spent this weekend watching My Lady Jane on Prime and I...literally have no notes. I think it's perfect. The storyline is captivating, all the actors are performing brilliantly, it's funny, the costumes and hair and makeup are gorgeous and Jane and Guildford have THE craziest chemistry, like I haven't ever seen anything like it.

This is the best show I have watched in ages. I want a second season right now!

having thoughts about things

#i was fucking around with color here more than anything so these look jank and also i haven't done any real loose doodling in a few days #coming down off of last week with a bunch of teaching shit on top of a deadline but also it's not a break quite yet #which is unfortunate bc i'm like ough i wanna paint with gouache i wanna finish those two illustrations i wanna animate i wanna write #and i want so bad to do all those things but by the time i sit down to do any of those it's like. 10 pm and i need to go to bed in 2 hours #and wake up in nine. so it's the slow chipping away and not hyperfocus-fueled evening art sessions for the next few days #which is all to say: bark bark bark bark bark #also sorry i've been worse than usual abt talking to ppl and responding my brain is. full #love what i do and genuinely i do think i go about my career in a decently sustainable way but some weeks hit me and i'm like #shit dude i really am working 5+ jobs/projects at any given time huh. shoutout to my gayass ocs for keeping me sane thru it all 👍#wip #honeybee

I officially finished my 4th iwatex game, and am somehow already halfway through my 5th

I have 96 hours logged. I started playing this game only 10 days ago.

Guess who spent 17 hours doing an assignment they didn't think would take more than 5 max

#started working at about 6:30 pm on friday #kept working practically non stop with minimal distraction until 4 am #went to sleep #got back to work at 4 pm on saturday #finished at 12:30 #genuinely a new low point for me #last time i wasted a whole day like this was last semester with cs #but at least then i would pace around my room and then went up to work on the roof for a couple hours #because my roommate asked if she could have someone over and i wasn't ready for social interaction #and on the roof i met some cool upperclassman who played the guitar and we had a nice chat as i tried to figure out the bugs in my code #today i literally didn't speak to a single person or step foot outside my room even once #i spent 5 hours not getting up from my chair or picking up my phone #hyperfocus goes crazy i guess #anyways i still have 2 missing assignments that i can't do because the class doesn't accept late work #and also because i think i would explode if i had to do multi right now #the smartest guy i know in the class was only able to do half of that homework #🔭.txt #this was genuinely such a horrible day #i'm so tired #what's worse is that it doesn't even feel like it's been that long #it felt like it flew by in an instant #agh #milliliters of peaceful sleep

I am utterly fascinated by how much cool stuff you do and am incredibly curious at how you have time to do it all. Did you just get really lucky with whatever job you have that allows you the free time and energy outside of it to do all you do? Do you simply have a mastery over this aspect of adulthood? Is it witchcraft?

I went to law school to be an artist. Which is to say--I specifically picked a field of work that I found interesting, and engaging, and which paid decently (and I say decently because by lawyer standards my salary is a joke, but it comes with a pretty excellent work-life balance and work that I truly do like) and which uses basically zero creativity. I don't tap into Art Brain for my job at all. I do my 8-5 every day and I have art stewing in the back of my head the whole time, and when I clock out I tap into a whole different aspect of self to work on projects.

I don't have an exceptional amount of free time--I do work full time--but I also don't sleep a lot? so maybe I get a couple extra hours a week that way. And I have ADHD, so when the hyperfocus hits I am going, regardless of whether or not I should actually be doing something else.

Part of it is just the fact that I'm only going to do what I want to. With the exception of the three commissioned paintings I'm working on, and a couple holiday gifts, I'm doing all of this because I just really want to do it. I don't have to force myself to do this because my bills depend on it. If it's not something I'm genuinely excited about, it's probably not going to get made. And sometimes I'm just tired out, and I do nothing. I got in a couple hours of painting after work today, but that was it; I made dinner and I've been vegging since then. It's fine.

But mostly this stuff is passion projects. I do it because I love to do it and it's easy to chose to do what makes me happy.

Maybe it's a little witchcraft.
