Malcolm did NOT want you as a partner at first

He’s had plenty of experience with getting paired with someone just to do all the work

But you prove to him that even though you’re not a super genius like him, you can do your part

“Hey, Malcolm, right?” You asked your new lab partner as you sat beside him. You knew who he was; practically everyone in school did, whether they wanted to or not. But you didn’t really know how else to start a conversation.

“Yeah, and you’re Y/n?” He asked in return. Malcolm also knew who you were, because he read the sheet that had your names paired up together, but he decided to try to be polite. When you nodded, he went into the usual spiel he did whenever he got paired with someone who wasn’t a former Krelboyne or seemed like they wouldn’t pull their own weight. “Okay, look, I’m fine with doing all the work. I can do the labs, write the reports, and help you with answers. But I will not cheat and do the final for you or-”

“Woah, woah, slow down, Malcolm.” You laughed, but it was more of a ‘what the hell is this guy talking about’ kind of laugh. “You don’t have to do that, man. I can do my share.”

Malcolm seemed taken aback by this. Usually, people would just wave him off and let him work while they goofed around. He didn’t really know how to proceed.

“Oh, okay. Umm…” He looked around, trying to find something for you to do. Just because you say you can do the work doesn’t mean he believes you or necessarily wants you to. “Wanna wash the beakers and vials?”

“Very funny, Malcolm.” You grabbed the lab instructions that lay in front of Malcolm and scanned them over. “Okay, grab the vials with blue and green liquid. We gotta mix them.”

“What are you doing?” He asked, hesitantly grabbing the vials like you instructed. You rolled your eyes. For a genius, he seemed to lack some common sense.

“Doing my share, genius.” You pulled out a beaker so you could mix the liquids. “Just because I’m not a Krelboyne doesn’t mean I can’t read instructions.”

You start to grow on him after that

He’s not used to people tolerating him

If they do, they usually get annoyed with him very quickly

So the fact that you wanna hang out with him outside of class is so surprising

It had been a week since you finished your first lab project, and your teacher had finally finished grading. Your teacher had given you a joint grade for the project and individual grades for the work you each put into it, so you made sure to brag to Malcolm that you had gotten an A on your individual grading.

“Okay, okay, I get it.” Malcolm pushed away your grade report with a laugh as you continuously shoved it in his face. 

“I can’t believe I proved Malcolm Wilkerson wrong. I feel on top of the world right now.”

“Well, don’t get used to it. It was a one-time thing.” The bell rang, and you grabbed your things, exiting the classroom. 

Despite the occasional attitude and what everyone says about him, you actually liked hanging out with Malcolm. And maybe it was just your imagination, but you felt like he also enjoyed your company. You didn’t want the end of your lab project to also be the end of the friendship that was starting to form.

“So, listen…” Not wanting to be one of those annoying people that just stood in the middle of a busy hallway, you pulled Malcolm to stand against the wall with you. He looked at you attentively. “There’s gonna be a party this weekend. I don’t know if you’re doing anything, but I was wondering if you wanted to go. Or whatever, I dunno.” You suddenly felt embarrassed for hoping so much he would say yes.

“Sure!” The somewhat enthusiastic response shocked you a bit. “Sounds fun.”

“Nice, cool. I’ll, uh, I’ll give you the details later, but I gotta go to class.” You said a quick goodbye and sped away to your next period. Now, you felt slightly embarrassed by how happy you felt that Malcolm said yes. But that didn’t stop you from silently celebrating that he did.

After hanging out outside of class for non-class reasons, you and Malcolm quickly become good friends

He likes that he can do normal stuff with you, things he can’t do with his other friends

Now whenever he’s not with Stevie, he’s most likely with you

You probably realize you like him during one of your outings together

Tonight felt like a night that came once in a blue moon. It was a night that both of you were free from responsibilities, and one of you had enough money to do something besides hang around a convenience store. Since Malcolm was the one with the spending money this time, he got to choose what you would do.

“I don’t know, man. The trailer looked kind of boring.” You kicked at the movie theater carpet as you and Malcolm waited in line. He nudged you with his shoulder.

“Oh, come on, Y/n. Give it a chance.”

“I’ll give it a chance if I have a large popcorn.” He laughed at your attempt at negotiation. 

“Fine, but if we get a large, we gotta share a drink.”

“Fine with me if it’s fine with you.” You shrugged. Soon you were sat in a theater, a big bucket of popcorn in your lap and a drink with two straws in the cupholder between your and Malcolm’s seats.

You liked hanging out with Malcolm like this. There were no stressors like family or work. Just you, him, and something to enjoy. He was always noticeably calmer, more relaxed when you were together like this.

As the lights dimmed and previews started to play, you snuck a look at Malcolm. He looked so peaceful as he watched the screen, occasionally commenting on a trailer or how you should see that movie when it comes out. If you didn’t know better, you’d say he looked kind of pretty like this.

Good thing you knew better.

When the movie started, Malcolm reached over to grab a handful of popcorn. Your eyes subtly widened when you felt the slight pressure on your lap. You immediately looked forward, staring at the screen.

Maybe you didn’t know better.

You feel a little awkward around Malcolm after your little revelation

But you try to not let your feelings get in the way of your friendship

I think Malcolm would realize he likes you when he sees how you interact with his family

“Crap,” Malcolm whispered as he heard the front door open. He invited you over to study, thinking you’d have the house to yourselves. If he knew that his parents would get off work early and his brothers would be running around the house, he would’ve suggested going to your house or the library.

“What is it?” You asked, not really paying attention. The class you were currently studying for was kind of kicking your ass, so you were putting all your energy into trying to understand Shakespeare.

“My family’s home.” You tore yourself from your book when you picked up his dreaded tone.

“So?” You were confused. Yes, you’ve heard stories of how Malcolm’s family can be. But you’ve met them all before, and they seemed fine. And looking at them now, they seemed like a regular family, except maybe a little bit high-strung.

“So, I don’t want them scaring you off.”

“Oh, hi, Y/n.” Lois greeted you from the kitchen, catching you and Malcolm off guard from your conversation. “What are you guys working on?” She asked, pulling something out of the freezer for dinner.

“Romeo and Juliet,” Malcolm answered, suddenly annoyed that he had to share details of his day with his mom.

“Shakespeare is kicking my butt.” You added on. “I mean, I just don’t get it. The words are weird, and the story is stupid. Romeo and Juliet are stupid.”

“Of course they’re stupid; they’re teenagers.” You laughed at Lois’ response, and she gave you a small but seemingly genuine smile. “Are you staying for dinner?”

“Oh, no! I don’t wanna bother you, Mrs. Wilkerson.”

“Don’t be silly; you’re already here. You can call your mom, and Malcolm can take you home after.” You looked at Malcolm.

“Would you mind?” You asked quietly.

“Um… I mean, if you wanna stay, I can take you home.” Grinning at his confirmation, you got up and raced to the phone on the kitchen wall to dial your mom’s number.

Through the entire conversation you had with his mom, and honestly, the rest of the night, Malcolm couldn’t help but watch how you interacted with his family. This was the first time you’ve been around his entire family, minus Francis because he didn’t live at home. Malcolm kept you away from his family as a group on purpose because he was scared that the way they clashed with each other and the effect they had on others would scare you off.

But as he watched you enthusiastically talk to Dewey about his interests in piano and composing or with his father about his niche interest of the week, he was surprised to see how natural you seemed with all of them. It was like you were the missing puzzle piece to their chaos, to his chaos. Malcolm wanted you to stay as long as you could.

Maybe he wanted you to stay for him more than for everyone, but he didn’t care.

It takes a little while for you to admit your feelings for each other

Not only were you guys scared of rejection, but you were also scared of ruining your friendship

You two are basically suffering in silence

That all changes when you’re sneaking home after a party

“That shit was insane.” You cackled as you and Malcolm walked down the street, hanging off of each other. You both were slightly tipsy, you more than Malcolm, but not enough to forget your way home. “I did not expect that chick to start dancing on the table.”

“Me neither. I’m surprised she didn’t fall off.” You both laughed harder. When you got closer to your house, you put a finger to Malcolm’s lips to silence him. You were lucky you still had a bit of a filter because his lips felt nice. He put his hand to your mouth because even though you were supposed to be quiet, you were being so loud without realizing it. You were again thankful for your filter, because now you wanted more than just his hand on your lips. “Y/n, you gotta be quiet.”

“Fine.” You whispered in a drunken giggle, slightly muffled by his hand. After promising each other to be quiet, you unlocked the front door. Luckily, your parents were dead asleep, so the two of you easily snuck up to your room.

“Do you think you’ll be okay by yourself?” Malcolm asked, setting you down on your bed. 

“Nooo, don’t go. Pretty please.” You sealed your begging with pouty lips and puppy dog eyes. He sighed, expression softening to something you had been seeing a lot of recently but couldn’t decipher. But you liked this look a lot because he was giving it to you. Malcolm sat next to you, patting your knee.

“Fine, but just a couple minutes.” 

It’s like you weren’t thinking. Your brain was all gooey from Malcolm and alcohol. You were so excited, and he was so close to you, you couldn’t help but lean toward him and peck him on the lips. Immediately, you panicked and stood up from your bed, the speed dizzying.

“Fuck.”

“Y/n, it’s okay.” He stood up, hands stretched out in front of you to try to calm you down. But it was like you couldn’t hear him.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck. I’m so sorry. I can’t believe I did that. I wasn’t think-” Malcolm cut you off by grabbing your face and pulling you towards him. The way he kissed you made your head spin, although it might’ve been from the force of the pull. It felt like he was waiting to do this his entire life, like he was waiting solely for you.

You broke apart before you could get any more heated. You had to remind yourself that your parents were down the hall and that Malcolm wasn’t even supposed to be here. He rested his forehead on yours, the constant proximity calming you.

“Don’t be sorry.” He whispered, a hand toying with the edge of your shirt.

“I thought you only liked girls.” You muttered, suddenly confused by everything. It may have had something to do with the alcohol. He laughed a little.

“Yeah, well, I thought you did too.”

“I guess I proved you wrong again.” The two of you smiled, thinking back to how this entire thing started. “Don’t get used to it.” Malcolm kissed you again, and God, you wanted him to do it again and again and never stop.

went to a music store with my moms today to get some cool vinyls and i took a while looking around and picking stuff out so by the time i was at the counter buying em i didnt see my moms and figured ah they probably went back to the car. and when i walked out of the store a nice person who seemed about my age saw my chicken bag (which i am always wearing out, obviously) and was like 'your purse is so cute!!!' and i said thx and was all smiley abt it but i still didnt see my moms outside, so i called one of their phones and was like hey where r u guys parked and she was like im in the spot we parked in to get here but i thought [other mom] was still in the store with you? and i was confused because i hadnt seen her (though in hindsight i get very absorbed in album covers and browsing when im in a music store lol)

anyways we were trying to figure out where she may have gone when she stepped out next to me and i was like oh nevermind shes here. and she was confused cus i guess she noticed i wasnt in the store anymore a couple mins after i left and she went to the cashier at the front and said 'hey im looking for my daughter have you happened to see-' and he was like 'did she have a chicken bag? cus if so she just left'

the moral of the story is that my chicken bag is really good and also apparently the most noticeable thing about me in public which is much more ideal than having anyone perceive my human form

With the Bakugo dravble, it's funny because we went through what it discussed. Went in knowing he's hot, came out with the everyday mundane that you can't help but love. If you wanna do more like that, I'd say go for it! And, it'd be funny if, like, him and reader were going at it and suddenly he's like "fuck...I forgot to get xxx ingredients to use for tomorrow's leftovers. We gotta finish this quick so I can make it to the supermarket in time." Like, way to ruin the mood, but also bring the mood up because it's just so domestic and cute and I'd be giggling and he'd probably be embarrassed and/or telling me to stop because as he just said, he's gotta hurry. You just can't NOT love the guy, no matter what.

Honestly, my personal headcanon for him is that he’s so focused on his hero work that stuff like fashion, romance, etc. probably seem very trivial and unnecessary to him. Not that he doesn’t love you, but if you try to sext him he’s just like “anyway... like i was saying....”

(i know this kinda goes against his parents being fashion designers but he doesn’t seem connected to that world at all and honestly... he’s constantly wearing a skull tshirt and jeans???? fashion legend i guess) 

and honestly to me this is really intriguing and kinda a good thing, since I just see him as a really, down to earth, focused guy who values working hard over everything, you know?? And as someone who thinks that looks aren’t reflective of the things that people value or their personality. 

to him, Romance is abt being with someone, not really abt making a show of it, and if he likes you, he likes you, no matter what. 

This is really why i end up writing bakugo in a more boring light, simply because i feel like he cares too much abt being strong to care abt the things he considers “stupid” (aka: things that dont revolve around being a hero). 

like yea he knows he’s dummi attractive but at the same time i feel like it would piss him off to know that someone only liked him for his body/looks and not all the cool things he’s done or believes in.

But he always ends up giggling because he’s so giddy about being with you

He then goes an unreal shade of scarlet as he covers his face, muttering that he ‘can’t believe that he actually did it’! 

It takes him a while to finally gather up the courage to properly kiss you

Like.... a very long time

You were starting to get worried that he didn’t actually like you

Maybe he was just too nervous to tell you that it wasn’t working for him

buT NOPE

On one certain date, Hyunjin had prepared a cute little dinner on the practice room floor

He was so apologetic about the poor setting, but finally had stopped saying sorry when you’d told him for the 2376129th time that you were having fun

At some point, he just went uber silent, watching you not in a creepy way

You eventually noticed, and just stared back

“What?”

He didn’t say anything, but his eyes did widen a wee bit

“What are you lookin at, you’re sorta scaring m-”

He cut you off and just kissed you

BOI YOU WERE SO SHOCKED

Afterwards you both just stared at each other

And then Hyunjin goes all red

“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to do that I’m sorry that was stupid you can slap me if you want!!!!”

“Bruh why would I want to slap you?!”

“You don’t hate me?”

facepalms for days

You meet the other boys only a few minutes later

Go figure

You’re talking casually, the embarrassment from the kiss wearing off

They all come stampeding into the practice room making an ungodly racket

And all go quiet when they realize what they’ve done

Changbin, bless him, tries to reduce the awful level of awkwardness: “*cough* uh hey, Hyunjin.... This must be y/n right?” He waves at you. “We’ve heard a lot about you, Hyunjin never stops talking about you”

He misses the death glare Hyunjin shoots him

Then Jisung

Freakin Jisung, man

Waltzes up: “Hyunjin’s cheeks are really pink”. He gives a cheeky smile. “You didn’t kiss did you?”

The room goes as quiet as a tomb

“OH SHIT YOU DIDN’T ACTUALLY KISS DID YOU????”

Of course Hyunjin completely loses his shit at the sight of you turning a deep red. “GODDAMMIT JISUNG STFU”

Ye your first meeting with SKZ wasn’t the best

But you all bonded rather quickly after

And Jisung buys you little snacks sometimes as an apology for your first awkward meeting

OH GOD THE BOYS ADORE YOU

If you’re ever sick, they always get snacks for Hyunjin to give you

And if you’re really under the weather, they’ll cover for Hyunjin so that he can stay with you and take care of you.

He wraps you in blankets

YOU ARE NOW A BURRITO

And tries to make soup for you

We know what cooking!Hyunjin leads to

You’re chilling on the couch and you suddenly hear a high-pitched scream

You’re up and sprinting to the kitchen at the speed of light still wrapped in a burrito

To find him fanning at a smoking pot

“WHAT THE FUCK HYUNJIN YOU JUST NEED TO HEAT IT UP HOW DID YOU START A MINI FIRE?”

You’re home doesn’t burn down thank goodness

And you end up heating some soup for yourself while Hyunjin watches

And it’s! hilarious! when he’s sick!

He becomes a little ten-year-old istg

But in a really cute way

He doesn’t ask for anything: food, to watch TV etc

Nah he just wants cuddles

The whole damn day

So while you’re struggling to keep a mask on and not getting sneezed on, this idiot is smiling like a puppy if puppies could smile, clinging onto you like a love-filled leach did that sound weird? i think that sounded really weird

Now idk what this dude is afraid of

Something tells me one big fear would be to lose Stray Kids and the people he loves

And so I think he’d get kinda nervous when you both see less of each other and when he gets busier

You can’t talk as much because of his crazy schedule and with lack of sleep, he starts getting more irritated easier during the little intervals of time you get to see each other

At some point he might snap at you, maybe for no reason at all, and you’ll snap back indignantly

Yeah you love him but you’re not taking any attitude

If things get really bad, he just shakes his head, saying he needs some air

You’ll both give yourselves some space, but eventually Hyunjin becomes terrified that you’re too angry with him to talk again

So he goes to find you and talk

You both hug it out and decide to spent the rest of the day together for more quality time

And it’s totally worth Hyunjin getting an earful from Chan the next day

OK back to fluff quickly quickly

On the days Hyunjin goes somewhere, you sometimes join him in the car ride, tho you’re always super careful to never show your face when he gets out

Gotta stay hidden yknow?

You’ll both send cute little texts throughout the day and OOF just couple goals

So if he even steps foot in the dorms’ kitchen

You bet that at least two other of his hyungs will follow for pure supervision

And he is not, under any circumstances, allowed to cook something by himself

Although, you’re allowed to cook together as long as you watch what he’s doing

If anything at all goes wrong, the blame is pinned on you

So it’s natural for you to treat these cooking projects as once-in-a-while occasions

Now when you ask about meeting his parents

Holy Hell

Stutters, clammy hands, flitting eyes, you name it

Hyunjin is so frickin nervous about you meeting his parents oof

You don’t understand why, like hey, how bad could it be right?

But pretty soon you get why Jinnie was nervous

His parents aren’t that trusting within the first hour of knowing you

You guess it might be because of poor past experiences?

Maybe Hyunjin had been judged or dated once too many times just for his looks?

The thought is enough to make you swear by all you know to always treat him like a treasure

You also make a mental note to ask him sometime

Eventually, his parents realize you have pure intentions and they become so much kinder and warmer

They let you know how welcome you are to visit whenever you want, they offer to send you off with some homemade cookies...

And Hyunjin gets so emotional at the beautiful site in front of him that he bursts into tears

Which causes you and his parents to tease and hug him

if you’re thick, let’s just be clear that im making a statement on how you should NOT judge Jinnie purely because he’s good looking, appreciate his talent!

Now, Hyunjin is kinda tall compared to the rest of SKZ hah im joking of course so it’s pure instinct to want to steal his shirts

Don’t lie, if you had the chance, you would take something i see right thru u

And at some point in your life, you stop realizing ‘hey, this isn’t my jumper!’ and just walk around in clothes that aren’t yours

And when this happens, three things follow:

You see a wild Hyunjin crashing through the apartment towards you, yelling happily that ‘that’s my favorite hoodie!!’ he tries to act like he’s angry and fails in 0.0000003 sec

He doesn’t slow down and freakin slams into you at full velocity, knocking you over or off anything you might be sitting on

He proceeds to tickle you mercilessly, until you either can’t breath and turn purple or until you commit an extreme act of violence in the name of self defense

Once this chaotic episode ends, most of the time with both of you are completely knackered and just lying on the floor

You both cool off by just cuddling and watching something on TV

Or reading something together!!!

I can totally see Hyunjin shoving one of his fav books in your face and insisting that you both take turns in reading aloud to each other

And you both react at the same time to shockers in the book, like you start crying together when a character dies who hasn’t had that traumatic experience or you both squeal with joy and hug each other tighter when something great happens

Did I just turn into a puddle of happy goo?

I think Hyunjin wouldn’t take that long to tell you that he loves you

When he finishes one of his more dramatic dances, you jump up with glee and tackle him in a hug despite him being sweaty, saying how proud you are

He hugs you back happily and says:

“I should be the proud one, having someone I love so much being so supportive of me”.

You both freeze, still hugging each other

And neither of you move or breathe for a moment

• The lower part is louder than usual, which actually works quite nicely

• They just left it raised for him to do nothing on and then got rid of it completely

• This is awful

• They changed the tune a tiny bit which is fine I guess, not as satisfying though

• His voice is good. With good lyrics and the original character, he could have done it really well

• I hate that potential was wasted

• Which, again, goes for the whole trainwreck of a musical

• I can’t make out all of the lyrics and I’m not sure if that’s a mild annoyance or a blessing

Sorry for the long wait. More notes at the end. Also I didn’t put a recap because this doesn’t immediately continue from chapter 3 (Monoma leaving Nezu’s office). Don’t worry, I provide context. Read on, I hope you enjoy this.

The buzz from his phone made Monoma stir from the menial task of hanging up his blazer. He picked it up, a faint smile gracing his lips at the notification. 

Kendo: Hey

Monoma: Hi, what’s up?

Kendo: R u free?

Monoma: Yeah, just got home, and there’s not much to do. You?

Kendo: On the train now.

Monoma: I see. How was today? 

Kendo: Crazy, it’s only been the second day and so much has happened. 

Monoma: Yeah, definitely didn’t expect an alarm to go off. 

Admittedly, it had startled him from his meal, but he hadn’t panicked and dashed for the exit like the rabble. Imagine U.A students being scared of an alarm, he scoffed internally. He instead peered out the window to see the horde of reporters barging onto the compound, which made him question the true disparity between adults and teenagers. Apparently, some of the others from 1A had noticed the media too.  

Kendo: Ikr, and apparently the seniors had never had it happen before. I heard one of them telling one of the 1A students. 

Monoma: Wow, was it the same guy who flew to the ceiling? The guy with spectacles? 

Kendo: I think so. That was brave of him :O 

Monoma: Mmhmm. 

It was more humorous than brave, seeing that caricature of a rectangle slam against the wall and holler, but Neito kept that to himself. Thinking about the authority that radiated from that person, another thought occurred to him which he typed out. 

Oh yeah, congrats on your appointment by the way.

Kendo: Ah, thanks heh. Hope I can do y’all proud. 

For its chairpersons, the class decided for a free-for-all vote similar to what 1A did, where everyone essentially voted for themselves, the rationale being that those willing to give up their vote for themselves in favour of one of their peers meant something. Despite the gaping flaws in logic, Monoma found himself being one of those very people who helped get Kendo to where she was. 

Although, he kept quiet about that. Sure, he would have wanted to become chairperson. What better way of drawing the spotlight to himself? That...that was one of the reasons he chose to enter the hero course...Still, he had reasons as to why he cast his vote for her, one of which he lacked the courage to admit to himself, much less engrave in prose. 

Monoma: Don’t worry, you’ll do great. 

Kendo: :D thx. 

Oh yeah, what happened yesterday after school? 

He found himself typing an answer even before her next message was received, his heart skipping a beat at the thought that she cared enough to ask why he wasn’t there yesterday. 

Don’t have to answer if it’s private >< 

Monoma: Nah, it’s fine. I was meeting the principal. 

Kendo: o_O Nezu? Wow, did you do something? 

Monoma: No, I’m taking lessons from him. 

Kendo: Whaaaat? That’s awesome! What r u learning? 

He grinned a bit, imagining Kendo saying that in person, with her jaw dropped. 

Monoma: Well, he told me to do some pre-reading on a book about ethics of quirk usage. Maybe something about morality or philosophy? 

Kendo: Sounds cool. Why’d he choose you though? 

Neito grimaced. His fingers hovered over the screen for a moment before he typed out his answer, feeling a pang of guilt. His attempt to reason that it was a partial truth tasted bitter on his mind. 

Monoma: No idea. Might be because of my quirk. 

Kendo: That makes sense. It’s a unique one. 

Monoma: That’s a nice way of putting it. 

Nicer than what others have said about his quirk, at least. He wondered if she would catch that undertone in his message. 

Kendo was typing....Nothing….Kendo was typing...His heart dared to soar. 

Kendo: I mean, it is. You can theoretically use every quirk. Imagine using more than one quirk. That’d be insane.

Ah.

Monoma: Well, not every quirk. I can’t use quirks that require stored power, and I can only use one quirk at a time. But thanks.

Kendo: Oh, I c. Who knows, maybe you’ll be able to expand on that.

Monoma: Maybe. I don’t know. 

Would he? Was U.A that good of a school to really improve quirks to that extent? Even though the motto’s been repeated far too many times for his liking in two days, to break the limits of a quirk...Was that even possible? Did heroes do that? 

I’m gonna go take a shower, sorry. 

Kendo: Np. TTYL?

Monoma: Yeah, sure. 

Monoma put down the phone and frowned. Why’d you say that? His conscience snarled. Seeking some sympathy? She doesn’t care, she’s not going to pacify your ego if you speak in such a roundabout way. 

SIghing, he plopped down on his bed. Curb your dramatics. You’re not performing for anyone. Your room is a theatre – an empty one, that is. 

Nice to always have that voice keep him in check. Maybe calling it his conscience was inaccurate, but that voice, whatever it represented, helped disperse the fog of arrogance whenever it got too thick. It was a constant, insufferable, miserable reminder that Monoma was both a background character getting less than a second of screentime (if any) in the movie called the universe. 

And it partially sounded like his mother. Just a bit. 

Yet his ego liked to believe he was a main character in his own story, which he was, but what kind of story was it? Not an important one, surely. Therefore, it was necessary that these two sides clashed. Clashing like two titans, but that was his ego talking. It was really more like two puppies yapping at each other. 

Stop thinking you’re more important than you really are. 

This self-contemplation was annoying. He left his room feeling the stage fright get to him. A stage fright where he was both an audience and actor. In other words, he was scared of what he was thinking.

The clock read 0005. Ideally, Monoma would not even be reading those four numbers, but despite the school day tomorrow, the bright light from his phone lit up his face in the darkness of his room. A nightly ritual of his, scrolling through social media feeds. A ritual that drained his vitality and energy from the next day, but a ritual nonetheless. 

He read through some posts about procrastination, staying up late, and chuckled to himself, in his head. It might not have been hilarious, but it was empathetic. 

He watched a video about the scale of the universe relative to him. The next post encouraged him that his life experiences were important and unique to himself. 

Finally, he saw a meme on Romeo & Juliet, thought about it for a while, and then went to sleep.

Yeah, nearly a month since chapter 3 and I only have 1k words to show for it. Doesn’t say much, but I went through a ton of issues while writing this, including procrastination, writer’s block and not knowing what this story should be about besides Monokendou. But after a depressing day of having to socialise way outside my comfort zone, I went back and just finished this. I think this shows enough of Monoma’s character...? Idk it might be disappointing to some, sorry. 

Uh also somehow I still gained followers and my activity never flatlined? That was honestly mind-blowing (and I felt hella guilty). But I didn’t want to cheapen out by just typing an apology / thanks without having anything to show, so I decided when I did express all that, it would be with the publishing of a new chapter. So...thanks. Next is Chapter 18 for ATDS.
