There's this weird notion going around in the hazbin/helluva/viv critical tags that it is imperative that Viv's work must/should've stayed as close as possible to Christian theology. Which I very much disagree with. She has the right to portray the Seven Deadly Sins as different as she wants from people's general interpretations. (This includes the embodiment of Lust not being forceful and being pro-consent. Seriously, the amount of people who wants Lust to be some kind of sex offender and is mad that he's not portrayed that way is concerning.) She has the right to portray Hell and Heaven as these secondary Earths instead of sticking to the “original”. She has the right to depict the angels as the so-called baddies and Heaven as this puritanical oppressive society and force (though she very much falls short on this.) I've seen plenty of media that are clearly inspired by Christian theology but didn't strictly stick to it. And fuck yeah, I'll even go as far as to say that she has the right to depict demons as furries, twinks, or whatnot. (Though I agree body variety is really needed. Why the fuck are we all tumblrized Bill Cipher 2.0)

I don't really have a problem with Viv portraying her Helluvaverse world the way she wants, and too many people in the tags are way too much focused on that.

I do agree that the angels not knowing what gets people in Heaven is ??? though my thoughts on this are much more complicated and I'll probably make a future post about it.

@creepysora and I were also talking about how in all likelihood Striker wouldn't really be able to kill Alastor, because of the sheer power-difference (but, you never know... I like Viv as an artist, shes inspired me since frickin middleschool with her animations, character designs, and now 2 shows holy crap. I just really wish she'd get off social media for her own mental health cuz good god it's not great to see a whole thread of tweets arguing with someone about the dislike of fanfiction having homophobic undertones its just... agdhdh Viv is a pretty controversial person due to unfortunate past events and having shows that present some darker subject matter. Honestly? I want to see Viv not just move past the previous controversy, but learn from it to be better. Its totally fair tho if you think the handling of certain topics arent done well, there are things people will have preference over. And I dont give a fuck about shipping, I dont wanna see it, frankly. If you're doin somethin shady with it and I see it I'm certainly not going to like it and I'll do my best to not interact with you, but I think we should make tagging things just a common thing? Keeps things organized and people can intake what they want while the stuff they dont want is not being shown to them. Same goes with headcanons they're someone imagining something, they arent holding the creators hostage to make it canon. Canon is silly anyways! Both the OG and a headcanon can exist because AUs and headcanons are just another version of the thing. Headcanons arent going to change the episodes, they'll still be the same way the creators made it. So like... chill.

I just don’t like how hazbin hotel is hint that heaven is evil. Not only it a predictable cliche it also insult to actually people who believe in god. But if you want to do evil heaven just use adina from zoophobia.

I don’t think they’re hinting that it’s evil? Just complex. Just like Hell is complex.

I mean, it’s not possible for a place to be absolutely perfect. Perfect doesn’t exist! So there HAS to be something wrong with Heaven. It’s just that their intention is to give a safe place to humans after they die, which makes them the “good” place, while Hell doesn’t give a shit.

We’ve only seen one inkling of Heaven after all! If nothing else, Collin’s character shows that there are some people there who want to do good.

Also, there’s nothing wrong with predictable cliches 🤷🏽‍♀️ Hazbin and Helluva have surprised me plenty already, so I think they can have a predictable cliche or two. As a treat :)

For the people who actually believe in the Christian god…then maybe they shouldn’t watch the show? There’s been so much anime that’s done plenty worse. And likely Viv came from Christianity and it’s a critique to how it works and it effected her. I mean, that’s what I always assumed from the start and I could ALWAYS be wrong, but Christianity has done some harm with people’s psyche, especially those who are queer. Hazbin and Helluva are a way to critique that.

It’s okay if it bothers you! I don’t wanna downplay that at all. But with serialized stories, you kinda just have to wait and see how they handle things before jumping to conclusions. If that’s difficult to do, it may be best to avoid the show until it’s finished and have someone tell you how Heaven turns out, so that you can make sure it’s safe for you :)

As someone who was very curious as to how Mammon was going to be presented in Helluva Boss, you can probably imagine I was looking through the new episode very closely.

And while I may have been off the mark with my theory that Mammon would follow the trend of Asmodeus and Beelzebub and NOT actually be antagonistic, I nonetheless think it is VERY interesting how Vivzie and the team handled and presented him.

Specifically, in just how PETTY Mammon is shown to be in this episode.

Like really think about what you might generally expect from a character like Mammon just from a basic background description: He is one of the seven rulers of Hell, lord of the seven rings and embodiment of GREED. Likely a fallen angel who helped to create hell as it exists today, is matched in power only by his five fellow Sins, and is functionally only truly outranked by Lucifer himself.

And yet, Mammon’s characterization in this episode presents him as this petty, selfish, manipulative asshole interested in little more than money and attention. He acts more like a shitty, full-of-himself asshole celebrity than a demon lord. Just look at how he manipulates Fizzerolli, not through lording power and authority over him but through emotional coercion like an abusive parent, ex-, or boss, which is precisely WHAT he is presented as. fi

What makes this even more interesting is that despite Mammon being characterized as Fizz’s petty, manipulative boss, we nonetheless see him display all the POWER and experience we’d expect from one of the seven rulers of Hell. Asmodeus mentions earlier in the episode that he’s known Mammon ‘since the START of Hell’, confirming they were both involved in its creation, and when the two square off at the end, it’s clear that Mammon is very much Ozzie’s EQUAL in power, and that everyone else present is pretty much an insect in comparison.

This is what I think makes the inclusion of that one creepy, obsessive fan of Fizzerolli’s in this episode so significant; he serves as a point of comparison to Mammon.

For all the power and authority that he might wield, Mammon is characterized as being no different/better than a creepy, manipulative, entitled and obsessive stalker.

I think this might be the true common ‘thru-line’ connecting all of the seven sins through Helluva Boss and possibly even Hazbin Hotel: That despite essentially being ‘God-Emperors’ of Hell and outclassed in power likely only by the most powerful angels of Heaven itself, the seven sins are characterized in a very grounded, down-to-earth and for lack of a better term, ‘human’ way.

All the times we’ve seen them, Ozzie, Bee and Mam haven’t presented themselves as these all-powerful beings lording themselves over their subjects like we might expect or even what we’ve seen of the Goetic nobility. They don’t present themselves as ‘royalty’ but rather more like celebrity performers, which is certainly in keeping with Vivzie’s comments about how Hell is meant to represent a circus.

It really gives this fascinating dichotomy to the Sins as characters, where they’re presented as these big wacky celebrities with big, over-the-top personas which in turn hide very grounded, down-to-earth people underneath. While at the same time still being these monstrously powerful and ancient beings whose dominion over Hell is entirely uncontested.

It also gives them a nice contrast with the Goetic Nobility and the Sinner Overlords. Like those two groups actually do act and present themselves like demonic ‘royalty’ who lord themselves over those considered ‘beneath’ them, while in reality they’re at best the ‘middle-managers’, and instead it’s these wacky characters who are the TRUE masters of Hell.

It may even continue into what we might see in Hazbin Hotel, what with Charlie being this bubbly, happy-go-lucky Disney-esque princess who also may very well have power outclassing literally EVERYONE else in the show apart from her parents.

Overall, I loved this episode and I think we may now have a good idea what we might expect from the other Sins, and possibly even Lucifer himself in Hazbin Hotel.

Anything that was true, were either things from 10+ years ago, apologized for, taken out of context, or exaggerated to hell.

Edit: (nevermind, i didnt know this guy's history. my bad!) I highly recommend checking out Ayy Lmao's videos on YT regarding her controversies, as they're a neutral party & openly state when they believe Vivzie is in the wrong.

I know a lot of people on here openly hate Vivzie. So if you'd rather not follow me, I get it. But I highly recommend educating yourself to the fullest extent, instead of just believing randos who hate Vivzie & her work just for the sake of hating her.

Watching Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss initially kinda feels like comfortably walking up a set of stairs until you stub your toe on a step and violently fall all the way down again.

Because these shows are perfect to watch if you turn your mind off and just watch colours flash before your eyes, but as soon as you start to ask one simple question or just think critically about it, it all falls apart.

How do businesses even work in hell when a monetary system is never established and it's said that no one (not even the leaders or royalty) cares about rules and a working system?

If no one does care then why are classism and these relationship issues in HB even a problem?

What even happens after sinners or imps die?

If we don't know what happens why should we care about whenever they're in danger?

Why should we care about the exterminations?

Why are there prisons and therapy centers in hell when it would be more efficient for the Sins if they'd just kill demons that piss them off?

Why aren't these demons just killed when apparently no one would care?

If Stolas would be in trouble for giving the grimoire to an imp, how can the I.M.P's just advertise their services out to the public like that?

And why has their business model even worked for them so far, when the people they kill can just get to them in hell?

Can every sinner make a contract with everyone?

If so, then why can't Charlie just make a new contract with Angel Dust that makes the one he has with Valentino useless?

Why does Charlie genuinely never do anything to actually help her people out?

Why does she desperately want to stop the exterminations but never does anything when Alastor kills so many demons?

Why should we give a shit about demons being murdered when so far only a few demons actually tried to be better and the ones that don't try to change are shown to be the worst people ever?

How did Vaggie not know angels could be harmed when she literally lost her eye and her wings to an angelic weapon?

(I'm not counting explanations that weren't in the show, one shouldn't have to look up additional material to understand whats going on)

A show having a plothole doesn't necessarily make it bad. But Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel have so many inconsistencies not only regarding worldbuilding but also characters. These may seem like small issues but they all pile up to create shows with terrible logic. It's not good writing when a show can't withstand one point of criticism without opening up to a ton of other, even more destructive issues.

~Stolas loves to comb his fingers through your hair. He may be rough in bed, but he's very delicate when it comes to after. He'll rub his hand up and down your back while whispering how much he loves you.

~He's a very affectionate demon, be prepared to fall asleep curled up next to him. He makes soft little nosies in his sleep, nothing loud, just little coo's and hums here and there as he dreams. He won't stay still during the night, so don't be surprised if you wake up to no blanket with him on the floor.

~He can get pretty clingy sometimes. Between his arranged marriage with Stella and his monthly meetings with Blitzø he's not used to having someone genuinely care for him. This usually leads to him getting pretty jealous. If someone tries to flirt with you, he'll stand up a little taller or ruffle his feathers a bit. His tail swishing low behind him in quick movements.

~He won't introduce you to Octavia immediately. His worst fear is Via not liking you. Of course, it's all in his head because you two get along like a house on fire. You even hang out with her without Stolas every now and again. She likes to go to the mall with you and grab something to eat while checking out all the new clothes from stylish occult.

~Stella won't even look at you, especially if you're from a lower class. Stolas tries to deal with Stella's nonsense on the phone, and if he has to meet with her in person for any reason, he makes sure you're not around. He couldn't care less what Stella says about him, but he wouldn't be able to control himself if she said something about you to your face. So he'd rather avoid that by keeping you two as far away from each other as possible.

~He loves to spoil you with his wealth. Any excuse to pamper you he immediately takes. He'd show up to your door with a giant bouquet of flowers ready to treat you to the nicest date you've ever been on. Nothing is to fancy when it comes to his sweetheart.
