Twilight, but it's a reexamination of the way elves age in most fantasy universes.
"I know what you are. You're skin is pale and you're unbelievably fast."
"Not that fast. Marginally faster than most people. On average."
"Sometimes you speak like you're from another time, I've never seen your ears... and I've only ever seen you eat root vegetables."
"Just say it"
"no, you have to do the line..."
"*fine* Say it, out loud."
"You're an elf."
"Cool. Now can you please just not tell anyone about this?"
---
"How old are you?"
"I dunno, like... 460."
"But you don't look older than 17."
"I spent about 50 years looking like I was 10."
"And how long have you looked like you were 17?"
"uh--probably 200 years? I don't know. We don't age in reverse dog years, there isn't math for this."
"Ugh, Sindreth, you're so stupid."

I have never felt that many media have managed to accurately portray how a civil society looks with vast swathes of the population with expected lifespans four to ten times that of the rest.

Not sure how widely recognized this is but it’s fucking wild to me that miss kui just quietly snuck in the fact that most (if not all) of the differences between races only exist because of wishes they made to the Winged Lion.
Dwarves being strong? Lion wish. Elves being good at magic? Lion wish. All lifespan differences???? Lion wish, babey!
Not that the elves superiority shtick isn’t already BS, but it’s even funnier with the context that the only difference between them and humans is that, thousands of years ago, their leaders made a greedier wish to the demon that wanted to eat them.

In Sophomore Year, Adaine's nightmare vision of herself is in mourning garments, speaking to her underlying fear that, as an elf, she'll outlive everyone she cares about and have to face forever alone.
In the finale of Junior Year, Aelwyn says that she hopes that she and Adaine can eat ice cream and do magic together forever and Adaine with no trace of insincerity agrees. She still has to face forever, but not alone. Not anymore.

tolkien's tendency to leave women off of family trees is annoying to me not just because it's an overall trend in fantasy novels that i wish wasn't a thing (to quote arya stark, the woman is important too!) but also because i desperately need to know who celebrimbor's mom was and which elf lady made the bold yet fantastically bad decision to marry into the house of feanor.
