if i can speak plainly they deserve to live inside a band au in which tom is the lead singer of a grunge band that hit in the 90s that modern teenagers speak about like “ugh i just wish i was there at the peak” and regulus an up and coming musician / ex groupie who enters a publically debated age gap relationship with him all over tabloids . it’s giving bradley cooper reading lolita to suki waterhouse . there deserves to be parasocial twitter debates about the ethics of their relationship. “regulus is a grown adult who can make his own decisions!” “he met tom when he was 15 he wasn’t very grown then! and he’s 18 that still isn’t properly grown for this 30 year old!!!” and sirius deserves to be mad as fuck about it .

but in a canon compliant sense i think it adds a lot to regulus’ story and character to make his relationship w tom / voldemort more romantically charged in a not good way . this is a person who has been taken advantage of and felt unsafe in all forms of human connection . and now we can add romantic connection to this . regulus is characterized by his LONELINESS and i think it creates very interesting narrative opportunities for even his love life to be burdened by this toxic dark mess . he is never free from being a puppet or a projection for others . if regulus is james’ little doll wife consensually w tom it is not a CHOICE . regulus is a very easy to manipulate and control person as long as he feels valued , and tom does actually find some Real value out of him. it isn’t all a performance which i LOVE! in tom’s weird sick way he does genuinely care about regulus bc the only kind of care he can muster is based on what is useful for him .

8-Harry has Voldemort’s soul in him, Voldemort has Harry’s blood

9-Tom riddle recruited his original group when he was 15/16, Harry did the same with recruiting ppl in his 5th year

10-had a streak of knowing how to get ppl to actually follow and listen to them (Harry’s awkwardness is only his inner thoughts not what ppl see and hear) they’re natural leaders

11-both their ‘followers’ were personally taught by them

12-could easily cast dark spells

also, harrymort is literally a ship with an inherent power imbalance. Voldemort is 70 years old and more often than not, Harry is a teenager. So i don’t get why people read harrymort fics and get upset when they realise Harry’s not some crazy powerful MoD who can put Voldemort in his place. Odds are, Voldemort will always end up outsmarting him via manipulation because that’s who he is and it will ALWAYS be a toxic relationship.
