What, if any, is your biggest source of fear or anxiety when it comes to writing or otherwise portraying romantic or sexual scenarios?

I'm worried about not being a very good writer, especially when it comes to matters of sex and romance. If you want a quick comic poem full of nob jokes then I'm your man, but trying to come up with prose that communicates a sense of romance, let alone sexual chemistry, is very probably beyond me. I suppose I'm worried about sounding clichéd, clumsy or just flat out ridiculous.

I'm also probably shy about trying to write about same-sex romance or... well same-sex sex. Probably due to many years of internalised homophobia and a lack of examples to draw inspiration from (although that has been helped by being on here, as there are quite a lot of very talented creators covering such things - @scholarlostintime, @astrology-bf and @houserosaire for example). So it's not that I doubt it can be done well, it's just I'm not at all sure I could do it well...

And also, if I am going to try to do anything with a "ship" with a canon character, particularly a popular one, then I am very unsure that I could get their voice and character accurate enough. I don't know whether it feels disrespectful to be writing for a canon character maybe? It doesn't feel that way when other people do it. But I'm worried my attempt would be more crude caricature than faithful rendition.

Also if it's a character that lots of people ship their OC with then I will probably unfavourably compare my attempts with their far better work. And it might look like I'm poaching other people's ideas.

And, as @primamchorus has so eloquently said, it's quite tricky to talk about bodyparts without sounding prudish, childish or overly biological. I'm not even sure I could talk about them in general conversation, let alone in writing.

So there's a few barriers... Maybe I should stick to silly poetry?

#im posting this very late because i was sort of weary of how it came out and ended up messing w it until it was like 4am oops.#and i have plans tmrw so... oh well! i did my best and ill put it out while i can!#and i tried to make the scene match barnard's colors lol #finn's ocs #finn's art #i know i said id do more sillay stuff with the simpler screentone only style but i had a couple more of these in me #and this is the first piece im making thats like an actual part of the story too rather than just setting stuff for fun #i wanna write something to go with it too but for now ill just sort of briefly explain the context in the tags here:#barnard has a pretty bad case of OCD and his compulsions have made it difficult to make friends in the past #he was never outright bullied or anything but people just didnt really have the patience to deal with it #he has compulsions that include stuff like walking through doors until it feels right and needing things to be perfectly aligned #which in group settings has lead to people having to wait for him to finish his rituals and join them #they might find it tolerable at first but eventually they grow impatient and hes just... not invited to stuff anymore #but juno is a newer member of the guild who ends up frequenting the same library. hes also kinda a little weird #and they dont become fast friends or anything but just sort of naturally spend time in the same place #though they never plan meetups they eventually fall into a routine. around the same time theyd just both be at the library #and read next to each other. and maybe talk a bit. and eventually they end up walking back to the guildhall together #since theyre going to the same place after all. and juno always waits for barnard outside the door #eventually barnard asks if this bothers him. juno kinda just tells him 'of course it does' without any malice or anything. just a statement #barnard is surprised and apologizes and juno says not to. but the next day juno doesnt show up at the usual time.#barnard assumes hes committed somekinda more by bringing it up. he ends up staying there late reading to get his mind off it & not ruminate #but when he leaves juno is in fact still waiting for him down the hall (see pic) having collected a bunch of books literally abt ocd #he fell asleep bc barnard stayed later than expected. and hes an eepy guy generally. and also one very bad at expressing himself #but now barnard gets that juno's 'of course it [bothers me]' had the implication of 'but its worth it' which no friend has previously done.#and from the interaction juno was also able to understand that this isn't something barnard just does for the hell of it so. he studies.#and checks a bunch of stuff out because he thinks it could help his friend too (theres ocd workbooks and such- i remember working w them)#and thats the point where they became more ''friends'' than ''pleasant library acquaintances''#from there on they also do get into juno's problems. whole other bag of worms. but this specific scene is more about bernard from his pov #sorry about when i said briefly explain. i lied </3 #but compared to the whole sequence im picturing its brief so shhh

i love that my poto brainrot is so severe that i gave one of my ocs a whole new design inspired by the phantom,,, except its light & sun themed instead of Dark and Emo like our favourite sewer skrunkle,,,

#my wips #I rly should just be writing fics at this point AHDVSH it’d be easier as far as these conversation heavy scenes go in my head #but also: what if I made my hand hurt by drawing everything individually #laanka again is kinda my universal therapist OC. in whatever universe I put her in she acts as a therapeutic outlet.#in general she’s pretty brain-focused in her studies. she’s usually some kinda neurologist on top of doing psychotherapy.#in ASO her job is primarily psychotherapy but she researches cerebroslugs in her available time. usually oversees individual research teams #she also doesn’t think of them as parasites and is more sympathetic to their existence. a lot of her clients are host&slug who want to-#-explore coexisting together.#which in my head is kinda how Norman and Skip get in contact with her. Norman reads about her and is like ‘oh I’ll shoot her an email’-#-and Skip decides No He Wants To Send The Email so skip just sends laanka an email that just says ‘therapy’. no grammar no punctuation-#-no context. and Norman nearly dies on the spot of embarrassment. Laanka gets back to them within the hour and she’s seen cerebroslug-#-emails before. she knows that’s probably what she’s dealing with. sends back an email like ‘hi anonymous :) yes I do offer therapy.#would you like me to send you some available times I have coming up? would love to know your name as well! - Dr. Laanka Noelle’#Norman decides that he’s gonna send the emails from now on Thank You Skip. #rat rambles #oc posting #in particular Im thinking abt my girl ding shes my best friend #I actually have been thinking abt giving her a funky design if I do eventually draw her but I am facing one key issue #she has like. no ego gifts.#which is sad! I wanna play around with ego gifts more! most of my main guys have boring gifts!#I could just pick her out some but that feels like cheating I wanna work with what I get y'know?#but I dont have her working on anything so she'll probably never get any naturally #so alternatively I could do some like. number generator scenanigans to chose like 3 random gifts to give her #that way I dont get to chose and am forced to work with what I get #which Ill probably do but Ill have to blacklist a few gifts (mainly the eye covering ones since thats an important part of her design)#I might also do this with some of my other gift lacking guys that might help rhem gain some favor with me #Im quite attached to most of my older nuggets but theres only like 3 or 4 of my newer ones Ive been able to click with #and by newer I mean from like the middle of my second runthrough (Im currently on first day reset number 4)#so thats not a good sign for any of them #well tbf a decent chunk of the newest ones are from the last run through so those guys genuinely are quite new #anyways maybe giving them somw gifts will give me more inspiration to actually think of stuff for them #the siblings are the only ones that I have any attachment to right now of the last two batches and ema is lucky to be one I like #and my girl ding earned her position in this corporation so Im obligated to adore her #for context she was one of various nuggets I made to sacrifice to grind out tool abnormality info #but she somehow managed to survive one that I fully expected her to die to so she gets to stay #one of the other ones also got to stay but thats just because I had enough info for we can change anything already #and by stay I mean sit in storage for the rest of time because I think it's funny #he was my guy for whatever the hell the weapon upgrading one is called #for the non leathal ones I just had most of them finish the research and then go to we can cange everything #but he lucked out and got to live #the others didnt tho so rip to them #at least my tool grind is officially complete and I dont have to worry abt it anymore #I also am in general really close to being done with my abno info hunt #I even defeated apocalypse bird a lil while ago so I basically only have white knight to worry abt now

Dennis the "spoiled brat" in denial twin, I swear my hair is blond it's just the undertones making it pink. Dennis, I crave the attention of mentally ill men in loose jedi robes. Dennis, I can't be left unattended because I'm a hazard to myself.

Jack as in Jack of all trades the handier twin, the real blond here with anger issues to boot. Jack of all trades who sucks at walking, wet floor sign blindness incarnate. Bro has fucked up hair genetics too, half straight, half curly, who messed up the allele pairs???

Finally we have Mag like badge with an M which is short for magician. He can make things disappear and reappear like magic. We uh... We don't know How he does it. MAG THE BIOLOGICAL ENIGMA EVERYONE!

the problem with wanting to try and keep spoilers hidden for a lot of my fave OCs that i intend to publish stories for, is that in situations like artfight i want ppl to draw certain OCs together but i also can't infodump everything about said OCs that makes me insane and so ppl don't realize how much seeing art of those OCs would knock me on my ass

#this is particularly about nisha/artemis rn #god i could write fucking ESSAYS on the two of them and how entwined their fates are #in fact ive done so a few times in my original story disocord server <3 #but that isnt enough and i crave art of those 2 together in any capacity #top ten OC ships of all time and also just OCs in general #but also bc im trying not to outright spoil that entire story.....their TH profiles barely mention one another #how am i supposed to impress upon strangers just how crazy stupid nisha/artie makes me #when i cannot explain in detail the reasons why #except to my friends in the OGstory server. they get to hear me lose my mind over the same 2 idiots every few nights #ive actually been quiet about those 2 lately. i should hop in there and ramble about them later tonight #theyve been in my head and i didnt want to be annoying but also. that is literally the server created to let me #be as annoying and self-indulgent as possible while my friends just nod along
