HI IN LIGHT OF CHAPTER 1114 OF ONE PIECE I AM COMBINING SOME THEORIES A BIT
It might be safe to say that I can axe my theory (here) that the world is sinking due to natural phenomena lol. BUT I'm gonna keep the idea that the people of the Great Kingdom knew the event would happen sometime in the future, and add on the one that connects Lulusia and Enies Lobby (here).
To summarize the latter, the One Piece Wikia has a trivia note on the Lulusia page that points out that the crater formed after Lulusia was destroyed is similar to the circular falls that surround Enies Lobby. This had got me thinking that 800 years ago, the same or similar weapon was used on an island (possibly the Great Kingdom itself) and the World Govt placed their judicial island over the subsequent crater as a monument to their victory and an example of the lengths they'd go for their "justice."
And now from the new chapter, Vegapunk has directly connected the rising sea levels from the Mother Flame weapon to the Void Century. “In order to understand where the world is heading, we must first address the past, specifically what happened 900 to 800 years ago.” This likely means that the weapon Imu and the Five Elders used existed 800 years ago, if one would need to know the past to understand what's currently going on. A threat from the past is also threatening the future. And I feel like with every chapter, there are more hints that suggest this weapon could be Uranus, the final Ancient Weapon. We know next to nothing about Uranus, except that it's one of the three Ancient Weapons mentioned in the Poneglyphs. Since the other two relate to the gods they're named after, many fans have theorized that Uranus will relate to the sky somehow. And as the lasers that annihilated Lulusia came from the sky, it's likely that the weapon is somewhere above the clouds, which would fit in the theorized theme for Uranus. Also the amount of destruction it caused aligns with what we've been told about the Ancient Weapons' potential. An island-sized crater in the earth that causes global earthquakes and rising sea levels certainly counts as mass destruction!
I've been mulling in my head since the last chapter that the Elders have had this weapon at least since the end of the Void Century, but that it could only be used with the Ancient Energy (the same energy the Iron Giant had run on) of the Great Kingdom and that technology was lost after its fall. And then comes Vegapunk who was researching this energy to create his own everlasting energy source to better the world, thus developing the Mother Flame. On a side note, I wonder if the Elders were using Vegapunk this whole time in order to create something that Uranus could run on. Idk I get that York tipped them off, but it seems too coincidental that the Elders would get a sample of the Flame and a guaranteed loyalist that can create it, and then order Vegapunk's death soon after. Vegapunk just seems like too much of a wild card to have been kept alive for so long.
But back on topic!! When the Elders were "testing the Mother Flame" on Lulusia, what I think they were really doing was seeing if that energy would work with Uranus. And because it did, they are desperate to make sure the Flame stays intact on Egghead, as it's they're only way to use Uranus. They've already shown the extent they'll go to in order to keep the world under their feet, it would be just a minor inconvenience for the world's land to sink if it means they can continuously subjugate entire islands in an instant (they live on the Red Line, what does it matter to them if sea levels rise?)
And if the Elders, likely some of the original 20 allied monarchs, had similar views 800 years ago as they do now, then it probably wasn't hard to conclude how they would use Uranus when they got their hands on it. And that could be the reason why Noah was built. Those of the Great Kingdom, a highly advanced civilization, knew the ramifications of using Uranus and thus were preparing for the inevitability of a world with little land. As Doflamingo mentioned, just 5 more meters of rising sea level would swallow up most urban spaces, so it would only take at least 5 more times of using Uranus to sink the majority of land globally (if each use causes sea levels to rise 1 meter). The World Govt then erased records of the Ancient Weapons to make sure no one else could threaten them with the other two, but also to hide the fact they already had one in their possession. And as a counter, the shipwrights of Water 7 passed down Pluton’s blueprints in case the World Govt got hold of that weapon too, which I had brought up in one of my posts.
I feel like with every chapter I'm reforming and rerouting theories lmao. Let's see how this holds up in two weeks 😂

Oh man I saw your totk issues post and I agree 100%!! Those are all things that have really bothered me about playing totk, and things that made playing it not nearly as fun (the dungeons, the shrines, the building, etc).
Especially the map!! When I tell you I was so disappointed by the maps on totk, I was hoping for something new! It really just feels like a modded botw, not an official sequel.
I was wondering what your thoughts are on the concept of “what if they had sent link to the past instead”? So the surface map would feature huge differences in the land forms and buildings that exist, and we’d get to see more ganon whenever he visits Hyrule, or go out to the desert to see Gerudo town, etc.
If they really wanted no sheika tech, they could also just have it being newly built? And you could introduce the new characters and such, etc etc.
(I also think the past champions are such a missed opportunity? If botw is about grief and loneliness, and finding hope in the hopeless, and Totk is about coming together despite that, it could have been really interesting if Link had gone to the past! They could have used the past setting as an eerie reminder to what Link and Zelda had lost when the Calamity struck!)
THAT BEING SAID: I’m not as familiar with the legend of Zelda lore, and haven’t played totk very much! I wanted to know your thoughts on this because you seem to have a lot of story and game mechanic knowledge that could explain why this could be a bad/good idea!
(Plus, your discussions are always super interesting to read, as is your custom totk lore, so I’d love to know what you think🩷)
I’m sorry if you’ve already answered an ask like this! If that’s the case, feel free to point that out and I’ll go through your ask tag if you have one:) I hope you have a great day!⭐️
Hi!
im glad you enjoy my rants, i often feel like im being overly mean but tbh were else could i just rant as much as my heart desires without getting spammed by annoying people (certainly not on twitter lol)
i have talked alot, and i mean ALOT, about totk and my issues with it, both lore and gameplay wise, i dont claim to be an expert on any, though i am an old zelda fan and aspiring gamedev, i really only talk about what i feel about it, what i think about it, and by all means im biased as hell xD
if you dont know yet, the "ganondoodles rants" tag is where all my rants go, so if you are interested in reading more on my totk thoughts thats the way to search (given tumblrs search in blog works ..)
and to answers your question, i have touched on it briefly, sending link back in time before the shiekah tech existed would have been an easy way to excuse how they jsut got .. rid of it, bc they didnt, it literally didnt exist yet- and for reusing the map- though that argument falls a little flat bc ... they coud have already done that in present totk, like i brought up in one of said rants, things like flooding gerudo desert, collapsing death mountain, drying out zoras domain etc, and changing the location of the main populations would have already done alot without having to redo the map in its entirety;
the little changes to map itself really wouldnt that big of a deal if they didnt also send you to the EXACT same locations AND repeat the SAME LOCATIONS AGAIN but in the underground, like thats a fact i have talked about multiple times bc its so illogical in every way, anywhere theres a settlement on the surface theres a bigger mine below, its so stupid, the shrines conenct to a lightroot, the same, again, you dont need to explore bc theres nothing TO explore (its also extra weird bc theres one below taburasa (tarrey town) which .... link literally build with dumsda (hudson) a few years ago .. unless that got retconned too idk wth do i know anymore honestly- AND it makes the sonau extra weird bc why the hell do they have a bigass mine under every settlement ESPECIALLY UNDER GERUDO TOWN like, that just adds to my suspicions towards them)
anyway, link to the past was the point and yes, it could have solved a few issues (mainly shiekah tech and the whole "story" taking place AGAIN in the past completely disconnected from you the player) i personally am not so much a fan of it, but that mostly comes down to me just not liking time travel, i dont like going back in time, i want to play and do things in the here and now, i want to repair the damages of the calamity, find out its origins, maybe fix that too, i love to learn about past stuff too, but that more in text, no literal flashback (unless done well), i want to connect to the past but it also holds alot of mystery that maybe shouldnt be touched upon, some mysteries and unkowns are much more interesting when left as such, i want to THINK about things and come to conclusions that are logical and makes sense in hindsight even if it wasnt clear at the start, i dont want information and what to think about it told to my face over and over like im stupid
after botw i really didnt care much about the past, maybe about the acient hero who alot of people specualted to be of gerudo origin due to its red hair- which also got a monkeys paw curled bc in totk they do sth with but its so stupid and insulting that i do not accept it as canon, say what they want, there are no dog people anywhere in the past nor present botw/totk wtf is that i hate it- and its not even .. why is that the reward for that, it has literally NOTHING TO DO WITH TOTK ITSELF I COULD YELLLL AAAARGH
main point is that really, i wanted to explore the past .. in the present, i hoped to find broken old shiekah structures, old labs and maybe some left over damage and records from when the old king persecuted the shiekah for their tech, i wanted to know where the ancient energy the shiekah used was coming from, what the boss arena in the middle of hyrule castle really was- so many things just discarded and acted like they never happened or mattered; i dont want to travel into the past, i want to discover whats left of it, piece it together, discover dark secrets you can ask no one about bc all that knew about it are long gone- thats what intrigued me about botw, it felt like there was so much left to discover only for totk to throw it all away and just do its own thing .. but not commit to that hard enough either so its neither its own thing nor a sequel-
.. that wasnt really what you wanted to know was it? xD sorry i tend to ramble on if someone seems to give me permission to
to sum it up, i think it COULD work, sending link to the past instead, if done well, but so could canon totk have been, it could have been done well but wasnt for reasons i dont know and tbh even fear bc i worry its sets a dark future ahead of zelda; i personalyl am just not a fan of time travel so i dont have that much to say to it :O

Hiii I’ve never done an ask game before (new to tumblr) so idk how these work but what about 11? What would you change about the source material if you could?
I would definitely change gameplay itself to include a better ecosystem lmao
Like rn it technically works for gameplay but I would definitely edit it a LOT if I had the power
There's many small things that irritate me just a little, which are mostly:
The massive amount of predators with very little prey when it comes to the Rainworld ecosystem
Random lizards everywhere, even in places without much food at all or in places where they fall off platforms on their own without any help every. Single. Time. Why do they keep coming back there? Like I get that the cycle brings them back, but if I kept dying in an area, I would move out, idk
There's always like 20 lizards in the area, but usually like 3 or 4 squidcadas and maybe 2 centipedes. What are those lizards eating? How is there still so many of them?
Usually there's little carnivores and plenty of herbivores, with only exceptions being when it's a pack of carnivores that take down massive prey and then feed off of that for a while, but still
Also it just doesn't feel good to play in plenty of places tbh
Like the longer you play, the more you realize that in most campaigns other than survivor (survivor actually feels like how surviving in a hostile ecosystem is meant to work. Spearmaster feels like "let me throw 5000 lizards at you for difficulty lol") the lizards are put there just to add additional fake difficulty and make stuff just annoying
Monk and Survivor don't suffer from that issue. Other slugcats however, mostly the downpour ones? ....a little bit yeah.
Also I hate how the approach of "most things likely want to eat you so stab everything you come across" is correct most of the time
So if I could, I would add plenty of neutral creatures to the game, to force you to actually learn what is neutral and not a threat and interact with things with cautious curiosity from the start rather than being hostile and only getting in trouble for doing so when it comes to scavengers and noodleflies and nothing else
But idk its a small thing that has been annoying me for a long while already, and the game is still great! It has wonderful art and messages and feels really good to play in most places, and I enjoy the story a whole lot!
I just wish more creatures were neutral.
I have so many ideas for fun interactions with neutral creatures (large beetles you can hide under, parrots that are neutral until you hurt them and then scream if you attack them, luring in predators, seals with glowing orbs on heads that are neutral but you can try to take the lantern if you don't mind being hunted, stinkbugs that let out clouds of chemicals if you hit them, etc.) And its a shame that it's not used more in rw
Squidcadas are fun, scavengers are fun, give me more of that please. Not everrything needs to be hostile every time.
Of course it is only my opinion, and the game is still one of my absolute favourites, it's just that one thing that I woud change if I could. I hope to learn modding to one day bring my creature ideas to life (or commission someone else to code them) so that I could experience the ecosystem I wish I could
And ofc if you disagree, good for you, there's many reasons why I can see you could disagree, that's just my personal opinion on what would be fun for the game. (人 •͈ᴗ•͈) nothing more than random thoughts

'the secret good neverafter that lives in my head' lol i take it you're not enjoying the season? curious to hear why if you feel like sharing
hmm idk that i would say im not enjoying it but yeah i think for me it's just not really like. a successful horror story at least so far. under a cut for length lol
i think the first thing watching neverafter has helped me discover is that i dont think characters in a horror story can know that they are in a horror story, at least initially. OR if they do, they have to be the only person who knows it and no one else can agree with or believe them. for me at least, such a huge element of resonant horror is the split between what the world insists it is and what it actually is, between what you are promised in life and what you actually receive. you have to be being told that the world is logical, good, that there is a way for you to win at life or beat the game or escape the prison, and you have to genuinely believe that, at least at first. so i wish neverafter hadn't started with the premise of 'the world has gotten noticeably Bad and you all noticed it and everyone agrees that this is the case even if they dont know how to fix it.' i wish they had played it straight, starting in the happily ever after of fairy tales and had the characters slowly realizing that actually they're not happy even though they're supposed to be, and having to break out of prisons that don't look like prisons and fight through a world that insists it is helping them at every step even as it constrains and warps them. and i know that's partially at odds with needing to appropriately warn viewers about what they're getting into, but i still think even if they had billed this season as a horror season and started out the first episode with Everything Is Great, that would have been excellent because i would have been just WAITING in agony for the other shoe to drop.
and then i think my other issue besides the framing has more to do with the general format of d20, which i don't think lends itself to horror for several reasons, firstly the at this point predictable shape of a main cast season. again i think a lot of the power of horror comes from unpredictability; you know something bad is going to happen in a horror story, but you don't know exactly when or what shape it will be. the wind gets kind of taken out of the sails if you know that it's going to be an every-other-episode combat situation. i appreciate that brennan's trying to add some new stuff in - red tokens, one shot kills, etc - but i don't think it's enough and even the twist of the tpk alreadys feel like it's been almost fully explained in-world to the point that we now understand how combat works in this setting. again that goes along with the format -- the players have to be able to understand the game in order to play it and be able to effectively help tell the story. but it means that things are pretty predictable, and when you've watched a bunch of d20 seasons you develop an eye for what the next fight will look like and what the overall arc of a season will be. there is of course still room for me to be surprised or proven wrong here! but my hopes are not high.
the other issue is that d20 is first and foremost a comedy. and it's not that i think horror can't be funny, but i think that largely the comedy has to come from audience interpretation -- horror needs to take itself seriously to succeed, at least for me. i think of the 'it's remarkably easy to buy an ax in central london' line from tma -- timeless and hilarious but jon is completely sincere when he says it and jonny's delivery is similarly sincere; he plays it straight, and so we get both the horror of that moment -- jon having been driven to a point where he feels the need to arm himself, which seems a pitiful gesture in the face of the forces at work on him -- and the humor, which comes when we distance ourselves a bit from the text and can appreciate that line out of context. neverafter, on the other hand, as a comedy show, is full of jokes and bits which not only contrast somewhat bizarrely with the more serious horror moments but also serve to lower the stakes of the entire project, as nearly every joke creates distance between player and character, reminding us as the audience that they are just that -- characters, not real people, in a made-up world. for example, in the spider fight where lou is calling the spiders who are attacking him Ladies as he fails to fight them off, it succeeds as a joke -- it did make me laugh -- but fails as horror because if someone was truly prone glued to a spider web with spiders crawling onto their body, i highly doubt they would be joking about it, so it takes me out of the scene and makes the world less real to me. in the other direction, the fact that it's a comedy also primes the players to take what brennan says as comedy first and horror second, eg the mouse in cinderella's old house who is saying something genuinely horrifying about not being in control of his body or actions as the entire table struggles not to break because the voice is funny or whatever. and so i feel like the two main goals of the season are at cross-purposes, because nearly all of the successful comedy makes it feel like less of a horror story, and makes the characters feel less real.
and having said all that it's not that i don't think the d20 table is capable of doing horror well, because i honestly think they already have done so with a crown of candy. acoc doesn't suffer from any of the issues ive outlined above; characters were killed in roleplay episodes to the point that you felt something terrible could happen at any time; the season took itself seriously, perhaps because the premise itself is so inherently comedic that they decided that to seriously embody a character who is a loaf of bread named senator ciabatta is funnier than making a gag out of it. whatever the reason, the stakes of the world are incredibly high -- we know this was also partially because it was a low-magic, high lethality season where brennan put limits on the party's healing abilities and removed most of the plot armor that protected characters in other fantasy seasons. and crucially, the characters did not begin the story thinking that the world was terrible. they were all members of the royal house of rocks, and heavily invested in their world moving according to logical rules and patterns; so much of the horror and tragedy of the season comes with the dawning realization on the part of the characters that the rules they thought would protect them -- those of diplomacy and morality and cause and effect -- don't actually prevent harm, death, grief, or suffering.
similarly, fantasy high sophomore year succeeds at horror, largely because the horror is dream and mirror-based so there is a sense of pervasive unsafety and a feeling that characters cannot even doze off without making themselves vulnerable to possession or violation. so it's not that i think d20 couldn't ever do horror successfully, which would almost be better -- they have done it and i have watched them do it but theyre not doing it now for whatever reason and that is disappointing. i was promised horror!! i want horror!!!
hopefully i don't need to say that this is just one guy's opinion on why it hasn't gripped me -- i know it's working for others because the tag is always full of people posting about how they couldnt sleep after the episode or whatever and truly good for them. but that is not my journey

Hii I'm new here I love your slenderman au it's so fascinating!
OK OK HEAR ME OUT!! what IF shapeshift cryptids exists in this au?? & if so that must be very rare right? powerful!!? dangerous!! unknown to most? UNKILLABLE EVEN??? & possibly be unwanted in the cryptid society?? the capabilities of its powers could out-matched the greatest? the real form undescribable?? possibly doesn't come from earth even? dimension, universe?? it just pop into this universe & be like: Ah, yes. my new home now, I be here whether you like it or not lol.
The forms they take might not look exactly identical to another already existing creature, but rather a form of how they could look as that cryptid species.(or any species)
with very noticeable (or not)
markings/symbols all over the body (colours whatever readers choice) that could glow when exposed to moon light, or while using magic, or other? it can give themselves away.
they could be fertile to all? or unfertile for whatever reasons. doesn't have exact gender because it can be whatever it wants, even possibly learn a magic traits, that's only possible through that particular species, & could use that magic OUTSIDE OF THAT FORM?? this.. would that be considered the most rarest cryptid species, MAYBE NOT EVEN A SPECIES BUT ONE OF A KIND!!??,
the slender brothers meeting someone like that? & possibly having love interest? or try to kill it??
the possibilities are endless. sorry obviously I LOVE OP things, is it to much? idk do whatever with it, it's your au <3
Hello, anon! I did a little explanation of shapeshifting in the AU followed by matchup headcanons / scenarios for each of the brothers. Feel free to skip straight to the matchup scenarios if you like and apologies if that wasn’t what you were looking for.
Thanks so much for your ask and your kind words! I'm so happy that you like my AU and I love the enthusiasm you have for your OC!
(I use it/its pronouns for the OC and call it a “creature” instead of a “cryptid”. Hope that’s ok!)
______________________________________________________________
Preamble
Shapeshifting cryptids do exist in the AU! There are cryptids that can transform into animals or other beasts, cryptids with monstrous forms that can alter their appearance to something more appealing and trickster cryptids that can take the forms of others. The ability isn't very rare or dangerous in-and-of itself and there are magical safeguards that protect against more mundane issues that can arise with shapeshifters, like identity theft.
I have a feeling that's not what you're going for, however.
If you're talking about something like an Eldritch God who's true form is unknowable but takes on a 'baser' form to walk among us lesser creatures; An unfathomably powerful creature that regards all on the mortal plane as mere playthings; Nyarlathotep come to life or the great Yog-Sothoth in all his might given form on this physical plane…
Then that changes things.
I can see all the brothers being wary of such a powerful creature, regardless of its intentions.
If this creature is looking for a relationship, its best bet is to hide the extent of its abilities. If it does I could write cute headcanons about how the brothers trace the creature’s markings as they cuddle, how they go on midnight strolls just so they can watch their S/O light up (literally) under the moonlight or how they pepper the creature’s face in ‘kisses’ whenever it expresses loneliness for being the only one of its kind. I could even write spicy headcanons about how their shapeshifting adds to their sex life.
But that’s not as fun. So…
_______________________________________________
Slender Brothers X Super Powerful Shapeshifter
Slenderman
He’s extremely wary.
A creature that strong is a threat to not only himself but to cryptid society, the society he fought to establish and one he helped build. This creature could do whatever it liked and no one could stop it.
Even if its intentions were innocent and its only aim was to live peacefully in society he would spend ample time and resources researching ways to destroy it.
Depending on how cooperative the creature is he uses the registration of a new species as a guise to learn more about how it functions and possible ways to kill it. He oversees the study himself, spending long hours in the labs with his best researchers as they work on collecting information on the creature.
The creature seems to pay him extra attention, giving him strange looks when it thinks he’s not looking and sometimes when he obviously is. What does it mean? What game is it playing?
Then one day it approaches him in the hallway when no one else is around. He tenses, ready for an ambush that he knows he can’t win…
It confesses its feelings for him and asks him out?
?????????????????
Is it a ruse? A ploy? Why would it need one when it could just kill him here? Is it just some kind of game? Does it want something from him? Should he go along with it to find out more about its weaknesses? Will it retaliate if he says no? Is it actually sincere? It’s certainly not bad to look at in its current form… but what if-????????????
He short circuits.
50/50 chance on whether the date happens or not.
Offenderman
He’s reckless but not a complete idiot. A creature that powerful should not be trifled with.
At first he keeps a weary eye on the creature and doesn’t engage as much with it as he does others. Then when he feels he has a better grasp on its intentions and demeanor he approaches. He’s casual and friendly though he’s not as bombastic as he usually is since he’s cautious about setting it off by being too direct. He’s also curious, trying to get a more direct read on the creature’s intentions.
The more ‘chill’ the creature turns out to be the more he opens up and lets his guard down, returning to his bombastic self around it.
Offender is curious about how strong the creature actually is and asks for a spar. He gets his ass handed to him and he knows that this person could kill him easily yet here it is, offering a hand to help him up.
That gets Offender to trust it more.
Thus, the seduction starts in earnest. Railing a super-powerful entity that could snap him like a twig but chooses not to? Extremely sexy.
Trenderman
Also extremely wary.
He tries to avoid the creature and has uncharacteristically little to say about its fashion choices or overall looks.
He acknowledges to himself that it would be very fun to make outfits that compliment the markings, both when they glow and when they don’t, but he does nothing with those thoughts.
The creature comes to him to talk (perhaps about design perhaps not) and he complies, less obviously irritated about being approached by this stranger for conversation because he knows of its vast power. The conversation moves to fashion and the creature asks for clothing help.
Trender complies. While he’s usually irritated at people asking for his services so brazenly, he’s fearful of what would happen if he says no and a little bit excited at the possibility of designing for someone that looks so unique.
Through the process of making the creature a new wardrobe, he looses some of his wariness. The creature not only has a respect for fashion in general and his abilities specifically, but is a delight to talk to and inspirational to design for.
The creature becomes a friend and his muse, as the ease to which it can shapeshift making it a never ending source of inspiration.
Eventually, the creature admits its romantic interest in Trender, admitting to trying to get his attentions in other ways that Trender overlooked in his focus on his work or assumed was playful banter.
Trender is taken aback but not against it. He says yes to a date and they see how things go from there.
Splendorman
Wary but not unfriendly.
He knows that a creature that powerful is dangerous to him, others, and the world as a whole; whether or not it says that it just wants to live in cryptid society.
But that’s no reason to be rude.
He makes friends immediately. He asks about the creature’s day, how it’s settled in, how it’s liking cryptid society. He recommends foods, shows, activities and experiences that one new to the moral realm should try and offers to be there as it tries them.
Initially, Splendor is definitely jumpy around the creature and is quick to soothe it whenever there’s so much as a possibility that the creature may react badly. However, even though it’s obvious that Splendor doesn’t fully trust it, the creature can’t help but open up to him.
Splendor listens earnestly to its thoughts and opens up about his own experiences eagerly, making it easy for the creature to confess its feelings about being the only one of its kind while they look up at the stars from Splendor’s meadow; makes it easy for the creature to think of Splendor’s feelings when someone insults it and it gets the urge to harm; makes it easy for the creature to appreciate all the smallest insects, plants, snowflakes and rocks that Splendor points out excitedly as they walk together;
Makes it easy to fall in love.
For the both of them.

(paceplace) / honestly ttcc writing is very messy i agree. i love the game to bits and dissecting it but the flaws in it are as enriching to pick apart as it is frustrating to discover. it really, truly does break my heart that toons aren't as appreciated as the cogs and i wish there were toon characters you could focus on in the same way the mgrs are. the NPCs you meet along the taskline are charming and i adore every single one of them but as much as i personally like them i don't think its enough to capture people's attention in the broad sense.
irt my qualms w/ how ttcc handles its game i think one of the many main issues boils down to the fact that they're disorganized. their issue w/ how lore has been distributed has been addressed twice by the team itself iirc (once in th same tweet where they confirmed fire\\setter as canon and once in their writers backstage post from around a yr ago). their writers backstage post helped give a little more perspective on why the lore was scattered around Like That.
as all over the place as the lore is, i do feel it's important to mention that they said in their backstage writers post they plan on eventually migrating all of their social media comics to the website so things like the rain\\diver comic is very likely to still be canon they just haven't added it in yet. idk why they don't add it around the same time its posted on social media my guess is maybe they're still trying to organize all the lore or redo some of it since its so all over the place (a couple of the comics we have rn on their website that are considered canon has info that was technically retconned) but yeah. i have hope that the way they handle their lore and (hopefully!) their taskline when they get around to rewriting it will improve in the later updates. i try very hard to stay on top w/ clash's lore esp since i have ppl come to me w/ questions regarding clash's story, characters, etc. but sometimes it is Very headache-inducing so i sympathize w/ how confusing/frustrating it is to a casual player. or just any lore-enjoyer tbf. i swear on my life i almost went crazy trying to make a timeline with btl
anyways you don't have to answer this if you don't want (i gen. apologize for the wall of text i really tried to get straight to the point w/ what i'm saying. and even then there's still a lot i wanted to say) but i'm really glad to see discussions on it. oftentimes criticism gets mistaken for hate and it shuts the entire convo which Peeves me. even if w/e's being criticized turns out to fall flat its better to address or talk about it than it is to not, imo.
Yes, exactly! I agree with all the points you've made here.
It's so strange to me that ttcc doesn't really lean into more how the cogs affect the toons, or toon society for all that matter, its a wonder people are so baised with cogs because we really dont get anything about toons. Their less part of the game and more set peices for this war, which sucks!
Theres obviously alot more room to write about toon lore and it would be easier to implement it in game, yet it gets brushed aside to further characterize the cogs and thats sad bc alot of the toons are cute and unique! Ttcc has great toon designs!
I also have to agree with the way the lore is handled, id even go as far to say big updates themsleves are handled in a frankly. Unprofessional manner. I mean, compare the update live streams done in jokey powerpoint slides to ttrs panles where they talk about progress on the updates. We really get little to no inside information until it's already ready to drop. Sure the game updates more regularly but all these updates are starting to feel like filler and padding. I at least can hope that hammerspace and mix and match at least come with some toon lore?
Its a shame that alot of what drew me into this game ends up weighing it down : (
Also yeah lol i didnt main tag this for a reason i do want to keep the discussion open! But all great points!

every day i laugh about how i followed you for your webcomic, and saw your yugioh art and was like "huh thats cool. i dont think i'll ever be into ygo but its cool to see art for it!" and then i fell assbackwards directly into the ygo fandom. and then i saw that you did tf2 art and i was like "huh that's cool. I'll never get into tf2 but the art is neat" and here i am drowning in how much i love tf2. do you have any other fandoms you want to try to get me into? anything niche? (i love love love your art btw. its absolutely beautiful and i still get butterflies when i see it)
lolol sometimes the fandom chooses you I'm afraid XD
It's super sweet to hear that you followed me for my original art :']c And I'm glad ya stuck around through my different fandoms lolol
Also I'm really happy you like my art too, that's very sweet to hear :']!! <3
And I can certainly list some fandoms/things I've gotten really into! I feel like my interests are kinda scattered, but if you like both tf2 and yugioh too, yours might be too lol :']
Now, the number of fandoms I've participated in is fairly small. To keep this list tolerably short, I'll only mention the fandoms I have or currently look up content for.
Big Fandom things you've def already heard of or might already be into:
Fallout 4/Fallout - Were you here during my Fallout4 phase? It was after tf2, I think lol :0 If not, Fallout in general has a great aesthetic, some fun lore, fun characters, and a pretty extensive fandom :0 I also really loved the game itself, and I suck at fps games :']
Stardew Valley - I haven't really dove into fandom for it, I just look at the pretty art :'] (Elliot my beloved,,,)
Balders Gate - It lived up to the hype for me, I've loved playing it ^^ Haven't participated in the fandom for it myself, but I know there's plenty of people who make plenty of good stuff. Great characters :'] I do wanna draw my player characters,,,
Undertale/Deltarune - Don't let the fandom scare you from the games if you haven't already played them :'0 they're so genuinely good
Steven Universe - were you,,, were you here during my steven universe phase,,, just ignore the infamous part of the fandom :'0 (I did not enjoy Steven Universe Future, the spinoff, I'm sorry if I missed the point but it missed me,,,)
Smaller Fandom things:
Castlevania on Netflix - All of the characters are exceptional, the animation is exceptional, the story is action packed but the characters have room to breathe. Isaac is my favorite character, hands down!
Dislyte - yeah,,, it's a gacha game,,, and I don't even know if it's a good one lol BUT hear me out: the character art and the settling/world concept is so good. There's so much room for good stories, I just wish the game would give us more than what it currently has :'0 I'm currently writing a fix-it fic for the main game story :']
Tiger&Bunny on Netflix - It's an anime with two seasons, and I believe there's been two movies, and there's a short manga add-on (it's an anime first, so the manga is supplemental) It's about superheroes that are sponsored by their network to fight crime. I really enjoyed the characters and world building :0 BUT IT IS CRIMINAL WHAT THEY DID TO LUNATIC MY BELOVED they'd better walk it back if season 3 happens
Petshop of Horrors - I... I don't know what to say lol it's an older manga, and it might not be perfect, but something about it just got me idk. It's def the most niche thing on my list that still fits the criteria of 'I liked it enough to actively try and consume fan content of it'
That's all I can think of atm, if I think of any more I can always revisit this and list em :]c

Okay!! I read ch 10 and lord help me because i need it!
Starting with April dragging shopping cart full of things and i don't blame her, almost the whole family needs it and i feel older leo will get into trouble for exposing himself, idk if the rest of hamato knows about what he did.
When barry explained the mystic power my brain kinda stopped working (i have 1 beain cell, have mercy), but ifhe really hit the jackpot on who they are? Damn that'll be either great detective skills or new level of common sense 😂
My god i feel bad for the rest of family because they're worried sick while the leos are off to fucking dreamland xD
" Surviving death " BOY THAT'S A BADASS LINE! I LOVE IT!! YES THEY'RE GONNA SURVIVE DEATH!!!❤💜🧡
You know the part where leo tries to give his mystic energy? Zip zapping? Yeah my brain got fried trying to read it 🥲
I read the spoiler 2 of ch 10 but damn seeing the thread fall makes me gets worried they actually failed.
Raphael smiles, a snaggletooth making itself known in the corner of the snapper’s mouth. ( you don't know how much this made me happy, after 10 chapters FINALLY THEY MEET)
Honestly the whole time i thought the ghost brothers are in their own colors, orange, red & purple instead of white.
" And just as the moon begins to fade, so does Raphael " NO DON'T DO THAT!! THEY ALREADY MET
" Draxum’s eyebrow raises in pure confusion " trust me barry, that my same reaction like BOY WHAT ARE YOU ON?!
And of course we gotta add everyone's insecurity, it's a hurt/comfort fic after all.
Casey jr finally got his phone and it's light blue!! Like a mini leo/blue!
And this got me confused “How is he, Little Blue?”
Ooo let’s see what you thought! I’ll respond to every thought but basically thank you for reading!
And here’s my reaction to your long response <33:
Tumblr media
Anyways, a kind of a long post :)
Starting with April dragging shopping cart…
Yellow bringing supplies is absolutely necessary with all the near-death-experiences the Leonardos keep having /hj.
And everyone already knows that Leonardo exposed himself! (Ch.6: Voices)
Yellow’s eyes narrow in frustration as she looks down at the ground at the reminder, “Casey and I asked a bunch of people in the neighborhood but everyone was either busy trying to salvage what they can or gave us vague answers. Apparently, some green giant was running around evacuating the city and someone said my mom must have gone with a group.”
Purple’s eyes lock on Leonardo who immediately understands.
“That was me,” the elder answers.
Yellow’s eyes slowly widened, “That was you?”
The family hasn’t gotten around to deciding what to do from that point on because of situations. (The situations being the injuries of course haha)
When barry explained the mystic power…
I tried knowledging it up for Draxum’s mystic explanation because he’s a warring-warrior-scientist, but basically Leonardo’s running out of battery power (because of the “voices”) so he’s using backups and Blue is the glorified battery charger. The phone and charger duo lol
I feel like Draxum’s thought process being the voices that Leonardo hears is: “Who else but his clingy family members would bother to stick with him for this long?” /j
My god I feel bad for the rest of the family…
The Leos in “Dreamland” (+ F!Raph and F!Mikey):
Tumblr media
“Surviving death”…
F!Mikey living up to his “badass mystic warrior” title fr
You know the part where leo tries to give…
See Little Blue’s dot/fire-center-thing? v
Tumblr media
I imagine that as his center (kind of where his heart is), when he was doing the defibrillator zip-zap thing, he’s taking a piece of it, balling it up to make it smaller for easier transit, then sends it down his arm directly to Leonardo’s center to explode throughout Leonardo’s body like an electric shock
Hopefully that helps!
I read the spoiler 2 of ch.10…
Everyone’s fine, we just need Draxum to go to the Hidden City to find the damn mystic herb. No worries :)
Raphael smiles, a snaggletooth making itself known…
Leonardo finally reuniting with Raphael was actually not what I intended when planning out the story. He was supposed to officially meet F!Mikey first a few chapters back, but things went awry in writing so I moved it to here and changed the brother. But I suppose technically the brothers haven’t officially-officially reunited.
Honestly the whole time I thought the ghost…
Teehee, they’re supposed to be in their personal colors *plays menacing piano noise*
“And just as the moon begins to fade, so does Raphael.”
THE STARS CANT COME AT NIGHT WITHOUT THE MOON, BUT WHO IS THE MOON????
“Draxum’s eyebrow raises in pure confusion”
Listen, the old man doesn’t remember everything mystic-related, and he’s absolutely confused why Blue of all people knows something mystical hahah
And of course we gotta add everyone’s insecurity…
I just wanted to share a little insight on how they’re feeling teehee I have to remind everyone I can cross the threshold of entering angst at any moment if I wanted /j
Casey Jr finally got his phone…
Purple would’ve made it a completely other color that isn’t any kind of blue just to spite the old man but we’re not at the point of making jokes with the old man lol
“How is he, Little Blue?”
It’s in ghostly italics, so it’s one of the voices, but whose? *rubs hands manically*

I'm really excited to see the Speedrunner vs 6 hunters coming up for so many reasons (rant ahead sorry)
1) Who's the sixth hunter ? There's already a lot of speculations (Tommy, Punz, Hannah, Spreen, Foolish, Jojosolos even...) and they're honnestly all great. And they would change so much the video, like clearly Tommy is a great player but he is naturally more fun axed, so it'd be nice to see him on serious business mode (+discduo content <3).
Punz seems more raccord with the others hunters, so it seems the more coherent to add (good PVPer, movement player, good follower too)
Hannah would be just as impressive as Punz. She may be a little less used to play with Dream and the hunters, but that's only from an outside POV, seems like she did great in Squidcraft with Sapnap and George in terms of teaming. And her prowess in MC is not to prove any longer.
Spreen would be super original, great player and great fan content (at least on tumblr, twitch and twitter) : my only worries if it's him is communication (really important in manhunt and difficult to juggle around, though it'd be super cool if they played with the usmp mod) and team play. Then again, 6 hunters is a really difficult level so maybe it's good to add some difficulties for the hunters ? Spreen is absolutely great on his own and I would love to see him 1v1 Dream on a challenge like that. He could purchase Dream with Sapnap, who'd relay info. Idk, it'd be so cool but the changes seem too important to the usual recipe for it to actually happen :(
Foolish : that'd be really good to see, especially since he watched and reviewed manhunt. He is a great addition to any group and good support. I'm not so sure about his skills in PVP and movement though (like litteraly, I don't know anything about them), but then again with sixth hunters not really necessary to have 6 great fighting opponents. But he is really occupied with the q.smp as of now so not sure where he'd find the time (same thing for BBH though so who knows ?)
Jojosolo, I admit, is a guilty pleasure. I'd really love to see her in it, seeing how good of a MC player she is and her willingness to team with Dream, and I think she'd bring many wonderful things to the game - But I doubt she'd be chosen because the team needs to work together and they, outwardly at least, never really did. I'd 100% love to see her there but seeing the new hunters are often close friends of Dream I doubt she'll chosen especially with all the others options
It could also be someone totally different lol (Callahan or RedVelvet would be a great surprise)
2) The game in itself : like, I'm 98% sure it'll be the usual formula with Dream's POV in mc, against his 5 usual hunters and a new one.
BUT it also could be an IRL one, especially now that he has the mask, that he scouted things around and that all their friends went there once.
It could be 6 hunters with totally new hunters (in which case we could have maybe multiple people seen upon) which would compensate the high number
Still think it's going to be the regular format though
3) The plays. Obviously Dream isn't a fan of forgettable videos for his most famous serie : but what will he even be able to do ? I'm not a great mc player (like, I rather build and farm than jump and fight) but the amount of things he already did in mc will restrict him a little in terms of originality. Then again, it's at least 10 videos where they find new ways to beat the game.
That's also why I wonder whether they'll change something about the format or the hunters : but all the previous manhunt got the same doubt about the originality of the play and look where we are.
4) The win. It's no mystery that both Hunters and Dream got a chance to win but to say which here... Like, logically it'd be the hunters. But often it's Dream, who uploads, that gets out victorious. But it's 6 hunters and if he wants to do a follow-up it better be a win for them so he can get revenge. Unless he needs to win so the challenge seems possible. Aaah
Also, the fact the date is unsure. I saw so many people think the manhunt release will be the 23 but it seems to be for his song (presave it if you didn't already !). I doubt Dream would post the two the same day so... I fear I must content myself with a "Speedrunner vs 6 hunters" SOON

The Story of Grelle the Reaper: A review by yours truly prt 2
So if you saw part 1 with the prelude hii did you get some water? Are you taking care of yourself? That was 1k words about something that itself was not even 200 and chapter 1 is like 5k words so...yeah. If you haven't seen part 1 to my review, you can find it here.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about nor what The Story of Grelle the Reaper is, then do I have a treat for you. The amazing @eemoo1o-animoo has been writing this origin story for everyone's favorite red reaper (which you can find here). My previous post was about the prelude and this one will be about Chapter 1: She Sells Seashells on the Seashore.
I will add on that I was messaging back and forth with Ell and so some of these things were what she had also brought up and made me think about so there's that too.
Add on from the Em who just finished this: this is a mess, I'm so sorry for anyone who reads this lmao
Tumblr media
Okay so overall review, the use of word choice, the whole name thing (I’ll explain further), the dialogue, THE WEATHER, it’s all amazing. This chapter as a whole is a great first chapter to look into Grell’s general life and how he’s been living this whole time. Looking at it as someone trying to see it as a standalone as to be able to show it to a wider audience, it’s great. All the elements that make up an exposition are there. We get to know Grell as a main character as well as his father and mother as part of our main side characters. The dynamic between Grell and his parents individually is well explained and so thought out. All of my thoughts here are gonna be separated differently from the prelude so I’ll explain it now:
If you saw the last analysis, you’d know that it’s a compilation of paragraphs and pointed out quotes and that worked because of how the prelude is written like in terms of length and structure. This one is way too long to fit it all in like that so I’m gonna separate my thoughts into three sections which are named father, mother, and George as the chapter is separated into those three parts naturally already (not named that, though, that’s just what I’ve dubbed them as lol). Each section will be essentially like how I did the other one before with callouts to specific quotes but it will probably be more mixed in and in a paragraph format. Idk as of writing this if I’ll do bullet points, but we’ll find out together. Okay, on to section 1 of chapter 1!
Section 1: Father
So to kick off, I’m gonna first mention the whole name thing that I said I’d explain as well as the pronouns. Grelle, the Grelle that we know, didn’t always know that she was, well, a she. “She” was born a “he” and so chapter 1 gives us that “he”. Here we aren’t with Grelle, we’re with Grell. As such, the name not having the “e” at the end and the pronouns being he/him are very important to note. Moreover, I actually like this choice of not starting with a Grell/e that already knows who they are gender-wise. I know that first instinct would have many want to do just that, but for a formative piece like this, it wouldn’t fit. We aren’t here to see Grelle be the badass we know she is, we’re here for the angst /j.
Anyways, the use of the different versions of Grell is great and I think it’s really important to point out. I know some people may see it and be like “oh but isn’t that disrespectful” and while I am not the best representation of the trans community as a person who doesn’t even really know their own gender, I’d think it’d be disrespectful not to show Grelle as Grell. They can and do co-exist, to some degree. The erasure of one is just as bad as the erasure of the other.
Okay so I’m gonna go in order of just how the fic is written so as to not jump around too much. So the first thing I wanna point out is Grell’s body language in how he’s sitting. He’s described to be “in a much more tense and humble position, hands rubbing together like star cross’d lovers.” There is some wording here that I’m gonna pick at, first being “more…humble position”. First, there’s a power difference here. Grell isn’t in a more humble position just because he’s nervous (though that is a part of it). There’s also the fact that that’s his father and they have been in this position many times before. While I’ve never been fired from a job (knock on wood, thank god, please don’t fire me boss), I can’t imagine the part where I’d have to tell people would be very nice. Seeing how Friedrich sighed before he sat, he probably had to go get Grell too or, at the very least, was close enough to not have to be told like his mother does as mentioned in the future. That less humble position on his father’s side, though, shows who’s in charge which just further displays the power difference. We learn that this isn’t Grell’s first time losing a job later, but I’m sure that this stance has stayed the same since the first time. The nerves are just even higher now because this is just another time where Grell messed up.
The next wording I wanna point out (mainly just because I really like it) is how his hands are described as “rubbing together like star cross’d lovers”. The way that “star cross’d lovers” was spelt immediately jumped out at me and my fellow Em doesn’t do things by accident, not on desktop and not in this story. So, naturally, I looked it up. It comes from Romeo and Juliet, apparently (making a disclaimer here, I don’t like Shakespeare. I don’t like any of his works. I never have, and most likely never will. So yes, I have to look these things up. The Macbeth thing was a fluke because I had to study that god forsaken play two years in a row. Some things I know, but most I don’t so I will instead be going to our friend Google for help. Rant over, back to analyzing). I don’t think it means much story-wise, but it is a little snippet that alludes to how a lot of people think that Grelle is a Shakespeare nut, something which Ell’s notes also agree with. It’s a cute reference, I like it. When I first read it I was like “ha I see what you did there”.
Okay we’re moving on where I start the count of how many times Friedrich calls Grell “my boy” so I can comment on it later. We’re at one.
Grell’s out of work “again” (it is at this moment that this Em regrets using italics for all the quotes bc I’m hand typing them) which signifies what I already said about this not being the first time Grell’s been fired. The difference here, Grell defends himself. We aren’t told of how the other conversations may have gone, but it doesn’t take a genius to look at the words “Grell swallowed hard” and know that this is probably his first time trying to defend himself. This Grell is supposed to be a reflection of Butler Grell™ after all and Butler Grell™ was not the most confident of people let’s say. To keep with that, he also stutters while trying to say it. When I hear it in my head I also imagine that his voice is wobbly too. They don’t have the best relationship, hell they don’t even have a good one. But I’m supposed to be going in order so we’ll come back to this.
The next paragraphs are about the job that dear Grell just lost. There’s weather here, but it’s more just atmosphere things rather than emotional things (though I can argue about how it was this atmosphere that adds onto the lifeless bleak that is how Grell will get to, but I digress). Anyways so they’re (Grell and his former boss Sally Bones) working with fish and I totally understand why Grell’s feeling sick because I would be too. Don’t get me wrong, I like fish when I’m eating it, not when I’m looking at it while freshly dead. As I was reading, I literally felt myself getting nauseous along with Grell so if that was the mission, mission accomplished.
First for this part, the name Sally Bones. It sounds so generic and like something that I’ve heard a million times so I looked it up, as one does, and will now share what I found, as I do. The first thing that would come up no matter how I typed it was a character from a book series called Varjak Paw. Sally, in that context, leads, and I quote from the fan wiki, “the largest group of rogue cats in the city.” Sally Bones…cats….Sally Bones here….fish…hmmm. I don’t know if that was on purpose but if so, I like it and if not, I still like it. Sally Bones is also apparently a totem with blonde hair that people like to write in porta potties but that’s wildly off what’s happening here so there’s just a new piece of information for you.
Continuing on, the fish stuff. While Grell gets fired after seeing the harvest for fish eggs, probably salmon from what I gathered in research but it could be another kind, it’s not said what happens after. I watched a video and, again, I completely understand Grell’s being sick because just bleh. Not for me. I don’t know at the moment if this fish stuff will become important, but I’m keeping it in the back of my mind because pigs did get connected so I’m keeping fish around too.
Okay back to Grell and his father. (For those following along with the fic on another tab, we’re at “I do not care whose fault it was, Grell,”)
And actually, that’s a line I wanna bring up. This is the first of twice that Friedrich says a direct statement of holding back anger. The other time which comes later is a much bigger stretch to say, but can still be said to be out of anger, just in a much more manipulative sense. Friedrich has dealt with all of the times that Grell’s gotten fired and is said to have had to have paid for it too. He’s frustrated, I get it, I can understand where he’s coming from. One thing with Friedrich, though, is he’s a smart man. He knows his way around words and non-verbal language (which in this case relies on tone and body language). As soon as Grell tries to defend himself, Friedrich  cuts him off and Grell goes right back to being small again. He remembers his place next to his father and just becomes smaller and smaller as time goes on. It’s even said specifically that Grell bows his head in an accustomed shame. He’s used to this, especially when with his father. This shame comes back in the George section, but we aren’t there yet, so I’ll leave it for then.
Add a count to the Friedrich calls Grell his son counter. And in the sentence he forgets his own son’s age *insert sarcastic woo here*. There’s not much to say, it’s just showing another way that Friedrich is showing his lack of interest with his son (his only son, as we come to learn).
We also get our first look into the development of Grelle and her want for children. Grell doesn’t know it yet, but the insinuation is there and I’m pointing it out. I know your future, Grell, you can’t hide from me.
Okay so this next part is speculation and very iffy and mainly just that Ell told me there was something here and that it starts here with Grell listing out all of the jobs that he had previously.  I was told to look at the scene where Grelle is talking about Beast’s death in the anime for Book of Circus. So I did. If we’re talking about speech patterns, then that’s something that I’ll have to keep in the back of my head to see throughout the whole thing. If we’re talking story-wise and what Grelle’s saying rather than how, I’m completely lost lol. My thought process went like this if we’re talking story-wise: scullery maid (that’s what Beast’s mom was), scullery maids are the lowest of the low servants and are assistants who do laborious tasks often working for the kitchen maids and are also the youngest usually, all of Grell’s jobs have something to do with kitchens (milk, eggs, bread, pig) so maybe that’s it. Grelle also calls Beast an “ugly old sow” but I don’t think that connects to anything really other than hey look more mentions of pigs. Essentially, the two things that this could lead to (from what I’ve gathered) are just speaking patterns when it comes to listing, or scullery maid in the kitchens.
We’re not done with this paragraph, though, nope not at all. Two things, then we can move on. First, donkey’s don’t have cud. For those who don’t know, cud chewing happens when an animal's stomach sends food back to the mouth to be chewed a second time. I know that donkey’s don’t chew cud because my mother is Jewish and there are dietary restrictions and stuff and donkeys aren’t allowed to be eaten because they don’t chew cud and don’t have split hooves. So take that baker, you don’t know what you’re talking about. That, or I’m taking this too literally. Oh well…Second! The pigs are back. So Grell “really, truly hated pigs.” but also, as I pointed out in the prelude, there is pig blood on him (or I guess by then, her). Whether this will be a change in heart or profession at some point, or maybe just a murder spree, is something we’ll have to find out as we get closer to the scene from the prelude.
  Okay moving on (I’m gonna try and go a bit quicker now bc we’re edging 2.5k words and haven’t moved past section two sjsjsj)! Friedrich starts heavy here with his digs of “wtf is wrong with you” type stuff, especially when he says that “it’s as if you [Grell] intend on not working at all!” Throughout the whole conversation, Friedrich talks down to Grell as if he’s a child rather than a 27 year old which I can understand to an extent but ultimately isn’t the right way to go about everything. There’s a quick interjection about Grell feeling sick again about the image of cutting into an animal to “rearrange his insides” which to me is funny considering we all know how murdery Grelle becomes. It’s with the next paragraph and the next bit of dialogue that really kicks off what I like to call manipulation (also add one to the “my boy” count).
“Not many fathers would be as pliant with you after so many years of this… this… insolence.” That line is so hard hitting because, well, it’s true. A lot of fathers would have thrown him out already; this pattern of not being able to keep jobs just would not stand. Most of all, Grell knows it. He’s nervous because of it, as his dialogue and own body language goes on to say.
Friedrich continues on with his little scolding speech and I won’t pick at every line he says but just know he goes back and forth between the blatant digs while also having that like fake niceness in between. What I will point out for those who saw it and decided not to look it up, what he’s saying in German to Grell is “Damn boy. You will be the death of your family, I know that.” This has a double meaning to it as he means, literally, the death of the family in terms of lineage as Grell is an only child with still no heir of his own and, figuratively, the death of the family if he can’t get his shit together.
We continue on with Friedrich trying to just be like “yeah, we’ll find you something, it’ll be great.” but Grell, having gone through this cycle many times already, doesn’t display the body language that he obviously wants from his child. Grell purposefully makes himself small. Granted, Grell isn’t a very confident person regardless and would probably have issues with generally any and everything he came to do. Word choice I wanna point out here is that Grell is trying to make himself “small and remorseful”. The “remorseful” part specifically makes me think that part of this is Grell playing it up so that this conversation can finally be over and done with. I think that Friedrich picks up on this too which is why he goes in deep and says that he’ll kick Grell out of the house. They say that eyes are the window to the soul, but that “gentle” look in Friedrich’s eyes, I don’t buy it. Does he probably have good intentions inside, yeah, of course he does, that’s his son, his only child. But uh all those scenarios where Grell’s imagining his father throwing him out? Horrendous behavior right there. That tells me a bit differently.
AND THEN HE KEEPS GOING!! Friedrich pulls the “I’m only doing what’s best for you.” card!! And then he goes on and continues to repeat the “not everyone would be like this yk” bullshit and as someone who’s heard the whole “you should be grateful” speech many times, it’s not a tactic of motivation. It’s a tactic of manipulation. Friedrich is manipulative and this is a hill I will die on.
But the conversation moves on and Friedrich dismisses Grell to the kitchen to deliver the news to his mother. The way that Friedrich tells him is absolutely criminal in my opinion, but whatever, I’ve gone off enough about how my initial reactions to this man aren’t positive.
So before I move on to section 2 (omg we’re almost there, it’s real), there are two things I wanna go over. First, the name Friedrich. The rough meaning of it is “peaceful ruler” and the name was first given to a bishop. The last part “ric” can also mean power. He has power over Grell as his father. You see what I’m doing here. Just wanted to say. Also I was told by Ell that Friedrich is a first generation immigrant and that his original last name was Schadenklippe. So I googled the name. I got nothing lol. The page was blank. So I googled it separately. “Schaden” means damage in German and “Klippe” means cliff, so that was a start. Schaden is a verb for doing harm or causing damage. So he causes damage to Grell there, boom, analysis over thank you for coming. No, but, I’m just saying because I had this info given to me so I might as well overthink it.
The other thing is what separates the sections as they naturally are from each other. If you’re on desktop, you might not be able to see it, I know I couldn’t until I was on mobile. But it’s a record. A cinematic record, if you will. If you don’t understand the implications of that then I’ll give you a minute…got it? No? I’m telling you anyway: we’re watching Grelle’s records. This is a confirmed fact Ell confirmed it so it’s real. There was also a possible joke made that this is like Eric who’s watching it which would mean that Eric would have been the one to have reaper Grelle which is like to me the best thing ever. But it could’ve been a joke. Ell is cruel like that with me as I am simply just a lowly puppet on the strings which her big brain is holding up /j (the big brain part, though, that’s true y’all they’ve got some serious brain power).
But this FINALLY leaves us at the end of section 1. Onto section 2 which will be hopefully shorter for your sakes and mine.
Section 2: Mother
Okay I’m gonna try to not make this as long as section 1 was let’s see how well we fare.
First thing’s first, Ell revealed to me Grell’s mother’s name and is allowing me to use it here. Her name is *drum roll* Hilary. So the name Hilary means cheerful or happy and the Greek origins of the name come from the word for gracious. In other words, Hilary is not sad and will be giving us wholesome moments :D until they’re not wholesome anymore, of course, because we all know where this fic is ending up eventually and with all the scenes that Ell has alluded to me about…yeah that’s all I’m gonna say.
So uh remember how I mentioned the weather? Yeah well there wasn’t really any weather in the last section but there is now! It is sunny and nice(ish) out and sunshine means happy times are afoot. Which kinda makes sense considering how Hilary’s name means happiness, after all. The sun is usually used to show positivity and life in literature. Keep this weather in mind as it is here, it really helps set the atmosphere.
Next thing to point out (this is where I’m back to going in order for those following with the fic I’m right after Hilary asking Grell if he thinks the sun will stay out) Grell is a momma’s boy. Rather than tell her the truth which would probably make her sad, he holds out hope that the sun will stay out. This is the first instance of momma’s boy Grell, we see more as it goes on.
So now we’re at the inevitable confrontation. Hilary suggests a celebration for Grell’s job which she doesn’t know he lost yet. The way that she talks about things is just so much different from how Friedrich does, specifically when talking to Grell. I know that the contexts are different; he’s essentially scolding for losing another job while she’s blissfully unaware, but even just the way that Grell mentions how Hilary might react if Friedrich did kick him out shows that she’s most definitely the less harsh of the two parents. Hilary exudes warmth, that’s what I’m trying to say, basically.
I wanna mention an analogy that I forgot to mention here because I think it’s a beautiful way of putting her ignorance and hope: “...suddenly the kitchen felt warm as she smiled at the thought, wrapping the notion in a handkerchief and putting it in her lunchbox of faith.” This is technically about Hilary hoping the sun stays out, but I think it has a deeper meaning in the end. Hilary likes to keep hope out for things, she’s positive about situations, even little ones like the sun staying out. This extends to how she most likely views Grell and his whole, to put it lightly, inability to do much. She wraps the notion of hope in a handkerchief and puts it in her lunchbox of faith. She loves her son, and there’s nothing that’d change that and if something does change that I will start to cry (/hj).
So Grell’s trying to tell his mother, whom he loves so much, that he lost yet another job. And he just can’t do it. He can’t look at the woman he loves most in this world at that moment and tell her that he disappointed the family again. Looking at the comparison of their hands, a mother who loves her son and a son who loves his mother, Grell just can’t bring it to him to tell her. I like the comparison of their hands. 10 PM Em who had a day full of going to a party and so. many. errands. who I know for a fact won’t go back and edit this can’t tell you why, but know that I do.
A lot of this section is just kinda setting up Grell and his momma, particularly Hilary. Her ability to find the positives and be blissfully ignorant, whether from her own will to ignore the bad or just true ignorance to reality, is a contrast from the realist and literal person that is her husband. Grell might have gotten his smarts from his father, but you can tell that a lot of his personality most likely comes from his mother rather. Sure he might not have the childlike wonder or the ignorance, but he has the compassion and empathy, even if we’ve only seen it with his mother up to this point.
There are mentions of birds as well (for those following along we’re at the paragraph which starts “Oh, aren’t they lovely?”), specifically blue and coal tits. Spiritually, the blue tit represents happiness. It can also be an omen of love on the way as it represents love and trust as well. It can even represent the arrival of a bright future. This can be symbolic to how Grell’s future may play out. While we fans of Kuro already know what’s going to eventually happen, and we know it is much less than happiness, I think that there will be pieces of happiness before the fall. In order to fall from a great height, one has to get to that height in the first place, after all. Alternatively, we could ignore the happiness and omens of love and take it solely for the bright future which could be symbolic of her future as a reaper. It’s another fall from a great height, buuuttt, Grelle as a reaper seems to be really good at her job. Sure, William might chastise her for being lazy, but he does the same to Ronald and we know that he’s also a pretty competent reaper. Grelle gets what she needs to do and is a strong reaper, able to go against who is probably the strongest reaper we know of in the series, the Undertaker. Grell has a bright future ahead once he figures out who he really is as Grelle and in the profession of a grim reaper, both which are symbolized by the blue tit. Similarly, robins, which are also mentioned, can represent a myriad of things such as the arrival of new beginnings, redemption, and happiness. Once again, this can be symbolizing an ascension before the fall or Grelle in the future. I’m leaning more towards future Grelle because of the whole new beginnings part, but that’s up to the reader. There are other tits mentioned but I couldn’t find anything about them so we’re leaving it with the blue tit and robin.
With all the beautiful birds, there’s also one that’s mentioned to be disfigured and ugly. Despite that, Hilary still wants to help it out. I want to say that this bird is supposed to represent Grell, in a way. Compared to all the other men his age, he’s disfigured. He doesn’t have a stable job (let alone a job in the first place), a family of his own, not even a wife or girlfriend at the very least. Compared to the rest of society, he’s disfigured. Despite that, his mother still wants the best and wants to help him. All of this feels like foreshadowing to me, but I could be reading into things just way too much. We’ll see as more comes out.
Part 2 and 3 of Grell being a momma’s boy, he cuts the bread for her and later on goes to make a list of groceries for her rather than having her write it herself so he can go get some things that are needed. Hilary has a form of arthritis and so this is just another way that he can help look after her. He’s a good son and I love them so much, they’re so cute. It is a little worrying that it’s mentioned that it shouldn’t be as bad as it is given the time of year, but I’m going to brush over it for now and just keep it in mind for later.
There’s mention of a baker, Hargroves, but I doubt that he’s going to be too important so I won’t do much with him. (His name means “from the hare’s grove”) All that the paragraph really reveals is just more about Hilary’s personality and kindness as she would refuse free food, even from a friend/referenced past lover.
The last thing I wanna point out is the last phrase “sweet in gesture, bitter in procedure.” which is in reference to a kiss that Hilary gives Grell before he leaves to go get the stuff. Like I said before with the hands, 10 PM Em can’t say what and if I figure it out while I sleep I'll come back and edit this and if this is still here, know that I forgot. Okay? Okay. From what I can say right now in my state, Grell loves his mom and so the gesture is sweet, however all the underlying things that he never said or made known makes the whole thing bitter. I’m probably wrong, but that’s what I got.
Section 3: George
Last section woooo! Can you tell I’m losing my mind?
First thing’s first, the weather. It’s back to being grey and gloomy out. This grey and gloomy is probably going to be a recurring thing, not just because that’s the weather in Cornwall but also because it’s symbolism for Grell’s overall being. It’s like how in the prelude it was storming while Grelle was killing herself and how it’s much warmer and sunshiny with Hilary. Grell is just overall grey right now, and the weather reflects that.
The chapter opens with more Grell and Hilary bonding moments from the past and it’s cute, they’re cute, we know this. He’s helping her with her handwriting and we’ve seen Grelle’s handwriting in one of the chapters (I can’t remember which) but it looked really nice so it makes sense that he’d want to help. Hilary also apparently knew a lot of what was going on, which is like cool to me.
Quality control is here now everyone I went to sleep and now it’s the next day and I can properly think. For those wondering, no I’m not going back and editing the previous portions. I think it’s funny to see me descending into madness because I’m weak and can’t stay up past like 11 PM on a good day and function. I’m more functioning now, let’s continue.
So we’re gonna talk hair now because that’s where I left off. I tried looking up the significance of long hair on men in cultures, but I don’t think that that’s where anything is going to connect. Rather, the long hair is significant to Grell/e themselves. When Grell, there isn’t really a reason for him to have his hair long. In the late 18th century, it was commonplace (mainly in the 1780s) for men to lightly powder their hair, but by the 1790s, it was really only something that the older men did. Considering that it’s outright stated that Grell doesn’t like (or at least isn’t fond of) his hair, he doesn’t have a reason to have it long. Honestly, I just thought that Butler Grelle (who this Grell is based off of) had their (?? idk what pronouns to use for Butler Grelle I’m just gonna use they/them) hair long because it would’ve been easier for Grelle herself, but I digress. It doesn’t seem like Grell’s ever had his hair really short, so the fact that he does can either be a surface level keeping his mother (who does seem to like it) happy or a deeper subconscious where it kinda feels right but he can’t figure out why and he doesn’t like it but can’t part with it. Then again, we do know that Grelle has her hair short in the OVA and so the long hair could eventually be cut down to that length to show her moving on from her past, as the cutting of hair usually symbolizes the end of a chapter in life. That one’s probably the most probable.
So now we get into the meat of this section where George and unnamed other man friend of George come across Grell while he’s out. Grell is not ready for this interaction, obviously, and I won’t lie, I was kinda scared reading this part. At first I thought they were gonna be like mean and not friendly at all, which isn’t completely the case. They’re just people who know Friedrich.
George and unnamed man kind of take the whole time to just talk about Grell as if he isn’t right there in front of them. They talk about the struggle to get a job, what he looks like, the fact that he’s pretty quiet (not even saying a word the whole conversation), and even talking about Hilary right there in front of him.
The main reason that Grell doesn’t speak is because of a) the discomfort he’s feeling and b) the overwhelming anxiety coursing through him. He’s become very aware of the fact that his father talks about him and goes through a mess of thoughts as he overthinks it all. In fact, he overthinks everything that’s said to him, a testament to his horrible confidence in himself. Anyways so I’m gonna pick apart what they say about Grell now so bullet point time!
“Your father tells us you’re struggling to get a job.”
Friedrich talks about Grell during his work. We never get clarity on exactly who George and Co. are to him, but it’s people who at the very least have known him for long enough to have known of Grell since he was somewhat younger and have interacted with Friedrich in the near past. Either way, Friedrich talks about Grell during work or just while out and so yeah.
The whole looks like his mother or father thing
When being described as looking similar to his mother, Grell’s happy and gets a genuine blush. At this moment here, before realizing that “he” might not be “him” after all, Grell’s just happy to be compared to his mother in a positive light. He’s described as feeling “lighter” and that it feels like the sun has come out (more weather symbolism where sunshine = happiness = Hilary). Then George says that he’s more like his father and Grell just deflates. There was a post that Ell had reblogged about this scenario too that I connected to this and that one gets to a more subconscious level. Basically, it’d be that Grell liked being compared to his mother over his father because it means that he’s seen in a more feminine way which, as a mtf trans person, would be ideal.
There’s the misunderstanding with Grell shaking his head at his own thoughts and George and Co. thinking he means otherwise, but there isn’t really anything there besides him (Grell) almost speaking but getting interrupted in the end
George and Co. talking about Hilary also doesn’t have much to say except that Grell got somewhat visibly upset
“broad-buckled and like a cryptid he remained.”
This is another way to show Grell not being confident. A lot of times, people will feel huge and like a monster when they don’t fit in (and use it as a reason why they wouldn’t fit in). I’m explaining it poorly, but the best most recent place I can remember it being used is in Taylor Swifts’ MV for Antihero (I think, don’t quote me on that, it’s one of the recent ones) where she’s much bigger sitting in a dining room. The lyrics reflect it as well when she sings “Sometimes, I feel like everybody is a sexy baby/And I’m a monster on the hill”. The feeling is similar to that
 “Friedrich said that was his namesake, aye.”
The name Grell means “rough angry.” I have no idea what they’re talking about. But okay.
There’s more to this, but I feel like we need more info on Friedrich in order to make the connection (or at least, I need more info) so it’s another thing going to the back of the mind.
“Have you taken a liking to the family profession, yet, lad?”
Irony. Grell doesn’t like the “visceral mutilation” of his father’s profession. Grelle does. She even finds a wife out of it (Redcliff supremacy idc). It is nice that Friedrich at the very least never pushed Grell into going into the medical business, only using it as a last resort or empty threat, but I still don’t like him very much right now.
Okay we’re at the end now so back to paragraphs. We’re just at where they say that it’s a shame that Grell doesn’t follow in Friedrich’s footsteps as he is a great man. Grell can’t imagine having a similar life as his father as a husband and father himself; it makes him sick to do so, enough to rush away. He states how he’d never feel a true connection with his imaginary kids and it sickens him. Grell does not want to be the man nor person his father is or ever would be. Grell doesn’t want the family (kinda), he doesn’t want the wife he pretends to love, he doesn’t want the strained relationship with his kids. He doesn’t like it, and there’s nothing wrong with that. The only thing wrong here is the expectation that that’s what he needs to succeed. As a person who doesn’t want nor has ever wanted kids of my own, I can relate to the kids part. Constantly I get told that I’ll change my mind when I’m older and I have a partner of my own who does want kids, but I know that that will never happen. Kids aren’t needed to be successful, and neither is a proper family. Unfortunately, the stereotypical family man of the late 1700s is what’s expected of Grell and so he can’t really promote his thinking of otherwise, especially when he’s the one carrying the family reputation in a sense.
~~~
 If my over 6k word analysis is to say anything, let it be this, this story is filled with so many things that I love and can’t wait to see where it goes. I’m gonna start a taglist for this, so if you wanna be added, tell me and I’ll add you. And let me know what you all think of my ideas as well or share any ideas you may have!! Comments and asks are open so please, I love talking about this and as the appointed co-number one fan and analyzer, talk to me about it and I will love you forever. Okay that’s all I’m gonna go take a fat nap now haha. Until next chapter!
Season 4 wasn't great. I've LOVED every other season but for this one the characters were off, the jokes fell flat (if I hear one more fart joke I stg) and the huge time skip wasn't great either.
The whole season feels like they could have condensed it down to 2 episodes but they decided to add a million characters and plot lines that didn't matter.
Idk. It looks like they overworked the batter and the fluffy pancake we were promised is now flatter than a witch's tit.
I mean, still technically a pancake. So I'm not mad, just disappointed.
disclaimer: i LOVE the dragon prince, i loved seasons 1-3 and i enjoyed season 4. here's the deal, season 4 is a fun season and i enjoyed watching it. i do think, however, that the writing got a mediocre a little too often for it to be worth the 3-year wait. if you disagree with me, i am more than open to hear thoughts and counterarguments. seriously. i think discussion is healthy and it's something i actually really enjoy because i like talking. also, i'm way too tired to have people yelling at me/to yell at other people with a different opinion than me...i am a college student and i am already dying so please, be respectful. i am not trying to actively insult anyone who liked season 4 and i am also not vehemently hating on the show [criticisim != hate] i'm more than happy for the people who enjoyed the season and i really do like to hear thoughts. with that out of the way, hello anon, here's a wall of unorganized text that attempts to convey my feelings overall
since i am an actual child, i laughed at the jokes but that's beside the point. i get where people are coming from when they say they were poorly timed and/or didn't land well
but on the topic of jokes, season 4 had me laughing at a lot of things i....shouldn't have been laughing at. and honestly, it makes me feel like an asshole lol but i'm sorry some of the more emotional or intense scenes are just really goofy with the way they were executed and yes, if someone wants me to, i can go in depth with this, but for the purpose of this ask (especially since it wasn't focused on the humor in the first place) i won't give my thoughts here
i'm going to be very blunt: tdp has kind of backed itself into a corner if there isn't a twist or some sort of major consequence for rayla leaving. if rayla leaves for 2 years and nothing comes from it other than relationship drama, that's a bit yikes. i'm not saying that everything should have been resolved this season, but the show doesn't even try to tell the audience that something bigger may be happening. if there IS a bigger consequence, the show doesn't properly hint at it/set it up, and THATS where the issue is. when it gives us nearly nothing to speculate off of, we have no idea where her character or the story is going. <- this is not a catalyst for mystery, it's frustrating because everyone (especially rayla) feels out of character and for what
also, this is a nitpick, but callum letting rayla go after viren in episode 9 was not earned.
anyways, the season had to reintroduce us to the characters that we haven't seen for 3 years, and it has to inform everyone about the 2-year time skip. the time skip, in my opinion, was not done well. time skips are used to grow up the characters and introduce new characters, environments, and potential plot points for the rest of the story that is being told. the dragon prince does not do this very well. yes, there are new characters, but they aren't even necessarily relevant for the rest of the story, so it feels like wasted time. the candle woman and the n'than dude show up and then drop off of the face of the earth never to be seen again. terry is fine, but i do think it's a bit odd to give claudia, someone who has gone off the deep end, a really goofy and lighthearted boyfriend (he's just there to keep her morality in check a little bit, i.e. giving rayla the coins). i think overall, a lot of things happen in season 4, but it feels like a very small portion of said things actually set up for the future.
i've been avoiding bringing this up, mostly because i'm lazy and i don't want to find exact quotes from the show, but i'll bite. the writing for seasons 1-3 felt authentic and natural. the writing in season 4 felt so on-the-nose, shallow, and almost preachy.
"i was impressed with your vision for using the dragon queen's visit as a catalyst for growing trust and peace across the continent"
"they might be at first. but it will change when they meet her"
^ ezran says this and yup, that's enough on that topic, no need to explore it further. i think the writing overall was just so lackluster and forced compared to previous seasons. again, i could elaborate on this but i've gone on for long enough in this post so if someone wants me to just ask...might take a really long time for me to respond though getting my thoughts in order takes forever.
last and least is this monstrosity .... i was really excited for this book hopeful that we could get some new artwork for these characters but unfortunately most of it is old art we already have and the new art is honestly awful :/ nothing exciting bland at best and just downright bad at worst and just now knowing that the art was made by a pedophile makes me feel nauseous so that was a waste of 15 dollars
Tumblr media
ugh i seriously cant believe this piece of "art" is in my apartment now :(
i hope yall enjoyed my silly little opinions i hope yall have a great day/night !!!
Lol I’m the anon who has sent increasingly devoted love letters to you and your writing via anon for the past year (more then that? Idk). I think I once compared your writing to a sailors wife out at sea (embarrassing) and I am also the one who asked for the jurisdiction sequel (and many other more embarrassing anons that I’m happy I don’t remember in detail). But just… you’re so cool & so kind & so talented. I wish I could talk to you off anon (I mean I actually could, we are even mutuals) but I know I would fall in love with you immediately. I already have as much as you can without ever having a real conversation. This is all just to say you’re so great. I hope you’re incandescently happy for all of your life. Please don’t feel the need to post this, I just wanted to tell you.
I refuse to let this one go as long unanswered as the last (LOL what is that 3 months instead of 12? I'm a nightmare!) because this is so very kind and incredibly flattering. I will happily continue writing these two lovesick idiots as long as there's other people out there who enjoy them and like my work (and by extension, me).
I have a couple other asks about the AU (whether from you or from others, my inspiration remains plenty fed) that prompted this, so I'll add other snippets going forward as I can manage, but I wanted to post a follow-up specifically in thanks to you for being such a unbelievable support to me through a really rough time. I hope you enjoy it!
Thank you for this, genuinely. My temperament is such that I can really only deflect how much it means to me by offering words in response, but based on the themes of my writing, hopefully that speaks itself to how much I treasure it because I really do. 😭
maroon sampling a song from the rep era, an era where the word "fake" was prevalent and frequently used, and being a kaylor song and the ending of the great war being fake and a kaylor song is so ow (obviously taylor couldve just sampled a rep era song bc a lot of rep is about karlie and that was probably one reason but i feel like a lot of her production decisions are deeper than having only one reason)
Yeah, it is so ow you're right anon.
Like, let's add to that that she starts the song with her before switching to you and it's so painful. Like, I do think she is saying in part that the good parts of her relationship with Karlie weren't real love, it was fake love masquerading as real love because when you're in the lavender haze, everything looks good and amazing to you.
And so you can't really see the signs that this relationship is going to burn up, I think the choice of using maroon as the color is so interesting. I've spoken before about my many different interpretations of maroon, and like one of them is a fun one where I think she did it because maroon is more complex than the entirety of red. I can really do a lot of fun lit stuff with red and maroon because just the difference in how surface level red is versus how deep maroon is- I think it was motivated by the difference in the genders partially. Like, her heartbreak with karlie was deeper than with Jake for sure and it shines through the differences in the songs and like... in red- the lyrics they're all cliches. I think she did that on purpose.
I know ur talking about rep and I'm over here on red sorry anon but this is what ur getting right now lol but yeah red is on purpose all cliches because I think she is saying that relationship was a cliche to her- after all, she had already been groomed and abused once. I think it's very self-blaming and it was written in a self-blaming manner and so for me, maroon is also self-blaming but like in a real way?
The fact that she is taking accountability for hurting her lover in maroon, it contrasts to how she took on the assumed accountability that society was forcing on her through attacking her as a slut and a bitch and a villain but not turning their fingers towards the men in the situation. I also think it's a tell on the men being cliche and difficult to write meaningful lyrics about in a real way because they put up a facade with her precisely because it was predatory but this relationship with Karlie. This one hurt more and harder because they saw each other and still fucked it up. Like, they were good until they weren't type of deal and like sometimes being good individually doesn't mean ur good together and that's really what taylor had to learn with karlie and that's what shines to me when you take all the songs about kaylor and put them together.
Like, even maroon itself, it's specific to details and inside jokes and all the references mean something to the two women in that relationship that we will never understand because we weren't there with them and maroon feels like you're looking inside of kaylor with taylor in her mind whereas red is more of a outward perspective looking in- more like she wrote red about "oh no, I've done it again what will people say" type of way?
Like maroon is so special to me because it's the complete opposite of red in every way and that to me is indicative of it being queer alone but then you get the literal gay lyrics and I think it's fitting that she used maroon as the color. It's literally a shade of purple and you know, purple is also the color of fresh bruises. I think that's interesting, because in the great war it's definitely a retrospective years down the line changing of the narrative but maroon, you're right in the relationship and I think you can tell because the production alone is terrifying. Idk when I listen to that heavy thud, it reminds me of when I hear my blood rushing to my ears. It's so heavy handed in production, I can't help but feel like it's intentionally done to showcase how when ur in love, even the red flags can seem romantic or like a good sign.
And it's like, maroon is so heartbreaking to me because she is painting herself as the bad guy in the song. She's watching her lover sob with head in hands as they fall apart, that's so sad to me because it's an admission of guilt. Of knowing that the reason that your relationship cannot work is deeper than any of the fights you've been having. It's a deep incompatibility between the two of you that was always inherent but like fools in love, you rushed in and ignored the warning signs.
Since here’s for the word stuff and your other blog is for arts.
A funny thought because Chrissy’s parents, her mom specifically, is the worst. 20 something year old Chrissy having to deal with her mother constantly asking if she’s seeing anyone in the most snide tone. Like she’s amusing herself picturing her daughter with no one because she lost out on what’s his face. I don’t wanna say his name it feels like I’ll get cursed.
Or what I imagine Eddie says often when he who shall not be even thought of is brought up. Anyway.
Chrissy has weekly dinners with her parents it’s once a week, she promised her little brother, and her mother always brings up the relationship thing and brings up how her hair looks or asks about her diet, whatever, she’s just a horrible person but specifically, she likes to mention all of the people that Chrissy had been acquainted with before who have gotten married, who are having children, who have wonderful husbands or fiancé’s or partners. So Chrissy decides, because she is in her doesn’t give a shit era, to text Billy with an idea. The idea makes Billy laugh so hard he falls out of his seat. He’s in, he is so in and he wishes that he could video the moment they do this. And he does, he takes one of Eddie’s old vests, a raggedy old denim and hooks it up with the camera in the pocket. Hidden.
So Chrissy calls her parents and she tells them, directed mostly to her mother, that she’s going to bring who she’s seeing over. They make her happy, they make her feel safe, she feels fulfilled and happy and loved. She does text her brother to find himself elsewhere that day because things are gonna get awkward in that little boy ain’t stupid.
They’re gonna show up maybe 20 minutes after Chrissy is having dinner with her family, she says they’re going to be a little late. Her mother kind of looks at her and says what do you mean they and then the doorbell rings. In comes Steve Harrington, and here her mother gets a little excited because Steve, while he might have veered off the path, comes from a wealthy well to do well respected family, he’s tall and handsome and polite, and she imagines he’ll probably get some corporate job from his father because of course he will right? So he meets her family he schmoozes they love him. He sits.
And here is where Laura notices that there are two other plates out. Chrissy got the table ready who else did she invite? Now she begins to sweat. The doorbell rings again and inside comes Billy Hargrove, he throws them a hello nice to meet you and gives Chrissy a firm kiss on her lips. Steve had given her a kiss on the forehead. Chrissy tells her parents that Billy is going to college, he has a high GPA, he’s athletic and he makes her happier than she’s ever been. He and Steve make her happier than she’s ever been. Her father starts drinking and her mother’s heart starts to palpitate.
She wants to yell, outraged, but before she can the doorbell rings one final time, and Laura stares at the chair with the final empty plate and wonders who else could possibly be any worse than the bulldog that is Billy Hargrove and his whoring reputation with older women. She ought not to have wondered that.
Walking into her house, a nightmare a tall 6 foot nightmare with scraggly long hair torn up jeans a leather jacket and a cut off T-shirt showing the expanse of his belly. She sees the tattoos, piercings, she gets faint. Philip drinks just a little bit more. Steve raises a hand to wave to Eddie, Billy juts his chin in a silent what’s up, and Eddie smiles brightly and goofy, lifts Chrissy up into the air and gives her a long hard open mouth kiss which ends in him tipping her. Tipping her back and then lifting her. He kissed her like a old fashion romantic movie and it would’ve been cute had it not been Edward Munson.
Before Chrissy can say that Eddie is kind and gentle and sweet and beautiful her mother‘s face connects with the salad upon her plate. Philip puts down his glass, stares at his daughter and says I think you made your point, sweetheart.
Dinner is only a little bit awkward but they finish the meal and leave. Billy has it all on tape and they all haven’t stopped laughing from the moment they stepped out of the house. Laura Cunningham never fucks with her daughter again she learned her lesson.
