One of my favourite things about Nureyev’s speech pattern is that it’s clearly that of a non-native speaker who’s poured a lot of practice into how he thinks he should sound.

 The meticulous, old-timey diction; the unusual and flowery vocabulary; the elocution and sentence construction...is something I recognize in a lot of fellow immigrants.

It makes me think of a boy who watched whatever pre-war solar movie had made its way to Brahma and repeated ‘perhaps’ after a 24th century Humphrey Bogart over and over. It makes me think of a boy who grabbed old solar books from charity shops, whatever he could find, fiction, mythology, politics, old engines instruction booklets, and memorized all the big words and heroic speeches. With the flair of a theatre kid, he’d repeat after Cary Grant "Not only did I enjoy that kiss last night, I was awed by the efficiency behind it" until it felt right. 

 All he had was dated material, endless curiosity, and a lot of discipline. He set out to be unclockable, and he ended up with a very unique voice, one that stands out in a rugged Martian crowd, one that is as hard to forget as a cologne that smells of far away spices.

Me before listening to TPP: I’ll relate to Juno for sure he’s a bi disaster who represses his emotions.

My post-season 1 Peter head canon is that he completely threw himself into his work and did job after job, jumping from planet to planet to try and forget about Juno (spoiler: it didn’t work) and pushed himself much deeper into his fake roles cus he wanted to erase all trace of Peter Nureyev. All of his new aliases would never fall in love, would never trust someone with his deepest secrets or open up and have it all blow up in his face, they’re smarter and know to keep people at arms length and keep all their emotions neat and tidy, folded into their correctly marked boxes where they will promptly be forgotten about.

Tw: Gender dysphoria mention

I want to very much express this but as someone who is nonbinary and kins Juno Steel, this sort of makes me feel better. I'm not good at explaining but I'll try.

When I'm feeling dysphoric, I seek my comfort food for my dysphoria which is McDonald's. Now, I use he/they pronouns exclusively and would like to be referred to with male titles mostly such as guy, boy, mister (or mx), etc... But I always get misgendered in McDonald's, especially when I go there because I'm feeling dysphoric. I usually get referred to as "young lady." So, when Juno is referred to as lady I feel quite gender euphoric and now I am actually okay with being referred to as lady. I kinda just imagine lady being a very sassy classy version of gentlemen but both and all titles associate with those two I mentioned are appreciated.
