Please don't steal my gifs. I truly am glad that people like them but I don't want them stolen.

Reblog them, by all means, but please don't download them to your device and then upload them yourself to Tumblr or another site. If you want to download them to your device to keep for yourself to look at, that's cool too. I do that myself. My sister(@papa-evershed) and I send gifs of our menses back and forth all day every day, but I don't UPLOAD other creator's gifs to any sites without a credit. Or if i forgot whose gif it was, I simply say "not my gif. If yours let me know and I will credit." If you upload it as a reaction on a post, I'm okay with that. I know lots of people use gifs for reactions so that's understandable.

I am on Twitter and Instagram and Pinterest and I have found my gifs on all of those sites. I've even found them changed to video on Instagram. If you upload one on Twitter just put a credit. Same with Insta. I'd prefer you didn't upload them there at all but if you insist, a credit is all it takes. And I really, really, really would prefer it if people wouldn't upload them to Pinterest because so many people go there to download pics and gifs and they end up getting spread everywhere else without crediting the creator. Now if you share a LINK to one of my posts containing gifs, that's fine. That's not the same as uploading them as your own.

I never ask that anyone credit me for pictures of Aidan I find online. Those pics don't belong to me, all I did was find them. If you credit anyone on that, credit the photographer or if it's a fan pic then the owner of the pictures, not me. Credit whomever I credited for it. You don't even have to credit me for screen caps I take of Aidans work unless I did a hella good edit on it. Because screen caps take all of one second to take, it's really not hard. But the gifs take more time to make. And the HQ versions of the films I sometimes have to jump through hoops get my hands on, or my sister will jump through hoops to get it for me. On some of the interview gifsets I've spend hours searching for an old interview. Then when it comes to making the actual gifs I spend quite a lot of time on that as well. Playing with the coloring over and over again, saving four different versions of the same set until I'm semi-satisfied with it.

I just ask this of my gifs. Yeah, some of my gifs are lower quality. Those are the ones I want to spit out real quick so I make them on my S20. But I still took the time to do it. It stil required effort on my part. The more HQ ones are done in Photoshop and take significantly more time and effort. Not to mention, a Photoshop subscription costs money. So when you steal my Photoshop gifs, you're stealing something I have to pay for to even be able to create. And even when it comes to the lower quality ones I make with my phone, well, one of the reasons I bought this phone is because it has the feature on it to make gifs and this isn't a cheap phone. Trust me.

I don't want to be a bitch. I'm not a Fandom gatekeeper of content, I can't stand fans that do that. But this is different. When I spend time making a gifset and then see other people posting it and accepting compliments on MY gif (like, "oh beautiful gif" and they're like, "I know, thanks"), it makes me wonder why I bother. It's the only thing I seek credit for aside from my fic and fan videos.

I don't need to be the best Aidan account. It doesn't stroke my ego to be the first to get the news out. I don't do this to be the best blog, or to get the most followers, or to be the "biggest fan".

I ONLY do it for the love of Aidan Gillen. And to share as much as I can with other fans and try to keep their interest in him even when news and new content is dry. But credit should be given where credit is due. My fic, my videos, and my gifs.

I understand that some people doing this may not realize what they are doing wrong. I have especially noticed with fans that migrate here from Facebook. They aren't as internet savvy as the rest of us. But some of the people I've seen doing it should know better.

Sorry this was so long but I wanted to thoroughly explain. Though I shouldn’t have to explain at all as to why I want credit for MY work. If you made it to this part, thank you for reading. And I almost let it go but this shit takes time. I've thought about tagging my gifs too but it's so ugly, so I'd rather not, but I'm still considering it.

Hello! I’m going to show everyone how to make gifs using Photoscape, which is a easier-to-use and more cost effective photo editing app than Photoshop!

Please like/reblog if you find this useful because this my first tutorial and it literally took me hours to make lmao <3 The colouring I’ll be showing you is the same one used in this gifset.

The rest is under the cut!

You can download Photoscape here or from the App Store if you have a Mac like me. It’s basically free unless you want to get the pro version, which you literally don’t need. The only catch is that the free version doesn’t have curves :( but just use photoshop for that. Okay, so getting to it ...

Step #1: Getting the frames

I won’t go into detail about this step because there are literally a million tutorials on Tumblr about this. Check completeresources or something lol. 

Whatever video you're using, try getting it in 1080p or at least 720p so that your gifs are nice and sharp. I’m gonna be using this scene from Ocean Waves (It’s not edited except for some resizing):

Step #2: Batch Editing

The easiest way to edit your gif is to pull all the frames you want into the batch editor. This is where you can do resizing, cropping, colouring, adding text, etc. This is what your screen should look like when you load it up:

All your editing tools are on the bar on the right.

Step #3: Cropping & Resizing

Tumblr dimensions are 540 px for single gifs (example) and 268 px for gifsets where the images are side by side (example). This is rly important for clear gifs so remember it!!

Because our gif is a single one, we’re gonna make the width 540 and the height 300 (the height rly doesn't matter as much). I’m not cropping anything this time.

Step #4: Colouring

Everyone knows this is the best part! Go crazy, go stupid! Have fun!

Everything you need is under colour. I usually just play around here until I find something I like. For this colouring, it looks like this:

Usually the most important things to edit here are the saturation and contrast, because they really make your colours pop! I also like making gifs with lighter colours and one way to do that is to ‘lighten shadows’ and increase the ‘brighten’ option. 

This is what our colouring looks like now: 

You can see the colours are brighter now! It’s not bad, but we're gonna edit it some more. The second half of the colouring tools look like this:

The exposure, gamma correction and brightness are your friends! They're super important for the brightness of your gif so utilise them! 

The hue and the colour scales are how you edit the actual colours in your gifset! With these settings, our gif now looks like this: 

Playing with the hue and colour scales can make your gif look like:

Okay, these are bad examples that I’d never publish, but you get the point lol. Bear with me, we’re almost done.

Step #5: Filter 

The MOST IMPORTANT tool here is sharpen. Literally can’t emphasise enough how much you should sharpen your gifs!! Try not to overdo it though because your gifs can turn out grainy. I usually set sharpen at a 3 and never more than 5.

Bloom is also a nice tool which softens your gifs and gives them a dreamy (?) effect. 

With the bloom and sharpen on, our gif now looks like this!

Step #6: Making the gif!

This part is pretty self-explanatory. Save and drag your edited images to the part of the app called Create GIF. Photoscape usually saves your flies into a subfolder called output. 

Your screen should look like this:

Keep your gif speed between 0.07 and 0.10 depending on what looks right.  Also, remember to double check the dimensions of your gif before saving!

The very last thing to remember is that Tumblr only allows gifs up to 10mb, so while saving, make sure not to exceed that size or it won’t load.

And now you have your gif!

I make gifs. I use a laptop, photoshop, VLC/KMP. And it takes me 5-10 minutes per gif. Colored, sharpened, edited, all of that. It truly is not that hard to make a gif set. An entire set hardly ever takes me over a half hour because once I have the process set for the first one, it's just copying that over. Gif makers like to have everyone think it's a long process like writing or art. It's not. Is having then "stolen" annoying? Sure. Is it worth turning into a whiny little b*tch over? Nah.

wow good for you!!! it takes 5-10 minutes for you to make a fucking gifset! congratulations! not everyone employs the same coloring process as you do. i pay for photoshop, and making gifs takes time and effort for me (hours and days to make more creative sets) and other people on this site. check out the long rainbow posts i make, the ones where i blend gifs, the ones where i have to download movies from entire franchises and make miscellaneous sets that take up time, energy and my laptop storage. you’re deluded if you think that takes 5-10 minutes. you’re deluded if you think i (and other content creators) have no reason to be mad about this.

i pretty much do the same thing, but i’ll just list a few things i do differently/would like to mention! 

1. i sharpen in photoshop and clean/denoise using topaz (u would need to torrent this and can probably google a tutorial for it from tumblr). it’s honestly just a personal preference thing to not use vapoursynth. i tried it before here but it didn’t really suit me! i also try not to use topaz clean as often as possible because (a) it takes double the time and (b) i realized this also doesn’t suit me! however when a video clip is not hd or i need to zoom in a lot, i use topaz clean to try making up for the pixelation. i also avoid using clean at all costs when it’s not a closeup because it makes faces look weird if they are too small imo. you’ll have to play around with the settings to see what you think looks best. the only ‘right’ way to do it is whatever you like the most c: –> applies to everything here!

2. color and adjustment layers are really what makes ur style and they make gifs stand out.  personally i first white balance using levels or curves. then i adjust saturation/vibrance and use selective color and hue/saturation to adjust the levels of each color. careful with the saturation because high saturation can end up highlighting the dither of the gif. at the end, before sharpening and what not, i add solid color layers and play around with them depending on the color scheme im going for. i like using hue/soft light/overlay/multiply/difference or a combination of those and play around with opacity. if u dont know what something does, google and watch some videos on it. don’t use tools without knowing what they are for because you might change other things unknowingly that may affect your gif later. you can also use other people’s psds if you want, but i personally think each gif needs a diff coloring. i’ve only downloaded psds in the past if i really wanted to figure out how someone got a certain vibe off 

3. before the color adjustment, i delete unwanted layers, convert to video timeline, and turn all frames into one smart object. after adding adjustments, i apply the sharpen/topaz filters to the smart layer. dont play the gif after u put topaz on… ur computer will glitch out LOL. convert frames > flatten frames into clips to get ur post filter frames. then delete non-visible layers and convert back into frame animation timeline. (i hope i got the names of these right lmao i set shortcuts for everything so i dont click any menu for anything LOL)

if i need to blur out words - after filtering i would convert it into a smart layer again. then use marquee tool to choose the area with the words/logos and 1.3 gaussian blur it (i prefer 1.3 because it’s just enough for me to not notice it but not so much that the blur stands out… once again personal preference!)

4. my export settings

i use different sorting depending on what i need to know e.g. if the gif is too big i can sort by popularity or hue and try to take out colors that don’t affect the gif that much. (for some reason my gifs need to be below 2.85MB to upload on tumblr lol)

5. just keep making gifs and have fun! it’s honestly hard at first, takes a lot of time, and can be a pain in the ass. here’s my first gifset on this acc lol https://joyuls.tumblr.com/post/181169072903/la-vie-en-rose-eunbi-mama-in-hong-kong-2018. definitely not my greatest work, but i guess it reminds me that i worked hard haha. but as long as you enjoy the process instead of the results, it’ll be worth it, and your gifs will start looking a lot better before you know it. hope to see your content around soon, and feel free to ask more questions if you have!!

I can think someone’s lyric edit or gifset is interesting/pretty, but not reblog it because it doesn’t fit my blog’s aesthetic. Also, Taylor blogs appear to be less active on Tumblr lately. I can understand creators wanting feedback and exposure, but a lot of creators act like Taylor blogs have to reblog edits. It isn’t like creators are *writing* new content.

i haven’t told someone step by step why they’re wrong in a while so i’m gonna do that but i want to preface with just even for sending me this ask i’m officially relieving you of any apparent obligation to go near my edits. you see one? don’t touch it. it’s not for you.

 a) if you press like on my edit please reblog it as well because it’ll help me get more exposure if it ends up on more people’s dashes and i’ll feel empowered to make more similar content

 b) i’ve noticed a genuine drop in notes on my edits in the last year/six months/few months and i find that upsetting because i’m worried people don’t like my content anymore

 c) i feel under appreciated considering the amount of work and effort i put in and the pressure i feel to create having gained a lot of my followers through editing

true and maybe that’s why it’s become something that myself and several other taylor blogs have been vocal about however this is a widespread issue that editors in multiple fandoms have called out, it’s not just our fandom, editing as a whole on tumblr is dying and it’s a problem because it’s also the backbone of tumblr fandom specifically, and this is a worrying concept

now i’m gonna admit that this is the sentence that brought me from giving you a casual but pointed reply to writing out this six point monstrosity of rage and irritation but here’s the thing: where do you get this high horse concept that writing is more important than editing? like, i do both so don’t get me wrong I absolutely know how hard both of them are, but like ?? we’re not writing new content??? no we’re not?? we’re creating visual content how can that be compared in the first place?? the effort involved takes as much creative power as any piece of writing, and frankly, in tumblr terms like writing is generally making a text post?? i’m sorry but all my text posts have been fleeting thoughts while i’m doing the dishes that took me two seconds to write down compared to the hours i will spend on an edit choosing the perfect images, fixing animation, placing text, getting the colours perfect all so people like you can enjoy them and frankly i don’t think it’s too much to ask that they get some love. 

this isn’t a job, don’t get me wrong, i take editing as seriously as i take all my hobbies, and i don’t expect all my edits to have 1k notes (well, actually i used to because six months ago they were all getting 1k notes but y’know, i’ll lower my standards with the times) but editors do make things for free and they do give up their time and yeah it’s fun for us to make them in the first place, but posting them and seeing people enjoy them is rewarding too, and hitting that reblog button isn’t gonna do a damn thing to hurt anyone but will make someone who has been staring at photoshop for three hours who is refreshing their tumblr every five minutes to see the new notes and tags very happy.

general tips / things i like to do 

gradients

i find you get the best result with a gradient when you put it at the top over every layer, otherwise the gradients becomes more solid and doesn’t fade as well

i use soft light and overlay for my gradients depending on the intensity i want

i also mainly use the black and white colour option instead of white/black to transparent fade or another colour combination

i usually scale my gradient to %200

editing

how i make my wallpapers

sharpening your image does make a notable difference

when resizing an image with free transform  hold down the shift button when you do it so that the image stays the same scale 

you can use the lasso tool and select an area of an image to edit that part only (making eyes brighter for example)

tools

quick tool is quick but be mindful that it can be tricky and not produce a clean outline of your image

sizes

for gifsets i usually make them 135 by 245 pixels

for wallpapers i make them with a 640 by 1136 pixels

you can keep the ratio of that while having a small size though if your selected image is way too small for what you want 

finding images

is your best option for finding large images. change the search filter to large images for best results 

for pngs like flowers to use in edits i like to look up ‘flower illustrations’ etc. and for more ease change the search filter colour option to ‘transparent’ 

photoshop

if you are looking to download photoshop i recommend the later versions especially for gif making (ps cc allows video imports to gifs which is easier and a bit smoother for gifs than layering screencaps, i also say this as someone who has used both)

like everything eventually you will get the hang of ps and will not feel as much like your’e stranded out in the middle of tumblr’s ocean of edits and gifs

while there are downloads of ps available it took me a while to track one down successfully. for a long time i used this website its good for a mostly free website (some pictures and layouts provided cost a dollar but you don’t have to use those) and i recommend it if you don’t have access to photoshop

and tbh i don’t have any specific tips when it comes to coloring, i’m always looking for tutorials (besides i’m so bad at explaining) here are the tutorials i’m always checking :)in the case of this coloring i use a channel mixer layer. The problem with the channel mixer layer is that you will need to know how to use it, it’s complicaded and if its your first time using it you may need to take a deep breath and have a LOT of time. Learning how to use the channel mixer layer cost me a lot of time, practice and patience. (story time, when i was on middle school my teacher was literally a bitch and i hated her so much, when i went to her clase i didn’t listening to her and now i regret it so much bc she was too good explaining how to use photoshop and i was so dumb :( omg why was i like that) anyway, here are some links that explain how to use the channel mixer layer x, x, x, x, x, x, x.

it’s bc they’re intp x intj they don’t rly... Understand each other with minimal effort/real communication lmao it’s very efficient. both quiet lil darlings who aren’t emotionally That Open but enjoy their own little space together sometimes?? their dynamic is like... they’re weird in different ways but they’re v chill together. u can tell hyungwon is super fond of changkyun like he has this Expression when ck does anything at all.... i think these two rly love each other’s personalities bc they’re both kind/gentle/peaceful types and their overall ?? vibe is just highly compatible... they’re absolute darlings... v soft together... i can’t think of a favourite moment but i rly rly love their birthday messages for each other last year like changkyun’s message for hyungwon was like “ur rly cool bruh ur rly such a great person” and hyungwon’s message for changkyun was rly... just him obviously doting on him n finding him cute jksfdhg i lov them a lot :(

The whole thing about Knetz and wonho's "scandalous" past reminded me of something. As a PSA to those people who are so insistent and pushy that idols aren't allowed to have sex/date/be anything but straight: Fuck all of you. You do not own these people, and if you really cared about them you'd be happy if they were happy. Like tbh, if anyone that famous and busy could also balance out a relationship at the same time, I'd be so happy for them. It really bugs me how all idols are supposed (1/2)(2/2) have this squeaky clean innocent image where they have to look and act a certain way and have these stupid fucking dating bans because once they don't meet up to that image their success suffers. Idols already give up so much privacy, and the last thing they need is millions of people scrutinizing every little thing they do.
