Elvis Top Three - Memphis Songs

Wow, it’s been a loooong time since I posted one of these! I’ve really missed hearing what everyone loves about their favorite songs. With the release of the new Memphis box set tomorrow, I thought it would be a good time to bring this back and ask everyone – What are your top three songs that Elvis recorded in Memphis? As always, there are no wrong answers, this is all out of love. ❤️

Here are my top three (at least for this moment):

Trying to Get to You – I know I’ve mentioned this on other top three posts, but this is one of my favorite songs period. I could listen to any version of this and instantly be in a better mood. The studio version he recorded at Sun is so sweet – you can hear the youthful exuberance in his voice. I also love that he really enjoyed coming back to it throughout his career. A friend recently shared the audio clip below with me, where he says it’s one of his favorite songs he ever recorded.

Any Day Now – This is one I keep coming back to, and somehow it just keeps getting better every time I listen to it. His voice in this era, with that soulful rasp, makes me feel some kind of way. His whole delivery on this song is perfection.

Danny Boy – This is one that was not on my radar too much in the past, but lately I’ve been obsessed with it. If anyone were to tell me he could no longer perform an amazing vocal in his later years, I would direct them to this song. The richness of his low tone, the ability to hit the higher notes, everything about this performance is just exquisite. His voice, coupled with the lyrics of the song, gives me chills. I like to think that all the love we give him is allowing him to rest so peacefully.

ok so le sserafim won inkigayo this week w eve psyche and the bluebeard’s wife, which is such a deserved win bc that song is a bop, but i saw ppl talking about how the top three were that song, kitsch by ive, and thirsty by aespa, all three of which are a few months old at this point. (hype boy was fourth place!!!)

but the thing with inkigayo and the reason it’s so hard for boy groups to win on inkigayo is that they put a heavy percentage of the score to digital streams, so winners tend to reflect which songs ppl are actually listening to. (hence inkigayo, popular song) it’s why girl groups are able to get such good longevity on inkigayo— people actually listen to their songs, and they keep streaming even after months because those songs are— get this— fun and enjoyable to listen to. like, idk. no matter what army and bg stans will try to tell you, you can’t mass-buy albums and artificially inflate your way to relevance

Of course with Elvis being the sexiest man to ever exist, sometimes (a lot of times) that appeal oozed out into his music, especially when he would make those…noises. You know what I mean. 😉 So what are everyone’s top three sexy/horny Elvis songs? 🥵

Shake, Rattle and Roll (full version) - The verse that was edited out (“the way you wear those dresses, the sun comes shinin’ through, I can’t believe my eyes, all that mess belongs to you”) reminds me of what Elvis supposedly said to Kay Wheeler when they met - “Is this all you?” Oh my god, I would just die if he looked at me and said something that sexy. 🥵 Even without that verse, the song is full of innuendo and I love it. “You make me roll my eyes and then you make me grit my teeth.” I’m picturing a very specific scenario with that line…

Steamroller Blues - Whew, hearing Elvis sing blues just does something to me, and again with the innuendo on this one! Please, Elvis, shoot me full of rhythm and blues or whatever else you want. 😉 Also I love how he pronounces cement like semen lol.

It Feels So Right - Basically the whole Elvis is Back album is off-the-charts sexy, but this one in particular drives me wild. His intense vocal delivery makes me feel some kind of way, and I wish I could’ve seen him belting this out in the studio. “Nothing could be wrong that feels so right.” Describes my love for this man. ❤️

Going feral for Bway The Pitiful Children rn like it’s SUCH a villain song it’s so good especially that instrumental break after Jenna’s part like omg… when u can hear the Squip in the back faintly singing ‘the pitiful children’ in the cast recording scratches an itch in my brain I didn’t know I had… Jeremy’s little voice growl(?) thing (idk what it’s called) on “LEt’s teach the pitiful children who haven’t a clue” after Jenna gets squipped in the cast recording… the official cast recording in general… THE LIGHTS AND CHOREOGRAPHY ONSTAGE O EM GEE!!! Dare I say it’s the most visually appealing song??

And the way the “everything about us is going to be wonderful” part and onward is calling back to Be More Chill Pt. 2….. and how switching from “everything about you is going to be wonderful/we love everything about you” to “everything about us is going to be wonderful/we love everything about Squips” is only reenforcing how at this point it’s like the Squip is literally a part of Jeremy now like it’s made itself into him and is taking full influence and control of him….
