Trine: 2023-24 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Champions

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Cortez Garland scored 22 points and Nate Tucker scored 13 points and Trine University beat Hampden-Sydney 69-61 on Saturday to claim the NCAA Division III national championship.

It's the first men's college basketball championship for the Thunder (29-4), who entered the 64-team tournament ranked 13th in the country. Hampden-Sydney (31-3) ranked No. 1.

Aidan Smylie scored 12 points and Drew Moore added 10 for Trine of Angola, Indiana.

Adam Brazil was the lone player for Hampden-Sydney (Sydney, Virginia) to score in double-digits with 23 points but was 6-for-22 shooting.

The Tigers led 25-23 at the break before Garland tied it with a jump shot, provided a pair of foul shots for a two-point lead and then buried a 3-pointer to complete his 7-0 run in less than two minutes. The Thunder led the remainder.

Smylie sank a 3 with 5:47 left made it 50-41 in Trine's favor before Hampton-Sydney closed within three off a pair of foul shots by Ryan Clements, a layup by Davidson Hubbard and jump shot from Josiah Hardy.

But Cortez Garland countered with a three-point play, brother Fred Garland made a 3 and Cortez Garland made a jumper to make it 59-48 with 2:13 left and the Thunder cruised from there.

Trine went 6 for 6 from the foul line in the last 33 seconds. The Thunder went 22 for 25 from the foul line overall.

How are the Elite trine's relationships with each other?

Starscream is a treacherous, screeching narcissistic that acts like a victim when it serves him best.

Thundercracker occasionally threatens to rip off body parts. And sometimes he just does it unprovoked. No bark, all bite.

Skywarp and is an antagonistic psycho. Enjoys making everyone just as miserable as him.

So Would it surprise you if I said they view each other as family. They all say they don’t care but they do.

The thrine has know each other since they were all first made to be soldiers even before the war. Starscream climbed the ranks and for a time and for a time it would seem like he’d leave them behind. But when higher ups decided to throw out the seeker model, mostly because there was no need for them with nothing to fight. Starscream kept them all together and made sure they weren’t destroyed. Not just the thrine either but many other seekers.

Lower Seeker view Starscream their king in a way and would fight to the death for him. (That was before megatron of course.)

To starscream the thrine is the only ones he can confidently say they wouldn’t betray him. Soon Novastorm was included in their group.

The thrine are the only ones Starscream would actively fight and look out for. (Slipstream is on a whole other different level of how hard he’d fight for her.)

Thundercracker loves them. When Starscream and Skywarp get hurt he panics. He knows he’s not the smartest mech but he tries his best to think logically in bad situations.

He’ll lay hands Skywarp after many, many warnings, usually he doesn’t give warnings to people he doesn’t like or care about. And he definitely does not dish out as much punishment as he would. Starscream has listened to the warnings. However Thunders, started letting Star get away with way more when Slipstream came about. Starscream loves that he doesn’t even get warnings anymore and Thunders will just growl at him.

Skywarp has the most complicated relationship with them. He knows he could have been an even better flier than Star. He feels like he’s kind of a burden to the rest of them. So he’ll openly antagonize them to get a reaction. He thinks if they fight him that they still view him as equal. It’s almost affirming to him. If he’s not being an asshole or bitching, he’s thinking. Probably wayy overthinking. He cares about them both, but sometimes Thunders and Star wonder if he’ll just turn on them on day. He’s the loner of the flock.

There have been times TC and Star have saved his ass or even helped him fly because he was struggling and they actually don’t like to see him hurt. Skywarp hates it, it’s like they are babying him. It makes him angry.

He’s like their edgy younger brother.

Ok, ok, ok- hear me out! The main trine of Seekers, but they're outliers and absolutely overpowered.

So, Starscream is immortal as usual. I mean it, he just cannot die. No matter how hard everyone (or himself) tries, he just doesn't die... or at least his Spark, and when I have the time, I'll elaborate and give him complications because yeah.

Thundercracker can control electricity, idk how idk why, but I need him to have a cooler power than just idk sonic booms. Let him live to his name. When there's a battle and there's a storm, I want him to be fkn overpowered. "Isn't it too much?" NO??? Just take a look at Trailbreaker or MEGATRON??? You can't stop me from giving my Boi cooler powers. Obviously, complications- but not now, now I need him to be cool and smile for the camera.

Now... now this one will sound crazy but! Skywarp. So, he can warp himself, now imagine him warping himself super fast at close distance. Not just fast, super fast, like for a VERY short amount of time it almost looks as if he cloned himself. Do you see where this is going? He can't do it for more than a few seconds or he's dead lol.

Now imagine you're a simple autobot on the battlefield, it starts raining, I mean like- a lor, very bad weather okay? Now you hear three jet-engines, and the sky is lit up by thunders.

Now you raise your head up to the sky and here they are. They're even worse than the tales that surround them. Thundercracker is redirecting thunders everywhere on the battlefield, Starscream is on a killing rampage and nothing is stopping him and then Skywarp starts diving towards you and suddenly there are like... 5 of them who shoot in your direction before becoming one once again.

You're fucked. You're all absolutely fucked.

Rodimus shifted, turning his head to nuzzle further into Thunderclash’s side.

The red and yellow speedster frowned. What was that?

Alright, what was that? Rodimus cracked one eye open and peered into the darkness surrounding his sleeping trine. The chirps and coos were very clear, as if right next to him. He lifted his head enough to look over at the sleeping jet on the other side of Thunder’s chest. He appeared to be sound asleep, an arm curled around a precious little bundle.

Chirrr-eep!

Rodimus spotted a pair of tiny hands reach up from the blanket Hawk was using as both a pillow and nest and grab his pointed nose. Another small chirp sounded from the little sparkling in his arm.

Coo…

Starhawk’s stabilizers fluttered and his lips twitched. He sleepily nudged his nose against Gracequake’s little hands as he purred out a few coos and trills, the sounds deep enough to be felt lightly rumbling across Thunderclash’s plating and into Rodimus’ own.

Ah, so the sounds were coming from those two. Interesting.

:Is Gracequake making those chirps?: Rodimus almost jumped when he received a private comm from Thunderclash. He looked up at the large bot’s golden face, seeing a sliver of red under hooded eyelids.

:Yeah, looks like she is.:

:Interesting…: Thunder’s chest slowly rose and fell with a sigh :I’m almost certain that’s seeker speak. Some form of it anyway, doesn’t sound Vosian.:

:Yeah?: Rodimus watched as Grace pawed at Starhawk’s silver face, chirping and trilling some more. His spark fluttered fondly as he noted the small smile on the resting flier’s face.

:Well, Gracequake is a grounder, not a flier.:

Ahh, that was kinda strange. Though come to think of it, Novabird didn’t chirp like a seeker when he was a bitty, and he was the only one of their three kids who could fly. Perhaps Gracequake just so happened to have inherited that special something? Who knows, it probably didn’t matter either. It was cute to listen and watch as she blindly explored the face of one of her parents with her soft little hands.

It looked like it was making Starhawk happy too, which was nice. These days his temper was quick to flare at even minor inconveniences. Despite all the movie nights, salty and sour energon candies, fancy polishes, slow dances in the privacy of their shared quarters, and even a couple of shiny objects as appeasement gifts, it was often difficult for Rodimus and Thunderclash to keep him content.

:But we’re not as tiny and adorable as Gracequake is,: Thunderclash reasoned. Rodimus gave the larger mech’s side a harsh yet playful prod.

:Whaaaat? I’m plenty cute!:

Thunders couldn’t help the chuckle that rattled his chest. Starhawk��s stabilizers waggled as he lifted his head to face the other two, one eye stubbornly sealed shut with sleep, “what’re you talkin’ ‘bout?”

“Nothing much,” Rodimus shrugged a shoulder before reaching an arm across Thunderclash’s chest, holding a finger out for Gracequake to grab onto. She had a pretty solid grip for something so small and delicate, “just how cute little Gracie is.”

Hawk’s stabilizers again waggled as he purred an agreement. He struggled to keep his eye open as he watched Rodimus wiggle his captured finger, getting the little sparkling to giggle and tighten her grip.

Starhawk let out a half-sparked huff when Thunderclash pushed his crest down over his eyes, silently telling him it was time to sleep. The jet didn’t have the energy to object as he shifted to get more comfortable and was softly snoring within seconds.

I was watching Dumbo with my nieces and nephews and when ‘Baby Mine’ started, it got me thinking of Girl Dad! Megatron and the fact that Megatron is/was a poet.

Two scenarios popped in my head;

One: Megatron comes back from a mission heavily injured and his young daughter/s are distressed at the sight of him and the idea that he almost died, so he lets her/them climb next to him and he holds her/them and hums or recites ‘Baby Mine.’

Two: An ‘Autobots Win AU’ where Megatron is imprisoned and set to stand trial/executed and before any of that, Optimus being the bleeding heart he is even for his old friend/enemy, lets Megatron see his daughter/s one last time. The girl/s are confused and scared and latch onto Megatron and Megatron, possibly already accepting his fate of being executed, comforts them by either humming or reciting ‘Baby Mine’ until their time is up and Optimus or some other Autobots come and take the girl/s away and leaving Megatron alone.

Anon, I say lean into it because I need more heartbreak, especially after rewatching the scene. It hits harder as an adult...

In the first one, their kids' mother died from medical complications. The youngest girl doesn't remember, but the oldest sister does.

The kids only have a vague idea what's going on, but it's the oldest that grasps the full extent as-

Megatron could be heard, either by their thundering voice or their personal communication lines. The fact that he's quiet and no one is allowing them access to the medbay is absolutely chillingly telling.

Rumble and Frenzy, along with Skywarp, are keeping the girls company. The twins are the most battle capable of Soundwave's cassettes, and the Seeker can teleport with the two kids. If Megatron dies on the operating table, the aftermath will get ugly.

Their dad pulls through, but he's in really rough shape.

Que a quiet and private scene between them. The girls are in their human alt-mode to keep weight off him as Megatron hums "Baby Mine."

It's a lullaby their mother used to sing to them during her pregnancy and to help them sleep.

Even drugged to the gills, Megatron blankets them with his EM field, curling around them.

There are rising tensions within the faction, but (for once) Starscream and Soundwave are in an agreement: Keep the kids safe.

Megatron's personal quarters are absolutely a fortress in and of itself, but outside the girls watched by the cassettes or Starscream's trine. Between Thundercracker's heavy weight and willingness to cook a mech in their own fluids with a deadly hug and Skywarp's feral brutality to pitch himself against everyone and anyone, very few will directly make a move against them. Soundwave had built his cassettes upon the principles of stealth, espionage, and sabotage. There is very little that can escape Soundwave’s notice.

Megatron will want the names of the mechs that attempted anything towards his girls when he recovers.

The second scenario is honestly much more dark with all the political intrigue involved, especially if the girls do have a Cybertronian root-mode with a human alt-mode.

Autobot High Command would be deadlocked on how to handle them. The only thing they can agree on is not to send them back to Earth. Vehemently.

The girls are far too high-risk to fully leave alone, especially with major players of Decepticon High Command still out there that will use them as a focal point to rally the remaining faction. Not to mention the many interested parties back on Earth that would love to get their hands on living, breathing amalgamations between Man and Machine, especially with citizenship up in the air...

With exile off the table, the options are quietly executing them, political bonding, or indefinite imprisonment.

I think it would be Optimus that allows them to visit their father as Megatron's last rites. It would twist the knife between old enemies' wounds, especially with Optimus witnessing a tender moment of Megatron with his girls as the defeated Warlord privately comms the Autobot leader as he quietly sings to his terrified children:

:: Think of it as an extension, Prime. Should you choose to execute them as well, then let them die with me. Let them have that comfort. No matter how paltry it is. ::

seekers pride themselves on their light and trim frame's except for Skywarp and Thundercracker.

Warp is a sex fiend with some real tits, huge and bouncy topped with black nozzle piercings. He's love when other bots tug on them and treat them rough. Sometimes Warp wants them even bigger till all anyone can talk about is the seeker with fat enormous boobs. Maybe by gaining weight?

TC got big by accident. As he got engrossed into earth culture he started flying less and watching television more. He would absently snack and eat while watching his shows and soon his belly and thighs are struggling to stay in his armor. He doesn't really care though so has no intention of changing that.

Between these two is Starscream, far too proud of his perfect seeker body as his trine become fat and soft. He won't admit it but he dearly loves chubby bots and wants so dearly to break the act and smother between Skywarp and Thundercracker's bodies.

Sky/warp with big tiddies and piercings is not something I've thought of before and I love it. He's 100% the sex fiend of the Nemesis, going around, charming bots into berth or just randomly popping his chestplates on "accident" and asking for "help" closing them. He's even asked Star/scream and Shock/wave if they had anything to help enhance his boob size. It doesn't really matter to him once he starts eating, because most of it goes to his chest anyway. Key word: most.

Thunder/cracker totally absentmindedly eats when watching or reading something he likes. It's a habit for him; watching a human movie (he likes LoTR the best because of how long it is) with two bowls of popcorn by him because he usually ends up eating a whole bowl a quarter in. Soon, he realizes how much he's gained when he realizes he can set the popcorn bowl on his huge belly and keep it there, but he doesn't mind. It makes snacking easier.

I LOVE TRINESHIPPING they've got such a cool thing going on and I've seen a lot of great fics of it, though I wish we get more trine interactions in the future (even if canon doesn't outright call it a tribe) one of my favorite g1 ships. Love how they balance each other out

I don't know a lot of ships with sunstorm, but I Am Taking You Seriously and suggesting Sunstorm x Rung as a crackship because we have Primus sitting right there. That, or fun mortal x god bullshit that's always fun.
