I read Goffman's book and prepared text about main notions. The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life is a good observed micro-sociological explaining model nevertheless Sennett criticized independent on structure sight but I think if Sennet would thought about Marx's Materialistic History, he could see how the scene and actors changes. I think Goffman's theory isn't independent on structure.

We created this blog as a studyblr to motivate ourselves now and later, and to be able to look back in the future about what paths we overcome.

"We" are two friends, both psychology students and we use pseudonyms as: one of us is "Ladin" (spruce tree) and the other is "Çınar" (plane tree) and we share posts under these names.

The language of the posts are English and Turkish.

Why learn a foreign language, you ask?

Understanding and speaking the language will at some point inevitably make you feel like a spy/important person... - Bonus points for when you can eavesdrop on public conversations.

Have those fun little moments when you catch mistakes in your target language on signs, merchandise and in media. (Especially if it’s Japanese or Chinese... People love to butcher those). 

Imagine what your crush would think if they suddenly realize you speak a different language 3 months after meeting you. They may gasp, exclaim that you’re full of surprises, and go weak in the knees from your oh-so-mysterious demeanor (bonus points if it’s French or Italian). 

Fulfill your study aesthetic dreams, because you finally have something to theme a new blog around. Time to splurge on a pretty notebook and nice pens and work on that handwriting. Get the desk set up nice and cute, grab yourself the most beautiful coffee mug you can find. You’ve just become that girl. And you love it. Can’t forget to mention the messy buns, glasses (don’t have to be prescription), cat ownership and plants. 

Increase your chances of escaping eternal loneliness TEN FOLD because learning a language just opened doors to millions of people who couldn’t speak yours. 

Your personality may shift depending on which language you’re speaking, due to cultural and linguistic differences. So, by learning a new language, you will not only become more knowledgable about the world around you, but about yourself and people in general. 

Accurately understand books, shows, and all sorts of media in your target language. (No more relying on suspicious subtitles).

Feel satisfied in knowing that you’ve picked up quite a fun and rewarding hobby that can and will expand your life in every possible way.

It's 8:39 pm, I just got home and can finally sit down to actually do something...

it has been a rather peaceful day at work today, which allowed me to do some stuff I wouldn't otherwise have the time for later on.

I managed to write down some more french vocab/basic expressions. most of them I already know, but I decided to make more handwritten notes, to practice my penmanship. so re-writing some of the stuff I'm already familar with serves the dual purpose of revision mixed with practise.

[I also decided to write any original or fanfic ideas down on paper as well, to give my eyes some rest from all of the computer and phone screens]

in terms of spanish, I decided to start translating some short stories [1, 2, 3, 4]. it's actually really fun. definitely a nice change of pace.

(then I looked up some short stories for beginners in other languages, and found some for french [1, 2, 3, 4], turkish [1, 2, 3], and arabic - though I was already aware of this one from another tumblr post - [1, 2]; do recommend, though I haven't checked all of the resources yet.)

the two books I'm focusing on this month are: pride and prejudice and silence of the lambs. I felt like catching up on the latter today (it has been a week since I started reading them, and I'm finally moving past my 'burn-out/block')

the visit to my therapist today has been a bit... heavy. emotionally draining. but in the end I feel a bit more at peace with myself.

in order to reward myself for my latest accomplishment (getting full marks on my latest assignments) me and my brother decided to eat some fast food on our way back home. it has been some time since I ate anything like that, and it has felt good to indulge myself. (even better to actually accept the good grade as an accomplishment, without making excuses for myself or downplaying it yet again)

all in all, a very nice day.

Language Journal Prompt

Listing Grammar, Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, and Vocab Resources

I provided the ones I did for my language journal as an example but really take the time to do some research to see what resources work best for you and this overview is dynamic so it will change as you grow in the language.

I did this several months ago after being sick realizing how much I needed a journal for language learning and a “menu” of resource for quick glance when I am stuck on what to study. This has helped me plan tremendously both goals and daily.

So it begins today.

I’m planning on posting about my language journey here solely for myself.  Here is what I did today: ✿ I got back to langtwt and tweeted in Italian ✿ I watched the first two episodes of Pokemon with Italian dubbing ✿ I watched 4 episodes of a terrible romantic reality show in Spanish lol ✿ I listened to ton of BTS - Korean immersion kinda ✿ I finished one lesson of Memrise’s Turkish 1

I’m looking for a language learning buddy!

Someone I can text with, exchange advice, maybe even practice speaking if we are learning the same language. A little about me: I’m 17, so it would be great if you were close to my age. I’m prepping for C2 exam in English (it’s not my native lang) and I’m learning Spanish. I would also like to start learning a new language but I’m torn between like 6 so I still need to decide 😂

hi everyone! my name is Bee, i’m 20 years old, and i’m finally picking up language learning again!

i’m a native Turkish speaker and i speak fluent English. i currently spend most of my time studying A2-B1 German because i plan to take a proficiency exam soon. but after that becomes less intense i wanna jump in Spanish, French, Norwegian, and maybe Swedish!
