How do you think the High School Musical series/Troyella's relationship would have gone if Ms Darbus had not given Troy and Gabriella a callback?

... Good god, Anon, it has been over ten years since I watched that movie and I didn't like it at the time.

It always struck me as sanitized, knock-off, toned-down Grease.

But alright, we'll go off what I very vaguely remember.

I think ultimately the relationship wouldn't have taken off.

The thing about the musical was it brought a whole bunch of shit to the surface for both of them where they both immediately had to take a stand against their friends and what were supposed to be their main interests.

Had it not been for the musical, then Troy would have continued basketball and could have kept his singing thing on the sly, Gabriella could hang out with Troy every once in a while but would quickly be warned away against seeing him too often in public because of the status quo and "Wouldn't want to ruin your social life gurl" and Sharpay and her brother can have their... very weird dynamic and get the musical for themselves.

They'd likely remain friends but it'd be harder and harder to hang out as they have to do so pretty much on the sly as neither is invited to the other's friend group.

Nothing would ultimately push them together the way the musical would have.

one thing i love about high school musical is it commits so fully to its "everybody has their one thing" premise that romance is like. unimaginable. chad is like a GIRL??? what about BASKETBALL?? you are supposed to be basketball-oriented what the hell is this bullshit. like you know there is no degrading locker room talk at east high because they are just saying basketball words to each other. "girl" is not in the language.
