"Tuttle" is not usually thought of as one of Season One's few Sad Episodes, but if we wanted to, we could stop and think about how Hawkeye tried to bring his childhood imaginary friend to Korea and ended up having to kill him.

It occurs to me that the episode Tuttle is one that only works in those early seasons where the 4077th is made to feel a lot bigger than what we see on screen, that there are all these other doctors who we don’t get to see bc their shifts don’t overlap with Hawkeye and Trapper’s so they don’t see each other all that much. It wouldn’t work in the later episodes where the camp shrinks to exactly 4 doctors and the only characters that we don’t intimately know are most of the nurses and the corpsmen.

Japanese Yokai and Other Supernatural Beings: Authentic Paintings and Prints of 100 Ghosts, Demons, Monsters and Magicians
Andreas Marks
Tuttle Publishing
Other than PIE International, my two other favorite English-language publishers of Japanese culture are Kodansha and Tuttle. Both publishers make high quality books that are always very well designed and edited. This book is no exception. While this is a compendium of yokai, it is different from any of my other encyclopedias of weird in that this one takes its information almost exclusively from the original source materials. The descriptions, habits, and appearances of the yokai are all taken directly from the rich canon of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century prints, books, and paintings from public and private collections around the world. And as a highlight the book presents two painted handscrolls—A Collection of Monsters and Night Parade of One Hundred Demons—from the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, which are reproduced in this book for the first time.

I was really gonna come into this inbox and ask if at any point, the fandom has obsessed over a character who was like. straight up not even in the show. Like they just decided to apply a name to a nurse who appeared in the opening credits and was just never on the show. And then I realized, Captain Tuttle is right there! The show did that for me! For us!
It sure did!
but let's be real, I feel pretty confident that there are other characters who the fandom loves even if we never see them.
For instance, I know there are people out there who absolutely adore Kathy Mulcahy based solely on what Francis says about her.

Tuttle is from an older comic and is a totally fuuunnn gguuuuy. Had to pick up the pen again after a very stressful couple of weeks! Sometimes it’s nice to just breathe and draw a bit.

SHO: Japanese Calligraphy - An In-depth Introduction to the Art of Writing Characters
Christopher J. Earnshaw
Charles E. Tuttle Company 1989
So, this is an aspirational buy that I never had any intention on following through with. Would I like to practice Japanese calligraphy? Sure. But I’m not going to be able to learn it from a book. I don’t care how good the book is. And this looks like a pretty good book, although it does look like it was printed using a typewriter.
