What I am thinking: Why are Jekyll and Hyde frequently played by one actor? And why when this happens are they depicted as almost two separate people? The original intent was to not make a person with two different personalities but to make one person have two personas. Jekyll always was evil and had all of these unspecified evil urges, but they were just suppressed until Hyde came out. Plus they are described as looking completely different, even their voices sound different, in the novella. It’s not a separation of good and evil, it’s the façade Jekyll puts on to make him more comfortable with doing the evil stuff without ruining his reputation and career.
