Heed my words, My will creates your body, And your sword creates my destiny. If you heed the Grail's call, and obey my will and reason, then answer my summoning! I hereby swear: That I shall be all the good in the world, That I shall defeat all evil in the world! Then let thine eyes be clouded, with the fog of turmoil and chaos, Thou, who art trapped in a cage of madness, And I, the summoner, who holds thy chains! Seventh heaven clad, and the great words of power, Come forth from the circle of bindings, Guardian of the Scales!
Thank you for participating in the First Tumblr Holy Grail War!

"I participated in an anomalous Holy Grail War and I accidentally fell in love with the enemy's servant, but it turns out I ended up marrying him in the future!?" is such a corny isekai LN title, but also the best way to summarize this whole ordeal LOL

If you're afraid to lose, you shouldn't be playing a game. You need to be willing to take risks to win and willing to lose if things don't go your way. If you're so afraid of losing that you don't do anything in the game, then why are you here??

once upon a timeline
okay so i've been obsessed with ouat recently with my rewatch and i was looking into Henry's weird ass family tree and oh my god i need to put this out there because why.
for starters i've only included big plot points or villains and main characters etc so none of the side plots but also i've realised how weird some of the age gaps are.
oh yeah also ouat likes to fuck with their timelines and historical context so i have gone with the basic dates that make sense based on what the characters in the show actually say.
the dates are what they would be in the real world not in ouat logic.
pre-main timeline
Ancient Greece - zeus and hades happen (season 6)
ancient greece but later - orpheus and Euridice and pandora's box happen
between 400-500AD - the Holy Grail and Merlin and Nimue
1650's-1660's - Mother Gothel leaves the new land without magic
1770- Malcolm is Born
1804- Rumplestiltskin is born, Malcolm is 34
1808- Rumple is abandoned, Peter Pan becomes a fae trickster tumblr meme
1845- Baelfire is born, Rumple is 41
1859- Bae arrives in england, Rumple is 55
1947- Zelena is born and abandoned
1948- Cora and Rumple have their weird affair
1949- Regina is born
1955- Snow White is born
1973- Regina sends the huntsman after snow, Snow is 18, Regina is 24
23/3/1977 - Neal (Bae) chooses this as his fake birthday
22/10/1983 - Emma is born, the curse is cast
1991 - Neal escapes neverland and comes back to the land without magic
15/8/2001 - Henry is born, Emma is 18, Neal Cassidy is 24
22/10/2011 - Emma arrives in Storybrooke
13/5/2012 - The curse is broken.
so some of the dates are based on when episodes aired and things such as when the curse breaks and when emma arrives in storybrooke. other dates are based on easter eggs in the show like Neal's birthday. so i realised that Neal had to have landed back in the real world in 1991 because he was 14 when he got to neverland and obviously didn't age so working backwards those dates make sense.
however... emma was 17 when she got pregnant with henry and at best Neal is 24 but at worst he's 156 years old! i mean what the fuck. and he has to be that old because he tells Emma that technically "I should be a couple hundred by now" (2,15). so at the oldest he can be with Neal's Once upon a time maths education the earliest he can be born is 1845 because big ben isn't built until 1859 which is the absolute earliest that he can be in old england.
the rest of the dates i managed from working backwards from when the curse was broken and cast and from small things the characters say. In the first episode of season 2, Emma says that her and Mary Margaret were the same age which means that the 10 year war she has with regina that ended with the curse started when she was 18.
so what i've found from this is that Henry's family tree back to his paternal great grandad literally spans hundreds of years. the average life span for these fuckers is about 100. basically they're a family of elves and you can't convince me otherwise.

Doing a poll tournament at @mordred-custody-battle-royale
It's kind of a 6th holy grail war taking place on a Maury Povich set over who would be the best or funniest or whatever choice for raising best son.
The banner was thrown together on a mobile image editor of ok-ish quality.
It's pretty loose, fun, informal, and stupid, but most importantly, stupid and fun.
Stop by if you're confident in your ability to not be Transphobic about the bettermyths-esque Nasu takes on history.

My anon name is 🦅🦁 or 🦁🦅
For those who stumble upon my account... Hello and how are ya? This is my very first time using Tumblr! You can refer to me as Yume, Dreamy, Floof, JJ, Roving, Gryph or whatever nickname you wanna give me. I'm a genuinely curious individual who sometimes gets obsessed with stuff that I eventually want to get engaged with or stuff that I have no intention of trying out, but I'm very fascinated by it. I'm also just a silly, creative Canadian who's trying to get the most out of life.
My general pronouns are she/her, but I genuinely don't mind you referring to me as they/them and he/him. I will not specify my age publicly due to privacy reasons. If you want to know, just shoot me a DM/message.
Some of my hobbies include writing, drawing, listening to music, reading novels and manga, watching YouTube, occasionally watching movies, TV shows or anime, and baking once in a blue moon. For those wondering what kind of art I do, I've primarily been doing a lot of digital artwork as of now. However, I have been using traditional mediums (acrylic paint, markers, coloured pencils, and regular ol' pencils) for many years now. You can find most of my current artworks that I have shared on my Instagram account (@cypriathus). Before we move on with other stuff about me, some of my interests include psychology, sociology, criminology, law, biology, outer space, mythology, folklore, legends, religion, history, internet mysteries, and lost media.

Greetings, prospective Masters.
If you're seeing this message, then you've become a candidate for a spectacular ritual with an even more worthwhile prize.
I am the Overseer of this Ritual, @lapithae, and you will be fighting tooth and nail for something amazing.
What are you fighting for, you ask? What a splendid question.
An omnipotent wish granter, a mystic artifact that was only spoken about in legend. I am, of course, speaking about the legendary Holy Grail.
Of course, this is a war driven by chance. Not purely luck, but your choices as Masters will have a heavy impact on how you win. But do not worry, you won't be fighting yourselves. You'll be summoning Heroic Spirits, or Servants. Do not get too attached to them. They're just familiars, after all.
You'll be sharing Servants, of course. You'll have to pick from several teams. Team Saber, Archer, Lancer, Assassin, Rider, Caster, and Berserker.
The Summoning System here is... shoddy. Catalysts aren't entirely effective, and the incantation is going to need to go through a couple steps before you're presented with your Servant. But have no fear. As I stand as your humble Overseer, I will help you along this process with the Tumblr Poll Summoning System. Or T-POSE.
...Don't think about the acronym too hard.
Simply submit to me which Servants you would like to see in the war, and their Class, and then you and the rest of your fellow Masters will be presented an opportunity to vote on which Servants answer the Grail's call for this illustrious prize. Please, submit them here for them to be considered and counted.
Once the Servants have been summoned (voted on), the rules for this Grail War will be revealed.
Hm? Reveal the rules beforehand? Perhaps I can explain things a little.
However, this won't simply function as a popularity contest. The other observed versions of this ritual (which have all gone INCREDIBLY well, with no complications) each summoned Servant class functions slightly differently. The numbers are important. Close calls may unwittingly turn the tides against you. Remember, this is a world of Magi, and Magi don't live by 'close calls'. Victory must be clear and swift, and small percentages may result in you losing your Servant entirely.
Further details regarding Servant skills will be underneath the cut, though they may change, and be clearer once the rules are solidified.
I'll take prospective Servant submissions until 6PM EST, Monday (2/13), and the Summoning Polls will be open for a week*, as well as more defined rules on the war.
Rejoice, young bloggers. Perhaps your dreams will finally come true.
*(The summoning time has been shortened to a 24-hour poll).
THE SEVEN CLASSES:
SABER-class Servants are solid jacks-of-all-trade picks, and great single-target combatants. When engaging another Servant 1-on-1, they get +3% to their combat poll results.
ARCHER-class Servants are good at distance combat. If they decide to play defensively, and are attacked by another Servant, they get +3% to their combat poll results.
LANCER-class Servants are fast and agile. If they end up in the bottom 2 of a 3-way confrontation, if there’s only a 5% difference in scoring between them and 2nd place, they make it out unscathed.
ASSASSIN-class Servants are best for quiet, one-on-one confrontations. If they pick a Servant that isn’t targeted by anyone else, they get +5% to their combat poll results.
RIDER-classes are competent commanders with great maneuverability. If engaged with 2 Servants, Riders get a +3% to their combat poll results.
CASTER-class Servants are best confined to their mage workshops. If they decide to play defensively, and are attacked by another Servant, they get +3% to their combat poll results.
BERSERKER-class Servants are loose cannons that can’t be recklessly fought head-on or easily managed. If engaged in a fight with another Servant, they get +5% to their final combat poll results, and the attacking Servant gains 2 ‘wounds’ if they lose.
If BERSERKERs are engaged in a fight with 2 Servants, they get +7% to their final combat poll results, but sustain 2 ‘wounds’ if on the bottom, and 1 ‘wound’ if in 2nd place on the poll.
Also as a result of their difficulty to manage, BERSERKER Masters can only pick either the 2nd or 3rd Command Spell options.

Fate/Samurai Remnant
So, I've invested WAY too much time into Fate/Samurai Remnant recently, and I figured I'd make a tumblr post about it because I, frankly, adore this game.
The Fate series does not have a perfect record. I love it for the story, but even I was thinking that Fate/Samurai Remnant would be another blemish. Honestly, that probably was for the best, because it blew my expectations out of the water.
I saw a lot of people complaining that the game would be a Musou/Warriors-like Game. I don't really think that's a fair comparison. Yes, it has Musou aspects, but it plays more like Bayonetta or Okami. Battles are actually fun, and there's bit more strategy than just button mashing (I'll admit, there's still a fair bit of button mashing, but it hasn't impeded my enjoyment of the game.)
This is also one of the few Fate games that actually gets the vibe of a Holy Grail War right. There's alliances, friendships, rivalries, weird sexual tension with historical figures- the whole shebang. The protagonist, Miyamoto Iori, is actually a fairly compelling character who develops quite a bit. Saber is always fun to listen to, and even side characters like Zheng Chenggong (Koxinga) or Takao Dayu get their time to shine.
Overall, if you're new to Fate and want to play a game rather than read a visual novel or watch an anime? This is where you'd start. It's a much better introduction than Fate/Grand Order and feels a lot like a real Holy Grail War. I'd give it an 8 or 9 out of 10, with its main flaws being that some battles feel a bit tedious and that they occasionally lean on references that newcomers wouldn't get (though they're few and far between)

Ethnically, were the Achaeans and Trojans close? I see people portraying them as very similar or very different, now I'm in doubt whether it was one of those cases or whether in fact the answer is somewhere in between (while there would be a lot of people similar to each other, there would be people who are more different from each other)
ooof the analysis needed for this question is longer than what a tumblr answer can do, so allow me to be a bit vague - while hoping you can always do more research on that.
But long story short, the Trojans are supposed to be of a different ethnos than the Achaeans. Because of close geographical proximity, we suspect their differences weren't that big. So I wouldn't say they are "very different", the guys were practically neighbors, compared to the distance with other ethnicities. Surely they had some differences but the Greek Epics cannot tell us of them. The Greeks wrote what they knew, making these foreigners the exact copies of themselves and worshipers of the same pantheon.
You have a better chance of learning about these differences by looking at what ethnicities lived in that area when the war (probably) took place. Last time I read about this, scientists were not sure of the ethnicity of the Trojans but it's most likely they were ancient Anatolians allied with the Hittites.
Perhaps they were Hittites, we don't know that. Some say they were "Luvians". I had to dive into Reddit for this, and that's what I read.
Tumblr media
source
This article and this article gather resources and comments on them. I wouldn't use them as a holy grail of knowledge, but they sum up the research.
See also this post for more of the similarities and differences between the Achaeans and the Trojans.

I love your posts! How do you study and what do you read to know so much?
Yay! I get to recommend my favourite sources!
So for primary sources (first-hand accounts, letters written by people who were involved or connected to a certain event or person) I recommend:
https://founders.archives.gov/ - has lots of transcripts of letters written by or to the founding fathers.
https://www.loc.gov/ - has a wide range of revolutionary war related material like manuscripts, transcripts, maps, books and more made or written by the soldiers of the time.
https://www.masshist.org/ - has online exhibitions featuring maps, accounts of events, letters, artifacts and drawings relating to 18th century Massachusetts, the colony most important when studying the early years of the revolutionary war. I really like their Bunker hill exhibit and their one on the early days of the revolutionary war
https://clements.umich.edu/exhibit/spy-letters-of-the-american-revolution/ - an online exhibition on the Culper Spy Ring and military intelligence from both sides of the war featuring letters that directly affected the war's battles and the outcomes of said battles. It's also got mini biographies, a timeline and lots of anecdotes.
https://avalon.law.yale.edu/subject_menus/amerrev.asp - Just a lot of documents in chronological order starting from a year before the Stamp Act was passed by parliament to the surrender at Yorktown. Just try to ignore the misspelling of the word 'Britain'.
https://www.archives.gov/exhibits - admittedly not a site I'm very well acquainted with however I used it as a source in my really long post about standard Continental army soldier uniforms and it was very pleasant.
https://guides.bpl.org/primarysources/revolutionarywar - I love this one, they have so many resources and if you click on the link and scroll down it'll give you a nice list of places to find information on the five most popular founding fathers and just underneath that you can find lists of information on important political events.
All 6 American Archive volumes by Peter Force - I dream of one day having these books, they're the holy grail for anyone wanting to learn about the revolutionary war. They're filled with correspondence, state papers and debates from the war and I want them BADLY
I will make a separate post for tumblr users that I use as sources sometimes because there's too many of you people and frankly I want to get all of you in without having this post be absurdly long
