the strangest thing to me about the BSD fandom is the fact that the vast majority of people in it are dazai fans, while also consistently assuming the absolute worst of him, disregarding the circumstances around his actions and giving him no grace or consideration of his situation whatsoever.

there's no doubt dazai is a bad person in many ways. he did plenty of unjustifiable, inexcusable things. he's pathologically manipulative with a totally skewed moral compass, most of which was undoubtedly brought on by his upbringing in the mafia. but at the same time, i see such a huge number of people taking that and somehow ending up with - and vehemently defending - this idea that he's a remorseless, indifferent, innately cruel person by nature?

are we forgetting this is the same dazai who was forced to false-witness a murder at fourteen years old? the same dazai who already wracked up numerous suicide attempts barely out of his pre-teens?the same dazai who was referred to by everyone around him as a 'demon' at fifteen years old? the same dazai consistently described as having grief-filled, empty expressions and detached, vacant reactions to practically everything when he was so young? the same dazai that oda described as "a child crying in the dark, alone, left to fend for himself with a hole in his heart as large as the world itself"?

that dazai is an indifferent, heartless, innately psychopathic person? really? i'm not convinced.

it’s actually so wild to me that this fairly quirky YA type show gave both of its main characters deaths that can, in one way or another, solidly be considered hate crimes. they were both flat out murdered as a result of being A) gay and effeminate or B) brown (south asian, specifically) and you could argue whether or not those kids thought of it that way in the moment or whatever but the bottom line is that they would not have been in the situations that killed them if they weren’t of their respective minorities. like legitimately that is a ballsy choice for this kind of netflix show, let alone for the two Main Characters, and i respect it big time

kidnapping someone from the comfort their home is already bad enough. kidnapping from the comfort of their room is even worse enough. kidnapping someone from their fucking shower while they’re still naked?? ENTERING their shower?? not even having the decency to let them LEAVE the shower and enter their own room first??

i feel like some aspects of transphobia stem from jealousy, not just with plastic surgery but towards the happiness we feel as well. a lot of transphobes have horrible lives where horrible things have happened to them so when they see someone free and happy their immediate response is to hate them. they'll deny it over and over again until the end of time but transphobes really hate themselves. especially transphobic women, they seem to often feel the need to attack trans women for their appearance because they're very insecure in their own femininity. "she gets to be happy with womanhood, but why aren't i?"

well i love everything about them but i will mention a few!

they migrate pretty wild distances. some albatrosses circumnavigate the globe in a little over two months for example!! but even with species that are more close to home, manx shearwaters that breed in ireland and the UK go all the way to BRAZIL and back every year! and considering how long-lived these birds are, thinking about how many miles they must travel throughout their lives is so wild. many species can also go years without touching the ground, since it takes them a few years to reach breeding age

for albatrosses in particular, flying is no bother for them. they have this special tendon that locks their wings open so it takes no effort to hold them open. monitors have shown that their heart rate while flying is the same as when they are sitting on the ground, even while flying through storms. they can go ages without having to flap their wings because they're so good at riding the wind (known as dynamic soaring). in fact they have trouble flying in calm conditions. FURTHERMORE the tube nostrils of an albatross actually measure the exact airspeed when flying which is necessary for dynamic soaring

their sense of smell is spectacular too! it's been proven that overall birds have pretty decent sense of smell, but tubenoses are some of the best. they find their food over the open ocean by smell and actively track their prey this way! it's a reason that chum is often thrown overboard on pelagic bird trips, because the smell attracts the birds in!

they make very fucked up noises!!! i believe manx shearwaters frightened off vikings because they sounded like trolls or other beasties! cory's shearwaters sound even weirder and so do flesh-footed shearwaters. european storm petrels make a cute purring noise! bulwer's petrels sound like dogs for some reason. desertas petrels sound like ghosts. bonus fact, many female petrels and shearwaters make deeper and raspier calls, while the males sound higher pitched and clearer

also they can be really pretty!!! buller's shearwater, white-faced storm petrel, ringed storm petrel, cape petrel, blue petrel and snow petrel as some lovely examples
