Heads up, there's a new wave of pornbots I've been seeing over the past few days.

Yes, these are all bots. They have actual randomized words in their usernames now, which makes them a bit more difficult to weed out.

Make sure you're double-checking new followers if you don't want pornbot messages, and send messages and support requests to @staff about maybe putting a simple captcha on the sign-up page, which would do a lot to fix the problem or at least slow it down.

Also, if your blog is untitled and has no posts, you are likely to be blocked by people thinking you're a bot. Reblog stuff, don't just like it, and spend a couple minutes customizing your blog. That's all it takes.

SOMEBODY for some reason sees fit to post p0rn links on here, and they put as many random-ass popular tags as they can so that as many people as possible are forced to see it.

Like, if I was looking for p0rn then I’d look for p0rn. But I don’t. Because I’m ✨asexual.✨

Now personally, I just grimaced, rolled my eyes, and reported this blog when I saw this. But sex-repulsed asexuals, or just sex-repulsed people EXIST, you know! People who maybe have trauma, or were just born repulsed don’t deserve to be subjected to random naked people while they’re minding their own business, just scrolling through their feed or looking for something totally unrelated to that nastiness.

Like, look. I get that Tumblr has policies that restrict sexually explicit material, but come on. Misusing the tags like that is a shit thing to do. A lot of people have certain tags filtered out on purpose because they have good reason to not want to see things like that. And you’re gonna throw it in their face anyway? That’s sick, low, and shitty. Screw you, Tumbler p0rn bots and blogs that do this. 🖕

Finally, a male counterpart to the pornbots. Do you think they're the same species with heavy sexual dimorphism? Are they different species competing for territory? And the crypto-bots an invasive species?

Like, pornbots are pests, but I'm pretty sure they're native to Tumblr. I've never seen a crypto-bot in the wild, even though I've been on tumblr for years. Are they just rare?

I've block and reported this one, like I normally do with pornbots, but I'm not sure if there is something else to do. Is it something worth worrying about? Any experts on the Tumblr ecosystem around here?

Wisdom of Tumblr, someone I know on another platform just joined us here. Welcome to @divi2012 !!! But for some reason, when they follow the tags #young royals and #wilmon, they get lots of porn.

That doesn’t happen to me when I follow those tags, so I’m totally flummoxed. Is there a reason they’re getting all this porn when they’re just looking for YR content, and specifically not looking for random naked people making silly faces?

I’ve had a Tumblr for many years, but have only been active on the platform since I discovered YR in November 2022. Plus, I’m not a terribly tech-literate person. But I would really like this person to be able to safely follow the YR-related tags without said tags being infested by random porn. So I seek the wisdom if my mutuals to figure out how they can have a positive experience here.

And yes, I’ve already advised them to snooze Tumblr Live.

Fair warning: if you follow me, have no profile picture or a picture of a human as your pfp, your blog is untitled, and you have a non-Transformers-related username, I will block and report you on suspicion of being a bot. Most people will do this.

I don't know how many times I've restated this, but I think it's necessary again now that the bots are evolving to have more Tumblr-ish usernames.

Don't know how to customize your blog? Literally just google it. It's not hard, and it doesn't take much time at all.

For some reason I keep getting a bunch of likes on the "every animal is beautiful" reblog below that are like... ACTUALLY sexually explicit pornbots. Not even posts with community labels. Just loads of women being rawed with their partners' penises visible, and links to the supposed videos they're from.

So apparently pornbots also like unconventional, hated-by-society animals?

Anyway. I'm sacrificing my sanity for the greater good and going in there to report them. If I don't come back tell my friends and family I loved them.

(Jokes aside I'm surprised nobody else in the notes on that post has done anything... maybe specifically because it's sexually explicit instead of a blank blog?)
