Skyphos number two! Inspired by the very talented @hellenhighwater ‘s Minotaur sculpture, a painting by Flandrin, a sculpture by Paul Cabet, and a very handsome charolais bull from Google images.

FOOL MASK (GITM BY @venomous-qwille)

Handbuilt porcelain with slip, overglaze, glaze, and gold lustre accents. Paint and lacquer detailing added post fire. Handsewn fool's cap and bells added post fire.

This mask is a part of a (loosely connected) mask series, all hand-built and fired using a range of different temperatures and techniques.

My favourite mask to date, Fool from Ghost in the Machine by the wonderful @venomous-qwille !! GITM is absolutely incredible and I cannot put into words eloquently how much I adore it and Fool so instead I made this mask! Hi!

My word was this mask a struggle to make. The mask itself is entirely one piece, and entirely porcelain!! That's right, those long thin rays are solid porcelain!! The eyes and tips of the blades are done in 22 carat gold lustre. All colouring save for the black and the satin sections of darker red on the face were done with only slips and underglazes. The red colour was correct without the paint, but I thought a contrast from the rest of the gloss would look nice :)

Made to scale, the mask measures 50.8x60.96cm without the hat, and 50.8x116.84cm with it! (20x24in without hat, 20x46in including hat). He is Large, but turned out absolutely lovely and I send my many many thanks to the kiln gods for producing him unscathed.

I attempted to make a Pyxis (vessels used as storage containers for rouge, oils, jewellery, etc.) and I think for a first attempt it’s pretty good! I wasn’t feeling the foot because I have a bad track record with making feet separately, but there are variations of this shape that don’t have a foot on them so that’s what I did with my piece.

The lid is also thicker than I want but the clay I use has a tendency to crack if it’s really thin so I didn’t want to risk it. Also, once again there are variations of this vessel that have thicker lids so I just tried to make it as thin as I could get without it cracking or getting too small in diameter. This was also my first time throwing a lid on the wheel so that may have also made a difference.

The entire piece is wheel thrown; so the body of the piece, the lid, and the little knob on the lid are all wheel thrown! I’m thinking on using the design I used for my wooden Pandora’s box on this piece as well!

I watched Hikaru no Go and it hurt me. so naturally I did fanart about it. the black figure represents Hikaru—he has terrible posture but he looks eager to play. he's looking upward like a child. the white figure all neat and upright is Sai. Hikaru is bigger than Sai because Hikaru eclipses Sai eventually. Sai shrinks as Hikaru grows...

THE GUYS ARE HERE

they actually arrived thursday but do you ever do the thing where you're so excited about something you put it off? that's what happened

but i opened them today! they are pieces from @claypigeonpottery! they arrived all safe and sound and i have a shelf spot for them!

i got two kiln gods, both because i felt bad for them due to me projecting emotions onto inanimate objects lmao

the sad kiln god and his broken bowl just touched my heart and he's so pretty the glaze and clay colors are gorgeous

and then the white kiln god was on sale and needed a home because they didn't have one for a while, so i got them as well! they are friends :> i love the glaze patterning on this one and the gold bits

lastly there's a cute little freebie magnet of a bird with a skeleton carved in it!! so gorgeous

go support artists guys, especially this one, they're so insanely talented

also you can see a little of the sad guy's eye and i think that's really adorable

Magnets! Too many on here to list out prices and characters and sizes, but please let me know if you’re curious.

Things to know:

- the sherds have very thin magnets attached, so they lay quite flat. The dog in the middle and the two glazed ones (one to the right of the dog and the one in the bottom middle) stick up a little. I just used different magnets for those; they work exactly the same.

- the figure on the top left (also my profile picture) comprises 3 magnets that are a set, and the figure below him to the right of the carved magnet is a set of 2.
