Original work done by.... Patrick Spaziante I believe! It looks like his style from the 90's, though i don't know if it was ever properly credited in the old issues. New inks and colors done by me for a fun little warmup- so not claiming any credit~

A few days ago, I asked on IG how my mutuals would have liked to see me drawing Jacob and Dottie again (since, you know, it has been since March that I last drew them together in any capacity).

And dearest @memoriesofafallen suggested me to draw them as X-MEN.

Needless to say, my brain starting going like crazy, because if there is something that I absolutely adore in this world, it's X-Men.

They were the first comics I ever read (all thanks to my older cousin who was the one to actually introduce me to the fandom with the old game "Children of the Atom") and to be honest, the only Marvel comics I ever read (I much preferred DC when I was younger).

So, when dearest Tofu suggested me to draw them as X-Men, the brain started brainrotting right there and then.

BUT.

I was faced with a dilemma: drawing them as my favourite X-Men pairing OR as the characters that Jacob and Dottie resembled the most?

Because depending on that, I would have to draw them as very different characters (a huge cookie to the one that would guess how I would have drawn them if I went with the similarity road lolol)

And Tofu suggested me to go with my favourite ship.

SO NOW HERE YOU HAVE JACOB AND DOTTIE AS GAMBIT AND ROGUE BECAUSE FML.

Only, of course, I had to change Rogue!Dottie's hair, so I inverted the colours lololol

Baby me was smitten with Mr. LeBeau when I saw it on tv in '94, and absolutely love Rogue for how tough she was (why do you think I have a white streak in my hair lol)and you can BET YOUR HAT THAT I JUMPED TO THE OCCASION AND STARTED TO SHIP ROGUE AND GAMBIT (we will absolutely pretend that AoA never happened. Nah-ah. That is not canon for me. nope.)

Also, I decided to go a different way with colouring this time around, and instead of going with the soft rendering I usually go with, I decided to try my hand at recreating the style that is usually used in the comic, and good Gods, let me tell you, I had an ABSOLUTE blast and I am SO HAPPY WITH HOW THIS TURNED OUT.

SO HAPPY WITH THE COLOURING, SO HAPPY WITH THE POSE (also a little throwback to the very first artwork I did with them lolol

SO HAPPY WITH EVERYTHING.

I gave it a small "80s Retro" vibes because YES.

Honestly, for once I didn't dread colouring and rendering, and I had a HOOT.

I truly need to practice this colouring more often because I loved it! <3

And I liked the little details you added, like her forgetting what Kurogiri looked like as if he was just a dark mist, you know! I also love how you pointed out the fact that red is a color that suits perfectly for Tomura🥹 I also find myself reading the parts where Spinner makes Shiggy realize how horrible he was to her at first and how he apologized her about the pain he had caused. The realization and his apology is actually something I’m interested in to hear how you planned it and if it was difficult?

I'm so glad that you love the fic and especially that you noticed all the fun little callbacks and details to the OG series that I threw in. For the Kurogiri one, I was really proud of that ref, but also, it was a way for me to get away without describing what he looked like without a quirk! Lmao!

And oooh yay, thank you so much for the Director's commentary request!! I think I'd like to use this time to talk about MC's hometown: Sukari!

A Google search will quickly inform readers that this is not a real place lmao. I was thinking of going with a real town in Tottori or Shimane prefecture - very heavily considered Iwami as a little throwback to my days in the Free! Iwatobi Swim Club fandom lol (Iwatobi is based off of Iwami), but ultimately I decided that I wanted to have a little more freedom with the location, since I'd already locked myself into this dumb location research whirlpool by having the main story take place in Tokyo. (And I'm stupidly detailed with things like that).

And especially since in the potential sequel I'm brewing up, MC and Shigaraki are going to spend a pretty meaningful amount of time there. 😉

So I decided to make a new location! Fans of Shig/Reader fics are obviously familiar with the fic Griefing and I LOVED what Rotpeach did in that fic with their original locations, continuing with the Star Wars naming conventions. (Reader's neighborhood of Sabuterra being a play on Subterrel) Horikoshi utilizes in the original series. So I adopted that into mine too.

Sukari is a simplification of Sukarifu - which is how you pronounce Scarif in Japanese!

Scarif felt like the best one-to-one for the type of beach town that MC grew up in. The only other beach we see in Star Wars I believe is Kashyyk, which obvi, already has it's own namesake in the main MHA series, Kiyashi Ward. And I guess there's Wasskah, but I thought the vibe of Scarif was a lot prettier and more fitting.

(Only beaches we see in the movies and The Clone Wars at least. Lol sorry, I don't keep up with the books or comics.)

Plus, Rogue One is probably one of, if not my favorite Star Wars Movie so it all tied together nicely.

If it wouldn't be too much, I would like to know what you feel with regards to that ending lol

okay so i'm always extremely conflicted on the way they implied applejack and rainbow dash are married in the mlp finale - more the execution than the actual idea of it. obviously people who have known me since my hardcore mlp fandom days know i was obsessed with flutterdash (and, to a lesser extent, rarijack), but like, appledash is still a cute pairing! it was super popular in the early days of the fandom for a reason

the thing is, appledash kinda fell off in popularity compared to those other ships because the show started downplaying AJ and RD's dynamic after the first season. they stopped having so many episodes playing off of each other, and the writers started putting a lot more effort into exploring and deepening other relationships - like, well, the ones that i shipped. which is why those became my favorites! by the end of the series applejack and rainbow dash had barely had any episodes together in years, apart from one throwback episode about them still being competitive with each other in season 8. season 9 didn't have a single episode about the two of them - and, in fact, the last one-off episode they ever did about any of the mane six was yet another fluttershy and rainbow dash adventure. (not to mention that the equestria girls crew was busy actively implying rarity and applejack were in love by their own admission lmao)

then we get to the future scenes in the series finale and we get one line implying applejack and rainbow dash are married. it was bewildering. again, this isn't me going "how dare they not make MY ships canon." it's just... if you're gonna imply two of the mane six became a couple, something people had wanted for years, why didn't you build towards that conclusion for the characters at all? why did they barely even speak to each other in the final season? we need a whole episode about big mac getting married, but these two can't even hang out? it just feels like they picked an arbitrary ship that was popular in the early days of the fandom and added one line hinting towards it as an easter egg, rather than it being a meaningful attempt at queer representation on the show. because, i mean. that's what it is

after that and the episode about scootaloo's lesbian aunts who she lives with, which actually ended up being mostly about her mom and dad despite being heavily promoted by hasbro as a big special event for pride month, it just left a bad taste in my mouth. even in 2019 this was still the best mlp could give us

Since there was no Tumblr year in review this time around, I made my own! Ok, full disclosure, I was already going to make my own. For some reason I started tracking everything I posted back at the beginning of the year and last week I totaled things up just for my own information but then I thought…why not share it?

Law’s End: I call this a project, not just a new story because it was supposed to be a bit more far-reaching than just a story with character profiles, mock news articles, and multiple episodes. So far there are two character profiles (graphics for that by @harleybeaumont), one article, and many fabulous extras made by @secretaryunpaid. I am working on wrapping up episode one. Once the question of who killed Trent is answered, episode two will move on to a new mystery, while still focusing on the relationships between the main characters.

Word Warriors: Again, this is more than just a blog. It’s a Discord group, live discussions, a peer support group, and a critique group. The blog itself provides a list of writing resources and advice in addition to information about the Discord group, the live discussion schedule, and notes from past sessions.

Cordonia Royal Airlines: This is more of a collaborative project than a series. There will eventually be images posted as well as drabbles, one-shots, and chapters written by other contributors. (That’s the plan anyway.)

Personal Milestones Passed:

1,000 followers (now over 1,400 but waiting to hit 1,500 to post it)

1,000,000 words posted on Tumblr.

Published my first book in February.

Blog Shut Down:

Who could forget the infamous blog shutdown of 2023? It went down on July 25th and didn’t come back up until August 29th. Well, maybe everyone but me could forget it. I was in withdrawal lol. Five weeks of being mostly off Tumblr forced me to examine and reevaluate a lot of things. And even though I was thrilled to finally be unblocked, things aren’t the same. And that’s okay. Things change, life marches on.

I am by no means saying I’m out of here. Never fear. As long as I have fanfiction to write, I suppose I’ll be posting it here. I just feel less and less like working on my TRR stuff. I still want to finish the series I’ve started, and I’ve found I still have plenty of ideas for one-shots or short miniseries, but I’m not sure I have another epic, long TRR saga in me. Who knows, though? I’ve said that before and been proven wrong. I don’t control when inspiration happens or where the muse takes me.

I don’t know the fate of all those side blogs yet. Since I recently reorganized my master list, (yet again), I don’t know that they are needed. For now, they will remain as basically parking lots. Just a different way to organize my content.

The Rest of Tumblr:

2023 was the year I finally figured out how Tumblr works! I now understand the phrase shitposting on main. I discovered the rest of Tumblr, not just this little corner of it. From Goncharov to other fandoms to the existence of entire communities that I belong wholeheartedly to: Queer, neurodivergent, polyamorous, writers, etc. I found my people on this hell site.

What’s Next:

The Choices fandom will always have a special place in my heart, and I have made real, lifelong friends here and for that, I’ll always be grateful. My just over two years here have had their ups and downs for sure, but the ups far outweigh the downs. (If they didn’t, I would have left long ago).

And @harleybeaumont got me to play Heaven's Secret (#romanceclub) and not going to lie, no choose your own adventure story has grabbed my attention like this since TRR. And yes, there is already a folder marked “Heaven’s Secret” on my laptop with three WIPs in it!

Then there’s my original fiction. Long before I found Tumblr and got bitten by the fanfic bug, I was posting flash fic on my own website, saving short stories for submission to anthologies, and working on a few different original novels. I want to get back to that. Not to mention a lifetime worth of poetry that needs to be sorted, organized, and published.

All of the above may have to be put on hold as I navigate life with constant volleyball tournaments, a continuing search for the right second career, and a burgeoning business to manage and contend with. Not to mention a five-year-old with high energy, high needs, and high sensory-seeking behaviors. Life is complex on the best days.

Meanwhile, I’ve found that I really enjoy running the discussions for Word Warriors, giving feedback on other people’s work, and helping other writers on their journey. I can’t wait to get back to that in January.

I don’t know what 2024 holds but I am wishing the best for each and every one of you. Let life’s adventures continue!

Say the Word (T, 5k words) The aforementioned Queen fic where Aziraphale helps Brian May with his astrophysics research and Crowley makes a deal with Freddie Mercury.

Like an Angel (T, 1600 words) The classic "heard a Hozier song and wrote this in an hour" fic. A fluffy snippet Aziraphale and Crowley in the Garden ft. tender wing grooming.

Break Up, Break Through (T, 2k words) Post S2 reaction fic. The Bentley has enough of Crowley's moping, which it communicates in song and by kidnapping him back to Soho. Maggie and Nina have to deal with a maudlin demon.

Here I Am (G, 6k words) My first multi chapter fic AND my first AU. This is the first installment in a Church AU series with Priest!Crowley and Aziraphale as the music and liturgy director of the parish. Crowley arrives at the Church of All Angels, Tadfield as the new interim priest. Chaos ensues.

The Fellowship of Christian Minds (T, 10k words) The second installment in the Church AU. Crowley and Aziraphale learn how to work together amid church drama, parishioner gossip, and their own foibles.

Yes! I love getting responses from authors, so I do my best to respond.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Break Up, Break Through is the closest to angsty I've got, though I tried to give it a hopeful vibe. I don't like to leave things on an angsty note, ha!

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Say the Word has the happiest, fluffiest ending, with a reference to "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy" as "their song."

Do you get hate on fics?

No, not so far! I hope it stays that way tbh.

Do you write smut?

I've been too scared to so far, though I can see myself working up to it in the future.

Does the Queen fic count as a crossover? If so, that's all I've got in that arena. I suppose you could characterize the Church AU as influenced by The Vicar of Dibley in terms of vibes, though it's not an official crossover.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of!

No, though I would love it if someone wanted to!

No, it's just been me so far. I think it would be fun to do at some point!

The Ineffables are apparently my ride or die forever. I can't let them go!

What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I don't have any languishing WIPs because I don't really let myself start things I don't plan to finish, at least so far. I've only been writing fic for about a year now, though, so there's always a possibility.

What are your writing strengths?

I'm really pleased with my references and throwbacks to canon, generally, especially in AUs. I like to think I'm good at dialogue and getting character voices right, though that's so subjective. I know I can hear them saying it in my head when I'm writing, and I hope that translates!

What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm still figuring out how plot works, and making the transition from more argumentative writing to fiction has been a fun challenge! My beta reader has helped me edit out "thesis statements" from my fics, lol.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I'm here for it! I'm not verbally fluent in another language, but I have reading knowledge of several dead ones (see my Latin usernames). I love a bit of multilingualism, though I worry that Latin in particular will either come off as pretentious or like I'm summoning a demon on accident.

First fandom you wrote in?

I wrote some for Tamora Pierce's Immortals series back in the FF.net days. I'm such a sucker for a heroine who can both talk to animals and shapeshift into them.

Favorite fic you've written?

Why do I have to choose??? Say the Word will always have a place in my heart as the one that got me into writing for fun again, and for how well my research on it helped it come together! I'm also really enjoying writing the Church AU because it's such a self-indulgent one for me. I do love all the priest smut in the fandom (and there is A LOT of excellent priest smut), but as I was reading it I wanted more of a look into the day-to-day hilarity of church life, so I decided to be the change I wanted to see in the world.

I cannot deal with these people who has a compulsive need to defend William and Catherine over anything. They’re not perfect, no one is, and disagreeing over things is allowed. Just today I saw someone on twitter getting attacked for doing her monthly court circular updates on Charles, Camilla, William and Catherine, and because Catherine has 0 people went mental (mind, this isn’t the first time I’ve seen that account getting piled on because they dare to post their court circular count which shows that WC isn’t exactly at the top (anyone who posts their count is by a certain group of “fans)).

I totally agree with you that William having taken 3 weeks off from work shows his huge amount of privilege, and that it would probably be very possible for him to have done something during the time the children are in school — he just doesn’t want to.

In fact, the entire Kensington Palace household seems to have taken a leave of absence, this week was the first year anniversary of Shaping Us and what have KP done? Nothing, that’s right. Catherine is not working for legitimate reasons, but she’s got a big team who can brief the media that she’s sorry to be missing engagements and that she’ll work from home, but they can’t do even the smallest basic thing like a retweet. Ultimately it’s WC who employs these people but at times like these the ones at the top of the household staff has to be able to do their work, plan and delegate for things anyway.

It's actually important to criticise those you look up to. Criticism is how one grows. Supporting people blindly without accepting faults is a cult, not a fandom. Ironically, the very thing many Wales fans say about others.

KP's incompetence is nothing new. At the very least, they should be doing throwbacks and catching up. There are so many things they could do and honestly, their incompetence in social media genuinely makes me feel better about my own. But there we are, LOL

BTS Fic ask! Was gonna do Nightsongs, but since it's still ongoing, here's a throwback.

Like I Am Safe Again: 7, 10, 26

Oooooh, now that's a fun one! It's hard for me to tell if that fic is just unpopular with people, or if folks don't have much to say about it (tbh both are reasonable) but it's one of my favorite things I've written for the fandom lol. Thanks for asking about this one 💜

7. What inspired the idea for the plot?

Other than the fact that expanding on "memory" for Shadowheart is one of my favorite things to do, it was a couple things! I was finishing up a reread of the Realm of Elderlings series, and I've always resonated with "outsider" characters in pretty much everything I read/watch/play. People that are, through their own actions or happenstance, sidelined in their own lives is very fascinating to me. That feeling of never being able to actually reach out and interact with others in a meaningful way because of what they've done, said, or because of who they think themselves to be is creative catnip for me. My love of that series and those types of (frustrating) character moments influenced the way Shadowheart in that fic continually tries to manage everything herself without once relying on people that would immediately help her. At least, at first. Shadowheart has a lot of (mostly appearance-based tbqh) benefits other outsider-types don't get, but trying to focus on the aspects of her that disconnect her from the others at that point in the timeline (namely her early secrecy, her mid-game zealotry/hesitancy) intersected really well with my canon divergence from the first part of that series. There are clear themes of repression, self-ostracization, and insecurity within her storyline that I just love. I was also obsessed with exploring her character that way after I had the thought: "how does someone who already deals with memory issues handle dissociation?"

10. Share a screenshot of the original outline.

OK, so my outlining method for that fic was kinda unhinged. I think I had an outline at one point, but it was probably a bullet point system. At some point, I either deleted it or it was never actually written down? Either way, I know the original version was actually a long one-shot like "It Is the Wound She Gave Me" but it kept getting longer and longer. Then it became three chapters/three mornings. Then I kept adding moments to expand and expand, and eventually I just had to admit that it should probably be a short multichapter lol. Some bits I know that I changed: Chapter one used to be just the "prayer at the tree" scene, Chapter two didn't have the fireside chat/episode until I was nearly done writing the whole thing, and the Epilogue didn't exist until I realized ending on Chapter four left things a little too bleakly open for me.

26. Wild Card! I'll tell you a fun fact about this fic!

Despite being named after a Cure song, I never once listened to The Cure while writing it.

i dont consider myself an Active member of the jnd fandom but its been a pretty big interest of mine since i played the first game on ps2 when i was rly little and i get back into it pretty intensely for short periods of time every now and then (throwback to when i did my rewrite/au thing and made a bunch of art over like a week and then totally dropped out of it again LOL)

but ya i'd like to make more friends in the jnd fandom if i can..! i have like nobody to talk about it about and i feel weird just screaming about it into the void here ;v; ... (i am part of a server but im too shy to speak in there much x'D so here i am)

never listen but i see it with my eyes closed is the fever-dream of a canon-divergent fix-it fic I wrote (mostly) in December 2021 / my life was Actively On Fire at the time and it shows. First thing I wrote for the babes and I do side-eye some of my characterization choices in hindsight but... they were new to me and I was trying. Only longfic I've ever managed to finish.

one bright moment is all i ask is a throwback to a fic format that was popular circa like 2016 and one of the most fun little things I've written. (As you will see, everything is my favorite.)

shoot for the memory so you can forget me is a missing scene that can be blamed on a few things, but mostly the fact that that was the moment when I became Insufferable in a relatively packed movie theater. (There is Lore related to how this fandom spiral happened to me and it comes up kinda frequently...)

take his body as a relic to be canonized - the summary I posted on ao3 for this is "last thoughts of a dying man" and it is EXACTLY what it says on the tin. I broke my informal personal rule against writing death scenes for this one and I think I hit the fucked-up gorgeousness of it.

nothing in the world - the knife-kink fic, another thing that haunts me forever. There's a little context that I think is in the notes, but it's very... not the kind of content I usually write and I do love it.

give you my wild - the rituals fic, take 2. The original version of that concept was courtesy of an ex who I broke up with BECAUSE of this spiral (long story); this, written about a year later, is a softer version and twice as long.

prompt-comps, in order: i hope my love was someone else's solid ground, i never fall outside of love, i'd live and die for moments that we stole, sit awake until the wild feelings leave you (current / active one). This is where most of my fic HAPPENS / I like doing prompts that people send me, there's something about the responsiveness that works well for my process. I format them in sets of 50 for housekeeping purposes. Mostly canon'verse, occasional modern AU / me kicking myself for not writing as much modern AU as I want, "moments that we stole" has a few segments of a different canon-divergent AU that I need to do more with...

pillars - my new favorite and I'm not saying anything about it beyond that I wrote something I have spent two and a half years avoiding and it only broke me once.

my first oc was an oc for the big time rush fandom @raging-violets this will be a throwback lol, named macie! she was like the first time i had the idea for an oc and actively tried to write for her. was she INCREDIBLY marysue? yes. was she also my babygirl? also yes

here’s five fun facts about her!

she’s latina (i never decided fully on what her ethnicity is, but she’s half latina and speaks semi fluent spanish)

of the btr boys, she’d be closest to kendall and carlos. kendall bc he sees her as a mini katie and would take her under his wing as a lil sister, and carlos bc they would bond over being latino in the music industry and also i think she’s look up to him (both literally and figuratively)

her relationship with her mom is…very complicated. she was abusive for many years but has now gotten “better” and has moved on and has a new family that she treats significantly better than she did with macie and her sisters and her dad. on her 16th birthday, she gets a letter from her mom basically explaining why she did what she did and that she wants a relationship with macie and macie is like idfk what to do

my original fc for her was mckenna grace (don’t ask questions okay) but now i think either madison reyes or xochitl gomez would be who i’d choose now!

and for lucky number five, her first debut album would be called aristole and it would have similarish vibes to taylor swift’s ttpd!

first fic (on ao3): perspective, a star wars (legends) eu rarepair fic that i wrote for yuletide in 2011 that honestly was like pulling teeth at the time and i don’t think i’ve ever reread. i crossposted and then deleted some social network fic but i honestly don’t remember if i ever backdated any of it correctly anyway so this is probably the first one regardless since i got an ao3 specifically to participate in yuletide in 2011

last fic: make a better mistake, the brady/quinn home by now timestamp i put on here the other day. i don’t have much to say about this really except that it was fun to write out one of the bits of their backstory, which i have a lot of thoughts and feelings about

fic for a fandom/ship i only wrote once: don’t read the last page, broadchurch pornography i wrote in the year of someone’s lord 2021 after rewatching because my mom hadn’t seen it and wanted to. i wrote so much het porn in 2021 and yet i still can barely bring myself to write any of the common slang terms for vagina 💀

favorite fic in the fandom/ship with the most works: well in the summer of 2012 i was possessed by demons and wrote two then-avengers/now-mcu fics but i can’t say i like either of them. i guess i think this one is better, if pressed. honestly i don't feel a need to delete them but i am glad that no one ever seems to read them lol

fic i wish more people read: the sky is big enough, which i feel like i've said before! i really like how it came together but dropping 15k unannounced and unheralded on a medium-sized fandom and peacing out isn't exactly the best way to attract readers 😂 at least it exists for me to pretend is part of the game of thrones canon

fic you agonized over the most: this is kind of a toss-up. on the one hand, it took me the better part of six months to write preference, which clocks in at a not actually all that long 37k, because for mysterious reasons it was just a really slow story for me to pick through and i had to put a lot of thought into what i could do with each scene since the structure (which i imposed on myself btw. i made this problem) is so limiting. on the other hand the actual writing sessions for home by now were easy and productive but the story took ten whole entire months of my life, a major characterization revision just under halfway through, and a major pacing evening-out three quarters of the way through. both involved a lot of crying about whether the story was actually good.

fic that sprang fully formed from my mind without any effort: okay this is a throwback and also such a rarepair as in the only fic in the tag but years ago i wrote jt compher/his college teammate kevin lohan and it was just such an enjoyable story to write because i had a clear vision of the arc and it came together neatly and the non-linear structure meant i got to play with some fun juxtaposition. anyway: instructions for dancing

a story i'm proud of: this is not the end. was this a ridiculous thing to write in any year, much less the year 2020? sure. but write it i did, and it was the first novel-length story i ever successfully wrote, much less completed and edited and posted. and i think it's a nice story! proud of myself for getting over the long story hump and proud of myself for doing it while also doing graduate school. and proud of myself for finding something to do with my time so that my entire life didn't just become work and grad school in 2020.
