Trans girl Zuko moments
Her liking pretty things(such as that seashell)because 'girls like that stuff'
Growing out her hair after a buzzcut as visual character development
'The son my father wanted. But i wasn't me'
Being heartbreakingly jealous of her ideallic sister and wishing she could be perfect like her while hating her for it at the same time
And Ozai perfering Azula for living up to standards while Ursa loved and nurtured both of them equally but payed extra attention to Zuko because of all the degradation she faced
Comparing herself to Ty Lee by saying she's not as optimistic or pretty
Misandrist queen(Her instant reaction to a guy getting near Mai was rage at him potentially being a sleaze, her insults to Iroh, her arc culmenating in coming for her abusive dad's entire life including jumping his ass, etc)
Dragon-coded
All her friends pre-Gaang were girls
Her and Aang=Tween dorky boyprotagonist and late teens mean goth older sister who learn to love eachother trope
She's really maternal to him but also in general
Sokka is the Team Dad to her Team Mom and their dynamic is 'Mean hotheaded girl and chill goofy guy start off thinking the other is annoying asf and picking on eachother until they go on an adventure together and now they're sickeingly lovey dovey best friends totally not lovers'
Chose the Kyoshi Warriors as her bodyguards
This panel in general
Tumblr media
But also these that make her look like the second girl mc in a Nickelodeon girl power sitcom
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jet talks to and treats her the same way he does Katara and he's got Smellerbee on his team so He Knows What She Is(and is being an annoying cocky bisexual about it)
Had TWO secret identities-First one was pretending to be an ordinary boy to hide her royalty status and her first instinct on picking a name was after her childhood best friend who's a girlypop and the second one was a hero persona that included baggy ass clothes that hid her entire figure
Baby butch(Toph)immediately adopted her as her older sister
Got 1 taste of living as a daddy's boy prince praised by everybody for manliness after months of living on the run and interacting with the Gaang and went 'I need to get my ass outta here,i can't fucking live like this,I WAS WRONG BEING A REAL MAN FUCKING SUCKS,AANG WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!!!!'

So, a Kataang fan made a post about a week ago "asking" (rhetorically, of course) why it's a bad thing Katara acts like Aang's mom. And I just-
First of all, isn't that something that Kataang shippers have been trying to actively dispute for almost two decades at this point? That Katara doesn't treat Aang as a younger brother/son? There's literally an entire post about it from The Headband that's made its rounds on almost every single social media platform.
Tumblr media
So which is it, besties? Does Katara act motherly towards Aang or not?
(The answer is yes of course, as The Runaway outright confirms it multiple times. The whole premise of that episode is that Katata acts as a mother to Toph, Sokka, and Aang)
Now, why is it a problem? The fact that I have to explain this is telling for how little a lot of Kataang shippers understand Katara.
Katara was parentified. She took care of Sokka (by his own admission) as well as her entire village after Hakoda left. Even before then really, as she says in the very first episode that she's been doing all the chores around the village since their mother died which was years before that. She was delivering literal babies while basically being a baby herself.
Traveling- and being- with Aang is supposed to represent her freedom and childhood, right? That's what the first episode shows us and what Kataang is built on. But if anything, it has the opposite effect.
Book 1 wasn't terrible. Katara was very free-spirited and joyful in addition to being caring and empathetic. Her and Aang could still goof off together, even if she was doing her best to support him emotionally. You could easily see that as her being a good friend.
But somewhere between Books 2 and 3, that changed. Katara went from being his supportive friend to being his emotional crutch. During The Desert, she bears the brunt of him lashing out (he does yell at Toph once, but he's the most volatile with Katara). He also gets frustrated with her during Sozin's Comet, even though Zuko and Sokka were the ones pushing him. It's always Katara who has to bring him back when he loses control of the Avatar State, risking her own safety.
(This isn't emotional, but it was Katara who healed Aang after Azula's attack. She was the one who stayed by his side, staying awake for hours to make sure he would be okay. I like to look at it as a physical representation of their relationship. Aang's wellbeing is always put on her shoulders. If she isn't there to lift him up, he'll fall. And if he falls, the world falls. No 14 year old should be responsible for that. But it's so easy for the show- and y'all- to shove it onto her because this part of her character is never addressed. It's just used as a testament to her caring nature)
Even without Katara's parentification, this causes a major imbalance in their relationship. It puts Katara in charge of managing Aang's pain and being emotionally unsupported in return. The Southern Raiders is proof that Katara can't depend on Aang emotionally the way he does her. She's been his shoulder to cry on through everything and the one time the tables turned, she couldn't even get that from him.
And the saddest thing about this? Katara says to him, "I knew you wouldn't understand." She never expected Aang to support her. She's become so accustomed to being there for others that she's never once expected anyone to do the same for her, least of all Aang.
(But Zuko does. He's the only one who recognized Katara's pain- admittedly, mostly because it was directed at him- and tried to help her. Without being prompted. I gotta give this one to the Zutara folks)
In what world is this dynamic healthy for a romantic relationship?

My younger cousin (16) watched tlok season 3 for the first time. Here's her opinion of the characters
Korra: "is it bad that she got more attractive to me when she was suffering?" Me: "idk, maybe?" Her: "... i'll talk abt it in therapy don't worry"
Asami: "i'm so confused is there something between her and Korra???" Me: "you know i'm not gonna tell you" Her: "yeah i hate it when you do that."
Mako: "alright he got more tolerable this season i'll give you that"
Bolin: "and he got worse. So sorry" Me: "but the lavabending?" Her: oh yeah that was cool. He still sucks tho"
Tenzin: "now THAT is Aang's son right there. That shit was bad-fucking-ass."
Bumi: "again, now THAT is Aang's son. THOSE are his children. Not the shitty adults we saw last season"
Kya: "a lesbian?" Me: "doesn't get confirmed til the comics" Her: "oh for FUCKS SAKE"
Jinora: "i love her i cherish her she's the smartest and most powerful character in this show she beats everyone else"
Kai: "he reminds me too much of my brother and i don't like that"
Ikki & meelo: "they're still annoying i'm so sorry"
Lin Beifong: "she needs therapy"
Suyin Beifong: "of all the characters i expected, i didn't think Toph would get the messiest. Like not one but TWO baby daddies? Man. Suyin is cool as hell tho but she does give awkward soccer mom vibes"
Opal: "does she have more personality other than 'sweet cute girl for bolin to bang?'"
Zaheer: "best villain this universe ever produced only for him te become absolutely pathetic in the end bc bolin pushed a sock into his mouth. They should have kept him stoic and scary. He was so cool until that exact moment and they HAD to have a dumb bolin one liner. I'm so mad about this if you couldn't tell"
P'li: "sparky sparky boom WOMAN. A win for feminism."
Ming Hua: "i still think young Katara would beat her in a fight and i'd pay good money to see it."
Ghazan: "i have a rlly good joke about him" Me: "ok shoot" Her: "he's mista Lava Lava" *burts out laughing*
Lord Zuko: "ngl i screamed when i saw him on screen maybe i do like his character"
Varrick & Zhu Li: "HOW MANY CHARACTERS ARE IN THIS SEASON JESUS" Me: "and we haven't even gone over the president yet" Her: "oh my GOD"

Avatar the Last Airbender - Master Fic Rec Post
See under the cut for forty-two total recs, predominantly Zukka.
Wooing the Water Tribe by lenaballena (ALL TIME FAVE RIGHT HERE)
Zuko is courting Katara, and with every passing day finds new and insane ways of showing that he would quite literally move the spirit world and earth to make her happy.
In hindsight, it probably would've been better if Sokka had realised he was in love with Zuko at literally any time before this. Or preferably, never fallen for his best friend in the first place.
exothermic reaction by blueconsequences
When Sokka is temporarily blinded by Fire Nation soldiers, the members of the Gaang take turns to care for him.
One pair of hands is warmer than the others.
Love's Such an Old-Fashioned Word by drvcos
When invited to the 100th anniversary of his father’s company, after 15 years of radio silence, Zuko decides to show how happy he is to all the people from his past. There’s only one (fatal) problem.
Or,
Zuko is a frazzled single dad, Sokka is an absolute flirt, and the “fake” that comes before their relationship doesn’t feel all that fake.
like real people do by verdanthoney for bleekay
Sokka knew he would be dealing with a raging case of baby fever during their annual vacation on Ember Island. What he didn’t expect was to discover that he was also hopelessly in love with Zuko, and had been for years without realizing.
Spirits Help Us, There's Two of Them by hopepunk
Sokka and Zuko are both weird guys. Fortunately, they're the same kind of weird as each other.
(do you take this jerk to be) your one and only by jatersade
Under the leadership of Fire Lord Iroh, the Fire Nation has made every attempt to restore peace and make amends for the harm they inflicted during the Seventy-Year War. Their newest proposal is a literal proposal: a marriage to unite the Fire Nation and the Water Tribes.
The Fire Nation offers Prince Zuko’s hand.
The Water Tribes offer Princess Yue’s.
Sokka is apparently the only person in the world who has a problem with any of this.
isn't this the vision that you wanted by nebulastucky
Firelord Zuko - ender of the Hundred Year War, ruler of the Fire Nation, payer of respects and reparations - takes advice and counsel from representatives of every nation, division, and specialty.
But teenage boy Zuko - friend of turtleducks, wielder of fun looking swords, stumbler over words and feet in the presence of cute boys - only listens to two people, and they are conspiring together to ruin him.
or: Iroh just wants what's best for his nephew, and Katara just wants to know everyone's business.
we had a moment, we had a summertime by nebulastucky
Sokka shrugs. “What’s the worst that could happen?”
“You get captured and killed by the Fire Nation,” Toph provides.
“They won’t execute me in a tea shop,” Sokka says around a sudden lump in his throat. “That’d be bad for business.”
or: the one where sokka falls for a tea shop and a boy with too much charm for his own good.

Most people know they're a bender since birth. Sokka just had to discover it at twenty when he accidentally burns his own house down.
Alchemy by mindbending
Sokka (a.k.a the Silent Knight, a.k.a. the sharpest detective in Caldera City) has three cases weighing on his mind.
1.) Zuko, son of the mob boss Ozai, has gone missing under sinister circumstances. 2.) Lee, a teahouse waiter with the face of an angel, wears a scar of mysterious origins. 3.) The Blue Spirit, a lithe and enigmatic cat burglar, keeps stealing into the Fire Nation’s storehouses (not to mention Sokka’s dreams).
Sokka sighs and takes a swig from his special bottle. It’s hard solving three completely unrelated mysteries at the same time...
i wanna be still with you by tristanyvaine
Handwritten letters sent back and forth do not a love story make. Or. Maybe they do, in the case of a certain Fire Lord and Water Tribe warrior who happen to fall in love over sending letters to each other at least.

Book 3. Sokka/Zuko. Set after The Boiling Rock Pt. 2, Sokka and Zuko explore the Western Air Temple, where Sokka tries to get Zuko to talk about girls, marriage, and maybe even a future for the two of them.
Worship the Ashes by meregalaxiesandgods, patentpending
All Azula wants is for things to go back to the way they were – her father on the precipice of conquering the world, her own position secure at his right hand. Now, the only secure thing is her, trapped in a gilded cage in her brother's new Fire Nation. Lonely and adrift, Azula would do anything to make it end, until an unexpected connection rekindles a light she long-thought had burned to ashes. But falling for Suki isn't something Azula can let herself do, especially with the world as they know it threatening to crumble around them.
Or: Azula goes to therapy, has an identity crisis, stops actively trying to kill her brother, makes a few friends, and falls in love along the way.
No Quiet Life by JustGettingBy
Zuko's not sure when it started. It would be easy to say it started with Boiling Rock, or with the Western Air Temple. But whenever it started, his crush isn’t about to go away anytime soon.
*
“It’s not too late, ‘Lee’. We could steal a boat. Sail across the high seas until we hit the horizon. Spend the rest of our days living off the land.” He brandishes his arm as if to show Zuko the untapped potential of their future as wild hunters.
“No, Sokka.”
Sokka shrugs. “Well, it was worth a shot. When you’re up to your eyeballs in expense reports, don’t say I didn’t ask.”
Zuko’s mouth feels very dry. “I won’t.”

Will We Last the Night by CSHfic, VSfic (My absolute fave of the canon rewrites for its wildly IC enemies-to-lovers feel)!
Chief Arnook never assigns Sokka to protect Princess Yue, so he goes to fight the Fire Nation with the other men. When the moon dies, and the ocean spirit takes its revenge, Sokka is caught standing on the deck of a Fire Nation ship. Sokka should have drowned… and he would have drowned, if not for a certain Fire Nation raft fleeing the North Pole.

Sokka writes lyrics for his sister’s band. Zuko plays piano and is unnecessarily nice. Fellas, is it gay to write love songs about your friend and his golden eyes?

And yet here Zuko was, not only in the South Pole’s capital itself but in the Royal Palace, protecting the tribe’s Chief after a failed assassination attempt. As her seismic sense ran passively through the bag, she sensed something small; it was heavier than the parchment but lighter than the bag of coins-- giving a feedback of vibration somewhere between glass and limestone.

Sometimes, Toph likes to ask about colors. Not often—people generally aren't great at explaining them to her, but her newfound metalbending abilities have left her curious.

“Sokka?” Zuko’s voice is quiet and raspy as he shifts just enough that Sokka lifts his head up from Zuko’s shoulder. The confession Sokka had ready to go dies on his lips at Zuko’s expression - at the red he can just barely make out in Zuko’s eyes. “Sokka, I… need to tell you something.”
Sokka swallows and nods silently, not trusting his own admission to not slip out if he dares to open his mouth. Zuko must be confessing the same thing Sokka wants to. Which, admittedly, Sokka hadn’t actually planned for, but it’s fine. He can adapt to this. He just needs to shift a few words around in his brain, and--
“You’re my best friend, you know that right?”
And why does Zuko’s tone make this sound like a break up?

For some reason, Zuko can't stop looking at Sokka out of the corner of his eye. It must be something about the way the moonlight reflects off his skin—or maybe how his eyes, such a vibrant shade of blue, glimmer like the stars above them—
Oh.
Oh, no.
(Or, five moments under the night sky and one beneath the sun.)

"His mom had given him a diary.
No, not a diary–– a journal, she had specified. He knows it’s a diary. Zuko thinks she only called it a journal because she thought that Zuko wouldn’t use it if she said otherwise. A diary is for feelings and angst, but a journal was for working through your problems without all that mushy, gushy stuff. It was for writing out simply what was in your head, nothing more, nothing less."

“I was ready to fight for us. I was ready to find a way, any way for us to work. And you were the one who ran away when it got too hard!” “That’s not what happened and you know it!” Sokka snaps. “It was never going to work, and it was stupid to keep pretending otherwise! I’m sorry Zuko, I am, but just because you are the Fire Lord, just because we– we were in love, everything wasn’t going to magically fall into place.” Zuko still has a stubborn expression on his face. There are angry tears in his eyes when he says, “We could’ve figured it out. We could’ve…been us. We could’ve had a good life together.” “Yeah, well, I guess we won’t ever know.” (or, the twenty years between Zuko and Sokka breaking up and finally getting together again, shown in 5 times they don’t say goodbye, +1 time they don’t have to)

“I accidentally signed off on an arranged marriage to Sokka,” Zuko says faintly. He sits up so fast he almost falls out of his chair. “I signed off on an arranged marriage to Sokka, and he agreed." In which Zuko suffers in a variety of ways, including but not limited to: close and constant proximity to the object of his affections, assassination attempts, and irreparable injuries to his dignity.
Yesterday is Ashes by alivingfire
Sokka takes a strategic step back, but he also smiles: triumphant, like he baited Zuko into exactly what he wanted. Like it’s a challenge. It’s the same way he looked when they sized each other up at the prison, with Sokka in chains that left red marks around his wrist, in tattered prison garb, malnourished and angry. Back then, that was Sokka saying: I see your power. I see you. Now, see me. Zuko saw him then. And he sees him now; different, but the same. I see you. Zuko lights his daos in flame. Sokka grins, back to gravel and heat. “Come on, Fire Lord. Impress me.”Zuko burns. His vision flickers with fire. His heart races. His blood sings. His body is like a magnet, pulling ever onward to meet Sokka’s. He advances. He pins Sokka to the wall, blades against his throat. Or, Zuko found Aang first, Sokka and Katara were imprisoned in Boiling Rock for trying to rescue their dad, and all Sokka knows is he's pretty sure he's not supposed to think the Fire Lord is attractive but he's never let things like rules stop him before.
in flammam flammas【火上澆火】 by ranilla_bean
Zuko scoffed. “As always, I am the author of my own unhappiness.”Sokka hummed. “Years ago, when it was just us travelling together, we came across this fortune teller. I didn’t believe any of that mumbo-jumbo. But then she said that my life would be full of struggle and anguish, most of it self-inflicted.”It suited Zuko’s life extraordinarily well, he felt. “Sometimes, I feel like I’m the only person in the Fire Nation who has a vision of what it takes for this country to get better.”Sokka turned to face him, but Zuko looked resolutely forwards. “That can’t be true.”
Zuko turns twenty-five. In spite of his best efforts, the Fire Nation seems to lurch from crisis to crisis. The firebenders have lost their flame, and the situation with the former colonies is only worsening. All the while, he's ill, lonely, and consumed by work. And on the other side of the country, Sokka has just moved in with one Master Piandao.

Bitter Work
Life took me out at the knees for a couple of weeks but I'm back! I'm hoping this is a nice restful episode after the relentlessness of The Chase.
I have to say, Toph's nicknaming skills are on point. I never would have thought of Sugarqueen, but it fits perfectly.
Tumblr media
This is me. Every morning.
Tumblr media
Full nose plant from Appa.
And the beat up Sokka quota is fulfilled. Very funny Toph, but completely uncalled for. If someone had catapulted teenage me 50 feet into the air while I was trying to sleep, it would have been fully justifiable homicide.
Aang is always trying to run before he can walk. What was Iroh always saying to Zuko about basics? Aang needs that speech too.
I was really on the ball in my post about how airbenders aren't homicidal, actually. Rock is a stubborn element. Yay me!
Aang earthbends = Earth bends Aang.
Seriously, how did he mess up that badly?
Tumblr media
Cozy.
Thank you Zuko for the incredibly obvious exposition that's somehow completely in character. Interesting to see that Iroh and his son had brown hair, but Zuko seems to have black hair. More hair variety in the Fire Nation than I thought.
Tumblr media
Tangent time! I love the contrast in social intelligence (I guess that's the term?) in this scene. Zuko wakes Iroh up with an infodump, some bad tea, and then gets straight to discussing strategy. Iroh's first actions are to compliment the bad tea, then dispose of the refill in a way that won't hurt Zuko's feelings (probably not necessary, as Zuko seems to be the type that's oblivious to all things other than the task at hand when he's focused). Iroh, injured and awake for all of 15 seconds, jumps straight to actions that help look after his nephew. And Zuko is trying! That's why he made tea! But still, he doesn't even ask if his uncle's feeling ok. Zuko has such a massive gap in his education - he can probably reel off the specs of all Fire Nation battleships, but he doesn't know how to be a human person. Contrast that with Iroh, and especially Katara, who makes friends and connections with such aggressive forwardness that she's at times more steamroller than teenage girl. It's funny how privilege plays into this too - Zuko comes from probably the single most privileged (on paper) family in the world, yet it's the children of the impoverished water tribe who have the more well-rounded education/socialisation.
"She's crazy and she needs to go down" go a full belly laugh out of me.
"What if I came at the boulder from a different angle?" Jesus I was REALLY on point with my post about the airbenders. Credit where credit is due, this show has such good writing/worldbuilding that viewers have picked up what Toph is laying out in this episode already. Also a little bit of stealth character work in there - since Toph is putting into words what we've been thinking this whole time, she now reads as trustworthy. This show is so good. So thought out.
Tumblr media
Maybe it's just VLC being weird, but methinks Katara is having some trouble with her eyeball.
Katara STOP BABYING HIM. This is why I don't like Aang having a crush on her.
Honestly it's refreshing to have Toph giving it to Aang straight, no softening the blows.
Tumblr media
I really like this texture.
Sokka's club is a giant bottle opener. Or at least a multitool.
ROCK SUITS
wait
ELEMENTAL FASHION
oh this is going to be haybending all over again.
They are totally going to have to nerf this girl. She could defeat the Fire Lord right now.
Tumblr media
Earth beats water tribe
Tumblr media
Someome who knows more about tea than I do: Why are both pots necessary?
"requires peace of mind" well that's out. Sorry Zuko, we'll have to get you a taser instead.
"So we're drinking tea to calm down?" "not it's to get the nasty ass taste of the sludge you brewed out of my mouth. I mean yes." For what's looking like an extended training montage, this episode is far funnier than it needs to be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I pretty much don't notice Zuko's scar anymore (it's just part of his character design) then every so often a certain frame of animation will come out of the blue and remind me that this kid's missing half his face. I don't know if it's intentional on the part of the animators, but his scar is prominent this episode.
So it sounds like bending lightning actually corresponds with how lightning in our world works. Neat.
In an absolutely Shocking turn of events (pun absolutely intended), Zuko fucks it up. Fucking shit up: the autobiography of a Fire Prince. Has a nice ring to it.
Tumblr media
Toph I know you go hard, but maybe apply a sense of proportion to this?
It kind of looks like Aang's about to be run over by a giant scoop of caramel ice cream.
Toph is such an interesting mishmash of bluntness and emotional intelligence. I don't think I've seen a character like that before.
Zuko being self aware for once! Everything always does explode in his face. Except when he's being the Blue Spirit. Seems he's more capable then.
It's a tragedy that this boy wasn't around for the emo movement. He would have single-handedly sustained Hot Topic.
Zuko going "WHAT TURMOIL?!?!?" is like Katara going "I'M COMPLETELY CALM!!!!!" last episode. Also got a laugh out of me.
"I'm as proud as ever." OF WHAT?!?!? What could he possibly be proud of? He's a homeless fugitive with a stolen horse bird and a half-dead uncle that he can't even properly brew tea for. The self-delusion is strong.
Is pride the source of shame? Honest question, I don't know.
There's a surprising variety of trees in this part of the Earth Kingdom. Where Zuko and Iroh are there are fluffly hardwoods, probably deciduous; Toph's training ground is ringed by cartoon pines.
Tumblr media
This whole bit is too cute for words.
"Now come back boomerang" This is a training episode, it's not supposed to be this funny!
Are there voice acting awards? Like voice acting oscars? Sokka's actor needs one. Or several.
I should have waited to answer the ask about airbenders and just copy pasted Iroh's speech here. Except for the water = change bit. That doesn't make sense.
What can I possibly say about Iroh's speech? It's the thesis for this show in a single paragraph.
Tumblr media
Pretty.
Are characters' eyes a different shape this episode? Aang's eyes change colour all the time, but everyone's eyes seem more cat-like.
I do love me some constructive bullying.
Sokka is so refreshingly self-aware while still totally oblivious. He is meat and sarcasm, but he's so much more!
"Have you got any meat?" He said that in an Irish accent.
"You're gonna pull my fingers off and I don't think the rest of me is coming!" Do you ever come across a sentence that is so obviously an innuendo that your brain trips over itself trying to decipher it?
Sokka's hair must be so fluffy. It's got so much volume.
Why can't he go get Toph? I think being stuck in a hole outranks avoiding an awkward encounter.
FOO FOO CUDDLYPOOPS
"You must not let the lightning pass through your heart, or the damage could be deadly." Foreshadowing?
Today in 'things Zuko thinks it's acceptable, nay, expected, for parental figures to do' - attempted murder as a teaching method! What went on in that palace?
Is this the closest Sokka's come to dying?
Tumblr media
He's earthbending the air! Doing air but earthlike. You know what I mean.
Tumblr media
I thought she was levitating.
Tumblr media
Toph is so smart. She does the airbender thing and comes at the problem from a different angle. Telling Aang to stand up for himself doesn't work? Fine. Let's bully him into standing up for himself. And it works!
This episode's MVP is Sokka's patience.
"You tried the positive reinforcement, didn't you?" uhhhhh sure!
Tumblr media
Appa getting vengeance for Sokka. Nice.
Tumblr media
Theatre kids.
I wish Zuko would just have the breakdown he's obviously hurtling towards so we can get started on the rebuilding arc. Every time I think he's a rock bottom, he keeps digging.
Luten is Katara. Let's not read too far into that one.
Final Thoughts
I defy any episode from this point on to fulfill the Beat Up Sokka Quota as thoroughly as this one did.
In a lesser show, the 'Aang learns earthbending episode' would have had Aang & Toph as the A-plot, and Sokka & Katara doing something completely unrelated as a b-plot, and probably no Zuko at all. Sokka does have his own thing going on this episode, but the fact that they managed to weave in both water tribe siblings so organically is so satisfying. Of course a team member struggling to learn a new skill would seek out his friends. Of course his friends are in the area, observing the lesson to varying degrees. It feels so much more real to have the characters who aren't 'useful' that episode still there, rather than conveniently absent.
Zuko was very Zuko this episode. He's correct that he needs more training for his inevitable next encounter with Zuko jr., but Iroh is also correct that Zuko is a bundle of issues held together by a different bundle of issues. Not to jinx it, but I thought I detected a hint of self-awareness from Zuko this episode, although it seems to have occurred despite his best efforts to suppress it.
Iroh's Zuko-wrangling skills were sharp this episode, despite being injured. And his wisdom was off the charts. Zuko was also not as annoying as I usually find him, and unlike in Zuko Alone where I found his quieter self to be out of character, it fit this episode. Maybe he's turned over a new, quieter, leaf? I loved "she's crazy and she needs to go down" both as a joke and as a statement. Shared blood doesn't trump someone's actions, and I'm glad to see a show meant for kids acknowledge that. Although, given that this show has no problem depicting objectively BAD parents and families, I can't say I'm surprised.
In a testament to Jack de Sena's skill, Sokka get a soliloquy this episode and pulls it off flawlessly. Kudos to the animation team for making Sokka's face fit the words so well. Double kudos for whoever had the balls to approve 'stick Sokka in a hole and put an apex predator on his head to force self-reflection' as a plotline.
There was a lot of exposition from a lot of different characters this episode, but it's mostly unnoticeable. It just makes sense that that's what they would be talking about at that point in time.
I think I said it above, but I'll say it again: the worldbuilding in this show is phenomenally well done. How do I know this? Because I was able to construct most of Iroh's monologue before watching this episode, just by paying attention. This show rewards focus and attentiveness. (Almost) nothing that Iroh said was not something the audience has already observed for themselves. Not heard, but observed. That 'show, don't tell' thing.
This episode was way funnier than it needed to be too. Not just the obvious stuff like *inhales*
FOO FOO CUDDLYPOOPS
but tiny one-liners buried mid-conversation and character interactions too. Momo turning into a reed didn't have to be there, but it was, and it was funny. It wasn't exactly restful, but it was a relief to have an episode that really didn't move around after The Chase.
What I like most about this episode was that it went farther than it had to. This was a training episode. It could have been just training. Anyone familiar with training episodes would expect just training, and be satisfied with just training. But Avatar said 'nope, we'll do better than that' and organically incorporated a heap of character stuff, worldbuilding from multiple perspectives, humour, multiple characters undergoing self-reflection, the next step in the domestication of Zuko, what I'm hoping wasn't a heap of foreshadowing, and pretty backgrounds as the cherry on top. They didn't have to go so hard, but Avatar always goes hard. I like that.

The problem with the baby maker comment is that it puts down motherhood. I agree that Katara deserved better treatment from the writers, but she deserves better treatment bc she just didn't get much time or effort, not because she was a mother. Calling any woman, for any reason whatsoever, a 'baby maker' is mysoginistic, period. Even if we're talking abt like, ol fasion times when women were valued by their ability to have children, calling them a 'baby maker' is derogatory toward the woman when the fault lies with the society. No woman is ever a baby maker, she is a mother, and, if in a position where she's forced to have kids, a victim.
However, also, Katara is very clearly not that. She is described as having a significant role and life outside of her children, (but the writers gloss over it bc Katara isn't as important to them in LoK, which I'm also irked about. Like, it's Katara, you KNOW she did more than just outlaw something, can't even put a statue of her in the background smh). She's well respected as an expert waterbender, (though she does get relegated to the best healer instead of, you know, the badass warrior that she is) and she has three children, which is a very normal amount, and all three have years between eachother so Katara and Aang were clearly not particularly pressed to have kids.
I don't think they had children just to have an air nomad and stopped because like, if Tenzin had been the first born, I have no doubt Katara still would've wanted more if for no other reason then to also have a waterbender, just like some parents try for another kid bc they want both a son and a daughter. It's doesn't make someone a baby maker to want kids for a reason.
Calling Katara a baby maker degrades her, degrades how important and valuable being a mother is (just like being a father is also valuable), and it's just in general a very gross thing to call a woman.
If you want to critique the way Katara was tossed aside, feel free, she 100% got done dirty (honestly, both her and Toph did), but you don't need to call her names or pretend like having kids is the only thing she did in order to do it. The fault in her writing does not lay with her family.

A prompt: Hakoda meets his grandchild, the first steambaby
Sequel to She Lives In You
The Fire Nation had strange traditions and customs.
Some more strange than others.
Hakoda tried his best to adhere to them for his daughter and son-in-law's sake, but this one was far more aggravating than strange. His spiraling thoughts were interrupted by Suki's light laughter.
"You two are going to wear down a trough at this rate."
"We can't help it!" Sokka said as he continued to pace. "Katara said the seventh night right? I heard seventh night."
"I should have been there with her." Hakoda muttered while pacing in the opposite direction.
"And this is," Sokka counted on his fingers. "Four, six, seven! The seventh night!!!"
"What if something went wrong?"
"Guys!" Suki waved her hands. "Everything's fine. Katara and Zuko have the best healers at their disposal. Besides, if something was wrong, they would have told us by now."
"She right. Our lovely grandchild is in the best of hands." Iroh said while pouring more tea. "Though I do agree the wait is maddening."
Hakoda and Sokka shared a concerned look.
Suki laughed again then beckoned them to sit down.
"C'mon before you form a hole right through the floor."
Defeated, the father and son joined the others at the table. Hakoda massaged his aching head. He swore the past couple of days added several new gray strands of hair to his already graying head. Iroh placed a cup in front of him.
"Mint tea for the nerves."
Hakoda quietly thanked him and took a sip. It did help. Somewhat.
"Wow Dad, I've never seen you this nervous." Sokka said.
Hakoda grunted.
"Gran-Gran said he acted like this when you and Katara were born too." Suki said. "Actually did wear a trough through the snow."
Hakoda downed his tea, then placed his cup down firmer than he meant to.
"Don't you two dare make me wait this long. Understand?"
Iroh laughed as Sokka placed a hand on Suki's baby bump.
"Promise."
Just then the door swinged open. Hakoda and Sokka were first on their feet followed by Iroh, who was still quite nimble in his old age. But instead of the royal couple or a heralder, two out of breath figures ran into the room.
"We're here! We made it!" Aang panted.
"Aw man it's just you guys." Sokka said disappointedly.
"Good to see you too Snoozels." Toph shot back. "We would have been here on time but someone took forever shaving."
Aang sheepishly rubbed his freshly cleaned head. "I wanted to make a good first impression."
Hakoda resumed pacing as the pleasantries continued. He was glad to see Aang and Toph of course. But they were down to the bare minutes now.
The doors opened again. This time, a royal heralder entered. Everyone jumped up immediately.
"Esteemed family of Firelord Zuko and Royal Consort Master Katara, my I present to you," He glanced down at the scroll. "Princess-"
"Wait, I want to tell them." Katara said from behind as she and Zuko walked in decked in flowing white robes and cradling a small bundle.
The poor heralder was practically shoved aside as the family crowded around the royal couple.
"Let us see!"
"She's so tiny!"
"Give them some breathing room!"
Zuko eventually got them to settle down some by promising there was enough time for everyone to meet the new princess. Katara unwrapped her face and gently handed her to Hakoda. He couldn't take his eyes off the baby. Her soft brown skin and curious golden eyes warmed his heart.
"She's so precious..."
"Dad. " Katara said somewhat nervously. "Meet Kya."
The room fell into bittersweet silent as each person took in the gravity and importance of the news. The baby smiled and gurgled; eyes holding a sparkle Kya's used to. Long awaited tears trickled down Hakoda's face as he gazed at his granddaughter.
"Thank you."
___
Thanks for the prompt ❤️

Random fable headcanons cuz brain is braining
💛
- Aax and Ocie have eaten an entire large pizza before, no one knows how they got it, who made it, how Aax ate it at the time, or literally anything about the pizza, they call it the magic pizza
- Rae has eaten grass.
- Ulysses falls asleep on the water like an otter, holding onto sea grass or kelp so he doesn't drift away (in the past few days after he found out aax was like his son, shes joined him a few times)
- Violet *really* enjoys sneaking up on Fenris as he's working by being invisible, he did this before he ascended as well but it was less sneaky cuz his shoes made sound
- Icarus chirps lots, especially when away from Fable, they think he'll think its weird so they hold it in around him
- Easton has in fact said "There it is!" Like toph in that one episode of ATLA multiple times and thinks its the funniest thing ever
- Hope tried to bite off Fables toes once (father like child except the child is a dog💛)
- Oscar has drawn the souls multiple times and shown them, they cried about it
- Ocie is an amazing dancer, it always came naturally and when she dances it's like calm waves brushing against the shore
- so is Aax but she taught her and the rest is history
- the Koda and Cookie incident of 2024. (Baby Koda tried to eat a chocolate chip cookie out of Fenris' hands, did not end well)
- Fenris bites out of affection and malice, affection is a soft bite, its easy to tell the difference, especially since he bites softer when its affectionate (before he and Centross were dating he'd bite him on the shoulder and watch as his reaction carefully, he also did this with Rae)
- Vorago sits like a cat
- Fable is the reason Icarus chirps actually, he may seem like he doesn't, but its something he holds in because hes such a...idk but he refuses to believe he does it
- haley has stuffed animals

Do you (or well the fans of ATLA for the most part) believed Sokka and Suki ever had a child?
I personally feel like if they'd had a kid, they would've been mentioned in tlok already, so I'm gonna have to say no.
But then again, we all thought Lin was an only child until Suyin jumped us in B3 with her whole ass city and 5½ children. So really who's to say that Suki and Sokka's babies didn't just fuck off to Kyoshi Island or smth and stay away from all the drama in tlok.
So to answer your question, probably not, but if Nickelodeon suddenly pulled out some Sukka kids out of their ass, it would not be earth shattering news to me.
In my heart of hearts Baatar Sr is their son because that's so fucking funny to me.
Also with how people lost their shit at Aang and Toph for having realistic flaws as parents, I'm honestly kinda glad Sokka and Suki escaped that scrutiny. I can already picture one of Sokka's kids mentioning Sokka doing something less then ideal and the internet rambling about how "tlok ruined Sokka" or some shit like that...

I have way too many fanfics going inside my head and all of them are about Lin BWHAHAH - I’m way too shy to post any of my AUs and headcanons here but I’ll get this little one out because I’m obsessed. I yap a lot and I need an outlet for this so forgive me for any typos, run-on sentences whatnot hehehe. Lin has a son from Tenzin named Qiu. He’s five years older than Jinora, an earthbender married to a lovely non-bender woman named Ai and he has a little daughter named Poppy, after his great-grandmother.
For obvious reasons, Tenzin doesn’t know about Qiu. Because of the strains of her work (and life in general), Lin didn’t know she was pregnant until she was on a spontaneous vacation with Bumi (he practically dragged her to the boat; Lin refused to take her mandatory vacation time and the previous Chief - not Toph - hired reinforcements to get his protege to relax). Mid-tirade, Lin crumbles to the ground and soon enough when help gets to their cabin, Bumi is carrying his squalling nephew, shell shocked. When Qiu arrived, Lin’s gray world suddenly turned technicolored. Qiu filled up a massive hole in Lin’s heart that her family carved out. Ever since that day, it was Lin and Qiu with fun Uncle Bumi on the side.
Qiu Beifong though, wasn’t a name that you would hear in the papers or from the mouths of the common. If you asked a random civilian for a Qiu Beifong or for Lin Beifong’s son, they would either be confused or laugh at your face. For the first few weeks of his life, Lin was an anxious mess. She didn’t know she was pregnant so what if something is wrong with the baby? What if her drinking, occasional cigar, and ramen noodle diet makes him sick or gives him colic? Spirits did she give her son colic? A myriad of scenarios went through Lin’s head and all of them made her want to puke. She wasn’t even thinking of Tenzin when she had Bumi register her son’s name as Qiu Wang. All she was thinking about was the hostage situations she didn’t want her son to go through with the Beifong name. Lin had too many enemies and too much press on her back and she didn’t want that for her son. Lin gave her son everything her mother didn’t give her, and one of them was peace.
Qiu is a mama’s boy and the complete opposite of Lin: he is hyperactive, very affectionate, and is kind of like his grandpa Aang reincarnated. Qiu grew up to become an Architect and would work with his Uncle Baatar in Zaofu. Qiu and Lin are very close. While Lin is strict, she still makes sure Qiu knows how much she loves him.

Day 5: Captured/Safe
Everything is Lost AU
As the Fire Palace scrambles to get the rumours of treason whithin the Royal Family in regards of the Avatar's escape under wraps; Aang and his friends ride Appa to the only place that feels safe at the moment: the Southern Air Temple. The mood is sombre; and they are all shaken up. Aang and Toph are barely put together, both feeling the acute loss of Zuko and forced to face the grim reality that the other boy might not see another sunrise.
Meanwhile, Zuko convalesces in the Infirmary. The angry red burn is stark against his skin, due to all the blood he had already lost to arrow wounds before Ozai's attack. The Fire Lord has ordered him to be cuffed to the bed. Lu Ten sits besides him, ruffled, worried, in shock and incandescently furious. Just this evening they were celebrating the Day of the Dark Sun in Crescent Island, like they have done every time for as long as he can remember.
Zuko had taken ill these past few days and so his abscense had been excused. To think it was all for this... just how badly had that bastard of a man ensnared his baby cousin? Lu Ten knew that Azula's idea had been an awful mistake. Zuko is too sensitive to be exposed to that level of violence every single day. He's always been eager to compete, but never to hurt. Of course such soft and kind soul would begin to care for the prisoner that was his responsability.
To think that filthy nomad took advantage of that care to transform it into infatuation (love, as Zuko had said, like he has any idea of what love is, besides what his plays portray) and then twisted it into this devotion Zuko feels for him... How far had he gone, to win Zuko's heart? He's just a boy, which such a tender heart...They've known each other for a few short months, and still. Still. Zuko feels so much for that man...
And said devotion is what made Ozai snap and punish him in such a savage way. If Lu Ten could bear to separate himself from Zuko's side, he would be dismembering that arrogant bastard himself. Attempts on his life were nothing, but trying to kill Zuko? The sheer audacity makes his blood boil.
His baby cousin's journey to health will be long and arduous. His freedom will be strictly reduced and he will be monitored at all hours. Father will take a long time to forgive him. But he will. The Fire Lord has only ever truly loved three people: his wife, his son...and his 'grandson'. Anyone else and they would be dead already. But Father has always been different with Zuko. And they had time. After all...
The North has been under siege for almost a year. By the time Sozin's Comet arrives, their rebuilt walls will melt all the way and their starved warriors will be easy enough to go through to kill the Royal Family. (He hopes the rumours of their warrior Princess are actually true, and she presents a challenge. If not for him then at least for Azula. Maybe they'll let her remain as Consort to the new Governor. After all, it's important to keep the succession line, even if they previous ruling family are mostly just non-benders.)
Omashu has managed to keep themselves isolated and relatively secured, but now that Ozai had fled there their information well will run dry. The mad king might have discovered how to bend metal, but lava? Lava is a whole different game. Sinking the whole city into molten rock is such a brilliant idea.
And the Avatar? Well, he's sure to fly to where he feels like is secure. High ground. One Temple is already occupied, so three options remain.
Hunting him down again shall be fun.
Sorry it took me so long, I just got incredibly stuck on Lu Ten! And his relationship with Zuko (I may or may not have made 10 different versions of their joint moodboard....) Anyways, tomorrow I'll be posting those ones. And let's just say that Lu Ten is...*fans herself*
Anyways, more backstory:
-In this AU, Ozai almost missed his firstborn's birth because he was too busy 'hunting the Avatar' (and failing, again). He spent about 8 months away, so...
-There have always been rumours about Zuko being either Iroh's or Lu Ten's (since he was 14-15 at the time). The preferential treatment from both of them just feeds the flames.
-(Is either one of them his blood father? No clue! I can't decide, lmao. Still, their relationships with Zuko are very different than with anyone else. Lu Ten's especially adores Zuko. Has and will kill again for him.)
-Ozai absolutely loathes this. If he could have, he would have killed Zuko the minute Azula made sparks. (He never knew if he believed those rumours, and never confronted either of them. He did confront Ursa, and she denied it, obviously. But after the letters of her previous lover...)
-They are both completely aware of said rumours, whereas Zuko isn't. Neither one knows whether the other one slept with Ursa. Neither one asks, they just play a mental game with each other to see which one caves in and aks first.
-Zuko is kept prisoner about 1,5 years. Piandao is still part of the White Lotus (he just faked an injury to retire and went to work as a spy inside the Palace) so he helps him escape when the time is right.
-He finds the Freedom Fighters on the way to where Aang is. He gets along brilliantly with them (since they left the village and are roaming vigilantees).
-In this one, Zuko wears the Blue Spirit Mask when he fights, but as he travels he wears a weimao with a black veil, since his scar is very noticeable.
-Oh, Bumi is the Grand Lotus. Desperate times need desperate meassures.
-Lu Ten and Zuko both train with Piandao. Zuko is trained more in stealth, since he's not the Heir. He manages to make fire dance with his swords. Lu Ten manages to use his sword as a lightning rod and direct his lightning to very specific targets.
-(Yes, Azula does still master the blue flame.)
-Ursa didn't dissapear, she was killed, along with Azulon, by one of Ozai's plots. (I debated a lot whether to keep her or not, but decided not to. Zuko needs some trauma lol)
-Bumi managed to track down some descendants from the Air Nomads, and has kept them hidden and tried to train them. After his escape, Aang takes over and, although they are so few, he's not alone anymore.
-Aang notices that, since he couldn't have weapons with his hands free, and Zuko was allowed shaved him once a month; now he can't do it without thinking about him and missing his shivering inducing touch. Zuko always finished with a kiss to his arrow. He sees him everywhere, even in this place where he's never been.
-Yue became a warrior when in the first full blown attack on the city, a squad managed to get in to try and assassinate the Chief. She pulled with all her will when she saw her father about to be killed and ice spikes came from under them, killing the six soldiers inmediately. She refused to be kept away after that, and most of the women agreed that they needed to be able to fight too. She has a reputation for slashing through whole ships on the full moons.
-Toph only managed to compete (and win, of course) in one Earth Rumble before Gaoling was taken by the Fire Nation. It was all very civil, luckily, but anything that had to do with earthbending was forbidden. She hated the fact that just as she learned what she was missing, it got taken away.
-They were introduced by Lu Ten when she was 10 and Zuko was 14. She and Zuko got along because she noticed to softly he moved around, and how trained he seemed to her senses despite never fighting. So she started throwing rocks at him until he responded (Zuko was horrified for a whole minute while she made her eyes watery, but then bursted out laughing.) They secretly train together ever since.
-Zuko was a nervous wreck when he asked her if she would want to leave and help him with Aang's escape. She made him sweat a little but then told him she'd noticed his coming and goings weeks ago.
-They went to many stealth missions masking them as 'dates', to map the most secure route for their escape.
ALSO. This is important since it won't leave my brain alone
AU OF THE AU: Zuko dies in Lu Ten's arms in the escape. Lu Ten goes on the warpath to absolutely destroy the Avatar and the rest of his group.

AHEMAHEM gaang headcanons? i’m very intrigued with the way ur brain works and the way u see the gaang… /pos
Yes ofc ofc!!!And tysm💗💗💗
They're all somewhere on the autism spectrum and trans.Aang is transmasc genderfluid,Katara is a genderpunk and mermaidkin trans girl,Sokka is a trans man and the token binary,Toph is a transmasc girl,Zuko is transmasc gothgender and Nia is transmascfem
Jet is a member because him dying was an unfair fate from a writing persective and him being used as anti-radical propaganda made me spite make it so he survived the Dai Li assassination attempt. He's bi and transneumasc
No Momtara,Yes Dadko because contrary to what Zutara shippers think parentification to little girls and an abuse victim breaking the cycle of abuse by developing into a parental figure for traumatized kids like they used to be are NOT the same thing
Aang is blasian since the inspo for his design was(The son of a black man on the crew with a chinese wife). He still shaves his head since he's a buddhist but in season 3 when his hair grew out he had baby dreads and he's full Air Nomad, just half of their black etchnic subgroup
Zuko calls Aang 'Mittens'.No reasoning,it just feels right
They all share a bed very often as non-sexual intimacy
And steal food off eachother's plates
Zuko and Nia are like.PAINFULLY obvious and unfiltered with how in love they are from the getgo but the Gaang dosen't try to get them together or constantly shove it in their face since they know they needed to go at their own pace
Aang and Nia started making windchimes for Air Nomad reasons and taught everyone else to
Toph in Book 4,about her parents:
Tumblr media
Sokka has an infamous reputation for causing problems on purpose within the Fire Nation but unlike Katara,it's him being goofy asf instead of an eco-terrorist menace
Katara's actually well-versed on Water Tribe slang and it's history because she read up on it a lot
The Freedom Fighters thought Jet was actually dead and he didn't have a way to get back to them but they made a grand reantrance in Sozin's Comet Part 4 and they had a heartwarming reunion
Aang wears tibetan makeup <333
Nia is Otome Kei style wise and never straightens his hair and instead wears it in black styles!!
Kataang's a lot more middle school romanceish than in canon but specifically their dating dynamic because it felt a bit too mature in the comics? No hate to it but i think this is funner!
Mai,Ty Lee and Azula are honorary members

Miraculous Gaang
Ok so. Ideas.
Sozin Actually used to be part of the Guardian Order, but got into a fight with them over the fact that they are just sitting on these objects of power, not using them to “improve” the world. Eventually results in Sozin stealing the Peacock, then him and Roku duking it out, the Order getting destroyed, and Sozin spending the rest of his life searching for the rest of the Miraculous. Roku dies making sure other people can escape. So, total count of people who manage to flee the Order imploding:
Sozin, with a damaged Peacock Miraculous he can’t use now. He starts his company as a cover to search for the rest of the Miraculous, but he turns out to be a very good business man, so is actually successful. He eventually marries, has kids, and imparts on them the knowledge of the Miraculous, hoping one of them will succeed where he failed.
Roku’s girlfriend, who was pregnant at the time. Of course, the Order didn’t know they were dating, or that she was pregnant. Moves to another city, rebuilds a life, has her kid. Eventually tells them of the Miraculous, when explaining what happened to Dad.
A small assortment of monks, who immediately go into hiding to “preserve their knowledge”.
Gyatso, who was a child at the time. Roku entrusted the kid with the Miracle Box, under the assumption the other monks would protect him when they found him. Instead, Gyatso ended up mostly on his own, and has vowed to protect the Miracle Box as best he can.
Other idea, that Gyatso mostly uses the Turtle, which extends his lifespan, but briefly, much later, tried to use the Butterfly to help people, which resulted in it getting lost, someone dying, and Gyatso adopting baby!Aang. He is trying REAL HARD to balance “Good Parent, let kids be kids, freedom is important” with “Guilt™, Protective™, Oh God, I can’t let you get hurt like that”.
Then, so far, I think we have:
- Ladybug!Sokka
- Black Cat!Katara
- Turtle!Aang
- Dragon!Zuko
- Rabbit!Yue
- Pig!Jin
- Bee!Ty Lee
- Mouse!Mai
- Fox!Azula, or Monkey!Azula
- Tiger!Toph, or Ox!Toph
- Tiger!Suki, or Snake!Suki (for the record, I feel like the weapons could change a bit to match the wielder, so Suki could still have fans)
Also, if this isn’t Paris, we can just set it in Modern Style, Ba Sing Se?
(thoughts, feelings, opinions, ideas?)
-
Okay okay okay
So I think my main thought is that we now have an explaination of sorts for the Ursa/Ozai pairing.
Which is that ofc Sozin passed the torch of looking for the Miraculous to Azulon, and he eventually discovered Roku’s descendants. Azulon looks at that and goes ‘hey my youngest son is single and roughtly the same as that girl. Ozai you up to seduce her for information?’.
I don’t think Ursa would fall for him. Partly because she def still had her own fiance already but also like. Ozai can only do so much ‘charming’. So he probably ends up intimidating her into a relationship. Either because he’s trying to get information, or from some entitled ‘how dare you turn me down?’ thing.
I think I’m gonna lock in Tiger!Toph and Snake!Suki. And Azula with the Fox is too tempting considering Vulpyro.
Also yeah It doesn’t have to be Paris. Some modern city. Idk if i’d use Ba Sing Sae like it works but I think there could be like a name for the city itself while the different districts are named after the atla locations.
My thoughts on the Peacock:
/technically/ it’s not needed, but I can have some fun. I know it was mentioned on giving it to Azula, but I want Azula unaware of what Ozai’s doing. Mostly because she has more of an early redemption (she was still in contact with Zuko and Iroh so while she’s not fully redeemed she’s not loyal to him), so if she knew what he was doing she’d rat him out. He’s mostly using her to rile people up to be Akumatized.
So we have two options for the Peacock in my mind. One  is the OC I had made for the Avatar!Ty Lee AU because she’s /basically/ Nathalie if she was more unhinged and evil.
The second one is Zhao because tbh while we dunk on him at times, he was Book 1′s main villain and was actually good at what he was doing.

Throne of Glass reread thoughts that no one on earth asked for.
-- Duke Perrington throws her to the floor. IT'S HIM IT'S HIM KILL HIM NOW DONT YOU FUCKING TOUCH HER YOU PRICK.
-- ""Your Highness," Chaol Westfall snapped at her.
"What?" Celaena asked." Responding to 'Your Highness' because she fucking is. Oh, you beautiful, sassy bitch, I love you 💗
-- "Still the image haunted his dreams throughout the night: a lovely girl gazing at the stars, and the stars who gazed back" echoes of ACOTAR
-- If Endovier isn't based on Auschwitz, I'll eat my hat.
-- Celaena chucking a flowerpot at Kaltain. Priceless.
-- "She saw the floor first. Red marble, its white veins illuminated in the light of the sun." Like a children's hospital.
-- Nothung. Dumbass name.
-- obsidian is a favorite of mine, and SJM just runs its good name through the dirt with all these obsidian eyes and the towers.
-- A complaint I've heard about this book before is how often someone sneaks up on Celaena while she's asleep. "She's an assassin! No one should be able to sneak up on her ever!" I'm sorry, are YOU able to control how deeply you sleep? Because I can't. I'll sleep through a thunderstorm and then get woken up by a child laughing outside. Like...it is what it is and I don't think it's something you can TRAIN. Besides which, she's spent a year in a death camp. She probably had to sleep through a lot of horrible noises.
-- "I can act and talk like a lady if it pleases me." Okay, Toph.
-- NEHEMIA
-- Chaol asking about her scars, "What did you do to deserve it?" Why don’t you SHUT THE FUCK UP? How could you ask someone who had been a SLAVE in a DEATH CAMP for a YEAR what she did to DESERVE being WHIPPED? He really is a piece of shit and I will never understand what Celeana and Yrene and Nesryn see in him. How does this grumpy loser keep pulling tens? They can do better.
-- hey look, it's The Walking Dead which had a cameo in Crescent City.
-- "The Duke was ambitious, but certainly not a threat to the castle or its inhabitants." DING DONG, YOU WERE WRONG!!!!
-- sweet baby Fleetfoot!!
-- I understand why Celeana didn't pick Dorian. He's the son of the man who destroyed your world (even if he is handsome, charming, loves books, and gives you a puppy. I'd be a goner for him). But to choose Chaol instead? Ugh. Just wait and hope for better things. Like Rowan. Or even Nox. Like CHAOL after SAM? Major downgrade, babe.
-- Kaltain having a peacock themed gown and mask at the ball reminds me of the wicked stepsister in Ever After. Excellent reference or fun coincidence?
-- "I name you Elentiya, 'Spirit That Could Not Be Broken.'" Oh, Nehemia. You deserved so much better. You deserved to live to see Aelin put things right.
Tumblr media
-- "I've never had a pet. I never wanted one." Jesus, what kind of sociopath are you, Chaol?? Ugh. Massive red flag for me.
-- Nehemia giving her the staff. Hell yeah.
-- "it make no difference if my name's Celaena or Lillian or Bitch, because I'd still beat you no matter what you call me. " THAT'S MY GIRL
-- The plot is so...simple when you compare it to Kingdom of Ash. But it's still SO good.

If you know one (or two) things about me, it’s that I am occasionally chronically late to a fandom (sometimes accidental, sometimes on purpose), so I missed the ATLA renaissance, but I found my way around to it, which means! Recs!
This is going to be majority Sokka/Zuko, with a couple others in here. There’s def a second post coming as I make my way through the tag. As ever, master rec post can be found pinned on my tumblr here!
Zukka ATLA Recs
Ignition Point by Yuu_chi

Forgive me but I love the secret baby trope...
think about separated linzin who had a last night that resulted in a pregnancy, lin wants to tell tenzin but he announces their engagement before she can get up the courage
she just goes away and leaves everything behind, she doesn't feel like she's really leaving anything
Everyone ends up neglecting her disappearance thinking that she needs time to process Tenzin's new relationship, but in the end she never comes back...
I think she may have gone to the North Pole, lived in secret being just lin
for the first time without being a beifong or toph's daughter or the air nation's future girlfriend
she has a boy, she has Tenzin's eyes and I think during the birth she cries for the lack of Tenzin rather than the pain - the same day the baby is born is Pema and Tenzin's wedding
he is an airbender.
At some point in his life someone sees him bending it's news in some newspaper, the next day everyone knows about a possible new dominator, Lin has to drop everything and leave for fear of someone finding out what she's been keeping secret for years
maybe she goes to the fire nation, lives in a small village and maybe she's a little too hard on her son forbidding him from using his bending, but he's only 4 years old he doesn't understand what his existence applies to the world
At this point, investigations into his disappearance probably indicate a possible suicide or something similar (a psychological breakdown is also considered)
Brísa is a good name, I think
I think he's similar to Toph in temperament, which is funny considering his bending
I think this gives you the courage to send a call to your mother in the future, letting her know that you are fine and apologizing for saying this just now
lin really thought she was going to get a lecture for everything that made everyone go through her disappearance but toph just cries when she hears her voice - it broke her a little, sorry lin is still a mommy's girl
while they talk (really talk) I think Brísa calls Lin with "MOMMY" and there is a long silence between the two and then Lin just hangs up...
Toph knows very well what she heard and knows very well that she is not too old to pass out... she knew that Lin had disappeared because of Tenzin but she never assumed that a son would be the reason
Ever since this possible dominator appeared in the newspapers, Tenzin hasn't slept well.
