Paley Hair

I've been working on this one for a while but i've also been extremely busy with my day job so yesterday i sat on my computer and forced myself to finish a couple of my WIP's . This hair is inspired by Babe Paley, the 60's NY socialite that American Writer Truman Capote worshiped and described as "Pure Perfection" (Yes, i saw FEUD: Capote vs The Swans... It was ok)

I can absolutely see Babe dining at La Côte Basque with her HUGE hair siping cocktails with her ladies who lunch every Tuesday Afternoon. Now you can put this on your snobby country club ladies and spend whole hairspray cans on them while doing so.

the 1960s were also known as the swingin' sixties, and that name could not be more appropriate. while some other decades had moved towards comfort, the 1960's truly embraced it. some of the youth simply threw on a tunic and stepped into some pants and walked out the door! the popularity of television broadcasted different styles and trends across the country and the world. new materials like acrylics and polyesters were cheap to produce and to buy, and made fashion more accessible than it ever had been. the swingin' sixties brought the youth miniskirts, striped sweaters, the boxy "mod" look, and the bright, fun makeup associated with famous artists like twiggy. some older women tended towards the skirt + suit jacket combination worn by first lady jackie kennedy, but the comfort of the youth was appealing to all ages. beatnik fashion was also popular, with trim black trousers and dark sweaters. in 1964, hairspray was the most popular beauty product on the market – and it showed in the elaborate updos of the era. as the decade drew to a close, the "hippie" style was a popular look among the youth, with loose fitting tops and baggy pants, as well as maxi skirts. many of the hippies incorporated crafts into their fashion, with patchwork and beadings becoming popular.

this is only a very brief summary – the trends and influences of the 1960s are vast and complex, just as the 1960s themselves were. the social revolutions mirrored the revolutions in fashion, and i could write essays about it. but i am tired and i moved in today.

1960s Daisy Collection - BGC

I was scrolling through my Pinterest feed and came across a Sears catalog page from 1968. The bright pink outfits with daisy appliques caught my eye and reminded me of a Melody dress. Needless to say, these items jumped high up on my to-do list.

Everything is in a selection from @needleworkreve's Primary palette. All outfits are full body. The blouse overlay can be found under right wrist.

🇬🇧 SWINGING SIXTIES

"Groovy, mod, colorful." (This song was legit stuck in my head the entire time I was creating these models.)

Unexpectedly, a 1960's-inspired lookbook! This one was something of a passion project. ( ‾́ ◡ ‾́ )

My main inspiration being this wonderful piece of artwork! You can see that for the "Cosmo-Corps Style" and "Psychedelic" outfits I had to get creative. ( ╥ω╥ )

For the Cosmo-Corps look I took inspo from this photo instead of following the artwork. (And yes I know the Psychedelic Sim sticks out like a sore thumb but shhh she's beautiful, let her have her anachronistic fun in the 60's.) As per usual, CC used on each look will be listed down below!

Lidia's 1965 Apartment- The Office (WIP)

Something cool that I learned about while researching old brick apartment buildings in the Chicago area, is that you often find a small, exposed brick room in them, usually one that leads out to a balcony, fire escape or other outdoor space. I saw a few with fun shag carpets from the 60-70's and I thought it looked nice. I had extra space in Lidia's apartment, so I decided make her a nice office space in a room of that style, fit for a budding journalist.

Very pleased with how it's turning out so far. Might go back and add more clutter to the floor though, everything is still too clean and flat looking for my liking, but otherwise, I've really been digging these colors and textures lately. I love making builds with some age to them, they are so fun.

Just like the Paley Hair this one is inspired by another of Truman Capote's Swans Lee Radziwill

I had so much fun creating my recent Scooby Doo magazine covers I was dying to convert more iconic characters. Next on the list was the Powerpuff Girls, who I thought - thanks to their bold colour palette, fun personalities and adorable Mary Janes - perfectly translated to 1960s teen fashion models. Another milestone has been reached in a short time! 700 followers?! Heartfelt thanks to those who have chosen to follow this blog.
