The spooky day has finally arrived, so here's to a spooky and fun filled Halloween this year! The collage features a very festive Zera and some of my favorites getting into the Halloween spirit: Luffy, Tanjiro, Stitch, Toothless, and Sonic the Werehog. I'm actually dressing out this year as Tony Tony Chopper from One Piece with my dad dressing out as Jigsaw from the Saw movies for tomorrow; I'll be posting pictures too! It's gonna be a frightfully good night that's for sure! Happy Halloween 2023 everyone!!

Okay so I need some reccs. Preferably books but honestly I'll take almost anything. So. Like. Hmm. The trope and vibe I'm looking for is Hiccup and Toothless from How to train your dragon. And I don't mean just mean a dragon rider book reccs and be done with it. Like noooooo. It doesn't even have to be a dragon.
How I explain the HTTYD trope is literally soulmates. Hiccup and Toothless are soulmates. Not trying to put on any weird romance tropes or tryna paint one of the best movies in the 21st century in shades of beastiality either. They are literally soulmates. You can call them platonic soulmates if you want, and it isn't an inaccurate description of them, but personal preference, I hate describing things as 'platonic soulmates' and 'romantic soulmates' cause it always just. gives an insinuation that romantic relationships always come before or precedes platonic relationships in some order of importance (honestly humans are so boring sometimes).
The trope I'm desperately searching for is, soulmates, and more like non human companions. But not like some main character being chosen by this two dimensional mythical creature. And definitely not the shit they pulled in Eragon. I want this non human/animal character to have a legitimate personality. And to be so important to the MC. And for them not to come second to any romance (if there is romance. There doesn't have to be). For this non human character to actually be a real character instead of some embezzled sidepiece to the MC or storyline.
That first HTTYD movie touched my heart and soul in a way that's left me empty looking for that feeling since I watched that movie. I'd keep rewatching it to infinitey but there's a limit to that cause I can't risk my shitty idiotic brain getting used to/tired of it, so I only let myself watch it a few times a year, as a special treat.
Literally that first movie. The parallels between Hiccup and Toothless. It was the reflection. It was 'I wouldn't kill him because he looked frightened as I was. I looked at him and I saw myself.' It was both Toothless and Hiccup having green eyes. It was, inevitably, fate or otherwise, Hiccup loosing a leg at the end of the movie when Toothless lost a fin at the beginning. Its this undeniable understanding. It was this distrust and fear and hate that turned into humour and trust and risking your life for a human boy, your friend, after so much time and hard work to get there. It was seeing a dragon who can't fly cause you shot him down, and feeding him so he wont die, making him a new fin so he'd fly again. It was falling to your death together, but the trust and understanding and being so in sync with your partner that you pull through together and coming out from the otherside of so irrecoverably changed. It was defying generations of fear and anger and grief to understand something that was supposed to kill you that didn't. All fueled by a bit of curiosity and so much loneliness.
HTTYD wasn't just that movie about a kid getting a dragon and and learning to ride with him. It was so much more. It was better than most enemies to lovers I've read, and this isn't even romance. It's the best enemies-to-friends to literal-half-of-your-soul piece of media I've consumed. And I'm sooooo angry about the ending of the 3rd movie. But I don't have time to talk about that, at least not in this post.
So yeah
Does anyone have reccs for anything like this? Please help, I'm withering away.

I have this headcanon where wings will outgrow baby furies for a couple weeks until the rest of their bodies catch up to them. They're pretty clumsy during this period of time, gotta get used to the weight of their new extensions😋.

How did no one before Hiccup ever look at dragons and didn't instantly think friend shaped.
Only one day left until the Lunar New Year, who should be the last dragon I draw?
