Y/n L/n is rarely seen walking the streets in public anymore, but that is changing following her recent breakup  from longtime love Charles Leclerc.

The 12-time Grammy winner was spotted out and about in Rome just one day after her release of her new single, Reckless, which reflects on her past relationship with the formula 1 driver.

L/n was joined by celebs friends Zendaya, Tom Holland, Sabrina Carpenter, Bella Hadid, and Alexa Demie for a night out at Shari Vari Play House in Vía de' Nari, Italy. 

The news of her breakup sent shockwaves on social media. Tweets and memes were made, with fans expressing their disbelief and grief

Rumors had already spread that Leclerc was seeing someone else the last few months of thosr relationship. L/n just made those rumors  official last night as she delivered a tribute to  Leclerc and his new girlfriend Australian Youtuber Lola Ransdell, sending the media to a frenzy. 

The “Karma” hitmaker opted for a dress from Mônot’s SS22 collection, a black dress with cutouts across the chest and stomach, leaving little fabric between L/n’s collarbone and lower waist.

People on twitter are already calling this “Y/n L/n’s Revenge Dress Era” .

L/n kicked off her sold-out Eras Tour on March 17, and eagle-eyed fans noticed that Leclerc had been absent from her shows.

In case you're unfamiliar with the lore of YourShipName (portmanteau and couple name of L/n and Leclerc), you probably don't understand the distress caused by the news. For most, Leclerc is not even a household name, but for YourFandomsName, he's the titular Lover.

The Midnights singer and  f1 driver started dating in 2016. Fans speculate they met at the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix based on the lyrics of Reputation cut "Dress": "Flashback to when you met me / Your buzzcut and my hair bleached." Because, you guessed it, Leclerc sported a buzzcut and L/n’s hair was bleached.

At a secret session for Reputation, Leclerc reportedly told fans that the single "Gorgeous" was about her "angel boyfriend of one year." Other tracks off of Reputation like “Delicate," "Call It What You Want," and "King Of My Heart" are also thought to be about Leclerc.

Her next album, Lover, is also understood to be about Leclerc with songs like "Paper Rings," "Cornelia Street," "Daylight," and the titular "Lover."

During quarantine the couple started collaborating creatively. Leclerc surpassed his muse status and co-wrote Folklore tracks "Exile" and "Betty,"

 Evermore songs "Champagne Problems" and "Coney Island, and most recently, "Sweet Nothing" off Midnights. Other tracks on her most recent three albums canonically about Leclerc include: "Invisible String" and "Peace."

While they opted to remain very private about their romance, the couple was hit with a slew of engagement rumors throughout the course of their ill-fated romance.

"I'm aware people want to know about that side of things," Leclerc told GQ in 2018. "I think we have been successfully very private and that has now sunk in for people."

L/n briefly touched on the privacy aspect of their relationship in her 2020 documentary, "Miss Americana."

"We decided together we wanted our relationship to be private," she said. "Even though [my public image in 2016] was really horrible, I was happy."

"But I wasn't happy in the way I was trained to be happy. It was happiness without anyone else's input. We were just... happy," the singer added.

The "Lavender Haze" songstress' exes famously include Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Pattinson, Fabian Frankel, Ben Barnes, Harry Styles, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Yes, I saw that tweet, in answer to Tash (who graciously took the fan pic (which was actually a screenshot from a video) from my blog without any credit to where she found it or who's pic it actually was #justsaying)

I've silently watched the posts and the 'jumping to conclusions' yesterday (after I took the day to enjoy some sunshine and much needed vitamine D after all the rainy and dark days we had)

I looked things up, and at the same time enjoyed seeing the Dutch team NL being successful in Glasgow, which was a lot more fun to watch than all the shenanigans and narratives.

Anyway, here is what I saw and what I take into account on the different rumors:

The rules book and the terms and regulations show that a participant can change his/her registration up to one week before the event

From the Terms and Conditions:

So yes, you can change the participant, but it should be no later than a week before the event, and no gender change.

As we found Sam's registration on 28 February in his name, no change could be done anymore. And we've all seen how the results have been posted in his name last Saturday.

So I informed myself by talking to people more familiar with rules and conditions for these sort of sports events, particular asked if it is allowed to let someone else compete in your name and slot. What I was told is with marathons it sometimes happens, but it's not really preferable as for the one who actually completes the race the result wouldn't show up on their record. Also took into account that for the Hyrox events, en overall ranking is kept in the records on someones name.

Another look at the rules and terms told me that upon check-in on the day of the event, a participant has to show his/her ID and registration confirmation

And you receive an timing chip and a wrist band for your start wave and category

So do I rule out he gave his slot and registration to someone else, and why didn't he post any pics, or was seen in any of the EDA guys who also were there (and tagged him)?

No I don't rule it out. In fact it might be an explanation (other than the ones trying so hard to make more of his connection to Sarah) why he was there and early on before his start wave. I keep the options open for now, and one of them is simply he could have gone there to ask the organization if they'd allow to let someone else compete on his slot. They might have agreed, though it would not be possible to make these changes online. Perhaps it's possible they show up later as changes, we've to wait and see. I mean, if he decided the day his condition wasn't good enough due to jetlag and one of his friends would like to compete instead of him, he surely would like to consult the organization and not bring his registration in jeopardy as it could bring him a penalty or even a ban from the events.

Sure, for people in the back, he stayed there and watch the races of other friends (Yes, there were friends from EDA who had their race earlier that day), including Sarah's. Though I do not think it was his voice in the video contrary to other opportunists. To me didn't sound like his accent. (but believe what you want).

More convincing to me is, he didn't hide his presence, took fan pics, and we've seen him in a video as well. No didn't look like he was in Sarah's section or solely there to support her. He's tagged in most of his friends footage they posted from the event. Valbo, Big Red, Tommy (who didn't compete but probably there as a spectator as well) and Valbo even tagged Big Red's and Tommy's wives. None of them tagged Sarah though, and Sarah followed none of them (something she would most certainly do when meeting them, she doesn't even follow Valbo). (let me just remind you the big deal people made of it how KE was followed by friends of Sam!)

Also, what this 'other blogger' doesn't tell you is the video Sarah posted, on her way to Hyrox Sunday in her car 14 miles from the venue as she competed in another race on Sunday. So romantici thinking about what or where she was on Saturday night, go figure... (people in the back his home isn't 14 miles from the venue) Nope, I already told you after (or during) GC, their mutual interest is fitness and both training apparently for Hyrox. And that is exactly what was shown Saturday, no more no less.

I feel disgusted though reading how this 'other blogger' is 'vetting' her source for her info on a romantic love story she wants to spin, who always miraculously turn up in her DMs after I posted the info (where were they before).... Oh yes she'll say I'm gnashing my teeth and am jealous... gosh if she only knew the real stories, I know who would be jealous. I'm just keeping a little more integrity and don't throw women under the bus like that. Even if I could so easily debunk her whole romantic notebook. But well, not necessary as it will debunk itself as usual.

The joke is on her, I wonder if anybody would have noticed him in the video during her race... or even the info about the villa they stayed in in GC, not to mention I'm quite sure she wouldn't have found it nor her minions (oops sorry 'team') who all so generously report to her what I post... I know where I find my info, where it comes from and what is true or not. I sometimes wonder what would be found if I don't post the reality out there to use as a base for all kind of narratives (on all sides tbh)

Right, Käärijä gig:

- first of all the venue, Trix: I like the staggered floor, gives plenty of visibility near the back too. Like 013 or Doornroosje in NL in that regard. Similar size too, I love a good mid-sized venue. However, the times for the doors and opening act were weird. Why does the opening act start right when the doors open? They're starting with no one in the venue?

- the opening act, Wørtaal was great btw. Hardstyle's not my genre but they had some fun remixes and mixing in violin for some was really interesting.

- the crowd was great, lot's of chanting his name, a lot of singing along. Käärijä mentioned a few times how crazy we were and how he couldn't believe having this crowd here. Shout out to the person next to me knowing legit every single word to every song. You looked as cool as you are. Also shout out to the couple folks taking their shirts off for Paidaton Riehuja!

- I would've loved to have heard Fantastista but allas. Setlist was still great!

- Käärijä mentioned he was a bit sad the day before but he was so happy to be there and said he was happy again because of us.

- why'd he rip that fan's shirt? No clue, but he made fun of Belgian people buying something new and immediately breaking it. Also said he'd use it, then give it back. Making a joke a joke about how the fan could smell it later at home iykyk. That's where the whole Bojan shirt story thing came in.

- Häärijä was so funny, the 3 Daltons were too omg. Käärijä told Häärijä to say something as he opened a pack of Pokemon cards and the whole crowd started chanting Häärijä

- the little talks about everyone in the crowd being family, about it being a 'safety' space and to not fight or touch people unwanted and to give a yell if something happened so they could come help. To go out and follow your dreams and be your best.

- Käärijä is legit so fucking good live. Energy unmatched. Well, Emelia from the crowd matched it pretty well but still.

Final note I saw a lot of fans not wearing any hearing protection and one of the insta stories Käärijä shared also mentioned her ears hurting. Please, if you like live music at all, get hearing protection. Don't mess around with that stuff. Most venues nowadays sell hearing protection at the counter. Personally I use Loops which I like. Seriously, protect your hearing.

The Fight (3.2k words) - part 1

The thing is, you didn’t expect it to be this hard when it started. Looking back though, you should've seen it coming.

It had already been five months since you started dating Carlos and the five months felt both like five minutes and five years. It was crazy how fast time had passed since you had met him and although five months wasn’t that long, you really did feel like you had known him for forever. The memory of you two meeting still made you both laugh because of how random it had been. 

You had been visiting Singapore with some of your friends, around the same time as the Singapore GP, and sure you knew a bit about F1 but not much apart from the basics. You had followed the sport a bit with your dad when you were younger, so you were pretty familiar with the classic names of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, but you had no clue about any of the new and younger drivers. 

The only thing you knew now about F1 was that it was driving you crazy. Every single area in Singapore was crowded, from clubs, to touristy destinations, to restaurants. You had scattered around the city trying your best to get some peace and quiet but the flood of F1 fans practically made it impossible. It’s not like you didn’t want them having fun, but it was frustrating you that it was at the expense of your own vacation. 

To top it all off, it had been rumored that several of the drivers were staying at your hotel which made it practically impossible to get in without being tagged as a fan trying to crash the hotel. 

You quietly waited for the elevator, crossing your arms over your chest as you looked at the numbers slowly switching. You were tired and frustrated, having had to argue with the security once again, trying to remind him that you had been staying in the hotel a good two days before the F1 drivers had arrived. Your friends had decided to go out to a club that evening but you were too tired to tag along so there you were, ready to go to bed and sleep in the next morning. 

You hear footsteps coming towards you, assuming that another guest was trying to get to their room too so you give them a quick smile before looking back at the elevator doors. You don’t even realize how frustrated you look with your arms crossed against your chest and your foot gently tapping the floor. You only snap out of it when you hear the stranger speak up. 

“Rough day?” He asks, and you can’t help but give him a brief glance, seeing that he was by himself. You also don’t miss that he was kind of attractive. He had big doe eyes and thick lips along with a nice stubble. 

“Do I look that annoyed?” You ask him, and you notice the slight concern in his eyes and you can’t help but let out a light hearted laugh. “It’s really not that deep,” You say, shaking your head. “This whole Formula One thing has just been a bit of a nuisance.” You explain, taking another glance at him. 

You look over at him a bit and notice that he is wearing gym attire from top to bottom and  a backward facing cap on his head to hide his hair. “Sorry, are you a fan? Like are you here for the race?” You ask and there is a clear apologetic look on your face.

This makes the stranger laugh and you can’t help but furrow your brows. “Yeah- You could say I am here for the race, but don’t worry, I get what you mean. It’s a bit too much sometimes, yeah?” He chuckles just as the elevator door rings. You nod along as you both go inside and you follow along with the conversation when he asks you for any recommendations. 

And that’s how you had met Carlos. You had ranted to him all the way up the elevator, and he had listened and nodded, still wearing an amused smile on his face. “Trust me I like Formula One, I get it, it's fun, but I wanted to enjoy my holiday without a crowd.” You remember telling him and the poor guy had just nodded along. It was only the next day when you were leaving with your friends for brunch that you had spotted him again, still no clue of his name. 

He was wearing a red shirt- or what looked like a jersey, black pants, and he was sporting the same cap as the night before, this time facing forward. The black horse with the yellow emblem with the logo being clear as daylight. As soon as he spotted you he walked over, giving you a small wave. 

You look over his outfit the closer he gets and your eyes slightly drift to the people he was with and although you first thought they were fans it was loud and clear that it was a team. By the time he comes up to you you’re flushed red, completely embarrassed. 

“Why didn’t you tell me you worked for the team? I am so sorry. Oh my god.” You blurt out as soon as he’s near enough and the cackle he lets out only makes your face burn more.

“Hey, I told you I came for the race. It’s not my fault you didn’t ask if I was racing or not,” He says with a grin before looking over at your friends and giving them a smile. 

“Excuse me? You’re racing?” You ask already covering your face. “I am so sorry, seriously. It’s cool that you do all of this.” You try your best to cover up. From your conversation from the night before you were sure he wasn’t offended but what he says next completely takes you by surprise. 

“I mean, you could make it up to me by giving me your number?” He offers with a smile. His tongue is poking out slightly between his lips and you find yourself blushing for a completely different reason. He’s taking out his phone to hand it to you, tongue swiping over his bottom lip. You look at him stunned before your eyes drop to his phone. “I need to give F1 a better rep, you know?” He says before moving his phone closer to you. You take his phone before putting your number in before the others are calling for him and before you properly catch his name he is already running off.

You had chatted a bit the first few months but because of Carlos’ schedule you both did not get to properly start seeing each other until the end of the season. But here you were, seven months later and you both had been properly together for almost five months. The Christmas holiday and pre-season was easy, both of you managing to find time with each other. Luckily you were also living in Spain, having secured a job there a little over a year ago, and it was a dream really. You both indulged in each other’s time and got to know each other quite well. It was all perfect until the next season had started. 

It was fine at first, the first few races were fun, and it was thrilling to see your boyfriend on TV, but after the first few races you realized the excitement of seeing him on TV stopped outweighing the slight pang in your chest from him not being next to you. 

The tension had been building the first few races of the season, and you both knew it. Carlos was starting to get stressed, it was his second year in Ferrari and the pressure had grown tenfold. You tried your best to also be there for him, but as the season progressed you were beginning to feel like every single race was pushing you guys another step further from each other. 

Carlos had just ended his streak of finished races, DNFing in Australia, and as hard as you tried to be there to support him there was only so much you could do through the phone. You kept on telling yourself that it was going to be okay though, you were going to see him for the next race. After some heavy planning and insisting, your manager had finally given you a green light. You had contacted Charles for some help, wanting to surprise your boyfriend and luckily the Monegasque driver had sent you a thumbs up with the photo of your printed out lanyard. 

You had arrived at the hotel the Thursday night, tired but excited to see Carlos after not seeing him for a little over a month. The lanyard was hanging over your neck, Charles having snuck to the lobby to hand it to you. You knock the door nervously, holding the handle of your luggage. There is a faint sound of shuffling before the door opens and you smile widely once you see Carlos. He looks tired and sleepy, his feathery hair fuzzed out, your heart grows two sizes at the sight of him. 

“Surprise,” You say softly with a smile, looking over his face for a reaction. His eyes widen for a bit before a smile is pulling at his lips.

“No way. What?” He asks before he’s pulling you into a hug. You tuck your head easily under his chin. You wrap your arm around his waist and nuzzle your face into his chest. “What are you doing here?” Carlos asks, slowly pulling away to look at you. He barely gives you a moment to look at him before he’s kissing you. 

“God, I did not expect to see you,” He breathes out, beginning to pull you in the room. You drag your luggage in with you, letting go of it only once you’re inside. Carlos shuts the door before he is kissing you again, this time trailing kisses down your neck. You let out a soft sigh, holding onto his arms. 

“Wanted to surprise you,” You say softly, smiling once Carlos pulls away. He gently squeezes your waist before pecking your lips again. 

“Well you did,” He says smiling. For a moment you thought everything was fine, but the rest of the weekend proved otherwise. 

Friday was rough. You were excited that your first race weekend watching Carlos in person followed the sprint format, you were going to watch him in two races over the weekend and you honestly could not wait to see him drive his heart out. You lingered around for a bit around the paddock in the morning, getting to meet a few other drivers and their girlfriends, and it was nice. Practice was intense, and although Carlos did not top the chart your heart still swole to see him up there. 

Qualifying was a different story though, you could feel the tension to a point where it was almost nauseating and you could feel your own nerves crawl up your throat. Q1 looked good, and Q2 was looking promising. Up until you saw a yellow flag flashing across the screen and the team in the garage groan. The moment you realized Carlos had crashed you felt your heart sink. It was clear that he was okay, but you already knew he had been stressed from the previous race. You nervously pinched your bottom lip, stopping yourself from wanting to just walk to the track to go to Carlos yourself no matter how long it would take. 

Instead you waited patiently, standing in the back of the garage as the screen flashed Carlos getting out of the car. You let out a deep breath, deciding to calm yourself down before Carlos saw you. 

When he came back to the garage you let out a breath of relief, just glad to be able to see him. You wait for him to go around the garage, apologizing to the team. Once he had done a round around the garage you see him walk towards you. You give him a small smile, ready to go for a hug but his words practically push you back. 

“You should head back to the hotel yeah?” He asks, not even looking you in the eye. You frown at this and shake your head. 

“No it’s fine, I can stay.” You say, knowing that he probably would have a long debrief that evening. “I don’t mind.” You promise, but you’re met with a cold response.

“Just head back yeah?” He says before he’s turning his back to you to go to the pitwall. You chew the inside of your cheek, watching him walk off. The last thing you wanted was to make a scene in front of his team. 

Call it stubborn but you wait until qualifying is over, you loiter around the garage, and then wait in the hospitality room. You don’t mind really, you just wanted to be there for Carlos. You hadn’t seen him since he had headed to the meeting room to talk, and five hours later you catch him walking with the rest of the team to another room. You give him a soft smile before resting your chin on your hand. 

It’s almost a whole five minutes later when you get a text. 

‘Go to the hotel y/n. I’ll see you there.’ 

That time you chose to listen. 

You fall asleep before Carlos gets back, both physically and emotionally exhausted from the day so the next time you talk to Carlos is when you’re both up to get ready to go for free practice 2 and the sprint race. 

The car ride is a bit silent again and you rest your head against the window as you watch the cars pass by. “How are you feeling about the qualifying?” You ask after a bit, finally mustering the courage to ask for it. 

Carlos shrugs a bit, fixing his sunglasses. “It happened, it was a mistake but it’s okay, we have the sprint to fix it.” Carlos says and you give him a small smile. 

“Yeah, yeah. I can’t wait to see you drive today. It’s not a full race but its the first time I’ll see you race in person.” You smile. Carlos glances over you with a smile before reaching to give your knee a squeeze. 

“I’m glad you’re here.” He promises. 

The spint makes things better. Carlos manages to climb up from P10 to P4 and the moment he comes back to the garage you are engulfed in a tight hug. 

“That was amazing!” You say, smiling from ear to ear. He lets out a soft laugh.

“Could do better but I will definitely be taking P4. after yesterday” He chuckles before giving you a quick peck. 

The evening is a bit nicer this time, you decide to go to the hotel first, a bit grateful that Carlos had given you a rough estimate of when he was going to get back. You wait for him, ready to order room service but when he arrives he’s holding a bag of take out for you along with his own meal prep. 

You both talked over dinner, and although today was better there was a little voice in the back of your head, nagging a bit about the night before, but you decided to bite your tongue back. That was a problem for another day. Unfortunately though, Sunday decided otherwise. 

One thing was to see Carlos crash during Q2, but another thing was to see him end a race before it even started. When you spotted Carlos’ and Daniel’s collision you physically had to hold back a scream, balling up your fist in frustration. By the time Carlos got into the garage the tension was airtight. Nobody thought it was Carlos’ fault, but that didn’t mean the frustration wasn’t there. 

“Just go home,”  Carlos murmurs once he gets to you, after making his second round of apologies that weekend. You look over at him and shake your head. 

“I don’t mind waiting here today. I have nothing to do in the hotel anyways Carlos,” You say, squeezing his hand. “It’s okay,” You say but Carlos is soon pulling his hand away. 

“I don’t mean the hotel. I mean you can go home if you want to.” Carlos says and your face instantly falls. 

“What?” You ask and he’s walking to the back to his driver's room and you follow behind him. “Why would you even offer that?” You ask, shutting the door behind you once you’re both inside. 

“Look, I just, I think you should go home. It doesn’t make sense for you to stay.” Carlos says, looking at his hands.

“Why wouldn’t it make sense for me to stay? I want to be there for you Carlos.” You say, looking over him incredulously. “That’s the whole reason I’m here, I want to support you.” You’re trying to find his eyes but he can’t bring himself to look at you. 

“I don’t need your support y/n. I’m fine.” He says and you know it’s his emotions talking but the words sink into your chest. 

“But we still had our plan for tomorrow and Tuesday still, Charles told me he booked you for those days so I could have some extra time for the race.” You murmur. 

“I don’t have time for that y/n. I need to train and work on the car and talk to engineers. We need to prepare for Miami.” He says, slowly unzipping his suit. 

“Carlos, Miami is in 2 weeks. I know you’re upset but you don’t need to be unreasonable.” You say, starting to feel frustrated. You had tried your best to meet Carlos half way the whole weekend but at this point it felt like you were grasping at straws. 

“I’m not upset y/n. I told you I’m fine.” He says, back facing you. 

“You’ve been upset since Australia. I have been trying to seriously talk to you about this. You barely tell me anything through the phone and I was hoping being here in person would help you open up. Carlos, you need to tell me how you’re feeling. How many times do I need to tell you this?” You ask, finally getting some edge in your voice. The frustration had been building for weeks from all the worrying you had done and you were sick of holding it back. 

“How many times do I need to tell you y/n. I’m fine.” He says and his back is still facing you, and you never thought you would hate seeing the number 55 in front of your face ever. 

“Then look at me when you say that.” You snap. There’s a lull of silence and you go to say something but Carlos cuts you off before you can.

“I didn’t ask you to come here for the race.” He says and this time the words cut a whole through your chest. 

“Seriously?” You murmur, still only facing his back. You give him time to answer and every second only makes the hole in your chest bigger. 

He finally turns around after what feels like hours, giving you a nod.

“I need to go to the pitwall.” He says, and if there is regret on his face you can’t see it since he’s already walking past you and opening the door. You feel tears well up in your eyes and you can’t bring yourself to turn around. 

By the time he gets back to the hotel the only thing left there is his suitcase and your lanyard hanging on the coat rack.

Ex-NIGHTWISH Members TARJA TURUNEN And MARKO HIETALA Announce September 2024 European Tour

Following a triumphant series of performances in South America with several sold-out gigs where Marko Hietala joined Tarja Turunen as a special guest, the two former NIGHTWISH members are set to captivate European audiences with their enthralling collaboration.

The European trek, which will kick off in September in Germany, promises to be an unforgettable experience as these two familiar voices reunite on stage once again.

Tarja recently released her first greatest-hits album "Best Of Tarja - Living The Dream". Her live show will feature a selection of songs from her career, also found on "Best Of", including fan favorites and her own personal picks.

Adding to the excitement, Marko and Tarja recently collaborated on the duet single "Left On Mars", which received widespread acclaim.

Marko will perform his own songs with his band before joining Tarja on stage for a night that promises to be nothing short of memorable.

Expectations are high as the duo continues to delight fans with both old and new songs, building on the success of their South American tour.

Earlier this month, Hietala was asked by El Planeta Del Rock if there is any chance of him and Turunen launching a new project together. He responded: "I won't close that option off. We haven't talked about it, putting up a group together or anything like that. But at the moment, it seems that we've got a different kind of connection than it was [in the] past. Because then the camps were really divided already when I stepped into [NIGHTWISH]. And it was hard to find the truth of things, because a lot of it was like a managerial turf war where we got told certain things by one side and told certain things by the other side and lots of confusion — blah, blah, blah — and in the end, yeah, what we already realized a few years back when we were all together there doing the Christmas shows in Finland that after all the hassle has died and the noise has died and everything, you still find out that you lost a friend. And that was the main [reason] why we are basically doing this together again."

In a recent interview with Thiago Rahal Mauro of Brazil's Metal Musikast, Tarja spoke about what it was like to team up with Marko to perform a cover of "The Phantom Of The Opera" during their special open-air concert in July 2023 at Z7 Summer Nights in Pratteln, Switzerland. Tarja and Marko both played individual sets at the event, with their rendition of the main theme from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical coming during Turunen's portion of the show.

"I got a call from a promoter to take part in one festival in Switzerland last year in a European summertime in July," Tarja said. "And then I got to know, when I had accepted to be the artist of the evening, then I saw that they had also invited Marko and Marko's band to perform in the same festival. So I thought, 'Hmm.' And I was actually sending a message that I wished to reach Marko, because I didn't have his contact any longer, to ask him to perform with me 'The Phantom Of The Opera' in my show. And he responded 'yes.' So, after 18 years [laughs], we were about to sing the song together. And it was super exciting. It was really beautiful. The people got very emotional about this.

"We had met already before — we had been singing on a few occasions in Finland a few years before — so we kind of cleaned the table on that occasion already," she explained. "So we were in good terms, so to say, but now singing 'The Phantom Of The Opera' together after all these years was amazing."

Tarja also elaborated on her friendship with Marko, saying: "It's a new relationship with him, because he's not the same person anymore than he was in the band. He has changed a lot, and many years have passed by. I've changed myself. Life has changed us. So it is a new relationship, let's say. And it had made me very happy to get to know him better after all these years."

Last November, Tarja admitted to Chaoszine that she was "nervous" before performing "The Phantom Of The Opera" with Marko at Z7 Summer Nights. "I believe that he was nervous as well to meet up with me, but we were both very excited to go back to the stage and to sing the song," she said. "We sang 'Phantom Of The Opera' in Switzerland for the first time. Then we went over to Finland to perform it again, did a show together there — he with his band and me with my own. Wow. It was pure emotion. I think it was really beautiful, but it made me kind of… I was, like, 'I'm in peace,' sort of. The feeling was great. I think it was even more for Marko, because I saw him standing there after my concert, when I finished my set, and he came like almost in tears, saying that this was important. We reconnected, and it's great."

Turunen was fired from NIGHTWISH at the end of the band's 2005 tour by being presented with an open letter which was published on the NIGHTWISH web site at the same time. In the letter, the other members of NIGHTWISH wrote: "To you, unfortunately, business, money, and things that have nothing to do with emotions have become much more important."

NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen later called the decision to part ways with Turunen "the most difficult thing I ever had to do." For her part, Tarja said the way she was kicked out of the group proved that her former bandmates were not her friends. "Maybe one day I'll forgive, but I will never forget," she said.

In 2019, Turunen dismissed Internet chatter about her possible return to NIGHTWISH after her December 2017 onstage reunion with the band's then-bassist/vocalist Hietala during a "Raskasta Joulua" concert in Hämeenlinna, Finland.

"I know a lot of fans would love to see something happen, but it's a very long distance away," she told Kerrang! magazine. "Personally, I don't see anything happening with me and them, to be perfectly honest. Marko came a little later into the band; he wasn't there since the beginning. He was always a guy I was close to. Me and Tuomas Holopainen, however, haven't seen each other in a long time… but we have been in touch. It's not bad. The past is what it is; we can't change that. We can only change the future."

NIGHTWISH's authorized biography, "Once Upon a Nightwish: The Official Biography 1996-2006", was published in Finnish in 2006 and in English three years later.

Turunen's husband, Marcelo Cabuli, and his business partners later sued the parties behind the book for defamation. Named in the lawsuit were the publishing house Like Kustannus Oy and the author of the book, Marko "Mape" Ollila. Cabuli and his Brazilian business partners argued that the book includes false accusations and insinuations that have caused them suffering and financial problems.

The book blamed Cabuli for the events leading up to Turunen's dramatic expulsion from the band in late 2005.

In 2011, the Helsinki District Court dismissed Cabuli's lawsuit, ruling that the book — which criticized Cabuli on only a few of its 380 pages — did not detrimentally affect his work or reputation in South America. In addition, the court determined that Ollila did not maliciously portray Cabuli in a negative light.

Nearly two years ago, Tarja was asked in an interview with Top Link Music manager and concert promoter Paulo Baron and music critic Regis Tadeu if she would consider doing a tour with NIGHTWISH if all of her former bandmates apologized to her about how their split happened and invited her to share the stage with them again. She responded: "It is very, very hypothetical that all what you said will happen, first of all — it's very, very hypothetical.

"I'm living in a world, like we are all living in a world, that things happen without us noticing," she continued. "I mean, I can't really close any doors in that sense; I'm not that kind of person any longer. I learned so many things in this life already. I take them as they are.

"So I don't know. It would be very hypothetically possible," she added. "It would be unlikely to happen."

Hietala announced his departure from NIGHTWISH in January 2021, explaining in a statement that he hadn't "been able to feel validated by this life for a quite a few years now." He has since been replaced by session bassist Jukka Koskinen (WINTERSUN),who made his live debut with NIGHTWISH in May 2021 at the band's two interactive experiences.

In an August 2022 interview with Finland's Chaoszine, Hietala revealed that he went through a dark period in his life, which included depression, insomnia, anxiety and an eventual attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis. Speaking about how he eventually came to the realization that exiting NIGHTWISH was the right thing to do, Marko said: "It was a long process. Of course, the COVID year that was there, where I had a lot of time for soul searching, it obviously gave me the last incentive that I need something else, that if I just continue with this I'm just gonna get sicker and sicker. But, of course, it's a process.

"I've been chronic depressive since 2010 [or] 2011, so I've been on a permanent medication ever since," he revealed. "Sometimes you get used to the meds [and] you will need more. We did raise [the dosage] during the years also, but it just didn't work. And now that I started to do… I had psychotherapy for over four years now, and then I also talked to psychiatrists and some doctors and did that also in Spain. Then my psychiatrist here in Finland said that I should do these ADHD neuropsychological tests, which I then did in Spain. And, okay, I got it."

Hietala reiterated that he "had been thinking about" leaving NIGHTWISH "for a while" before making the final decision. "Because I had a lot of weight. And I tend to… With the attention disorder, it tells me that when there are lots of trouble, then the disorder makes it into a real chaos," he explained. "There's a shitload of stuff coming and going and no peace anywhere. And for a year or two, I was already waking up every night at three o'clock to bad dreams and anxiety. So I'd say that the whole process probably started already with my former divorce [in 2016]. That was a very sad time when you think about your kids and your broken homes and all that. And then, when I started to get clear from that, then there were, well, all kinds of things. I don't really wanna go any deeper to what kind of things I'd gone through, but I'd gone through enough."

Acknowledging that making NIGHTWISH's latest studio album, 2020's "Human. :II: Nature.", was a "difficult" experience for him, Marko denied that his mental state at the time resulted in a diminished role for him on the final LP. "I think the original idea was to have that… we'll do a couple of [solo vocal appearances], or one solo for me and Troy [Donockley], and the rest Floor [Jansen], and then the harmonies; that was the idea originally for that," he said. "So I don't know if it affected. I think it was sort of as planned. But at that time I already had serious trouble with concentrating and serious trouble with a constant black cloud over my head."

In July 2022, Hietala told Finland's Iltalehti that he had not kept in touch with NIGHTWISH since his departure or followed the activities of his former band.

In May 2021, Holopainen said that Hietala's decision to leave NIGHTWISH "came as a bit of a surprise." He told Finland's Kaaos TV: "Marko informed us in December [of 2020 that he was leaving the band]. And even though he has been very open about his state and problems during the past years, it still came as a bit of a surprise for us. So it was a really tough pill to swallow. And for a few days, I was actually quite confident that there's no coming back, that this is it. I remember talking to Emppu [Vuorinen], the guitar player, and we were, like, 'You think this is it?' 'Yeah, I think this is it.' I mean, enough is enough. So much has happened in the past. Something that broke the camel's back, as they say. Then, after some time had passed — a few days — we started to think that it's been such a ride of 25 years, with so many ups also, that this is not the way to end it."

Tuomas elaborated on NIGHTWISH's reasons for carrying on, saying: "I think we still have something to give, and that's the main point. The music is still there. We felt that there's still so much music that needs to come out from this band that, 'Okay, let's give it one more shot.' And then finding the new bass player was really easy."

He added: "It's not like we do this just because we need to do it and there's nothing else to do. On a personal level, I feel that there's still so many stories and melodies that I want to share with the world with one lineup or another, so that's why you want to continue and keep on going.

"I've said this a million times, that a lineup change is the ultimate energy vampire, and that's how it really felt and still feels."

In June 2021, Jansen spoke about Hietala's exit from the band in an episode of her "Storytime" YouTube video series. She said: "That was a very sudden surprise that, of course, was not fun at all. But we understand — I understand — it was a necessary thing for him to do. And from there, we had to think of how to continue without him, and that also, in preparations towards the virtual show, that was a huge challenge."

In December 2020, Hietala was crowned the winner of the fall 2020 season of "Masked Singer Suomi" — the Finnish edition of the popular masked singing contest. He was disguised as Tohtori — the Doctor.

Hi , i see you always posting news and stuff about every team amd i’m new to hockey and want to know more about the sport and the teams so do you know how could i do that or what should i watch?? ^^

Hi there anon!!! Nice to meet you :) I'd love to impart a little wisdom on you!

Unfortunately, you're going to have to be a little more specific here.

Are you primarily interested in the NHL? (Or do you want to follow minor leagues in the Americas such as the AHL, or the major junior leagues such as the CHL or USHL, or would you prefer European hockey leagues like the Swiss NL, German DEL, or Russian KHL?)

Do you want to follow one team extremely closely or have several favorites you track? (Like personally, I specialize in Devils hockey and can tell you way too much about it, but I track most of the teams of the NHL to some extent so I can analyze and discuss them if prompted to. Some people only really care about one team; others choose to enjoy one team from each division, for example, so as to always be rooting for someone.)

Do you prefer the analytical side of hockey or would you rather follow the narratives? (Cap structures, rulebooks, drafts, and all that can get quite complex but they're super rewarding - at least for me personally. Other fans choose not to worry too much about the analytics and prefer just to watch the games and enjoy the narratives of teams.)

Personally, I picked up a TON of knowledge from my Discord friend groups. TheBrattPack, noted Devils Twitter user, has a Discord server and it was a MAJOR reason I fell so in love with hockey. Great people, great atmosphere. Another Discord server I really like is the Reddit Panthers server - I don't know its invite status, but a Cats friend shot me the link because one of the people there livestreams the games a solid 90 seconds before my high seas sites. Really nice and welcoming community as well.

Another place to learn hockey is YouTube. Steve Dangle, who recently left SportsNet, is one of my personal favorites - his Dang-Its and Hat-Picks videos are really good to show you some of the things considered Really Bad and Really Good. He also has LFR (Leafs Fan Reaction) where he goes over every Leafs game and points out highlights and lowlights. There's also The Hockey Guy (Shannon) who talks about everything NHL - he is really strong breadthwise to learn about many teams and their strengths (and he does videos for every game), but depthwise you might want to look at other sources. If you want funny, try UrinatingTree's NHL videos - his commentary is hysterical.

Even here on Tumblr, though, there are a couple of super informative blogs. I'd like to think I'm one of them, and you can always drop in my inbox with questions! No question is "stupid", really; we all have to start somewhere. @nhlupdate is really good for general updates on the league and questions, and I recently discovered @reavenedges-lies as well - Ren has some great takes and analysis on the sport, and even taught me a thing or two about goaltender interference :).

But yeah, I think that's the basics of it. See what you're looking for in your hockey fandom and go from there. I can't answer what you should watch without knowing what you're interested in - what teams catch your eye? You might root for a local team, a team who has players you like, or even just pick a logo and go from there. Every team is unique and has its own strengths and challenges. You might find, for instance, that rooting for a team like the Flyers, who are entering a rebuild and won't be successful for a few years, is unrewarding. On the other hand, maybe you want to choose an underdog and avoid a team like the Oilers for that reason. It's all up to you. So let me know what team(s) you're interested in and we can go from there!

Hey, I get it – everyone's got their own style. Rocking a dress? Totally cool. But let's not brush off the not-so-cool stuff Max said before. Comparing Lewis' comment to ableist slurs ain't fair.

Max only apologised when things heated up and the Mongolian government got involved. At first he said “it wasn’t his problem”, so let's not play down the ugly words.

Defending your countryman’s cool, but not at the expense of sweeping the unsavoury remarks, made by both him and his entourage in the past, under the rug.

We can appreciate the speed on the track without turning a blind eye to the words off it.

We, as a community, should raise the bar and stand up for what's right. It's important to call out wrongdoing, even if it involves our favs.

i never said what max has said should be brushed off. i didn't mean to compare lewis' comment to what max said either, that's not the point i wanted to make.

max may have said, at first that it wasn't his problem, until he realised the severity of the situation yes. isn't that incredibly normal though? not realising you made a mistake until other people get involved and let you know that you did make a mistake? and then, once you realise the severity of the situation, you apologise? doesn't he deserve some acceptance that he said something harmful from an ignorant standpoint and then learned that he shouldn't say that again? this is not to say we should forget it, this is not to say that it wasn't bad what he said, this is all to say that he, like anyone else, is allowed to learn.

i didn't mean to defend him either. while i understand where he came from and why he said it (in the sense that it's a common swear word in the NL), i don't condone his behaviour. while i understand that he was filled to the brim with adrenaline and then you often say things you don't mean, i don't mean to say he was right for saying what he said.

i only mean to underline that regardless of who said what, everyone deserves to learn. everyone deserves empathy and patience and room to make mistakes to then get told by people they trust (friends; colleagues) that they shouldn't have said/done what they did. this whole cancel culture is so counterproductive. if i said something i didn't know was a slur, had negative connotations, or whatever, and someone said 'you! Zhalia! jail for one thousand years!' and never calmly explained what i did wrong, i will never learn! when someone sits me down and goes, hey z, maybe that wasn't so smart, because what you said/did is very negative toward other people, be careful of your words ok?' then i will learn, then i will understand, then i will change.

we as a community. i. i'm sorry but i never see the worth of calling people out on the internet. is it truly so important to harass our blorbos for what they said? do we have to go after their families and into their insta posts and dms and whateverthefuck to show on what moral high ground we are to lecture these ignorant fools on stuff?

okay sure we can let them know. we can send them stuff and go, hey, maybe not so smart. but also: is it our responsibility? does being a fan of someone mean you stand behind every word they say? because then i must've missed a fandom-course over the years. i never saw the value in that. i never saw calling my blorbos out as my responsibility, no matter how much i disagree with what someone said or did. i think, personally, i'm simply too old for meddling in that type of stuff. i like being here on tumblr and spreading things from afar and talking to fellow fans about it, but do i have to personally go to @ racer bia and message her 'hey girl, liking slurs on twix is maybe not the way to go' and will she then respond 'oh hey, you're so right babe, thanks!' or what? or should i make tweets with 'things bianca has achieved; a threat (zero follow ups)' to shade her? or should i block and cancel her? should we alert the newspapers? what am i supposed to do here? because personally, i wasn't planning on doing anything but reblog that screenshot. and yeah, i respond to anyone who sends me asks.

to close off, i wanna quote a friend on this who, in her reblogs, said: i think we should care about liked tweets a proportionate amount, as in lets not act like she said it with her whole chest. also i think giving a 18yo zero chances to improve/apologize is not good

I'm sorry, but what this Monaco anon wrote seems like pure bullshit. K is definitely not good PR for Max and at this point she is even harming Penelope's image, see the episode of the photo with the black woman. Her family destroyed his image in Brazil. And Max doesn't even use that "family man" PR. He has hardly ever mentioned Penelope and acknowledges K only a couple of times a year. If you don't follow K, you don't have this "family man" content with Max. He's not earning a single coin from being a "family man". What does it mean that Sophie follows people who collaborate with K? She follows over 6k people, and has some very random folows, like Playboy magazine and even that Georgia Toffolo with whom Max hooked up once over 6 years ago. Who must have gotten K the Vogue NL job was her agency, as they have collaborated on previous issues (it's on their instagram page), not Sophie. She is Belgian, not Dutch. The agency also must have chosen the motorsport theme to get Max's hype, as K is such a failure as a model/influencer and almost no brands collaborate with her. Max had to speak out last year because Pérez's fans threatened his family, even Victoria's children and Penelope. It wasn't just a case of another rumor of K cheating on him in Monaco/Miami/Brazil that he will never speak in public because it's unnecessary. Sophie has posted just once since the threats. I don't agree with her talking about Pérez and Carola, but threats are unacceptable. Also, keep in mind that Max's family and friends were much more supportive of Dilara than they are of K, and it has been like that even before all of her controversies. Still, no one ever used Dilara for good PR for Max like George's PR is using Carmen, for example. Max stays with K due convenience and laziness to start a new relationship, or even deep down he loves her a little bit (I doubt it, as neither seems comfortable with each other). I think he doesn't care about her using his image to get fame. Barely comparing, reminds me of Kimi and Minttu. She achieved a lot in Finland by being his wife and she also had her controversies, such as misogynistic statements in interviews and making fun of Lewis' clothes on Instagram.

Snoopy’s Christmas by The Irish Descendants

Snoopy’s Christmas, as I’ve said before, is one of those songs that gives me real nostalgia. It takes me back to Saturday morning Santa Claus parades — those I saw on TV (via the CBC’s coverage of the JayCees Parade in St. John’s) and in-person in Eastport, near where I grew-up.

Parades don’t seem the same to me anymore, but I’m not sure they should. I mean, I’m an adult now — moments of child-like wonder are far fewer and much further between.

And when did the JayCees parade stop, anyway?

I digress; back to Snoopy.

This year my nostalgia is being sparked by a new version of Snoopy’s Christmas from The Irish Descendants. It’s a good one.

Ages ago, I asked people to send me scenes they wanted me to compared across the Skams, and then I kinda ignored it. This wasn't intentional, but rather because I wanted to do the scenes in chronological order. And the one I got for s1 was the Eva/Jonas breakup scene.

The issue is that Jonas is a very misunderstood character in international fandom. I felt like I couldn't begin to compare the scenes without getting into the fundamental conflict between Eva and Jonas, and I couldn't do that without getting into why Jonas hates Russetide, and I couldn't do that without a long post that was going to swallow up whole the other 7 versions of the scene.

I've never really let go of the idea of doing those comparisons, even though the anons that sent the original asks are probably long gone. I thought of a bunch of different ways to approach the asks, but nothing worked for me. Until recently, where I just decided to first explain Russetide, then compare the different Skam opening speeches, and THEN I will finally compare the breakup scenes.

But instead of explaining Russetide itself, which I think most Skam fans more or less understand, I'm going to explain SJEIKEN 2015. This song perfectly encapsulates what Jonas hates about Russetide. In fact, he quotes it in one of the scenes where he's being a dick to Eva!

Russetide is a tradition in all of Norway, but western Oslo (where Skam is set) is one of the richest areas in the country and, as such, they really go above and beyond with it. A bus is better than a van, the buses have to be decked out with the best sound systems. The crew has to have not just hoodies but also headbands and other merch, and it all has to follow the theme the crew has chosen. And if you really are the hottest of hot shit, then you actually commission legit artists to write a theme song for your bus. We can see this in s2, where the girls discuss The Penetrators theme song.

There are a bunch of different Norwegian artists that you can commission for your Russe song, but the most famous are probably TIX and the Pøssy Project. The Pøssy Project is a group of multiple songwriters, but all of its members have chosen to keep their identites anonymous because, as it turns out, ~Norwegian adults~ think everything I'm about to explain is trashy and disdainful. The one artist in The Pøssy Project that has always owned his participation in it is Andreas Haukeland, better known as TIX. (You might also know him as this year's ESC entry for Norway.) Why does TIX stand by these songs? Idk, probably because they're extremely popular, chart well, and make money, and by standing by them, he gets to perform them in gigs and profit off those creations.

SJEIKEN 2015 has featured twice in Skam, first in s1e1. It's also the song Pepsi Max is singing when they party at Sana's place in s4. And SJEIKEN 2015 featured so prominently in Skam because the song became a runaway hit the year before (the 2014-15 school year), breaking into the Norwegian charts as well as Spotify most playeds in Norway. It is a tremendously popular song that people loved.

So, who or what is SJEIKEN 2015 about? SJEIKEN is a 2015 Russe crew (meaning they graduated high school in 2015) who chose to make their Russe theme about... oil sheikhs. That is what sjeiken means. The song itself is about an oil sheikh called Sheikh Yer Bouti who declares tonight to be free of rules. His 400 wives are allowed to get drunk and be whores, just for tonight. Here are the lyrics:

Now, TIX has recently tried to become a mature artist, and so he was recently asked about SJEIKEN 2015 (again, a song he performs to this day). This was his response:

At a party, I met a girl who was crying over a boy she liked. She had built up her expectations that this would be the night she finally hooked up with him, but she was afraid that if she did, the guys would call her "whore". I thought about it a bit… It's actually quite true - if a boy hooks 10 girls at a party he is a legend, but if a girl hooks up with only one boy she may risk being called loose. That's absolutely ridiculous! So I said to her, "Tonight you are allowed to be a whore. Tonight you are allowed to hook up with him.”

And like, I just want to say this response is horseshit, first of all lol. But in case you for some reason thought this was supposed to be like a feminist anthem for a girls' russe buss (a crew like Los Losers for instance), let me share a picture of the SJEIKEN Russe crew:

SJEIKEN (the Russe crew) also participated at a Russe event back in 2015. Here is how they chose to stage their song:

At this point, you might think that perhaps Jonas might have reason to be appalled that Eva, who he assumed shared his values, decided to get involved in Russefeiring. However, one other thing about Russefeiring is that literally EVERY YOUNG PERSON in Norway is supposed to love all of this shit. My evidence is very anecdotal, but I once asked a Norwegian high school student how many people aren't involved in Russefeiring. He said everyone is, the only people who aren't are the friendless losers. I also came across a Norwegian young woman's blog who said she preferred talking to people from abroad, because she didn't have to explain to them that she never actually did Russe, because to admit she hadn't, would immediately show her to have been a total outcast in high school. Like, this is an issue for people into their twenties.

So Jonas isn't just taking a stance to be cool, the fact that he is vocally opposed to Russefeiring in every way makes him (and the boy squad) total losers. In fact, Chris Schistad referred to Jonas as a nerd and the boy squad plainly wasn't in William's radar at all. It wasn't a thing like in Skam NL, where Kes' squad was leagues and miles above Noah's squad in terms of coolness (MOTHERfucker... don't even try to tell me Gijs was cooler than Kes lmao). Jonas would've been seen as a loser and a burnout, and that's what Jonas was talking about when he told Eva that she was always doing the popular thing to do. Because he very staunchly refused to participate in this tradition, despite the fact that doing so made him an outcast, because, for him, THAT was the moral thing to do.

Having read all this (you poor soul), and being on tumblr like you are, is it really that unthinkable that Jonas would think that Russefeiring and the culture associated with it is crap? Do you really think a 16-year old has the nuance to say, "you know, Russefeiring stands for everything I hate, but since you're friendless because of me, and this is your chance at having friends, I will put my ideals aside and support you in this." Absolutely not lmao. How many of you would even now shit on friends if they stepped outside the line of what tumblr considers woke? How many people on twitter turn on each other for transgressions like stanning the wrong Skams? Jonas was shitty because he was super rigid in what he considered the right way to behave, but in that sense, he was actually one of the most accurate portrayals of a specific type of Gen Z. Unlike idk, characters who quote fucking Animal Farm to talk about school festivals.

(And NOW that all of that has been established, I can finally begin dissecting season 1 lol.)

Baseball’s back ... kind of! Sure, the games don’t mean anything in the standings, but c’mon, how much does one game out of 162 really mean during the season, too? Honestly, that’s kind of the beauty of it! 

The players are out there, they’re swinging bats, announcers are talking about the need to make contact and they’re reading local sponsors again. (Who knew how badly I needed to hear about Farmer John’s hot dogs or what PC Richards and Sons could do for me and my family?) 

I already saw Tim Anderson bobble a ball, flip it in the air, grab it and fire backhand to second for the out. I’ve seen a Red Sox farmhand rob a home run. I’ve watched dozens of college teams I’ve never heard of before get out onto their carefully manicured astroturf fields, with players showing off some incredibly questionable looks. 

The last year has been a seemingly never-ending nightmare, but the summer months are coming. Cases are coming down and vaccines are being distributed. The baseball season is coming and fans will -- all scientific evidence suggests so -- safely be in the stands. And even though I’m not in Florida or Arizona and am still continue staying in my apartment, it’s a much needed dose of optimism. I hope it’s a welcome boost for you, too. 

Anyway, here’s a few stories I’ve written recently: 

The best baseball cap for every team. Come and yell at me for having bad opinions! Or shower me in gifts for being a noted tastemaker. 

Lauren Taylor found her calling after traumatic brain injury. I was fortunate enough to speak with Taylor about her recent Topps card release and how she turned to art following the darkest moment of her life. She has an amazing story and she has a great talent worth following. 

Which teams can go worst to first? In eight of the last 10 years, a team has gone from last place to a postseason spot. Who could pull it off this year? 

And here are some things I didn’t write, but definitely recommend: 

The time Hank Aaron faced Satchel Paige. Matt Monagan discovered a very cool story: when Aaron was in his prime and Paige was trying to get his pension, the two faced off in Spring Training. 

Meanies, Beer Bellies, Big City Boys: The MLB team names that almost were. It’s Grant Brisbee, so I certainly hope you’ve already read this. 

Ace stuff from names you don’t recognize. Mike Petriello dove into the data and found pitchers who you may not know, but whose pitches closely resemble the very best in the game. Could be good prep for that 16 team, NL-only fantasy league you’ve got.

Is there a character that you would love to one day hear people instantly know comes from you? Is there a thought/trope that you would want others to associate you with? Anything that, if you could choose to, would be what makes people think: "Ah, that's NL! Would recognize that thought anywhere!"

Hello Natsume! I'm doing well. Just trying to plan a celebration as I am over a follower milestone. Also, trying to finish up the asks I got sent today for STS, so I can focus more on Pale Fire's character page, as well as the Pinterest page for Cold as Ice.

I'm going to break this up into parts, as that is easier for me to tackle longer questions. I may ramble a bit or two.

If there was one thing in your stories or writings that could be the foundation of familiarity for your fans, what do you think it would be?

I was actually thinking about this today, as I had another writeblr ask something similar today. As I was working on Pale Fire's character page and adding the description for my protagonist, I realized that all three protagonists for all three WIPs have foster families.

This will be the case in the final trilogy set in the Planes of Existence. Laelithra is the protagonist of that one, and while she is a priestess of Amés and actually the god's true love, she still visits her foster family. Laelithra's backstory is kind of inspired slightly by Aerith of Final Fantasy 7. She's wholesome and pure and doesn't deserve what is going to happen to her.

Is there a character that you would love to one day hear people instantly know comes from you?

This would be Amés. He is the vener (god) of life and love. More precisely, he oversees passion and physical desire.

Amés was the first god that was born in the Ven Plane, and as such, he is known as the king of all gods. The first born veneri live in a capital called Yiran. Yiran is a large capital, spanning more than 1/2 of the Plane. Blue misty skyscrapers dot the landscape.

Everything that has happened in the trilogies associated with Flight of the Dragon and Cold as Ice was orchestrated by Amés. He would appear to Brennan in a human vessel and hold him to his family's divine duty. It is Amés who is influencing Cyras and Vaene through a scrying pool from the ven plane. He needs them to bear a child, but they do fall in love on their own volition.

Why does he need a child? Amés has seen a vision of the apocalypse twice. In the first vision, it is the ruin that is left behind by the Endless Hunger. He senses the child of prophecy being born and interferes, but as he tells Brennan, he can't interfere more as he already has done too much. In exchange for the dragon's accept, Amés offers Brennan the option of living in an afterlife of his choosing with his life mate.

This doesn't come to pass, as Alystin passes away long before Brennan. Brennan is already 1200 at the time of Flight of the Dragon. There is about 2300 years between FOTD and Faith's Fall (which is the first book of the end trilogy). Brennan has spent all that time without Alystin, causing him to go mad and curse Amés.

The second time is when the vener of war Vittore comes to earth and is set upon destroying Cirel, the planet where the novels take place. Amés' has achieved what he set out with Cyras and Vaene, and he escapes the Ven Plane and is born upon the Arathean Plane. He is named Sandric.

The Olessan Empire is in its downfall, a far cry from what my readers will see in Cold as Ice. It actually is destroyed by Vittore and forces Sandric to flee. He has no destination and is fleeing from the destruction.

This is where he meets Laelithra. Sandric is smitten with her, but she isn't.

Sandric actually goes through a lot for Laelithra. He goes to the Death Plane to rescue her. Laelithra really opens him up to something he has never felt before.

Is there a thought/trope that you would want others to associate you with?

This is such a wonderful question, Natsume. It's one I haven't really thought of before.

As I write dark fantasy, there are some common tropes associated with it. I think the one that I would want associated with me is that humans are the real monsters. I hope that it serves as a cautionary tale.

Cirel is a horrible world to live in. The monarchy is corrupt. Yes, there are scary creatures and gods associated with the world, but the real spotlight is on humanity. The Olessan Empire isn't a wonderful place. Poverty is on the rise. The Dregs (the slums district) isn't even in the city. They are pushed up against the Olessan Forum's retaining wall.

Things often go wrong, and when they do, they go very wrong. The nastiness of the world often pits characters against each other, and it tears apart innocence.

For example, I often bounce ideas initially off my husband. There is a character there named Camila in Cold as Ice. She is the daughter of Cyras, the protagonist. He told me that Camila is too pure for that world. She is, and through her tribulations, she will become hardened like her mother.
