I think a lot of discussions would be made better by recognizing that masculinity and femininity aren't inherently preferred, but adherence to cishet standards is, which is slightly different.

This is why a masculine trans man* or a feminine trans woman* often still face stigma - it isn't that they aren't gender conforming to the gender they are. It is that cishetero standards do not want trans people to exist at all, in any capacity.

Where did the nickname 'sapling' come from? I've seen it in fan art and writing and was just curious!!

I......... might have to take the blame for that? A long time ago, I used it in a fairly popular fic. I remember because I was mid-scene and thinking 'hmm, what other nicknames/terms of endearment would Bill use for Dipper?' to vary up terms in my writing, then thinking 'Pine Tree, so, tree related. And a small tree is a sapling, and that sounds kinda cute!'. Of course others may have also come to the same conclusion independently, but I hadn't seen it before!
