short version: i used it on another site before. long version: one time, when i was really bored at school, i doodled some animals and everything felt normal, but then i realized the animal i doodled wasn't a regular animal but a sheep - snail hybrid - a schnaf in german, if you will. a few days later, i decided to make a new account on my first (and up to that point only) fanfic site because after one year, i felt like i needed a new start. but it felt rather temporary - i left the old account after not that long either and i thought i'd stay on the new account even shorter. so i just picked a random name - the animal i came up with a few days before. joke's on me, it became my identity.

yeah, i have a football side blog where i posted pics i took at matches, i have a side blog for a former fandom but i lost interest in it as soon as i created the side blog so... sorry, no new side blogs for fandom, i'm a one blog mess once again ♥ also several shared blogs for projects and stuff

I at times disagree with your social opinions, but honestly everything you have said about feminism and Christianity have helped me so much. Even the times I've been taken aback by what you said, I came back to it and really thought it through. Open minded and fair. I'm not interested in entertaining an image of unproblematicness, especially from other Christians. Jesus was crucified because of the conspiracy led by his own Jewish fellas, not unbelievers ; so just because unbelievers dislike you doesn't mean you're still standing right before God. See how other Christians react to your testimony/apologetics and then you'll see if you follow Jesus' path or not. Christianity has NEVER been about popularity or being "likeable". So yeah, it's okay if you feel isolated and alone anon, I do too - a lot of time. But keep in mind that Jesus had few followers on his last days...every one abandoned Him..... You don't get popular by saying the truth as said in 2 Timothy 4:3. Don't trust popular "Christian bloggers"......

If you followed me until now it only proves you're a very open and considerate person and I really appreciate you're still here <3 I do too follow people that challenge my perspective on things and this is where I learned the most. For example, this is by interacting a lot in radfem that I decided to deepen my biblical study on gender roles and the place of women in the church. The way Christian/trad women dismiss the attack of radfem by simply sassy'ing them back without providing actual biblical rebuttal never sat well with me. I was not going to talk to her about how to react to the poc issues lovestruck has. I want to talk to her about why she hates this blog and find out if it’s something we can improve over time to make it a more welcoming space for her and other people who might have the same issues with us.

On the issue with Mod Wrath and Mod Viv: I’m gonna blankly sum it up:

This blog got lots of anon hate that was also directed at me despite not being a part of the debate, which was frankly, quite unreasonable. 

Digging up mistakes from a year ago and rubbing it in someone’s face isn’t the healthiest of behaviors. Not if you do it like this.

And also, I understand why you’re still hurt by this. This whole fucking world has a big problem with racism and seeing issues of it reflected in a popular blog is... yeah. I see where you’re coming from and that you’re affected by this and reminded of it. I’m sorry you are and I’m sorry I didn’t point out the comment in the ask. 

And still: The way some people handle the issue with racism is wrong. People calling someone a racist because they’d have preferred a Vinca over a Nahara route, which has happened, is wrong, because that preference was not based on skin color, but personality, which are two very different things. I was asked why I whitewashed Piama in a drawing of mine despite taking her skin color from her sprite directly, and it having been the warm yellow lighting color that made her skin appear lighter. 

Cancel culture makes people send hate to people who are absolutely on their side, based on a comment they made, and that’s wrong. I’d prefer some calm explanation on why what I’m doing is problematic and also, the chance for my apology to be accepted - which is one of the reasons I want to talk to that blogger. I want to know if and what can be changed and improved to make this more welcoming. I want a reasonable talk. I do not want hate.

Yes. Lovestruck has an issue with LIs and MCs of color and that we need more of them. I want more diversity as well. I want POC LIs and side characters and MCs. I want the world of Lovestruck to be as colorful as it possibly can be.

A/W 2020 Fashion Month & Top 20 Collections: Before Vogue Went Blank (Part 4)

Hi all,

Welcome to part 4! It’s gonna be a bit of a shorter one because I wasn’t sure if I could fit the last few collections into my part 3 since I also want to include a ranking of my favourite F/W20 shows. I have so many ideas for what I’d like my next few posts to be (there’ll probably be a bit of gap between them as I would like to try and get some fiction writing in too) and I need help and recommendations on one post in particular so I thought I’d open by explaining that if anyone would like to send me suggestions! The post is basically going to highlight the often under-appreciated personal style of PoC, and I’d also like to make sure I include all types of bodies and genders and ethnicities (other than white girls, as we get enough credit as it is, all a tall, skinny blonde woman has to do is wear some light wash jeans, heels and a blouse and high fashion Twitter are posting non-stop about how incredible her style is)! This can be a celebrity, a model, an influencer or even just one of your friends if you think they deserve some hype too! Obviously there’s only so many photos I can include but I will make sure to look at any suggestions, though of course I’m gonna be biased towards the grungier looks; I gave Dolls Kill a pass for a long time because I thought the brand had changed and become more responsible over the last few years but since Shoddy Lynn’s thoughtless Instagram post during the protests last month and then her lacklustre response video, I say fuck that “goth is white” bullshit, alternative black women are hot af. I’ll also make sure to include a list of my favourite black owned clothing lines I’ve seen people talking about on Twitter and Instagram so again, if you have any suggestions feel free to inbox me. Other than that, I have a couple of lookbooks planned and after, either a post about my favourite shows for style inspiration OR a lookbook depending on whether I have the clothes to do it already/can source a few things from Depop-Depp-I’ve made a commitment not to buy anything new for the next couple of months and I want to stick to that this time round! I’d also like to do a general collation of my favourite summer outfits, an almost scrapbook-y kinda post, and another post on some of my favourite fashion icons (I’ll probs end up repeating a lot of the women from the post I was talking about above but I’ll try and include different outfits to keep it varied!). 

Now, into the final part, and the top 20, starting with Tory Burch (I’m really pissed off because I added an unnecessary E in after the R and now Tumblr is once again being stupid and not saving any of my editing changes-also I said on the next post instead of in in the last paragraph and my anal-retentiveness is kicking into high gear). 

You’d think it’s a kinda anti-climatic one to open with but I do like this collection! It reminds me a bit of last season’s Miu Miu but more so of Brock’s general aesthetic, though with more layers and in some ways to its detriment, a lot more wearable. Looking like something from a bygone era is part of what gives Brock its mystique, but Burch’s designs are practically made for the Chelsea born and bred lifestyle blogger who dresses for a cold spell in the Coachella valley all year long and treats trawling Pimlico’s furniture shops and meeting their girlfriends for coffee like it’s a full-time job. She’s probably born into money and doesn’t work all that hard but hey, she looks angelic holding a bouquet of flowers and in 2020 we all low-key want her life, right? It’d go against my ethics but...*whispers* it would be nice to be that girl just for a couple of days. It is a gorgeous collection, with a lush colour palette and an ever graceful variety of prints and textures, and it toes the line of being accessible and being worthy of a fashion week spot with dexterity. 8/10 and it only loses marks because it’s safe for the brand.

When it comes to Valentino, they’re a pretty reliable favourite for me, and this season’s collection doesn’t break tradition; this one is slightly grittier than usual too which is a big win for me. Whilst the usual sophistication and delicate details are there, quirky embroidery, sequins and tulle, we also get a lot of leather and more black than usual, which I pray doesn’t a herald a return to people thinking “I only own black clothes and listen to Artic Monkeys” is a personality trait. I don’t know if it’s intentional, but there seems to be a lot of aquatically inspired pieces in this collection too; the 3d roses resemble scales to me (and are a really unique texture), and the way the tulle is placed kinda reminds me of fins and has a mermaid on land feel. It wouldn’t surprise me, since Valentino does tend to draw from nature quite a bit. Highs for me were the Valentino red tulle piece and the tulle pieces in general, of course with the embroidered florals as well which the basic bitch in me always looks forward to. The few lows were concentrated in the leopard print section, a print that for me is really overdone and reminds me of recent Dolce and Gabbana. It was cool when layered with the matching coat but I otherwise could’ve done without it.

Vera Wang is another one of my reliable faves-I think I like this collection even more than the last, it really is a fucking DREAM. The overly floral pieces I wasn’t too keen on but I’ll ignore that on the basis that as with Gucci, the tulle-harness combo is everything I look for in a dress and more. I know manic-pixie-dream-girl is a bit of a slur (not a slur slur but you know what I mean) in terms of the associated character, but this 90s Courtney Love grunge twist on that aesthetic is gold, fully realised big anarchist fairy energy (which is a screen name I’m surprised I don’t see more often and which I might now steal). These dresses were made for someone like Zoe Kravitz or FKA Twigs on the red carpet, and if god forbid I somehow ever ended up on one, I would go to the ends of the earth to be wearing one of the dresses from this collection. Aside from the dresses, I appreciated the moody doesn’t-want-to-be-at-the-family-function teenager inspired sleeves and the 2014 Tumblr Cruel Intentions style knee high socks. Love, love, LOVE it.

So, Versace started off strong with the all black looks-the cut outs were cute if impractical and the fit and flare trousers in particularly were really well fitted (from a distance, at least). I hated the film Red Sparrow but the visuals were very cool, and this section reminded me of that, like a high fashion collection based on Jennifer Lawrence’s character. There were some stunning colour combos in the Ashish like hyper-floral part too, and the houndstooth, marble and Versace tile prints were sick. The black jumper with the flowers on reminds me of a jumper of my nan’s I always wanted that my aunty ended up donating to a charity shop after she died not knowing I liked it. Gutted (not just about the jumper obviously, looool).

HOWEVER, as with many 91 look collections, it was sloppy at times. A lot of pieces I at first liked (I.E the silver dress we saw Kendall Jenner in, included above) are kind of unfinished up close. There was also a big varsity inspired section which was nice at times but got pretty repetitive and occasionally looked like it could pass for Jack Wills or a bad Michael Kors collection. On the whole, it had both its pros and its cons which puts it directly in the middle of the pack.

Victoria Beckham’s collection is near the lower-middle quartile when it comes to plotting the highs and lows of the F/20 collections. The pieces are pretty and accessible, I’d definitely wear them, but they’re predictable and mostly a rip-off of other brands who did something similar in a more interesting way. Though her collections are never really experimental, this one is particularly safe, and she and whoever helped design this season’s pieces were clearly avoiding the edges of the box like a child playing the floor is lava. It’s alright, and I hate coming towards the end of the post with negativity, but I have to be honest, and this just doesn’t really interest me beyond a “yeah, that’s nice” glance.

Vivienne Westwood, on the other hand, is always interesting whether I would actually wear it myself or not. Despite the mix and matchiness that is essential to the deconstructed look, which being the basic bitch I am I often struggle to see past, there were some gorgeous pieces and eurgh, I could really talk about that Bella Hadid look all day. The contrast between the exaggerated femininity of the waist cinchers against the androgyny of the less structured, oversized pieces is a really interesting one and the colour combinations work beautifully together. I also love the idea behind the collection, which is, in the words of Andreas Kronthaler about “rites of spring, and the good and the bad, and conflict, and the good prevailing over evil”. Ahhh, I hear you say. THAT’S what’s with the garlic necklace. Can I get another pat on the back for summing up this collection as “vampire slaying uniform” in my notes? I mean, that’s kind of a good vs. evil situation, isn’t it? I know it’s hard to ignore how hot vampires always are in TV series and movies but just think of the true forms of the ones off Penny Dreadful and remember THEY DRINK BLOOD (I personally think being a vampire would be really cool, just need to work out how to do it “ethically”).

Lastly, Zimmerman, and I really can’t say how happy I am to end on a positive note because this collection was stunning. Not without all the characteristically ornate, indulgent and painstakingly detailed efforts we’ve come to expect from Nicky and Simone Zimmerman, these looks (in an icy winter themed colour palette as well) are the offspring of a sophisticated flower child and a 70s glam rocker and I think with this sentence I’ve finally put my style aspirations into words. Honestly, give me the money to produce a modern day Almost Famous and I’ll make my character this no-nonsense intersectional feminist front woman of a fictional Haim-like band who sings with the voice of an angel but is rock and roll as fuck and eats men for breakfast and I’ll put her in this collection and (deep breath) it would be ICONIC. There. Got to the point eventually. Am I talking about a 2020s version of Steve Nicks? Possibly. After all, I do have a framed illustration of her on my wall. But regardless, I need those lace-up velvet BOOTS, that mesh dress with the celestial embroidery, the flame detail pieces, the white pussy bow blouse with the eyes on it. Everything is sooo dreamy; when I was looking through the collection for my favourites, I saved pretty much every. single. look. IT’S EVERYTHING I STRIVE TO BE. WHY CAN’T I AFFORD ZIMMERMAN GOD DAMN IT!?

See, I’ll be going on about Zimmerman in a couple of paragraphs again because it will be very high in my top 20, which I’m so glad is a top 20 BTW. I know I said it would be a top 10 in my last post because I thought that was how I structured it last time but I double checked and it is 20, which is a relief; once again, picking only 10 collections would be very hard. SO! Let’s get into it!

1. Gucci

I hate being predictable but Gucci once again holds the top spot for me. How could I not love this? I would say that I hope Alessandro Michele fucks up next season so I don’t come off as a boot licker but when the boots in question are platform Mary Janes and knee high socks and they’re underneath tulle with BDSM inspired harnesses on top...maybe boot sole doesn’t taste so bad after all.

2. Zimmerman

Well, I did say it wouldn’t be long until you were seeing the same outfits again, so at least you know my word is good.

3. Moschino

Wow, as if putting Gucci first again wasn’t bad enough, Moschino’s also a non-mover. But...Marie Antoinette this season and Picasso last? And this campy? It’s like Jeremy Scott reached into my brain magician-into-a-top-hat-style, picked out an interest of mine at random, and tried to communicate this to me through the medium of design with THE most chaotic energy humanly possible. I an only commend the man, because he succeeded, and I approve. It’s weird because before I always saw Jeremy Scott’s designs as tacky and yet I’ve loved all the collections I’ve reviewed, so I must ask...are the collections getting less tacky or am I getting more tacky? Much to think about.

4. Vera Wang

The battle armour of a punk princess. Not very good at protecting against knives, arrows, bullets or...anything really, but I’ve never really been the kind of person to get into physical fights (apart with a bouncer who tried to push me down the stairs once at an ABBA night but I was really drunk and she was mean, alright!?), so who cares? Nobody can make you do anything in dresses this pretty.

5. Lanvin

I’m a few years behind everyone else but I’m still on the Mad Men hype train and I don’t ever want to get off. All I wish is that Betty Draper had *SPOILERS* divorced Don’s detty arse earlier and rode off into the sunset in that white Bella Hadid coat with the red lip to match (or the checkered one above will do).

6. Etro

As someone who has probably been/met many a spoilt brat in her time, I appoint Miu Miu as the official sponsor of the Spoilt Brat™ aesthetic and yeah, that’s something I just made up but I’m on the money here. Imagine one of those “daddy, can you get me a pony?” types all grown up. Are you telling me you don’t picture her in Miu Miu? Because that sounds like a lie.

The war flashbacks I get of the Friends episode where Ross tries to get out of those leather trousers aside (I know it’s PVC her not leather but they have the same sheen, you can’t deny it), these outfits turn me into the irl version of the heart eyes emoji. It’s not like I think this is the best collection I’ve ever seen, YSL could def push the boat out a bit in terms of experimentation, but there aren’t many people who wouldn’t look hot as fuck in one of these pieces

I didn’t like ALL of it, but the looks that I did like were amongst the ones that stuck out to me most when I was reflecting on the collections I’ve reviewed: the breast plates and silk capes and the scorpion detailing are real chef’s kiss moments.

That is the end! Wow! I started saving the photos for this review back in late January/early February or whenever it was that the first fashion week began and now it’s mid-fucking July!? I don’t know if that speaks more to my incompetency or what a state the last few months have been. I’m not gonna write a super long ending paragraph because you’ve heard enough from me already and it’s 2:30am and I’m being hassled by Trump supporters on Twitter (literally just for stating that it’s a privilege to be able to pursue a career you truly have a passion for rather than having to be practical about finances first) anddddd I’ve got a closing shift tomorrow so I should probably log the fuck off and remove my clown makeup before it’s time to start my shift, lol!

Quick recommendation before I wrap this up, there was a really interesting debate on ITV literally a few hours ago on the Stephen Lawrence case that I thought I would recommend (they also showed the 1999 dramatic portrayal of events afterwards) about racism in England and whether or not much has changed since the murder. I didn’t catch the whole thing but from what I did see, there were some really strong points being made and I think it could be a good thing to sit and watch with your family members if you want to get talking about the Black Lives Matter movement and aren’t sure how to broach the topic. I bring it up because I feel like most middle-aged white people trust ITV so they’re less likely to turn their noses up (lol, I wish I was joking) at it and maybe go in with a more open mind. I’d like to keep the conversation about social issues going so if there’s anything you’d like me to get some information together on and make a post about-I read yesterday that there’d been arrests of THE PEOPLE PROTESTING the way Breonna Taylor’s death has been handled. No, not the police officers responsible for her death, the people simply pointing out that those police officers have done wrong. It’s a ridiculous situation and just shows how deeply embedded a police officer’s supposed right to kill and to use force is in upholding the American status quo. I wish I could end the post on better news, but let’s hope that next time I post, there is some, and as always thank you for reading til the end if you did get this far! The End of an Era

Seven years ago, yes count those, SEVEN years ago, in late 2014, at the peak of internet fashion hauls and makeup tutorials, during the rise of YouTube and Pinterest and Tumblr, I moved from podunk Montana to the big urban areas in and around Portland, Oregon. Portlandia was airing, hipsters were growing mustaches and wearing plaid on a global scale, and I was ready to drink craft beer and breathe in as much pine scent as I could muster. 

I wanted to be a Blogger or a Vlogger. I wanted to talk about travel, but also film, but also also makeup and fashion because I was growing into my fashionista-ness. I wanted to infiltrate little boutiques and hold events and start social media campaigns, you know, really get ahead of the curve. So my first(ish) job when I moved out here was working as a sales associate for a tiny boutique.

Now, this boutique was a chain based in Austin or Houston or something, so I wasn’t going to head their social media anytime soon, and I was just working as a lowly sales associate at minimum wage, and I’m pretty sure I only worked about twenty hours to start out, but I had confidence in myself and my abilities to grow up and out.

God, I remember during my interview, I wore this NEON FLORAL swing dress that I’d bought in Portland with my Mom that July, paired with a neon sports bra that matched the colors in the dress, all topped off with a God awful cobalt blue cropped cardigan and probably some glitter-embellished shoes. For those of you who have grown to love and appreciate my new sense of style (emo-chic), you’ll understand how mind-boggling that would have been. Oh God, I probably also had matching neon lipstick and eyeliner or something.

The point is, I was young and adorable and confident in my skin and my outfit decisions. I remember panicking throughout the interview, noticing bright colors on the racks of the stock room over the manager’s head and just talking about how much I loved color… the ENTIRE interview. It’s honestly a miracle she hired me.

The reason I’m talking about this now, and the reason it’s all come surging back into my memory so damn vividly, is because Sean and I were walking through that little shopping center over the weekend (the entire mall has been and always will be one of my favorite places in my area), and we walked by this little boutique to see it’s Closing. We hopped in and bought four pairs of earrings as a last donation to the cause, and I immediately felt bitter sweet and melancholy and nostalgic for everything I learned and did there.

I talk about my outfits, my prospects at that time in my life, to reflect on just how much I’ve grown. I was so young, on the edge of 23, and I moved away from home for the very first time. I dragged my boyfriend along with me, and we overstayed our welcome at my Grandma’s. I actually remember driving the 40 minutes to work and 40 minutes back in the middle of the night, fog coating the road and my car, cranking One Direction’s Four album. (A premonition that Zayn was leaving, don’t we think!?)

I was experimenting with a social media presence, with blogging, with fashion and makeup, absorbing everything I could. I explored Portland and the surrounding areas. We went to the coast constantly. I just wanted to get out and see the world, be whoever I didn’t think I could back home. I was making new friends and trying to figure out who I was without college or Musicals or the country western bars or Perkins.

The biggest issues I had were suburban Moms from Lake Oswego that wheeled strollers through our claustrophobic boutique, knocking breakables off the gift table and then scoffing at us before they left. I spent hours irritated with my boss for being a controlling 25-year-old (an actual child). I clung to the drama of my past, not understanding how to be without thinking of how much my hometown had “wronged me”. Dear God, I was dramatic. 

I had prejudices, against suburban Moms! And against sex workers and against hipsters and against Big City people that didn’t understand Little City people and against Little City people that didn’t understand me. 

I talked too much and didn’t work hard. My only real memories of actual work from that boutique were untangling the God damn necklaces, which TRUST me was an 8 hour task. Mainly, though, we dusted the room for the 40th time and gossiped about senseless things like boyfriends that wouldn’t hurry up and propose already! (Sean did two and a half years later.)

I met my best friend there, unexpectedly. I remember meeting her and thinking she was way too cool for me. She’s stunning, hip, knows how to style a French tuck, and she seemed to rule the boutique in a way that I couldn’t ever match. The actual manager hated it too, always trying to undermine her to appear superior. None of us could live up to the grace and beauty that was Rochelle. 

We bonded over our hatred for retail and our love for One Direction and YouTube and conspiracy theories, and I’m so so glad we did. I also met at least three of my other best friends as an extension, and if any of you are reading this, I love you all. 

I took up writing again in 2014. First, little blog pieces, like I mentioned before. I wrote about my favorite products and all the places I wanted to visit in Oregon (some of them, I still haven’t crossed off my list. Sean? Get the car!). But then, something in me whispered that I needed to try creative writing again. I don’t think I’d written a story for years, not since freshman year of college when I’d write dramatic love stories about the boys I had crushes on. (Do you remember that, Aubrie? So embarrassing!) 

So I sat down, the day after Christmas, at my grandma’s countertop, and I decided to start writing a tiny piece of fiction every single day for a year. That was my goal, just a year. Until I couldn’t stop. I think I did just over 550 days, and even then, I never thought that someday I’d call myself a “writer”. I was still working retail, planning on social media management and fashion blogging, at a different boutique and a different stage in my life. But that’s a story for another time. 

I guess the point of all this, the reminiscing and nostalgia, is that if I could go back and pay that girl a visit, walk into that store and help her untangle those necklaces, I’d tell her her colored mascara is fierce and that she should keep at it. I’d tell her that someday, she would laugh at all of the drama from back home. I’d tell her that she’d move on to bigger and better jobs, and she’d kick ass at them until she realized her true calling. I’d tell her to keep writing because nothing will make her happier. I’d tell her to buy less furniture, because she’s going to be in that apartment too damn long. 

But mostly, I’d tell her that time moves on and people change and interests change and the weather changes, so just have a total blast with everything you’re doing right now, in the moment. I want to look back in another 7 years with twice the amount of fondness, knowing that I was struggling with silly, minute qualms that won’t matter then. Knowing how much I’ve grown and learned and shaped, I can’t wait to see how much I’ll grow and learn and shape in the future. 

Although, I do hope, in 7 years, I’m still wearing strictly black and white. Hahaha!

5 Good Things That Happened To You In 2018

I ended up falling in love with one of my bestfriends after finally getting out of a relationship that was all over the place. we became closer and closer and eventually fell in love and now we call every night. to make things even better we met last month, the day after my birthday to be exact and I dare say it was one of the best days in my whole entire 17 years of living, so shoutout to my girl for being so angelic and especially for being mine.

I slowly learned how to see my self worth, I began learning how to love myself and how to own up to my mistakes even more but also how to not let people completely push me over etc. I’m currently still in the process of learning how to stop self sabotaging myself but it’s going well thanks to my girlfriend. overall, I finally started taking myself into consideration.

I reconnected with old friends and am glad i did. I managed to help them through hard times and sometimes I still do if y’know I remember to reply. I have not only learned to better myself as a person, I’ve learned how to better as a friend as well, I’ve been improving and have realized setbacks won’t stop you unless you let them.

I became closer with my dad and now it’s like we’re best friends, we’ve shared more sentimental and meaningful memories this year that will forever be implanted in my brain. without him, I wouldn’t be as sane as I am today and that’s a fact.

I mean, this one’s kinda lame but I bought a record player and so much more things that I now use on a daily basis, material wise I have gotten better things that I am so grateful for. overall, i’m grateful to still be here even when i thought I couldn’t be anymore because of the toughness of dealing with mental illnesses, etc.

20 self-care tips

Welcome back glo gang for everyone that is new here hi my name is Mickhailia and I am a blogger and for everyone that’s been rocking with me heyyyyy I love you so much and thank you for supporting me as much as I support you. Today Im going to be talking about selfcare and just basically things that we can do at home or even out of the home to take care of ourselves mentally, physically and emotionally. Self-care is so important to me because I feel like once you feel good inside your body and once your body is healthy and cared for and then there are no limits to the things that you can do, the things that you can imagine and the things that you can accomplish once you feel good inside your body because energy is from the inside out and if you have that energy then the skies the limit.

No I won’t be putting in here and telling you guys to go to the spa and take a $90 facial or a $50 body massage. Self care can be the smallest things, giving your self a pedicure or doing a deep conditioning treatment or trying a new facemask.

So here’s a list of 30 things that you can do that doesn’t require you spending a lot of money and still make you feel good about yourself.

A diy spa day

Grab some Epson salt and I scented candle fill your bathtub with warm water and a few drops of lavender oil and have a spa day

 2. Make yourself a playlist

When I make myself playlists actually feel a sense of accomplishment because when I go back and listen to the music that I put in the playlist it’s very reflective of what I was going through at that time and so is shows growth since then and now. Making yourself a playlist can be happy, sad, productive or reflective it is able to give off whatever energy that you want from that music.

3. Brew yourself a cup of tea

I love teas and tried so many of them and I wish that one day I will be able to try them all. Teas have so many purposes there are teas for relaxation, teas that help your mind, teas that help your skin and just your overall good health to show you how much of a tea drinker I am I have a subscription with myTeabox it’s basically a monthly box that get sent to my house with a selection of teas and you get to try them see the health benefits and it’s just a really nice thing to expect in the mail every month. They have black teas, white teas, green teas chai teas or long tees and a lot more it cost approximately C$28 plus $10 and some change for shipping and the other one that I recently tried is amoda tea it’s $18 a month free shipping.

4. Do a deep conditioning treatment on your hair

Not only will this benefit your hair but it will feel good in yourself that you were doing something that will help you and that alone subconsciously makes you happy just get a steam cap an avacado and some honey mix it together and there you go.

 5. Read a good book

Honestly I must say personally I’m not a fan of reading but when I do read and I find that perfect book it’s so satisfying and I feel so empowered to have read that book and if you aren’t a big reader and you are still interested in literature then listen to audiobooks trust me it makes a difference. Basically all it is is an audio version of the book that you wish to read so plug in your headphones and listen to someone else read the book to you.

6. Make yourself a smoothie/fruit bowl.  if you have an extra 10 minutes to spare in the morning before you head off to work or to school or wherever your day may lead you make yourself a smoothie or a fruit bowl doesn’t have to be anything fancy you can just get some strawberries a few grapes a few cherries and some slices of apples put in a bowl in there you go or you can use all those ingredients and just throw it into your blender and there you go have a smoothie.

7. Drink 1 L of water

I honestly was one of those people that are like “are you serious drink water to be healthy?” but listening to those instructions and drinking water has significantly helped me to be more healthier not only in like my physical health but to make me feel good mentally and to have a clear mind so please drink your water guys.

8. Take five minutes to reflect at the end of every day

It’s so important to reflect on your day and how it went, what you could’ve done to make your day better, things that were a success and to give yourself credit for those successes because then and only then well we learn how to appreciate things in life and how to forgive ourselves for the things that don’t go well from that we will grow and become better individuals.

9.Create a journal entry at the end of the week

The 10-year-old me would be so proud because that’s all she invested her time in to write things in her diary and to live this television fantasy of having a Book of crushes and a book of untold secrets the girls she doesn’t like and the girls that are her BFFs. Having a journal isn’t childish or Petty.  Journals can help you to cope with whatever situation you’re going through, it can be a reminder of the things that you’ve done and accomplished successfully, it can be a resting place for the things that you wish to not say to anybody it can also be a friend believe it or not. You can be comfortable with knowing that you’re letting your thoughts out in the open but not to a conscious mind

. 10. Go for a morning walk

This doesn’t have to be an every day routine because I know some people schedules are crazy busy but maybe on a Saturday morning when there’s not much to do before you eat breakfast and get about your day just take 15 minutes to go for a walk, taking that fresh air let out all the bad toxins everything that happened in the previous week just let it out you’re by yourself and bills trust with and yourself also it is a great physical activity to help having a healther life,take a bottle water with you just in case you get a little bit tired or you just need to have some water.

11. Grow a plant

This can be very therapeutic for some people seeing something around you is what’s uplifting to people it also teaches responsibility and how to care because if you don’t water the plant then you know what happens.

12. Create routines

Some people like to live their lives unplanned and spontaneous Lee which is fine and that’s OK if that’s how you progress and how you see yourself moving forward by doing things out of the blue and spontaneously because I for one do that sometimes but having a routine for certain things that you do a skin care routine morning routine the homework routine whatever it may be as long as you find something that works for you and that will continue to work for you then stick to it and make it your personal routine. It could be a three-step guideline of the things that help you to study or it could be a list of things that you do in order in the morning before you get ready for work or school or could even be a route that you take to the grocery store whatever it is write it down and make it your routine it will help you to feel organized it will help you when your mind feels cluttered and you feel confused make yourself a routine.

13. Take pictures

I for one loves scrolling down my Tumblr page full of sunsets and very cosy pictures and if this is something that’s therapeutic for you then maybe you should start taking the photographs if you go out to the park at say 6 PM and you see the sun going down and it looks beautiful to you, take a picture of it you can look back at it and say wow this was a beautiful sunset or you can post it and split someone else say that it’s a beautiful sunset. Whatever it is that inspires you or whatever give you vision then take a picture of it.

 14. Sing a song

I’ve always been a musical person I’ve always loved to sing always loved the express whatever I was feeling through Music and it has always helped me. If you’re sad if you’re happy if you’re excited if you’re angry whatever type of emotion you’re feeling inside there will always always be a song that can help you express that to turn away from those feelings or to help build on those feelings. I have a Spotify and SoundCloud account and they are the most used apps on my phone and that’s no joke because I’m constantly playing music constantly trying to find new music and expanding my music taste.

 15. Do a DIY project

If you need something to keep you busy or if you are genuinely a person who likes doing a whole projects or you just need something to do for fun go on Pinterest find a great project to do. It doesn’t have to be anything strenuous on the list this is what you want you can find projects that don’t require you to leave your house and products that you can use materials from around your house so that you don’t have to go to buy anything but if you do then that’s OK and make sure it’s not expensive and just craft away.

16. Create goals

When I say create goals I don’t mean to plan the next five years of your life lol. Just simple plans of how your going to get through your day

17. Redecorate your room

I really me feel like a whole new girl when my room looks new and I will move things around and my dresser isn’t in the same place it was the night before and my bed is to the window like that brings me a lot of self satisfaction and it just looks nice like you make me feel like I did something good just read decorate your room it doesn’t need to be anything huge like what I do but I could just literally mean that you hang the new art piece somewhere else like you know like you put your dresser to the opposite wall than it was before just to have something ne

 18. Take a nap

Omggg girl! Let me tell you about those after school power naps doors are heavenly. At some point I feel like those little power naps after school is better than a good nights rest and if you have a little bit of spare time and you can take one of these power nap after school knobs after work naps trust me you will be refreshed

 19. Unplug from social media for a couple hours

I know this might sound a little bit tough to those who can’t go a day or a couple hours without social media and I completely understand that because I believe that I’m the same as well but it’s possible.

I really do think I can admit that I’m addicted to my phone and it’s not a good thing but it is what it is but I feel like these days I’ve been able to give myself a couple hours to be away from it and really just use those couple hours that I’m not on my phone to reflect his social media it has its pros and it’s cons yes you get to see Wyatt the shade room is posting at 3 PM and yes you get to see what is happening in the news and what lip kit Callie Jenner’s about to launch bought it becomes addicting and it takes away time from doing real things in the real world. The negative sides the social media is that we become so sucked into this world of virtuality that we forget that we live on earth and that we live in a real society.

I genuinely don’t understand how you shared the Appalachian folk magic post and said it’s open for anyone, but, if you don’t have Appalachian roots, how is that different from taking any other closed cultures practice and claiming it as your own. As a second generation American with a mash up of eastern European genetics, I’d feel just as odd attempting to practice Appalachian granny magic as I would hoodoo. Care to explain what determines this besides someone just declaring it is or isn’t ok?

It’s very common all across Tumblr and also here on my blog to talk about practices that are open/closed/semi-closed based off of what is known about it, and then if people are misinformed or I am misinformed then IMO it’s important to be corrected and/or have more discussion. If someone of Appalachian heritage who practices granny magic was informing me of reasons why they feel uncomfortable with me saying it’s “open,” and they feel that it’s very much closed or semi-closed, then I would be very happy to listen to their perspective, fact-check myself with more research, and then change how I describe that practice if needed. I feel like it’s incredibly important to admit when I’ve got my perspective or information wrong and make adjustments. I want to work as hard as I can not to engage in or perpetuate any form of cultural appropriation. When someone takes the time to help with this, it’s greatly appreciated.

I’m not infallible, and that’s why I am very glad when people let me know if I’ve misspoken or misstepped and try to educate me on a practice or culture they are a part of just like I try to do for other people about my practices and cultures. When we’re willing to reach out and also willing to listen, we can all grow as a community in that way. I always want to be part of that on both sides. But rather than coming from that perspective of trying to inform or correct me as someone who practices Appalachian granny magic and who’s from Appalachian culture, you are coming at me on anon with a rather accusatory tone even though you say that you’re not a part of that specific culture based on your heritage. There’s nothing wrong with your questions, they’re important questions to ask and think deeply about. I’m pointing out that the attitude isn’t appreciated or necessary, anon.

I did not grow up in the Appalachian mountains (or even anywhere rural), so I cannot speak for that culture and as I already mentioned, if someone who is a part of that culture feels differently about it then I’d be very interested to hear their perspective and learn more. That being said, I’ve done my best to research from reliable sources and do my due diligence to understand where Appalachian folk magic comes from and whether or not it’s appropriate to recommend it as open to anyone to learn and practice regardless of their ancestry or background. “Open,” by the way, doesn’t mean a free-for-all grab whatever you want out of context. I mean it in the sense that anyone regardless of their background can study it and can learn to practice it from appropriate and authentic sources. I think a basic respect for any culture and any tradition even if it’s “open” should include these considerations.

Appalachian folk magic primarily comes from Irish, Scottish, and European folk magic traditions brought to the Appalachian Mountains by European immigrants. It is a primarily Eurocentric American folk magic tradition. It is important to note that there are other influences too such as influences from hoodoo in it. There are places where they overlap with each other, but they also developed historically in very different contexts. Hoodoo was originally developed by black African and African-descended slaves as a means for survival, personal agency, and cultural preservation in the midst of hundreds of years of horrific and inhumane treatment. Appalachian folk magic as practiced by white European immigrants and their descendants did not develop within the conditions of slavery. Despite some of the overlap and cultural exchange between these traditions, the historical and racial dynamics that contributed to the development of each one are vastly different in nature.

Cultural appropriation by definition is when someone borrows aspects from a non-dominant culture in ways that are not welcomed or permitted by that non-dominant culture. The term typically isn’t applicable to religions, traditions, or practices that are mostly related to or derived from dominant cultures. In theory, this would absolutely be the case for Appalachian granny magic given that it is primarily based in British, Irish, and Scottish folk magic. Now, sometimes there may be exceptions to this general guideline for various reasons, which is why I decided to search for authentic sources on Appalachian granny magic written by people who are legitimate practitioners from that culture. Here’s what I found, which to me seems to indicate very clearly that Appalachian folk magic is indeed an open practice.

First of all some background from folklorist and historian Anthony Cavender who wrote Folk Medicine in Southern Appalachia based on oral histories and archival sources from the nineteenth century to the present.

“To some observers, past and present, the distinctiveness of Southern Appalachian people is situated not in ethnicity, for it would be problematic to argue that they are a distinct ethnic group, but rather in the commonly accepted belief that they were victimized by culture lag due to geographical isolation” (Cavender xiii).

“There never was nor is there now a variety of folk medicine unique to Southern Appalachia. To be sure, one can identify nuances of difference in comparison to other Euro-American populations. The fundamental folk medical beliefs used by Southern Appalachians to explain the cause of illness, however, are not peculiar to them. The same beliefs have been well documented among Euro-American populations in other parts of the country as well as among African Americans” (Cavender xiii).

Mountain Magick: Folk Wisdom from the Heart of Appalachia is written by Edain McCoy, who is a descendant of the McCoy family from Kentucky. The description of her book says, 

“In today’s magickal community, Anglo-Celtic religions seem to be the most popular. Even if you are following a British or Irish tradition, you should not overlook the rich folk magick as revealed in Mountain Magick. Many of the people (and their traditions) in this area come from the Scottish and English immigrants who settled there as long ago as the mid-1700s. That is why you will find information on how to integrate the Appalachian folkways with your magickal lifestyle” [x].

Rebecca Beyer is the blogger of Blood and Spicebush, who was born in Appalachia and also researches, writes about, and teaches Appalachian folk magic. She makes it clear that her concerns are for cultural appropriation within Appalachian folk magic of indigenous cultures (as there are some Native influences) and from POC (due to hoodoo influences). She writes,

“I tell my students whether we are studying Medieval herbalism or Appalachian folk charms against ghosts, that some things are not meant for us. I was born in Appalachia, but raised all over this country, and that means that those things to which I am privy are different than those things that are privy to someone who was born and raised here in these mountains that I call home.

I do not mourn that, for what good would that do me. It is a reality to live in the sometimes-discomfort of realizing we all have access to different things and have different work to do. Living in shame or envy is not the answer. Just as we face the privileges afforded to us by our whiteness, class and/or ability, we must closely and lovingly examine the traditions we engage in for spiritual gain as well… We can do it without spiritual picking-and-choosing in appropriative ways that cause harm to indigenous folks and POC” [x]. 

I hope these sources and my explanations thoroughly answer your question, anon. In short, my stating that Appalachian granny folk magic is an open tradition is not about whether or not I have Appalachian heritage but ultimately a part of a broader discussion about cultural appropriation, the dynamics of dominant and non-dominant cultures, the history of how this Eurocentric tradition developed compared to other American folk traditions, and most importantly the voices of actual practitioners of Appalachian folk magic who do have a right to that culture and have chosen to teach and share it with others.

So with that, I invite anyone who has more information to please join in the discussion! I hope that I am correct in my understanding of this tradition being open, but if not then I am very open to feedback and learning more.

Okay, okay, so update on my life before I go and do the 30th and final entry for the 30 Day Luciferian Challenge. So real life stuff and a bit of occult stuff.

On an odd note, I went on a rant about gaining followers on instagram. I am trying to build myself up as a public figure as a blogger/photographer/outdoors woman kind of thing. I ended up singing to “popular” from wicked under my breath and what do you know...I am gaining followers. I haven’t changed much in my behavior on IG but it is working. Yay! I have doubled in followers (from 150 to 300).

I applied to be a brand ambassador for this company that seems to be up my ally. A small company that fits my values and such. That being said, I don’t know if I get it. I won��t be to upset if I don’t. But it’s a step in the direction I want to go plus maybe make some cash.

Two, I have decided to join my local AMC Chapter...and do the leadership program. I am always trying to get my friends to go out hiking locally or drag them to the mountains. I think this would only serve to better me as a person and as someone who does want to be a leader.

I am moving my life...in the way I want it to go. Next year I am going to reach towards being a CNA and get myself out of housekeeping. Then I will reach towards either being an RN or a Physical Therapist Assistant.

....which I just received the email and yay! I get to be a brand ambassador!! It might not be a big name like Patagonia but perhaps in the future I will be! Because...that would be amazing if I could hike, camp, and explore and not have to hold down so seriously a day job. Or maybe I could just do it part time and spend the rest of it going places. Seeing all the national parks. *starry eyed*

I have dreams...big dreams and a promise to myself that I am going to go places!! That I am going to keep challenging myself and to keep growing, to be the best me and hopefully a good adventure mom.

Man I am drowning in books. I have required reading now and I have to put down the Devil’s Supper. My four books that I ordered from Three Hands Press just came in...The Moribund Portal, The Wicked Shall Decay, The Witching Other, and A Rose Veiled in Black (because I am still wondering who Red Woman is and Babalon is a close guess). I also have two books on Kuan Yin to read...

I want to go over Going Home by Thich Naht Hanh because it makes me think a lot about my expression of Luciferianism. Which when I do it’s going to be a series of deep personal posts. I think I will aim for that in December as NaNoWriMo is about to hit and I always participate.

Instruments: Nope. I am bad at music.

What I’m currently wearing: smart top (from christening) with slouchy yoga pants and a fluffy jumper (because I changed straight out of my smart trousers as soon as I got home)

How many blankets I sleep with: One duvet, and one throw over that. This throw is falling to bits, but replacing it is a bugger as it has to be the right weight or I can’t sleep properly. Bloody sensory processing issues.

Dream job: No idea. I loved my bookshop job until it all went horrible. I’d like a lottery win and then to open my own bookshop/needlework-shop where I could hire people to do the actual work and I could just do the fun bits.

Dream trip: Monaco F1. Also, I’d love to go to the USA and visit all the places I’ve seen in films, read about in books, or heard about in songs. I’ll need the lottery win for these too.

Do you have a crush: A permanent one on my OH (he’s a saint) and a long standing one on Sebastian Stan. All crushes I’ve ever had have been directly related to how damn cute they are when smiling, so I have a definite type.

Favourite animal: horse. (and my cat who just sank her claws into my ankle as I hit the full stop key. How did she know?!)

Hair Colour: Blonde (from a bottle). I started dying it 24 years ago so I have no clue what it should really look like.

Nicknames: I mean technically my name is a nickname but… @singingwithsherlock sometimes calls me Danu/Danu-san, my friend Marisa once tried to make calling me “teeth” a thing (literally no backstory whatsoever, just picked a word at random) but thankfully that never caught on

Height: 5’3” (just barely) but somehow still taller than a good third of my family

Nationality: American melting pot of like half the European countries

Favourite fruit: most fruits don’t really agree with me but I once ate five(5) clementines in the span of like 15 minutes

Favourite season: fall probably, not too cold but cold enough to wear my doc martens

Favourite plant: cacti and succulents (the weirder looking the better) because they won’t die on my like my air plant and carnivorous plant garden did

Favourite scent: I guess garlic? Idk I’m more of a texture person

Favourite colour: neon green, black (many things I own tend to be some combination of the two)

Favourite animal: sting rays/mantas (my precious sea pancakes), also snakes and owls are chill
