Bucky: When I was a kid, I always wanted to be a magician. Steve: Tell them why you stopped? Bucky: I... I almost cut someone in half with a saw. Tony: What the fuck?? Sam: What kind of kid were you? Bucky: I didn't know a magician was fake! I thought they were real! That's why I didn't become one. Natasha: That's why?? Bruce: Not you nearly cutting a kid in half?! Bucky: The kid was fine. My dad stopped me before I could hurt him. Tony: Poor guy. At least he's safe from you now. Bucky: Huh? He's standing right beside me. Steve: I'm the kid. Bruce: And you still ended up being best friends?! Sam: I take it back. What's wrong with the both of you?!

last lines
thank you @middlingmay for the tag :’) i’ve put everything else aside in the name of self indulgence and am finally writing Thick Bucky
He redoubles his focus through the final innings. Stands when the game’s called, after they play out those sad last at-bats even though the outcome’s clear. For a second it looks like a fight’s gonna break out, before Curt weaves around and through it diffusing tensions. Bucky meanders over, tall and flushed with victory, running his hand over the back of his head. The thatch of his underarm hair is darkened with perspiration. Gale blinks one solid, deliberate blink before looking Bucky in the face.
“You see that out there?” Bucky asks, grin slapped on crooked and boyish. Gale knows he means something like that there was the beautiful sport we call American baseball. But what Gale saw out there has approached him now on two legs, reinforcing its own vitality, broad and sweating and too much itself for Gale to rationalize it down into anything smaller.
Bucky slips back into his overshirt for lunch but he rolls the sleeves up his forearms and leaves the buttons undone. His stomach has a more pronounced curve to it when he sits; Gale wishes he didn’t notice this, but all he does is notice, like someone stirred a screwdriver around in his brain and now the wires are loose, lashing bright and hot.

Breaking Beds, the stevetony way
So it starts with Sam, after a terrible day and a terrible mission. There's ink everywhere on his wings because some genius (Barton and Stark) had the idea of exploding ink bombs versus those giant alligators. But worse, his lead on Barnes has vanished into the depths of hell. He wants-needs a bath and then he wants to sleep for eternity.
Except when he goes to flop down on the bed, it gives a mighty crack and the whole thing crumbles to the floor, taking Sam along with it.
He just stays there staring at the ceiling, wondering if Barnes found out he was following him and sneakily entered the compound and jumped up and down on his bed until it broke as some unique torture technique.
The next is Thor and that really pretty nook with the hanging bed and the pond. He goes there everytime Loki shows up in their radar, making mischief and singing out brightly colored monologues to mock the whole team. The whole set up with the flower beds and the canopy reminds him of Asgard. But when he sighs and sinks down into the mattress, the chains give a soft creak and then a greater creak and the whole thing crashes down to the floor, sending the mighty thunder god sprawling face first on the ground.
The thing is, they don't go looking for other people's beds.
It just happens. Shockingly, it's not Tony who is spontaneous and unashamed about sex.
It's Steve with his honey dripping tongue and hands that are so needy. Tony is mostly along for the ride.
Three more beds.
The guest room where they put Barnes and he curses up a storm, then forces himself into Sam's space.
The next is Vision's. But he doesn't notice—because he doesn't sleep—until Wanda goes to sit on it.
And the last...
Nat's.
And she's the one who figures it out, stomping all the way to the common room where they're all playing strip poker and things are getting a little too steamy between a certain metal armed soldier and a bird boy for innocent eyes.
"You two—out!"
Tony catches it first. Her disheveled state, Clint's stolen shirt hanging off her shoulders and the Hulk slippers all scream of an unsuccessful early tuck-in. He scrambles away from table and raises his hands.
"Not my fault."
Steve casts him a betrayed look while pushing Bucky face first into Sam's bare chest.
"Pretty sure you were the one begging for more," he hisses, right before dodging the Hulk slippers that comes flying towards his face. Tony squeaks as Nat lets out a wild growl. And nobody in the team moves a muscle while an angry, sleep deprived Black Widow chases after Avengers power couple. Mostly because it hasn't sunk in—the reason why she's trying to murder her bestie and shopping partner.
By the time it does sink in—Tony has already jettisoned himself off the roof and taken Steve with him, promising to stay away from the compound until the "horny phase" wears out.
(It doesn't. But they learn to temper their timing so as to not break anymore beds.)
(Most of the time anyways.)

*New Bucky theory on Thunderbols*
Ok, now that a few days have passed and I'm thinking things through more calmly, and also because of Seb's comment “he's a little bit of Bucky and a little bit of the Winter Soldier”. I think I came up with a theory that doesn't include mind control, but could explain what's going on with our boy, keeping him in the character Marvel has shown us for 13 years...
I think first of all, Bucky is being forced by the government to work for them, and that's why he's a congressman, which otherwise wouldn't make sense. And let's remember that this is Ross' new government, the same asshole who wanted to have the Avengers under his control, the same one who said Bruce's body is government property, the same one who resents enhanced people, and the same one who didn't care about Bucky's innocence in CW, scoffing at the idea that he might have a legal defense.
His new government no doubt could have modified the conditions of Bucky's pardon, consisting now of having to do compulsory service for them and him being obligated to do only what they allow him to do. Doesn't that sound familiar to the Sokovia Accords Ross insisted on so much? This would explain the court scene in the trailer. Because no, that wasn't a congressional meeting scene as many thought, Bucky is in a courtroom, almost identical to the courtroom scene in Iron Man 2.
Tumblr media
I think in addition to the modifications to Bucky's conditional pardon, there could be another type of blackmail, such as the government threatening him to pursue charges against those who helped him and Steve escape in CW and who Cap broke out of The Raft, ergo the remaining living members of team Cap: Sam, Clint and Scott.
Being how cynical the government is, and more so Ross's, I totally see this coming. I also absolutely see the emotional blackmail coming, something along the lines of “you worked for the bad guys, if you really want to repair the damage you caused to society, now get the bad guys”. They know full well Bucky still feels guilty about what he was forced to do as the Winter Soldier, though of course he's an innocent victim in all of that, and they're using that to manipulate him.
And there is no doubt Yelena, John, Ghost and Taskmaster are bad guys in the eyes of the law, 'cause well, literally they are criminals, who have done nothing but take dirty works as job for a living. And the government could have drilled it into Bucky's head that they are a threat to society and their freedom puts the lives of innocents at risk, which isn't too far from the truth to be honest.
I'm sure Bucky would prefer to take more of an arrest approach, and not a final elimination as such. Just like in TFATWS, when he plotted the arrest of Senator Atwood and the Flag Smashers. But if it is now the government/congress itself who ordered Bucky to capture/eliminate the TBs, and I suspect also the paramilitary group that was pursuing them, he could not resort to police intervention, because the mission itself is not one of arrest, and because the police work for the same government.
So, if Bucky is being coerced by the government, and he has no ally to turn to, he would literally have no choice but to do what the government demands of him. All coupled with the emotional manipulation the government would use by taking advantage of the unfair guilt Bucky always has to carry.
I also feel like that Winter Soldier mode is something the government also forced Bucky to adopt. They would want to use him and show him off as their own living weapon just like HYDRA, something like “the Winter Soldier who was the fist of HYDRA is now the fist of America”. Of course this is something our poor Bucky hates with all his heart, but he literally would have no choice... This explains how unhappy and depressed he looks, and why he let his hair and beard grow back as a sign of lack of self-care...
It is more than clear that absolutely with all this, Marvel is undoing their own “happy ending” that they gave Bucky in TFATWS, where they at least left the door open for him to be more than the Winter Soldier.
Of course they're not going to let him shed that name, because they're simply not going to let him develop and be recognized as a hero, even though Bucky has always been a hero in every sense of the word and in his own right...

Bucky -who's been touched starved for 90yrs and finally in a world he doesn't have to hide- turning into the most handsy feely pda-prone dramatic ass boyfriend ever when he and Sam finally get together.
Good thing Sam has the patience of a saint because that man is never getting any peace.

Minnie.... Bucky's mom died thinking her so was dead without knowing that his fate was worse than death 💔💔💔
His sisters died thinking their big brother was dead 💔💔💔
Some hours ago I read a tweet that said that Bucky probably has days in which he wakes up needing his mom and I cried. 😭😭😭
Bucky deserved so much better, so so so much better.
He had people who loved him. He was someone's son, someone's brother, someone's friend. Heis story is so tragic, I can't do this.
Oh sweetheart, I knowwww 😭💔 It's so utterly devastating, I can't even think about it too hard or I'll just weep forever 💔 I'll never be over it. You said it all, really: Bucky was just a kid, a good guy, someone's beloved son and brother and friend and partner and the things that happened to him are just...... beyond the limits of comprehension.
Nobody deserves to go through everything Bucky went through, but least of all someone so kind and good as Bucky Barnes. He deserved a good, peaceful, happy life surrounded by people he loved, doing things he enjoyed. Growing old peacefully with his loved ones at his side. He didn't deserve endless, inhuman suffering and loneliness and horrors, like wtf it's SO tragic and now I'm weeping again, thanks nonnie 😭😭😭

Thunderbolts is the found family that the Avengers wanted to be. My reasoning: The Thunderbolts use the power of friendship to ease the emptiness inside of all of them and became emotionally attached to each other in a way that The Avengers could never.
They’re so individually broken that they fit together to fill the void that resides in them all.
I love them.
Also, I don’t think that any of the Thinderbolts would start having romantic connections to each other. It could be that they mistaken the love for that but it would never be that. Remember: Not all love is romantic. So, with that in mind, they’re all one dysfunctional family that’s a little rough around the edges but they’ll always put each other first. Yes, it may grow, it may shrink, but they’ll still be together.
