Kind of annoying that my AO3 handle breaks with my consistent Hamlet-act-1-scene-2-lines-296-to-297 branding, but I would feel very reluctant to change it after all this time.
Also, while aching melancholy is very much a well I revisit often in fic, I mostly write things that are pretty fluffy, which SweetPollyOliver is a better fit for.

I was wondering if you have resources on how to explain (in good faith) to someone why AI created images are bad. I'm struggling how to explain to someone who uses AI to create fandom images, b/c I feel I can't justify my own use of photoshop to create manips also for fandom purposes, & they've implied to me they're hoping to use AI to take a photoshopped manip I made to create their own "version". I know one of the issues is stealing original artwork to make imitations fast and easy.
Hey anon. There are a lot of reasons that AI as it is used right now can be a huge problem - but the easiest ones to lean on are:
1) that it finds, reinforces, and in some cases even enforces biases and stereotypes that can cause actual harm to real people. (For example: a black character in fandom will consistently be depicted by AI as lighter and lighter skinned until they become white, or a character described as Jewish will...well, in most generators, gain some 'villain' characteristics, and so on. Consider someone putting a canonically transgender character through an AI bias, or a woman who is not perhaps well loved by fandom....)
2) it creates misinformation and passes it off as real (it can make blatant lies seem credible, because people believe what they see, and in fandom terms, this can mean people trying to 'prove' that the creator stole their content from elsewhere, or allow someone to create and sell their own 'version' of content that is functionally unidentifiable from canon
3) it's theft. The algorithm didn't come up with anything that it "makes," it just steals some real person's work and then mangles is a bit before regurgitating it with usually no credit to the original, actual creator. (In fandom terms: you have just done the equivalent of cropping out someone else's watermark and calling yourself the original artist. After all, the AI tool you used got that content from somewhere; it did not draw you a picture, it copy pasted a picture)
4) In some places, selling or distributing AI art is or may soon be illegal - and if it's not illegal, there are plenty of artists launching class action lawsuits against those who write the algorithm, and those who use it. Turns out artists don't like having their art stolen, mangled, and passed off as someone else's. Go figure.
Here are some articles that might help lay out more clear examples and arguments, from people more knowledgeable than me (I tried to imbed the links with anti-paywall and anti-tracker add ons, but if tumblr ate my formatting, just type "12ft.io/" in front of the url, or type the article name into your search engine and run it through your own ad-blocking, anti tracking set up):

I’ve seen several tweets about the allegations against coxon being ‘debunked’. Is there any truth to this notion? I haven’t found any evidence of the allegations not being true, so I’m kinda confused right now
I wrote a lengthy answer to this and sadly my phone died and killed it so I'll try to summarize it. No, they are not debunked. Here is the unfiltered truth, after holding this in for two years I want to leave this blog in peace and move on with my life from Blur and their fans.
Journalists from the Guardian, who were specialized in these type of celeb abuse cases, were involved in this. BPA and I helped put them in contact with people, some who helped and others who were traumatized from things and didn't want to talk and others who were scared to. Some of this was mishandled by bpa being overly involved but I'm not going to go into that.
The journalists were given all of the sensitive files. They came back to us and said that unless the victim who came forward about S.A. came forward again, they couldn't write about it. The reason being that newspapers will only take on a risky story like this if there's testimony of S.A. or violent physical abuse and the coxonexpose fan did not come back when we asked/ghosted after being chased off by fans.
The Guardian journalist, again someone who specialized in this type of celeb abuse investigation who had seen all of things I hadn't seen including the sexual stuff, said to me, "don't get me wrong, from everything I've seen [GC] is definitely a creep."
Grooming and emotional abuse are not enough for papers to take on the risk of publishing something unless it's rape or violent and that's the sad reality. Graham started tweeting again as soon as the Guardian journalists backed off because of course he did.
Bpa was in contact with someone close to Graham who was devastated by this and I can't say who bc it would put them in danger/implicate them but even me saying it probably makes it obvious.
So the next time people say, oh that tumblr blog is just obsessed with hating Graham let them know that an accredited journalist validated everything and that it's dumb easy to get away with parasocial abuse when you're a semi-famous white dude in a retro band who is chronically online liking photos of young women in short skirts because the system supports white men and not victims. And I live with this pandora's box knowledge in my head every day, knowing Blur say nothing and I get called all sorts of things because I defended literal strangers on the internet at the risk of my own safety while most fans stayed quiet or picked apart every action and let those few of us saying something be punching bags. I'm not even a victim and I would never do this again.

They were out of valentines cards, Resident Evil. (Wesker/Leon? I think I’m matching up the right tumblr to AO3…. If not feel free to pick a different pairing. I’m on mobile so I can’t leave this ask to go check now that I’ve started writing it… whoops)
“Here, before I forget.”
Leon thrust out a little bundle wrapped in bright pink cellophane, as casual as you please. Wesker looked down at it, almost not comprehending for a startled moment. A gift. Leon had gotten him a gift.
“What’s the occasion?” he asked, like he hadn’t been bombarded with reminders all through the grocery store this morning.
“Did you forget? It’s Valentine’s day. Isn’t that why we booked the hotel room today?”
“I hadn’t paid much notice to the date,” he lied.
Wesker took the bundle. He untied the gold ribbon and stripped the cellophane off. Inside was a thin gold box of ferrero rocher hazelnut clusters and a red envelope. Wesker sat the box of candies aside and opened the envelope, hyper-aware of Leon’s eyes watching him the whole time. He felt uncomfortably like he was 10 again, at the one and only birthday party where his guardian had allowed him to associate with children from the neighboring village.
The card within the envelope had a picture of a droopy hound puppy looking up at the camera, with the words ‘Get Well Soon!” written around it in swirling gilt cursive. With growing confusion, Wesker opened the card.
“Just a little note to let you know I’m thinking about you and I hope you recover from your…” read the pre-printed text, and then the next bit had been taped over with clipped newspaper letters to form the words: “TERMINAL SEXINESS AND MEGALOMANIA.” At the bottom was a little heart, followed by Leon’s name.
Wesker slowly ticked his eyes up to meet Leon’s.
“They were out of Valentine cards,” Leon said.
“Were they now,” Wesker replied flatly. “Or did you see see the opportunity for a dumb joke and pounce on it?”
Leon whipped his head, flicking his hair out of his eyes.
“I’ll never tell,” he said.
Wesker huffed softly and reeled Leon in with a hand fisted in his collar, so he could kiss the cheeky look off of that pretty face.
“I didn’t get you anything,” he admitted with some regret.
“That’s fine. You can make it up to me,” Leon said. He backed up towards the bed, his eyes positively smoldering.
Wesker tossed the card aside and followed, intent on doing just that.

I deleted my old tumblr about a year ago but then decided to make a new account with the intention of logging on every now and then to see what was going on in the fandoms I interested in. I wasn't going to interact with the posts or post anything myself but I can't keep my mouth shut anymore. I know that tumblr is a very far-left-chronically-online-teenagers kind of website (where "teenagers" does not necessarily refer to the actual age but rather to the black and white thinking and inability to understand that the real world is much more complex than that) and I'm not a fan of social media in general, plus I'm a very busy person, so I don't really like spending a lot of time on here but sometimes it can be fun.
Imagine my surprise when I created my new account sometime in December or January, only to find out that Noah Schnapp had apparently been cancelled, when only a year earlier he was being praised for being "so brave and queer" (I have my thoughts on all of this too but they're irrelevant right now). Knowing tumblr, I obviously rolled my eyes and moved on, wondering briefly what he might have done to warrant people cursing him left, right, and centre. Then I came across that photo and was like... I have no idea what's going on. Because I literally didn't. I learn about the news from newspaper headlines and only occasionally glance through New York Times, The Guardian, Süddeutsche Zeitung, or some other reputable newspapers when I have the time and nothing better to do.
So I decided to do my research. Cambridge Dictionary told me that Zionism was "a political movement that had as its original aim the creation of a country for Jewish people, and that now supports the state of Israel" which sounded more than reasonable to me, I could 100% get behind that myself. This left me even more confused as to why everyone was freaking out. At that point, I knew that there was a war in the Middle East but I didn't pay much attention to it. But by that point I was so invested in finding out what started this witch-hunt that I decided to sacrifice some time I didn't really have and dig deep into the topic.
Since my knowledge of the history and politics of the Middle East was close to nill at that point, I just knew that it'd been very tense and very messy ever since I could remember, I had to do a lot of reading, and I quickly realised that the situation was extremely complicated. The whole region was a ticking time bomb and I couldn't think of any potential solution to the problem. In other words, I still don't think there was any chance of this not turning into an armed conflict sooner rather than later.
Armed with this new knowledge, I then returned to tumblr, thinking that people were upset that Noah was making a joke about the war, which is perfectly understandable. Instead I found out that the woke American left was now supporting terrorists. Which was an interesting development, to say the least. More terrifying was the realisation that they were getting all their information from Islamic sources, including the Hamas itself, because the West is apparently evil now (neo-orientalism, anyone? just me? okay...) and can't be trusted. Also, the Jews are responsible for that because they're controlling the governments and the media and basically everything else? Correct me if I got that wrong, I'm not very good at conspiracy theories, they confuse me, but I think that's what a lot of people are implying?
Let's take a moment to let it sink in: people believe everything a terrorist group tells them (see sources at the end if you have any doubts that that's what they are) as opposed to consulting different sources from various places where the press are reasonably free to tell the truth... Not only that, they are now "rooting for" Hamas (it's a war, not a football match, but fine) and, on the more extreme end, want to see Israel destroyed. In the same breath, with no sense of irony, they renounce genocide and praise the Nazis (which is what I actually wanted to talk about, but this has got too long, so more on those charming chaps, their modern counterparts, and how the far left has become the far right in my next post).
As for Noah, I find the post itself rather off-putting but not the fact that he might support Zionism (in its original form; people on this site seem to have redefined it and now I see it used as an insult, but I can't for the life of me figure out what you think it means, not to mention that none of you can actually agree on what it means, so I'm just going to stick to the original definition, thank you very much). But he's 19 and teenagers will always be teenagers, they rarely stop to think before doing or saying something. If he was 20 years older than he is, I'd think he should know better, but I've seen kids (and many adults) do much dumber, not to mention dangerous (as in could actually get them and/or other people killed), things in real life. I've done much dumber things myself. It's just that the most of us have the privilege of doing those dumb things in private, without millions of people analysing our every move.

An article from The Guardian from July 2017. Especially interesting:
The US classifies Hamas as a terrorist organisation, although in the UK it is not banned in its entirety. The Home Office’s list of proscribed groups only includes its military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, for their “aims to end Israeli occupation in Palestine and establish an Islamic State”.

ok you've got me. what are your thoughts on trans!bruce 👀👀👀👀
Oooooh so I started to answer this but I knew I had a lot of thoughts on it so I saved it as a draft but tumblr ate it and im so sad. But anyway here we are answering this ask (sorry it's been so long I've thought about it every day since receiving it). Tw for mentions of transphobia below the cut (but it's so brief you might miss it)
SO
Bruce is a trans man, right? He realized it pretty early in life, earlier than many, but he was only around 10/11. So his parents were already gone when he realized. He sat on it for a while before telling Alfred bc be was scared, but when he finally told his guardian he was so relieved.
At first Bruce asked to use they/them pronouns while he was figuring everything out. In the meantime Alfred asked local news outlets to start referring to his charge with gender neutral terms. He figured they could update everyone when Bruce decided on pronouns and a new name. Some places respected the request, some places ignored it.
About a year passed and shortly after Bruce turned 13 he came to Alfred with a new name and definite pronouns, but he didn't have a middle name picked out yet. His middle name from his deadname was after a person in his family that his parents respected a lot and wanted to honor. Bruce had issues changing it. He was worried it was disrespectful to do so. Alfred told him it would be disrespectful to himself to keep a name that he had grown out of just because he thought it made a dead person happy. Alfred assured him that his parents would want him to change his name if it made him happy to do so. He suggested that if Bruce still wanted to honor his parents he could take his father's name as his middle name. Bruce agreed and they started the paperwork to legally change his name from [REDACTED] to Bruce Thomas Wayne.
Bruce had always planned to become Batman and he started training before he ever told alfred about it, even if it just meant that he was punching a bag or teaching himself to hack in a lightly used part of the house. He got pretty good considering the fact that he was teaching himself, but his first test was when he made duplicates of every newspaper that mentioned him by deadname or misgendered him and broke into the gotham city public library to swap them out. He ended up being spotted by the security guard but managed to give them the slip and get away without them realizing why he was there.
Eventually he told alfred about his plans to become batman and poor alfred nearly had a heart attack at the thought of his kid endangering himself like that. Of course, Alfred agreed to help Bruce out, preferring to be kept in the loop rather than B hiding things that important out if fear if rejection.

what do you consider to be "middle class" in England these days?
Haha well first of all I think there are entire branches of sociology dedicated to answering this so I don’t have an actual serious answer, and certainly not one that can be put succinctly into a tumblr post. Is class based on income alone? Tastes and habits? Both? Is someone’s profession a better indicator? How many categories of social class are there?
When I studied sociology and stats, how you measured class varied greatly depending on what question you were asking, and in national surveys like the British social attitudes survey, I remember there being loads (like more the 7 maybe even more than 10 but it’s been a while) of different measures of social class. Some lecturers also recommended using education as a proxy indicator of class (which I think has various obvious problems and assumptions).
But I’m not sure if that’s the answer you wanted me to give so here is my non-serious list of things that I think are generally (but not exclusively) middle class:
- waitrose
- shopping regularly at the white company
- using farrow and ball paint (they have lovely colours but are v expensive)
- Gail’s
- cockapoos and other similar dogs
- private schools (obvs also a sign of being upper class depending on which school)
- reading newspapers like the telegraph, the times, the guardian etc
Also I’m scottish so this is more general than just england

Oh wow I haven't been tagged in one of these in a minute. Thanks for the tag, @queen-of-voltronian =D
named after anyone?
Yes! I go by KJ, which is my initials. My middle name is after my grandmother. And, she's actually the one who gave me the nickname KJ! So not only am I named after her, but she gave me the name I go by too.
2. last time you cried?
Don't judge me... but it was while I was watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Which was last weekend I think?
3. do you have kids?
Furbabies!
4. do you use sarcasm often?
I don't know how to be any other way.
5. what's the first thing you notice about people?
Either their eyes - because I'm an artist and of course I love eyes - or their smell. (THIS SOUNDS SO CREEPY I'M JUST REALLY SENSITIVE????) Because I reaaaaaaaaally can't stand bad smells. So if someone's got, ahem.... some BO? That's gonna be the first thing I notice. Doesn't matter how pretty their eyes are, I'ma notice the SMELL. (Same if they smell really, really nice though. Pretty eyes be damned! If they smell good that's the best.)
6. color of your eyes?
Green!
7. scary movie or happy ending?
Depends on my mood. I like a nice happy ending after a lot of PAIN. But I like scary movies too, if they're actually scary and not just a gore fest. Yuck.
8. any special talents?
Beyond being an artist? I can sing. I get stage fright though, so I don't usually sing publicly, but I can sing. I can also read sheet music, and I can play the oboe and the clarinet. Music is life, fam.
9. where were you born?
In the back of a car at security of a Nuclear Power Plant in Maryland, USA. No, I'm not kidding. My mom has the newspaper clipping still, and my parents got me a baby book specifically to write down the model of the car as my "birth place".
10. hobbies?
I play a lot of video games. A lot, a lot. Too many. It's the main thing I do besides art and reading and being overly invested in shows.
11. pets?
I have 3 cats and a dog!
12. sports?
When I was a kid, I played basketball every year. Beyond that? Nah. I hate football, don't even get me started. Watching it, hearing about it, enduring other people be really into it. Not a fan =\
13. height?
I smol. Well. I smol in height. I'm 5'3". The rest of my biological family is considered tall, or at least average height usually. My cousin, who is 5'5", was nicknamed the midget of the family. I'm shorter than her.
14. favorite subject?
Surprising no one, art and music. When I was in high school, I knocked all my required courses out of the way so I could spend my senior year taking every single art and music course I could fit in my schedule. It was a great year.
15. dream job?
I've always wanted to be able to make a living being an artist. It's difficult and I don't make much in commissions, but I just had a like.... quarter life crisis kinda? I quit my corporate job because I was so miserable, I couldn't even step foot in the building anymore. So now I'm going to save up so I can go to school for tattooing and do what I really want to do, rather than what I think I have to do.
Let's see, who to tag.... @voxxian @rollyjogerjones(although she hasn't been on tumblr for like a year) @izbizzle(same for him) and anyone else that wants to do it! @adi-dion I SAW YOUR LIKE YOU ARE TAGGED NOW YKNOW IF YOU WANNA

There's a guardian article THERE'S A GUARDIAN ARTICLE
"Goncharov: why has the internet invented a fake Martin Scorsese film?"
I love you Tumblr
LMAO this is all far too much for me to take. The GUARDIAN!! Thats like THE mainstream newspaper for lefties in the UK.
My head hurts...
Listen I have been on this hellsite for 8 goddamn years. I have always viewed it as a sort of safe bubble that the internet otherwise forgets about and the rest of the world doesnt know exists. I LIKE IT THAT WAY.
Tumblr being a popular place, with memes that breach containment in similar ways to how TikTok memes become whole movements (2021s sea shanty trend for example) is like my WORST FEAR. I like Tumblr being completely indecipherable to outsiders. Lets keep our plinko horses and blorbos and destiel news memes! And steer clear from whatever the hell is going on on twitter, insta, tiktok, or god forbid FB.
I mean dont get me wrong its damn impressive that us weirdos on tumblr have finally got people sitting up and paying attention but I still feel its paying attention in the same way people might pay attention to the monkeys at the zoo.

Ever experienced a moment you were absolutely god damn sure you posted something as you remember actually editing the post, but somehow it's nowhere to be seen in my archive but it is in my concept folder? Was I that intoxicated or is Tumblr trying to censor the post in question as it was about drug crime in the Netherlands and me criticizing corrupt politicians with examples of how hypocrite they are in their criticisms and aren't telling the Guardian the full story (because as a foreign newspaper they don't know about a lot of these people's own scandals)?

Rizz, Barbenheimer and hallucination: the breakthrough words in the Guardian in 2023
‘I have limited rizz’ said an actor while Barbenheimer refers to the year’s most talked about films Hallucination, Barbenheimer and acabó were among the new and breakthrough words of 2023, according to an analysis of the Guardian archive. And do you have “rizz”? Dozens of new words appeared on the newspaper’s pages this year. And while the majority of these relate to people and placenames previously unrecorded on the news pages, some words were truly newly minted.
