so the book is called einstein's dreams and it's basically just a collection of stories. the stories describe worlds where time behaves a little differently in each. it's pretty interesting! and a lot of it is based on real parts of einstein's theories. it really makes you think

aw thanks 🥹 ok so there's two stories in the book that i really like. the first one describes a world where time passes more slowly the higher up in altitude you go which is technically true in the real world but the effect is a lot more pronounced in the story. so everyone moves to the mountains or builds really tall buildings to live in thinking that they'll live longer as a result. then it becomes a status thing like the people who live in the valleys and lowlands are looked down upon. but the irony is it's all just relative. sure up in the mountains time will pass more slowly but only relative to down in the valleys. they're not really gaining any more time in their lives. in fact their lives become shorter because of the thin cold air up there and they start eating less and become unhealthy and aged before their time. i mean science aside it's just interesting to think about the lengths people will go to to run away from something inevitable then they end up making it worse

ok so in this world time is like a disc and it gets slower as you get closer and closer to the middle. again this can kinda happen in a way in the real world but that's for some other time. but basically you can walk to the center of time and when you're there time will stop. that means you'd never be able to leave but that moment would also last forever. so lovers would go there and kiss or parents would go with their children and hold them to stop them from growing older. but for people who didn't quite reach the center, just passed close to it, their time would slow down so much that when they got back to the rest of the world nothing would be the same. their friends and family would be gone and cities would be completely different. centuries would've passed essentially. so it's like a risk to get close to the center. but some people choose to do it to treasure specific moments. what would you choose?

oh that one's interesting too!! i think it's kinda similar to the first story tho. i feel like we can still treasure the important moments in our lives without having to freeze them forever and lose other things in the process. live in the moment but not freeze it forever

good morning!! hope i'm not waking you up with the notifs. i managed to sleep quite a bit and i'm listening to your playlist again now. and it's playing airplane thoughts! it's a really nice song and it's really fitting. so in the spirit of the song i just wanted to share some more thoughts with you. i was just thinking about how we were talking last night and the night we met, and how i just feel so comfortable? with you. like i can just be myself and open up completely. i'd usually never do that with someone i just met but you just made me feel at home. so often in my life i've been with people and shared special, beautiful moments with them. like when i would travel and see amazing cities and landscapes with my family, or stay up all night with my friends. but something was always off. i felt like i was the only one feeling that way. the feeling that this moment right here is special and i'll remember it for the rest of my life. i knew they didn't understand that feeling or treasure that moment in the same way. but somehow just a few hours with you sitting in front of a cathedral in milan i knew you understood me. you made me feel like a different person. or rather the person i always was underneath the facade i put on for people. so i hope you understand why i keep saying that our first night was so special to me and why i keep thanking you for it. it was so important to my life right at that moment. i'm just happy you're here. that's all

it was more remembering than dreaming. i remembered our time in milan. how we talked about quickly passing by people and realizing that there's so much more going on in everyone's lives beyond what we can see in those few seconds of eye contact

yeah! and i thought that, knowing that fact, why aren't more people kind and thoughtful? compassionate. i mean most people are polite but there's a step above that that's rare to see. if we let it really sink in that we don't have a lot of time with people and life goes by so quickly, why shouldn't we try to be the kindest and most genuine versions of ourselves all the time? i'm not saying that that's who i am but it's who i want to become. and talking with you i feel like that's what you want too?

i think i'd always had that in the back of my mind but i'd never really articulated it to myself. but after i met you and now that you've said that, yes that's what i want. i want to at least try. thank you for showing me that part of myself ❤️

i used to think a lot about love and relationships. i mean i still do. and not just romantic ones. i remember thinking at some point that all relationships eventually fade or people move on and that i'd be better off focusing on myself, on my career. i thought i'd rather live knowing that i was really good at something, like you are at your job. i thought i'd rather live knowing i excelled at something people cared about. maybe i was scared of really opening up to someone and sharing my entire life with them only for them to leave and forget about me. but you helped me realize that that's ok. you said that as long as you had a true connection with someone, even briefly, that there's beauty in that. and that really stuck with me. it is all about connection. at the end of the day that's all we really need right? to love and be loved

yeah isn't everything we do in life an attempt at being loved a little more? i mean sometimes i feel this pressure as an idol to be a perfect role model for others, especially to other girls my age, and there's a certain responsibility that comes with that. i want to show them that you can achieve your dreams if you try hard enough and you don't really need anyone else. but then i realize that i'm doing this job because i love making music, spreading love in the world, and receiving it back. we do kinda need each other in the end cuz that's what being human is i think

On the plane, when I closed my eyes to sleep, I could hear your voice. I think it's nice to know that you can just close your eyes and think about those you love, those special to you, and know they are real, alive, hopefully happy, in their own corner of the world, whether it's down the street or across the planet, and know that if they're closing their eyes and thinking the same, you're together in that moment.

That's a really nice thought.

But it isn't the same as having them near, knowing they're right there beside you under the same roof, under the same sky, under the same stars. It's not the same as just being able to turn to them and smile. To be able to hug them and laugh with them and hear it unfiltered in your ears. To be able to say things with your presence that words could never convey. I think we all need that closeness as humans. I think that's why we miss people. And why I miss you, too.

12. Most underrated vid that you wished had gotten more views?

I'm going to say Stray Italian Greyhound for Dear Missy. I really like this vid because I think it most accurately summarizes what I see as the plot of the actual series - Lu Ke's journey to recognizing, accepting, and ultimately living her feelings for Shen Siyi. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out, and it can still fairly reliably make me tear up to watch. It's a really great show and more people should watch it! Even with the weird canonical straight ending it's pretty good tbh 🤣 it has things like men and women dating and breaking up and still being part of the same friend group 🤯 what a concept!

But personally I always advocate for just ignoring the heterosexuality in the last six episodes & just watching them for the bonus Lu Ke / Shen Siyi fluff.

27. Advice for anyone just starting their channel?

I'm interpreting this to mean "advice for anyone starting out making fanvids"?

I'd say do what you want and don't expect anyone to see it. Exchanges (like Festivids) and cons (like VidUKon, Fanworks, or WisCon) are a great way to "force" people to watch your vids and not get criticism unless you want it. (YMMV - I am not sure what the experience of submitting to AMV contests is like, for example.)

I'd recommend using a modern fully-featured video editing program like Da Vinci Resolve from the beginning rather than something like iMovie - DVR is more complicated but makes it very easy to separate the vid itself from the source files. That is, you can move the files from your hard drive to a backup drive to free up space and work on something else, then put them back later if you want to go back to a previous fandom!

That said, if a low bar of entry is important, iMovie is also fine. Whatever works for you!

Bonus question 1 (from replies): How do you get ideas for vids?

It depends! Sometimes it comes from blorbos or otherwise loving a show such that I want to share it with other people. Other times it comes from frustration with something not being done the way I wanted in the show, or drawing out a theme that I think the show didn't fully explore. A large chunk of my vids are from Festivids, which is great because I can see what ideas other people have and then make treats for them if I'm excited about what they've suggested and think I have time to pull it off (which is usually only possible for movies and for shows I've already (mostly) clipped, in my experience.) From time to time I'll hear a song and think it's perfect for some character or concept, but I'll generally still end up spending a fair amount of time searching for other potential songs before I actually get started on the vid. More often I'll hear a song and think, that would make a fun vid but I don't know what for, so I stick it in a playlist that I go through every time I'm looking for potential vid songs.

If I have an idea for a vid, I write it down in a spreadsheet. I'll never make most of those ideas, either because I've moved on from the fandom or because I just ended up not liking it as much later. Here's a snippet of vids I will probably never make from my spreadsheet in case it's interesting:

Bonus question 2 (from replies): What makes a vid you're working on feel done to you?

I'm a bit of a perfectionist with my vids, so this can be tricky. I think I would say: Once I am satisfied that the clips on the timeline are doing what I want and there are no clips that I believe would be strictly better, I try to stop.

Overall my process is: I'll generally make a first draft that doesn't have things that feel obviously bad (but I might still have things I'm not satisfied with but don't know how to solve). I send that out for beta and work on other things in the meantime. Depending on how much I care about the vid / how uncertain I am about it, I might do multiple rounds of beta or send it to multiple betas at once.

Depending on the vid, I might do a pass specifically looking at clip timing or motion or color correction (for example, making sure dark scenes are possible to parse), or anything else that I particularly want to work well for the vid.

Once I have something that feels "final" I like to let it sit for a week to a month, then come back to it to see if there's anything else I notice that I'd want to change before calling it done.

But a lot of times I'm working on a deadline for an exchange or a con, which means that at some point I just have to stop and call it good enough.

By the time I'm done with a vid, I often no longer feel like I can tell whether it's good or not because I'm too deep in it, so I see things nobody else would. I can't necessarily tell how satisfied I'll be with a finished vid until 6-12 months after I've posted it. (So I try to keep that in mind if I'm agonizing over whether people will notice a cleancredits glitch that's only visible in the lower left corner of a clip for like 4 frames.)

I have a vidder friend who I can show things to at that point not for beta but just to ask, is there anything obviously wrong with this? Any reason I shouldn't post this? (The answer is usually: It's fine, just post it!)

Hi elly!! I neeeeed you to hear this song called "tum se hi". It's one of my favorite hindi songs. And it has such a cute story in the movie. Basically the guy was depressed in the first half, had a lot of stuff going on with him and was neglecting his responsibilities, etc and one day he accidentally comes across this girl with whom he has to go on this whole adventure. He falls for her but she loves someone else

This song is basically him saying "he doesn't want anything in return for her, doesn't even mind if he never sees her again, she helped him improve in life and he will always love her no matter what".

And the music video is sooo sooo cute!!! Its basically him getting back to his work, focusing on his responsibility while also imagining her there as a part of his life. And there's a dance scene in the rain that's so popular that it has kind of become a thing for couples who grew up with this movie.

It's hard to not just fill this list with a bunch of BTS songs since they are such a huge part of my song library 🤣 so to just represent it all I put Spring day! Especially the whole staring thing mentioned in this chapter, how Miguel always looks at Y/N like Peter did, and Y/N smiles the same way that they did with Peter about Miguel. So I feel like this one once it’s listened to kinda speaks for itself but it definitely kinda sounds like how I would imagine Miguel would feel falling into this friendship / situationship / relationship. Because it starts off as that slow and staccatoed tempo before building up to tempo and suddenly it’s like he sees this person everywhere, not literally but metaphorically. Being able to associate this person with so many little things in life.

Last one, and currently it’s a bit of a stretch. However, hear me out. This song if you don’t know (and I apologize for explaining so much but I wanna be thorough, I’m sure you’ve listened to Hozier but y’know) Is about a man being so in love that he would endure the struggles in life all over again if he could be with his lover once again, and that their love is so powerful it is not meant for a place like heaven. This to me is a perfect ending song for Miguel x Y/N because! There has been so much of a build up, in this whole process I feel like by the end of it, Miguel would absolutely live the life he was given once more if it meant being with Y/N once more. Every single tragic event would be worth the pain because of the sheer love he would experience in the end.

Not really honestly. I just park my ass in front of my computer and do what needs to be done. 🤣 I mean, I listen to music while I write. Usually the MPG playlist, but I skip a lot of it because I prefer to listen to 3-7 songs on repeat rather than have a large amount shuffling. Haha. When it comes to writing the emotional stuff, or like, Steve’s overthinking, that’s just my own brain, so I’m always in the headspace.

Lately my fave song has been Scorpion by Dream, Ivory. It’s extremely applicable to Steve rn.

A big part of my process though is calling my mom and reading scenes to her, asking her opinions and stuff. I was on the phone with her for like 7 collective hours this weekend before I posted. 🤣🤣 sometimes I get too close to the story and can’t see if it’s good or funny or sad the way it’s supposed to be, so I read it to her, and she’ll tell me. Like I read the rejection scene of Ch.20 to her 4 separate times bc I kept changing it. And I said, “idk…is it even sad? I don’t feel anything.” And she’s like 🥺🥺🥺…bitch. It’s sad. And then I’m like oh okay…cool.

And I read the fight scene in Ch.22 to her, and she was like gagged and thought it was amazing when I was like… “idk are you sure it’s intense enough? Does it even make sense?” I literally wouldn’t be able to do it without her.

But anyways haha.

He openly admires, starts friendships with and looks up to many openly queer artists, including talking about how he doesn't just like Gucci clothes but admires the man behind the magic so to say, Alessandro Michele, the creative director of Gucci. He has spoken about how much he admires him, Alessandro is also openly gay. He has recommended Honey by Kehlani on his Playlist. He has formed friendships with Ante Badzim, even created his photography name "Vante" based off his work, talking about how he admires him a lot and looks up to him.

And has spoken about admiring and enjoying Ryan McGinley as an artist. Expressing how happy and natural the people in his photos look. McGinley is a nude in nature type photographer. You can and should look up his work if you haven't seen it, he is very talented. He often has solo people in his shoots, but has done plenty with pairings, including LGBTQ ones. Tae even used his photos for inspiration in his own work, which we know because Jimin was his model, and he apparently just has those photos of Jimin casually on hand to be able to threaten him with posting them if doesn't upload the video of him acting cute like Tae wanted him to 🤣

In 2014 in a log, he fanboys hard over his Sunbaenim K Will who was in the waiting room next to them during a show. It was adorable. K Will had quite the love story plot twist in his music video where it turns out he was not jealous of his friends relationship because he liked the girl.... but because he liked the guy, his friend. It was subtle, but it was also quite a statement to be made for those who paid attention to it and made the obvious connections. The most obvious one being when he put their photos together at the end

In 4 o'clock, the song he wrote and composed with RM, they mention Moonlight in the lyrics. He also wrote this song from inspiration from when he met up with Jimin, drunk, at 4am to make up after their fight. This was meaningful to Tae, and TaeJoon sang it together in the 2017 prom party for us. So sweet and special.

He also talked about how much he liked and enjoyed the movie Call Me By Your Name which is a gay coming of age story, calling it his favorite movie. I personally haven't seen the movie, but I have read the book. It is quite explicit and is 100% focused on a figuring out who you are and falling in love deeply type of romance between a young man and an older man he falls for. He has openly been enthusiastic about his fanboys even agreeing to a date with one when they said they loved him and wanted to date him. During the clip of Jin accidently hitting a fan during a fansign, Tae slips and calls her his husband before correcting to wife. Lol

Talking about how one of his precious memories pre BTS was when he did a drag competition in school and was very good at it. Which goes hand in hand with him SLAYING it dancing in heels with all the sass, including at the end, dancing with the group of queer dancers in his heels and loving life

Let's not forget about the time where he got drunk, posted tons of crazy photos, including ones where he was crashing into bed and then kissing his Jimin plush doll goodnight many times

At a concert, fans were holding up a sign that said LGBT loves BTS sign, and Tae saw it and was visibly touched, placing his hand over his heart, tapping it a couple times and nodding and smiling to those fans

Not to mention all the roleplaying and fake acting he does with Jimin where they have played gay lovers breaking up or anything else. His general mannerisms that are sometimes a little *extra* and just generally not caring if the things he does looks "gay." He doesn't mind if you think what you think. He doesn't mind being perceived that way.

This is all I can currently think of at the moment. There is probably more. Lol again, none of this proves what his sexuality is. And it shouldn't really matter. There is a whole spectrum he could Land on here. Lol this isn't me saying yes he is for sure LGBTQ, this is just saying, it's easy to think he could be and here is a collection of moments that hint to WHY people think that he could be. It's definitely possible! Tae is such a sweetheart and so special. In the end, no matter who he loves, I just want him to be cherished and hope he is happy and loved!

I saw you made a playlist of songs for Sy, and like, yes. Of course. Those all make sense. You have developed such an amazing story of who this man is, his character, and made us all want him so well. But it got me thinking, and so, of course, I had to go back and re-read EIYDMI 1-3 for science, a few times to make sure I didn't miss something along the way...

What was the book? He said he was into it, but I mean, did he like it? Did they agree about the important parts? Did he have a favorite passage? Was there something especially meaningful (besides knowing she was reading the same words on paper) about the story for him? Did they have enough time for another long distance book club?

I'm just, like, into him? You know? (I know you know.)

Ah @deandoesthingstome I kind of feel like I suck doing these kinds of asks, but I also like talking about my stories so, I’ll do my best to give you my thought process on what book the reader would have chosen and why I didn’t specify what book she sent.

Below the cut because for some reason I can pump out 800 words on this but I cant write a new story. 🙈

I didn’t mention a book on purpose because I felt like I put too much self indulgent shit in the story already, like mentioning the movies Alien vs Predator and Freddy vs Jason which are some of my favs and thought maybe it might be fun for the reader to get an idea in their head of what they would send to Sy.

Now thinking as the reader, she would rule out anything romantic or erotic straight up. At the point where she sends him the book, she’s still not sure of the relationship and what it all means so she doesn’t want to be too forward.

She also wouldn’t want to choose anything too deep, she likes to keep her conversations with him on lighter topics on purpose, usually only going deeper when he instigates it because she doesn’t want to burden him. She wants to give him an escape, so she would probably avoid anything too literary or dense. Plus, she doesn’t know if he even enjoys reading, so she isn’t going to throw him in the deep end. I think she’d pick something popular/mainstream to start with.

I was thinking she would choose a novel for Sy rather than a biography or something non-fiction. Again, this is about escapism rather than anything serious. She would be deciding between a crime novel, a thriller/spy novel or a fantasy or sci-fi book. @nashibirne suggested something comedic, but this is where my failings as a writer come in and I rarely read funny books so, I wouldn’t even know where to begin. The reader would discount anything that featured special operators/military, or anything war-like so your Robert Ludlum or Matthew Reilly type books would immediately be out. She considered some detective/mystery books like ones by Michael Connelly or Patricia Cornwell, but ultimately decided the stories were too grim.

That leaves sci-fi and fantasy. And (surprise!), my headcanon is that Sy reads fantasy/sci-fi (plus some history and biography/autobiography books but we already discounted them for the purposes of this story.) There were a few choices for the reader here: The Wheel of Time was immensely popular around this time, despite book 10 Crossroads of Twilight being disappointing to some fans; The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King, Wolves of Calla had just been released and was still a popular series; The Witcher (very meta - thanks @amberangel112); or perhaps a Michael Crichton novel like Jurassic Park or Prey.

Ultimately after wandering around the bookstore (yeah, there were still real bookstores back in 2003) the reader stumbles across Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, because if you can think back to 2003 (lol I unfortunately can 🤣) that book was EVERYWHERE. The thing about it was, it had people that hadn’t picked up a book in years reading again and well and truly entered the zeitgeist. So although it is in the thriller category and has some grim elements, it’s an exciting and fast paced read that seemed to have wide appeal at the time and she hadn’t read it yet and since it was a new release, she was pretty sure that Sy wouldn’t have read it yet. So, after agonising in the book store for ages, that’s what she ultimately picks.

So for Sy, reading the book was special because it was a connection the two of them had. He knew when he read the words that she had read them too. He spent a lot of time picturing what she looked like when she read. Did she only read at night time before bed or did she curl up on her couch (that fucking couch) at any time of day to read? Was she one of those people that carried a book everywhere they went? Did she drink a glass of wine or tea or coffee when she read? Did she fold the corners of the page to mark her spot or did she use a bookmark?

When they talk about the book, it’s usually a way to springboard into other topics like art or travelling, religion, and studying. They used it as a way to get to know each other better.

It’s a short read, but they spread it out, only reading a certain number of pages between phone calls.

I hope this was ok. I don’t know if this was the kind of answer you wanted but… yeah, I did my best and hope you liked it.

The way Apollo used the memories of his friends as motivation to go on, the way he constanly reminded himself of the promise he made to Jason as a reason to not give up yet- and don’t even get me STARTED on how MEG WAS THE ONLY REASON THAT HE WAS ABLE TO HANG ON IN THE STYX- IT’S TOO MUCH I’M CRYING-

Also the rest of the song tbh,,, kinda reminds me of Meg, ya know?
