There's this kind of hybrid artstyle in comics lately that I wanna learn how to do (i just wanna stare at them coz its too pretty). Would it be an insult to call it hybrid? Hybrid in a way that its more anime-ish/cartoon-ish...but still very much in comic artstyle. It's very stylized too, and it's more softer and expressive on the face, and I love it.

I don't know if its a real thing, or I'm just seeing things in my fave artists in comics

#my art stuff #digital art #baldur's gate 3 #bg3 #astarion #astarion ancunin #this is part of a series I like to call “I’m never settling on a singular detailed artstyle”#I have no consistency in drawing realistic people/characters other than my shapy cartoon style #but I truly don’t get enough opportunity to properly shade anything with art in that style-!!! it always looks weird to me-!!!!!#I think some rude lil worm in my brain is wriggling around telling me it’s a futile attempt at still doing realism #cus I’m one of those “gifted” artists that grew up promising his parents he’ll end up among the big names or whatever #constantly training to become better at art but with realism oil paintings as the goal #you know how it is 😔#I wanna shade my lil funky designs but they never feel good enough to really put energy into or whatever so I compromise with stuff -#- like this where I try to draw characters more accurately while still stylizing them and shading them however I feel like it #which is great and all but I should really learn to give my more relaxed and less perfectionist art a chance #I deserve to enjoy the process and the result without working myself dead #it’s so much easier and rewarding to copy cartoon styles - stylizing realism makes me too anxious of doing it “wrong”#at least cartoon styles give me a goal to reach or a reference to strive towards #man I really should just cut myself some slack altogether #either way - this man is a flustered mess and he’s embarrassed about being called adorable in public or something #being teased in an affectionate way about his sweeter side and stuff #don’t ask why he’s shirtless - anatomy is just a lot more fun for me to draw sometimes #tasteful nudity and all that is extremely gorgeous to me #i need to practice anatomy more cus I just kinda did some shit and went with it this time with a BIT of consideration for muscle structure

I had a nightmare in which my face was covered in painful blisters. They looked like big zits but hole-y. One of them, on my forehead, had something sticking out of it. As I started pulling on the tip, I soon enough discovered that it was the leaf of a long vine that was nestled within my head. As I was pulling it out, I felt its roots snapping and sliding through my veins. I started coughing violently after I got rid of it. I called out to my bf for help as I started clawing at something itching in my throat. I pulled out a bunch of long twisty viney weeds from my mouth that were rooted in the pit of my stomach.

And then I woke up.

Suddenly Drakken's plant mutation doesn't seem so appealing to me anymore...

#sorry im reading another villainess manhwa. its pretty good - villainess's stationary store or whatever the full name is #like the kids are adorable the main character is hilarious and its a fun comic. the comedy in it in general is some of the best #ive seen in a long strip comic for a while especially with how they play with the format #the characters are all great. but i am. of course. specifically obsessed with isaac #main love interest who doesnt even show up meet up with the mc for the first third.... talk about a slow burn #but i love him he is a normal man with something slightly wrong with him. black coffee with a single blueberry shot type of guy #BUT also his design is pretty south asian coded which is a welcome surprise in general but like. you know me. sees one cartoon brown guy #south asian brother??? west asian friend? southest asian bestie??? north african pal?? maybe even carribean family?????#(in the tone of new shoes? are those puppies new?) brown king? brown king? is that a brown king?#SURPRISINGLY they did actually point out how like. much he stands out in the cast like once or twice #but you know ive already grabbed him and put way more layers on him than he actually has. like unconciously LOL #kids loving him vs societal views of him... his success as like the Biggest Wizard vs him as a very visible minority #only in my minds eye as i read. but thats okay. sometimes thats what happens when you read enough pulpy genre fiction as i do <3

there are 2 recent Darkwing comic series that I'm a huge fan of - I bought up everything in the 2010 BOOM! series, which isn't afraid to get dark and bittersweet with its stories, and features a (no longer canon lmao) crossover with ducktales!

this is from issue #1 of the Boom! series, picking up after the end of the cartoon where Drake has started a new life as a working stiff to keep Gosalyn safe, which means no superhero-ing and no Launchpad. They give him and LP big "divorced but still missing each other" energy and it's breathtaking to watch

#this series makes me SOB like you wouldn't believe #it runs with the silliness of the cartoon and really expands on the darker elements in a way I ADORE #negaduck is just as scary as he should be #not to mention bulba!!#darkwing duck #launchpad mcquack #boom comics

ik its been said many times but yeah the showcases as a concept are just so massively flawed by the judging system alone bc the audience decides which one is the best. like yeah of course the one thats more popular and has an established region-wide fanbase is going to win
