That has presaged every TPK I've ever seen. The only times that all the players get wiped out is when someone's like 'We gotta run' and they spend their turn runninng, and the next person is like 'I'm gonna follow them' and the third person says 'Shit, the artifact! I'm gonna swing twice and get the artifact' and then person number four goes 'Are we staying or are we running? I'm gonna cast a spell to try to pull the artifact, OK they saved, shit umm, I'm gonna move into this hedge for better cover for next round' and the first person is like 'Next round?! Well I'm gonna run back then!' and now you're blowing your action economy, and the damage is piling up, and that's when people die."

given some tags on my post from last night, I feel like there should be more fucked up Harry/Tom/B'Elanna codependent fic out there... If Tom and B'Elanna are just closeted and in denial and got together as a way to stave off the existential dread of surviving on Voyager + they both get weirdly possessive of Harry even though they don't exactly include him in the relationship (unless it's to make a quip) + Harry only seems to be able to form relationships with women who are for one reason or another only there very temporarily + Harry and B'Elanna at different times having tried to hurt Tom when under the influence of Alien Bullshit + Tom being at times a terrible boyfriend to B'Elanna and a terrible friend to Harry... idk. great food for angst and slow self-obliteration with no happy ending (there isn't one on the show either, if you don't believe in marriage as a goal)

The DM urge to pick a nice, easy monster with a low CR for your player's first level 1 encounter and then almost accidentally cause a TPK

almost had a TPK running the Death House during the first session of a new Strahd campaign. first time I've ever gotten that close when DM-ing

4 characters almost died

-> 1 was reduced to 1 hp twice (human artificer (artillerist))

-> 1 managed to succeed on his death saves (human monk)

-> 1 got to 0 hp but was stabilised by the party healer before she had to make more death saves (tiefling rogue)

-> then the healer fails his death saves (changeling druid)

BUT THERE'S MORE

-> the only character who remained unscathed (human reborn artificer (alchemist)) took a permanent hp max reduction to revive the dead character, basically sharing their life force

-> so the party healer is now also a reborn

And we haven't even gotten to the final boss of this module because we ran out of time

I whole-heartedly believe that Matt is going to be like, "haha, you thought everyone was dead but ACTUALLY everyone is alive and fine, AND THIS IS HOW!"

We know Matt (DM wise), and he isn't one to be this brutal while they are so low level. This wasn't a fight they could win, nor was it a fight they could run from considering how well she hopped around the board. Matt has something up his sleeve, I can feel it in my bones. Storytelling is at the heart of all his decisions, and this was storytelling. Plus, his players trust him. They've been playing together for 7+ years. If they trust him, we can trust him too.

But fuck and I scared! That episode is going to haunt me forever...

(short) I was given Awareness to feel shame and pain.

There was loss. And then darkness. Then a incredible pain inside my being with a hot light so strong it blinded me of anything or any memories.

A forceful crack in my blind darkness showing actual light peering in, and then more cracks till I was forced out by a pale hand, grabbing a appendage that felt close to my darting eye.

“Feel Blackwyrm, come to have a mind and see the shame of your lost battle, the cripple of your being and the disgust you show me your  existence to be.”

The emotion and pain I felt was so strongly and awful. It overwhelmed me much that in no time my eyes start to pour, and I couldn't voice right to make the sensation stop, letting out only gurgles and whimpers instead.

I was brought to feel only the pain of my malformed being and the raging shame of my lost war. 

I don't think he intended me to survive. The Pale being dropped me in my carcass and I could barely move from all the pain. But I couldn't let go.

I started mindlessly munching my old corpse to nourish me back to health. I was able to go deeper and try to form again with all that I had.

when Tom and Harry drag B'Elanna into their dnd holodeck program she picks 'bard' as a class on a lark and then she gets into rp-ing her character so much she's the one who drags them into their biweekly sessions
