shout out to the california government make it a mind feild to get a court order to change your legal name and then get the documents to send to the state to tell them you changed your name and then to get all your important documents amended / get a new one

also good luck if you have auditory processing issues because every government building either has so many people that its hard to hear and also the person at the counter speaks at volume level -75 OR theres some fuck ass noise in the background from god knows what machine doing who knows what and you get a migraine and the person at the counter also speaks at volume level -75. and i think she's french. she had that vibe of a pretentious french person.

also everything takes 7,000 years to file and will cost you like somewhere between $400-$600 to tell the government you changed your name and for them to give you a special piece of fancy paper that you need to get all your correct legal documents

Listening to Dan and Phil on Shut Up I’m Talking and man, I love how grown up they are. Like actually, literally, behaving like mature adults who talk about business and marketing and gatekeepers and long-term career choices. It feels good that they are real functioning adults and they make the content that they do, because it makes space for me/us to be real functioning adults and enjoy the content that they make.

Because they’re right; there IS a sense in society that “Dan and Phil” and “YouTube” and being “chronically online” and participating in fandom is juvenile. But guess what? Being fun and silly and weird and gay and hopeful aren’t juvenile qualities, they’re just things capitalism society doesn’t want grown-ups to express. Because being an adult is antithetical to joy, apparently.

But Dan and Phil have created a safe environment for being both grown-up and indulging in joy. Hearing them talk like mentors to younger internet folks like Tom and Jack, and hearing them speak so professionally about their careers really brings out the maturity of their content and I really appreciate that.

Chat is it too much to hope for a scene where Shadow Milk Cookie is greatly weakened and trying to hit Pure Vanilla Cookie while he can barely stand while screaming, "I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU", but eventually, when he realizes nothing is working, he just breaks down and starts crying into PV's robes, and then Pure Vanilla Cookie leans down and starts holding him and comforting him and saying, "Shhh, it's alright" and then Shadow Milk just lays there crying in his arms?

Is that too much to hope for?

i'm struggling to put into words exactly what it is that bothers me about eddie and buck's plot in this episode. i see what people are saying in that this fits with eddie's behavior when he's been at rock bottom, so i guess character assassination isn't the right term. i'm still shocked he put his hands on buck, and for far less provocation and less reason to be irrational than when chim fully punched buck. but, whatever.

my biggest problem is with the structuring. this isn't mad men or sopranos. firefam is allowed to be flawed but they're all supposed to be fundamentally good people that we're meant to root for. if they do something objectively shitty, the episode is supposed to have them make up for it by the end or put their actions in a different light. imo they failed at that tonight.

buck had done absolutely nothing wrong, was in fact doing his best to look out for the others while barely keeping his head above water. he was not shown being annoying or intrusive. just visibly sad (to the point where his voice sounded different. ostark the actor that you are). the only people showing appreciation for his feelings up to this point have been maddie a week before the funeral and tommy when it all went it down, and there's no indication that buck even knows he saw him which makes me want to scream.

eddie and hen seemed to care what was going on with buck, in a mainly casual, jokey way, and hen seemed more concerned about the impact of eddie returning to el paso on buck than his grief over bobby.

anyway the next thing we know eddie is going the fuck off on buck, just ripping him to absolute shreds about his self-centeredness while crying about how no one understands his pain and then lowkey blaming buck for not saving bobby. horrifying. this is us made an entire arc out of kevin saying that to randall, estranging them for like a year before they made peace. not that i expect or want 911 to be this is us. i'm just saying. they took it really fucking far. they did not have to. and eddie's sole accountability was "somebody was being a dick to you" before letting his child and his recovering aunt deal with nurturing buck.

that was not enough to get me back on board, show. not nearly enough.

Random reminder that Black Butler is a psychological thriller/horror story with themes of trauma (all kinds of), SA and sexual imagery (in a possesive way) and supernatural elements set in old england. Also following a bunch of weird supernatural crime cases, which are individually used to explore all of the characters, their different dynamics and the different kinds of traumas everyone has. And on top there's some funny moments in moments where the comedy fits in.

(PS. This rant came to life cause I read "Why are you watching Black Butler if you don't actually ship them" TO MANY TIMES on TikTok. The point is psychological horror/thriller that I just happen to like when done well enough.)

that’s what kills me the most is that erik’s anger and rage and actions are just a byproduct of his trauma and pain. and he was meant to have peace and love and tenderness, but life was so cruel and he just got handed the worst fucking hand. and he turned into something he never thought he’d become but thought he had to be that person because why would life give him such misery if it wasn’t to shape him into a monster?
