I know a lot has happened in today's leak and I don't want to be one of those people who focus only on their favorite character, but this issue was honestly so infuriating. This "angry arrogant brat who puts his father on a pedestal" portrayal of Damian is soooooo fucking outdated, has Zdarsky even picked any Damian's comic from the last 8 years?
Have you read the first issue of B&R 2023 last month? Damian was slamming his door on Bruce's face each time he tried making small talk with him, Robin 2021? Bruce was literally chasing Damian and begging for his forgiveness for an entire year? There's really no logical reason why Damian would be so fiercely protective of Bruce or passionately fight on his side, especially considering how Bruce is currently acting, but to have him be so aggressive and condescending toward the others is so regressive and degrading toward his character.
Like I know Tim is his favorite, we can tell by how he had Bruce listing all the things that make Tim better than the other Robins as well as having Tim literally descending in an angelic light to save Bruce just a couple of issues ago, but Damian's cameo and that cringey "All Damian does is fight Bruce while TIM is the only one who tries saving him<3" line were so unnecessary and probably happened so that Tim's writers can once again make Tim look good by putting other characters down, again.
But hey, they had Tim hugging Damian at the end so lets all aww at their "brotherism" and ignore everything else.

Yeah, but he had those genes from the very beginning but that didn't stopped artists to draw him as a stabby 3-feet demonspawn!?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He can be handsome now, but why go for a softer look? Why not make him sturdier and harsher? He did go through a lot trauma-inducing arcs (i have a hunch its for some love romantic purposes again...which makes sense since he is trapped in another school setting...they always make him pretty looking in issues where he gets linked with a girl for some reason????)
Tumblr media
Like why not just drop his hair on the middle part of his bangs for civies, and retain the undercut, like here?
Tho, I am starting the appreciate the little bat-wing-like swoop for his bangs...so it is kinda endearing, in its own way, but he still looks like an edgier version of a younger Tim Drake, without much distinction from Damian's old character design
(I guess, I am still not used with the one-face syndrome of DC characters...I probably need another decade to stop getting annoyed by it...ugh)
Tumblr media
Gosh darn it...i was so irritated i forgot the whitewashing part...like yup...Dami is the good guy here. Like his skin tone is basically the litmus test of whether Dami would be a bad guy or good guy in his own series. Lol.
This reminds me to read the new issue for Batman and Robin...and im like...they made my BABY PRETTY...i hate it...ugh

My favorite characterization of Tim is the paranoid master manipulator with a mind that impressed even Ras al Ghul, but has a stubborn streak to believe that he is a normal teen, and all his convulated bullshits and leaps of logic are just common sense.
I like Damian coz he is such a menace and have a penchant for besting and ending his enemies, coz that was how he is trained and indoctrinated by the League of Shadows (thankfully he already applies Batman's no-kill rule).
But Tim is different. His Red Robin run shows how he doesn't just defeat his enemies...he is capable of destroying them. It's not even the same as how Red Hood would crush his enemies. Red Robin would personalize (to perfection) the method of their downfall (given enough info and preparation on his part).
He can basically uno-reverse any rogue gallery if he put his mind to deal with them. But I know that that kind of Tim is hard to write coz the gimmick can get old, and his possible outcome was to end up with a god-complex. That's why him being humble, insecure and dismissing all his decisions as common sense while everyone around him is bamboozled by the sheer impossibility of his thought process would always be fun.

HC: Batboys and rubik's cube
How the Batboys play rubik's cubes.
Damian would first look up the fastest record on 'fixing' the rubik's cubes and beat it at the first try, that is after forming stimulations on his mind on how to beat it. He'll try again after looking up Batman's record, not finding it, and reluctantly, settling for the fastest record for Supers (he is still working it out).
Dick would first question if there was a trick or trap on the rubik's cubes. Once cleared, he'll complete the rubik's cube, while chatting and demonstrating, during the challenge, how he made pictographs with a rubik's cube. Still finishes marginally close to the average world record.
Tim would take one look at the rubik's cube and demand for a new one. The old one have a small trick pepper bomb on one of it's pieces (courtesy of Damian). He would calm the person who offered him to play by saying how Dick have already disengaged it beforehand. But would still ask for a new one, just in case...he is paranoid that way. He also beat's Dami's record (he loves puzzles, and rubik's cube is one of his fave fidget toys)
Jason would interrogate the person, even if he saw how it came off fresh from the package. And just as he sat down to play it, he would stop midway and still tear the rubik's cube into pieces in a heartbeat. The 'new' cube has been compromised with a few of its parts exchanged with color changing pieces when applied with the exact body temperature of Jason (which is below normal) making it an impossible puzzle (courtesy of Tim...no one knows how he did it, but it is Tim).  Jason would disassemble, assemble, and finishes the puzzle on record-time.

So what do DC fans do when they are six-feet down frustrated with DC's decisions..they make fix-it headcanons and fanarts! (Only Wayne Family Adventures can save us, apparently...huhuhu, I was so hopeful for DC Dawn but it has to happen)
Sooooo, here's a suggestion, one major problem of DC is the Robin Mantle.
We have Tim Drake, who with the ambiguous ending of his Robin run '(2022) Tim Drake: Robin', he said he doesn't want to be Batman, nor Robin?? So is this a call out of his possible new path? But come on, he is still very active in Batman donning his Robin Suit, so maybe it's just the usual 'finding your own path' narrative of a Robin while still doing the status quo.
Aand Damian Wayne has just finished his Lazarus Tournament Arc phase on the '(2021) Robin' series, and has made up with Batman (in Lazarus Planet Event), and has rightfullly refused the offer of both his mother and father to follow their footsteps.
So now having known what we know...it is simple. DC should just hammered in the difference of the two, coz they are very very different strengths and flaws NOW. (It has always been, but their skillsets were practically interchangeable, with Tim having the edge of experience, wholistically-trained with a cool head but is insecure, and Dami having talent for the job but is overconfident and has a temper and trust issues).
But now, Dami has been hinted heavily to have 'magic' in his blood. This should be a big deal.
I mean, what is stopping DC in making Damian the Robin who focuses on the magical and voodoo cases of Gotham?
It would not only let the two Robins continue to operate with Batman, it would make them have separate jurisdiction on Batman's case files, with Tim helping Batman on his usual detective work, and Damian learning more of his powers, building immunity (coz how many times has been that he was used by demons, devils, and dark forces of the multiverses, like srsl? Batman, this is a literal threat to everyone and this is not even a discussion in your training book?). Also different specialization makes it easier for the two to find and ground themselves again. Like, it has been high-time to have one resident-batfam who focuses mainly on THAT, aside from Azrael. And with Azrael being the Angel of Death, and Dami being the grandson of the Demon Head, the tandem and potential is there?? Hopefully, it is still Michael Lane, coz having an underground trained-to-be-Batman's-replacement who eventually got insance and became Bat-Devil only to convert into a lliteral incarnation of an Angel....the parallel>>>to DAMI? So good. The resurrection and salvation bit for the two would be so nice to put in comics.
Hecck, Dami training under Constantine and Zatanna woould be sick.
And it doesn't have to make Damian more OP with magic on his arsenal. It could simply just his magical powers are limited to immunity from the dark arts (coz he trained the fuck out of it, *intro, training montage). So he is still a badass mini-Batman but just highly trained against the supernatural. (IF this happened, please don't let this be his whole personality coz it'll boxed Dami in a one-trick pony, that's why it should be just immunity/dispell skills...or a one-off channeling of his superpowers when he resurrected before...the possibilities are nice to play with. Just give him a flaw...like he can study on academic levels the magics but he cannot sense them the way a magically-gifted person could).
And this is only until Tim Drake finds his own superhero-persona. Coz 'til now, there's no organic way for Tim to move forward to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So we have the colorful Robin, and the monochromed Robin. I say, let's return Red Robin to Tim, and make Damian the White Robin...
...or Dark Robin, or Bat Robin...but they all sound like the DC Metalverse Robin Versions, so I still lean in to 'White Robin' coz they are rare and is good call-out when he got resurrected and was in all white clothes.
Tumblr media
Also when Damian first appeared, he was in a black and white overall which could easilly be interpreted how he is blanced on the weighing scale on good and bad. Now, he is good, just that, he does not let his father, or anyone at that matter, dictate the colors he would wear...he is still figuring it out, after all.

I know I would love to have a pretty Damian, coz let's be honest, he has Talia as his mother...but seriously DC? Who is this ?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love Simone de Meo but the one-face syndrome for Robins is strong in this one (He looks like Tim stole Dami's Robin suit). Also, the iconic spiky edgy pre-teen Dami (with hair as sharp as his blade and bite) is such a mood even if he has some ugly panels, he still has a child's clean cut! (goin off-tangnt here, but stahp aging him at the speed of sound, while leaving all the batfam in perpetual agelessness limbo, but that's a different rant).
Thakfully, the other cover arts seems to retain his hair, so it's good.
Still, since Dami is now 14 years old (in canon), having a longer hair cut makes sense, BUT not the trademarked cut of Tim's Robin, please, aaaaahjj. I can barely recognize the two when they are in the same panels, with DC's indecisiveness executive decisions for the Robin's mantle (with having two active Robins at the same time) and 2023 comics decided to upped the difficulty level, still?!
