Are there any time travel stories in which a person travels back in time and therefore into an alternate time line and realizes they can't get back into their original time- like even if they tried to go back into the future, it would just be another time timeline. and the person just has to live with that? The closest I can think of is Casey Jones Jr. from ROTTMNT the movie. Are there any other stories like that?

Totally Killer is the “Back to the Future slasher” you might have heard about and I was expecting it to be really annoying or on the nose but I don’t think it was, for my speed at least. A similar film and vibe to The Final Girls.

I get so frustrated my time travel films. They never seam to follow their own rules (a la endgame captain america bullshit) or they get all paradoxy and over complicated.
But I love time travel fanfictions. Especially time travel fix its.
You guys are so much better at it, for starters, but I think the truth is that when you take away the need for the main character to return to their own time, time travel just works better

Till We Meet Again on the Lily Hill

Movies watched in 2024
Till We Meet Again on the Lily Hill (2023, Japan)
Director: Yoichi Narita
Writers: Masahiro Yamaura & Yoichi Narita (based on the novel by Natsue Shiomi)
Mini-review:
I had been curious about Till We Meet Again on the Lily Hill for a while, since I like the two leads quite a bit and it became one of the most successful romance movies of the decade in Japan. Unfortunately, I found it disappointing. The romance didn't make me feel much at all, and the story is thematically muddled and indecisive. It clearly has a anti-war message, and tries to criticize the whole kamikaze program through the main character. However, at the same time, it seems to glorify and justify the same things it wants to condemn. The cast does a great job and makes the movie watchable, but not even the acting can stop it from being underwhelming.

If anyone's looking for a great book to read/movie to watch, check out Time After Time from 1979. Written by Karl Alexander (novel) and directed by Nicholas Meyer (film), it stars Malcolm McDowell as H.G. Wells, who has invented a time machine. Unfortunately for him, his close friend Dr. John Leslie Stevenson (David Warner) is really Jack the Ripper and steals the machine, so Wells pursues him to 1979 San Francisco and must not only bring him to justice, but try to get by in a future he could never have imagined. Also starring Mary Steenburgen as Amy Robbins, the film is largely faithful to the book, barring some extremely minor changes. TRIVIA: Supposedly, the movie inspired the Cyndi Lauper song of the same name.
MORE TRIVIA: The club used in the disco scene is the famous Trocadero Transfer, now known as The Grand.

Durante la Tormenta (2018) or Mirage (English title)
The English translation seems more adventurous, IMO. Good job to whoever thought of that. I'm glad they didn't say "during the storm" or something.
And most importantly, it's a good time-travel arc movie.

The Greatest Hits Review - Loss Through the Lens of Music
"The Greatest Hits" dwells into the power of music in healing wounds of the past. Read our spoiler-free review of the romance movie starring Lucy Boynton, David Corenswet & Justin H. Min.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 3.5 out of 5. Sneha Jaiswal (Twitter | Instagram) The 2024 romance movie “The Greatest Hits” has an eerily similar plot to the 2022 film “Press Play” – in both stories, the female protagonists are able to travel back in time while listening to certain music, which gives them a chance to save their dead boyfriends. So, even though it’s not wholly original, the plot is still quite…

2004's Primer by Shane Carruth is a rare example of a time travel movie that doesn't dumb things down for its audience, presenting the concept in a realistic and down-to-earth manner influenced by Feynman diagrams and that has inspired multiple fan-created posts to try to document the movie's flow. At times it's almost like watching a documentary or eavesdropping on moments and dialogue that the viewer doesn't always have the larger context for. Carruth made Primer on a budget of $7,000 (making over $800K in box office) and had a crew of 5. Time to catch it if you haven't already… on Sci-Fi Saturday!!

Black Easter (2021, Dir. Jim Carroll)
This movie is basically Primer meets Passion of the Christ--with disastrous results. It makes "D-Railed" look like "The Great Train Robbery."
It's offensive, incomprehensible, pretentious, and overly long. Any interesting ideas about the intersection of time travel and theology are thrown out the window in favor of logic copied from other, better movies (that execute the logic better) for apparently intended comedic effect.
It's not even amusing as a bad movie. It just sort of goes on and on and on without making any meaningful points about anything. I guess it's supposed to have heart and a message, but whatever that message is, it gets lost in the mess that is the "Jesus assassination via time travel" plot.
Go watch The Last Temptation of Christ or Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity if you don't want your time wasted.
