‼️ Ethnic Features ‼️

So, the art world is in a very weird place when it comes to ethnic features. The conversation was about how using POC ethnic features as an insult in media was damaging and needed to stop, and that somehow morphed into people being scared about drawing people with those features.

Black people have big ears, big noses, and big lips. That's not the problem. The problem was that media was using it to make us look like giant ape, monkey, monster creatures. It's okay to give them these defining features.

Also, remember that brown people have lighter pigment under their feet, hands, and bottom lips. 🌸 (didn’t really know where to put this but drawing mix people is basically a spin the wheel we come in all different shapes and sizes and features. There’s really no wrong way to draw a mixed POC.)

‼️ It's Just My Style ‼️

I'm so goddamn tired of hearing this goddamn excuse. A style does not mean you can't properly represent POC. I would even go on to say that if your style is stunting you so grossly that you can't draw a proper black person, you have a bad art style. Sorry—not really.

Media has shown us that style does not stop representation. The only thing stopping that is your ignorance and refusal to improve. Great examples of ranging styles still being able to represent different POC are "Adventure Time," "Disney's Soul," "Proud Family," "Afro Samurai," etc. I'm just saying this because I've seen this excuse be more prevalent in the art world, and it's just better to nip that in the bud.

‼️ Whitewashing + I Don't Know How to Use the Color Brown ‼️

I've seen people make the excuse that the skin color is lighter because they use a pastel style, but they never bring up the fact that the only color in the art that's lighter is the skin tone. 💀

Also, the whole thing about people saying they don't know how to shade and color brown palettes is just completely bullshit. I would even say that trying to shade pale colors is harder than shading darker colors. Additionally, there are multiple artists and tutorials showing you exactly how it's done. You have no excuses other than you just don't want to.

‼️ Black Hairstyles ‼️

I love dreads. Dreads are a very pretty hairstyle. However, we have more hairstyles other than dreads. If you're going to draw black characters, I would encourage you to branch out and explore beyond dread heads. There are so many unique black hairstyles out there. We need to move on from just focusing on dreads.

YouTuber Ari has two wonderful videos on black hairstyles in video games. I would recommend checking them out.

I love referencing old black media such as "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," "The Proud Family," and "Little Bill" (before all the Bill Cosby stuff came out). I also appreciate how "House of the Dragon" implemented black people into the lore. Other references include "BOTW/TOTK Rottmnt," etc.

Some artists I reference all the time are Mohammed Agbadi, who doesn't do many art tutorials anymore but often discusses black characters in media, and his art is still amazing. Ethan Becker has a very interesting video on the racist triangle that I recommend checking out.

On Instagram, I love the art of Jojo.Dreamie, Chibichanga12 (holy shit, love their art), Bruniosktch, and Caw.Chan. I also just reference my family a lot. 💀

you know what's weird? I did both of these within days of each other. They look like they were drawn by 2 different artists. I did the bottom one first, and after I finished it I was like "you know, this isn't what I wanted the art to look like". So I did it over. The bottom one I feel like I was trying to emulate that cute chibi charm style that I always see, but realize that's not really my thing at all. I still love charms and the idea of them, but my style doesn't suit the majority of what people are looking for. But when I made my Monkey Island/King's Quest charm, having the connection of someone recognizing it and getting excited while also liking the style of it is huge to me, so sometimes I have to remind myself to stay true to myself and draw from the heart.

Consider an au with the soul mate identify trope of your writing on your skin showing up in the skin of your soulmate. Obviously shadowpeach are soulmates . Would them during their nemesis Era use that to torment/taunt the other(insults, threats,etc) or would they pretend it didn't exist

i don't think Macky would use their "link," so to speak, as a means to torment or taunt (not including swk because it was honestly Macadoodle who was the instigator and provoker throughout their nemesis dynamic in lmk). and i feel like Wukong's punishment under the 5 Phases Mt. would cut off their communication the fastest because even if Macky wrote on his arm, Wukong would never see it or be able to write back (which Mackarell is very aware of). after their fight, neither would be able to write back an apology or even scribble some sweet drawing if they still can't find the right words. so, it's possible that because of this 500 year pause of communication, their old habit of scribbling and writing notes on their arms faded pretty quickly.

and then Wukong is free. his arms are no longer fused with rock. his arms are bare, obviously. he feels that old itch to scribble or write something on them, but he doesn't follow through with it. he can't. not after what the both of them had said to each other. sure, centuries passed but how would Wukong know if Macky would be happy to learn he's okay, that he's free. the last thing Macky even said to him was that he was tired of being dragged along by Wukong, so....maybe Wukong shouldn't drag Macky along any further.

and then they meet again, and Macky is pissed. whether at Wukong or for him, it's hard for the monkey king to tell because Macky is mad and bloodthirsty and he is hurting Wukong friends. he is impersonating Wukong, trying to steal his journey--not even his, it's Tripitaka's, his master's-- trying to fool everyone into think that Wukong is nothing more than a demon who desires for nothing but to consume the world of its power and reign as the greatest there's ever been-

then Macky is dead. everything happened to fast, but there the monkey lies on the ground, arms bare. they have always been bare ever since the war they started with Heaven centuries ago. Macky's arms are bare and so are Wukong's.

when Macky wakes up/is revived the memory of their link and broken bond is still fresh, but for Wukong, it's been a long, long time.

Wukong has grown to become used to the scribbles and ink on his arms to never be reciprocated. he doesn't even write or draw on them that much, just when the itch to do something is strong but he's got no spare paper or spare mural room. he even allows his little Suns write or scribble on him just for fun or when they're bored. he even allows MK, who's arms are always filled to the brim with scribbles by the time the kid arrives for training.

Macky did not expect to ever wake up one day and find his arm full of ink. he clawed it at since washing it off didn't work. there's a strange sort of limbo Macky's mind seems to go into whenever he considers the reason for why Wukong is still scribbling, still adding life to their link. all throughout seasons 1 to 3 Macky figured it was because Wukong had eventually moved on enough to stop caring.

and yes, Wukong did move on. but he never stopped caring. Macky hadn't believed that until he was with MK in that scroll.

and it's strange. to find out that the person you once loved still loves you (how much or how different is still unclear). it's even stranger when you realize that you, yourself, do not still hold love from the past but for the present, for the future.

after Azure's defeat, there's some new scribbles on both of their arms. Wukong swears he didn't change his style, so obviously it must be Macquackity himself who'd done it (then he starts to smile while holding his arms tightly to his chest). Macky just huffs and claims that it's better than boredom (then draws on a sun and a moon on the wrist of his arms).

Redson - honestly prioritizes personality over anything else. He’s a demon, they literally come in every shape and size! Since she’s canonically a streamer I could totally see her gushing about how gorgeous you are to her chat, and then when they see you for the first time, they lose their minds because she was so right

MK - he doesn’t care how your body looks, he thinks you’re the most good-looking being to grace this earth! Because of his powers he can definitely lift you up at any given moment, so be prepared for that! Probably really loves cuddling up with you when you sleep over with him. Also draws you a lot cause he thinks you’re that good-looking!

SWK - he’s chill with whatever to be honest, if you had three heads he’d probably kiss each one so some curves don’t make a difference to him! He probably brags about you to the other monkeys or even to MK. “Look at them! Heaven better look out, cause one of their angels is missing!” Hypes you up a lot, but again, he’ll chill out if you want him to. Also, bc he’s crazy strong, he will also lift you up from time to time, mostly so he can bridal carry you. Whether it’s fun or an inconvenience is really a matter of opinion!

Macaque - he doesn’t care what you look like, he’s just happy to have you in his life! He’s flirty by default though so prepare to be flustered…he knows exactly how to make you blush, especially when it comes to complimenting your appearance. He won’t necessarily show you off, but by the gods you can see how proud he is to be with you and how you both look amazing together. His shadow clones love ganging up on you and flirting with you to the point where he’ll have to step in lmao.

I'm so sorry I wasn't active I was doing something. Drawing some shit like this. I even made my sketchbook a bit chunky. (I'm using gramarly cuz English is my second language)

The first is Monkey Y/n, who is a half-human and half-monkey demon. And like she is a witch. I like thinking something about witches. THEY ARE MY SECOND FAVORITE MONSTERS. Like she used to be friends with Six-eared Macaque. Macaque was a pre-teen (9-11) and Y/n is in her early teens (13-14). Later as adults, they started a relationship. Y/n is a chill and confused gf while Macaque is like flirty and crazy in love. Everything changed when Y/n back from a mission while being away for like half a year until she heard that Macaque was killed by the hands of Monkey King. It outrages her and wanted to get her revenge on Wukong but realized her neckless wasn't with Macaque anymore. It was odd. You thought Monkey King stole it but you managed to find it it was covered in dirt and broken. It almost looks like it wasn't needed. Then there was a realization and breakdown then y/N promised to fall in love again or get tricked and yadayadayadayada she diseppierd for centuries. Then they met again

2. Then for the next hundred years, they meet again AND Macaque thinks Y/n will come back to him but nahh "Do you really think I the great Witch of Abomination? Think again" Then shoves the neckless she gave him when they were young adults.

3. In the Lego Monkie kid universe ( It's how I designed Macaque I mean people say drawing a character 'in my style' so yee) AS it is written on small papers what happens in different universes. So in the Lego Monkie kid universe Y/n just kicks him away because she has a job to do and doesn't want anyone to mess it up. While in my universe Y/n tries to kill him. Macaque has to die again. But he can't stop falling in love even more while Y/n fell out of love. She moved on and already has 3 kids. well, 2 are Macaques and y/ns while her youngest is fully human but has powers like Discord from mlp.

4. Okey so the woman that is standing next to Monkey Y/n is me as a Celestial guard or something. Monkey y/n needed help for something so she went for some help. Then I the Celstal guard would gladly helped.

5. I made myself as a Spider-woman. But like it says on icecream Chopstick. A mutated. This is very short so like there was a spider that had a mutated venom on her fat bunda. How I was bit well....I was filling my water bottle and I didn't see a spider inside so I drank it and bam I was kicked out of my home and became a vigilant Spider-woman, I have 16 eyes, I can spill my venom when I bit someone and forgot my toxic family, my school. my old life..... And 1 year later a Spider sociality came to invite me but I refused cuz.. Why should I mean they have a thousand spider people on it why do they need another one???? I refused multiple times.. heck they even tried to force me but I made it again very clear I will not join. So they stopped bugging me until an Indian Spider-man give me some weird tech bracelet and said to keep it if I in case need their help. Then this boy named Miles Morales came into your universe and said this was whole a misunderstanding that he came from the wrong universe and that he needs to go back to his universe to save his dad but he is being chased by multiple spider-people who is leading them is Miguel O'hara. Ahh that annoying bitchy grumpy man with a problem temperature. Then he explained that he is also being chased by a powler-version of himself. And I explain powler-version of himself is also the enemy I'm trying to put him in jail and also my sister's best friend. He was shocked. But I had no time to explain so I told him to stay at my place. I MADE HIM A BUREK S MESOM AND HE LOVED IT. Then he said that he will never be able to save his dad the one I wrote on a pic was a mistake. So i told him to not worry about them.

6. This is like a small doodle of me, Lilith from Hazbin Hotel, and Monkey witch y/n who sleeps naked alone. The reason why she sleeps naked it's because it itchy for her to sleep with pj's and sweets a lot which causes the bed to get wet and she stinks a lot and hates to take a shower twice a day. She only does it alone- when Y/n started to have a relationship with Macaque she was embarrassed to ask Macaque if she could sleep with no clothes on nothing sexual it is normal for monkeys to be naked which of course Macaque notices that and tells her that it won't bother him after all a lot of tribe monkeys sleep naked or be naked. It is actually common for monkeys to be naked :)

7. This is actually funny to me. I made an Eagle Y/n a very long ago I wanted to draw more of her with Golden Winged Peng From Lego Monkey Kid she is also a sister figure of a Macaque. I was listening to 'Ayesha Erotica - 9 am in Calabasas where there is a scenario where he talks about starting to fall in love with Eagle Y/n and yadadada not gonna make it longer and you guys probably that one trend on TikTok lalalalala ˛& okokokokok, yeah they are both okokokokok. Don't ask me why It's my opinion cuz they both are listening to each other.

And here is a little note for everyone to see better. I was even going to make Y/n shorter before I searched about eagles' height. What I was mostly curious about is the height and the types of eagles are called. Y/n is a golden eagle. MEANING he can sit on her lap whenever he can I even searched about Peng's origin in Buddhism. "To me, Stevie has always had the air of someone who lacks a real social life, and she is incurably wrapped up in her own version of her history and how she perceives that people see her.

She will bash away at the piano with all the skill, grace and rhythm of a well fed monkey, but appears to believe she’s playing like Christine. She talks about her ‘art’ as if it has never occurred to anyone else to pick up a pencil and draw. And she talks about the personal sacrifices she’s made as if she’s done the world a massive favour like Jesus or Aslan, and says it with a fervour that kind of seems like she’s still trying to convince herself as well as everybody else. And still talking about Lindsey and speculating about their relationship with a depth that often crosses the line of disrespect and bad taste. They broke up forty-five years ago and he’s happily married with children.

I think the word I’m skirting around is ‘delusion’. Stevie’s self importance is something that has been there throughout her entire career, and it has always coloured her music, almost like a trademark. In her songs, like all her well trodden anecdotes, she is always the victim, the mediator or the hero, or various combinations of the three. But Lindsey’s right, she is lonely, and it’s obvious. Her extreme lack of self awareness is a textbook sign of a lack of meaningful interactions with people. Perhaps her arrogance has pushed people away, but she has clearly surrounded herself with colleagues and acquaintances who are not correcting her, and that has made things even worse.

I have no doubt that she genuinely believes this narrative web she has woven around herself, partly because there is no one to tell her otherwise, and partly because it is all she has. I absolutely believe that she did have Lindsey fired, but I think for her it was just a hugely misguided way of shaking up the tired-ass Lindsey/Stevie narrative. I think she figured there’d be a reunion at some point and it would all be another string-laden chapter in this legendary love story she thinks exists. But she did not consider that this is his career too, and he had (and has) every right to be angry. I think the lack of meaningful relationships in her life has created a mindset where the people who are in her life are nothing more than dispensable extras in the Stevie story, characters for her songs, to be dismissed and sent for as she sees fit.

I’m so happy he’s spoken out and I hope people listen. More than that, I hope she listens. I just hope 73 isn’t too old to wake up and, basically, get a life.

Would you say that rumble and savage are hard to draw? I was trying to come up with my own distinct design for them but boy is it complicated

i think since theyre semi non canon, youve got to feel out a design that suits your own style of drawing.

it did take me a page of doodles to get some designs i liked down when i made them for the dt au, although its difficult to make them distinct tbh since theyre mostly just black and red. i did it with clothing and eye color, but you could easily have them with longer or shorter hair, different clothing types, face patters, or switch round their colorscheme to include other colors. (they were just littl blobs when me and aki designed them for the honeymoon au)

i think some solid advice is to always settle on a design you actually like drawing, or else youll make yourself hate every time you try to draw em. and possibly go stare at some different types of monkey and tamarin species if you havent already gor some inspo

I listen to a lot of different kind of music. My fav genres is probably house/electronic/dance (i really love kygo, avicii and calvin harris) and pop (little mix, taylor swift, selena gomez, harry styles and ariana grande)

I really like music from the 70's and 80's so I listen to that alot.

Last year i began to listen to "milo greene" so now I kinda love indie pop, and try to listen to difrent indie artist. But the music i have been listening to the most for the past couple of months is rock (artic monkeys and the Neighbourhood)

So yeah I listen to a lot of different genres, it just depends on what mood im in.

Oh, i love songs from those decades, they are my karaoke go-to. And i have a "millennial playlist" with songs from the 90s that start with tubthumping and mmmbop lol

you know what, ive always loved Milo Greene's "Afraid of everything" (acoustic version) even before i noticed lizzie and found out her husband is part of the band. Now when i listen to this song, i imagine robbie writing the line "i could barely breathe at the sound of your voice, i could never run that fast" (assuming he wrote it lol)

Ive listened to a couple of songs from artic monkeys and the neighborhood, i remember drawing a portrait of alex turner with a ballpoint pen lol

In the TMNT universe, I have many different AUs.

These three AUs relate to TMNT 2012 and each of them has its own small, maybe with plot holes, but history.

In the sketch version, here are three Leo designs: One of four (OFF), Atrophy and Parallel.

I want to note that in these three universes my luggage from different fictions does not end,as well as in these three worlds different time intervals from the events of the series.

(And another little note to my city, my style of drawing turtles jumps a lot and I still haven’t decided on it)

One of four

Briefly: events in this universe take place after the death of the Leo brothers, he remains the only turtle and grows up with a weight of guilt on his shoulders. Sensei was with him for a while, but he died after everything that happened. Many years have passed since the death of the brothers ( to be exact, around 10 when they died, he was 16). He has become violent and almost unemotional, the only people he interacts with are April and Casey. April became more skillful in her own magical powers, and also changed her character after all, Casey seemed to have not changed in character, but he also became cruel, and also lost his hand and relatives.

Atrophy

Briefly: Leo is captured after one skirmish and spends a certain amount of time there, after which, when he is rescued, it turns out that Leo cannot show emotions in any normal way. His face is in a constant neutral position, Leo himself, even inside himself, hardly feels something. He tries to learn to be more emotional again, but it's all extremely difficult. Even the moments when he can smile visibly or bring back the sparkle in his own eyes are a big win. Leo has also become more violent, he can kill anyone who tries to harm him or his loved ones. The guys have changed too.

Raph is indifferent to Leo's negative actions, he also did not care about other people's lives, he has become the right hand and for the most part helps to structure the actions of the team. It's hard enough for him, but he tries to control his actions and feelings. He is afraid of losing his brother again.

Donnie has become more aggressive than ever, sometimes he spends time around the clock with one of the brothers, and sometimes it is not seen or heard for days. He rushes from one extreme to another due to stress, as well as the fact that he cannot do anything for Leo to make him feel better.

Mikey has become a little quieter, he is still energetic, but sometimes he can sit extremely calmly and not utter a word, going somewhere in his thoughts, it still happens due to stress. For the most part, it is Mikey who is engaged in the emotional background of Leo, trying to encourage him to constantly answer certain questions about what he feels for this or that object / memory / person / etc.

Parallel

The simplest in theory ay. It has three endings: good, bad and neutral. The events take place after the 2012 series. The guys get stuffy in New York and decide to arrange a change. The first to leave Mikey's lair, seeking to explore the world and leave his mark. Later, Raph is in a team with mutanils, who do not have a clear plan for where to go, but they are like free birds that can go wherever they look, the last one left Donnie, who least of all wanted to leave, who least of all wanted to leave, but he was extremely interested in visiting other scientific complexes of the world. Only Leo of the Turtles remains in New York. The events take place in the future after all, where Leo Sensei has 4 children. Elder Michael, son of April and Casey (17 years old), pseudo-twins Ti the tigress and Wukong the monkey (16) and the younger lizard Kori(15).

Leo raised the children on his own, Michael came to him by chance and the desire of his own parents, because of this, sometimes Casey is jealous that his own child is closer to Leo than to him. Leo rescued the twins from a freak circus, where children were forced to perform for the amusement of mutants and humans, and Kori Leo found one in another part of the city, abandoned and aggressive towards everything (Kori did not tell for a long time why he was so wild, after 10 years, he reveals to Leo that he was a lab rat who escaped but was pursued by a second obedient guinea pig who always treated him with aggression). The name au originates from these children, who are so similar to his own brothers. Michael on Mikey, Kori on himself, Ti on Raf,and Wukong on Donnie.

Endings: The plot goes on the feet, which have a new leader, and Karai was displaced again. 1) Good - Nobody dies, Raf, Donnie and Mikey wedged into history after disturbing messages. 2) Neutral - Leo dies before the guys have time to return, he protected the children. The irony is that Leo dies exactly like Splinter, and the children are going to take revenge like they did in the past. 3) Negative - Leo and his students, including, do not cope and die. The guys were late.

One of four

Кратко: события в данной вселенной происходят после гибели братьев Лео,он остаётся единственной черепахой и растет с грузом вины на плечах. С ним какое-то время был сенсей,но и он погиб после всего произошедшего. С момента гибели братьев прошло много лет(если быть точнее,около 10,когда они погибли,ему было 16). Он стал жестоким и почти безэмоциональным, единственные знакомые с кем он общается это Эйприл и Кейси. Эйприл стала более исскустной в собственным магических силах,а так же изменилась характером после всего, Кейси казалось бы не изменился характером,но он тоже стал жесток,а так же потерял руку и родных.

Atrophy

Кратко:Лео попадает в плен после одной стычки и проводит там определенное количество времени,после чего когда его спасают выясняется,что Лео не может проявляться как-либо нормальным образом эмоции. Его лицо находится в постоянном нейтральном положении,сам Лео даже внутри себя с трудом что-то чувствует. Он пытается научится снова быть более эмоциальным,но всё это крайне сложно. Большой победой является даже моменты,когда он может ели заметно улыбнуться или вернуть в собственные глаза блеск. Лео так же стал более жесток,он может убить кого угодно, кто пытается навредить ему или его близким. Ребята так же изменились.

Раф испытывает равнодушие в негативным поступкам Лео,ему так же стало плевать на чужие жизни,он стал правой рукой и побольшей части помогает структурировать действия команды. Это тяжело достаточно для него,но он старается управлять своими действиями и чувствами. Он боится потерять брата снова.

Донни стал более агрессивным чем когда-либо, порой он проводит круглосуточно время с кем-то из братьев,а порой его не видно и не слышно сутками. Он метается из крайности в крайность из-за стрес��а,а так же из-за того,что не может сделать что-нибудь для Лео,что бы ему стало лучше.

Майки стал чуть более тихим,он всё ещё энергичен,но порой он может крайне спокойно сидеть и непроизнести не слова,уходя куда-то в свои мысли,это всё так же происходит из-за стресса.По большей части именно Майки занимается эмоциальным фоном Лео,пытаясь побудить его постоянно отвечать на те или иные вопросы поводу что он испытывает к тому или иному предмету/воспоминанию/человеку/и т.д.

Parallel

Самая простая в теории ау. Имеет три концовки: хорошая,плохая и нейтральная. События происходят после сериала 2012 года. Ребятам становится душно в Нью-Йорке и они решают устроить перемены. Первым покидает логово Майки,стремясь узнать мир и оставить свой след. Позже Раф в команде с мутанилами,у которых нет четкого плана куда идти,но они как вольные птицы,которые могут пойти куда глаза глядят,последний покинул Донни,который меньше всего хотел уходить,но ему было крайне интересно побывать в других научных комплексах мира. В Нью-Йорке остаётся только Лео из черепах. События происходят в будущем после всего,где Лео Сенсей 4 детей. Старший Майкл,сын Эйприл и Кейси (17 лет),псевдо-близнецы тигрица Ти и обезьяна Укун(16) и младший ящер Кори(15).

Лео воспитывал детей самостоятельно,Майкл попал к нему по воле случая и желанию его же родителей, из-за этого порой Кейси ревнует,что его же ребенок ближе к Лео,чем к нему. Близняшек Лео спас из цирка уродов,где детей заставили выступать на потеху мутантам и людям,а Кори Лео нашел одного в другой части города, брошенного и агрессивного ко всему(Кори не рассказывал долгое время,почему он был таким диким,в последствии Лет в 10,он рассказывает Лео,что он был подопытной крысой в лаборатории,которая сбежала,но была преследуема вторым послушным подопытным,который относился к нему всегда с агрессией). Название ау берет начало с этих детей,которые так похожи на его же братьев. Майкл на Майки,Кори на него самого,Ти на Рафа,а Укун на Донни.

Концовки: Завязка идет на футах,у которых новый лидер,а Карай сместили вновь. 1)Хорошая - Никто не погибает,Раф,Донни и Майки вклиниваются в историю после тревожных сообщений. 2) Нейтральная - Лео погибает раньше чем ребята успели вернуться,он защитил детей. Ирония в том,что Лео погибает в точности как и Сплинтер,а дети собираются мстить как и они в прошлом. 3)Негативная - Лео и у его ученики в том числе не справляются и погибают. Ребята опоздали окончательно.

The two women were measuring each other down, obvious dislike toward each other visible in their eyes. Despite the two women being quite similar in mannerisms, likes, and dislikes, the small differences were the ones that had caused the sparkle of annoyance between them. What had been at first just small, almost nonexistent things, had expanded into ridiculous measures, causing finally the upcoming confrontation. Some people had already seen the signs in the air for a long time, so in a way, this was a relief. But as other people were witnessing this argument that started at first extremely coolly, they soon realized their mistake upon hoping this argument would come and thus clear the air: it was becoming really quickly very ugly.

I wanted to try out a one-color style, where you basically draw a character and use only one color...I think those are usually really interesting but also describe some strong emotions. Thus came this picture.

My character Olivia and Olivier are quite similar, yet because of that they also clash quite easily. (Yet they secretly respect each other lot.) I only actually realized this when I did RP with my friend, so this wasn't at all planned. 😅 It made me think what would happen if the two would meet face-to-face and somehow I and my friend did go through it, yet I still believe there would be alternative possibilities...but in the end, it would come to that they would somehow end up into Briggs for bear hunting while Olivia would complain about the cold (she doesn't like cold) and Olivier would tell her to suck it up, which would somehow result to taking whole Central by the blast. I don't know...I can totally see them conquering things while having heated arguments, yet still telling others to 'shut up! Don't intervene!' ...I'm kind of feeling bad for other people who would try to stop their argument...kind of.

Monkey King 2009 Episode 12

Jade Rabbit is the funniest character in this whole show. I will accept argument but you will not win.

The way she just straight tosses Ginseng Fruit once she's done with them, yes, but primarily I am talking about her faces. The look after she casually takes Ginseng Fruit prisoner? Absolute gold. Love it. Also the way she might soften a little but still gives zero ground whatsoever. Oh, you were gathering food for a starving refugee population? How noble! You're still wrong and should feel bad, but in light of this new information you've earned five seconds to grovel for forgiveness.

I love her.

Ginseng Fruit's flair for storytelling makes a comeback and I am here for it. Child was dramatizing for their life so hard they needed a whole other nap after that, and honestly? They earned it. Even made sure to throw in that audience participation. Ginseng Fruit is aiming for pro.

Anyway, back to the program. They're drawing their peaches differently! Huh. Did someone complain about the old style? I never really thought 'peach' when I looked at them, sure, but these new ones are like. Well, they certainly look more like peaches! To be fair! But they're almost so realistic it actually circles back around to looking super weird and sort of off-putting? It might be the coloring not really matching the coloring of anything else. I don't know, maybe they'll grow on me.

Another episode lightly touching on Stone Monkey's flaws and it was really good, actually. Unlike last time, these are less "flaws" that are mostly just products of him trying to survive his environment and more things that make me think, "Oh, yeah, okay. That actually is something he should work on."

The primary ones seem to be 1) a return of his obliviousness toward others' feelings and 2) impulsivity with 3) a dash of 'I'll just do everything by myself'.

Which sort of gets into the Six Ears Situation. Which I thought was really well done this episode. I really like how they're taking care to show why Six Ears - though still definitely going down a concerning path - might be feeling these things and give actual reasons for his growing distance from Stone Monkey. I think the primary example was in the food foraging mission.

Like, nearly from the word go, Stone Monkey doesn't fully grasp the gravity of the situation. This is frustrating for both of them. Stone Monkey, because he doesn't understand why Six Ears is acting so different, and Six Ears, because he feels he can't rely on Stone Monkey, forcing him to go on even higher alert and winding him up that much tighter.

And this is because Six Ears does understand the gravity of the situation. They are in enemy territory and Six Ears is tense. He's a far cry from the kid who was cheerfully helping Stone Monkey fix the peach stores just a couple episodes ago. He wants to get the mission done, get it done right, and go home. For probably the first time since they met, Six Ears doesn't want to play Stone Monkey's games, and Stone Monkey doesn't understand why.

And, honestly, Six Ears is right, is the thing. The peaches? Peaches ripen even off the tree. They're perfectly edible (if not very pleasant) even when they're still very green, so peaches that are just a little green are definitely not that bad. They won't taste as good as a peach left on a tree to fully ripen, but they'll do the job. Six Ears grabbing every peach in range as quickly as possible is absolutely the right thing to do when they need to get in and out quickly, and have so many mouths to feed on top of a need to pad out their stores (specifically so what happens to them later in the episode (they end up trapped and starving in a siege) doesn't happen). Stone Monkey wants to help and do right by the monkeys and give them something nice, but his priorities are off. He doesn't have a sense of urgency and he's not really thinking long-term. He's also not really willing to listen when Six Ears explains. This is a very realistic form of miscommunication and mutual frustration and I love how they wrote it and included it.

I also love Old Monkey King's delight at Jade Rabbit bullying Stone Monkey into teamwork. Man was tickled.

And then later when Stone Monkey throws himself out of the cave to "lead them away", therefore immediately giving away their entire position even though the Demon King was still unsure, preventing them from using that time to better prepare themselves? Even Old Monkey King shouted after him to stop that shit. You know how you have that super laid back guy who is basically never phased by anything and then suddenly they decide to put their foot down and they use that specific voice at three times their normal volume and only a quarter their usual octave and everyone in the vicinity abruptly morph into wide-eyed scolded children no matter their age?

Right, so I have no idea how Stone Monkey didn't shrivel up on the spot. A true superpower.

I gotta say I love Stone Monkey's impulsivity. Any version of a young Sun Wukong just feels so incomplete without it. In this show it's also generally always worked out for him in the past too, so I think this is the first time he's actually messed something up and not been immediately able to fix it? Love that for his character. Sun Wukong should be so competent and capable that he outpaces his development of caution and a true sense for consequences.

And, oh, so now the monkey troops are able to make a stand when their backs are to a wall, huh? No one out here calling for an immediate retreat? Is that so?

Say what you will though, the monkeys continue the trend of a better second showing over the first. They believe in a culture of constant improvement! Old Monkey King is not playing around, either. He hasn't thrown down this hard since Episode 4.

And like Ginseng Fruit's flair for storytelling, Demon King's theater hobby has popped its head back up. He was thrilled to finally be able to use that line. Do you think he's taken the time to mentally sort the monkeys into these opera roles? Who are the painted characters and who gets which face color, buddy? Old Monkey King get his own special category? That's so precious. No, no, don't be shy. I want to hear all your meta.

(But also, show, are you telling me that Iron-Backed Gray Wolf can run sideways on vertical cliff faces but can't balance on a barely shaking branch? Guy, what are you doing.)

Honestly though, this whole battle scene is tense in exactly the right way. Loved it.

*bops Jade Rabbit gently* Stop meta-gaming.

Listen, if Jade Rabbit's going to be accusing anyone of "wanting the acclaim" based solely off their actions, Stone Monkey literally gave away their entire position by deciding all on his own to take on an entire army single-handedly, and prefaced this by solemnly-but-resolutely declaring to the king that he was going alone to "lead them away" despite literally everyone saying, "Wait, don't do that."

He wasn't doing it for praise, but you can't say a case couldn't be made that he was glory hounding. And I'm just saying that if anyone feels the need to accuse anyone else of fishing for praise, Six Ears should probably not be the first name that comes to mind. Just. Based on what little has been seen by a certain person's own two eyes. Get out of the script, Jade Rabbit.

(That is definitely a motivating factor in Six Ears's decision, yes, but the point is how does Jade Rabbit have any reason to know that? She doesn't. *bangs gavel* case closed defendant found guilty of meta-knowledge)

That said, it was sort of a struggle figuring out Six Ears's motivations here. I'd call his plan sort of a contrived event to force the plot along, but I actually think it does make sense. I'm about to ramble a lot, bear with me.

Okay, so Six Ears deciding to quietly stage a surprise attack on the enemy camp at night without input from Old Monkey King or anyone else...doesn't actually fit his character, in most circumstances? At least in my opinion? Since Episode 1, Six Ears has always made sure to declare his intentions/seek permission from at least Old Monkey King before taking on a task, as is typically the proper way to do these things. Just taking off on his own isn't really his MO - that's Stone Monkey's thing. We should also consider even just the beginning of the episode, where he was definitely taking his enemies seriously and trying to handle the whole mission in as efficient and safe a manner as possible, and also being the first to insist to Stone Monkey that he needs to work together with someone. Six Ears abruptly deciding to underestimate them and also go entirely rogue from any authority figure is just...odd.

Unless he doesn't think Stone Monkey was punished for his earlier stunt of throwing himself out of the waterfall in front of the whole Demon King army and trying to take them on single-handedly. (Are you still with me? I swear I'm getting to the point.)

This isn't quite correct. Stone Monkey was sort of being punished. Or at least that's how I took it. Old Monkey King's giving him the same unimpressed and doubtful looks he tends to give the four generals. He's not humoring him or favoring him with any extra patience when he defends Six Ears's plan. Stone Monkey takes it like a champ and convinces him anyway, sure, but only after Old Monkey King listens long enough to decide that Stone Monkey learned something beneficial from his mistake after all, and he's mostly a cold wall until he does. Even when he voices approval, it's not exactly warm. He's far and away from the indulgent figure we usually see around the kids. Stone Monkey is in trouble.

But I'm not sure Six Ears would have seen it that way. In his head, it might look like Stone Monkey's recklessness and impulsivity is what they all want. If he's barely gotten a slap on the wrist for a mistake that big, that's almost approval, isn't it?

So! Six Ears's plan makes sense to me if he's trying to be Stone Monkey. It doesn't sit naturally with him, but he's desperate and scared (see all of last episode) and has spent a good chunk of his life chasing Old Monkey King's approval. I can see him trying, even if he knows it's a bad idea. Six Ears's caution and prudence, after all, hasn't benefited him in a single way he actually cares about - it hasn't kept him safe from the Demon King's army and it hasn't kept him in Old Monkey King's esteem (in his view). If he's deliberately ignoring the voice in his head listing why this can't work and he needs to run it by Old Monkey King right now - all the things he would probably want to say to Stone Monkey, if Stone Monkey had tried anything like this - well, Stone Monkey's been just fine without that voice, hasn't he? And so Six Ears buries it. (I actually think that dramatic hesitation when he's being questioned by the guards is just him internally screaming when he realized he'd have to say his dumb plan out loud. RIP kid, make better choices.)

(He still brought people along, though. No amount of pretending to be Stone Monkey will be able to remove Six Ears's better judgement entirely. He's just gotten started. Give him a bit. He needs to work his way up to Stone Monkey's level. Baby steps.)

Also I agree with Stone Monkey that it's not a bad plan, exactly. It's the way Six Ears is trying to execute it that's wrong, not the plan itself. He's right that they need to break the siege as quickly as possible - they have no other options. They have no food and it's not even a day in, and the longer they wait the weaker they'll get. Even doing nothing, it wouldn't be a week before the Demon King's army could just walk right in with no resistance. A well-targeted, hard-hitting attack when they're most likely to be disorganized and slowest to respond is ideal considering their comparatively weaker fighting force. It's a good plan, actually.

The primary issue is that it's severely under-resourced and lacks any degree of cohesion with the larger troop. Old Monkey King, properly alerted to the plan, could have forces on standby in case something goes wrong and they need to provide an escape route, mount a defense of the entryway, or an opportunity to break the Demon King's army otherwise presents itself. They could make sure there are no conflicting operations. Old Monkey King wouldn't suddenly be absent three guards on the main entrance. I mean, hey, we don't even know if those three guys are good for a stealth mission. They could put together an actual team, maybe.

*claps hands* COMMUNICATION COMMUNICATION COMMUNICATION

(Moment of peace for Old Monkey King, having just finished hammering this lesson home in one kid and suddenly having the other immediately forget all his good sense and go sneaking off to single-handedly fight an enemy army.)

(The moment you realize these kids have one rational brain cell between them and by giving it to Stone Monkey he may have forcibly evicted it from Six Ears. Like magnets. They cannot both possess impulse control at the same time.)

(Really funny the whole 'kid sneaks off to single-handedly fight an army' thing happened twice in one day though. Literally can't turn your back on them for a single second, huh?)

clothing tests

trying to design some elf clothes. in general, i need to figure out what the clothing styles are like for all my people species, including between their different cultures when relevant. obviously there will be similarities when multiple people species live in one area, because they'll pick up on stuff from each other and engage in trade. but I still want there to be some distinctions, like orc clothing being 90% hide and leather while gnomish clothing involves more woven fabric, dwarf clothes having a lot of beaded embroidery, etc.

but for now, here's my oc Kouto showing off a few of my ideas.

my elves are mainly arboreal, which also means a majority of their resources are going to come from trees and other nearby plants, as well as any animals that live in the forests. As a result, a lot of their common clothes will be made with tree bark and other plant fibers, left in their natural colors or dyed with plant materials. Hide, leather, and bone, as well as feathers, would also be fairly common clothing materials.

Of course, they would engage in trade with other people to obtain things like metal jewelry, wool cloth, and dyes from other parts of the world. Their formal clothing would also be very fancy indeed, because elves live for centuries and have a lot of time to really invest in getting formal clothes with intricate weaving and embroidery and brilliant colors. I'm just no good at drawing clothes that look that fancy, so I stuck to simple outfits. these ones would not necessarily all originate from the same culture, I'm still working out details on the cultures in the main country the story is set in.

Media and techniques

Evaluative section on the media and techniques that were used and explored in your project. What did you learn? How did your processes help this? How did these techniques meet your proposal?

In this project I was looking at many reference images for different characters and positions. Learning how to draw somewhat of a monkey was the first major obstacle that I had to overcome. I sat for a few hours looking at pictures of different monkeys and drawing the shape of the head and slowly developed from there. For the animation part of the project I had to look up references for positions or use my own body as a reference for some motions. I also thought in a step by step way which assisted well, thinking of what needs to happen to cause another thing to happen in some cases, or what are the most important features of this or that. I learned how to draw in a different style and what process I should follow to stay consistent with the style. Another thing that I learned and am excited to pursue a bit further is the drawing of different materials. It was very fun seeing the gold material I was drawing come together. These helped meet my proposal as I was able to use these techniques to create all of the different assets for the game.

What did you do to meet the Team and story aspect of the brief? How was working in team / collaboratively? Do you think it was the right choice?

Working in a team allowed more progress to be made in a short time although it had some troubles in communication. I would not be opposed to the idea of working in a team on a future project, it was very fun to generate ideas with different people about a project and develop it with them. I was able to get feedback instantly when I needed it as well. As for the problems in communication, I just continued to work on what I had been assigned previously and then tried to develop some more ideas independently until I was needed, this allowed me to continue making progress through these times. When I had problems in animating or starting a character design, I found that looking at references was very beneficial to me. This was something that I refrained from doing in the past but have learned to utilise more as of recently. I was under a bit of a time crunch after being sick and having to take some time off but I was able to make the necessary adjustments to make a good enough final product by cutting unnecessary content.

Outcome

Evaluative section on the final product. Did you meet your expectations? Does your outcome fulfil the project that you set and meet your FMP brief?

For the overall project, I feel pretty happy. I was very pleased with a few of the animations I made because they were smoother and higher quality than anything I had made before in my very limited animating experience. The amount that I was able to finish was not as much as I had expected, so I feel like I can reduce it to a few factors: Communication, Illness and Access to Equipment. For the communication part, at times it was unclear what I needed to make for the game or what part I was handling as time went on. This made the speed of production a bit slower due to trying to figure out what was needed. Secondly, I missed a few days because of illness. In a project of this length, a few days means a lot. I couldn't work for a few days and then for a while after that it was just difficult to think clearly and work effectively but I was able to manage. The final part, access to equipment, is for the first few weeks I was not able to use my own equipment as I could not bring it into the college, after I was able to use the equipment more however, my workspeed had increased substantially.

There were good and bad aspects of this project. I enjoyed the teamwork part of it, having more ideas put to the table and different views on developing them was always helpful. The feedback I had access to at any time was also very handy. But if I were to do this again, I would be sure to iron out the roles of each person at the start and after a set time frame so that there would be designated work and a timeframe to be held accountable to. For improving my project, I would need to look into animation a bit more and environments. The environments were the only thing that I was not very pleased with, I feel like they were too rushed and lacked character, same with the bases too. A repeat of these things would call me to think of better designs and spend more time adding some details. However, the animation side of the project went pretty well, I was happy with the speed I could make them and how they turned out. They can be improved by using layers smarter, allowing me to spend less time on each frame and make each frame look better too. I will use what I learned from all of this animating and character design in the next project if I decide to pursue an animated type of project. For the blog work, I feel like I should be a bit more disciplined with it, as documenting the work better will allow me to look back at how I made things easier but would also improve the grade of the work. Next project I am going to write down every significant part of my process.

There is more interaction with AI drawing in today's class. We try to make ourselves become AI to draw and try to draw images in its way. We also try to add the elements in the pictures generated by AI into our original paintings to create a new picture.

With these attempts, my opinion on AI drawing has gradually become clear. I think AI drawing is really a good tool for me to get inspiration (for example, when I want to draw the interior space of a bakery in this project but I don't know how to draw it, I can input the keywords to AI and ask it to generate some photos for me for reference). Or when you want to draw the front of a monkey but can't find the reference picture, you can also directly ask the AI drawing to generate the picture for your reference. Moreover, the images generated by AI for the same word are very different every time, and there are many possibilities. This also gives me more ideas to develop when creating images.

But when you have a clear picture in your mind and want AI to help you draw the picture in your mind through the description of this picture, the generated picture is often unsatisfactory or even irrelevant to the picture in your mind. Even though you have modified the sentences entered into AI countless times, the generated images are still disappointing. It is obvious that AI is not able to draw pictures like a real illustrator. AI's paintings always lack logic and have strange feelings, and there is no change in thinking when AI paints. When an illustrator creates illustrations, his thoughts and emotions are constantly changing, and this change gives the soul to this painting. Different colors, compositions and contents allow the audience to receive much additional information besides the content of the picture, such as emotion. These are things AI can't do.

In addition, AI will not consider the issue of copyright or whether the content of this image is suitable for generating a new image. When we look up the reference images, we will filter whether the color and style of the images are worth learning and what aspects are worth learning. It is not like AI to find a picture with the same description and use it directly to synthesize.

This is the hybrid outcome, which is indeed richer in color and content than the original image and has a better sense of technology. I like the creation of collages of pictures with great differences in style.
