happy and were ready to jump at the chance to revisit the hermits. But the fae were acting strange. Doing all they could to keep the rulers from the rift.

Choosing to heed the fae's warnings the rulers send messages or objects through the rift to see if everything is alright on the other side. For a long time they get no answers, mainly because Grian is avoiding rift and keeping people from it. One day they do start getting replies. Lies sent by the person.

Although still cautious because of the fae's agitation, a small group decide to go through the rift.

Reunion of Sorts

Everyone that went through the rift wake in a open field. While happy to see each other again there is confusion all around.

Having nothing on hand everyone breaks up into teams of two. Some teams go gathering for resources. Another group start up farms for food. Some build shelters.

The remaining teams go exploring. Looking for any landmarks that can tell them which server they're on. Except they don't find any of those. Instead the group eventually come across a world border.

They head back and relay this news to the others. And that is when a Watcher appears.

The Life Series Event

When someone is taken out of the game they return to their respective servers. Should they try going back through the rift they merely end up on Hermitcraft/Empires.

Those who haven’t gone through yet will end up on the Life server and are now considered active participants in the game.

For the sake of simplicity this event uses the Secret Life twist. Everyone has a max of thirty hearts that do not regenerate and must do secret tasks.

Grian

Yes he is getting his own section. This is mainly because of Martyn's one bit of watcher lore about Grian. The voice says: "He was never meant to be there. He was only ever meant to watch." So here's an optional detail to this crossover au.

Grian is unable to enter the rift. He only winds up on Empires when he tries going through. An outside force is keeping him from following the others. A punishment created by the Watcher doing this. A further cruel twist of the knife is that when Grian sleeps he can see what's happening to the others and can’t do anything to help those in the game.

Grian fills in everyone who hasn’t gone through the rifts. Filling them in on what’s happening in the mockery event of his smp creation.
